One of the things I loved in the weeks after TLOVM came out was when the cast made a point of listening to the other language dubs and complimenting the voice actors who did them. I actually rewatched season 1, alternating between the languages I know a bit, and they were just as good as promised.

It made me think that what I'd love for the M9 show (but don't expect, because I'm sure he doesn't have time) is if Liam were to play Caleb in the German dub, and have German Zemnian be New Jersey English.

It would change early Caleb's comfort with Common a little, but I think it would be amazing, and get lots of Critters watching that one.

Essek learns Zemnian secretly for Caleb and was planning to use it to confess his love but instead Caleb gets hurt and Essek is tired and they've run out of healing potions and he's clumsily patching Caleb up and they're arguing about Caleb taking better care of himself and all of a sudden he's muttering in Zemnian "you fucking idiot little man" and Caleb is gawking and then Caleb is laughing and then Caleb is kissing him

I know that mechanically Beau doesn't speak Zemnian (at least not until level 13) but also she was educated by an archivist-spy institution based out of rexxentrum she definitely has like. A mandatory-high-school-spanish-class knowledge of Zemnian. Like she may not have been paying attention but they absolutely would've required at least a reading knowledge I know she can say donde está la biblioteca

Given that the creative team of TLOVM hired linguists to construct a realistic Marquesian language model, I've been wondering how they'll handle languages in TM9 with a main character like Caleb

I am always thinking about Brennan's comment in the latest WBN fireside, about how a lot of GM word choices in their descriptions at least are intended to be evocative and not literal (for more context see Taylor Moore, sound designer and editor, despairing here) and I've made a similar argument in the past about accents - that an RP accent, for example, isn't specifically intended to mean "all people who have this are from the same place" but rather "all people who have this are of a certain class and education level."

With that said, with the names "Caeluma" and "Vaterra" and their clear Latin roots (and, frankly, the use of "Imperium" rather than "Empire") Matt could simply be evoking antiquity and, well, empire; but this could also indicate that at one point the lingua franca of Ruidus was closer to that of Aeorian (Latinate) than Common (modern English), either because of a shared history from when Ruidus was taken from Exandria, or because those were the dreams they were experiencing. (For that matter - was Aeorian, or a precursor, once the equivalent of Common on Exandria?)

Thinking forever about the fond way King and Caleb call each other Magic Man and Circus Man. Tealeaf calling out for his Magician, and Caleb making the most guttingly longing and heartbroken expression, because he just missed him so much and didn't really think Molly would remember him...

Caleb referring to him as a stray he's happy to take in. Both of them calling each other good boy. Molly being someone who will drop endearments like dear and darling. Just. Thinking of how sweet and ridiculous they are whenever they're flirting, and the kind of pet names they'd use if they got together--
