A love letter about Ocean Blvd (JSI + Zodiac)

Although l've shown my love to the Judah Smith Interlude through a post before, I think it's time to give my further opinions on it. Many people don't like it, as the things talked about in the interlude itself are coming from a preacher (why many find it unsettling), but many dismiss its value to Lana herself.

And although it's uncomfortable to sit through, DYKTATUOB is very personal and it's there for a reason. (I feel like people often forget that)

And to those saying Zodiac should've taken its place on the album, it's alleged that it was going to be switched with Candy Necklaces if placed on it. No, I am not saying you’re not allowed to hate on it, but to acknowledge its presence and purpose to Lana.

p.s. I personally believe that Lana thought Zodiac might be viewed as too sensitive or triggering since it's about a real case. Perhaps why she chose Candy Necklaces in its place in the album.

As beautiful as Zodiac is and how well it could’ve fit the overall themes of the album, DYKTATUOB was for Lana herself, along with her thoughts, memories, and experiences.

(Which I think is why we get the Judah Smith Interlude)

happy lunar new year

my mum saw me cry and she kept asking me what happened

how do i tell her nothing did. i just lost my airpods and lunar new years' coming and i need to clean my house and i can't find it in myself to do any of it, anything at all. nothing happened, everything just bursted out of me without warning and suddenly you caught me red-handed as tears fall. you accept i'm not talking and we go downstairs for a few drinks. im a kid and drank cider with 3.4% alcohol and you laughed, pouring korean takju into your glass, filling a chuen hup we've had since i was 2 with chocolates and pistachios.

i remember lunar new years as this exciting new start as a child, i would be so ecstatic to see my cousins again, finally. i would wear my red dress or qipao and bring a little purse for the hongbaos. i would beg you to do my nails or braid my hair so grandma could take a good look at her pretty little granddaughter, all dolled up. and now, not even a decade later, i'm crying on lunar new years eve, red puffy as i type. how do i tell you everything just bursted out of me without warning and i've been on auto-pilot for the last eight weeks, forcing myself to grab a toothbrush and a water bottle. how do i tell you i've been crying on a bus. how do i tell you i've never really been okay and everything's spilling out now.
