Hi! Thank you so much for this question! A few people have asked me to talk about this project so I'll just do it publicly here and if anyone has any questions feel free to send them my way :)

I'll try to keep it spoiler free but I'm sooo excited about this I'm finding it hard to SHUT UP HAHA also I'll put it under the cut because I get a bit rambly

SO first things first, it's a collection of short stories, so far amassing around 5000 words. They are all connected, creating an overarching narrative.

The collection is inspired by Sleep Token's concept of there being a deity named Sleep that is ambiguous in their intentions, this deity promising greatness to their followers in exchange for servitude. The "name" Vessel also appears to refer to the protagonist, the first follower of Sleep. With the only other vessel appearing is IV (who is referred to as the Fourth, written in letters, to differentiate from the band themselves).

Fourth plays an important role in the narrative, but not a big one. He only appears/is mentioned a few times.

The stories detail Vessel's journey from making a deal with Sleep to the eventual appearance of doubt in his worship of the goddess. He starts to realize that perhaps this deal isn't all that which he'd hoped it would be, he starts to realize that he is being hurt much more than he is getting out of the deal.

Sleep is a metaphor for anything toxic or hurtful in one's life. Vessel is all of us. His journey is that of unlearning self-deprecation and self-destruction, learning self-love, healing etc.

Friends who've read this story have told me that they're very curious if there will be a part 2 because of the contents of the epilogue, and... yeah, I'm weak, I will write a part 2.

Part 2 will deal with the real lives of the vessels (important note: I have never looked up the members' identities, the characters in these projects are based on the members' persona onstage, never on their real life identities) and their slow but sure realization that they have all met in the Dreamworld, as well as follow their struggle to fully rid themselves of Sleep, something they've been trying to do at different rates since the first collection of stories (fuck, I spoiled it ;;).

my mum as lee minho

like minho, my mum is quite introverted, but very giggly and talkative when she's with our family and her few close friends. she's selective about who she shows this side of her personality to, and it just makes it more special for those (like me) who get to see it daily

when watching the skz two kids room, mum said that jisung and minho's friendship is a lot like our relationship (SOBBING). whilst im loud and a certified yapper, my mum is still my quiet, safe space and a place where i can just calm myself down and lower my energy

we're also both on the adhd spectrum which i majorly see for them lols

she loves to cook, and acts of service are her way of showing her love. she grew up in a japanese household, and culturally you don't show as much affection, but she's learning. and im a major physical touch girlie, and ive seen her try to teach herself to love me that way. basically the best mum ever

oh, and she ADORES cats!

she's also lowkey like a mum of skz, kinda like minho is, but from a distance obvs. she treats them all like her sons, she has a picture of them on our fridge, photocard in her phone, listens to skz lofi whilst working. she supports them in every way and always gets so excited about their achievements.

essentially, she's a very calming, but at times chaotic presence, and im so lucky to have her. she's the perfect person to balance me out.

again, above all, he's just a very sweet, silly guy. he's very dependable, and he and i will often work on house projects together, whether it be painting or building furniture or making him help me rearrange my bedroom. with twice blasting in the background, it's gonna get done and it's gonna get done WELL

he's very accepting and listens when i yap, or when im confused about things. him and mum have that balance of giving me very down to earth advice, but also silly jokes and comments

oh she's the sweetest. i wake up to little notes and paper crafts from her, and she LOVES to bake me sweet treats. i take her on little coffee dates to the cafe where i work, and my coworkers adore her. yes, she gets two extra marshmallows for free. sometimes a third. sometimes a cookie, too. they're whipped, and who wouldn't be?

she's also a gamer BAHAHAHA if you count dress to impress, and she's GOOD. even though she's legit only 10 herself, she tells those other basic 10 year olds who's boss. always on the podium, making her fashionista sister proud

she always just wants to spend time with people. she's like a cat, just follows you around. sometimes adorable, sometimes drives me crazy.

All the hype didn't matched with the song

1. rest members songs had so much depth and substance to it while this was the cliche boy chasing a girl song. Like we always dont need deep songs but the quality could be so much better. This was like just another pop song.

I think I'll put this on same level as BAD DECISIONS. But for bad decisions, atleast the chorus was staying on my mind while for this nothing was catchy enough for us to humm. Just because it's JK it will get hype but otherwise it's so generic. I think I liked LEFT and RIGHT way better than Seven. Even the rap portion felt so unnecessary and boring.

2. MV was kinda nice because of the production but concept was too shallow, the stalking and chasing was so outdated. In my country we have like 9293928843837 MVs in this same concept that not many make the same theme songs again.

3. The choreography. We haven't seen the full version. But for tiktok they do the highlight portions if that's so mediocre idk how rest will be. It was again giving the same mediocre showing off choreography and for me backdancers ruined it with their awkward moves.

4. they wanted this song to be played everywhere around the world. But there was nothing catchy enough to attract gp or go viral on tiktok, even if we sped it up. The only way to make everyone listen is to shove it down their throat but doing payola. But idk if investing in payola is worthy for the song. I also doubt the longietivity, as for me it was boring after 2 listens. I'll rather listen Like Crazy or wildflower or closer 20 times than listening this once.

5. I HOPE he'll bring something fresh to the table for his album and don't involve this mediocre producers who uses the same formula and same superstar persona to make a song successful. He is so much talented to sing a song which is so rich in melody and lyrics. And he can produce way better songs by himself.

The suits at BigHit are trying but they are woefully out of touch with the reasons BTS blew up in the West in the first place. I don't even feel like spending any energy doing a review or even trying to explain what I mean. So I'll just ramble on for a bit but try to keep it brief.

I have to give BigHit some credit because I can see what they're going for here. Andrew Watt is a very celebrated producer in the US, he won the Grammy award for Producer of the Year in 2021, he's got A listers in his portfolio. So, he's not a cheap name to book and I can see why the suits at BigHit thought he's the genius to gift them a song clinically designed for American radio.

But that pandejo phoned it in. There isn't a lick of creativity to be found anywhere in all 3 minutes and five seconds.

It reminds me of VIBE by Jimin and Taeyang, as the closest analog to the vague dissatisfaction morphing into annoyance and then pragmatic rationalization I experienced in that same sequence when listening to it the first few times.

The song is disappointing because we've all heard it before. Too many times, and we're bored of it. We've heard JK sing this sort of song for years, as covers mostly. So on one hand, while I guess it's nice JK gets to have an American summer JB-reject pop tune of his own, it's not good enough to be the track that introduces him to the world as a solo artist.

It's fine for any white, blonde, blue-eyed heartthrob that can ride on a pretty face and implicit bias to rack up accolades, it's not good enough for Jungkook.

And BigHit needs to start using whatever leverage a US$10.6 billion market capitalization buys you in Hollywood, to insist for songs that are at least as good as the songs made by BTS members and produced by their in-house team. It's a waste of money and everybody's time to fly a battalion to LA just to record 2014's summer hit in 2023.

All that said, I can't ignore JK has a taste for songs like this, and it's not his fault the song is shit (he didn't write, compose or produce it), so technically he shouldn't be punished for it. And the song is made for radio, while it's not my personal taste a lot of people really like the song (one of my friends likes Seven the most out of all the BTS releases so far), and it will catch on with some support. So, ARMY will support it including me, just to a lesser degree than I've done so far. Fingers crossed JJK1 has something solid on it.

The premise was childhood friends to estranged almost lovers to supers fighting on opposite sides to reluctant allies to (finally) lovers. And it was going to be a parkner fic (peter parker/harley keener). It was going to be an epic slow burn spanning nearly their whole lives.

Then I thought why not pry it out of its fanfic foundation and stand it on its own as an original concept? Harley is essentially my OC and Peter could be shaped into an OC too and the plot I had in mind had hardly any of the source material in it so why not? I'd just tweak some names, create my own super powers and aliens and then boom! Book!

Didn't work 🙃 I wrote a 110k draft and got to the end and was like wow this sucks. I half-assed the world building and tried to hang onto plot devices that just don't work outside the mcu (they don't even work within the mcu but I digress) SO now we're back to square one: making it a fanfic. Except it's not really square one because I have 110k that I need to snip and prune and repot back into a fic.

Actually it's more like 85k bc I have to re-write the beginning since I ended up keeping that part for my book, but the rest just needs reworked into something I like with the characters that we know and love plugged back in. It's going to be a massive revision project but not any more difficult than writing the thing lol

But anyway! It's going to feature super villain!Harley which I am very excited about. He is sooooo tortured in this one and Peter has the shittest luck in the whole world <333

I don't have a good excerpt to share so here is the high-level outline for part one!

Part 1: Childhood

Peter’s parents die in a plane crash. He moves to Rose Hill to live with Uncle Ben and Aunt May and meets Harley

Harley has his hands full with… his dad just walked out. He wasn’t abusive. It was just shocking and all at once. They thought something terrible happened, but after they report him missing Scotty at the corner store stops by and says he sold him scratchers. Then a few hours later the sheriff stops over with his hat in his hands and tells them his truck was found in the lot at the airport in Nashville. “Let him go,” Mama says. “Don’t want no man who don’t wanna be around. Let ‘im go.” And that was the end of that.

Peter arrives while Harley is getting used to being the only one home after school. Abbie’s off with Mrs. Farley in town while Mama works, so it’s just him most days ‘til Mama gets home around 5.

Starts hanging out with the Parkers. They keep him ‘round for dinner. Scares Mama the first time bc he didn’t ask ahead and wasn’t home when she got there. She demands to meet them.

They get on great and once they learn of her newly single situation they offer to watch Harley in the afternoons until she gets home from work. No need for payment or thank yous—it just so happens that Peter could really use a friend right now and they’ve been getting along so well.

So it begins. No creek. No pokemon. Peter and Aunt May clash like the dickens, but Uncle Ben is always cool and rational and settles things before they go too far. It’s nice.

Peter is obsessed with planes and tracking flights and researching news of lost flights, crashes, etc. Huge fear of flying, but not of heights. This fear stays with him, even when Harley turns into a flying superhero.

EJ is Harley’s bully. Harley is a talkative little nerd with a stutter and a penchant for mathematics. He attracts the mean types and Peter has a loud bark and never has had the good sense to back down from a fight. The shared battles cement them together.

After being blindsided by his dad leaving, Harley had to reevaluate everything he thought about family. Family is no longer who you get along with, despite differences. It’s no longer who you put on a smile for. It’s who you can disagree with and still hug and laugh with at the end of the day. It’s refreshing that he always knows where he stands with the Parkers. They have big feelings and they don’t bury them, but they’re solid. They’re dependable. They’re there.

Then the Parkers move to New York and leave Harley behind and his theory on what makes a family falls apart all over again.

is it too early to say or is the back-to-back line up of children of ata, something whispered follow me and spider silk my favourite three songs in the album? floor absolutely shines in that part of the album like !!!!!! and the instrumentals and the key changes and riffs are all absolutely perfectly placed and theyre just amazing songs!! something whispered follow me, on first listen, i thought was the most "pop" sounding song on the album. and then i listened to it again and turns out it was very much metal lol just less prog than the rest of the album. but still extremely prog lol. an aside, the structures of the songs and the feel of the album is very Auri. nightwish and auri are very close on the spectrum that theyre on and this album in particular the venn diagram was overlapping Hard. not one not two but Three ballads on the album?? amazing, showstopping, everything that nightwish is about. but i'm getting off track. spider silk, AMAZING. no notes. literally just a song about a spider. and it slaps so hard. the children of ata, i had read the story on wikipedia when the album was first announced. it made me emotional then and it made me emotional again listening to the song. "we are the ones to tell you why the world of us it will survive." the melodies and chords in yesterwynde as a whole i found sounded very ominous and even scary at times, but underneath there's this message of hope. the core of the album is this cry of hope for humankind and that our legacy will go on forever, because there is good in the world. and love. i enjoyed ocean of strange islands, the day of and perfume of the timeless even more in the context of the album. i misremembered that ocean of strange islands was the second song and i was imagining it as a nearing-end-of-album kind of song, but it works so well as an intro? its a whistlestop tour of bits and pieces of every nightwish era and a fast paced headfirst dive into the rest of the album. ive listened to perfume of the timeless a few times but for some reason this was the time it really got me and the whole theme of the song got to me. it just has amazing instrumentation and the atmosphere is unlike any nightwish song before it but so very nightwish. talking of that, the instrumentation, the orchestra, piano and also the different synths like the 80s vibes in children of ata and the elevator music-y (?) vibes in spider silk, i have absolutely LOVED. nightwish do every single genre challenge. i need to relisten to antikythera mechanism with the lyrics and the weave and lanternlight but i love that there are so many different styles and genres in this album. and so many musical influences! both the outside influences and also the influences from every past era of nightwish. somehow it manages to capture the spirit of the very first acoustic demos from 1995 and every album since. i am very excited to relisten to every song. whos to say what will become my favourites but at the moment i can't stop thinking about the children of ata. that and perfume of the timeless, for me, are the thematic core of the album. those are just my initial thoughts but im sure im going to continue to be very normal about this album and think about it a normal amount for the next business year
