On Wikipedia, it is written that milk tea may refer to:

Tea mixed with milk

Bubble tea, also known as "pearl milk tea" or "boba milk tea"

Hong Kong-style milk tea, black tea sweetened with evaporated milk

Doodh Pati Chai, literally milk tea, also known as pakki chai.

Teh tarik, a kind of milk tea popular in Malaysia and Singapore

These days, milk tea have been a food trend in Jakarta. You can find store which sells milk tea almost everywhere. Milk tea that is famous in Jakarta is Taiwanese tea-based drink, invented in tea shops in Taiwan, during the 1980s. Why is it also known as pearl/boba milk tea? Because most of Taiwanese milk teas come with small chewy tapioca balls which commonly called "pearls" (珍珠, zhēnzhū) or "boba" (波霸, bōbà).  Some stores also sell the HK-style milk tea, but it’s rare.

Here is a list of milk tea stores I’ve tried:

Calais (Jambi, Pekanbaru, Bekasi, Semarang, Jakarta, Tangerang, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Solo, Surabaya) Calais is a Taiwan big brand to milk tea. It doesn’t only sell milk tea, but also coffee.   Addictea (Jakarta) Located only in Plaza Indonesia, this milk tea is a bit low priced.   Chatime (World Wide) Chatime opened its first outlet in the year 2005 in Taiwan. It sells so many varieties of milk tea itself. But not only that, it also sells fresh tea, juices, smoothies, and coffee. The unique of chatime is that it has the mousse series (cream mousse as its topping).   Gong Cha (Jakarta) Gong Cha has 3 outlets so far. It has a tasty milk foam, which is a very good combination to its fresh tea. It also sells fresh tea, health tea and milk tea. Roppan (Jakarta, Makassar, Denpasar, Bandung, Tangerang) Roppan is a place to hang out with fun and relaxing ambience. It is a great place to stop by and have a break, or a lunch, or even dinner. You can have Japanese foods for the main course, have their rocha as your drink and their roppan for the dessert. For the milk tea itself (known as rocha), Rocha offers the combination of various base tea. Ochado (World Wide) This is the first bubble tea originated from Japan. With wooden interior, ochado has some hook that somehow makes you attached, then addicted (lol) But, seriously, they have super good taste of tea, any kind of tea. The LAB (Jakarta) Definitely unique concept brings this milk tea brand so famous. Sadly they only have one outlet in Pantai Indah Kapuk. The packaging is so unique, just like in the laboratory. They named their tea scienTeas. A lot of selections and even more inventions, they also have snacks. The popular one is the potato twist. Go give it a try! LIN Artisan Ice Cream/I Scream Ice Cream (Jakarta) Different with the one in Bandung, LIN is the first liquid nitrogen ice cream in Indonesia. They only have 1 outlet which is in Kemang, South Jakarta. With cozy interior, LIN serves choices of unique taste of the ice cream, that can be served with waffle, cone, or just with the cup. They also have snacks and selections of coffee. So far, the Ultimate Chocolate with Choco Chips is the best. I just tried 2 out of 12, so I'm still looking forward to try the other flavour of ice cream.

Tonkichi Tonkatsu (Singapore, Hong Kong) Here you can have the authentic japanese tonkatsu, which is very delicious. I recommend Tonkatsu Set, served with a bowl of rice and fresh salad. There is also sesame you can grind by yourself to be eaten with the pork.

Fish n Co (World Wide) It's always fun to have fish as your dish. Fish n Co gives different touch on their specialties which is the 'Fish n Chips around the world' menu. They also have the baked, grilled, and the poached one. Their salad  is very wonderful, and the platters are sooo good. Every single menu tastes good, but I like The Best Fish n Chips in Town and Wild Mushroom Spaghetti the most for the main dish. Some drinks are bottomless refill, they say: Drink like a fish. In Indonesia, there is also the 'seafood shack' outlet in Grand Indonesia which serves smaller portions with lower price.Try them yourself and get hooked!

Hummingbird Eatery (Bandung, Jakarta) With a fresh concept, hummingbird serves a lot choices of food. Not only the main course which is very delightful, the desserts are also wonderful. In the Jakarta's outlet, it serves slices cake from another tender which is also delicious. Their crepes are wonderfully mixed too. What I recommend you to try are Carbonara (my all time favourite), Dory Parmigiana, and Green Sencha tea. Try them yourself!

Dapur Babah Elite (Jakarta) Located in Jalan Veteran I/18-19, this restaurant has a unique interior. At first it seems gothic, somehow horror to me, because the place is dominated by red and it is dark inside even though I went there for lunch. The food they serve are mostly fusion between Chinese and Indonesian cuisine. Although it is a little bit expensive but Nasi Pindang Tjoemi worth the price, really!

Ah Poong (Sentul) A combination between Bondan Winarno's idea and Eat and Eat, Ah poong has always been a crowded place. There are a lot of tenants there, many kind of food and beverages to enjoy. Even though it's not a comfortable place because it's very hot in the day and sometimes it's windy, but Ah poong gives a different experience of eating. Everything is just so good, depends on your taste. They sell more Indonesian cuisine such as balinese, cakwe, rujak, gado-gado, satay. But there are also like chinese foods and milk tea (Calais) but the milk tea costs more I think.

Hong Kong Cafe (Jakarta) Joined penangbistro management, HKC serves a great dining place with a nice ambience and also great fragrance all over the place. This is a great place to have some talks with your relatives while enjoying hong kong comfort foods. Their famous menu are the baked rice and spaghetti with choices of toppings and sauces, also the light meals, fried rice, and nissin ramen which is very tasty. What's good to try: Famous French Toast, Curry Chicken Chop Nissin Ramen, Hang Zhou Special Prawn, Chicken Chop Mushroom Cream Sauce Baked Rice, HKC Special Baked Rice, Popular Honey Lemon.
