promiscuous
in which spencer reid doesn't like that flirty!reader is going on a date. he makes that known. (bandages universe)
flangst, 18+ for discussions of sex warnings/tags: gn!reader I think, mentions of going to a bar/going for drinks, very suppressed mutual pining, jealousy from Spencer, reader implied to engage in casual sex, reader calls themself a slut somewhat disparagingly but like as a joke, it all gets resolved, he is very sweet, he rambles when he's nervous a/n: oh God I love them so much they are like so in love and they literally have no idea at all because they're so dumb... but WE can tell.. turning point for them
âPenelope wanted me to confirm that you guys are coming to drinks with us tonight?â
Itâs something of a standing tradition for the BAU on the last Friday of every month, and usually youâd agree, but tonight, you have other plans.Â
âRaincheck for me,â you say, sliding some files into your bag which you do not plan on reviewing. âI have a thing.â
âWhat thing do you have on a Friday night?â Morgan asks skeptically. You donât bother looking at him as you hide a smile.Â
âAÂ date, Morgan. You jealous?â
âYouâre going on a date?â
Youâd nearly forgotten Spencer was in the room until he spokeâheâs been in one of those quiet moods of his where he sort of floats around everyone else and makes himself insubstantial. As you cast him a sidelong glance, trying to figure out his tone of voice, you see heâs frowning. Nearly grimacing. His brows are drawn so tight youâre worried heâll give himself a headache.Â
âUh, yeah. I am.â Suddenly, your parade feels a little rained on.Â
âWith who?â
You pause, looking back down at your desk with a new frown of your own and shaking your head as if you could clear it that way. âJust⌠some guy from OT.â
âDalton?â
Ding ding ding. Somehow he got it right on the first guess, and for some reason, you wish he hadnât. You donât want Spencer knowing who youâre going on a date with. It feels wrong.Â
âDoes it matter?â You evade, shoving your things with a little more force into your bag.Â
âWell Dalton is an idiot, so I guess Iâm just trying to figure out why youâd go out with him.â
âAnd if itâs not Dalton?â
âThen Iâd tell you all the guys in OT are idiots and you shouldnât waste your time on any of them.â
âAlrightââ Morgan passes between your desks, placing a friendly hand on your back as he does. âIâm gonna let you two hash this out by yourselves.â He gives you a look, eyebrows raised, unsmiling, that means, go easy on the kid. It makes you feel terribly guilty. And more than a little defensive.Â
âNight,â you call halfheartedly. He only waves as the glass doors swing shut behind him, leaving you and boy genius alone in the bull pen.
Silence falls, cloistering you as you finish packing up together. It seems to magnify the buzz of the overheads. You notice him intentionally lingering, and you sling your bag over your shoulder with a sigh.Â
âOkay,â you say, turning to face him with your whole body. He seems uncomfortable with that, but youâre not letting this go. âWhat is this? Why are you mad at me?â
âIâm not mad at you,â he mumbles, refusing to meet your eyes. âI just thinkââ
âYeah. Youâve made your thoughts abundantly clear. I donât know why youâre judging me for going on a date.â
âIâm not judging you! I just think you deserve better than a guy who looks like he⌠snorts protein powder for every meal and has less capacity for intelligent conversation than a mealworm.â
âOkay. Do you have someone in mind?â
The words come out a little sharper than youâd meant for them to. A little louder. Spencer looks like a scolded puppy as he swallows.Â
âNot specifically. Justâsomeone more like you.â
He just doesnât get it. You fold your jacket over your arm.Â
âYeah, well, until someone more like me comes along and asks me out, Dalton is the best Iâve got. I know heâs not my soulmate, Reid. But he asked me to drinks, and I said yes.â
The room is mostly dark. Only a few fluorescents remain on to cast Spencer in an almost clinical glow against a dark grey background. Youâve been here before. It feels like an interrogation. An environment where youâre practically begging for the truth without saying please, but thereâs only room for measured dishonesty.Â
Spencer speaks under his breath, fiddling with the strap of his own bag. âHeâs not good enough for you.â
âWhat do you want me to do?â Itâs an exasperated, confrontational sigh. Your arms raise and fall heavily back to your sides. Another long grey hallway of silence that leads nowhere. When it becomes clear he doesnât have the answer, or heâs not comfortable sharing, you straighten. âIâll see you Monday, Reid.â
Your spirits are completely dampened as you trudge to the elevators. What once seemed like an exciting opportunity now only serves as a depressing reminder that youâre wasting your time with a man who isnât what you want. Maybe you should just call the whole thing off.Â
âWait,â Spencer calls, half-jogging to catch the open elevator. His bag bobs with every step, pens and things jingling around inside. Itâs endearing, even though youâre upset with him. Your arms remain stubbornly crossed, but he makes it anyway. âIâm sorry. I didnât mean to ruin your mood.â
You laugh dryly. âYeah, wellâŚâ
âItâs just thatâŚâ he sniffs and looks down, hair falling in front of his face. He really is sweet, even when heâs kind of a dick. Heâs full of so much sincerity he doesnât know what to do with it all. âI know how you areâyouâre special, and funny, and intelligent, and, and Daltonâall those qualities are wasted on him. He looks at you and he just sees a pretty face. It may sound trite, but⌠he doesnât deserve you.â
You sigh again, heart squeezing. The glowing light on the panel of floor numbers flickers. âI know your heart is in the right place, alright? But itâs not about who deserves me or who doesnât. Iâm not a prize. Iâm a person, and people like to feel wanted. Sometimes, itâs justâitâs about whoâs there, and who likes me enough to say it to my face. Sometimes thatâs all I need, and I know you didnât mean it like this, but when you say he doesnât deserve me, it really seems like youâre not considering what I might want at all. Maybe Dalton is what I want.â
Godâthis elevator ride is like, comedically long.Â
âIs he what you want?â
At least he has the bravery to ask.Â
You glance over at Spencer, washed out bloodless and looking like heâs prepared to flinch, like he doesnât know if heâs ready for the answer. The doors ding and slide open, and stale air whooshes from the chrome compartment into the lobby like a held breath finally exhaled. You swallow.Â
âI donât know why it matters to you.â
âBecause youâre my friend and I want to see you happy,â he insists, trailing after you as you speed walk through the lobby. Every click of your heeled boots echos.Â
âThen shouldnât you be supporting me?â
âIâm not going to support you in making the wrong choice.â
The conversation spills out into the bitter-cold parking lot. You turn around to face him.Â
âRespectfully, you have no idea whatâs right or wrong for me. I donât like whatever this is,â you say, gesturing with a finger between the two of you, as if the conflict were a tangible thingâa phone line hanging between your hearts. âI donât know if itâs, like, jealousy, or some misplaced feeling of possessiveness, or protectiveness, orââ
âItâs not like that!â He splutters.Â
âOkayâso what is it like? If you want to see me happy, why donât you support me in pursuing the things that make me happy? And if thatâs meaningless sex with some guy from operational tech, so be it! You are not in a position to give your two cents on who I sleep with!â
âI wasnât trying toâI wasnât even thinking aboutâabout sex! I donât care who you sleep with!â
Heâs turning increasingly pink.Â
âFine. But if you werenât thinking about sex, if you thought I was under any illusion that Dalton was going to be my fucking Prince Charming then clearly youâre not equipped to have this conversation. I know heâs an idiot. Iâm not looking for my soulmateâthank you, though, for reminding me that itâs completely fucking pointless to even pretend. I love you, Spencer, but grow up. And stay out of my business.â
And with that, youâre turning on your heel and marching toward your car. Spencer calls your nameâonce. Twice. The wind lashes against your bare arms and stings your eyes as you fumble with your keys.Â
Itâs just the wind.Â
Nothing else.Â
-
Maybe youâre simply not meant for love.Â
Itâs a narcissistic thought in the sense that everyone has it at some point in their livesâeveryone falls victim to the delusion that they are so uniquely wretched, so singularly incapable of being understood by another person. Itâs the universal illusion of solitude. And youâd thought yourself above it for a long time. In college, there was fling after fling. Your bed was never empty if you didnât want it to be. In your young adult life, you have other prioritiesâbut you rarely have to be alone.Â
Now, though, as you sit on a rickety metal stool deep in the bowels of the Bureauâs records room, banished to sort through files in search of one that had been mishandled during a cold case and is now supposedly relevant again, (although youâre not sure it actually exists) youâre pondering the nature of those connections youâd been so sure your life was full of. Were they all artificial? Designed by you subconsciously to manufacture a sense of complacent satisfaction? To stave off the aching, gnawing loneliness in your gut that youâre only now becoming aware of and has been eating you away in bigger and bigger bites since Friday night?
Morgan was supposed to be just as arm-deep into a box of dusty manila folders as you are now, but he talked his way out of it, and youâre sitting in an awkward twenty-minute-long-so-far silence with Spencer. Which isnât helping anything.Â
The tension comes and goes like the moon pulling the tides. Itâs like you can sense it wafting off of each otherâyou feel it in the prickle on the back of your neck and the buzz in your stomach when heâs about to say something, and you glance over, and heâs already looking at you with his lips parted, and then he doesnât say anything after all, and the silence reinforces itself.Â
It gets frustrating.Â
Not to mention this task is equal parts mind numbing and infuriating. Maybe Hotch just hates you.Â
Eventually Spencer clears his throat, and you welcome the distraction.Â
âWhat year are you on?â
You give him a long look which he doesnât reciprocate, because you want to say, really? But eventually you pick up the edge of the box youâre sifting through and double check.Â
âUh⌠June 1979 through August 1979.â
He nods matter-of-facts. âThey should be making us wear gloves.â
Your incoming tangent spidey senses are tingling. Itâs not exactly an opportune time, but itâs better than silence.Â
Plusâyouâre pretty sure this is his idea of a peace offering.Â
âWhyâs that?â You mutter, flicking through yellowed papers.Â
âWood pulp paper contains an alum-rosin mixture to minimize ink bleeding, but in the presence of moisture such as that introduced in trace amounts by our fingertips it generates a diluted sulfuric acid solution. They didnât start adding alkaline buffers into paper until 1986, and the cellulose chains that comprise the structure of the paper inevitably shorten and break down over time, so weâre actively degrading these documents by touching them without gloves.â
âDid you say sulfuric acid?â
âI said a diluted sulfuric acid solution,â he clarifies, utterly missing the point of your question as he so often does in that disarmingly endearing way of his. âSorry, by the way.â
You look up from a photo of bloodied bell-bottom jeans. Heâs caught you by surprise.Â
âFor what?â
âForââ
He struggles with the wordsâyou watch his lips form a few silent ones before he gives up on the nonchalant act and sets his file on his lap. He canât seem to tear his eyes from it, but you donât mind.Â
âFor everything on Friday. I⌠I know it was none of my business. I sometimes struggle with⌠keeping my thoughts to myself. Especially when it concerns someone I care about. But I wasnât judging you, I swear. What you said aboutâabout sex, Iââ he sighs, obviously frustrated with himself, and pushes a bit of hair out of his eyes. âThatâs not where my mind was at, at all. Whatever you⌠do, or donât do, is none of my business. Obviously. You donât need me to tell you that. You donât need me to tell you anything. I just really wanted to clarify that I wasnât shaming you or judging you forââ
âSpencer,â you say gently, cutting him off and reeling him in before he can dig any deeper.Â
âYeah. Sorry.â
He glows under the canned lighting, a soft aura of white blurring the edges of him. The stale room buzzes. Itâs otherwise quiet down here. Peaceful, almost.Â
From anyone else, you might consider it overstepping.Â
You wouldnât have been willing to forgive them in the first place.Â
But itâs not anyone else.Â
âThank you, for apologizing. I really appreciate it.â
He glances up at you, sort of hunchedâalways trying to make himself smaller than whatever force created him had intended. The deep brown of his eyes is melted and swirling and sweet and nervous. Heâs not naturally good at these interpersonal things, but heâs always trying. Heâs always pushing himself for you.
Do you ask too much?Â
Do you offer enough in return?
Struck by sudden insecurity, you look away. Go back to your files.Â
Perhaps you made a mountain out of a molehill and told him to climb it.Â
âI mean, I am kind of a slut. I wouldnât blame you for thinking so,â you laugh airily. âMaybe it was a good reality check.â
A trailing silence. An air conditioner kicks on.Â
âWhat? Thatâs notâthatâs not at all what I was trying to say.â
âSpencer, itâs fine.â
His stool squeaks as he sits up straighter.Â
âNo, I really want you to understand. Even if I cared or thought about how many people you might sleep withâwhich I donâtâand even if I determined that you wereâŚÂ sexually promiscuous, I wouldnât assign a moral value to that judgement. Sexual promiscuity is observed all the time in the animal kingdom, itâs biologically sound and justified and in less misogynistic cultures where bonds forged between humans werenât socioeconomic arrangements dependent on women being viewed as commodities first and foremost, itâs completely unremarkable. But I havenât made that determination. All I know is that⌠youâre you. And thatâs all thatâs ever going to matter to me.â
Silence falls. Your voice gets stuck in your throat.Â
How does he so casually show you more kindness than anyone else has ever managed to show you in your life?
Spencer takes pity on you.Â
âAnd weâve talked entirely too much about something thatâs none of my business today.â
Itâs wry and earns a chuckle from you. Even Spencer manages a chagrined smile. That same strand of hair falls loose as he looks down. Light bounces from his self-effacing smirk.Â
You fiddle absentmindedly with the fraying corner of a folder, and youâre about to open your mouth, about to speak into the sparkling cloud that the easy laughter and the melted tension has left in its wake, and tell him how much you appreciate him and how kind he truly is and undoubtedly whatever you say will be made more beautiful because of itâbecause of the affection you have for each otherâand then you stop, eyes catching on the case file between your fingers. You frown.Â
âWaitâwhatâs the case number weâre looking for?â
â91 18 00063 7.â
You hold the file up, eyes alight.Â
âI found it.â
Spencer frowns and takes it without asking. You watch as he reviews the number in tiny black typeface along the top of the document. His brow scrunches in disbelief.Â
âI genuinely didnât think we were ever going to find it,â he murmurs after leading through the photos and glances back up at you. âWe had thirty years of boxes to look through and you found it in under an hour. Youâre like magic.â
Itâs impossible not to smile. You feel all warm and sparkly as you snatch it back from him and stand, straightening your jacket.Â
âWill you tell that to Hotch?â
âI⌠will tell anyone who will listen,â he assures you, and youâre confident heâs following as you make your way through the maze of stacks. âAre we not gonna clean up our mess?â
âThere are people who will take care of that later.â
âYeah. Like me. During my lunch break.â
âDonât worry. Youâre going to be well rewarded for your efforts today.â
âWhat does that mean?â He mumbles, and you can practically hear his blush.Â
You smile to yourself.Â
Still got it.Â

so I agree with the end result of most of what you're saying, which is that trans men shouldn't be treated as a punching bag and that some queer/feminist spaces need to get a handle on their misandry towards trans men.
but here's the thing. you said
cis men who are generally praised and celebrated in society should be able to take some mean jokes or criticisms and accept they're not always going to be lauded.
and I just don't follow that logic. criticism is one thing, but mean jokes?
I want to quickly say up top that I'm not trying to have a go at you; I see this sentiment from time to time in the (online, usually) spaces I'm in and it's something I want to push back on.
first of all, and this shouldn't matter but it will to some people: you don't know the full identity of every person you meet. you don't know who is stealth trans, or autistic, or invisibly disabled, or has a history of being bullied. in an online environment you don't even know who's a person of colour or visibly disabled.
so if you throw a blanket 'I can bully cis men who are generally lauded by society' net, you will catch men who are not lauded by society, and add to their marginalisation and likely their poor mental health. I know bully isn't a word you used, but repeatedly making jokes intended to bring someone down is going to wind up being bullying.
now I say I don't think that should matter because: what is the great harm to us, in queer/feminist spaces, if we treat everyone with respect and kindness? the usual caveats of course, if someone is being antagonistic or otherwise making a space unsafe then that should be managed as appropriate, but even then no part of that should involve stopping your respect. it certainly shouldn't involve treating them a bit 'nasty'.
part of this is recognising the difference between systemic issues and individual issues. yes, 'men', broadly speaking, are responsible for complex systems of oppression that lead to harm, abuse, marginalisation, gatekept opportunities, etc. but random Guy No 625 that shows up with his girlfriend to the bi visibility event is not personally responsible for that. maybe he's contributed to it or maybe he's spent his whole life campaigning for idk abortion rights and you have no idea. it doesn't matter. he's certainly benefited from the patriarchy; it still doesn't matter. what would bullying this man achieve? nothing.
you mention that privileged cis men need to understand that privilege isn't going to carry over to queer/feminist spaces and I do agree with that. they should be treated with the same amount of respect and consideration as everyone else, and if they're used to the world revolving around them that is going to feel like less, and their feelings shouldn't necessarily be coddled about that. but again, that's not being mean to someone, that's just treating them like a human being.
idk. we should try and live in the world we want to create. that isn't always possible, but you can definitely treat every person as an individual deserving of respect. if they turn out to be a mysoginist, just respectfully kick them out of the space and move on.
I notice sometimes in queer and feminist spaces the idea of "this group is generally given more leniency and privileges in wider society; it's okay for us to be critical or even a little nasty to them because anywhere else they'd be praised". and that's understandable, i think. when you have real issues with men and how men act, it's ok to express that and to mock mens behavior. cis men who are generally praised and celebrated in society should be able to take some mean jokes or criticisms and accept they're not always going to be lauded.
but since queer and feminist spaces are generally more accepting of trans people and the wider society is not, this is also projected on to trans men. "trans men are men" was an affirming statement to our validity, but that was interpreted as "since trans men are men, and men are celebrated by society, I get to be a little nasty to them because the rest of society worships men. they can take it."
but the rest of society doesn't have that same level of trans acceptance. they don't see trans men as men, they see trans men as mentally ill, broken, mutilated women. so it's absolutely aggravating when we turn to queer and feminist spaces for solidarity, we face the same reactive nastiness cis men get and are told "come on, trans men are men. you are celebrated in society. you can take it." and when we look at the rest of society there's no celebration. there's only more nastiness and cruelty. so how can we "take it" when we have no community that accepts us and treats us without mockery? we don't have the shelter of acceptance that cis men have in the status quo, and sometimes we can't find a small umbrella of acceptance in queer communities either.
to be honest, I think a lot of people view trans men as a safe punching bag to vent their frustrations with men. you can mistreat a trans man and he's probably not going to fight you back since he's already so beat down. you can feel like you put a man in his place, you can feel like you're resisting the patriarchy. but all you did was act cruel to a marginalized person. and you know if you treated a cis man like that you might be putting yourself in danger, cos he might not take it lying down and he might not care as much about your wellbeing!
trans men are men, but trans men are not cis men. cis men are lauded and celebrated in society as long as they conform to the gender roles that were placed on them at birth. and this privilege is extremely conditional and not equally spread between men of different sexualities, races, ethnicities, ability, age, etc; trans men and intersex men are thrown to the side completely. I understand needing to vent about men. trans men do it too. but a persistent attitude of resentment and cruelty towards all men, including trans men, is not activism. all you do is push marginalized men out of the only communities they belong
#I realise this is complex and especially FEELS complex to people who've been harmed by men and are dealing with trauma from that#I'm not saying everyone has to be perfect at this#but I saw your initial assertion that of course men should be put down for the crimes of the patriarchy#and it just made me sad#that's a good chunk of the population#you express how it can be extended to you by people following that principle overzealously#who is this helping?#I certainly don't have all the answers or experience#but I know that when I've been a leader in spaces and allowed 'punching up' jokes to happen#not even to the person from the demographic it was about but just in their vicinity#it has led to way more harm than good#in this case yes he was a gay man in a queer group and the dominance of gay men organising our parade (at the time) made many events#exclusionary#but a joke doesn't capture any nuance so instead it just insulted gay men broadly speaking#in front of a survivor of conversion practices#as you can imagine that didn't go great#so like#just be respectful of people#regardless of who they are#that doesn't mean you have to be friends with them just#yeah#anyway I hope I've made sense#pretty sure the tags haven't

hey there! i donât mean this in bad faith at all, and iâm not trying to use a term thatâs a fascist dogwhistle. i promise iâm just confusedđ
so iâm not a guy, nor have i ever been perceived as one, but in one of your recent posts, you said that men canât experience oppression solely based on the fact that theyâre men. which was kind of confusing to me â i donât think youâre wrong, i think itâs me but i donât know how to get to how you see it like that.
because in my experience, men can experience oppression because theyâre men, although i donât know if iâm saying that right or conflating the meanings of certain terms. iâm probably wrong, and would just love some clarification?
for example, my brother and i were always held to different standards growing up â it was expected of me to always cry and be emotional, and i was a âstone cold bitchâ if that wasnât the case, but if my brother wanted to show negative emotions like sadness he was treated like there was something wrong with him too. and i know it wasnât my brother â i spend a lot of time working with my high schoolâs diversity team, and in a lot of the events we organise, guys talk about how they feel enormous pressure to be angry and never sad, and to have stereotypically masculine interests and never deviate from that norm.
i also know men whoâve struggled to get jobs such as teaching as those are viewed as âfemaleâ jobs and itâs a common view that men who want those jobs are âonly in it to be around kidsâ. iâve heard many women around me perpetuate sentiments like that, so i know theyâre not making it up, even if it isnât equal to the systematic oppression women face in almost every aspect of their careers.
iâm not providing these examples to prove you wrong, since i do think youâre right. iâm hoping that a window into the way iâve always thought might help you clarify this in a way that can help me to change my mind, since i just think iâm lacking some clarity or context here. i think iâm conflating abuse and stereotypes with oppression, but iâm really not sure. any advice would be really appreciated!
iâm so sorry if this comes off badly, i donât mean it that way. iâm just trying to learn, i promise iâm not trying to promote the kind of hate and close mindedness youâve been seeing in your inbox as of late.
Hi! As always, I do not mind answering genuine questions!
The things you're talking about growing up and seeing boys around you pressured to present only certain emotions, that's part of the patriarchy!
Certain emotions are supposed to be "feminine" and thus boys shouldn't show them, while girls are often always considered "emotional" in some fashion. That's not oppression based on those boys being men that you're talking about.
It's the backlash that the patriarchy, and by addition trans/misogyny has on men. It's boys being pressured not to show certain emotions because those emotions are "feminine" and they're supposed to associate feminimity with weakness and shit.
What you're talking about there is also trans/misogyny!
The idea that men who do things perceived as feminine are predators, the idea that specific jobs are "female" jobs [while even in those specific female jobs, men are generally paid better and find it easier to get into those jobs than women trying to get into traditionally "male" jobs"]
[Though obviously this varies based on race and whether they're trans, etc, etc.]
To be a little more clear, all of the things you're talking about don't primarily affect cis men/boys. They fuck up transfems, because it's trans/misogyny.
You're right! It's not systemic oppression.
You might wonder if it's social oppression, which is also a no. Social oppression would require a historical/systemic oppression behind it. But that doesn't exist in this case.
What it is is the common issue oppressors run into. While they benefit greatly from oppression, there is also backlash they face from their own systems of oppression.
Like white people who fall into suicide cults trying to work towards white supremacy, or TERFs who fall into groups where they slowly pick each other off as they discover they're not all exactly the same and wind up accusing each other of not being "real" women, systems of bigotry simply do not work out perfectly even for the oppressors.
They never do.
To create the patriarchy, you must establish trans/misogyny, you must establish intersexism and you must push people to conform to those ideals, even if they hurt your own.
It's similar to how white supremacy can harm white people, despite white people obviously not being oppressed racially. The backlash of oppression hits even the oppressors sometimes.
Suppression, as a term, would honestly work far better to describe what you're talking about.
So yes, it's stereotyping, yes it's abusive to tell your children not to show/feel their emotions but it's not oppression based on these guys in your life being men! It's part of how trans/misogyny, transphobia and intersexism are enforced.
I understand exactly where you're coming from! It doesn't sound bad and I genuinely don't mind answering questions! Especially since you've got some good ones!
I'm not sure if I rambled too much to explain this properly but I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions and/or need me to clarify anything here. <33

btw america has some kind of fucked cw supernatural esque view of the "working class" and who counts like it loves the idea of "small family businesses" and petit bourgeoisie small business owners at the same time it shits on all kinds of service sector jobs like mcdonalds fry guys and the pink-collar and often more highly educated jobs like teachers, nurses, and civil servants. (it does not like to do things to support small and medium sized businsses against mass corporations though - that would be bailouts and gov money!)
it also has a fundamentally whacko idea of "blue collar" professions like farmers, plumbers, and electrical engineers while remaining totally unaware of the fact that with modernity and rising technological advancement a lot of those jobs require more training and sketchy urban liberal college degrees and little computer things. and it totally ignores the undocumented mass labour force in the country.
like that's the thing about all these political back and forths about "the working class" and what it is and what jobs they contain- they're for an idea of america that never existed and certainly doesn't exist now

im still thinking of the lost sibling AU. Let's make it for the halloween event guys. Spoilers below the cut for the most recent JP event with Skully.
Rollo has already been talked about for Glomas.
Now for playful land I was thinking Fellow/Ernesto at first.... But I actually think I like the idea of Yuu in that AU being Gidel/Gino's twin. Just cute little kid who becomes psudo adopted by the older NRC boys. Yuu who's actually pretty bright and loves to learn. I even like the idea that if Gidel is twisted from Gideon, then Yuu is twisted from Figaro. The two look different enough that people don't peg them as siblings right away(Yuu has black hair and yellow eyes like Figaro. Also a nod to the fact a litter of kittens can have multiple fathers and coat patterns)
once it's figured out. Of course Fellow and Gidel have to come to NRC and Ramshackle! What kind of big brother would Fellow be if he didn't keep an eye out on his new sibling? Why so shocked? If he's Gidel's big bro he must be Yuu's big bro right? The NRC boys call bull on that. If anybody is Yuu's big bro it's them.
And Gidel and Yuu are just happy to have somebody their own age and they're siblings too! Yuu happily speaks up for Gidel and is absolutely "He asked for no pickles" with Gidel nodding his head along. Yuu actually even tries to help Fellow and Gidel with learning to read, write, math... Etc....
Nightmare before Christmas event. Skully's twin. Now Skully's human and he died centuries ago before the start. Well, what if Yuu died and reincarnated? Separated all those centuries ago. What if the two actually got to grow up together. Yuu being one of the few people who genuinely understood Skully. Even if he didn't have friends at NRC, his twin Yuu was his biggest support.
and then Yuu passed away while they were teens when both were attending NRC. Maybe Yuu died before Skully did and his soul lingered around ramshackle because he wants one chance to see his twin again. A reincarnated Yuu arriving and Skully not having enough energy to show himself but he follows Yuu around because he just feels a connection with them so he always worries about them. Oh how he wished he could have given those other ghosts a thrashing when they kicked Yuu out of Ramshackle during the ghost marriage event!
Then they all get sucked into the book, including ghost Skully. Skully, who hasn't been solid for centuries can finally touch people again. Skully who can't help but cradle Yuu gently while they're asleep. He's always wanted to be able to talk to them. When Yuu awakens they're not really bothered by Skully. In fact, he feels kind of familiar but they can't place from where.
Afterwards once everybody is free from the book, the truth of Skully is revealed and Yuu asks for the portrait. Saying how they think it should be in Ramshackle. Wasn't that Skully's dorm after all?(I say yes in this AU)
Skully's spirit who lingers, back to watching over Yuu but slowly growing stronger and hopefully can even become corporeal enough to interact directly. If not, He'll just have to talk to them again once Halloween comes around again. They have centuries of catching to do.

Welp, I'm kinda back to request the guy again(y'know the RSA Silver anon). Tho you can call me as đľ anon. Thanks tho.
So I kinda have some little new idea pop in my head, I got the idea when I read some old scenarios. About Silver and Sebek, having a crush on Yuu. Then tries to fight over Yuu's attention. Just imagine they fight over Yuu and Yuu accidentally getting squish between their chest I mean check their PE uniform card, while they get too busy having a staring competition to notice Yuu got squish. Yuu intensely blushing, probably almost fainting
I hope you don't mind this.
silver and sebek fighting "over" yuu/reader â§ď˝Ľďž

Name change initiated, tags updated.
Hello! I don't mind this! I like Silver and the rest of Diasomnia (though my personal bias is Malleus xD) And I hope I interpreted your idea well! My sincere apologies for taking a longer time to get this out, my health is not doing well at the moment.
Note to anyone looking to request that I currently have a very big request for all the first years in the works and it is taking me some time to complete. That said, requests will be slow to go out but are open, actually.
.
Summary:Â [Name] is swept up in an argument between Silver and Sebek Zigvolt during flight class. Were they always this built?
TW/CW:Â None
Notes:Â pre-relationship, the reader is described as smaller than Sebek/Silver, the reader is the Ramshackle Prefect/Yuu, they/them pronouns for the reader
Guest Stars:Â Grim, Malleus Draconia (mentioned)

Silver & Sebek Zigvolt
Silver did not plan to be in the argument in the first place.
He isn't a very confrontational personality to begin with.
That, and his father raised him better (or he says that).
And meanwhile, Sebek is just Sebek-ing, that's how it starts.
The argument doesn't begin with Malleus but it's sure about Malleus now and Silver kind of wants to punch Sebek.
Sebek throws the first punch and Silver is defending himself.
The two of them are airheads sometimes and forget they're in a joint class and there are people everywhere.
[Name] is smaller than the two of them and ends up caught between them but neither of them cares to notice.
[Full Name] you are about to experience being smooshed between two guys who have trained as guards since childhood.
Sebek is still more or less yelling.
Silver effectively politely conveys "Shut the fuck up."
[Name] and the other students are BAFFLED.
It seemed that it would be a while before this is resolved...
Silver is the one to point out this is a ... position.
Sebek gets offended that Silver is protecting [Name].
But why? WHAT IS THIS HUMAN DOING TO HIM?
Silver chooses to repress his feelings.
Trauma responses or something (Book 7 did things to me)
Then [Name] fainted and both boys began to p a n i c !!
"This is all your fault, Silver!"
"Sebek, be quite."
Silver's expression might have seemed neutral to anyone in Vargas' PE class who was watching but Sebek recognized this type of expression from his childhood. Silver was glaring daggers at him from his group's area.
But! This was a fight and Sebek would win (for Malleus).
"HOW DARE YOU INSULT WAKA-SAMA?!??" Sebek roared, ignoring the class around him as all of his senses focused on that cat.
It would be good to note that while it was a "fight." it was a fight that Silver did not want to be in. How had it even begun? Silver wasn't sure. He was trying to talk to one of his classmates about something and then Sebek started yelling (really, who decided to let joint classes be with the first years?) and soon after, this had started.
"NYA! WHAT DID YOU SAY EYEBROWS?" Grim fired back at Sebek.
Raised by General Lilia Vanrouge, Silver has some quirks that others are quick to point out. He grew up in Briar Valley, after all. His "human skills" leave much to be desired. Still, Lilia instilled a sense of justice in Silver, and the knowledge that you should not say nasty things about others if they are your friends.
Silver sighed. This was why he decided to keep his thoughts on today's PE incident to himself. It would be better for everyone that way. But his emotions, the ones he tried to ignore, made things harder for him sometimes.
[Name] is being a bit daft, though. Why did they get involved?
As Sebek yelled at Grim, the cat jumped into his human half's arms and caused Sebek to, as he was trying to grab Grim, get much too close to the Prefect (for safety and for Silver to accept).
He sighed again as he took several steps over to the trio and attempted to intimidate Sebek away from [Name].
"Sebek, cease this at once. This is unbecoming," Silver told him, standing just behind the Prefect and staring Sebek down.
"Silver, stay out of this!" Sebek hissed at him, not realizing how close he was to the Prefect, "I need to finish this."
"Malleus-sama would not approve..." Silver continued slowly.
He took a step closer.
"I am doing this for his honor, that cat insulted him!!"
Sebek pushed closer and Silver couldn't mask his irritation. Sebek would not listen to Silver and the light-haired man knew this.
"Even if he did, you're much too close to [Name]," the second-year added.
As each boy moved closer, they had [Name] cornered.
"Are you insinuating that you have some kind of claim over this human?" Sebek asked, nearly scoffing as if insulted by the concept.
"No, I am saying you're too close to them. Be polite."
"Silver, you speak and act so boldly for someone taken in off the streets," Sebek told him, bringing up a longstanding issue between them.
He had to ignore this. It wasn't supposed to be something shared with others, that he was taken in by Lilia, that Lilia was his father.
"This isn't about that. You're being rude."
Silver had never wanted to punch Sebek more than he did at this moment.
Smushed between the two guards, [Name] held Grim close to their chest. They could spell the faint scent of flowers from Silver whereas Sebek smelled like tea. They were able to see now, up close and personally, that Malleus' guards were strong, built young men, not as lean as some of the other students at Night Raven.
A few moments passed as Silver and Sebek attempted to stare each other down, other students beginning to watch the interaction, waiting for a fight to break out. It was a miracle that Vargas did not notice the commotion but he was busy telling some poor student about his great and important very heroic deeds.
"... Grim, I think I am going to die," [Name] whispered to the cat.
Startled, Grim looked up at them with such a sudden motion he jostled their spot between Silver and Sebek slightly.
"Nya?? Don't die, [Name]!!"
But the Prefect could not hear them anymore, they were dead to the world for the foreseeable future. With a bright red face, they looked somewhere between embarrassed and feverish.
"Oh no. [Name], are you okay?"
Silver moved away from Sebek as the green-haired boy did the same. Sebek noticed the state of the Ramshackle Prefect instantly.
"AAH! THE HUMAN NEEDS MEDICAL ATTENTION!!" Sebek shouted
For a moment, Silver wished that Sebek had a volume button he could (politely) turn down. It would save everyone a lot of grief.
All of this attracted the attention of Vargas who shipped around and sprinted over to them, forgetting his discussion of heroism with that poor, poor unsuspecting student.
"Don't yell," Silver told Sebek as he noticed Vargas speeding in their direction, his voice sounding like a whisper in comparison to Sebek's yells.
"HAH? This is all your fault, Silver!"
"Sebek. I said... Quiet down."
Today would be a long day for everyone...
.
Imagine the rest for yourself~

Ah ! THANK YOU !!
-someone who's not a guy, has no religion, is not straight (even if part of the community throws us in the same bag because they need someone to hate), has not a high income, is not fully able-bodied, is not neurotypical, is not from just one country.
Assholes will always be a majority in a group of [insert characteristic(s) here]. But if decent, kind, tolerant, comprehensive, open-minded people exist in the same group, then maybe it's not because of the characteristic(s), but because of behaving like assholes.
What makes an asshole ? Behaving like one. Often their main tool is hatred, and the secondary tools deriving from that are fear, violence, rejection, generalization and oppression to crush and isolate others.
If you use those tools, and moreover in that way, you're an asshole. Your [specific characteristic(s) here] doesn't exempt you from that nor makes you harmless, and same way in reverse : having a [specific characteristic(s) here] doesn't make people automatically harmful.
If you absolutely want to seek an enemy, seek a concept, seek an idea, seek moral values : xenophobia, genocide, sexism, racism, fanatism, segregation, bans on human rights...
Or else it's just about having someone to hate, and in that you won't be any different from those you hate.
I'm not saying you can't clap back : do fight back. But don't use the same tools, or at least not in the same way, and don't use them on the wrong people. Don't reject, don't generalize, don't oppress, don't isolate. Or else you're just gonna loose allies that want the world to be better, one step at a time, just like you, on the ground that "they're not like you."
Sounds familiar ?
Yeah. Let's not do that. And if we really do have to use those tools, let's not play their game.
-Sincerely, someone who lived through racism (on both sides of my two countries), abuse, bullying (to the point of some scars) partially for religious reasons, a bit of sexism, a bit of ableism, orientation-related phobia, someone who has hurt and as a result started to hurt people in turn, didn't aimed right, hurt the ones I didn't wanna hurt, and contributed to fucking things up further in that regard, only to turn back around and see that I had destroyed things with the exact same tools in the exact same way as those who are responsible of my pain in the first place : ergo, being an asshole.
Nobody's entitled to suffering. Take it from me.
But we can make goddamn sure it never happens the fuck again.
In these trying times itâs incredibly important to remember:
Men are not the enemy. Misogynists are.
Christians are not the enemy. Christian nationalism is.
Cishet people are not the enemy. Homophobes and transphobes are.
White people are not the enemy. Racist people are.
People who have a high income are not the enemy. Billionaires are.
We cannot let the right divide us. That has been one of their most damning tactics for decades. They want us to be divided. One of the most important things we can do right now is form communities, trust each other, and unite as one even though some of us may have differences.

head on desk. god i want to play hades 2 so bad
#was on youtube and saw the funniest piece of dialogue between melinoĂŤ and chronos aodbekfnsjf#also i rewatched the reveal trailer and remembered when i had no clue what it all meant#'oh hey new game. why is everyone freaking ou- OHHHHHHH'#fast forward like 18 months and now i'm absolutely obsessed#honestly i could. maybe wait until the full version is out#then i could play it on switch#but i'm. i really should do this honestly#i hate that i should. but it's still somehow cheaper overall than buying a fully constructed PC#<- guy who has no idea what they're doing#i should. ask my dad for help. he's a systems admin/engineer#but my currently PC is. it's old. it barely runs.#and the fact that i'm using it for games and it can't play a 2024 game isn't great. like at all#it's not even a big game like bg3. it's not very big at all#but the thing can barely handle the first game. like my SWITCH is better at handling it at times#đđđ i'm just having so much anxiety about it

Okay so in the books, Jack IS in fact. An alien. A whole ass alien. I like to play with that concept with canon modern Jack because he sometimes, in my head, he does weird stuff. Weird, even for a spirit. And he see's sandy or some of the guardians who, also are aliens, and goes 'yeah that normal. that's about right' and the others are like What the Fuck are you guys talking about? I mean Jack basically got reverse lived by the moon, which again, is a spaceship in the books. All I'm saying is that being Jack frost has to be very funny. Jack has SO much time to think. He's such an aloof guy. A funny guy. WRONG. MY GUY IS A NERD AND SPENDS MOST OF THE TIME STUCK IN THE LIBRARY READING ABOUT THE THINGS HE WISHES HE COULD EXPERIENCE FOR HIMSELF!! AND NOW HE CAN INTERACT FOR BRIEF PERIODS OF TIME WITH PEOPLE! Why? Because apparently the power of belief that kids have with Santa is KINDA SIMILAR to the belief that people have when it comes to famous people. It's like people think they're some otherworldy being or something. People think about famous people like they're Some Other Thing, and that's exactly what JACK is. So IT WORKS. Anyway so Jack starts popping around places for fun, it's his thing. Thing is--okay. Okay so. So the way I see it, there has to be a reason why no one can tell Jack is there--I mean, his powers are perfectly visible. He could make some snow/ice/frost fancy show of power or something and boom. But there has to be a reason why that doesn't work. The way I see it, our brains would have to--kind of bypass the magic and hijack (lol) the mental train onto the next, closer train of association thought. Something happens? Oh, must be for X reason! Okay. The brain explains it, and Jack gets shoved into the background. Cool. But in modern times? In modern times, we see something shiny, some fancy show of ice and snow and we think 'OH. SOMEONE IS DOING A TRICK. A SHOW. A SOMETHING. OH MAN THESE 3D GENERATED STUFF IS REALLY COOL GUYS WHERE'S THE MUSIC'. So basically--our modern, 2024 year of our lord chains of thought become something that Jack can...wear a suit into. He can go 'oh, so the people DO believe there's someone doing all this. Not Jack Frost...BUT. But maybe I could invent A NEW Jack Frost. The alter ego. AND IT WORKS. IT actually works. It's a loophole! whoo! In essence: He exists as long as he becomes the 'idea' plausible of being perceived. Anyway yeah that's. yeah, there you go, thoughts. In no particular order. I hope it made sense
Something something AU in which Jack can be seen but ONLY as his street performer persona (named jack frost obv). Somehow he gained a reputation by appearing in the most random locations at the most random times, bypassing security and hijacking public events to put on a cool show. (Sort of like the Step it up movies, remember those?) No one knows how he does it, just that he does. People have theories. He denies none of them.
North: You have believers? Jack: Even better. Jack: I have a sponsor.

I was wondering if you make a shipchild design for the elora and peepers shipchild? And curious to know how it turns out or would look like. And who would/which one take after their parents..
I can't really ever picture them having kids, but..... IF THEY WERE TO.......
TEEHEE this is Victoria :33 She's a flashlight fish!!! She's probably a little spoiled, but smart and charming nonetheless!!!
Siggghhhhh chat I'm sorry is this the end for me
#i actually can't really picture them having kids mostly because Elora has NO idea how children work or what to do with them#and Peepers bullies them for sport so#erm#IDC i lowkey had fun making her.... guys im so cooked.....#this is obviously not canon but....wow ...hai vicky....welcome to the world fr...#also?? I'm on the transmasc Peepers bandwagon so there really wouldn't be a way for thwm to have kids that were biologically theirs#but they're cartoon aliens so who gives a fart#wander over yonder#woy oc#woy ocs#ship kids#fankid#my art

I wanna know ur Fontaine msq criticisms đď¸đď¸đIâm all ears
I'm not sure if you wanted me to talk about this secretly or publicly but! Here I go!
The TLDR: Fontaine MSQ aestheticised prison, poverty, child abuse, the justice system/court and didn't properly address any of it.
More:
Focalors/Furina has way too much of a sympathetic angle for a dictator who's lets people drown with her inaction.
Neuvillette feels Bad for sentencing some people to death/prison, but that's it. He's one of the most powerful people in Fontaine. If he felt like there are systemic injustices, I.E sending an abused Child to prison, he should be the first person to DO something about it, not just cry and be sad so the audience can be like aw, that's complex character writing isn't it? No it's not! And guilt doesn't absolve you!!!!!!! (These are stuff we deal with in OTCOJ read my fic now /j)
Meropide has children in it, both Sentenced there (Wriothesley) and BORN THERE (Lanoire), and this is just a quirk of the place. Not only that, Meropide accepts prisoners of all genders and crimes. There are abusers and abuse victims in one place. Do you know how bad that is? How much potential for crimes to happen in a place like thatâ oh wait, Meropide isn't under Fontaine's jurisdiction. If you are assaulted as an inmate it literally means nothing to the court.
Wriothesley had no qualifications when he took over. Depending on how long he lived on the streets, how old he was when he killed his parents, how old he was when he was first taken in by the orphanage, etc, the man might never have more than 4â5 years of formal education. Sigewinne probably had to teach him how to write reports. And do Meropide's spreadsheets. Edit because I forgot to elaborate on this one: This isn't a point brought up anywhere, which is bad, because when poverty and incarceration robs you of a proper education (and the rights to vote in many places too, too, by the way), it reduces your prospects for jobs, reduces many people's ability to get a home etc etc. Wriothesley was just, narratively, Given his position.
Meropide is an industrialized prison, and they portray this as a good thing. Prisoners are paid in coupons for their labour, and this is also portrayed as a good thing.
The One-Meal-A-Day reform was something Paimon gushed about being so great of a perk, that people might want to go to jail for food (could be interesting and reflective of systemic poverty if MHY had brains, but they don't, so I was just Pissed because essentially all Paimon wanted to say was "Prison isn't so bad, but still don't go to prison guys! Prison labour is really hard!"). By the way, in most real-world prisons they are obligated to feed you three meals a day. Because that's how much food a human needs. MHY went with one meal just so they can say "if you want to eat more, you have to work." And then the welfare meal is a goddamn gacha. So imagine you're a starving child who's too weak to work in the fucking robot assembly line, and you wander up for your first meal in 24 hours, only to luck in with a shit one. I'd kill myself.
They wrote Wriothesley, who's a victim of the system, into a guy who's say shit like "I'm the Duke I can do whatever I want" for a cool moment where he choke-slams an inmate (I know he was a bad guy. But also, in copaganda when cops are violent/disregarding protocols, they are always only portrayed to do that against bad guys, so what does our critical thinking tells us about this one?) They wrote Wriothesley, who was an inmate of a prison so bad, so notorious that it is the literal boogeyman of Fontaine, that has a legal (???) fighting pit, with an administrator who abuses his position to be unreasonable, to willingly stay in the place and become an Administrator who would choke-slam an inmate while saying a cool line about how he has the power to do whatever he wants. They wrote him, the guy who had to be fed on the streets by melusines, to think one-meal-a-day was a good enough reform (while he spends god-knows how much on his boat). This wasn't a victim-turns-into-abuser narrative either, they want all this to be seen as positive character growth.
And then, the final kicker is, they gloss over his entire abuse. You can only read about these shit in his profile, which most people don't because they don't Have Him or doesn't care to unlock it/read it online, and they jammed his entire backstory into a flaccid info-dump at the end of his character story quest. This man isn't Allowed to feel abused and neglected and show any reaction to it within the narrative of Fontaine itself, because if they actually Gave Weight to what happened to him, they'd have to confront THE FUCKING JUSTICE SYSTEM they had NO PLANS on criticising. I don't think they ever explicitly said the fucking Crime-Theatre nonsense was Bad either.
I could go on, but this is already so long. But yeah, I hope this gave you an idea.
#and then. and im putting my most controversial opinion in the tags bc im scared lmao. but like... then... you have the fans..... doing......#the same fucking thing.#the amount of times I have seen Wriothesley used as just a side prop for Neuvillette to feel bad about shit. While Wriothesley is just.....#portrayed as having the inner peace and acceptance of a fucking monk. I was shocked when I read some fics I swear#they really said this man has no trauma at all! the stuff in his past? he's over it!#i hate that passivity when writing victims. like ok if One is written like that#sure. but MHY write all their victims like this#I mean look at fucking Lanoire#and Neuvillette sentenced him to prison after he killed his parents who were never confronted by the law. That's canon.#that's more canon than WRLT itself.#why weren't they confronted? did wriothesley try to talk to someone about it? why did he feel like killing them is his only option ?????#at least have there be some sort of conflict and friction there. How does Wriothesley feel about the court and Neuvillette when#this is the literal system that allowed all that shit to happen to him in the first place???#are you Sure he won't be at least a little wary? the fact that some people think he's Grateful to Neuvillette or even idolises him is crazy#because the man literally subjected him to prison. and if you want to portray his prison life as easy breezy and trauma free#you undermine his entire shitty little 'prison reform' narrative#and if you think he'd be completely 100% accepting of the justice system. Then why the fuck would he kill his parents himself#don't you see that the whole 'I'll accept whatever sentence in order to kill my parents' thing in itself is an act of defying the system#and I Hate#this idea. about being some of the most powerful men in the nation. and yet they can't fucking TRY to set up a better system or smth#i can't believe I read a fic where leaving starving street kids croissants is the most they (the characters and the writer) want to do#like. what the fuck. the whole point of that scene is just to make neuvillette feel bad and be like aw......... poor people exist.... OK???#this is literally how MHY would portray him though.... tbf..... This is what ppl would argue as 'in character'#I just think the character they're in is bad.#I will say I'm giving the fic a lot of grief. there's more to the scene than that. and. ultimately.....#fanfic is (saying this through gritted teeth) ........ recreational....................and free........... in the end.................#i dont think this is reflective of the writer. I do think it is reflective of the way the canon material (genshin impact)#presents in the audience who consumes it. most fans only want these guys to fuck anyway. not think about systemic injustices#canon doesn't make it about the systemic injustices either so why should we. the aesthetic of slums and prisons are just there for fun guys#IM JUST CRAZY OK. I SHOULDNT EVEN BE HERE THIS IS NOT FOR ME . I DONT CARE THAT MUCH FOR PEOPLE FUCKING AND I CARE TOO MUCH

Men who view women as their intellectual equals đ
#pro tip for the boys: a lot of girls will respond a lot better to a stimulating conversation than to a guy trying to show off#ignore the movies they're lying to you when they tell you you need to be a show off#and if a girl wants that it's maybe not the best sign y'know?#but most girls just want to be treated like we're capable intelligent humans#that's all!! the movies and shit make it way more complicated than it has to be#and yes some girls do make things awkward and complicate everything#but maybe you wanna be careful about that because those girls generally have a lot to unpack#being friends with those girls is fine!! just make sure you have strong boundaries in place#and make sure she's doing some work on herself before considering a romantic relationship#but anyway i've had a lot of men in my life that i feel like wanted to be so much smarter than me#and not to be rude but they weren't?? i was just as smart and sometimes smarter#i didn't care that they were confident in their intelligence but i felt like i needed to dumb myself down#and it. freaking. sucked. i have no idea how i did it for so long#and i would even make jokes about like the guys i dated being smarter than me and nobody ever said anything??#and again these guys weren't smarter than me. that's not an insult to them just acknowledging i'm smarter than i was gave myself credit for#i'm outgrowing the notion that i have to dumb myself down for men and it's so freeing#and you know what really helps me actually? being in college#and especially being in college with so many intelligent men who know they're smart#these guys KNOW they're smart. and not in an arrogant way in a secure and confident way#them knowing they're smart makes them the OPPOSITE of arrogant actually#it's weird but i stand by my observation and it makes sense when you think about it#if you're secure in yourself and your intelligence you don't need to proce yourself by making other people look dumb#these guys are secure in their self-image and masculinity. they don't need women to be dumb and weak to feel strong and intelligent.#and it's so freaking endearing. i love that for these guys so much.#i am just so thankful for people in my life who are taking me seriously and who are helping me to understand i'm worth taking seriously.#wow these tags are long but anyway#guys you don't have to prove anything girls you should never have to dumb yourselves down live long and prosper

I love this so much. He's just as handsome as Katrine. â¤ď¸ I like to imagine that they shared a very long and happy life after the war. I guess it took some time for Chuck/Amal to get accustumed to life in France but he's an open-minded guy and he trusts Katrine blindly.
Oh, this gives me so many ideas... Based on the actors' ages, Katrine and Chuck would've both been born around 1900. That means they both lived through not only one but two world wars.
I think it made especially Katrine grow up fast. Her father and fiancĂŠ (Justin) died on a mission in the last days of WW1 while she had to look after her mother and early teenage sister, Phoebe.
I imagine this experience of hardship made Katrine decide to live her life to the fullest, which is why she moved to Paris in the 1920ies and threw herself into the party scene. She tried to make a living as a bar singer but - while talented in many areas - had to realise that singing wasn't among them (just watch Kate Mulgrew as a country singer in "Dallas". đ). It's still a sore spot for Katrine which is why she's a tad too salty with Mademoiselle DeNeuf.
Interwar-Paris is also the time and place where Katrine becomes politicised. She meets and befriends Tuvok (a highly educated man from one of the French colonies in Africa), who introduces her to the political circles that will later form the Resistance. It's also where she meets Mark, who becomes her second fiancĂŠ.
When Nazi Germany takes over Paris in 1940, Katrine and Tuvok flee to St. Claire in the south of France, where they open the 'Coeur de Lion' to run their Resistance cell. Mark joins the French Army and is soon lost. When Katrine meets Chuck, Mark has been missing for over four years and she has to assume that he's dead. When Mark returns, Chuck and Katrine were just married and run the 'Coeur de Lion' together. After an emotional reunion, everyone's just happy that they're all still alive and remain friends. Mark moves to QuĂŠbec to start a new life.

Ah, I think that's enough for now. đ I'd like to have Chuck a background as a Native American but I don't know enough about how that might play into the WW2 scenario and how he grew up.
There are also many questions still open: Do Katrine and Chakotay have a child? What do they do in the 1950ies, 60s, 70s and 80s?
I'm pretty convinced they'd be a part of the civil rights movement in the 60s/70s. How do they eventually die?

with my phantom hourglass replay, there are two things i noticed;
a possible theme you could glean from the game is action vs inaction, and i think it's especially prevalent before you even leave mercay the first time, with oshus frequently urging link to not go after the ghost ship, then to just wait until the broken bridge is fixed, and seems reluctant at every turn while link and ciela are more than eager to go and do something about this problem, and the people of mercay in general talking about things and their problems but never seeming to act on their fears or desires, as well as the mention that due to the ghost ship, very very few people are still sailing around, while linebeck is one of the only people we see in the game actively going after the ghost ship and still sailing around. i might make a longer post just talking more about the action vs inaction in phantom hourglass but i just noticed it a bit and thought it was a bit of an interesting sort of theme you could find in the game.
linebeck moves so fucking much. i think he moves more than any npc in the rest of the game. not just in his intro cutscene where he is very animated, just in how much he moves when just standing in his little idle post, it's damn near distracting when the camera is focused on him, he moves a lot. i don't think i've really acknowledged how much he moves, and it really gives the impression that he's antsy or eager to get going, both of which fit him pretty well with how he acts.
#phantom hourglass#linebeck#loz#legend of zelda#salty talks#imo the action vs inaction thing feels esp interesting to me when looking at oshus specifically. he and his world are in grave danger#and he knows it and he actively does nothing and even seems reluctant to let ciela and link go ahead and do something.#of course he comes around on it but it's very interesting. has he given up at that point? thats what it suggests to me#that hes like. joined the people of mercay in just lying down and waiting for other people to fix their problems or just. not do anything#otherwise on mercay you have that old guy in the bar who spends the whole game not leaving bc he doesnt want to face his wife#and she never goes to the bar to actually look for him and just talks about it if anything#the guy with the blue tunic talks a lot about linebeck and his ship and almost gives the impression that he really wants to talk to him#but yknow. doesnt. theres the women that tells you about docks being shut down and how linebeck is the only person who's showed up#the woman you see at the broken bridge who's just like oh well! time to wait til someone fixes it.#even the guy fixing the bridge iirc is like well fuck i gotta do it or else oshus is going to bitch at me abt it#everyone seems reluctant to act which makes for an interesting way in how our main crew stands out#it is less so oh theyve been chosen specifically for this its moreso they're the ones who are fucking doing something about this#for their own various reasons some of which are more selfish but theyre still doing something#will likely have more stuff to say when im done but ofc we have other characters in the game who have to do with this#anyways. linebeck is so animated all of the fucking time it's great i dont think theres any other character that moves as much as him#when he's just standing around to talking to link it's great. he's so ready to get going.#it works with him being an anxious mess and also with like. oh he's probably understimulated. you know he's got a nasty case of wanderlust#i can put it with the idea that he's understimulated and afraid to stim in public so he's just constantly moving#he probably drums his fingers on tables bounces his leg when sitting paces around switches the way he sits or lays down often#tbh this kinda fits in with him being one of the main characters who takes action moreso than a lot of other characters#his arc culminates in him taking action he's going after the ghost ship he's moving around the world the only issue is that one of the#actions he takes is running away from his problems literally n metaphorically (tho idk if facing the jolene problem is a good idea for him)

I keep thinking of how I want to taxonomize Siffrin and Loop bc it feels significant to me that Loop and Siffrin both have inherently diverged from the same Traveler Mold they came from. But because I am like a 7 year old I keep sagely nodding to myself going "ah yes... just like mega mewtwo"
#do u understand me. do u understand my vision#they're both siffrins they are just two pathways of how the same one guy develops through their experiences in timeloops#that are the same in basic structure but different in how they affected them#so like siffrin and loop are distinct people. but they're also just branches of preloops siffrin. much like mega mewtwo x and y are distinc#but they are also mewtwo#<-(said like this is somehow profound and not stupid)#liek do you guys get me... i think loop and siffrin are very much in sync#to the point where as seen in canon it's pretty easy for loop to divine what siffrin's thinking down to the phrasing#it's really striking how much loop talks and siffrin fullass does not reply but loop keeps on rollin just fine#but fundamentally they don't think the exact same way when it comes to bigger things#like how loop never fully accepts the idea of talking to the king as something reasonable to do#or how act 4 siffrin is in their own damn world while loop is left going. Stardust what the hell are you on (morose edition)#i think it's fun to find the gaps between them#i've always thought it would be fun. in a postcanon timeskip scenario#for loop to be. flatly worse at reading siffrin than they expect to be. because siffrin has been healing and trying to get better#while loop has been becoming steadily bitter as they tried and failed to cut the rope on their own attachments as some kind of last measure#of self defense against the pain of paving over their old relationship with the party with a new name new role new personality new stardust#to exist alongsides#likewise i think it's fun if siffrin overextends his new understanding of loop as being another self and the feeling of recognition for loo#is simultaneously comforting and Tremendously grating coming from Fucking Stardust#especially if siffrin just assumes shit wrong cuz for as much as hes the only guy who can relate 2 being trapped in a timeloop for months i#was not exactly the same now was it.#isat spoilers#Sorry this is a lot of thinking outloud on a post where i call loop and siffrin mega mewtwo x and y

I'm super hyped for this game because I think about Modern AUs a lot for Tamlin? It's not normally my genre, but he just gets the muse flowing!
I have a couple variations of MODERN AU that I like for Tamlin! I guess they're more related to scenarios/fic ideas than Tamlin-specific headcanons, but I wanted to share anyway because I'm excited about them.
AMERICANA / HIGH SCHOOL TAMLIN: Tamlin comes from a long line of guy's guys. You know, the typical American dream. His father and his brothers were some kind of sports stars throughout their schooling, then went on to work for their father's company (which was passed down from his father, a lot of nepotism). All Tamlin wants is to take music class, join the school band and maybe take a poetry class because he really loves the arts, but he's build like a Ford F-150 so obviously, he has to be on the football team. Enter the rich kids (the IC). Everyone wants to be them, they're super popular and very cliquey. The leader of the group is the very stylish and spoiled Rhysand. This, my friends, is how we get a classic 90's high school romcom where it turns out both of them are more than what they seem, and they find honest little moments between them hidden away from the prying eyes of their classmates, their fathers and their expectations. Very soft AU.
In most of the Modern AUs, I imagine there's a lot of Tamlin forced to follow in his father's/brothers' footsteps which is always something he isn't passionate about, usually business (sometimes shady, sometimes not).
MERCENARY x RETURNING STUDENT AU / BL-INSPIRED: I don't know if this counts, but it's a self-indulgent headcanon (and fic that I'm writing for myself). It's more urban fantasy, but set in modern times. It's heavily inspired by my favourite BL manhwas. Tamlin's family died in an accident while Tamlin was in university, and shortly after his mother fell ill and into a coma. His father was rich, but dealt in shadier/criminal business, so when he died along with his would-be heirs, his rivals basically tore his company apart and now Tamlin is in a lot of debt. He worked for years to pay back as much as he can, and manage his mother's bills, but now he's in a place where he can go back to school (so he can get better jobs). Moving back into a small college town, he accidentally ends up being roommates with a mercenary-in-disguise (Johan, it's Johan) who initially wants nothing to do with him. Little by little, Johan notices the way Tamlin is struggling to exist, so he helps him out and more and more until they fall in love. In this AU, Tamlin was originally pushed to take business in school because of his father, but he was very passionate about folklore, specifically Fairy folklore (he grew up listening to his mother's stories). When he returns as an adult student, he's in computer science (for the comedy) and sucks at it, which gives room for his mercenary boyfriend to help him. It's very cute. I also love Tamlin being older than all the other students and just not keeping up with the trends.
Anyway, those are my thoughts! Long story short, my kink is writing scenarios/fics where Tamlin is absolutely adored!!!
Welcome to our Tamlin Community game: Headcanons!
Every headcanons post, we'll drop a prompt asking you for your take on the prompt and our beloved Tamlin.
Fun fact: Did you know headcanons posts count as submissions during Tamlin Week? Headcanons are a great way to participate if you don't have time to create more time consuming submission and we love, love, love hearing all the different ways Tamlin is perceived!
This is a space to share your adoration and your creativity, so don't be shy -- reblog or chat with fellow Tamlin enjoyers in the notes!
What are your MODERN AU Tamlin headcanons?
