Read by the poet: "Death Of The Hired Man" by Robert Frost
Mary sat musing on the lamp-flame at the table Waiting for Warren. When she heard his step, She ran on tip-toe down the darkened passage To meet him in the doorway with the news And put him on his guard. ‘Silas is back.’ She pushed him outward with her through the door And shut it after her. ‘Be kind,’ she said. She took the market things from Warren’s arms And set them on the porch, then drew him down To sit beside her on the wooden steps.
‘When was I ever anything but kind to him? But I’ll not have the fellow back,’ he said. ‘I told him so last haying, didn’t I? If he left then, I said, that ended it. What good is he? Who else will harbor him At his age for the little he can do? What help he is there’s no depending on. Off he goes always when I need him most. He thinks he ought to earn a little pay, Enough at least to buy tobacco with, So he won’t have to beg and be beholden. “All right,” I say, “I can’t afford to pay Any fixed wages, though I wish I could.” “Someone else can.” “Then someone else will have to.” I shouldn’t mind his bettering himself If that was what it was. You can be certain, When he begins like that, there’s someone at him Trying to coax him off with pocket-money,— In haying time, when any help is scarce. In winter he comes back to us. I’m done.’
‘Sh! not so loud: he’ll hear you,’ Mary said.
‘I want him to: he’ll have to soon or late.’
‘He’s worn out. He’s asleep beside the stove. When I came up from Rowe’s I found him here, Huddled against the barn-door fast asleep, A miserable sight, and frightening, too— You needn’t smile—I didn’t recognize him— I wasn’t looking for him—and he’s changed. Wait till you see.’ ‘Where did you say he’d been?’
‘He didn’t say. I dragged him to the house, And gave him tea and tried to make him smoke. I tried to make him talk about his travels. Nothing would do: he just kept nodding off.’
‘What did he say? Did he say anything?’
‘But little.’ ‘Anything? Mary, confess
He said he’d come to ditch the meadow for me.’
‘Warren!’ ‘But did he? I just want to know.’
‘Of course he did. What would you have him say? Surely you wouldn’t grudge the poor old man Some humble way to save his self-respect. He added, if you really care to know, He meant to clear the upper pasture, too. That sounds like something you have heard before? Warren, I wish you could have heard the way He jumbled everything. I stopped to look Two or three times—he made me feel so queer— To see if he was talking in his sleep. He ran on Harold Wilson—you remember— The boy you had in haying four years since. He’s finished school, and teaching in his college. Silas declares you’ll have to get him back. He says they two will make a team for work: Between them they will lay this farm as smooth! The way he mixed that in with other things. He thinks young Wilson a likely lad, though daft On education—you know how they fought All through July under the blazing sun, Silas up on the cart to build the load, Harold along beside to pitch it on.’
‘Yes, I took care to keep well out of earshot.’
‘Well, those days trouble Silas like a dream. You wouldn’t think they would. How some things linger! Harold’s young college boy’s assurance piqued him. After so many years he still keeps finding Good arguments he sees he might have used. I sympathize. I know just how it feels To think of the right thing to say too late. Harold’s associated in his mind with Latin. He asked me what I thought of Harold’s saying He studied Latin like the violin Because he liked it—that an argument! He said he couldn’t make the boy believe He could find water with a hazel prong— Which showed how much good school had ever done him. He wanted to go over that. But most of all He thinks if he could have another chance To teach him how to build a load of hay’
‘I know, that’s Silas’ one accomplishment. He bundles every forkful in its place, And tags and numbers it for future reference, So he can find and easily dislodge it In the unloading. Silas does that well. He takes it out in bunches like big birds’ nests. You never see him standing on the hay He’s trying to lift, straining to lift himself.’ …

The fact that we’re nine episodes in and have seen Ogino interact with every member of the main cast except Kazuki seems very intentional, and the thought of this confrontation fills me with fear.
#buddy daddies#kazuki kurusu#rei suwa#ryo ogino#first he’s involved in yuzuko’s death#now he’s hired to take out kazuki#sir why are you trying to ruin this man’s life. he just wants to be a malewife and mother in peace

You know how it is, you used to be able to just dig through a guy’s guts and now you can’t. Because of woke.
#this really made me laugh#I looked up those two cases - they were both real but I can’t find anything that would imply time of death played a big role in either of th#Thelma Todd died in what was apparently an accidental death#the rattlesnake murders maybe because it was a dude who hired a hit man to kill his wife (with rattlesnakes??)#and they initially thought it was an accidental drowning until the hit man confessed#feral!perry blogging#the case of the lame canary

I would love, even if its just its just brief summaries, to know the different thoughts going through bills head throughout the last smut. (mainly when he got the text and when dipper starts just blurting out thoughts and ideas bc i think those moments would be fun to see)
Imagine you're having the shittiest day at work. You're gritting your teeth and hanging onto it by your fingernails, knowing that eventually dealing with this absolutely idiotic, waffling, overstuffed, condescending dipshit of a client will be done with, you'll charge him out the nose for your services - which will probably be, like a hundred dollars, the way this is going! What bullshit. At least afterwards, you can collapse onto the bed and complain to your spouse about it. Which you have been doing, actually, waiting for a decent excuse to bail or check out early.
Then you get a text. And it's your partner saying they got you a brand new console, your favorite pizza - Oh! And a million bucks in untraceable cash - but you might have to kick your shitty client in the nuts so hard his eyes pop out. Does that sound... okay? No pressure or anything.
The reason Bill was a minute later than expected is because even he needed a moment. It was the sheer whiplash from going from Shit to Fucking Amazing.
#answers#Bill went from full on eeueuughhh about his day to practically having hearts floating around him#Perhaps literally depending on the magic situation in the place he was in#In my head Bill was 'hired' by a (shitty) villain and he got out of it by doing a quick betrayal and demanding to be cast out by the 'heros#“I Got THIS to get back to!! You think I wanna keep him waiting???”#He already hovers in his normal triangle form but this man was practically floating with delight heading back to Dipper#A graph of Bill's mood would start out super low then spike sharply at the pic#It then stays super high up with more spikes during all the shenanigans#After the smut they likely get cleaned up. Cuddle. And talk shit about idiots they've had to deal with#Bill Cipher has gone from doing his evil deeds and playing piano to an empty bedroom while raiding his own bar for distraction#To coming home to someone who'll listen to him bitch about his day and absolutely bicker with him about it#Calling him the worst thing in the universe. A scourge upon reality.#The most clever awful bastard. How *dare* he be handsome that's a crime -and frankly Dipper basically did it for him so he can't take credi#And sometimes even saying 'yeah you didn't *entirely* deserve to be screwed over that way. I could have done that *way* better.'#While Bill rests his head in his lap. Having someone listen to him ramble while he gets his hair played with. Lots of really good kisses#Warm. Close. Grossly domestic. But hey! Even *sex* can seem gross if you phrase it weird and *that's* a normal demonic pleasure#Sometimes fun things are just fuckin' FUN y'know?? Even if this one seems weird to other demons#It's. Nice. REALLY nice.#There's absolute no goddamn way he's going back to NOT having this#Even death won't pry it out of his greedy little mitts

Luke Cage stories are chock full of death, but I like them. Here's why: Although I hate death in comics, most of the people who die in Luke Cage comics are minor supporting characters or villains. But in 18 issues, I would say 16 of those issues has featured a death of some sort. But also: It reminds me of what I know about the blaxploitation genre and it's plots. The life of a hard-working man in the ghettos of NYC, fighting more down on their luck people. And facing drugs, gangs, industrial sabotage, unfair working conditions and more! Only reason it works is because Luke Cage is such a fun and flashy character! He makes it all work!
#but there is so much death in luke cage comics#yet they're still so fun#luke cage#power man#hero for hire#luke cage hero for hire#luke cage power man#comic books#comics#comic book#comic#old comics

So sad that Kentucky route zero never took off on tumblr because it’s so hard to fandomfy such a work because I have so many words of analysis on this game I love it so much
#(I’ve never played it all the way through)#but it’s soooo good though#the way it lays out it’s themes the way that it intersects with almost every aspects of the humanities#like the construction of the zero as non Euclidean shapes?????#and the use of the idea of the simulacra along the zero and blurring the space between reality and fiction even within the fiction???#the meta elements the critiques of academia THE ENTERTAINMENT#all of the references as well I don’t think I will ever get every single reference the game makes#I’m trying to write and comprehensive essay on it and I’ve got 1600 words already on a just a single part#it’s depression and it’s hopeful and even the secret epilogue!!!!!!#the death of the hired man being ambiguous in the end humanity wins in the face of tragedy!!!!#I even wrote about how the games ends on the imagery of a pair of horses called the neighbours in a grave#even in death you find community and companionship#the delivery being completed for Conway????#like also if you view it through the lens of Conway the fame is a tragedy but the game goes on after Conway leaves#people go on despite everything!!!!!#I can’t this game is so good go play it#kentucky route zero#kr0

thinking about my immortal ocs and their fun family drama 🥰
#technically they exist in the same universe as livvy's canon#their names are nessa and angus and theyre old as balls#like angus forgets how he got his immortality but he resents it a lot#man is like 10s of thousands of years old. and the human mind is straight up not built to last that long#a lot of the time it seems like hes just got pretty bad dementia but. sometimes that involves him screaming out in long dead languages#or forgetting what century hes in#nessa is much younger in comparison#she was born and raised in the dustbowl during the great depression#she has a little sister who is now almost 90 years old and set up in a comfy assisted living community that nessa visits often#she begged for her sister to do the immortality thing with her years and years ago but her sister adamantly refused#the idea of outliving her husband and their children and grandchildren was just. not smth she could handle#so nessa begrudgingly accepted that#angus found nessa as a gangly 13 y/o runaway and took her in#he was VERY against the idea of her being immortal and refused to talk to her for over a year when she went through#the Change without telling him#eventually he forgot why he was angry at her in the first place 🙃#but yeah nessa is v much team 'death is for suckers there is SO MUCH i want to see and do still'#she looks maybe 30 and is thriving#she hired a 19 y/o caregiver to look out for angus and severely underestimates that caregiver in terms of Knowing angus is immortal#she just told her that angus is a historian with dementia and thats why sometimes he gets upset when he finds hes in present day LA#and not in viking era greenland#but the caregiver is like 🤨

my naming scheme for the resurrectionists causes me undue stress a lot of the time but when it works it Works
#edgar mortis is obv edgar allen poe + latin word for death. and his surname plays off the fact that there are four other resurrection men#only identified by their surnames which are pallor livor rigor and algor. rigor mortis should be easy to clock but the rest are all stages#of death as well when you attach -mortis to the end of them. which cements edgar's identity as a resurrection man even when he's farrr too#consumed by morana's world of magic and mystery to be actively working.#morana faust is a slavic death goddess + faust. the most famous necromancer in all of fiction. once again her surname cements her identity#as a necromancer specifically even when she gets swept away by unrelated magical happenings#nine and shi aren't their real names but their identification numbers are 9444999 and 4999444. 9 and 4 are both associated with death and#each of their numbers are the other's but reversed. also nine was a classical composer in life and there's a superstition that classical#composers will not live to write their 9th symphony (he sure as hell didn't lol) so it's fitting that he's the one who ended up with the#nickname. abberline isn't his real name either so he doesn't count. valdís has ancient norse for 'death' (val) + 'dis' (goddess) despite th#name not actually being used for any actual death goddess and her surname toth is likely derived from a medieval german word for death#her name isn't glaringly out of place with the rest of the cast but doesn't immediately let you catch on to her whole deal#which is good bc valdís is meant to sort of blend into the backround of reader's minds until The Reveal.#mara is a minor hindu goddess of death and her surname grave is. well. self explanatory. i tried to give the more non-magical side of londo#more straightforward names to contrast with some of the others and obv her dad was created before her and dr grave seemed like a good name#for someone who only popped up in the story while he was hiring professional grave robbers (now he pawns that task off on mara lol)#ereshkigal kore is just queen of the underworld + queen of the underworld but def has a very grandiose feel which is good bc that's#absolutely the vibes she should be giving off. all her servants' names boil down to figures associated with the greek + mesopotamian#underworlds. mainly attendants of aforementioned goddesses. which fits bc they all serve her#but i'd like to give special consideration to the maid trio here bc they're a set of triplets. and their last name is cerberus.#which famously had 3 heads. and the older two feature a similar naming scheme as persephone + eurydice (they even both end in the same e#sound) but the youngest's name is aisha which means 'living' or 'alive'. and obv her departure from the naming scheme makes her more easily#differentiated from her sisters + more memorable in the long run which is good bc she's the most important maid but it also gives me room t#have a 'my name means alive but she's named for the queen of the underworld so i'm willing to not live up to my name if it means being#closer to her' moment w a shitton of lilies in frame in case it isn't clear to anyone what's going on ('her' means eresh not persephone btw#and then there's dysmas. the patron saint of undertakers. which fits bc catholic. and sanson. as in the executioner. for a character heavil#inspired by the nasuverse's church executioners like kirei and ciel#rosette comes from the rosette nebula which looks like a skull. hayden is from one of my kids at work who said that next time i wrote a#murderer into something i had to name them after her so. here you go hayden. you get to be the cannibalistic child. (the topic came up when#i had to make a murder mystery for class so i stole the names from my kids and i told the ones whose names i used abt it later and she was

didn't realise that the summer I turned pretty season 2 was still going lmaoo. I finished episode 6 and was like well damn I guess this is it. here we go again ig
#the problem with this series is that it is too set in todays time#but the books are so so 2010 coded and it kind of ruins the whole vibe#even the little choices of adding in modern music.. idk man. like my Jeremiah has never heard of Ariana grande and I know this in my heart#its so. Netflix originalified#and I know we will look back in 10 years to cringe at this bc even now I am cringing at it#and then the casting. that's a whole separate issue#she really said Conrad was 'dark dark dark' and they made him barely a brunette (can you use brunette for men? many have been wondering)#and Jeremiah isn't even properly blond like can we commit to the bit please. be serious about this im not even playing#bc they could have dyed their hair its not even that deep#I like belly at least like I look at her and I think yeah that could be belly#and Taylor as well actually. not in season 1 but her season 2 hair I believe it can be her#the only good thing they changed is making Jeremiah bisexual#and also I think the characters aren't obsessed with each other how I thought they should be after reading the books#the stakes are simply not that high when in the books it was like life or death for belly to get Conrad to notice her#ALSO not enough flashback scenes to their childhood#I don't even care ab this like that but it's just the principle of the thing! like it could have been great and they fumbled it completely#I need to have some kind of input in these things they should hire me as a creative director 😤#also I came here to say that Jeremiah is wearing an outfit I have worn many times before but I got sidetracked

it's morbidly funny to me that something like the raimiverse takes the idea of peter acting with the intent to kill and
a) negates there being an actual death,
and b) utilises this more to explore the idea of who deserves to live and die at the hands of another and perhaps most importantly, is it possible to even determine that and should someone have that power
and then you've just got 2099 Miguel out here having sadman moments in the rain like ah fuck i'm not sorry at all i let vulture fall, fuck that guy. <- struggling w the fact he's had enough character development to recognise the harm in this world for what it is and that he doesn't want to turn away from it anymore
#all jokes aside i really like his confrontation w vulture because in all previous battles. miguel's retaliation is purely reactive#as the words suggests lmao#hes defending himself from cops or corpo hired bounty hunters. and the deaths there are literally accidental on his part#but miguel punching vulture and calling him a sick freak for cannibalising downtown residents and other gang members#is the first time (to my memory) that you have him esculate a conflict#and it FEELS startling because of that. because while miguel was willing to walk away from alchemax for the unethical experiments yeah#he had no plan to like. fight back against that system#hitting vulture is literally an actualisation of miguel's disgust w not only the man himself but the beginings of his genuine idealogical#opposition to the capitalist idealogy vulture himself BOUGHT INTO#head in hands can i please top analysing this man now please my brain is like a prison#tunes talks 2099
