Enjoy A Fun Training Session With Threat Down Bleeding Zombie Targets
Tumblr media
Zombie-related merchandise has consistently been popular. Be it video games, movies, books, etc. People love zombie-related products. For example, The Last Of Us, a recent series about a sort of zombie apocalypse, has become a huge success. This demonstrates that demand for merchandise featuring zombies will always be high. We succeeded in bringing that to the range, just as we had hoped to. Say hello to our Threat down-bleeding zombie targets.
Zombie Shooting Targets
The zombie shooting targets were created to make the training session interesting and reactive. Practicing with a standard bullseye target can make you mentally exhausted. This target can add some flavor and serve as a refresher.
Threat-down bleeding zombie targets are very reactive; they are not like the typical shooting targets. Hundreds of cells cover the target's vital areas. The cells contain colorful water-soluble gel. The gel allows for extended use of the target and provides you with immediate feedback on your shots. Since the gel is hazard-free and water-soluble, you don't need to be worried about stains or the environment. The target's 30 x 22 dimensions make it a convenient target for shooting. The target is simple to set up and transport to the range.
Everyone enjoys taking down a zombie. Utilize our zombie shooting targets at the range to do the same. If you’re a person who likes to train with different firearms and targets, you’ll love the Triumph Systems shooting targets. We have created a variety of innovative targets for shooting that work with different training formats. Visit our website to see the many different Shooting targets we have made and select your favorite. Additionally, we give free shipping on purchases over $35. Train hard and stay frosty.
Go for the head. Take down those ZombieTargets today!

Ok yes, fast zombies are sexy scary, BUT, consider: Persistence Hunter Zombies
They don't move very fast, but they literally never stop following you. Laser focused, hooked on your scent, ambling after specifically you, until it gets you or gets brainblasted.
You see it across the road. You run for miles. You stop to rest. You hear the shuffling slowly growing louder. It found you. It always finds you

Relaxing bow session, the sound of the arrow hitting the target is so satisfying for some reason.
The tip of my arrow broke, so I decided to sharpen it, plus damage from getting hit with the bow string.

bleeding blue | apocalypse au
part ten —other parts
Tumblr media
pairing: Simon "Ghost" Riley x fem!reader words: 2.3k tags: death. blood. zombies of course. AFAB reader. single dad ghost. there will be sex but it isn't here yet. slow burn!!! enemies to lovers. summary: After losing your companions, you run into a skull-masked man and his daughter. They are your last hope for survival. a/n: this chapter kicked my butt. thanks for the patience~
An ear-splitting gunshot bites the ground near your boot, close enough to feel the heat simmer through the worn leather. It takes everything in you not to freeze in terror. You grab Blue and run.
Adrenaline kicks into high gear once again, but with her dead weight and your lack of strength, you know you can't get far. You manage to tumble behind a stack of rusted bins just as another round fires.
Blue clings to you. "He's following us!"
Your heart sinks as your fingers reach for your bow— you left it.
"Give me your gun," you sputter quickly.
She shoves the unfamiliar weapon in your hands. A tremble consumes your body as you peek over the barrel to find your target. For a second, you see your attacker as he passes by one of the jeeps. A young man no older than yourself.
Without hesitation, you close an eye and go for his heart, but the bullet grazes the top of his shoulder with a spray of blood. Used to a bow, you aimed too high.
He barks out a swear and then lifts his rifle in retaliation. Before he can shoot, a Grey bursts through the window of the jeep, clamping down on his neck. His throat turns to gore. The gun falls from his grip as screams of pain quickly turn to muffled groans.
Relief and horror pound through your veins. That was close. Too close. You have to get Blue out of here. But how—
There is no chance to decide. Suddenly, she screams again. You whip around to meet the slash of a long knife and the flush of cold air as your coat is torn. Someone has snuck up behind you. You fumble with the gun but the attacker knocks it out of your hand, then fists your hair hard enough to make your scalp burn. It happens so fast. You can't even get a good look at him— only the wild stare of his eyes and the strength of his stature. Whoever these people are, they are certainly better fed than that man in the woods.
You thrash against him, hurling saliva at his face. Apparently, he didn't expect that because he hisses, "Fuck."
You use the distraction to grab your own knife, the only weapon on you, and blindly drive it into the taut muscle of his thigh. He howls, letting go of your hair, and you slip away just enough to dodge the next swipe of his blade.
The fight is short-lived. You've grown stronger, but not enough to fight a man. He is skilled and bulky. Your attempts to hit him are futile. His knife catches you in the forehead, sending a curtain of blood down your face, and he grabs hold of your hair once again.
"Gonna cut your throat first," he murmurs, low and gravelly. "Then your little lamb's."
He will kill you. Then her. You can't let him. You won't. Something animalistic takes hold of you. You do the only thing left you can think of— bite. Hard. The sickening taste of human flesh and hot blood fills your mouth as you rip out a chunk of his nose.
"You bitch!"
He clutches his oozing face. Blue shouts at you, her finger jutting toward something— the Grey. Done with its first meal, it draws toward the scent of fresh blood. Before your attacker can recover, you throw all your weight at him, which isn't much, but it is enough to make him lose his footing and veer into the Grey's path. It grabs hold and sinks another bite into his face.
Suddenly, two more gunshots ring out. One to the Grey's head, and the other through the man's eye. Both bodies flop dead to the ground. Before you can panic, a wild-eyed Ghost returns in long strides.
"Blue!" he bellows.
"Dad!" she yells back.
He heads straight for her, quickly dipping down to check her bandaged leg and search for any other wounds. Fear has forced her eyes to stay open, her body stiff and alert. There is a wet stain at the crotch of her jeans.
"They tried to kill us," she cries.
“I'm here, baby. I won't leave you again.”
You wipe the blood off your face and glance around, panting so hard your lungs hurt. The air reeks of carnage and gunpowder, but the firing has ceased.
"They attacked us," you speak in a raw shout. “Two of them. Did you— Are the rest gone?"
He nods. "Could be more nearby. Let's get out of here before we find out."
He slings the rifle over his shoulder and scoops up Blue without an ounce of the effort it took for you to do so.
He moves fast. Retrieving your bow, you push hard to keep up with him.
Twilight tints the sky purple. You make it past the fence and zig-zag through the medical tents when movement catches your eye again.
"Ghost, to the right!" you scream.
You knock an arrow onto the string, aiming for the distant figure. But the movement multiplies, more shadows lurking towards you with uneven gaits. Not people. Greys. The realization forms a pit in your stomach.
"They can fucking smell us," you choke out.
"Hit the faster ones!"
Arrow after arrow, you aim for the ones that move with the stamina of a more recently infected. To your right. To your left. Ghost carries Blue with one arm and shoots with his handgun. More and more crawl out like cockroaches, no doubt catching a whiff of the blood that stains all three of you.
Two built like linebackers run wildly up to Ghost from either direction. He shoots one, while the other grabs him by the shoulder. You launch an arrow at its skull, your aim more precise now that you're not shooting bullets, and it lets go of him with a squeal.
When the trees grow thicker, it becomes harder to see them. Despair pushes a cry up your throat when you slap a hand back to your quiver and feel two arrows left.
A slippery mix of mud and leaves suddenly takes you down to the ground, your knees landing on a hard tree root. You swear under your breath, fumbling to get back up, when a Grey you hadn't noticed behind you lunges on top, slamming you back down. Pain shoots through your ribs as you frantically roll around, thrusting a forearm against its throat to avoid its opened mouth and kicking your knees into its chest. Then, a fiery bullet lodges into its forehead, the Grey going limp on top of you with a splatter of brains and coagulated fluid.
"Get up, Twix!" Ghost barks.
You shove the body off and scramble to your feet, legs feeling like jelly, but you force them to keep running.
You whip a brief look behind you.
"There's too many— I'm almost out of arrows!"
"The river," Ghost throws over his shoulder. "Those fucks can't swim."
You realize his idea when the roar of water greets your ears. Ghost doesn't hesitate to sprint onto the rusty rebar, slipping his gun away to hold Blue with both arms.
You follow behind, forcing your eyes on the bank ahead as you slow down to keep balance. All you have to do is get across and the river will take care of the rest. Heartbeats pound in your skull, each step requiring an unfathomable amount of focus that you struggle to muster. You're about halfway there when you hear the splash of Greys falling in, and a brief glance below causes your footing to falter.
This time you fail to grab the beam.
Cold water envelops you like a million needles.
A mouthful of water burns down your throat, and for a moment, you can't move. Can't breathe. Everything spins around you. It's not until your feet collide with something hard - the bottom of the riverbed - that your brain registers what's happening and you kick out to propel yourself up.
You break the surface for a gulp of air before the current pulls your head back under. Your arms flail around in search of something to grab. Just when you latch onto what feels like a log, a hand seizes your ankle with a hungered screech. You slam your foot back, over and over, more water filling your mouth as you struggle to kick the Grey and hold on at the same time.
Finally, the rotten skull caves in and the current sucks it away. With your leg freed, you haul yourself up the log toward the edge of the river. You begin climbing up the cliffside, using the twisted roots as footholds, your hands digging into caked soil. You're almost to the top, but you feel numb and weak. So weak. You can't find anything else to grab. The wet sole of your boot begins to slip.
"Grab on!"
A gloved hand stretches down. Ghost is crouched above, Blue now on his back so can he lean over. You grip his hand and he pulls you up, until you collapse on the ground, wet and shivering.
You cough up water and bile.
"Bloody fucking hell.”
It's been a while since you've thought about dying. You've made it this far, instinct always taking the reins and pushing you onward. But now, as the reality of the cold, wet clothes clinging to you sets in, you consider asking Ghost to just shoot you. It would be quicker than freezing to death, and a much better fate than drowning or turning Grey. At least you know Blue will be safe now.
Before you can form the words, you hear the shuffling of fabric. A jacket, a beanie. Set on the ground beside you.
"Take off your clothes. Put these on."
The rest turns into a dream. You don't remember putting the clothes on, or standing up and moving your heavy limbs. You don't remember getting to the hunter's cabin, but the next thing you know, you are curled up on the floorboards beside a small fire, inhaling the musky smell of Ghost's oversized jacket, with the blanket you brought tucked around your bare legs. You don't feel cold anymore. Your head pounds. You can hear the steady rhythm of your heart, slow but present. Behind you somewhere, Ghost tends to Blue. You know this because you hear him whisper to her as her sobs are muffled by biting onto a shirt. Amelia, Amelia, he says to her. A name you've never heard before. He must be cleaning the wound, the pain of it causing her to thrash and kick. Then, the sounds fade, and you know she is asleep.
When your eyes finally tear away from the flames, you spot Ghost hunched over, lifting up his shirt. Dark blood and ink stain pale skin.
"You were shot?"
His eyes snap up. He regards you for a moment, and it is now you notice that most of the white of his mask has been stained with red from his kills.
"Knife," he says.
You don't know why you offer, or why he silently accepts. Somehow you end up knelt beside him, your cracked fingertips cleaning the puncture wound in his torso without a single word exchanged. It's not deep enough to need stitches. You clear the blood and dab on antiseptic. The only sign he feels any pain is the flex of corded muscles beneath your touch and the occasional sharp inhale through the mask. His skin is oddly warm, a temperature that does some to ease the tension in your muscles.
When you're done, you roll the shirt back down. He doesn't say thank you, not that you expected him to.
You break the silence with a voice that barely hovers above a whisper. "You could've let me freeze."
His brows lower. "You could've let them kill her."
"I would never do that." When he doesn't respond, you glance at her sleeping form. "She's okay?"
"Just a graze," he confirms.
"She lost quite a bit of blood. She might need a few days to rest."
Your gaze shifts back to his. You quietly add, "Did you recognize them? Were they a part of the military?"
"Maybe. Their gear was. Didn't know them, though."
"Why did they try to kill us?"
He gives you a look. Of course. He tried to kill you for the same reason once.
"They have a camp nearby," you murmur the answer, more to yourself than to him. "Something to protect."
He gives a slow nod, then moves to grab his rifle and a hoodie to slip on in place of the thick SAS jacket he lent you. As he moves to the door, you realize what he plans to do. Keep watch.
You slip the beanie off and run your fingers over the cut on your brow when he says something just before leaving.
"For someone who once asked me to kill them, you fight hard to survive, Twix."
You don't know what to say. Just hours ago, you almost asked him to kill you again.
There's a beat of silence and then, "Why?"
"Why what?"
"Do you fight so hard."
A breath sticks in your throat, and you stare at the floor. You're not sure why he is asking this, or why the answer is so hard to give.
"I... I don't know."
With that, he leaves. You watch the fire turn to dark embers. The faded adrenaline has left you with a fatigue you have grown familiar with. If you weren't so tired, maybe you would still be scared, your mind filled with fresh memories of gore and death and screaming. But you fall asleep quickly, scooting beside Blue and sinking into the warmth of his jacket.

bad game (aim) - nishimura riki

Tumblr media
you simply couldn’t believe it. some fucking friends you had. what kind of friends invites you to your favorite arcade just to ditch you for some upperclassman they just met there?
whatever there’s nothing i can do anyways, im suck in an arcade with no ride. i don’t think even playing games with make me feel better.
still, you went to play a few games of basketball but couldn’t help get distracted by a black haired boy poorly playing your favorite shooting game, you decid not to do anything since its none of your business and you were already having a shitty evening.
later you play a claw machine but end up continuously losing but seeing the boy continuously lose as well made you smile and you couldn’t help but say something. i mean, you know you said you wouldn’t but he really was butchering the game, its just simply helping. right? its not like your doing this because he’s also somewhat attractive or something?- shaking off your thoughts you get up from the from the claw machine and make way to him.
“your aim is pretty bad” you say teasing the boy thats trying his hardest but failing to concentrate on his game “i can help you? not to brag but im pretty good at this game.”
he looks back at you for a moment, nodding while trying to focus on both the game and you at the same time. “yeah go ahead” he says putting his arm out in attempt to pass you the toy gun from his hand.
you shake your head “theres no need for that just put your gun up”
he looks back at you confused for a moment but does as he’s told. putting his gun up and aligning it to his targets once again.
you stand next to him holding his gun along with him, carefully aligning it so its better.
you and the the boy were so close you were sure he could hear your breathing. you were also hoping he couldn’t hear how fast your heart was beating in this moment. disregarding all this you continue being close, not backing away simply looking at him for a moment, admiring his features. that was until the buzzing sound of *you lose* from the game started going off. distracted the both of you were had forgotten about the zombies you had to kill.
backing away, clearing his throat awkwardly from the whole situation that just occurred. niki began speaking, “uhm y-yeah it looks great uhm- but can you help me a bit more? i don’t think i have the hang of it just yet. theres still another round?”
you chuckle to what he was implying “yeah sure” going back to your original placement but this time holding the boys hand to hold the gun simultaneously is making your stomach flip. the game countdown starts 3,2,1 still you manage to perfectly place the gun, go! shooting its targets gracefully.
you back away this time to look at the boy face to face introducing yourself, “im y/n by the way” offering a hand out for a handshake.
niki chuckles a bit at your formality, shaking your hand back “im niki, you’re really good. you should give me lessons sometime.”
you think about it for a moment but theres no way he’s getting a date from you this easily so you being you, decide to milk it. “i dont know… ill make you an offer though?”
niki reacts with a downturn smile, “mm, that being?”
“you have to get me that minion plush” you say pointing to the claw machine behind him that you were previously struggling with.
niki smirks raising an eyebrow “of course, i can do that easy. just watch.”

SURPRISE! Did you think the day would come when we would cover Love Live on this blog? I didn't!
Yohane the Parhelion: Blaze in the Deepblue is the Metroidvania-style game based on the fantasy spin-off of Love Live Sunshine, but you probably don't care about that! Statistically speaking, our target audience is Bogleech readers who are deeply revolted by anime girls!
So why bring up? Why bring it up? The answer is 🐠 FUNNY FISH! It's Funny Fish Friday!
Tumblr media
Since this game is set in an underwater temple, the enemies this game are all based on sea creatures, and that's cool! Again, statistically speaking, you probably think sea creatures are cool. I really liked seeing the variety of enemies when playing through this game, so I thought it'd be fun if I could share them with an audience of people who otherwise wouldn't care! None of the enemies really have names, as far as I'm aware of. But I'll do my Rubesty...?
Tumblr media
Our first guy we encounter in the game is the sort of guy who emerges from the ground like the Zombies from Castlevania, and wow! A good first impression I think. It is sort of a squid mantle, if the mantle was also a cloak for a spooky sort of wizard! The way it doesn't really have a 'face' in the hood and the eye is below really makes it seem like a weird mimic creature. Cool!
Tumblr media
They also get a tough lategame variant which looks like a mix between a flapjack and a vampire squid. You don't often see flapjacks be designed as scary!
---
Tumblr media
Next is Barnacles! A whole clump of them, like a cake. They shoot Energy Balls at you. Is this what Barnacles can do if they combine their powers...? The top actually opens up, and it looks a lot like a sea urchin's mouth! So maybe it is some sort of naked urchin creature covered in barnacles? Game Theory!
Tumblr media
There are also barnacles with Ice Powers. Like real life!
---
Tumblr media
Let's give it up for Garden Eel!!!!
What a fine Garden Eel it is! Complete with the sort of grumpy face, and with the addition of two little arms that make it look like it's praying or maybe a bit shy. But it is mean! It also spits energy balls at you, then hides in the hole so you can't hit it. How very sneaky!
Tumblr media
SO sneaky, in fact, that these eels have mastered the art of ninjutsu! The ninja eel shows up for a split second in one single room, before smoke bombing away. You'd have to use a time freeze power to get him, but I never got around to doing that. I don't have any beef with a ninja eel! I respect him and his training!
Tumblr media
Did someone say CTENOPHORE? I hope you did, or my hearing has really gotten worse. This thing is a grade A ctenophore, only with a ring of Scary Teeth! A little scary to think of a ctenophore who could Bite you, but nonetheless this deserves a :ctenopog:!
Tumblr media
---
Tumblr media
Let's not forget Fish Vortex! Fish Vortex was the first guy to make me go 'wow, this game's enemies really are awesome!' So of course I had to put him at the top of the post! He is my selling point! I am selling all these enemies to you. For 4.99 a pop!
Anyway. This design is just so funny and cool at the same time. A swirling school of fish that leads into an endless dark abyss, and in the middle, a big eyeball. Also covered in fish. It shoots fish at you! Yay!
Tumblr media
There is also a pink variant - it shoots fish that give you the Solitude status effect, which basically just makes Yohane too depressed to summon her friends. Meaning? They are Depression Fish! Maybe she just becomes so jealous of the unity and teamwork of these sardines. She's me like just for real! ^_^
---
Tumblr media
isopot :)
---
Tumblr media
This slug is an umbrella. That is ridiculous! Ridiculously EPIC! It does the opposite of shield you from rain, which is create rain, that kills you. But I would still want one as an umbrella.
---
Tumblr media
When I first saw this thing, I thought it was some strange round Echimoderm I had never heard of. But upon further inspection (I actually asked Mod Chikako shh), it is obviously like a Brittle Star, with each arm folded round to form a wheel! How creative and fun! It even has a bunch of eyes like a starfish!
---
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last but not least- sushi! There are sushi guys and they are cute. They don't really do much and are typically found in their own rooms, so I'm not sure what the point of them is. But finding a funny walking sushi should be a reward in of itself, I guess! Look at their funny rice feet! Or the one with the roe eyes!
Tumblr media
I happened to use fire magic on one of them and this happened. Oopsies...
Now I am sure you are saying, thank you for showing me all these funny enemies. But are there any cool bosses? Of course there are, me! What's a Metroidvania without cool bosses? So I shall show you my favorites without delay!
Tumblr media
First is this freak (affectionate)! It is a sort of amalgamation of lots of different animals and I think it just looks plain cool! Two squid mantles combined into one, a bit of a sea angel shape, bug legs and of course a great big eyeball!
Tumblr media
If it is not freaky enough for you, let it be known that the bug legs turn into big green skeleton hands, and it also keeps getting pinker, and it grows new eyes and then extra horns grow out of those eyes. If THAT is not freaky enough for you then I am sorry but I cannot do anything about that.
---
Tumblr media
Now, how about a sampling of this Freaken Thang? It honestly doesn't seem that sea-creature themed, but it uses seashells so I guess it counts!
Tumblr media
What is really neat is that this boss has two different forms, upside down and rightside up! When it is upside down it looks a bit like a Magolor type creature. And of course, I really like the flame thing in the middle as well, that really feels like a Kirby enemy or something! Like a wisp made of plasma!
---
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fans of Anomalocaris won't be disappointed by this one! It's a big Anomalocaris tank and boy is it cool! There's something for everyone here, whether you're an Anomalocaris purist or you've always wanted to see it turn into a sort of futuristic beast with a screen mouth that shoots lasers! It really is the future, zura...
---
After covering all these wacky creatures, I'm going to have to end it off with the final boss! What could the big bad, the ultimate boss of all these sea monsters even be, I wonder? Well, it's...
Tumblr media
...a coelecanth. Just a big coelacanth! It is big and blue! And really, does it need to be anything else? It is such an honor to make the biggest ultimate boss a coelacanth. It is even pretty cute!! Think he's smiling! 😊
Tumblr media
Uh oh! Is it still cute? I guess so. My first thought seeing this was of course the world-renowned tongue eating isopod, so I really hope it was an intentional reference! It probably just wants to shake hands. Still, a pretty simplistic design for our final boss, right?
Tumblr media
Buu buu! Its true form actually looks like this! Actually, it's kind of doing too much. Like let's tone it down a little?
So!! We beat the mega ultra coelacanth, and now we can find out what his motivation is! And it is... that he is the memories of the people of the past or something. And they all didn't want to be forgotten, so they turned into fish monsters! But we forgive them!
Tumblr media
It doesn't really matter. All the girlies gather around and sing him a song. Look how happy he is! I forgot I was talking about a Love Live game until now, actually. All's well that ends well, the end, et cetera! Hit it, Yohane! [imagine this is like the end of a kids movie where all the Love Live girls are having a dance party and there is a shot of the big coelacanth in jail and he's tapping his mouth fingers along to the beat]

All these shovelware mobile game ads about the machine gun guys running away from impossibly large hordes of zombies with the power up gates or whatever are so fascinating to me.
I would never play this kind of game, I don't know anyone who would, nor do I think there's a great demand for whatever this format is. Every time the ads show up though I find myself transfixed by them. Suddenly I find it so satisfying watching the little computer puppets shoot faster, or multiply, or make big walls or whatever. I also find it so aggravating when they easily and intentionally miss the powerup and die. "I could do it better" I say to myself. And then I realize who this game is for. It creates its own demand by provoking a competitive instinct--making you wanna show that fake banner ad player who's boss by solving the obvious puzzle yourself and shoveling dopamine into your mouth like popcorn.
The target audience of these games is literally anyone physically capable of watching the ad.

follow up to the rat grinders' leveling post: the bad kids if they did xp leveling.
the rat grinders' leveling post
now that we know what level the ratgrinders could potentially be, let's look at the bad kids.
using milestone leveling, they are level 10 right now. i want to know how that compares to the xp they would have earned.
not all of the creatures they have defeated have been standard monsters from the monster manual, so some of these are going to be guesswork and estimations.
obviously there are some split scenarios; they're not always together during battles, some of them are buffing and achieving other objectives.
this breakdown is going to go battle by battle, for the sake of simplicity, with everyone splitting the xp 6 ways, no matter who killed the target. also i'm going to find xp levels for their humanoid adversaries that they've killed, because they presumably get something for them. also they killed ragh, but revivified him; do they still get xp from his death?
freshman year:
corn cuties + corn blob + doreen:
this encounter works with a spawn point and boss monster; 14 corn cuties are spawned, and seven are killed before riz goes up the corn blob's butthole and shoots the parchment. doreen is killed by adaine, and riz shoots the paper out of the corn blob.
the corn cuties have <9 hp, and based on their damage output, i'd rate them a CR 1/4, so 50 XP each, for a total of 350 gained across the party.
doreen has <11 hp, and based on her damage output, i'd rate her a CR 1/2, given that she has multiple damage options that took several of the bad kids out at 1st level. 100 XP to adaine, but for the encounter it's distributed across the party
corn blob: based on the way it behaves, i would consider it similar to a glabbagool, with pseudopods and engulfing attacks, as well as self-healing. for the sake of the encounter the win condition was not hit point sink but rather getting rid of the enchantment on it. CR 2, so 450 XP.
total XP count: 900 XP, divided by six is 150 each.
johnny spells & the tiefling greasers:
this encounter was a combination of hit point sink and car chase; they killed several by sending them offroad.
one of the greasers died after taking 10 + 3d6 damage, so i'm assuming they probably have anywhere from 20-25 hp. damage output is usually 6-8, which to me says 2d6. so i'd call them CR 1, or 200 each, for a total of 1200.
johnny spells takes 15 + 11 damage before he dies. his damage output is higher than his fellow greasers and he has other spellcasting prowess, so i'd call him CR 2, for a total of 450.
total XP count: 1650 XP, divided by six is 275
the black pit undead:
a little more complex, because the win condition is fleeing from the encounter, so i'm estimating for the big three 'villains' of this encounter and then adding a multiplier for the encounter as a whole.
dj brainzz & the zombies: standard zombies are CR 1/4 (50 XP), and assuming a total of 10 or so, that's 500 from the zombies. from dj brainzz, i'd say something like CR 3 (700), given the abilities he uses, but with hp nerfed to fit the encounter.
sasha, lord of whispers & the vampires: vampire spawn are CR 5 (1800 XP), and 2 had a significant effect, but i'd say that since they aren't technically defeated, i'd half the xp gain (1800 XP)
jawbone & the werewolves: werewolves are individually CR 3 (700 XP) and there were 2 that had a significant effect, but again, none were killed, so we halve that number again (700XP)
total XP count: 3700 XP, divided by six is ~616 each
dwarf skaters + golem:
again a separate win condition; the dwarves run instead of being defeated after fig releases gorthalax. so again, estimates with a multiplier
torek and the dwarves: torek is at least 5th level, since she can cast spirit guardians, so i'd put her at a CR 2 (450 XP). i counted 5 other dwarves, who'd be CR 1/2 each, for a total of 500 XP. totaled it's 950.
crush is like a huge stone golem (CR 10), but is nerfed by the half-pipe, so i'm applying a .66 multiplier, which comes out to 3933 XP.
total XP count: 4883 XP, divided by six is 813 each.
bloodrush skeletons + ragh + daybreak + owlbear:
they got the orb and chest figured out and somehow also made this a hit point sink.
skeletons: individually are CR 1/4, or 50 XP each, but there are 10 or so of them, so i'm applying a 1.5 multiplier to the total, which results in 750 XP
owlbear: pretty standard; CR 3 for a total of 700 XP
ragh: i'd pretty comfortably put him at CR 5, for a total of 1800 XP. they get XP for ragh because they killed him.
daybreak: i'd put him at like a CR 9, based on his use of indomitable and number of attacks, so a total of 5000 XP.
total XP count: 8250 XP, divided by six is 1375 each
aelwyn and her elementals:
smaller split to figure out this time; just aelwyn and her elementals.
elementals: all CR 5 (1800 XP). i think i counted 8: air (2), fire (2), water, earth, slime, and shadow, so that totals to 14400
aelwyn: she casts time stop with aguefort's watch, not from her own magic. i'd put her at like 14th level, and thus CR 9 (5000 XP). they get the full amount because they do defeat her--she doesn't flee or get fled from.
total XP count: 19400 XP, or 3233 each
biz + the arcade ghosts:
a couple of objectives here--getting the girls out, avoiding the traps, and questioning biz, so this split will also consider the arcade traps as part of the cr of the encounter.
ghosts: CR 4 (1100 XP) individually. assumming there's 10 of them, that's 11000 XP right there.
traps: save dc is probably 15, which would set up the games to dole out anywhere from 1800 to 2900 XP. i'm leaning towards the low end, just to contextualize biz. 4 successful captures and releases, so 7200 from the games.
biz is doing a bunch of complex enchantments and summonings. I would set him equal to aelwyn and thus CR 9 (5000 XP).
total XP count: 23200 XP, or 3866 each
the harvestmen:
we don't have a technical count for most of these, so it's going in as a general number for the party, given what they gave up to be at prom and save their families.
fabian gets a little extra for killing bill; i would estimate that bill is CR 10 minimum, so fabian gets 5900 from killing him, even though he didn't do the deed fully.
total XP count: 10000 XP, or 1666 each
kalvaxus, penelope & dayne:
simple splits here; ragh is not being included because he was pretty easily convinced to be an ally.
dayne: i'm using daybreak's stats to put him at a CR 9 (5000 XP)
penelope: high level spellcaster like aelwyn, so she's also a CR 9 (5000 XP)
kalvaxus: adult red dragon. CR 17, 18000 XP
total XP count: 28000 XP, or 4666 each
freshman year total:
99983 as a group, based on these statistics
16663 for each individual. so if the bad kids were running on xp, they'd only have gotten to level 6 cumulatively, and level 5 non cumulatively.
we can probably assume that they receive some xp while attending the AAA to make up the difference; otherwise the school wouldn't really serve a mechanical purpose in this scenario
oneshots: i know not all of them were there for all of these. i am sticking to the 6-way split, because i can assume the missing members would have made it up somehow.
occularia:
she's a beholder. CR 13 (10000 XP)
5 party fouls:
there are 5 of them: the gorgon of shade, minotaur of stunts, centaur of sloppiness, harpy of songs, and sphinx of solitude.
gorgon: CR 5, 1800 XP
minotaur: CR 3, 700 XP
centaur: CR 2, 450 XP
harpy: CR 1, 200 XP
sphinx: CR 11, 7200 XP. i'm going to half that because she got done in by a pun.
oneshots total: 16750 total, or 2791 each.
the going total is then 116733, split into 19455 each. so the bad kids would be around level 6, cumulatively and non cumulatively.
sophomore year:
i know there are hirelings this season. i am maintaining the 6-split because it's easier. this will mostly be addressed by only covering the creatures that the bad kids themselves face.
cambion, barlguras, vrocks:
we're dealing with a couple things here: fig and riz are separated and the party is split. the demons have reinforcements.
cambion: 1 of them. CR 5, 1800 XP
barlgura: total of 8, 6 killed. CR 5, 1800 XP. total of 10800 XP.
vrocks: 2 of them. CR 6, 2300 XP. total of 4600 XP
total XP count: 17200 XP, or 2866 each.
whitclaw + pirates + elves + air elemental:
i am not counting fabian's first attempt, because he doesn't really accomplish anything.
mindflayers: 8 of them. CR 7, 2900 XP each. i'm halving this number because while they get some hits in, i don't think they kill all of them. 11600 total.
elves + elemental: 4 CR 9 spellcasters (20000) plus the elemental (1800). 21800 total, halved because they do not defeat the elves. 10900 total.
whitclaw: i'd put him at around CR 11 (7200 XP), since this includes his magic items and specialized skills
total XP count: 29700 XP, or 4950 each
fire elementals, tree constructs, kir & angwyn:
fire elementals: 3 of them, CR 5, 1800 each. total of 5400
tree constructs: using tree blight stats, with 4 constructs. CR 7, 2900 XP. 11600 total
kir & angwyn: 2 CR 9 spellcasters (10000). i'm giving full value for these because they get them pretty well.
total XP count: 27000 XP, or 4500 each
tiefling greasers + alastair ash + penelope + daybreak + dayne + harvestmen(4) in hell:
a little bit different to how they were freshman year--some of these have stayed the same while others have gone up.
tieflings: i'd say CR 3 (700 XP), but there are 8 of them. so i'm adding a multiplier of 1.33, for a total of 7448 XP.
penelope: still a CR 9 spellcaster based on the spells used, but i'd bump up to 11 given the difference in spell use and damage output. total of 7200 XP.
dayne: still CR 9. 5000 XP.
harvestmen: based on my freshman year estimate, i'd put them at CR 4, or 1100 XP. 4400 XP total.
daybreak: daybreak has changed, now having legendary actions to command his 'troops'. CR 13, 10000 XP total.
total XP count: 34048 XP, or 5674 each
nightmare forest:
similar to family in flames, i'm giving a general estimate for xp gains from the nightmare forest.
total XP count: 30000 XP, 5000 each
angwyn abernant:
this one is exclusive to adaine, because she did execute a fully separate kill beyond what she faced in the forest. angwyn is a CR 9 spellcaster, and thus adaine has 5000 xp extra, much like fabian got from killing bill at the end of freshman year.
nightmare king possession + court of elders + transubstantions + kalina + arianwen:
nightmare king possessed hirelings: i'm going to estimate CR 8 for each of them, so 3900 each, for a total of 11700. XP gained from dispelling the possession.
court of elders: i'm going to estimate that all of the court of elders are at least CR 10, with the centaur and wood elf at CR 10, treant and sprite at CR 11, and the unicorn at CR 12. total of 34600
transubstantiations: this is things like dispelling the dragon madness, cutting down the tree for the broomstick, etc. if you take the tree's hp at around 200 iirc, each transubstantiation is a CR 9 task, for a total of 15000 XP earned.
kalina: she has six attacks, and a variety of intensive illusion magic. she's also prevalent throughout the season in a lot of very complex ways. i'd put her at around CR 18, because even though she's a transubstantiation, she's remarkably difficult to defeat. 20000 XP from kalina
arianwen: high level spellcaster, given that she can power word kill. i'd put her at 18th level, and thus a CR 13, for a total of 10000 XP
resurrecting and naming a deity goes so far beyond the scope of XP that i wouldn't even know how to count it. also the bad kids never technically attack the nightmare king, so the xp would go to gorthalax, who actually attacked. i'm not counting the nightmare king.
total XP count: 91300 XP, or 15216 each.
sophomore year total: 229248 XP, or 38,208 each
going total is 345981, or 57663 each. for cumulative, that works for level 9, for non-cumulative, it's level 7.
night yorb quest:
yorbies: the bad kids have technically unknown amount of yorbies, assume several hundred total. in the fight we saw, they fought ~15 or so grunts. assuming they're around CR 3, that's 700 per. 10500 XP in this fight alone (1750 each), 70000+ XP (11666 each)outside of this particular battle.
the night yorb: in a logical progression from what the bad kids have faced, i'm making the night yorb CR 19, worth 22000 XP (3666 each).
total XP count: 102500 XP, or 17083 each.
The Bad Kids' cumulative total of XP prior to the start of their junior year: 448481, or 74746 each. cumulatively around 10th level, non-cumulatively around 7th.
by comparison, if we use my estimate of 2000000 XP for the rat grinders, they're looking at 333333 each, which is 19th level cumulatively, and 11th non-cumulatively.
now, if we assume an xp model, the 'special treatment' that would enable the bad kids to be almost level with the rat grinders is counting the bad kids cumulatively, and the rat grinders non-cumulatively.
from the perspective of arthur aguefort, this makes sense. he doesn't even like the bad kids; however, they are going out and following his method of adventuring--popping off and saving the world, sometimes from problems you've caused. meanwhile, the rat grinders are devastating the local ecosystem every day for 3 hours a day on weekdays, and 9 hours/day on weekends.
also this scaling speaks to the fact that continually grinding on the beginner level creatures has diminishing returns--always doing the easy thing is not going to help you progress; challenging your limits will.
i hope this is also useful.

could i request for a one-shot with post-RE6/vendetta leon falling in love with his next-door neighbor, the reader? as much as i love young RE2 and RE4 leon, there’s something about him all grown up in the later installments that’s so 🫣
let’s face it, he’s been through a LOT. leon probably isn’t sure if his life has stayed the same (fighting bioterrorism day in and day out, his situationship with ada never becoming anything substantial even after so many years), or if it keeps changing too quickly and rapidly for him to handle (the enemies he deals with getting more and more formidable, and maybe the abrupt end of his situationship 💔). so when the reader comes into his life when they move in next door, they’re like a breath of fresh air to him.
they bake him cookies, don’t treat him any differently when they find out who he is and what he does for a living, and everything else they do just… makes him feel normal. he’s scared to admit his feelings (because he’s an emotionally constipated old fart boo 👎 /J), but when he and the reader start dating, for the first time, he feels like he has a home. it’s not his or the reader’s actual adjacent residences, but it’s the reader. they’re his home.
I adored this req so much I just HAD to make it a series!!
Series Masterlist here!!
Home is More Than Four Walls
Leon's life has been nothing short of hell. He thought he deserved nothing more than that after every mistake he'd made. Until someone new moved in.
Warnings/content: Fem reader, 2nd person (you/yours), Vendetta Leon, references to alcoholism, depression, addiction, and potential suicidal undertones so please read with care.

Leon had gotten far too comfortable with change.
He’d found a melancholy bliss that left him always prepared for shit to go wrong. He’d been stuck like that ever since Tatchi, ever since he felt the immense weight of his actions and their consequences. The weight of a thousand lives lost thanks to his negligence. And it only worsened after he lost his unit a year ago, only to then kill them off once they turned. People he’d bonded with that he then had to murder. He could still feel the blood on his hands no matter how hard he scrubbed. There was a reason Chris had originally found him drinking himself to death. Then there was New York, the whole ordeal having him wonder one thing.
When would this end? It had gotten to the point where it was bordering on insanity. If he kept going like this he’d likely end up getting shipped off to rehab. Sleepless nights filled with lifeless eyes staring dead into him, moments of quiet solemness as he mourned lives and relationships lost. Mourned his younger self, the rookie with no clue of what awaited him in Raccoon City. But not in a respectful way with a mental funeral, laying the young man down in a cleaned coffin and lowering him into a bed of lillies. It was more like tossing a corpse to the side and moving on. The years of constant fighting only for nothing to change had turned him cold. That boy with a sense of hope and pride, that boy who became a police officer to repay the service that had saved him when he was a child - that boy was gone. It had been replaced by the shell of a man with a gun forced into his hand. Before he’d even known it he was born and bred to be the DSO’s soulless weapon. Like a brainless zombie, they lined his gun up with the target and yelled at him to shoot.
So he did. Time after time. Year after year. No time for personal affairs, no time for hobbies or outside activities. No time for what made him human.
Maybe that was why Ada had left him.
Ada, the woman on the run who’d appeared out of nowhere only to disappear once more. The one he’d been chasing after for too many years to count, who he defended during Tall Oaks and risked his life for. The one who was no longer keeping score on how many times they’d saved each other.
 The one who’d called it quits on him.
He remembered it so clearly. That miniscule glint of pain behind her professional gaze like a spinel hidden among the rocks, that of a mercenary staring down the sight of a crossbow with perfect aim. The way she stuck out her hand to shake as if it had all been some type of business partnership. Nothing more than looking out for someone to gain something. A lead, a life saved, a death quickened. It was all a ploy to her.
Leon wasn’t one to beg, he hadn’t been for quite some time. He was persistent, sure, but not to the point where he felt like he was grovelling.
He was ready to drop to his knees when Ada told him they couldn’t keep going the way they were. That they were only putting each other in danger. After a constant sprint towards her, it all came to a harsh halt. It was like his heart had been stomped on repeatedly, a sharp high heel straight through his ribcage. He would’ve rather she’d shot him. It would’ve hurt less.
But luckily he was good at masking it. So when she broke the news to him, he just gave her a stiff nod and shook her hand. As she made her exit, he had to hold back everything telling him to bolt into the nearest building to sob to himself for the first time in years. To blame himself for the fourth time that day. He wasn’t usually an emotional person, not when it came to crying. Leon Kennedy never cried, and he prided himself on that. But Ada brought out the worst in him. The worst and the best.
The months blended together after that moment. A bland concoction of aimless meetings chased down with long droning lectures on his behaviour. He was erratic, he was impulsive and most importantly he was too distracted to focus on anything other than that grey spot seeped into his brain. No one could blame him though, those who’d heard of their situationship ending seemed to pity him. He didn’t want their pity. Not for that or for his countless failures.
Routine health check results had forced him to move away from his work at the DSO for a few months. His heartbeat was too quick, his stress levels unhealthy and his jumpy reactions to so much as thunder had him listed as a person of concern. A person who had to be forced to take a break, to leave and get out of town.
So that’s exactly what he did.
But Leon knew nothing of his life without some sort of mission, some kind of drive for a success or cure for some terrorising sickness that plagued his conscience the same way it did the human body. He was built on trauma, on the need to do something with his life for the greater good. But all of that had been stripped away from him, leaving behind a scared 20 year old stuck in a grizzled, battered body.
He’d packed up his stuff and moved out of town to a small area just outside of the city, where no one asked questions and rarely even spoke to one another. He was away from it all, yet still felt so close. He was incredibly on edge as if at any time the bored looking man across the street by the name of Mr. Danvers would burst into a pale skinned, veiny creature that he’d have to kill off. Or maybe Miss Lampkin had secretly followed him from the DSO to assassinate him, forcing him to eliminate her in self defence. Another person shipped off in a body bag courtesy of Leon Scott Kennedy.
But the question still stood clear as day in his mind amongst the hustle and bustle of dread. Was he willing to fight it back anymore?
He didn’t feel good about himself if it weren’t all that obvious. If he wasn’t drowning every issue in a bottle of bourbon, he was sinking into his own self loathing. Avoiding any issue he could, dodging any problem that couldn’t be easily solved. He closed his heart off with walls stacked tall made from reinforced steel.
That’s why he fit in so perfectly where he was. Another husk in a greyed community, just like everyone else.
Until you came along.
“Thanks guys!”
The sound of someone so cheerful, so welcoming in his community drenched in monotone shades that it genuinely stunned him. It stopped him in his tracks on his way to the front door, just as he went to check the mail. Leon cursed his own curiosity as he felt his eyes drifting instinctively to the window facing the commotion. The outcome of this was completely unknown, for all he knew he was about to face just another grump masking their snarl with a soft smile. A form of customer service, if anything. Scolding his timing, he knew he’d otherwise forget to collect his mail for the next few days in case another blur hit him. So he slipped on a pair of older shoes, buried his pride for looking like an absolute mess and made his way out into the sun.
As soon as the chirpy voice broke through the silence of the street, Leon was turning to see where it came from. It seemed impossible for someone so cheerful to live in such close proximity.
“Oh let me help you with that. I’ll take it.”
Surely it was his imagination. He must have been slipping into some type of manic state of auditory hallucinations, because no one had ever sounded that happy to be there.
Yet there you stood, a bright welcoming smile that put the sun to shame as you helped the movers bring your stuff into the house with a grateful nod. With softened eyes and a sparkling personality he could see from a mile away. Freshly cleaned sneakers - as if trying to make a good impression with your new neighbours -sensible yet comfortable jeans, a shirt a size too big for you as you took whatever you could to try and make their lives easier despite that being their job.
Leon let out a quick exhale of amusement, closing up his mailbox to walk back down the cement of his walkway. He genuinely found it funny for someone like you to move in.
You were a drastic difference to the rest of the neighbourhood, most of which were grumps or quiet assholes who refused to interact within the community. Those who chose to drink with themselves as comfort in complete silence. Which would explain why Leon was there after everything he’d been through.
You were far too bright to be in a place like this. A yellow daisy growing through a crack in the concrete.
He was just waiting for the reality of the situation to settle into you. For you to realise you’d just signed your life away for a world of misery. Unfortunately he knew it was likely. This part of the city was going to break your spirit at some point, he could feel it in his bones.
In some sad way he could already see that younger version of himself like you. Someone grown and watered with pride and meaning, a fate sealed for something better than a normal life.
He was waiting for your own Raccoon City incident to happen, and he could practically feel it impending. He could already hear the thundering footsteps of a Tyrant.
But he chose not to dwell on it, instead closing the door behind him to slip his shoes off and go back to his usual routine. Check over files, throw a meal into the microwave, send through overdue reports, and try to avoid the calls he could hear coming from that specific part of his fridge. Calls from chilled alcohol. Calls from the crate he had sitting at the bottom of the pantry.
Leon had been trying his best to kick the harmful habit of drinking whenever things got too tough to handle. When the buzzing in his head grew to an excruciating screech. When he could hear the echoing cries of the people he left behind. Heard the crack of bones under his hands. He wasn’t a good person, some miniscule part of him knew that, and one day he’d have to wake up and realise that voice is right.
Or at least that’s what he thought.
Before he knew it, it was nighttime. Deep into nighttime, to the point where he should’ve had dinner hours ago but still had yet to touch the microwaved lunch he’d tossed in. Despite his wealth, Leon found it humbling to live in a small suburbia like this one, it kept him sane. No long empty hallways. No ghosts sitting in the dining room.
He never wanted to flaunt that part of his life, there was no need to. It would only earn him unwanted attention and that was the last thing he needed at a time like this one. He was already sabotaging himself, he didn’t need to drag others down with him as well.
That blur was hitting him again, and no amount of garbage bags and boxes being moved out onto the curb could snap him out of it. Shit, how did he end up out here? Sky full of faded stars, light from the old streetlamp’s light casting the street in a softened orange tone. How long had he been on autopilot, a walking corpse of programmed answers and tasks? Was he nothing more than a machine?
Was this what his life was destined to be? Pacing back and forth across his overgrown front lawn and the deck he hadn’t bothered to varnish until he was accepted back into the DSO, the place that helped to rob him of a regular adulthood? What if they didn’t take him back? What if he was here forever, trapped in a suburban purgatory?
He needed to come back, to take control of his feet with each pad across the walkway back to his house as if he were taking control of his life once more. He couldn’t feel his fingers despite moving them. Everything seemed fuzzy. It was like he was stuck in a state of paralysis, all of his nerves firing off as if he’d been scorched with hot coals every time a muscle moved. He became far too aware of his breathing, every hoarse huff from months of ashed abuse with a heart pumping far too loud. He could hear it beating through his ears, feel it in the back of his eyes. He was drowning.
Until he heard a frustrated huff followed by something hitting the ground.

Chapter 5
Eustass Kid x crewmate!fem!Reader
TW: some street harassment from an unnamed man, cursing, allusion to prev smut, very brief descriptions of sexual harassment, drinking
A/N: this one was loooooooong, sorry I’ve been struggling with work and I can’t work on this as much as I’d like too
~~~~~~
It was nothing. You thought the moment you woke up.
It was nothing. Over and over in your mind as you rolled out of bed.
It only happened because you were tired. You almost said it out loud while getting dressed, your mumbling earned you a look from House.
Because you couldn’t think of anyone else. You felt like a zombie trudging to the galley for coffee and your daily assignments.
And you couldn’t think of anyone else, because you were tired.
You rubbed your eyes and tried to not think, as Killer greeted you, the coffee still brewing.
The rest of the morning crew were giggling and chatting away, you kinda wanted to shoot one of them out of jealousy. Instead you tucked into the plate of eggs and fruit Killer placed in front of you.
He paused at your tired expression, but went back to cooking. Today would be long, you decided.
It’s my punishment for last night. You shook your head quickly to clear your mind. A few crew mates nudged each other, grinning.
“Hey sunshine,” Hop called out. “You look a little rough, long night?” Quincy giggled, you sent them both a withering glare.
“Maybe if you hadn’t chipped your sword in 5 different spots I wouldn’t have been up all night.” You grouched, she blushed and clammed up. You turned to Quincy. “Stop giggling, how the fuck did you manage to break the bolt on your gun?”
“Hee~ it’s a mystery.” She winked.
“You’re a menace.” You said, stuffing more eggs in your mouth. Killer places a mug of coffee in front of you and clears his throat, gaining everyone’s attention.
“We won’t be docking until a little past noon, if everyone gets their tasks done before that then you can do whatever you want on shore,” He paused for the usual cheers, being morning crew on shore days was the best. Afternoon crew had to do supply runs and maintenance, but at least they got to sleep in. “Now finish eating and I’ll give you an assignment.”
You don’t take your time, hoping to rush through whatever cleaning you have to do and get a nap in before docking. After rinsing your dish and chugging your coffee, you wait in front of Killer.
“You only got two chores today, mopping the hallways and helping Wire with some charting.” Killer pauses for a moment. “After that try to get some close range target practice in before going on shore. Captain wants everyone in top shape.”
You almost groan, charting maps with Wire and sharp shooting practice would easily take the full morning, if not the whole day. Maybe you can get Wire to have mercy on you, doubtful though, he’s way too passionate about maps. Killer dismisses you and you refill your mug before heading out to mop.
The hallways weren’t difficult to mop per se, but they were long and winding, plus there was frequent foot traffic to account for. Too many people walking around leads to slipping, so it was best to mop a section then go back with a towel to dry it then rinse and repeat. Your caffeine buzz gave you a burst of energy and it only took you an hour to get it done.
Now you just had to help Wire and you could nap, though you weren’t sure how you could help with charting it wasn’t your area of expertise.
Still, it was an order from Killer so you met with your tallest crew mate on the deck. There were several crew mates milling about, either working on chores or sparring. Wire was already sitting, pencil moving briskly with a smile on his face.
“You’re literally the cutest,” You said as you sat down. “Seriously I could eat you up.” He looked up at you with his heavy eyes and smiled again.
“Oh sweetie I doubt you have the appetite.” He said demurely, before the both of you burst out with laughter. Wire was easily the biggest flirt on the crew, besides you of course. He took a moment to observe you as you sat, noticing your eye bags and red sclera. “You look like you had a long night. You got a special someone I don’t know about?”
“Ha! Yeah right,” You snort, taking a sip of your now cold coffee. “You’d be the first to know if I had a new beau.”
“Oh I better be.” Part of you worried he’d start making assumptions again, but he spared you instead rifling through some papers.
“So what do you need me for? I’m not exactly a navigator.” You ask, he smiles again.
“True, but charting isn’t just marking a path on a map, it also involves some local intel.”
“Oh? How can I help then?”
“Well you know how Captain has changed course to go to the West Blue yes?”
“Uh- yeah I guess.” You feel an anxious pit in your stomach.
“Well we’re going after a specific crew, have you heard of a Captain Badger?” He asked, pulling out an old faded bounty, the picture was grainy but you’d recognize that face anywhere.
“Ummm.” You grabbed the paper, playing up your pause. “Yeah I think I have.” Wire seemed excited.
“Wonderful! Do you know where he operates out of? Or what his crew name and size is?”
You knew, but getting the words out was difficult. You didn’t think Kid had been serious about going and killer you former captain. Now you’d have to explain you past to everyone, who knows how they’d react. They’d think you were a coward. Or worse they’d pity you.
“Pretty sure he’s got a smaller crew, like less than 20 people. And I uh- I don’t remember his crew name, it was something like Wave or Tide Pirates.” You offer with a sheepish grin and a shrug, Wire tilted his head then started writing again. “Did the Captain say why he was go after him?”
“He said he wants him dead and that’d I’d know more when I need to know more.” Wire grinned. “Which is what he usually says so chances are this guy insulted him once like a year ago and now we’re gonna kill him.” He chuckled, you tried to join in but it sounded watery.
“We-Well if you don’t need anything else-”
“Oh, yes do you know where he operates out of? Does he have a base camp or anything?” Wired asked.
He wishes, you thought wryly.
“Hmmm, I think he stays around Toroa. That’s all I can remember.” You laugh shakily again and dismiss yourself. Wire frowns, he’d rather have you here while he finished the map to answer any other questions. But you seemed so unlike yourself today, he hoped you went and rested a bit.
Part of you wanted to scream, Kid was seriously delaying their journey just to go kill some guy he’s never even met. You laid back down on your bunk, Hip was getting dressed while Emma brushed her hair.
“Morning, Doll.” Emma smiled at you, you grunted out a greeting and pulled the blanket over your head. “Oooff you alright?”
“She got in late last night,” Hip answered for you, fixing her lipstick. “Let her get some sleep before we dock.” She flicked the lights off.
“Hip I could kiss you right now.” You groaned out, grateful to your friend. The two opened the door to leave, Hip poked her head back in.
“You’d ruin my lipstick~” She purred dramatically.
“Tragic, how will I ever recover?” You chuckled dryly, taking the time now to remove your outer clothes before your nap. You ended up in your underwear and a baggy top.
“Have sweet dreams love!” Hip called out, Emma slammed the door shut probably sick of your jokes.
You didn’t sleep deeply, constantly tossing and turning, you tried not to think about Kid or why he was doing all of this. It was so out of nowhere, a month ago you barely even spoke.
Eventually you settle enough to dream of nothing, of course that didn’t last long and soon enough someone was pounding on your bunk door. You jolted awake, worried there was a fight or something, and grabbed one of the many knives off the wall before yanking the door open.
Kid seemed surprised to be on the business end of your knife, you stared at each other for a bit before he started laughing. You flushed and lowered the blade with a muttered apology.
“Shit you’re a fucking sight!” He cackled, leaning against the doorway. His eyes drag up and down your form and you feel like bursting into flame when he gives a low whistle. “What’s with the get up? You trying a new look?”
You slam the door shut and go to put some clothes on, you wouldn’t bother to put clothes on if the ship was under attack. But you didn’t really feel like talking to your captain in your undergarments. At least you’d worn boxers so there was a little bit of coverage.
Kid shoved the door open as you picked up some clothes.
“Oi could’ve broken my nose!”
“Why were you pounding on my door like that?” You asked trying to yank your pants on. “Thought we were under siege or there was a fire!” He laughs again.
“Well nice to know you’re always ready for a fight!” He’s grinning and if you weren’t so embarrassed you’d have found the situation funny too. “Anyways we just docked and you weren’t on deck so I came to grab ya.”
“Thanks, Boss.” She buckle your belt, making sure it sat well on your hips before pulling your tank top on. His eyes were still watching you, you felt warm again. “Sorry, I was sleeping, didn’t hear the call on the comms.” He grinned again.
“Yeah? You were up late last night.” He didn’t say it like a question, but you still answered like it was.
“Yup weapon repair took longer than expected. Didn’t finish until late.” You yank on your boots now, he’s back to leaning on the doorframe.
“I know.” His smile was wide and at that moment you felt exposed again.
“Huh?”
“I was up and saw your dinner still in the fridge.” He shrugged. “Figured you weren’t done yet.” He didn’t reveal more, just in case you suspected it was him outside the showers last night. You feel a little bit better now.
“Yup, like I said. Took a while, I ate eventually before bed.” You kept it short, hopefully you seemed relaxed. Probably not. “You need anything else?”
He frowned at the dismissive tone, but didn’t comment just walked out towards the deck, leaving the door wide open. You sighed, glad he was gone. That conversation could’ve been much worse, you count it as a victory.
Heat popped his head in as you finished getting ready, eyes suspicious.
“You alright? Just saw Kid walk out of here like he was pissed.”
“I’m good, he woke me up from my nap and I kinda held a knife at him.” You tie your hair back away from you face with a grin.
“Woah why’d you threaten him?” He looked impressed.
“He scared me! I thought we were under attack so I was just prepared for an enemy to be at my door!” You laughed while trying to defend yourself. “I’m sure he’s pretty pissed about it. Surprised he didn’t revoke my shore leave.”
“Nah there’s no way he’d be mad at you.” Heat walked with you to the deck. “He’s probably into that typa shit.” You make a face and cover your ears as he opens the door for you, cackling at your blush.
“I don’t need to know your theories, thank you!” The deck is mostly empty, just a few people who are on duty milling about. Killer and Kid are next to the exit, talking together with Wire.
Heat walks with you to the exit, you have no plans at shore but it’s mid afternoon so there’s plenty to do. You pass by Kid without looking at him, hoping to escape without an incident. Wire waves you over and you feel like crying.
“I’ll catch up with you,” You let Heat go on without you. “Let’s meet for drinks in an hour. Same spot as last time, yeah?” He gives you a thumbs up and climbs down. You walk over to the group and nod your greeting, eyes on Wire.
“I was just letting Captain and Killer know, I’ve finished charting our course!” Wire was lit up, lidded eyes shut as he smiled and swayed. “Thank you for the help, by the way.” Kid looked bored and Killer looked….well like Killer.
“Of course, not a problem.” You desperately want to leave right now, but with 3 high ranking crew mates you knew better than to go without being properly dismissed.
“If you remember anything else, let me know! I’m hoping to figure out his crew’s name.” Wire hummed distractedly. “Maybe I can find a more recent bounty with it.”
Killer cocks his head to the side, an exaggerated confusion, while Kid just flat out gapes at you. Your smile is wobbly and you hope they don’t ask you about it. You just didn’t want more people knowing about your old captain, it’d be too much of a hassle.
“I think it may be a good idea for you and Wire to have a session together.” Killer said slowly, Kid opened his mouth but a nudge from his first mate kept him quiet. “You’ve been here for months, it’d be good for you to have a check up.”
“Oh?” Wire perked up, he knelt down so he was a little closer to your height, something he did when a sensitive moment popped up. “You know, I didn’t realize it, but we never had an official talk before have we?”
“I guess not,” You cringed, the idea of having a sorta-kinda therapy session didn’t interest you at all. “I don’t think it’s necessary.” Wire waves at you are with a smile.
“Nonsense! It’s part of my duties, plus it couldn’t hurt.” Wire patted you gently.
“So it’s decided,” Killer said. “You two make a plan for it, if there’s a problem, let me know.” He said that last part to you, you could feel it.
“Wonderful!” Wire smiled and you tried to mimic him, but it definitely looked like a scowl. Kid was frowning now as you were finally dismissed and practically ran off the boat.
“I’m getting a drink.” Kid announced, feeling pissy as he followed slowly after you. He pretended he didn’t hear Wire’s little chuckles.
You had a sizable lead on him by the time he actually dismounted, but he kept a close eye on you as you darted from stall to stall in the marketplace. It was a rare luxury to be able to choose from such a variety of stores, he found himself taking his time at certain spots. His bounty proceeds him so most places gave him a hefty discount, he grinned as he browsed a stall full of niche tools.
He hadn’t meant to get distracted from you, but he was conversing with the elderly man at the stall about which item would be the best suited for his style of work when a commotion from on the other side of the crowd started up. A man’s voice could be heard, cocky and forward. Kid could make out something about a date.
“Oh boy, looks like another young man is causing trouble.” The old man said tiredly.
“Huh?” Kid tried to peer over the crowd but the commotion was around a bend, obscuring his view.
“There’s a lot of very…insistent men around here.”
“Insistent? What the fuck does that mean.” The old man curled his lip at the cursing, but Kid was too busy being nosey to notice.
“You know, insistent…with the ladies. Especially in such a crowded place.” The man shrugged as Kid turned to sneer at him. “Try not to let it disturb your browsing. It’s a minor nuisance.”
“So you don’t try to stop it?” Kid felt himself getting angry. “Even though you know it’s a problem?”
“Not really, it really can’t be helped, especially with so many new, beautiful women coming though every day. The boys will grow out of it eventually.” The man chuckled, like he thought Kid would laugh too.
The red head snarled and shoved his way back onto the streets, easily knocking several people out of his path. He came upon the scene and nearly exploded.
Of course it was you giving him a damn head ache.
You were facing a tall, spindling young man. His face pinched in a frown as he tried to grab your arm again. You yanked your arm back, lips curled back in a sneer.
“Fuck off, I said I’m not interested.” You told the man, the crowd continued moving around you both as if they didn’t even notice. The man tried to step closer, you put your hand on your holstered knife, he paused.
“Come on now, a pretty thing like you ain’t gotta carry a knife.” You caught sight of Kid, relief flooding your face, until he started grinning.
“Nah,” Kid interrupted, stepping behind the guy. The scrawny man turned to glare at him but went pale when they made eye contact. “Pretty thing like her ‘as gotta carry a knife. Too many little shits out there tryin to be creeps ya know?” He grinned down at the guy, then walked to stand by you nudging you with his elbow.
“I think you should stab him.” Kid continued, eyes locked on you.
“Wait a min-“ The man starts.
“Unlike some people I actually try to keep a low profile on shore.” You ignore the man, glaring up at your captain. “Let’s just leave.” You move to walk off, but Kid grabs you by the belt loop, gently halting you.
“Who? Me?” He laughs, the crowd is thinning out as they sense his threatening presence. “Did you even tell him you were a pirate?” You shrugged, peering up at him now.
Oh shit, he wanted to show off for you.
“Woah a pirate?” The man, who Kid had honestly forgotten about, shouted. “No way you’re fucking lying!” Kid rolls his eyes.
“Fuck you’re annoying,” He drawls and raises his hand to the Bowie knife strapped across his chest. “I’m sick of hearing you talk. If she won’t kill ya, I sure as fuck will.” The man jumps back, knocking into someone, Kid starts to move towards him but your hand on his arm stops him.
That’s right, I’m supposed to make her not scared of me.
His pause gives the creep enough to run off blubbering and the crowd of people come forward to occupy his now empty place. Kid nervously glances down at you, wondering how much he set your relationship back. He was met with your bored stare.
“Seriously? We’ve been on shore for what? And hour?”
“Hey don’t lecture me, I’m the captain I’ll do whatever the fuck I want.” He grumbled, but allowed you to lead him down the street. Your hand was still on his arm, the one not covered by his coat, and the feeling makes him flush.
“You are, but everyone’s gonna be pissed if we have to deal with Marines already.” You press into his arm now to direct him down a smaller path. It’s less crowded so you let go of him and give a little space, he tries not to yank you back to him.
“Whatever, can’t believe you let that fucker live.” He knew he should leave it alone and just be glad you didn’t run scared from him. But he couldn’t help poking at that bear.
“If I killed every creep that flirts with me, I’d be in jail.” You chuckle a little, one look at your captain though and he looks pissed.
“Who the fuck is flirting with you all the time?” He barks and you bristle.
Oops.
He realized now it kinda sounded like he didn’t think you were attractive enough to be flirted with.
“So two seconds ago you were calling me pretty. Now I’m not?” You tried not to feel insulted but… it stung a little. You don’t know why, but you didn’t like the thought that Kid found you unattractive. It’s nothing.
“That’s not what I meant!” He tried to argue, but you spotted Heat waiting outside a bar ahead. So you took the easy way out and sped up to a jog. Kid kept his pace, but followed after you, desperate to make his case.
“Heat!” You called out and hugged your friend.
“Took ya long enough,” The stitched man smiled, then did a double take as Kid trailed behind you. “Hey captain. What’re you doing here?”
“We ran into each other,” You said dismissively, pulling Heat to the bar’s entrance. “Do they have food? I’m fucking starving.”
“Yeah I think so.” Heat glanced back to watch Kid follow you both in. “He good?” He asked you in a hushed tone as you sat down at a booth in the corner. Heat stood glancing between the two of you.
“Probably?” You shrugged. “There was a guy I got into it with, he’s probably pissed I didn’t kill him.”
Heat slid into the bench opposite from you, as Kid sat at the bar. The place wasn’t busy, but late afternoon would fade away into night soon and it’d be packed. The bartender served Kid then came over to get your order.
“Hey I remember you!” He said as he pointed at you. “You were here a few weeks ago, yeah?” You smiled politely and nodded, Heat had a guarded expression, but the guy just took your orders and left for the kitchen. Kid glanced back at you as you sipped your beer.
“Weird that he remembered us.” Heat started, you chuckled.
“I mean, you and captain are pretty memorable.”
Heat grunted but didn’t continue. The time passed by quickly, you and Heat ate and drank your beers. Slowly more patrons started trickling in, mostly your crew but some locals too. At some point you pulled out a deck of cards and started a no stakes game with Heat, hoping to improve your skills.
Kid was suspiciously quiet, you’d glance at him often, but he just drank in solitude. Occasionally a crew mate would come up and chat with him, but when they left he’d just fall silent again. He glanced at you about as often as you did him, until Killer finally joined on the stool next to him.
“Pay attention before I make us play Go Fish.” Heat admonished you, your face turned red.
“Jokes on you I’m a shark at Go Fish.” You grin at him despite the shame of being caught.
As the night finally kicks off and nearly the entire crew, minus those on ship watch, are here, you and Heat finish your game. He splits off to find Wire and you go up to the bar for some stronger drinks. There were no open spots so you tapped on Killer’s shoulder, he made space between him and Kid. You waved at the bartender, having to stand on the barstool’s foot rest to be tall enough.
“What can I get you, gorgeous?” The man asks smoothly. Both men beside you tense, but you through your head back in a laugh, the previous drinks got you a little more comfortable.
“Can I get 2 shots of whiskey and a rum and coke?”
“Of course!” The bartender starts working on that, you keep an eye on him as Killer leans to speak with Kid over your head. You can’t really hear them, but ignore to focus on the man making your drinks. “Here you go.” He places the 3 glasses down and you put a few Berries on the counter, Kid swipes them back to you quickly.
“Hey!” You and the bartender say at once, your captain sneers then throws down his own Berries.
“Shut up both of ya!” He avoids your eyes and tucks back into his drink. Killer let’s off a restrained chuckle, you can feel it more than hear it against your side. You shrug, ready to let your captain’s weird behavior go if it meant free drinks, the bartender though didn’t seem as willing.
“Aw what a gentleman,” He grins at you. “Here I thought chivalry was dead.” Kid glowered at him, but Killer shook his head, which made the redhead frown harder.
“Thanks, Boss!” You say to ease the tension, then offer him one of the shots. “This was for Heat but he ditched me, you want it?” He regards you for a moment and takes the shot without a word. He grunts at the burn and watches you take yours then take a quick sip of your coke to chase it. Killer let’s out a brisk goodbye and vacates his seat, yanking you onto it.
“This shit is cheap, let me get some of that.” He gestures to your glass, normally he wouldn’t need a chaser, but he didn’t want you running off just yet. Or worse, talking with the stupid bartender again, who seems to be hovering around you. You slide him the drink, he takes a sip and grimaces again. “Fuck that’s strong, got what? Like an spit’s worth of coke?” You nod.
“Yeah it’s kinda strong,” You make a face as you take another sip. “Maybe I just gotta stir it.” You swirl it with a straw from the bar and try again. Nope, still strong.
“Tryin’ to get her drunk fast?” Kid shoots at the bartender, who pretends like he wasn’t listening.
“Does the lady not like her drink? I can certainly remake it for you.” He ignores Kid to speak with you, who is steadily considering murder. You wave his question off.
“Nah, it’s fine.” You’d rather just drink it, this guy was really annoying Kid and it was better if he just gave you some space.
“If you change your mind~” He winks at you and you fight back a laugh. This guy was over the top with his flirting. “Just let me know, my name is Jon.” He finally walked off to service some more patrons, the second bartender, an older woman, arrived to help with the orders.
“Fucking annoying ass dick head.” Kid mutters, you roll you eyes, but he doesn’t see it.
“He seemed nice enough.” You said lazily, eyes scanning the crowd as you stir your drink again. “Kinda cute too.”
“What? Seriously?” Kid looks you up and down like you’ve grown another head.
“Yeah, he’s nice at least.” You shrug.
“Gross. You’re way outta his league.” He needs to shut up, right now.
You’re stiff again, suddenly remembering his insult earlier. He can feel the change in you and quickly looks away, staring at his beer like it would hide him.
“Whatever.” You hop off the stool and go to leave, his hand grips your upper arm tightly. You flinch and tense, his grip softens but doesn’t leave, you let him pull you back onto the stool.
“That wasn’t what I meant… Earlier.” He said slowly, his hand slips down to hold your forearm.
“When you said I wasn’t pretty enough to be flirted with?” You clarified for him, he scowled but tried to force it away.
“I never said that!” He cuts himself off. “Look, you’re plenty pretty. I just meant that creeps shouldn’t be bothering you, ya know?” He finishes lamely, heat on his face, trying to look at you. A pause hangs in the air and he finally looks at your face, you keep it neutral for a moment.
“So… you think I’m pretty?” You ask with a grin, he snatches his hand away from you with a growl. Your face is also red, but you poke his arm playfully. “What’s next? You gonna propose?” He flushes more and grits his teeth.
“Knock it off will ya! I’m trying to be nice for fucking once!” He bats your hand off of him, hoping he seems as annoyed. “Acting all hot and cold on me.”
“Calm down, Boss. You know I don’t mean anything by it.” You hold your hands up in mock surrender. His eyes cut to you then back to the crowd.
“Yeah, I know.”
What's gonna happen if someone gets shoot in the head? Will flesh and blood go all over the place, or will it be a small entry and exit, or will it be something else? Tryna write a zombie story rn and I'm not sure 😭
Usually, they die.
How much damage the head suffers will depend on what was fired. Specific cartridges result in different wound patterns, and if you have a forensic background, you may even be able to identify the bullet used based on the entrance and exit wound. Smaller handgun rounds are likely to result in less tissue disruption. Rifle rounds are more likely to cause serious structural damage, and shotgun shells (particularly buckshot) are likely to cause serious tissue disruption. But, there's another consideration, the more the decomposed the target, the more a round is likely to do. This one's honestly pretty hard to assess in generalities, because there are a lot of factors for decomposition.
This also leads into a far more difficult question, “what happens if you shoot a zombie in the head?” The answer might be, “nothing.”
So, there's two groups of zombies in popular fiction, and the answer to the above question hinges on which one you're examining. Zombies can either be infected with rabies or actual undead, and the latter are far more uncommon in modern pop culture.
A lot of popular zombies are, technically, alive, but cognitively functioning on a more animal level. In many cases, their symptoms are fairly similar to a sever rabies infection (though, the 28 Days Later series is one of the rare cases where the infection is, explicitly, a variant of rabies.) This also includes cases where the infection is from a parasite (many of the later Resident Evil games and of course The Last of Us are examples of this.) In these cases, destroying the brain stem (and, for that matter, destroying the brain) should be effective. The zombie is still propelled by using their nervous system. There's a bit of an exception in cases where the infection creates a second, parallel, nervous system in the victim, which can operate independently of the victim's original.
Living zombies became more popular in the 90s, and were extremely frequent in the mid-2000s. Most horror films that try to downplay the supernatural component, or look to play up the bio-hazardous nature of zombies, is likely to use some variant of these. (As mentioned earlier, a lot of these tend to behave like mutant strains of rabies. And, while it might sound like I'm being flippant here, rabies is a pretty terrifying virus.)
Living zombie apocalypses are, basically, impossible. There's the usual problem of asking how did the zombies actually get to critical mass? But even beyond that, eventually the infected would simply start dropping as their bodies decayed and the victims died. They'd still be a bio-hazard, but you wouldn't see waves of the undead pressing against the defenders' barricades.
If you want a much more detailed breakdown of the biology of various critters in pop culture (including a lot of zombies), Roanoke Gaming on YouTube is an excellent reference.
The other variety of zombie are far more rare in pop culture, and these are the actual revenants. Either they've been raised by some necromancer, or they're returning due to some other factor. Critically, these zombies are, truly, undead. Shooting them in the head might take it apart, but it's also quite likely that won't put them (back) down, as they're not actually using their original nervous system for anything meaningful. These kinds of zombies are far more threatening. In theory, things like extreme cold would cause further damage to these, but if the necromantic forces animating them don't care about the condition of the zombie, then having fingers or toes freeze off in cold weather, or setting them on fire, might not have the desired effects. You may need to resort to fully dismembering the corpses to get them to stop trying to kill you. (Note that these don't have to be, strictly, supernatural. The Dead Space series remains an excellent example of a non-magical zombie apocalypse of this variety, with some extremely “creative” uses of dead biomass.)
In the case of reanimated zombies, firearms are not a particularly great option for putting them down in general. The damage they inflict simply isn't relevant to destroying the undead. Firearms are designed to poke holes in people and get their body to spring a leak, but if something is already dead, that's probably not going to matter unless you're using the gun to deliver some other kind of payload.
