Mental health matters until...

They're hypersexual

They're overly dramatic

They have gross habits (eg, hoarding, not taking care of themselves, etc)

They don't experience a certain disorder the same way as everyone else

They romanticise their own illness (I'm not justifying glorification of mental illness, it's just that I notice that it's quite common especially in the €d community)

They have 'scary' disorders (eg: NPD, schizophrenia, psychopathy, etc)

They don't feel comfortable sharing anything with you

You can't infantilize them (Autism, Tourette's, depression)

You can't fetishize them (BPD, hypersexuality)

They only do certain acts for attention (eg: S/H, acting out)

They're 'annoying'

They're impoverished

They have 'problematic' coping mechanisms (Addiction, s/h, etc)

They have binging disorders

They have extreme intrusive thoughts

They have impulse control disorders (Klepto/ Pyromania)

They experience delusions

They're illness/disorder is seen as a 'joke' (Eg: Schizophrenia, autism, etc)

They s/h in a way that doesn't involve 'cutting'

They have extreme obsessions over things or people

Until they're a person of colour

Until they're conventionally unattractive

Until they're a woman (typically in cases of male dominated disorders such as autism)

Until they're a man (typically in female dominated cases such as BPD or HPD)

Until they're queer/ non-cis

Until they're apart of a religion that clashes with the behaviours of said illness

Kinda insane and iconic for smeyer to make Jasper pretty (pls tell me that I'm not the only person who thinks that) with his long honey-blond hair and his big hands and his tall stature, and everybody draws him really pretty as well, while also covering him in an ungodly amount of scars and making him look haunted behind the eyes and carries an air of violence and stands like he's one second away from snapping your neck.

I don't know. At first glance you look at him and think "oh pretty boy" but then you REALLY look at him and think "DANGER I'M IN DANGER". Also also if you compare him to his other siblings... particularly his 'twin' Rosalie... I am having thoughts.

personally, I don't imagine jasper as any more or less "objectively" (there's no such thing but let's pretend there is) physically attractive than like, all the other vampire characters. it's twilight, it's the wish fulfillment Everyone's Supernaturally Hot series.

perhaps ironically, blond dudes are very much Not My Type irl, so I'm right there with you in thinking jasper's vibes are what make him attractive (just as you described! the haunted air of violence!)

i've also read takes that are like "alice and jasper are the UGLY vampires because um. scars!! short hair!! skinny!! they are so unfuckable and brave ✊😔" to which I'm like. girl what the sam hill are you talking about, every josh chris and mackenzie in this high school is weeping and eating glass @ how hot they are. we are told every 4 sentences that all the cullens are extremely conventionally attractive. they're my faves too but I'm not making a Bold Transgressive Statement by stanning 'ugly' characters here. Just wanted to reaffirm to myself and the world that romance-favorable aros are valid. Greyromantics, demiromantics and any other aro-spec identities that experience occasional romantic attraction are valid. Aromantics who for whatever reason still desire and take part in romantic relationships are valid.

It's been a bit of a rough ride to get to where I know this to be true. When I first found out I was aroace, I felt broken for identifying as aroace and still wanting to get married someday. It felt like I was lying in some way, or that I was betraying the aromantic community by wanting what by definition of being aromantic, I should never want. I felt guilty knowing my future partners would feel things towards me that I would never be able to feel in return.

I know that most of the aromantic affirmations are themed around wanting to make sure that aromantics in general know they are valid in an amatonormative world. Most aromantics experience the exact opposite problem as me, not feeling valid in having zero desire for romantic relationships (which is of course valid, romance-indifferent, romance-averse and romance-repulsed aros are very much valid). But there is next to nothing on the internet that I've been able to find saying that it's okay to be aromantic and romance favorable. You're not betraying the community in some way. You're valid too.

So here's that post. If you are romance-favorable and aro-spec, you're valid too. Don't feel as though your identity forces you into a box. The label that fits you best isn't tailor made specifically for you and you can do whatever you want to make it your own.

Confession: i have an indescribably frustrating, psychosexual gigacrush on Gwilin. every time i play through the game, i head directly to Ivarstead so i can exhaust all the dialogue options with him, and i'll frequently revisit him throughout the run. part of it has to do with the fact that i'm obsessed with his voice, to the point where i'll seek out other NPCs voiced by the same guy just to pretend it's Gwilin who's speaking, and part of it has to do with the fact that i've headcannoned a whole backstory for him where he's an artsy, class-conscious farm boy

It's so weird being cupioromantic and dating, it's hard to explain I don't feel romance I just reciprocate it back to who I'm dating. I can't feel the romance but I can return it. Then people say what if I'm dating someone and another person shows me romance, am I gonna reciprocate it to them. No. I'm already with someone, and they're the one I choose to give romance to. I don't feel romance but I can still give it, it's confusing but I just wish people didn't try and say cupioromantic isn't real. It very much is and it's as valid as everyone else
