Reasons why you should read… Wings of Fire!!
Random LONG-ASS post but idc because this has been my favorite book series since 3rd grade and I still HEAVILY fixate on it - for anyone interested (after I explain ofc) These books are by Tui T. Sutherland and are available in audiobook, paperback, hardcover, and Kindle I think.
Reasons you might enjoy WoF and features of the books!
-creative character designs
-full plot with little to no holes and if there are any, they’re probably explained in one of the MANY side books available.
-well-written characters that can be powerful without being a “Mary Sue” and having their own personalities
-each book follows a different protagonist, sometimes with the protagonist switching up mid-book
-a prologue and epilogue in each book
-15 main books released so far with more coming!!
-STUNNING cover art
-the main characters are dragons!!
-Written like those fanfics where you read them and you forget you’re reading a fanfic but it’s still not quite written like an ‘official’ book, y’know?
-descriptive writing so you don’t have to imagine stuff in weird vague ways
-LOTS OF LGBTQIA+ rep! Including but not limited to: mlm rep, wlw rep, non-binary/non-conforming rep - and the best part about it? It’s casually brought up! It’s normalized! Not even the villains or shitty parents show an OUNCE of homophobia or transphobia!
-There are humans in these books! And POC rep!
-women in leading/strong roles :3
-different continents!
-different tribes of dragons each sharing similar traits depending on their habitat!! NOT JUST RANDOMIZED DRAGONS EVERYWHERE ALL MIXED TOGETHER WHERE YOU DONT EVEN KNOW WHO CAN DO WHAT!!
-Each book features a map of the continent it’s set on, a description of the dragons of each tribe living on that continent (including looks, powers, diet, affiliation in war depending on the book, and current Queen) and a page for the prophecy the book fixates around (different for each arc)
-Three arcs, each solving a different conflict but STILL IN THE SAME PLOT!!
-creepy mind-control stuff!
-well-written villains
-lines that have made me CACKLE out loud multiple times
-TONS OF SIDE BOOKS WITH EXTRA LORE/INFO IN THEM!!
-and so much more! Read them for yourself to find out!!
ALL THE BOOKS IN ORDER PLUS THE NAME, SPECIES AND A PICTURE OF THE PROTAGONIST IN PARENTHESES:
THE DRAGONETS OF DESTINY ARC: 1) The Dragonet Prophecy (Clay of the Mudwings)

2) The Lost Heir (Tsunami of the Seawings)

3) The Hidden Kingdom (Glory of the Rainwings)

4) The Dark Secret (Starflight of the Nightwings)

5) The Brightest Night (Sunny of the Sandwings/Nightwings)

THE JADE MOUNTAIN ARC: 6) Moon Rising (Moonwatcher of the Nightwings)

7) Winter Turning (Winter of the Icewings)

8) Escaping Peril (Peril ((the one in front)) of the Skywings)

9) Talons of Power (Turtle ((the green one)) of the Seawings)

10) Darkness of Dragons (Qibli of the Sandwings) (MY FAV CHARACTER YIPPEE)

THE PANTALA ARC: 11) The Lost Continent (Blue of the Silkwings)

12) The Hive Queen (Cricket of the Hivewings)

13) The Poison Jungle (Sundew of the Leafwings) (MY FAV BOOK YIPPEE)

THE RETURN ARC (not sure if that’s actually what it’s called but oh well): 14) The Dangerous Gift (Snowfall ((the one on the right)) of the Icewings)

15) The Flames of Hope (Luna ((the obvious-looking one)) of the Silkwings)

THERE ARE ALSO GRAPHIC NOVELS UP TO BOOK 7 SO FAR AND SIDE BOOKS LISTED HERE: Legends: Darkstalker
Legends: Dragon Slayer
A Guide to the Dragon World
The Winglets Quartet
There might be more but there are also a coloring book plus an activity/storymaking book and as far as I know the fandom is pretty non-toxic and full of artists and cosplayers!! So have funnnn :33
ALSO SEND ME ASKS IF THERES ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANNA KNOW ABT IT, I’D BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO ANSWER THEM (sorry if Tumblr fucks up the image quality)

I just wanna say. I love that everyone commits to the Explorers' disguise names. Even Liko, who has no reason to, is like "ok you're annoying but I'm not gonna deadname you... Sandwich."
#pokémon#pokemon horizons#pokemon: horizons#honestly jokes aside gen 9 and horizons are surprisingly lgbt-positive#Penny is canonically wlw#you can also argue a bisexual headcanon for both Nemona and Arven. probably Kieran as well#Orla is DEFINITELY a girls' girl also. if the episode with the pokeball maker is any indication#and the amount of likodot mutual blushing is ridiculous lmao#but i think since gen 5 they've been pretty okay with representation#Japan is notoriously conservative about both race and gender/sexuality#so it's so cool that we got many poc as soon as they started basing regions off other countries#in the grand scheme of things it didn't feel like much at first but pokemon is one of the few jp franchises actively giving casual rep#thank you mr. game freak. more please#babbles

Asexuality is often called The Invisible Orientation. You don’t learn about it in school, you don’t hear “ace” on television. So, it’s kinda hard to be ace in a society so steeped in sex that no one knows you exist. Too many young people grow up believing that their lack of sexual desire means they are broken – so writer Molly Muldoon and cartoonist Will Hernandez, both in the ace community, are here to shed light on society’s misconceptions of asexuality and what being ace is really like.
This book is for anyone who wants to learn about asexuality, and for Ace people themselves, to validate their experiences. Asexuality is a real identity and it’s time the world recognizes it. Here’s to being invisible no more!

honestly hate the trend the past 10 years or whatever of books being advertised by their tropes or whatever rather than like, what the story actually is, or even just a summary. Also hate when authors throw lgbt, poc, etc in for "representation". U know u can put us in books just because we exist right? And not to make a statement? We can be in there just bc we exist in real life it doesn't need to be some huge thing for "ally points" ffs
#I hate the whole OMGGG THIS BOOK HAS SUCH GOOD REP#ok can we have lgbt and poc characters that just exist to exist#and not to be a (usually stereotypical portrayal or caricature) of quote representation#mine#all my stories are lgbt and most of my ocs are poc#it just gets tedious trying to find books to read sometimes....#the way they're advertised and marketed or whatever

Shows that got cancelled despite being good, popular, and having tonnes of potential to go on to become classics:
Kaos - 1 season - Netflix - Ends with set up for a following season
Shadow and Bone - 2 seasons - Netflix - Season 3 was already mostly written when cancelled
My Lady Jane - 1 season - Amazon Prime - Story not resolved, set up for a second season (in fact the show shows you what's supposed to happen in the second season)
Half-Bad: The Bastard Child and the Devil Himself - 1 Season - Netflix - Main story wrapped up but easily open enough for a second series exploring the world
Star Wars: The Acolyte - 1 season - Disney Plus - First series feels mostly like set up for a second series we'll now never get
Dead Boy Detectives - 1 season - Netflix - Set up for a second series with a minor cliff hanger and an open continuation for the characters
Lockwood and Co - 1 season - Netflix - Potential for a second season
I Am Not Okay With This - 1 season - Netflix - Story not properly resolved, needed a second season
National Treasure: Edge of History - 1 season - Disney Plus - Story concluded, but lots of potential for a second season
Gentleman Jack - 2 Seasons - HBO Max/BBC - So much more potential, it had so much real life basis it could have followed
Our Flag Means Death - 2 Seasons - HBO Max - I actually liked the ending we got, but I feel like the show had more potential, particularly with the crew
First Kill - 1 season - Netflix - (Not one I watched, it was on my tbw but it got cancelled and I didn't see the point)
Grease: Rise of The Pink Ladies - 1 season - Disney Plus - So much more potential And Insult to injury they've all but wiped it from the platform
A running theme for these shows are that they have a pretty high amount of LGBT rep, with a lot of these shows centering on queer characters and stories, as well as representation for POC. There are also a lot of fantasy/supernatural shows.
I just find it fascinating that there seems to be a lot of similarities between most of these shows.

What I don't get is why news outlets and Netflix are trying to convince us that arcane was expensive to make. 250 million usd for both seasons they said, and obviously that's a lot of money, but they make the mistake of comparing it to big budget movies like Tangled. So you're telling me that I got an animated masterpiece that combines multiple different art styles fantastic voice acting and creative and passionate writing, that's 6-7 hours LONGER than major animated movies, and its the same fucking price?? And you're expecting me to agree with the corporations outlook, that it's too expensive? Yes, tangled is considered one of the most expensive animated movies, but arcane is like FOUR Tangleds. Many other 3D animated movies fall within the 160 million mark, but again, they're hours shorter than arcane was. I think the prices are comparable. I believe in saw someone (on reddit maybe?) divide the cost down to minutes of screen time for each show or movie and it becomes really obvious. I'm also pretty sure that many of these movie budgets do not include marketing in their overall expenses; arcane does.
This isnt even bringing live action tv shows into the equation; i dont think arcane even touches like the top thirty of those. And yet it's framed as such an expense!! Bitch its an incredibly successful tv show!! Ik Netflix is cheap as shit and has its own reputation to grapple with, but is the disdain for animation so much? Is it disdain for female lead action, for poc representation, for LGBT rep on screen? For the animation medium as a whole? I know the answer of course. But it's still very upsetting to acknowledge and think about.
Separately, arcane is absolutely crushing it. Ik act three is going to knock it out of the ballpark. Keep crushing corporate execs expectations please.
#if anyone knows a better reason i would like to hear it!#i like to believe the best about things#it lowkey might just be netflixes shitty taste in releasing tv shows and movies#but this one feels personal with beloved ans successful arcane is#arcane is just not an expensive tv show all things considered but thats the problem isnt it?? theyre only comparing it to animated costs#because they dont see animated as a real genre they can use for success#although COUNTLESS shows have proven otherwise. i dont get it#im glad arcane (and on the same note spiderverse) are paving the way for adult animated media thats not like fucking family guy#that has a beautiful plot and meaningful characters#obv theres anime but im talking about in the western sphere of things#love death and robots is also a very good example#arcane#budget#movies#caitvi#jayvik#arcane s2#my posts#text post

There will always be bad representation. Movies and film and tv and media will always have rep that is lacking in some way and that is a good thing. When you have an increasing sample size the probability of getting shit rep is higher and that is fine because we are getting MORE.
This one lesbian character’s experience doesn’t mirror your own? That is fine, it reflect’s someone else’s. This one POC character in a US setting doesn’t feel the effects of racism as strongly as you have? There are people out there who have not, and the story is not about racism.
Wanting characters that are relatable to you are absolutely necessary and normal to want. I also have issues with monotonic representation (think overly sexualized bisexual character, savant genius autistic boy, anti slavery/oppression black films, queer/black trauma porn, etc etc) and I want to get a full body of representation, a rainbow of experiences.
Not everything has to be perfect to be good rep, or rep at all. The potentiality of rep being bad should not be a deterrent for creators to put out their characters. This is how you get no rep - when people are too scared to write about anyone other than themselves because they don’t want to be crucified for “bad representation”.
Characters and stories should no longer be responsible for carrying the weight of their entire identity’s representation on their back. We have grown past having 1 non-romantic female lead in a superhero movie, 1 queer character in daytime television, 1 black character in every major film. Captain Marvel shouldn’t be determining if we have another female-led marvel film, miles morales isn’t the measure of whether or not we can have a black superhero, Crowley and Aziraphale aren’t supposed to mimic the experience of every gay American couple — these are characters and shouldn’t have to tackle everything these communities has to tackle.
Characters with different identities should be allowed to be weird and funky and fun and sad and angry and evil without it having to deal with how it represents its community. I’m not just talking about your run of the mill racism and anti-rep tirade, but those in the community that relentlessly criticise every minority character for living up to some unattainable standard.
How can we expect more from media when we do not allow it to exist on its own?
So, just curious how many writers and creators will have to be forcibly outed by relentless harassment before we acknowledge that "This queer characters was written by a cishet person and that's why they're bad" is not good criticism.
#people need to understand#that being bad at something is the first step at being good at something#and this is true for representation as well#lgbt representation#representation#POC rep

STORY INTRO:
FAERIE'S DAWN (interact with this post to join the taglist)

Following the Shattering of Reality, the world was plunged into what came to be known as the Faewildes: an ever-changing world suffused with magic and danger. Humanity crumbled under the weight of the new reality while fae—and the archfae above them—emerged to rule over the new world. Humans couldn't compete against the fae's sheer magical prowess, and soon built strongholds in territories with weak magical presence to stand against them. Now, so many generations later, humanity has finally learned of faekind's weakness: metal, which weakens fae and blocks their magic. A war is breaking out between humanity and fae, with gods each picking sides in the conflict. Between faeries Nova, Cloud, and Sky, and the human settlement Eve and Asa protect... who will win?
(Psst... to fans of the Existential of Magic—aka “Ailwyn, God of the Faewildes”—this story has them as a major player! You'll see a lot of them in here! Your guys' overwhelming love for them motivated me to write this story lmao)
THEME SONG:
He looked me in the eyes, and without a word He saw right through my soul And with an evil little grin, and a stench of sin He delivered me a message that I'll never forget Put your hands up, this is your last chance So boy, prepare to die Get ready to meet your maker Before I put one right between your eyes Get ready (get ready) For your resignation Get ready (get ready) For your salvation 'Cause when you wake up, you'll realize Who even cares if you're dead If you were never alive
MAIN CHARACTERS:
✦ Eve Primavera ✦ Asa Primavera ✦ Nova “Me” Fae ✦ Scamall “Cloud” Fae ✦ Spéir “Sky” Fae

Dear American leftist.
So you want to make the world better. Please here me out.
You recognize that your parties are ultimately just capitalist racists/sexists/lgbt-phobes and capitalist collaborators/copagandists/war criminals. You want to tear this system to the ground (understandably), just have a revolution and build a new one, a democratic-socialist utopia.
That's not gonna happen yet.
Most Americans want to make the world better. But they will not agree with you on the means or even the end goal.
And you *can't have a revolution* without widespread support (or at least most people not being outright hostile to your end goal - the dirty word socialism). Your current representative system is going to remain for some time still. Your president will have power and they will have the largest and most dangerous power over minorities and marginalized people.
It is important who gets to wield this power.
It is important who gets to appoint the next Supreme Court justices. Even if Democrats don't really care about abortion rights and are just using it as a talking point - their appontees consistently rule in favor of women. This applies equally to race and LGBT issues, and to the legislative and executive branches.
On Palestine and lesser evils
I feel like the most important or one of the most important reasons for leftists who do not vote is the situation in Gaza and independence for Palestine and the lack of action on part of the Dems.
I will not actually talk policy here because even if you think both will do equally bad things for Palestine, you just cannot reason that this means both parties are equal or equally bad. Let me draw you a table (tumblr doesn't have tables?):
How the fuck is there no lesser evil here?
If you do not vote for Dems for the sake of your conscience, you are either a coward who is too immature to make hard decisions or you plain *do not care* for LGBT people, women, PoC, or immigrants.
(Footnote: Dems wont solve your existing racism problems. But people will suffer due to government inaction rather than government WANTING them to suffer and actively using its resources to create more suffering)
You're the guy in the trolley problem NOT pulling the lever to save four lives. Sure, it would be PREFERRABLE if there were no PEOPLE TIED TO THE TRACKS. But they are right now and the state of being tied to a track is called marginalization.
Voting third party does not help.
Your system is rigged against you to allow only two parties.
See this video for explanation.
youtube
By not voting, or voting third party, you are saving no one (except your own conscience, selfishly). Vote and then do some more actually useful stuff.
How the fuck does voting impact your ability to organize politically in other ways? Do you think low voter turnout will somehow convince both Reps and Dems that actually, they're both illegitimate and willing to give way to a new system now? Obviously not?!
So you want to make the world better. This is not what US elections are for. They are for slowing down the world getting worse. Thanks for reading all of that. Sincerely, and in a deep worry tumblr user evillinuxuser (Not an American)

There were two secrets in Varenx House, and Alizhan was one of them.
Alizhan can’t see faces, but she can read minds. Her mysterious ability leaves her unable to touch or be touched without excruciating pain. Rescued from abandonment and raised by the wealthy and beautiful Iriyat ha-Varensi, Alizhan has grown up in isolation, using her gift to steal secrets from Iriyat’s rivals, the ruling class of Laalvur. But Iriyat keeps secrets of her own.
When Alizhan discovers that she isn’t the only one of her kind, and that a deadly plot threatens everyone like her, there’s only one person she can trust.
Ev liked having a secret. None of the other girls in the village had a thief-friend.
Evreyet Umarsad—“Ev” to her parents and her one friend—longs to be the kind of hero she reads about in books. But the rest of the world feels impossibly far away from her life on a farm outside Laalvur. Ev will never lay eyes on the underground city of Adappyr, the stars of the Nightward Coast, or the venomous medusas that glow in the dark depths of the sea.
At least on her weekly trip to the market, Ev gets to see her thief—the strange young woman who slips by her cart and playfully steals a handful of thornfruit. When the thief needs help, Ev doesn’t hesitate. Together, they uncover a conspiracy that draws them all over Laalvur and beyond.

hey on the topic of everyone always forgetting about queer poc can we talk more about craig of the creek please. i know we all love lgbt+ kids cartoons but theres not a lot of kids cartoons with good queer rep, good storytelling, AND good poc rep all at once. cotc has something for literally everyone and its representation is objectively better than spop and toh, and yet i see nearly no one talking about it. i think this pride month we should make this show more popular please and thank you
also don't be turned away from the fact that it's mainly about younger kids; the style of writing makes it so theyre written incredibly realistically and still relatable to older people. its an "unreliable narrator" sort of vibe too
