Saw the teaser for Monster Con and honestly? While it looks cool, I feel like it'll just be more of the same. Nothing particularly wrong with that, but it's starting to get repetitive for me.
Still, the game looks very interesting, and it's always great to have more Zoe. More Zoe is always good.

"how can m/f ships be good-" first of all through the power of bisexuality anything is possible so write that down. second of all if we start othering ships based on gender and nothing else we're no better than the opposition. third of all you need to watch more addams family

I understand that tall men are our POV characters, but surely being like a foot taller than everyone around them would have some occasional consequences

So...
I decided to watch Jesse Cox's playthrough of the End of the Road update and I can summarize my feelings with one word. Fuck.
More thoughts under the cut. (CONTAINS SPOILERS)
Before I say what I think, I'd like to say that I'm glad I saw his video instead of playing it myself because lemme tell you... some of the events esp. the cave and motel were LEGIT unnerving and it was hard enough to watch even with commentary. I don't wanna know what it's like to actually experience it alone. Beautiful Glitch could make a full-on horror game if they wanted.
Now, for the main event.
I'm just... gobsmacked. I have never seen a piece of media that left me so utterly speechless. This is probably one of the best meta stories I've seen yet. I'm usually tired of meta and forth-wall stuff in modern media, but man they pulled it off here so well.
The events that reference old lore and stuff from the previous games, as well as locations like the pillars being used to explore the themes of narrative and fictional characters was so brilliantly done and the call-backs are what I consider it the best way to deliver fanservice.
And the ending. Holy shit the ending.
The goodbye, the final images and credits song just shook me to my core. The ending completely ties the entire playthrough together to culminate into something so fucking effective.
I'm feeling blue now, because now whenever I'll see Polly when I play Roadtrip or see her in future or previous games, a part of me will always know that that version of her will never be the TRUE her.
It's sad, but also kinda beautiful in a way. Because the real Polly's now out here... building her own pillars. And she, along with every character in this franchise will still be 'alive' no matter what as long as we keep 'em in our hearts.
End of the Road is a fucking superb ending. Kudos to Jesse, Beautiful Glitch and everyone else involved for creating and being part of something so amazing.
Until then, see you all on the other side.

a while ago I read this sci-fi short story from the 50s where a guy is kidnapped and interrogated by aliens using a very sophisticated lie detector, but he realizes that the lie detector works off technical truth, and with some careful phrasing and misdirection, he manages to make them believe that humans are a race of immortal, overpowered, omniscient telepathic beings. and it works.
my favorite part is when he tells them that humans are "capable of transportation without the aid of spaceships or any vehicles, just by using mental power to control physical matter". it's true, we can. it's called walking.

I know what you're all definitely thinking. What if everyone from Gravity Falls was a chair. Well, I was bored enough at 3am to think about that too

not even JRR Tolkien, who famously developed the concept of the Secondary World and firmly believed that no trace of the Real World should be evoked in the fictional world, was able to remove potatoes from his literature. this is a man who developed whole languages and mythologies for his literary world, who justified its existence in English as a translation* simply because he was so miffed he couldn't get away with making the story fully alien to the real world. and not even he, in extremis, was so cruel as to deny his characters the heavenly potato. could not even conceive a universe devoid of the potato. such is its impact. everyone please take a moment to say thank you to South Americans for developing and cultivating one of earth's finest vegetables. the potato IS all that. literally world-changing food. bless.
