So last night we went to the @mitre10nz Girls Night. It was a mother's day event and we are not moms. At least, that is how the world see's us. We don't have any earthly kids so we don't fall under that category. Still, we decided to go there and had the time of our lives. 🍉 Today I, Natasha, want to explain why Jess is a mum. She mothers my heart. She has been there for me through a few miscarriages and seen me cry. She has helped me up at times when she didn't even realise. So I'm dedicating this post to "Mama Jess". No, she doesn't have a baby. This is not her choice but in my eyes she is a mum. She has been a mum to me in ways that I can't even explain. She wants this so bad and deserves it more than anyone I know, and so I declare her "Mama Jess". With NZ mother's Day coming up on Sunday we will both probably lock ourselves away for the day. It's a symptom of infertility. There's many symptoms and we will touch on this as we go on. But right now, we are focusing on becoming mom's rather than worrying about not being a mom. 🍷 Today I am raising my glass to all mom's out there. Mom's with kids and mom's without kids but most importantly, I am raising my glass to Jess for being such an amazing mum figure in my life! Being on a baby making journey can be so daunting. One thing we have come to realize is that we are not alone. Sometimes we feel like our world is crashing down, but in reality it is a struggle in our mind. Sometimes all we need is a bit of positivity and a goal to work towards. No, we are not in control! Kia ora, we’re Hannah and Joe and we’ve been trying to conceive (TTC) for three and a half years. After two years of trying the old-fashioned way, we unfortunately found out that we would need IVF. 🍍 In the last 18 months we’ve had 3 rounds of IVF, 5 embryos transferred and 2 miscarriages. 🍍 Infertility has made us put our lives on hold, kicked our arses and left us $60k lighter but it has also made us stronger, and so appreciative of just how lucky we are to have each other, a clear diagnosis, supportive whānau, friends and work environments and sufficient savings. 🍍 No matter what your ‘journey’ (said in a Californian accent), infertility is undoubtably an absolute rollercoaster. It tests and challenges you to the max, leaving you crying in the toilets at work/eating peanut butter from the jar wondering what the hell happened to that fun person/couple you used to be. 🍍 Infertility can be a very dark time, so we set up an Instagram account @ttc_tales where we share funny stories from the TTC and infertility community. Hopefully by sharing these amusing and often ridiculous anecdotes, we can bring some light to those who need a laugh more than most.
