Recently extinct species make me sad for all the usual and normal reasons (loss of life, biodiversity and unique life forms that experienced the world wholly uniquely and acted in it like no other, to name three), but a big thing that also makes me so sad is the forgetting that comes right after. Many endangered species are greatly ignored to begin with whilst alive of course, which is awful, but the way that extinction also causes us to forget. A species could’ve been so abundant a hundred years ago, people would’ve used a fish species or a tasty plant for food, or parents would’ve warned their children to not put a poisonous toadstool or insect in their mouth, a diver would exclaim, “Aha!” after emerging from the shallows holding an especially big bivalve, or someone making a species diary would sketch out a local bird or fasten a single flower to the page. But.. then the species goes extinct. It doesn’t exist anymore. None of these events, these actions happen anymore. Not with these species. The people who had these experiences dwindle out and they may not even realise that their experiences were among the last of their kind. And we forget.

okay something I need to mention about the ending of Rescue Team

When you first encounter Rayquaza and he attacks you, he does so because he believe that Pokemon that cant fly should stay on the ground, and that the opposite holds true aswell. He even boasts about having never once descending to the ground and having vowed never to do so.

BUT

Once he realizing about the Big Freaking Meteor that you came to ask for his aid about, he immediately asks if you are certain because you might die if he breaks it at this range. The guy does a compete 180 once he realizes he messed up.

Theres also the fact that after getting dragged through the afterlife(???) by Gengar (who may or may not be trying to save you? idk its vague) you just wake up back at the Great Canyon.

So not only did Rayquaza purposely ignore Hero and Partner's (+ potentially Absol and/or Magnemite) plea for help, but once he did realize why they were at Sky Tower he showed genuine concern for their safety only for his earlier willful ignorance got them - as far as he knows - KILLED.

you can also recruit Rayquaza and bring him to ground level, thus breaking his earlier vow.

I was wondering why Luigi almost never says "Mario" in the Japanese dub, and only ever calls him "Niisan."

I looked it up, and apparently calling your older sibling by their first name is considered impolite in Japanese culture?

So it makes sense Luigi just calls Mario "Niisan." I think the only exception is when he first arrives in the Darklands, where after calling out "Niisan" and not getting a response he calls out "Mario" once... ...probably a last ditch effort to see if his sibling would respond, I guess.

I love you, waking up in the morning to find a thick blanket of untouched white snow. I love you, skiing trips through the woods. I love you, hot berry juice. I love you, making running steps through the untouched snow to see how far you can leap. I love you, frost and snow in the tree branches making everything look glistening and perfect. I love you, grey cloudy days when everything looks monochrome except for the red trunks of the pines. I love you, downhill skiing. I love you, trying out new routes and tricks while downhill skiing and getting out of my comfort zone! I love you, hot chocolate and whipped cream. I love you, great tits and magpies flying about looking for food. I love you, clear days when the sky is blue and you remember how beautiful it really is. I love you, heavy snowfall illuminated by the street lamps at night. I love you, walking on the sea ice and lake ice and accessing places I never could before. I love you, glögi. I love you, snowflakes and inspecting your patterns. I love you, steaming hot saunas. I love you, ice swimming, even though you also frighten me! I love you, fairy lights in the trees. I love you, wind-carved waves and shapes in the snow. I love you, blue hour. I love you, warm blankets. I love you, tiny black streams still staying unfrozen and moving. I love you, icicles and other beautiful ice formations. I love you, crown snow-load and thick snow covering the trees. I love you, northern lights. I love you, fireplaces. I love you, waking up in the middle of the night in your warm bed, finding the house completely quiet as you walk through the hall, and upon looking out the window, all you can see is the calm snow slowly making its way to the ground, illuminated by the colourful fairy lights and the orange street lights. And you get this magical feeling inside of you, that you’re so warm, and calm, and perfectly safe and sound in this very moment. And you feel like you could stand there forever and just… take it all in.
