I was a bit unsure of what to write as my first post. However, since this is my first post, I thought I could also write about my first visit to the UN conference and publish my first self-produced short movie/travel video. This video shows the highlights of my visit to the UN conference as a Norwegian delegate, and I represented the Norwegian Association for Humane Drug Policy (the Norwegian name: Foreningen for Human Narkotikapolitikk (FHN)) FHN is a Norwegian drug user’s organization and the Leading Organization in Norway for a Drug Policy Reform. The Norwegian Association for Humane Drug Policy was Est. in 1996 & we are proud to be the leading user organization in Norway. In 2017, United Nationsawarded us (FHN) as the only user organization from Norway consultative status at ECOSOC, resulting in the UN inviting FHN to participant as observers to the Sixty-first session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND). The CND was held at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) in Austria 12 -16 March 2018. It was interesting and inspiring to see how 1100 to 1300 delegates from Member States (Government’s), UN entities, Social Society, international organizations and Non-Governmental (NGO) participated and collaborate to discuss the global crime, drug, social, health issues. Especially when one has to protect human rights in the same process as you have to confronting common challenges, manage shared responsibilities and exercise collective action. That can be difficult when everything get challenge by a delegate/government and you have to be diplomatic, and at the same time have to defend your country’s position. Injustice doesn’t live forever. However, it takes constant work, & it takes courage. Together everyone achieves more & by working together, we can make a positive difference. My national leader and friend Arild Knutsen is for me an inspirator and I wish to express my gratitude to him for his constant fight for drug user’s rights, promoting drug policy reform, care & harm reduction services. Also for his fight for ending stigma and working for human rights. In particular, I have to thank Arild Knutsen for believing in me before I did, and for believing and giving me the opportunity to become a leader in FHN Hordaland and for this UN trip. PS: For his efforts, Arild Knutsen has received a number of prizes, among he was awarded Amnesty International Prize Norway in 2014, appointed Citizen of the year in Oslo, Norway in 2009, Name of the year in Oslo 2010, and The Tolerance Prize in 2010. I tradisjonens tro ble det avholdt «Åpen dag» ved Hjellestad i regi av @bergensklinikkene, der temaet var «Pårørende i tykt og tynt». Pasienter, pårørende, og representanter fra ulike ettervernstilbud ble invitert til å få med seg en konsert, foredrag, en god lunsj og til slutt stands hvor de ulike ettervernstilbudene kunne gi mer informasjon. The #dignity of many #people with #drugs or #mentalhealth conditions is not #respected. We need to provide better #support and #care for people with mental health conditions, and we all have a responsible to #promote the rights and dignity of people with drugs and mental health conditions. “So it’s a double-edged sword when you’ve got mental health problems.
