It's been six zero days since I last saw this canonically Jewish character depicted with a cross

andre answering his home phone and having to hear the worst news he’s ever received in his life.

cal committed. he didn’t wait until zero day. he didn’t warn andre. he didn’t do it with andre.

when andre hears the news, he drops the phone, listening to the plastic break as it hits the floor. he looks at the kitchen table, in his back pack, and in his jacket, but he cannot find his keys anywhere. fuck it. andre opens the door and begins running to the gabriel house.

his legs are sore from track and workouts, but andre can’t feel them. he feels like he’s flying. he’s getting too close to the sun, burning and burning until his wings completely melt.

when he gets to the gabriel house, about eleven blocks from the kriegman house, cal’s siblings are sat in the yard with some police officers while his parents are stood in each other’s arms while talking to another officer. his mom looks destroyed. his dad keeps glancing at the front door, waiting and hoping for his oldest son to stand up and walk out, begging for this entire thing to be a joke.

andre runs past them; he pushes officers away from him and almost punches one square in the nose. he makes it into the house and into the hallway that holds cal’s room. he can see inside. there is blood everywhere. cal’s face is destroyed.

despite all the destruction, andre swears he can feel cal’s heart beating, even from a distance. he feels it in the floor, in his chest, and in his head. he can hear it louder than his own heart.

after all of his running, andre collapses. his knees hit the ground with such force that they might break. he curls into himself, holding himself in an embrace that is impossibly tight.

the only things that stay still are andre’s eyes. everything else is moving around him and he’s shaking, but his eyes are still trained on the boy on the ground in front of him. the sight burns itself into andre’s brain. andre begs himself to look away, even clawing at his cheeks, but he genuinely cannot. it is horrifying.

in the moment, no one knows that andre will soon follow cal’s fate. they don’t know that the boys will share a wake. they don’t know that they will be buried next to each other only days apart.

Top 8 Things Calvin Has Put In His Mouth

Those 25 Cent Bouncy Balls- He thought they looked like gummies so he popped one in his mouth and chewed on it. He said it felt like a harder gummy and even insisted it had a fruity taste to it. (It did not. It was all in his head).

Andres Pencil- Sometimes Cal forgets to bring a pencil or loses his so he asks to borrow one from Andre. He always ends up chewing on it and it annoys Andre so much. He just let's Cal keep it because he doesn't want his "Cooties"

The liner of a cupcake- Whenever Cal gets a cupcake he ends up stuffing the wrapper in his mouth because of the leftover cupcake stuck to the wrapper. It's a 50/50 whether he'll spit it out of swallow it.

A Plastic Fork-He just kind of chews on plastic forks. He likes to either bite the prongs off or just chew on the fork.

Barbie Hands- While he's playing dolls with his sister and he just finds a stray hand in his room and he just chews on it. He just does it without thinking. He just loves chewing plastic

Perler Beads- Whenever Cal would make perler bead art he would chew on one because it felt like he was chewing on gum with no flavor. One time when he was with Andre he was chewing on one (even though Andre warned him not to) and started choking on it. He ended up swallowing it and Andre made fun of him because he told him so.

Plastic Straws- He likes folding up the straw in his mouth and he just kind of likes chewing on it and using his tongue to tie it into a knot

Andre- Do with this what you will.

Yall, I've seen enough people talking about Cal having an ed, but did we ever think it could be Rachel?

We know what kind of blogs were around at the time. You know, the ones that contained "Ana" and "mia" in the title or in the full page. The so called "diets" that consisted and promoted not eating anything or barely anything in weeks. And we know that, ed's are more common in females.

Also, this was the fucking ideal body every woman wanted to have at the time:

We're all familiar with the term "thigh gap", right?

And Rachel, being semi popular and hanging out with Cal, which is not a good fucking influence, having popular girl friends, bulimia being common at the time and the easiness in finding those blogs could led to her having an ed.

I mostly think it would be bulimia.

(This made me think about the three girls in elephant, you know which ones)

(I don't really headcanon this, but this makes more sense to me than the "anorexic and bulimic Cal!" agenda)

Thank you to @jus-a-lil-mouse for the joke on the second shirt, it's the alternate because "in fiction" it wouldn't make sense, but it did make me laugh real hard in real life, so I had to do it

cal having depersonalization-derealization disorder.

throughout zero day, we observe cal zoning out, hesitating, or not understanding certain places or things. in the final words and when they’re building the pipe bombs, he stares at the ground a lot. he seems as if he’s trying to ground himself, to make sure everything is real around him. when he’s making his own tapes, he has weird pauses between his words in unnatural places. he also struggles to understand the consequences of his actions and how to read certain events like in the poetry scene or how he acted before and after prom.

a very significant moment is right before zero day when andre tells cal he couldn’t have done this with anyone else. cal takes almost a minute to fully answer him and his eyes are transfixed on the gun he’s loading. he even messes up the wording. the entire time we see cal, it’s like he’s in a dream.

while these things by themselves don’t seem like much, they paint a picture when joined together. cal doesn’t see himself as a real human. he struggles with seeing other people and things as real. it’s part of what gives him the grandiose ideas that allowed him to plan for zero day. he mentions how people used to duel in the past and the “code of the samurai.” nothing he says is in relation to himself or to his surroundings.

cal thinks of himself as an entity, of something greater than matter and greater than gravity. he is something he can’t touch. he is something that can’t relate to the world around him. he is so detached that he cannot touch the ground.

last post got me thinking, what are cal and andre’s drink preferences?

i know drinking culture is incredibly different in america, you don’t see as many drunk kids over that side of the pond, but also - i might just be scottish. anyway, i have very specific headcanons about what those two neeerdssss enjoy under the cut

cal

- cal likes strong shit. doesn’t matter the taste, if it gets him drunk, he’s drinking it.

- vodka, jaegermeister, unironically quite enjoys wine

- prefers white/rosé wine, and usually drinks it from the bottle. glasses are too dainty

- midday vodka redbull is essential

- " im not an alcoholic i just enjoy the finer things " level denial

- fucking hates beer and will only drink it if he’s DEPRESSED depressed

- also cannot stand gin! will not touch gin under any circumstances, thinks it’s evil, calls it gods greatest mistake etc. that boy takes his gin hating seriously

- masterful at taking shots. like does it with the grace of a swan

- king of mixers. once drank jaegermeister infused mtn dew

andre

- fairly different to cal, cares a lot about the taste, and doesn’t give a shit about how strong what he’s drinking is

- beer man, through and through. doesn’t trust much else

- dislikes doing shots, vodka burns his throat, but doesn’t mind a shot of sambuca every now and then. he’s fucking awful at doing it though, always coughs or chokes or something daft

- specifically a big fan of red stripe and coors. real dad beer

- sometimes enjoys a whiskey and coke, but like.. super rarely. really needs to be in a specific mood

- hates wine. REALLY hates white wine. thinks cal is weird for drinking it so much

- doesn’t drink often

- also hates gin, just not on the same level as cal
