May 2018 Featured Creator
May 2018 Featured Creator
What is a Featured Creator?
Write Way Studio’s “Featured Creator” segment is my way of showing appreciation for the creators of the world.  Creative outlets are limitless because there is no end to human imagination.  Every month shows the succeeding featured creator.  If you would like to be a part of this collaborative project, contact me at [email protected]!
My eighth guest creator is the lady behind Midnight Poppy Land, Lilydusk!
Introduction
Known on the Internet by her username Lilydusk, the name was a nickname at some point!  She was born in the eighties.  She works a full-time job in a busy financial district, stuck to a desk.  Her comic is actually made on the side, mostly nights and weekends!  She earned an art-focused education while in college.
What Sparked the Creator Passion?
How It All Started
Her inspiration came early in life, with a love of picture books.  Later, her interest involved manga in grade school!  Sailor Moon, Fushigi Yuugi, and Inuyasha are only a few of the Japanese comic books that inspired her to create comics of her own.  In terms of her artistic beginning, she began drawing once she used a pencil and it just progressed from that tiny start.
She always feels an inherent motivation to create something from scratch.  Naturally, this need translated into the creation of art.  Characters are her favorite subject to create, especially if they are good looking.  So, in relation to her abundance of ideas floating about in her mind, she required an outlet to release them into the world.  She feels massive fulfillment from being able to share her stories with people.
Other inspirations of hers originated from a multitude of romance novels, in both English and Taiwanese, and other manga.  She also watched Korean romance dramas.  With these influences, she hopes to create a comic that reads like a romantic novel but does not revolve around the lovey-dovey atmosphere.  She wants it to have an actual storyline with plot twists and drama.  She is particularly fond of the relationship between the two protagonists of the YA series Penryn and The End of Days because of how their love story is woven in between the main plot.
All about Midnight Poppy Land
With her current comic, Lilydusk mentioned how “the idea first came about in my early twenties.  The character Tora came first and he was inspired by this guy I met, whose appearance and mannerisms intrigued me very much.  Tora’s image (long black hair, baseball hat, and earrings) and street clothes are based on what this guy was wearing back then.”  Later, the story developed to better accommodate Tora, with the character Poppy as a counterpart to him that represented the complete opposite of him.
To have a basic rundown of the story, look below for the summary!
Poppy is a shy book editor who makes a grisly discovery in the countryside and is plunged into a world of danger. Along the way, she falls in love with the gentle son of a mafia lord but finds her budding romance viciously crushed by Tora, his dangerous and unpredictable bodyguard - who can't seem to leave her alone or keep his hands off her.
Additional information:  Adult Romance; Updates twice a month; Contains mature themes, violence, and coarse language
Her simple but profound message behind the story?  Fate works in strange ways and connects the most unlikely of people at the most unexpected of times when they least expect it.  Midnight Poppy Land is an urban gangster love story with dark and gritty undertones, just like life.  There are funny bits, but Lilydusk suspects that may be because she is a goofy person by nature and it leaks into the story somehow.
It may also be categorized as a dangerous, tantalizing romance with a sweet and pure core, encompassing a pure-hearted girl and a bad boy who is attracted to each other in spite (or maybe because) of their differences.  The first impression came from the concept of the studious girl-next-door next to a tough looking guy with crow-black hair and wild eyes.
Future Projects
There is currently a project floating around (besides Midnight Poppy Land, of course!).  Lilydusk is also working on a paranormal fantasy story, even if it is still in the drafting stage.  It is currently in more of the form of a novel but she wants to turn it into a comic, cautiously named “Otherworldly.”
Her summary (at the moment) is provided below:
Leilani is a lazy, delinquent Warrior Goddess who has managed to 'go mortal', and remain hidden from the supernatural world for centuries. But when the weight of saving the world falls on her shoulders, she is forced to seek the help of a fearsome but drop-dead gorgeous Demon God held in captivity...only to discover a deadly attraction between the both of them.
As I hope you realize, readers, nothing is set in stone during the drafting stage.  So, keep up with Lilydusk’s work to watch out for more!

Last Tidbits
To conclude the wonderful May 2018 Featured Creator, here are a few side-notes on the artist!  She is a bit OCD when it comes to her comic.  The conditions have to be exactly right to create the perfect atmosphere for her, from the table being in perfect order, the house cleaned up, and showering every single time before getting started on the comic.
She is also an introvert and loves nothing more than staying home working on her comic!  She is the biggest klutz and may be the most dangerous thing to ever step foot in a kitchen.
Yet, she loves to create websites just for the hell of it!  She loves cats and most animals (excluding insects) and being one with nature.  However, she cannot actually live in nature for long because she is a city dweller at heart.  She has also been practicing meditation on a regular basis, or generally as much as she can, for four years as of now.  She mentioned how “it helps to regulate my emotions and keeps me calm and at peace.”

To Lilydusk,
I hope you had as much fun as I did working on this together!  I know that it was hard to consistently connect for the collaboration, with your busy schedule and Midnight Poppy Land’s massive Q & A segment along with my finals rearing its demonic face at the same time.
But we still made it happen!
I appreciate this opportunity you gave me and hope we can work together again sometime!  I love how dedicated you are to the intricate story of Midnight Poppy Land, not fan service.  Until then, I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors!
Sincerely,
Jasmine Love

April 2018 Featured Creator
What is a Featured Creator?
Write Way Studio’s “Featured Creator” segment is my way of showing appreciation for the creators of the world.  Creative outlets are limitless, because there is no end to human imagination.  Every month shows the succeeding featured creator.  If you would like to be a part of this collaborative project, contact me at [email protected] or go to Write Way Studio's Contact Page!
My seventh guest creator is Alexandra, the web-comic artist behind Wind Rose and Bloody Rose!
Introduction
First, it is time for a long-awaited introduction of the one and only Alexandra!  She is better known online by her nickname-turned-username Sfera.  To start, she is twenty-two years old with her birthday on June fifth.  She is under the sign of the Gemini and has noticed that she can never do just one thing at a time.
She is at this time a computer animation student at Ringling College of art and design.  Interestingly, her educational background did not start with Ringling; it actually began at her hometown’s university and their animation department where she spent two years’ worth of study.  Once she realized their animation education was not advanced enough, she decided to apply to American schools.  She needed to further develop her portfolio, so she studied for a year in Vancouver on intense Concept Art for Animation program to improve her skills.  Only after Vancouver did she gain acceptance into Ringling College and complete her freshman year.
She works on her stories, such as Wind Rose and Bloody Hood, whenever she gets a free moment.  Future projects are always in development!
What Sparked the Creator Passion?
As she contemplated this question, Sfera noted how she always liked to create stories.  She even recalled her childhood, with how she played with her toys by giving them a story of some kind.  After watching Disney’s animated feature Bambi, she remembers desperately wishing there was a sequel.  Her desire increased to such extremes that she created deer out of Plasticine (a material similar to clay) and played a game called Bambi 2.
Not much has changed as she got older.  She is still creating stories.  The only difference is that her process is more advanced than ever before.
Alexandra’s Creation:  Wind Rose
How It All Started
As a child, her parents wanted to travel and brought her along.  Since they were from the Northern part of the world, her parents liked to the Southern parts.  She has slept in jungles as well as visited cities, such as Katmandu in Nepal, their contrasting beauty blowing her childish mind away.  A glimmer of imagination made her wonder that if the South were a person, that she would be loud, fun, colorful, cheerful and bright versus the North, who would be melancholic, quiet and calm.  The idea of humanization and personification has always appealed to her; the fascination to take something non-human and imagine it in a human body.
Many influences inspired this work.  She was impressed with Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet when she first read the play.  The idea of forbidden love persisted.
All about Wind Rose
Wind Rose is a story about love and adventures, the main characters being a humanized North and South.  North and South will eventually fall in love, but it will take time due to their contrasting personalities.  That is only the first part of the romance.  After they finally admit they love each other, new adventures with other individuals like West, East, Equator, and Poles will commence, initiating the second half of the tale.
Wind Rose is her first comic and has become her greatest teacher.  As such, the work is not meant to be professional but meant to give insight for future works.  At first, she didn’t know what she was doing or what style to use.  She learned very quickly that she hated lines and focused on her painting and rendering skills.  It has taught (and is still teaching) her how to paint, how to create interactive 360 panoramic pictures, and even how to create your own font.
She works on Wind Rose every day and learns something new every day because of it.
Future Projects
Right now, she began Chapter 2 of her web-comic Bloody Hood, where she retells Red Riding Hood and other well-known fairytales.  The story introduces a small city near the woods, where an unusual castle houses a peculiar family.  Each member wears a distinctive red hat.  The protagonist, Mister Wolf, observes the family closely, since they can become a great danger to the city.  She plans to publish all of Chapter 2 during the summer.  Then, we will be presented with every family member.
"The idea of humanization and personification has always appealed to her; the fascination to take something non-human and imagine it in a human body."  -- Sfera
She has many ideas for the future.  As a sneak peek, she does not want to create only web-comics.  The next project requires her to learn how to code.
Where to Find You? Support You?
Sfera is available on most social media platforms.  For more details, look below!

Last Tidbits
There is not much to report for the weirdness department.  The only item that might qualify is Sfera’s bowler hat.  She wears it all the time, to the point that it feels like part of her brain has become one with the hat.  Thus, the inspiration comes forth.

To Alexandra,
I know this collaboration has not been the smoothest, due to personal and technological obstacles on my part.  I really appreciate you working with me on my Featured Creator segment and remaining patient with me.  I know that the silence was agonizing (and that’s putting it mildly!)
I can’t wait to see more of North and South blossoming into their tale.  I also wait in anticipation for Bloody Hood’s official debut!  I wish only the best for you with school and your art!
Sincerely,
Jasmine Love

March 2018 Featured Creator
What is a Featured Creator?
Write Way Studio’s “Featured Creator” segment is my way of showing appreciation for the creators of the world.  Creative outlets are limitless, because there is no end to human imagination.  Every month shows the succeeding featured creator.  If you would like to be a part of this collaborative project, contact me at [email protected]!
Introduction
Now, allow me to introduce you to him, the one and only The Kao.  He is better known online by his brand and business under the same title.  Under the mark of the lion, Leo, his birth-date falls on July 31st.
He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree of Fine Arts for Illustration of Columbia College, Chicago.  That was back in 2015, a crazy three years ago.  He currently creates illustrations and comics for a living.
What Sparked the Creator Passion?
When asked this particular question, The Kao mentioned how “[he] always had a passion for drawing since childhood.”  Thanks to the two franchises Pokemon and Toy Story, his (sort of) first comic was born:  “[he had drawn] in elementary school about [his] Pokemon plush and [the two of them] having adventures together.”
Then came the hard part of adulating:  his future career.  As he mentioned from his contemplation, “The difficult part was trying to find which artistic industry I wanted to go into and/or if I wanted to work for myself . . . [since] many options for an aspiring artist who loves creating characters and making stories [exist].”  He listed storyboarding, visual development, comics and children books, all of which are just a few avenues he can explore.  But even he admitted that there is only so much you can do for a career.
Eventually, he returned to his first comic book he ever made.  He decided to focus on comics (for now).
The Kao’s Creation:  Mondo Mango
How It All Began
Believe it or not, Mondo Mango started as a hobby!  He had only been illustrating for class assignments and work.  The series had been heavily influenced by the encouragement of friends and family.  He always wanted to create a full-length manga, but his writing skills made him reluctant to start.  Eventually, Mondo Mango came to be, a way to still make a comic strip with less perfectionist tendencies and more relaxation.  The Kao acknowledged how “the series is a huge part of my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I thank my family, friends, and mentors that pushed me to continue making the series when I had my doubts.”
All about Mondo Mango
Mondo Mango is a slice-of-life story focused essentially on The Kao himself.  Its main content zeroes in on the brighter aspects of his life as he highlights enjoying and appreciating the little things that go unnoticed.  Although it may be mundane in subject matter at first glance, he manages to shine a funny and relatable light on everything as he hopes to bring joy to his audience.
His most recent work is pushing him towards fiction when he introduced the series’ new mascot, GoGo, the adorable mango dragon that continues to bring a positive outlook on life.
For the most part, his content is suitable for children.  There are, however, sexuality explanations that are LGBT-friendly as well as life and school struggles.  So his work also appeals to teens and young adults.  The series is on the inter-webs via Tapas, Line Web Toons, and/or Instagram.
Future Projects
If you are interested in The Kao’s work, I suggest supporting his Kickstarter!  There, a new Mondo Mango book called The Freckled Mango: A Mondo Mango Collection is now available!  The book contains 130 pages of more than one hundred Mondo Mango strips, exclusives, manga specials and art tutorials.  The Kickstarter is up now, so go check it out!
There is also the Tapas Incubator program with Tapas Media.  The Kao was recently accepted into the program, which had been an open call for creators to work with Tapas Media for creating original content.  In short, he is currently working on a new comic that will be released later this year!  So be on the lookout!

To The Kao,
Thank you very much for accepting my request to work on this!  I know that you are super busy, especially with a special dragon and book of yours coming out, so I appreciate every bit of effort you’ve put into this collaboration.  I love your art style, sense of humor and various messages that you provide in your comic.  I wait in anticipation for what else you will create in the future.
Honestly, I was shell-shocked that you actually responded to my request, let alone accepted.  You may not realize it, but you have helped me to see that I can do more than I thought previously possible with my writing.
I wish only the best for you, GoGo and CK in all your future endeavors!
Sincerely,
Jasmine Love

February 2018 Featured Creator
What is a Featured Creator?
Write Way Studio’s segment “Featured Creator” is our way of showing appreciation to the creators of the world.  Creative outlets are unbounded because there is no end to human imagination.  Every month shows the succeeding featured creator.  If you would like to be a part of this collaborative project, contact me right away at [email protected] !
The fifth guest creator to show is Nathanael J. Beaulieu, a local Louisianan poet, film and visual artist!
Introduction
First, let me officially present you to him!  Nathanael goes by the username Nathanaelopolis on social media or just Nate. His birthday is December 24 and he is currently twenty-one years old, bordering the astrological signs Capricorn and Sagittarius. He described himself as “fiery, energetic [while also staying] grounded.”
Not only has he graduated high school, but he is also the proud owner of an Associate’s Degree in Communications and the Media from BPCC (Bossier Parish Community College) as of December 2017.  There, he concentrated on design, host work and camera work.  He is an employee of Sonic as he saves up for his future aspirations.  He works with Instagram during his free time, his main content focusing on poetry; he defined his writing and its artistic setup as “whimsical, VHS-y.”
What Sparked the Creator Passion?
Since he was a child, he admits to possessing a very active mind.  The tiny little thing that got him started was a ball of yarn he managed to get his hands on.  He had created a special necklace for a good friend at his request; his buddy wore the jewelry until the eighth grade because the other kids looked at him weirdly.
"I am fiery, energetic and grounded."  -- Nathaneal J. Beaulieu
After that experience, he became interested in photo editing.  With his first phone, he took photos of himself and other things.  He then tried editing them in “wacky ways.”  He briefly tried drawing but quickly realized that it was not his forte (add dash to the e of forte).  He also became passionate for dance and poetry at this time.  Dance, in particular, is “a part of [him].”
Nate’s Creations:  Photography and Film
As previously mentioned before, Nate utilizes Instagram for much of his photography and poetry.  He has also created DIY knickknacks and accessories for his family.  He described his work as “loose, whimsical and very detailed.”
He is intent on making people feel and make them feel better about something in their lives.  He works really hard to not have a specific emotion and to let you, the viewer, to interpret it your own way.  He feels that it makes it more personal for everyone.
Exclusive Poetry from Nate, right to you!
Nate has provided a piece of his writing for you to absorb that invigorating goodness!  Make sure to check out more of his stuff if you are craving more.
"The Stoney Steps"
knowing now
that i could've made that first crucial move
towards my future many years ago
despite the bullshit
and it would've all been fine
makes me want to make it now.
knowing my own wisdom, power, and strong intuition
will always lead me to success
is all I need
to go ahead.
 "Thank u."
 He cries in gratitude,
Gracious that someone
appreciates his
Genuine positivity and ambition.
 He's sad from working.
Never gaining enough revenue
To truly thank
the ones that he loves
And that love him
With the gift of the world.
What Does the Future Hold?
He does not want to mention exact information until he is complete with the project.  He is more of a “show and tell” type, especially with his works.  However, he did mention that he has a YouTube channel coming up, focusing on DIY-type and astrology creations and more!
Where Can We Find You? Support You?
Nate works mostly on the platform Instagram.  He is also available on Tumblr along with his own portfolio on his Wix website, if you would like to know or see more of him!

Last Tidbits
Ideas will continue to come back until he either works with the concept or finally fades away.  Nathanael also, unfortunately, has the bad habit of taking on too much at once, complete with a closet stuffed with art supplies.  To be nonspecific, he has more content on the way, so check out his Instagram for updates!

Please understand that some information is not being shared by the creator’s request.  If you cannot understand that, there is not much more we can do to help you.  Safety is a top priority here, and we are here to help the creators, not instigate negative behavior.
To Nate,
I know it took a lot for us to finally conduct our interview (long story), but I am really happy that you wanted to go through with this with me.  Your work is complex and full of emotion.  I feel that those aspects of yours are the essence of every creator, of what they strive for in the end.  It was a lot of fun to work with you on a creative project.  Hopefully, we can collaborate again soon!
Sincerely,
Jasmine Love
{Write Way Studio creator}
P.S. (From Nate!)
At the conclusion of our interview, Nate stated for all you beautiful people out there, “You guys are awesome! All the creators that have been featured.  You guys are awesome.  And whoever’s reading this is awesome.  I hope you have great lives and be very successful.  Peace out.  And good luck.”

Quote #24
"Poetry, when it is really such, is truth; and fiction also, if it is good for anything is truth:  but they are different truths.  The truth of poetry is to paint the human soul truly:  the truth of fiction is to give a true picture of life."
