I got the majority of this information from the YouTuber Annamarie Forcino's video "The Alarming "Gnome Hunting" Trend No One's Talking About". (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pf0bZOMuVFs)
This post is to help spread this information.
Please be aware:
• If you come across anything with the term "gnome hunting" or anything listed below online, block and report the account immediately. If you come across it offline, covertly and safely get the absolute fuck out of there. Warn others.
• Keep yourself safe. As with any bullshit like this these people may be violent. The wearing of tactical gear and the use of the word hunting when talking about a group of human beings is not peaceful or respectful of life. Exercise caution. Especially if you are in a group the groups they're in target.
• This is mostly on TikTok, DO NOT SEARCH FOR IT ON SITES WITH THE ALGORITHM. This will drive engagement and help it spread. If you come across it block and report it but do not search it.
The term "gnome hunting" is being used by antisemitists/neonazis/white supremacists to refer to themselves, they themselves being the "hunters" and those they target, Jews, being the "gnomes" and is a way for them to talk in code.
Things to watch out for with this specific wave of antisemitic bullshit are but are not limited to:
"join the hunt" = join us.
"millions wear the hats" millions = the Jews, hats = the Jewish Yarmulke/Kippah (a Jewish head covering). This phrase refers to Jewish people in general. When they use this phrase they are talking about Jews.
"kike" a slur against those of Jewish descent and or those who are practicing Judaism.
"88" H is the 8th letter of the alphabet. 88 = hh = "hail hitler".
"⚡⚡" "ᛋᛋ" "ϟϟ" Two lightning bolt emojis, two Greek letter ᛋ's, or two lighting bolt symbols side by side = the nazi ss. The nazi ss flag is two lighting bolt symbols side by side.
"Z" or "z" The English letter Z/z is used by russian nazis against Ukrainians who are being murdered by and suffering war crimes at the hands of russian nazis since the current russian dictator putin invaded Ukraine. Has unfortunately spread and is being used by nazis in other countries. The symbol has similarities to the wolfsangel.
"Ƶ" The wolfsangel. An ancient runic symbol believed to have been capable of warding off wolves, appropriated by nazi organizations in nazi Germany. Still used by white supremacists/nazis today.
(Cannot find a symbol for this.) The sunwheel, sonnenrad, or black sun. A symbol from old Norse and old Celtic culture. Also appropriated by nazis, still used by neonazis today.
"schizopost" "schizoposting" Used by neonazis when they use neurodivergence/mental illness (they do not struggle with) as an excuse for their bullshit. Ex: saying "I'm insane" "I'm schizophrenic" "me and the boys being schizophrenic" in the same post about "gnome hunting" or with any relation to nazi/white supremacists ideology.

okay okay everyone always talks about how a medieval peasant wouldn't survive seeing/knowing about [insert modern day thing] BUT have we considered the following: would horror movie actors survive scrolling through the tumblr tag of the movie(s) they were in?
this is not only testable with many of the subjects in question being alive, but also put any horror movie into the search bar (if it was made in the 80s or 90s the following is even more likely to be the case) and i guarantee you the first 15 posts will include murder man either as a cat boy or in a maid outfit (or both), the most passionate gay lovemaking between either two very queer-coded characters or the most queerphobic characters to ever exist, a 100k fanfic that is actually really good (and really gay and horny amen), a meme that is incomprehensible to anyone above the age of 45 y/o, someone having a mental breakdown over the grainiest behind the scenes photo you've ever seen, grotesque (affectionate) monster girls having brunch, and/or someone having a religious experience over the most gremlin little guy to ever live.
i say all of this with the utmost love and respect as part of the community. no villain is safe from uwu-ification and we will reach knee-deep into the plot to pull out queer subtext like we are mining for rare ores to trade at the market that will save our village from starving. and i think that's lovely.
the "[insert youtuber here] reacts to their tumblr tag" was a popular trend about 10 years ago but they're already living in-tandem with fandom/online culture so there was little to shock or awe them. give me 65 y/o joe actorman sitting in front of a computer and facing what millenials/gen z have crafted in reverence through a sleep deprived-induced haze. this test will separate the blorbos from the glupshitos.
anyway i think i accidentally took 2 of my adhd meds today uwu
#kaptainandy's log#this post was inspired by the re-animtor tag lmao#but fr 90% of horror fandom is this#ESPECIALLY if it's in dbd#everyone say thank you dbd for introducing a new audience to the classics#most of the iconic horror that came to mind when writing this post were from the 80s/90s with the exception of saw#so let me know of any post 1999 horror media with the same kind of community cuz it's fun lol#reanimator#re-animator#evil dead#scream franchise#halloween#nightmare on elm street#saw#saw franchise#horror#horror movies

Instagram
Instagram is highlighting “Views” in its metrics in an attempt to get creators to focus on reach instead of follower numbers.
Pinterest
Pinterest is testing outside ads on the site. The ad auction system would include revenue sharing.
Reddit
Reddit confirmed that anyone who wants to use Reddit posts for AI training and other data collection will need to pay for them, just as Google and OpenAI did.
Second quarter 2024 was great for Reddit, with revenue growth of 54%. Like almost every other platform, they are planning on using AI in their search results, perhaps to summarize content.
Threads
Threads now claims over 200 million active users.
TikTok
TikTok is now adding group chats, which can include up to 32 people.
TikTok is being sued by the US Federal Trade Commission, for allowing children under 13 to sign up and have their data harvested.

As of November, Patreon memberships started in the iOS app will be subject to a 30% surcharge from Apple. Patreon is giving creators the ability to add that charge to the member's bill, or pay it themselves.
ONLINE ADVERTISING (EXCEPT INDIVIDUAL SOCIAL MEDIA AND ECOMMERCE SITES)
Google worked with Meta to break the search engine’s rules on advertising to children through a loophole that showed ads for Instagram to YouTube viewers in the 13-17 year old demographic. Google says they have stopped the campaign, and that “We prohibit ads being personalized to people under-18, period”.
Google’s Performance Max ads now have new tools, including some with AI.
Microsoft’s search and news advertising revenue was up 19% in the second quarter, a very good result for them.
One of the interesting tidbits from the recent Google antitrust decision is that Amazon sells more advertising than either Google or Meta’s slice of retail ads.
BUSINESS & CONSUMER TRENDS, STATS & REPORTS; SOCIOLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY, CUSTOMER SERVICE
More than half of Gen Z claim to have bought items while spending time on social media in the past half year, higher than other generations.
Shopify’s president claimed that Christmas shopping started in July on their millions of sites, with holiday decor and ornament sales doubling, and advent calendar sales going up a whopping 4,463%.

teen boys/young men in your life very likely could be engaging in yet another “trendy” form of antisemitism and you all need to keep those fuckers in check. this post will 100% get shadowbanned due to the language so please reblog if you feel so inclined to share this information
major antisemitism content warning under the fold but please educate yourself if you don’t already know about “gnome hunting”
earlier this year a trending tag on tiktok popped up in the form of “gnome hunting” and multiple users posted warnings about how they were unknowingly engaging with antisemetic assholes by posting in the tag. the premise is that these users are “hunting gnomes” which actually means jewish people as well as other minority groups.
just today i noticed that youtuber annamarie forcino posted a video on the topic which prompted me to check and the trend does, in fact, still exist. if you want a fairly good discussion on the topic in under 11 minutes i recommend this video:
youtube
however annamarie is far from the first person to discuss this issue as there were articles circulating on it in april of this year and in early june i saw another report on it.
as the internet becomes more and more divided, social media sites stop encouraging information sharing, and even search engines try to silence actual issues it is important to stay up to date with issues surrounding dog whistles and hate speech.
it is always good to stay up to date with source lists of dog whistles such as this one from rainbow cafe and this one from the american jewish committee
if you don’t have the time or attention to read those links or watch annamarie’s video then i encourage you to make time to be an actual ally to people who are targeted by white supremacists however here are the highlights of what is actively being used in gnome hunter videos:
“millions wear the hats” (or variations on the term) - the trend is claiming to reference gnomes however this term is a reference to jewish men
gnome hunting - a term used to reference the trend itself and to refer to targeting jewish people for sport
referencing the number 88 i.e. 'i saw 88 gnomes yesterday' - this is code for common nazi phrasing
using two lightning bolt emojis - this is a code referring to the ss imagery on nazi jackets
references to replacement theory - this is a dog whistle to conspiracy against minorities “replacing” white people
references to slavic sigils and culture - again this is a common dog whistle at this point but tends to be going together with this trend
additionally those posting under this tag are claiming to have various mental health conditions such as schizophrenia, insanity, autism, and depression. this is also a form of protecting their posts and as a reminder mental health is never an excuse for white supremacy and it is always ethical to punch nazis
anyway if i royally fucked up this post please let me know and i will edit or repost it, from my knowledge of dealing with these topics this is about as thorough as i think i can or need to be on this for this post but i am happy to make changes to it as well or tag/tw differently if needed.

thinking about homogenization and that quote I read today posted by humans of New York that was like "you are a slut and a whore for the algorithm!!!!" and just about aesthetics again and I know I'm always complaining about fucking aesthetics but it's really disheartening how so many people don't understand that there is motivation behind certain fashion like not everything is about buzz words there is real motivation behind a lot of these subcultures and fashion, it is based on lived experiences! I'm not even gonna go into it because I'm supposed to be asleep but OMFGGGG
micro trends are giving ppl the illusion that they're doing something when they aren't they're clinging on to this idea that they're coming up with aesthetics when there is no motivation behind it all other than the fact you can get likes if you tag a photo a certain way.... I was watching a video by lipglossssssssss on YouTube about her pet peeves and she mentioned that a lot of ppl have no real identity when it comes to fashion and critiquing it and if alot of ppl got off the internet and actually bought what they liked they'd probably end up wearing something they would've called ugly on somebody else. and while styles have always been recycled there was always something new brought to the table? now it's just.... look to the past but don't look into the history because I want the feeling of coming up with something new.... and back to the bayonetta glasses shit this was called the miu miu glasses trend like MONTHS AGO now it's suddenly bayonetta glasses.... were at the point of recycling trends that aren't even a year old yet
the branding of identity is killing me too.. you can't just be sexy and wear glasses you're a fucking "office siren" you're a clean girl if you wear this you're a cinnamon girl if you do that like I wish ppl could find a better way of finding and building their identities than literally giving what they're into literal brand names like idk! capitalism is killing and ruining everything! everything feels like a Pinterest search results page!

10 Essential Digital Marketing Tips to Boost Your Business in 2024
In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, businesses of all sizes must stay up-to-date with the latest marketing strategies. The internet has changed the way consumers interact with brands, and as we approach 2024, mastering digital marketing will be more critical than ever. To help you stay competitive and drive meaningful results, here are 10 essential digital marketing tips that will elevate your business in the coming year.
1. Optimise for Voice Search
With the growing popularity of voice-activated devices like Amazon’s Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple’s Siri, voice search has become a key component of how people find information online. In fact, it's expected that over 50% of all searches will be voice-driven. Unlike traditional text-based searches, voice searches tend to be more conversational and long-tail.
To optimise your website for voice search, start by incorporating natural language into your SEO strategy. This means using question-based keywords that reflect how people speak, such as “Where can I find the best digital marketing tips?” Additionally, focus on featured snippets and providing concise, relevant answers, as these are often used by voice assistants to respond to queries.
2. Leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Your Campaigns
Artificial Intelligence is transforming the way businesses approach digital marketing. From chatbots to data analytics, AI enables companies to better understand customer behavior, predict trends, and create highly personalized marketing experiences. AI-driven tools can automate tasks like email segmentation, content recommendations, and customer service interactions, allowing businesses to save time while improving engagement.
For example, AI-powered chatbots can enhance customer experiences by providing instant responses to common inquiries, even outside of business hours. AI can also help businesses optimise their ad campaigns by analysing large amounts of data and suggesting improvements based on performance.
3. Prioritise Video Marketing
Video content is now an indispensable part of any digital marketing strategy. By 2024, it’s estimated that video will account for 82% of all online traffic. This makes video marketing one of the most effective ways to capture your audience’s attention. Whether it’s through YouTube, Instagram Stories, TikTok, or live streaming, video allows you to engage customers in ways that text or images simply can’t.
To maximise the impact of your video content, focus on creating short, engaging videos that are informative and entertaining. Live video is also becoming more popular, with platforms like Instagram and Facebook offering live streaming capabilities that allow you to interact with your audience in real-time. Demonstrating your products or services, hosting Q&A sessions, or sharing behind-the-scenes content can help build a more personal connection with your audience.
4. Collaborate with Social Media Influencers
Influencer marketing is no longer just a trend—it’s a powerful tool for businesses to increase brand awareness and drive conversions. By partnering with influencers who have a loyal following, you can leverage their credibility and reach new audiences. In 2024, micro-influencers (influencers with smaller, highly engaged audiences) are expected to play a more significant role, as they often have more authentic interactions with their followers compared to larger influencers.
When selecting influencers to collaborate with, ensure they align with your brand’s values and target demographic. Authenticity is key—today’s consumers can easily spot a partnership that feels forced or inauthentic. Focus on building long-term relationships with influencers rather than one-off promotions for more meaningful engagement.
5. Enhance User Experience (UX) on Your Website
User experience is central to the success of any digital marketing strategy. A poorly designed website can drive away potential customers and negatively impact your search engine rankings. Google places a strong emphasis on Core Web Vitals, which measure aspects like page load speed, interactivity, and visual stability.
As we move into 2024, it’s essential to ensure that your website is optimised for both speed and mobile friendliness. More than 50% of web traffic now comes from mobile devices, so if your site isn’t mobile-friendly, you could be losing a significant portion of your audience. Focus on providing a seamless, intuitive experience with easy navigation and fast load times to keep visitors engaged.
6. Master SEO: Focus on High-Quality Content
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a long-standing digital marketing technique that continues to evolve. As Google’s algorithms become more sophisticated, the emphasis has shifted from keyword stuffing to creating high-quality, informative content. In 2024, businesses should focus on producing valuable, long-form content that addresses the needs and pain points of their audience.
To improve your SEO, conduct thorough keyword research and create content that provides in-depth answers to commonly asked questions in your industry. Use internal linking to guide visitors to other relevant pages on your website and ensure that your content is updated regularly to remain fresh and relevant.
7. Invest in Paid Advertising
While organic reach is still valuable, the rise of paid advertising offers a more direct way to target specific audiences. Platforms like Google Ads, Facebook, and Instagram allow businesses to use highly targeted advertising to reach potential customers based on demographics, interests, and online behaviour.
In 2024, consider experimenting with a mix of search ads, social media ads, and display ads to diversify your strategy. Retargeting campaigns, which focus on users who have already visited your site, are particularly effective at converting potential customers who didn’t purchase their first visit.
8. Use Email Marketing to Nurture Leads
Email marketing remains one of the most effective ways to nurture leads and maintain customer relationships. In 2024, personalisation will be key to running successful email campaigns. Use behavioural data to send personalised emails based on your audience’s past interactions with your brand. Whether it's a product recommendation, an abandoned cart reminder, or a birthday discount, personalising your emails can significantly improve open and conversion rates.
Additionally, focus on building your email list organically and create engaging, mobile-friendly templates that grab attention. Incorporate dynamic content that adapts to the recipient’s preferences to make your emails more relevant and engaging.
9. Incorporate User-Generated Content (UGC)
User-generated content (UGC) is a powerful form of social proof that can influence purchase decisions. Customers are more likely to trust the opinions of their peers than traditional advertising. Encourage your customers to share their experiences with your products or services on social media, and showcase UGC on your website and marketing channels.
UGC can take the form of reviews, testimonials, photos, and videos from customers. By featuring authentic content from real users, you can build trust with potential customers and foster a sense of community around your brand.
10. Utilise Data Analytics to Drive Decisions
Data analytics is the foundation of a successful digital marketing strategy. By tracking the performance of your campaigns, you can make data-driven decisions that improve your ROI. Tools like Google Analytics, social media insights, and marketing automation platforms can provide valuable information on how your audience interacts with your content, website, and ads.
In 2024, focus on real-time analytics to track user behaviour and adjust your marketing strategies on the fly. Use data to identify trends, test new ideas, and continuously refine your approach to maximise results.
Conclusion
Digital marketing is an ever-changing field, and staying ahead of the trends is essential for business growth. By incorporating these 10 essential digital marketing tips, you’ll be well-prepared to navigate the challenges of 2024 and beyond. From optimising for voice search and embracing AI to mastering video marketing and enhancing your SEO efforts, each of these strategies will help you boost your business and stay ahead of the competition. Start implementing these tips today and watch your business soar to new heights in the digital world!

With the rise of Instagram Reels and TikTok videos, it seems as though blogging has become a thing of the past... or has it? Let's see if blogging is still relevant in the age of Instagram and Tiktok.
The Early Days:
Blogging first became a thing when Justin Hall created what he called his "personal homepage" on Links.net, where he reviewed HTML examples from other online links (Zantal-Wiener 2020). 3 years later, Jon Barger, a fellow blogger, coins the term "weblog", reflecting the process of logging the web. Another 2 years later, Peter Merholz, a programmer, shortens the term "weblog" into "blog", to which Merriam-Webster would declare as the word of the year in 2004 (NDMU 2018).
~ TLDR ~
1994 - Justin Hall's "personal homepage" on Links.net
1997 - Jon Barger coins the term weblog
1999 - Peter Merholz shortens "weblog" -> "blog"
2004 - Merriam-Webster declares "blog" as their word of the year
The prime time of internet exploration (for the masses) between the late-90s and early-00s are also home to the births of iconic blogging platforms such as Blogger and WordPress (NDMU 2018).
These early days were the chance for the readers and writers of the world to digitalise their bibliophilic habits as they ventured new ways to connect with bookworms across the globe.
The Evolution:
Right in the midst of blogging's mainstreaming years, the public launching of YouTube in 2005 sparked the evolution of blogging. With that, the wonders of blogging were no longer confined to the wordsmiths of the world.
YouTube's culture of video blogging, or vlogging, appealed to those who preferred audio and visual stimulation, thus continuing the reach of blogging as a whole (Maslanka 2017). This video blogging culture brought forth most of the blogging cultures still in tact today, such as the aforementioned Instagram Reels and TikTok videos, which are forms of blogging that invoke creativity in a different medium than what blogging first started as.
The Question:
lyrics captured from Spotify
So blogging evolved from choosing the right writing style to choosing the right background music, but what does that mean? Does no one do the former anymore? Is everyone just trying to accomplish the latter?
Take, for instance, you feel like cooking something new. Some people would turn to a cooking channel on YouTube, while some prefer clicking on the recipe blogs that their search engine compiles for them. My friend would rather watch a video about the newest technology, whereas I would like to read about it in a blog post instead.
It all comes down to personal preference.
Numerous blog platforms are still around and are home to a growing number of blog accounts that cater to different genres of digital communities; because just as many people there are on this planet, exists a vast range of interests, preferences, and personalities. These aspects result in the creation of digital communities that almost anyone can find a seat in. These different groups then evolve within themselves to create their own set of cultures, norms, as well as trends.
So perhaps someone who spends their days watching Instagram Stories and TikTok Lives may seem to think that blogging is a dying flame, but to someone who replies to tweets and writes fantasy fiction on Tumblr, would disagree. In fact, posting short snippets of your day or sharing your thoughts in a tweet is a form of blogging in itself, specifically known as microblogging. Microblogging is an example of blogging cultures trickling down to make room for the readers and writers of the world who enjoy doing so, but in a more casual setting.
It is also important to note that personalities are not a black and white thing. Preferences are not an either or situation. There are many people who enjoy both reading blogs and watching videos.
・・・・・・
Besides leisure pursuits, blog accounts can also be used professionally. Setting up a portfolio blog could serve as a digital gallery of one's work (ThemesKingdom 2019). For example, a programmer's portfolio blog could include the programs they have coded or their experiences with different programming languages. The inclusion of a portfolio blog to a resume helps future employers grasp the personalities, morals, and ethics of the potential employee.
And along the lines of career-oriented blogs are money-making blogs; a solid option for the adventurers who seek a non-conventional career path. These type of blogs often rake in revenue through brand partnerships, affiliate links, premium content or private consultations (Polner & Bottorff 2023).
The Answer:
Definitely! I would confidently say that blogging is still relevant in the midst of Instagram and TikTok's uprising.

Still waiting for Spotify and YouTube to update their charts later today but Google has already come through with some beautiful data for a certain eclipse themed song we all know and love during the total solar eclipse we had in the USA on Monday, April 8, 2024...
https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=now%201-d&geo=US&q=%2Fg%2F1q5jzj36p,%2Fg%2F1q5j2__98,%2Fg%2F11bzvv1522,%2Fm%2F01qdc_p&hl=en
Look at the time of peak searches. And also note the path of searches on the map...
Map - http://www.nationaleclipse.com
So then I decided to compare with a few top eclipse anthem contenders to see who won the battle. Bonnie blew them all away.
Dark Side of the Moon came in #2 in comparison, followed by #3 Black Hole Sun and #4 Here Comes the Sun. None of them really dominated any city on the map over Bonnie.
Other potential eclipse anthems I checked that rated lower than the Beatles to the 4 listed above: Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel, Steal My Sunshine by Len, Total Eclipse by Iron Maiden, Dark of the Sun by Tom Petty, Promises in the Dark by Pat Benetar, Dancing in the Dark by Bruce Springsteen, Blinded by the Light cover by Bruce Springsteen (would be #5, this version was also more popular than the Manfred Mann's Earth Band version), Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone by Bill Withers and the individual song Eclipse by Pink Floyd specifically (the album ranked higher). I'm sure I'm missing some but these were at the top of multiple eclipse themed playlists I consulted.
I'm also not sure exactly how many searches this graph corresponds to yet, but I'm sure we'll get recap articles that might have numbers. From a different Google data product, it looks like over 200k searches were done for Total Eclipse of the Heart on Sunday, April 7th alone, the day before (still less than "how to make eclipse glasses" LOL).
Looking forward to Spotify's data. 🌞
Also fun to look at: comparing searches for this song over time with total US eclipses. Possible spikes due to eclipse interest would be 2012 (annular) and 2017 (total) but the 2023 (annular) barely registered. The other spikes may be due to Bonnie performing it on TV (2005) and the TV show Glee covering it (2010).
I'll look at this more later.
But just for fun too, if you've never seen it, check out the Literal lyrics version for the original music video (it was insane, even for the 80's) https://youtu.be/fsgWUq0fdKk?si=CRXE_Zd86GpZa1yG

Found another odd tag — keyed off the word "hiding" — and this time it's a long one!
So, the full tag is:
#blac chyna is hiding true feelings about her ‘rebirth’ makeover – her ‘lip clamps & droops’ are the proof
This sounds like a celebrity gossip headline! And sure enough, this tag is full-to-bursting with this article exclusively.
I got this from the desktop site, because it's wild to see. It's just a wall of the same article, all the way down, for multiple pages.
They're all from early November 2023, and all from blogs with names that end in *-polycom, *-mag, or *news. It seems fairly self-evident that this is the work of some kind of tabloid, but I'm a curious cat. I want to dig deeper.
Digging Deeper
Most of these posts tell you (they don't provide links!) to go read the full article on POLYCOM. Ok, what is a POLYCOM? I don't think it's Poly Inc., maker of video- and teleconferencing appliances, but a few cursory Google and DuckDuckGo searches yield no evidence of anything else.
The most recent post tells us to go track down the article ourselves on "IN TREND", but provides no URL or link. Searching around for "IN TREND" on the web is fairly difficult, returning results for well-known fashion publications, trend analytics, and a brand of clothing called "Intrend". Searching for "In Trend Today" returned more interesting results, including an InTrendToday YouTube Channel and Facebook page. The Facebook page seems to have stopped posting in late 2018, but the YouTube Channel last posted a video on Dec 18, 2023. I'll talk more about the YouTube Channel under the cut at the end of this post.
Some of these posts do have "read more" links pointing to posts on Wordpress, all of which claim to be "on MAG NEWS". Each *-mag blog links out to a separate Wordpress account which seems to be re-uploading the same story. All of these Wordpress Accounts are deleted (for violating Wordpress ToS), and all of these linked posts are gone (here are two examples):
Somehow, I doubt this is some covert arm of the Maricopa Association of Governments newsroom.
Digging down into the results on Tumblr, I found a copy of this post made by the blog vouxsportsnews. They link a Wordpress article from another dead Wordpress account:
BUT, their most recent post on their blog (a gossip article about Zendaya posted on Jan 5, 2024) does have a working Wordpress link, to vouxsportsnews.wordpress.com (clever 🙄):
This is an archetypal internet-based gossip rag. I didn't know these still existed! I guess Wordpress is hunting them down for sport?
The "Read More ..." link in the article goes to a website called top.neotrends.today, which is a sketchy link I will not be clicking on. The "full article" is apparently hosted on www.primesky.media, which I also will not be directly navigating to. I did manage to get a screenshot of the front page of primesky today (Jan 8, 2024) using a webtool:
I blurred the article shown on this page to preserve the privacy of the person it featured.
Primesky is hosted on a Cloudflare virtual private server, and no public info is available on who owns the primesky URL. A search for "redroads amag" on DuckDuckGo leads back to primesky. A search of the same on Google leads to a website at www.clickhere.world, which is immensely sketchy and looks identical to primesky. At this point, I'm going to end my search for a culprit.
Conclusion
I thought I could find the tabloid hydra's body, but I just found more heads. I'm not surprised the operators of a gossip rag bot network on Tumblr are also playing dirty on Wordpress, and covering their digital tracks well. Sometimes it's best to just report spam and go on with your day.
It should go without saying, but DO NOT NAVIGATE to these websites! At worst, they will give you every virus. At best, they will mine crypto in the background of your browser (and rot your brain).
The YouTube Channel Digression
The YouTube channel intrendtoday was created on Oct 4, 2017, and it has more than 53,000 subscribers as of my posting this post (Jan 8, 2024). However, the earliest video on the channel was posted on Nov 7, 2023. That is suspiciously close to when all of these Blac Chyna spam articles went up.
Given that the videos posted get less than 50 views on average, I think the grossly-out-of-proportion subscriber count is evidence of bot subscribers. Maybe the channel re-branded and deleted a prior back-catalog? Archive.org has no snapshots of this YouTube channel, but SocialBlade claims they lost nearly 3.5 million video views in early September of 2023 (indicating they deleted a lot of videos).
SocialBlade also indexes this channel under the name "demattradinginfo", not "intrendtoday". Archive.org doesn't have records of a YouTube URL for the channel demattradinginfo, but a Google search of that name shows results for Demat Accounts, which are a type of financial account commonly used in India to hold securities and trade stocks.
It's possible that whomever is behind the gossip news spam is also in control of this YouTube channel. I wouldn't be surprised, given how frequently people offering financial advice on social media are either scammers or spammers (and sometimes both!). However, I have no proof that the people behind this YouTube channel are the same people behind this social media gossip spamming.
