Post accident, my daily asana has consisted of forcing my injured body into full blown, active practices. It is painful. I know this. But hey, I am on the mat every day as a good student should. I am rising above, overcoming, bouncing back. Right? No. If you intentionally punish and seek to harm the body, Yoga is lost. Ahimsa applies to Self too. The last week, I halted my stubbornness and adapted. Gentle, yin, restorative. Ego attempts to convince me to push harder, that I am not doing enough, and hissing that my body must stay fit. Fear races to drown me... and sometimes these weary lungs falter. Yet always my breath lovingly lifts me again. You have permission to ease up, find balance. Recovery is a process, a practice of patient self care. It cannot be rushed. Give the body and soul space. Choose love. 14/1/19 - YWA Dedicate day 13
I can still see that I'm not at 100% - my heart rate usually never gets into the fat burn zone with yoga (which is okay since that's not why I'm doing it). I find it quite interesting to see the effects of being sick so clearly!
Anyway, today's session was really enjoyable, I like exercises to create space a lot 😊.

You might remember me mentioning back at the start of the year that I was starting a 30 day yoga challenge? Well, I’m quite proud to say that I completed the whole darn thing! Not only that, I’ve carried on practising yoga almost every day afterwards (minus the 4 days it took my legs to recover after climbing Cadair Idris!)
It’s fascinating how I’ve noticed a positive change in my mental well being during this time.  Now I’m not saying that if you get on a yoga mat that you’ll suddenly be enlightened or anything, but the thoughts and ideas discussed during the practice are very transferable into everyday life.
I’ve also tried yoga in the past and given it up shortly after, never really feeling the connection to it that everyone else seemed to have. Do check out Yoga With Adriene on YouTube (it’s free!) if you want to give yoga a try. It’s via her channel that yoga seems to have really stuck this time. She’s so cute as well, and it’s nice just to have someone say positive things to you every day!
The February calendar on Adriene’s YouTube channel is all about Self Care, and boy is that something I really need to learn!

I've done 3 days of YWA's Dedicate course now, and even though I've been under the weather I've felt amazing after each one. I never thought I'd enjoy exercise when ill?! Yoga is amazing. I am so up for doing this every day of 2019.

I've done basically no running in the last week because of the weather and my schedule, but I did finish Adrienne's January challenge (just 2 days late) and started her February playlist which is focused on self-care. I tend to suck at actually doing the stretching/yoga/mobility work I say I'm going to, so having suggestions/structure like that helps me stick to it.

#ywadedicate Day 10-Expand. It was kind of hard getting myself on the mat today, but as always, I’m glad I did. A mental barrier I had was my lifelong conditioning that it’s not okay to take up space, and I think this is one that I will revisit to help me unlearn that type of thinking.

I woke up today, and everything felt off. My body and my heart were heavy. I had no energy for the day despite a full night's rest. Breakfast felt like garbage in my mouth, and I did everything I could to avoid the mat. It only got worse when my person took his frustration toward another out on me... Eventually I decided I wouldn't let these things hold me back. I wouldn't let them come between me and my commitment to my practice and myself. I got on that mat and completed the second day on my journey. It was tough. I knew my head wasn't in it, but my body thanked me for rediscovering my foundations. It's a long road ahead, but I refuse to give up.

🌺 What a Yoga day! 🌺 Today was the last day of #ywadedicate and wow it was kinda awesome. It felt pretty amazing realizing that I did 30 days of #yoga straight through. I'm really feeling stronger and more myself again. 💪🤩 I decided for my way of acknowledging this milestone, I recorded my whole yoga practice for today. My phone 📱 had other plans however and cut it off at like 16 minutes. Soooo... I dropped the resistance and loaded it up on my computer and edited it. It's so silly, it's nothing special, but I am going to upload it to Youtube when it's done rendering. 🤣🤣 This is one of those #vulnerability issues I'm working through. 😓 But it's also something I really want to do. I want to start putting together my own yoga flows, recording them, and sharing them on Youtube. Gotta #manifest a more powerful computer 💻 that can handle editing cuz mine is practically screaming at me for even attempting this. 😵 Tomorrow starts a new month and it's Imbolc! With the new year, Yule, and my car accident, the Universe pushes me to compassionately question why I do the things I do. Am I living in alignment with myself? Do I adhere to others’ visions and people please?
Humbling questions- ones we all cross eventually and must meet lovingly rather than angrily. The true power lies in what we do next.
Each day, nevermind each new year, there is a sacred opportunity to rest in the still center of our heart space. A welcoming chance to check in with the flow of our lives as they are in this moment.
I find myself craving release, wringing out what no longer serves, turning away from the screaming voices that want my conformity. I would rather live this life in my own wild way than become a doll on the shelf of another’s story.
Creating change does not mean we are broken or in need of becoming someone new. 27/1/19 - 13k run + YWA Dedicate day 25+26
New distance PR!!!
I've been wanting to go for a new distance PR for a while but I always had a reason not to do it (no time, my last long run had been too long ago, I didn't feel up to it ...). Today I decided, to hell with it, and went for it. It wasn't easy - I took a new route and had to walk a lot of hills - but I did it and enjoyed myself 😊. I saw some Icelandic ponies with their shaggy winter coat, so cute 🐎😍.
I haven't been very good about YWA Dedicate this week, so I did day 25 as a warm-up before the run and day 26 afterwards. My luck that day 26 had squats 😂. Also, I didn't manage those horizon lunges ... Oh well.
I plan to move as little as possible for the rest of the day 😛.
