Hello! Do you ever write any fanfics of origin characters from their perspective? And if so, have you written Astarion? Specifically over the whole ascending/not ascending thing and how you think he'd feel in the moment either way? Whenever I'm feeling down I just start writing scene ideas for act 3 and this scene in particular has me in a chokehold, it's something I go back to pretty often and rework, so hopefully it gives you something to think about and make you feel a bit better or distracted if you still feel the need to be distracted! It's such an interesting and emotionally bittersweet scene, no matter the outcome. The writers are IMPECCABLE during that final bit of the scene where you have the option to let him do as he asks or convince him not to. It's probably my favorite scene in the whole game honestly

he is actually Valeriy's canonical boyfriend (to explain Valeriy is my oldest OC and he exists in many universes such as The Witcher, where he's paired up with Geralt, and Baldur's Gate 3, where he's paired up with Astairon, but his original original setting is this novel, where he's paired with Mirza 🫶)

Some prompts (only one is Veles-specific)

Astarion isn’t sure what he looks like anymore. Tav describes his appearance, and through this, accidentally reveals how attractive they find him.

Astarion and Veles wake up earlier than everyone else to watch the sun rise, meeting either intentionally or by coincidence to do so. Astarion hasn’t been able to see the sun since he was turned; (I imagine) Veles, who grew up in the Underdark, hasn’t seen much of it either.

How would their lives (backstories) be different if they’d known each other back then? Would Astarion have become a vampire if someone was walking with him that night? Would they both have been turned? Who would have tried to protect whom from whatever happened to them? You can either have them think about/discuss this or write it as an AU.

Either Tav or Astarion get triggered by seeing an otherwise ordinary object due to something that happened to them in the past, and the other comforts them.

Either Tav or Astarion is hurt in battle, but hides how much pain they’re in as to not worry the group. (Bonus if the other person blamed themselves for allowing them to get injured, by missing a shot, being the reason they got into a fight in the first place, no real reason either than their own trauma and stuff, etc.)

I'm going to discuss some of these, others I'll save to write later ;)

The first two: YES I am SO writing this!! Thank you sm! Don't wanna talk about it too much so I don't give anything away hehe

The third one is quite the question, isn't it!! First of all, I think this would have to be an AU for reasons other than the plot of the game; namely, Veles is much younger than Astarion, at least a hundred years. He wouldn't have been around 200 years ago when everything happened.

But let's say that he was. Honestly, might be a bit too optimistic, but I think Vel would've been able to help Astarion. When Veles first came to Baldur's Gate, upon organizing his life, he became somewhat of a masked vigilante. He's got experience in life or death fights and he's very skilled I like to think Vel would've rescued Astarion from his fate.

I think the same for Valeriy. He's a bit older than Veles, though still young for a demigod who cannot die from natural causes (he can only be killed). He isn't a vigilante, he's the exact opposite as a bounty hunter, but he's been rigorously trained in combat. Although he's lacking on the magical side of things, he can and will use his powers if the situation calls for it. He would've definitely saved Astarion.

As for the other way around, Veles thankfully didn't suffer many trauma upon escaping the Underdark, aside from your standard issue drow racism. If he managed to save Astarion, I imagine they'd get to work on their respective issues much sooner. Unfortunately the escape from the Underdark is something Veles would need to do on his own no matter what :(

(I wanted to write more about this topic but my brain is buffering. Sorry about that.)

Fourth: beautiful concept. Give me all the angst. 10/10 probably will write!

Fifth: I ACTUALLY ALREADY WROTE SOMETHING LIKE THIS FOR MY CANON COMPLIANT FIC. It's when the Menzoberranzan drow attack the party in the Underdark. Veles has a panic attack, ending up not participating in the fight at all. Astarion protects him and later he and Wyll help Vel calm down, however Astarion ends up injured and Veles blames himself. A lot.

But!! I'd love to write something where it's the other way around! I probably will!!

I'm gonna be honest I knew nothing about drow or dnd lore when I made my playable character in BG3 lol I saw "dark" and "elf" and my friend gave me a quick rundown of the lore background and I was like "that sounds angsty let's do it"

Needless to say I was right and I fell in love with drow over time <3

I think my favorite thing about them is their unique society!
