The King’s Labyrinth (8)

Synopsis: Being the notorious trickster that he is, the King uses a film you've recently watched with the gods as inspiration for his latest entertainment. It doesn't help that Leon looks like the Goblin King… Putting the thirteen of you in the Labyrinth, it only takes a little mind persuasion to get everyone to cooperate.

Chapter 8: A Pseudo Happy Ending

“That was sufficiently entertaining. I have to thank you, human,” the King’s eloquent voice rang out in the empty space. “Tell me, (Name) (Last Name), what do you wish for as a reward?”

As I contemplated his question, I blinked. I didn’t really want anything other than to be back with my boyfriends who would remember who the heck I was. I also didn’t want to go through something like that again… “Send me home, please,” was my quiet request. It was all I’d been asking for. The following comment left my lips, “I’m tired…”

“Hm,” the King hummed, snapping his fingers to grant my request. “Sleep then, human. You’ll receive your due reward another time.”

Sleep was a peaceful thing, something I felt like I’d been missing out on for too long. Though it was a thing meant to regain energy, I couldn’t help but feel like I’d been stuck in the longest dream—something I was desperate to escape from.

Well… When I thought about it, I was trying to escape from something, wasn’t I? I recalled seeing the King of the Heavens, but beyond that, there wasn’t anything that really stood out to me. At least, until I thought about seeing my gods. Then I remembered the trouble I’d gone through the past 24 hours.

The only question bothering me was where were the gods now?!

Feeling too panicked to stay laying down, I shot up, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. Though, I wasn’t on my bed—I wasn’t on any bed at all, for that matter. I blinked furiously to straighten my vision, only seeing the mansion’s living room around me. Confused, I recalled being with Aigonorus before that whole dream started… or… was it a dream?

The sound of a page flipping made me divert my eyes to Huedhaut who was sitting alone on the opposite sofa, going through his Wishes work. It looked too normal of a scene considering he was a goblin just a few hours ago…

But my harsh staring seemed to have attracted his attention. His eyes flickered up to me. “You’re finally awake. Don’t you have anything you’d like to say to me?”

My eyes widened at suddenly being called out by him. I tried extremely hard to recall what he could have been talking about, but nothing was coming to mind. Wincing, I tried, “I… Uh… Good morning?”

“It’s afternoon,” Huedhaut sighed, his book settling on his lap. “Do you honestly have no idea what I’m talking about?”

“Uh…” I pursed my lips, my gaze trailing down to the floor. There’s no way we were on the same page now.

“That ridiculous drawing,” he suddenly pointed out, making me flinch. Though, he wasn’t overly harsh about it; it was still the first time any of the gods complained about a work of mine—even if it was just something I’d done as a joke. “If you ever find it humorous to draw me in such a way again, I will tell Zyglavis about what you’ve done.”

“W- What?” Now I was confused. What could I have possibly drawn to make him threaten me with telling Zyglavis?! What was he going to tell Zyglavis?! Surely, there was no way we were both talking about the same drawing of the gods as little green goblins! If he was then wasn’t he overreacting? Slowly, I pointed out, “You’re… pretty mad right now. Um… Is it safe… to ask what you’re talking about?”

His glare told me no, it wasn't safe at all to ask. Though, before he could proceed to tell me off, a new god entered the room. However, seeing Teorus didn't make me feel any more comforted. It turned out he had a similarly displeased expression. Pouting, he complained, “You're awake now that it's all over, huh?”

I certainly wasn't used to being the center of attention—negatively, anyway. “Ah… I'm kinda scared to ask… Is it that bad?”

“You,” Scorpio snapped, making me flinch. It was bad enough I had the Wishes gods on my case, but the Punishment gods were a different and scarier story! “You have some damn nerve.”

It wasn't safe for my health to ask Huedhaut or Teorus, but it especially wouldn’t be good to ask Scorpio. Why were they all so peeved with me? As far as I was aware, I saved them from playing the King’s wicked game. Shouldn't they have been thanking me?

Almost as if attracted to my horrible predicament, a few other gods joined the gathering in the living room, though I was sure it would only lead to more trouble. It surprised me when Aigonorus only had one calm request for me, “You need to stop drawing.”

I faltered. “W- What…?” Just the other night Aigonorus was praising my hard work and even laughing along with me, telling me how weird I was. This sudden change in attitude wasn’t something I was expecting. “Where did that come from?” Was my art so horrible that even the gods had enough of me?

Averting his gaze from me, he admitted, “Your drawings are dangerous. After you showed me that drawing you did of everyone, it became real. Either that… or we all shared the same dream…” He paused, squinting his eyes. “No… That’s not it. Your drawing just became real.”

“I have the answer to that,” Zyglavis said, his eyes narrowed in annoyance. He seemed to wear a similarly displeased expression as everyone else. Why did everyone seem to know what was going on except me and Aigo? His gaze laser focused on me, he asked, “Do you recall what you did with that particular drawing of yours?”

“Uh…” Hesitantly, I shrugged my shoulders. “I, uh, didn’t do anything illegal.”

Huedhaut hummed, a thought coming to him, “Perhaps it should be. If we were to create a set of ‘laws’ for you to follow, ‘Do not, under any circumstance, collaborate with the King’ would be the first law on the list.”

With all of their eyes pointedly on me, a cold shiver ran down my spine, making me tense up under their scrutiny. “You’ve got this all wrong,” I argued, trying to defend myself. The last thing I wanted was for them to think I’d sell them out to the highest bidder! “I didn’t go to him with any wild ideas or anything! He came to me and asked to see my work! W- What am I supposed to do? I can’t just tell the King no!”

“You’re a fickle little goldfish,” Leon argued, lounging into his chair. Part of me was relieved that he was also back to his usual self, though I didn’t appreciate him also joining their attack against me. “You had no problem telling me no. I was a King in your little fantasy world, wasn’t I? As far as I’m aware, you were fully aware of who we were and where we were.”

“That’s different,” I desperately denied. It wasn’t like I had a choice! I couldn’t just agree to stay with him in that world of his. “I was trying to get us home.” Taking in his relaxed way of teasing me, I shot back, “What about you? If you had it your way I’d be stuck in that castle with you and all the other gods would still be goblins! If anything, they should be mad at you, not me. You’re the one who wasn’t listening to me when I was trying to get you to send us home!”

Now he was interested in the little tiff I was having with the other gods. It didn’t seem to be a problem before I dragged his pride through the dirt. I almost regretted speaking my opinion with the dangerous way his eyes were glimmering. The corner of his lips curled up. “You look frightened.”

I groaned, shutting my eyes in anticipation for what was to come. It wasn’t fair that they were all upset with me. “It’s not fair I’m getting ganged up on like this. Can’t you guys have a little mercy? I ran an entire Labyrinth to get everyone home…”

Aigonorus was the first to nod his head and agree. He was there to witness most of it, after all. “That took too long… I’m really tired from following you all over. You should sleep with me as an apology.”

“M- Me?” I stuttered. Not that I was against the idea of sleeping with him, but he was accusing the wrong person, yet again! “Aigo, Leo made you chase me around the labyrinth like that. Why do I have to apologize for something he was making you do?!”

“Let me guess,” Karno added, equally miffed with me. “Leo must also be the reason behind why the King chose to trap us in that game and turn us into unsavory creatures meant to hurt you.”

“Uh…” I faltered, avoiding his gaze. He was getting a little too specific there. “Please stop making me feel like I’m in the doghouse… I didn’t tell anyone to turn anyone into goblins!” Pouting, I accused them, “What do you want from me? You’re clearly trying to make me feel guilty for something!”

Simply put, Huedhaut answered my question, “An apology. You’ve yet to apologize for the trouble you’ve caused us and here you are trying to push the blame onto Leo who only watched your movie with you. He didn’t entertain the King with foolish ideas.”

I blinked, staring at Huedhaut in confusion. Was that really all they were looking for? I looked away skeptically. There was no way that was going to be the end of this. They never ganged up on me for something as simple as an apology. My eyes narrowed as I looked back at Huedhaut. Cautiously, I did as he requested, “Well… I’m sorry? Sorry for… uh… talking to the King? Aaaaand sorry for pointing out things Leo did?” Earning a sharp glare, I quickly corrected myself, “Alright, I’m sorry, I’m sorry. He didn’t know what he was doing. Just like Teo would never have knocked Aigo in the head, and Lou never would’ve aimed an arrow at me, and-”

“I’m confiscating your ipad.”

That singular sentence from Zyglavis made me freeze, my eyes locking onto him. “No… No, no, no! I’m sorry! I’m so, so, so sorry! I won’t ever let the King see my art again! I won’t make you watch quirky movies with me anymore! Please, don’t take away my only sanity on Earth!”

He was clearly avoiding meeting my gaze, knowing he would give into my pleading otherwise. Instead, he pointed out, “Humans are all the same. If I don’t show you that there are consequences to your actions then you won’t learn.”

It tempted me to ask him if he was my mother or something, but I didn’t want to dig myself an even deeper grave. He was worse than a mother—he was the minister of the department of punishments. Curse his ability to know exactly where to strike! Pressing my hands together in a pleading motion, I tried again, “No, I did learn. I promise I learned my lesson!” Before I could rush over and latch onto Zyglavis to plead my case, an arm wrapped around me preventing me from going anywhere. Despite how Krioff was holding me back, it didn’t stop my cries, “Please! Ziggy, don’t do this to me!” At a loss of what to do, my hands helplessly landed atop my head as a sign of my distress. “What am I even getting punished for? None of this was my fault!”

Leon stared pointedly at me. “Don’t collaborate with the King.”

“I’m sorry,” I tried to insist, though they were just brushing off my apologies at that point. “I didn’t mean to make the King play with you like that! C’mon, you’re gonna make me sad. What can I do to make things right? You’re not gonna cold-shoulder me forever, are you?” There was no way they had the heart to do that to me. But they were gods and their determination was pretty strong. But… it was nothing against… my tears! My lips formed a pout as tears welled in my eyes. I dramatically whined, “Ooh, that’s it! It’s all over! You all hate me!”

“What… Uh… (Name),” Karno hesitated on how to address me, his hand resting gently on my back. “We don’t hate you. It’s just a punishment. Aren’t you overreacting?”

My head hung even lower at his question. “Our relationship is doomed… I’ve shoved everyone away with my careless actions… In the face of being coerced by the King, I’m estranged and ostracized by my loved ones…”

Huedhaut inclined his head, his eyebrows furrowing together in disbelief. “Now, where are you getting this vocabulary?”

“My emotional wounds,” I answered, my voice cracking. My shoulders sagged as if to display my physical anguish. “It’s fine I’ll… banish myself to the most dreary part of the mansion… outside!” Brushing off Karno’s hand and turning to leave, I was suddenly stopped by a firm hand around my wrist. Apparently there was a collective sigh that signified they were relieved someone stopped me from leaving.

A yelp left my lips as they yanked me back. My face mushed uncomfortably into someone’s chest before I heard Krioff muttering from above me, “You’re not goin’ anywhere. Here-” I felt my ipad slip back into my arms before I was smushed right back into his chest, his arms firmly wrapped around me. “Don’t ever say we hate you—we love you—and don’t ever think we’re lettin’ you leave us. No matter how many times you screw up, our relationship isn’t over.”

“Krioff…” I quickly covered up a snort of laughter, pressing my face further into his chest.

Unfortunately, he still managed to hear it. “What was that?”

“A- A sniffle,” I quickly excused, trying to make sure he didn’t pull away so I could hide the mischievous grin that crossed my face. To verify my excuse, I made a louder sniffle. “I- I’m sorry. I’m a little emotional right now. The fact that I’m not hated in this mansion makes me so ha-happy…!” I lost myself in a fit of airy laughter, that I quickly had to cover-up with fake sobs as I gasped for air. The only thing saving me was the deadly grip I had on his jacket. “I’m sorry!”

“It’s okay, (Name),” Ichthys tried to support me, his hand patting my head. “You don’t have to cry. We know the King was just using you. Geez, good thing we never let them catch you doing pranks with me. You’d never survive those punishments if you can’t handle this.”

“You don’t have to cry so much,” Scorpio commented, indicating his discomfort when it came to someone crying in front of him. Only I froze, tensing up in apprehension as his hand landed on my shoulder. The both of us fell silent, and I held my breath. “You stupid goldfish!” I flinched as Scorpio twisted the back of my shirt in his fist, yanking me out of Krioff’s arms. “You think this shit is funny?!”

Immediately, I screamed in retaliation, “You’re the ones who started emotionally blackmailing me first and I don’t even know what for!”

Though, apparently the room wasn’t filled with as much tension as I thought there was. Ichthys started cracking up laughing at the look on Scorpio’s face. “That was genius! You should see the looks on your faces!” Grinning widely, he snapped his fingers, and I appeared in his waiting arms. “For a great prank like that I have to help you out of trouble.”

“Ichthys,” Zyglavis called after my partner in crime. “Come back here!”

Regardless of what trouble I caused thanks to the King, Ichthys was sticking to his word. Besides, even he liked the games the King played. So, it was safe to say that I was in good hands and safe from further scolding from the other gods—well… for now.

Stray Kids with an S/O who is a huge horror movie fan

disclaimer: this is as always just my opinion :)

a/n: as a huge horror movie fan myself, I had to write this! enjoy!🩷

Chan:

As he said before, it's not like he's scared of horror movies, he just doesn't think they're interesting to watch. But, you're interesting to him and he loves you so he will definitely try for you. He also thinks he won't get scared cause 'nothing scares him' but oh boy was he wrong. You have to promise him extra cuddles because he's not gonna be able to fall asleep that night. Will also try to dissect the plot with you after the movie, and try to find meaning in the story just so it's less scary to him.

If he was never really invested into the horror genre, you could show him the classics like The Shining(1980), The Omen(1976), The Amityville Horror (1979), Psycho(1960) and then also some newer iconic movies like Get Out(2017), The Ring(2002), Sinister(2012), Hereditary(2018) and The Conjuring(2013).

Minho:

Loves it. Loves to try and scare you while you're watching a movie together. At first, you're so happy that you can share your love for horror with your significant other. And you know he really doesn't like jumpscares, so you try to find movies that don't have many of those. But if they do and Minho predicts a jumpscare, he'll grab you at the same time it's happening, making you jump out of your skin even though you saw the movie already. You kinda start regretting watching horror movies with him because he annoys you on purpose. He thinks you're so adorable when you're mad at him, but he wont push too far and he'll always make it up with cuddles and kisses later. Overall, 10/10 experience.

I feel like he'd watch almost any horror movie cause he's a curious cat (hehe) and you'd both share your favorites.

I don't know why, but I also feel like Minho would appreciate good old silent horror movies. I just think if he's a horror fan he may enjoy seeing the roots of horror. Like The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari(1920), Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde(1920), The Phantom Carriage(1921), Nosferatu(1922) and Häxan(1922).

Changbin:

I don't think he's too scared of them but I think he doesn't really care for them too much? Though, if you have some interesting thriller or detective movies to recommend he will definitely wanna watch them with you. I think Changbin likes a movie that has an intelligent story with a plot twist. He likes to guess what's gonna happen next and when he's actually right he'll be so happy and proud. He'll keep talking about how he guessed the plot and how smart he is and how you have to give him extra cuddles now. Either way, you're cuddling and snacking the whole time while watching and it's just nice and cozy.

I think he'd enjoy thrillers like The Game(1997), Fracture(2007), The Machinist(2004), The Double(2013), Shutter Island(2010), Zodiac(2007) and 1408(2007).

Hyunjin:

Miss him with that shit cause he ain't watching it unless you manage to coax him into it. It's gonna take a lot of persuading until he finally gives in but you have to be careful in choosing the right movie for Hyunjin. He doesn't like loud noises and he doesn't really like to feel scared. He'd rather watch something for the story, especially if it's an emotional one, and he also likes character driven stories.

I think he could watch artsy or slow creepy movies that are more drama-like but have elements of horror like Pan's Labyrinth(2006), Dark Water(2005), Windchill(2007), It Follows(2014), The Eyes Of My Mother(2016), I'm Thinking Of Ending Things(2020) and Case 39(2009).

Jisung:

Okay, with this one you can go crazy. Any weird horror movie, anything kinda disturbing, deranged or unhinged will be right up his ally. As a horror and anime fan himself, he's seen some pretty weird stuff so experiment, I guess. I also feel like he'd like fun horror movies, idk how to explain but ones that are disturbing but fun at the same time, like you can't look away even though you're looking at a train wreck.

Movies like Funny Games(2007), The Ruins(2008), Suspiria(1977), The Perfection(2018), Perfect Blue(1997), May(2002), Audition(2000), Saw franchise and Terrifier series would be fun for him. Also, since he mentioned Paranormal Activity, found footage horror movies would be fun to watch with Jisung too like Creep(2014), REC(2007), Unfriended(2015) and Cloverfield(2008).

Felix:

This is just not happening unless you can bribe him with cookies, gummies or any other sweets and ofcourse many cuddles and kisses, even more than you share usually. You'll have to practically beg him to watch a horror movie with you or make some kind of compromise that you'll participate in some activity he likes more than you later. He's not gonna sleep all night if you make him watch anything too scary, actually he wouldn't even be watching that. He'd probably be hidden in your neck the whole time and even the creepy sounds coming from the tv will give him nightmares.

The only way to make him watch horror movies is if they're mixed with comedy or they're so bad that they're funny. Like the Scream franchise, The Cabin In The Woods(2011), What We Do In The Shadows(2014), The Happening(2008), Tucker & Dale vs. Evil(2010), Housebound(2014) and ofcourse zombie comedies like One Cut Of The Dead(2017) and Shaun Of The Dead(2004).

Seungmin:

Kind of indifferent towards the scares but I think he gets annoyed with plot holes and characters acting stupid. Rolls his eyes at every over used trope or cliche sentence. You actually end up laughing while watching horror movies with him because he's too cute when he's annoyed.

"How is this killer still alive? He's been run over by a truck ten times, this is stupid!" or "Okay but why is he going towards the sound? Is he that dumb, he's gonna die!"

He does like dry humor though so he'd like some black comedy movies with horror elements like American Psycho(2000), Parasite(2019), The Lobster(2015), The Menu(2022) but also if you want to annoy him on purpose (because he's cute when he gets worked up) show him slashers like the Halloween franchise, Friday the 13th franchise and Black Christmas(2019).

Jeongin:

With Jeongin, I feel like it can go either way and it definitely depends on the theme of the movie. Also, he will probably try to act brave in front of you (until he jumps at a loud sound and then gets embarassed). For some reason I don't have an exact subgenre of horror for him but for some reason I feel like he'd like newer horror movies like Us(2019), Nope(2022), Last Night In Soho(2021), His House(2020), Host(2020), The Invisible Man(2020) and Fear Street film series.

Synopsis: An anthropology of famous stories from around the world retold through the lens of legendary and lesser known anime, with modern twists, turns, and lessons about. From the depths of the sea in DBZ: Waves of Freedom (The Little Mermaid) to the realm beyond the clouds in One Piece: Beyond The Sky (Jack and The Beanstalk), this ever expanding treasury of tales has something for everyone.

Framing Device: An anime loving teenager is telling classic fairytales to the kids they babysit as bedtime stories- with a twist!

Side Note: Nursery Rhymes being adapted is more for Shrek. So they won’t be here- sorry about that. But they do a good job at it. This anthology is meant for readers 12 and up, due to some of the themes in some of the stories.

yes give me the tatsumi rant

god okay so like we know Tatsumi is Christian it's a pretty important part of his character that he is like in his first feature scout story he mentions that he wanted to wear his father's vestments but was scolded for it because they are something that you have to be serious about like this is the most obvious thing anyone would know by looking at Tatsumi.

HOWEVERRRRRR since a lot of Western fans only really think of Christianity as like. Southern Baptist/Mormonism/Jehovah's Witnesses/Extreme Catholicism and like yeahhhhhh those sects are not Great but that's not all there is to Christianity as a religion. I went to an Episcopal service a few weeks ago and it was very fascinating how different it was to the Southern Baptist youth group I attended as a child. But Tatsumi does not follow any sort of American Protestant denomination because he doesn't fucking live here. He's a religious minority in his own country holy fucking shit.

Anyway there is ample evidence within even what has been officially translated that Tatsumi is a chill guy. In the current gacha story Ushimairi pt. 2 we get to see his first interactions with Koga right after moving in and he's literally.

They're chill!!! They're chill and they get along just fine. Koga asks about if Tatsumi thinks dogs are dirty because of his religion right after this and Tatsumi explains that it was because of the historical context and that stray dogs had rabies which is a completely valid reason to not want to like. Interact with dogs, but it's completely fine now because most dogs aren't walking around with rabies!!!

He's also stated that he believes he's going to hell before and that he's accepted that fact but he still believes in God anyway (and he has a conflict of faith later on where he debates if he even still believes or not). He would not be a bigot he wants to accept everyone as they are that's literally why he had the fucking revolution at Reimei over his belief in equality. Goes insane.

Anyway I haven't read most Tatsumi stories I stated in my last post I do not actually care about him all that much because he doesn't appeal to me as a character but mischaracterization on this level drives me up the wall like we are not reading the same stories we are not playing the same game clearly.
