hi all. it is with such a heavy heart that I share my best friend and platonic soulmate took his own life on tuesday. I am having a very difficult time coping. I posted about him regularly on this blog. everybody in my life knew how much I spoke about him, how much I loved him, the list of things we had planned for this year. I keep calling him hoping this is some terrible nightmare. with all of this going on, I don’t intend on posting here for the foreseeable future.

Since the whole thing with NaNoWriMo has gone down, I've noticed that one of their former sponsors, Ellipsus, has cut contact with NaNoWriMo because they do not support their stance on AI; I didn't know what Ellipsus was, but upon further research I've found that they are a writing platform that works a lot like Google Docs and Microsoft Word, only with a heavier leaning on the story-writing aspect and connecting with other writers - and they also completely denounce any use of AI, both in the writing process itself and in the use of their platform. I really appreciate that.

Since this is the case (and since I've noticed Google has begun implementing more AI into their software), I've decided to give Ellipsus a try to see if it's a good alternative to Google Docs (my main writing platform). It's completely free and so far, I've found it simple to use (although it is pretty minimal in its features), and I really like the look of it.

I figured I'd spread the word about this platform in case any of you writers would want to give it a try, and if you do, let me know how you like it!

You make the post, and you go back to a 2 AM haze of scrolling, when your phone screen starts blinking, *again*. You slap blearily at the screen, blaming both yourself and the economy for the shitty mobile games eating your phone alive for a few hustle-bucks, hoping you don't have to replace the damn thing with money you don't have--

--but when it does come back on, casting soft blue light across your blankets, shadowing your thumbs, outlining that precious little electric animal My Phone, you hear a voice, clearly, at the side of your bed.

There is an intruder in your room.

It speaks with a crisp voice, it repeats itself, monotone, and it knows you.

There is someone here, and it knows you, and you cannot see it, the voice in the dark, the figure in the dark.

The 2 AM dark you forget the depth of until you flicked your eyes away from the soothing scroll of white text on black, to the figure, by the side of your bed.

You cannot see it. You are impeded. Something is between you and it, but it is the sucking absence of a shield. There is a sheen of un-light it stands inside.

You do not understand.

Then, you blink,

and behind your eyelids, see the black monolith,

and see the warm hemispheres of light on either side,

the shadow image of your phone screen,

and you put it together, the 2 AM scrolling, the dark--you are blue-light blind, your retinas comfortably cooked, corneas dry, body locked in fear of the crisp voice, the intruder who knows you, the intruder you brought, the intruder who stands at the side of your bed in that photo-negative flash, sheltered from your gaze.

You are paralytic in the dark, and the crisp voice repeats itself, the figure that knows you, the crisp voice, it repeats itself again and again, monotone changing to a queasy carousel rise and fall of emotion, shock and grief and pain in the blind eyes of a wooden horse, a thing aggrieved, a child mourning. Wood cracks. Glass breaks. Muscles seize.

I don't know if anyone has talked about this, but lately this has been happening in other fandoms too. There'll be these bot accounts that straight up steals people's posts and adds "expand" "read more" "continue" as a link in the end of the post - DON'T CLICK ON THAT, it's most likely a malware or something of the like.

so if you see a post like this: no profile picture, something that looks reposted (I've seen this happening to artists too) and a link at the end, even if the post has tags, that's a bot. Block and report it.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR COLOR SETTINGS

EDIT: If you're still having problems, it might help to switch from "Save/Save as" to "Export (as a) Single Layer". Just. Make SURE the box labeled "Expression Color" is set to RGB. I've been messing with this all day, and it looks like this combination of settings will allow exported PNGs to maintain their colors perfectly. To you. So far both Discord and Toyhouse still only display desaturated images and I cannot for the life of me figure out why
