I'm not ready to shut up about Aveline and Carver--so, when you go see Aveline in Act 1, you can catch up with her a little bit and that's where this conversation can happen:
Aveline: "It's just one more change, though. The real end for me was Ostagar. What about you, Carver? You were there. Do you feel something similar?" Carver: No. Aveline: All right, then. Bit of a tit, your brother.
I wanted to see what she would say if Carver isn't in the party. Instead, she says this:
Aveline: Carver was there. I imagine he feels something similar. If he allows it.

#dragon age 2#da2#carver hawke#aveline vallen#she's slightly nicer to him when he's not there but she's still like 'maybe he feels something similar but probably pretends not to'#like i'm not gonna pretend that carver doesn't bottle any feelings--he doesn't openly talk about bethany a lot for a reason#but to suggest he pretends to be unfeeling about things like ostagar is incorrect like he CLEARLY feels a lot about it#because he associates the battle at ostagar with losing his home and sister to the darkspawn#after playing as a warrior hawke who is best friends with aveline i do have a little more insight into why she might think this about carve#when hawke is a warrior they were at ostagar. they share that traumatic experience with aveline and if they're friends#they discuss it in a way that i think aveline *wants* y'know? but with carver he doesn't respond the way she wants him to#so she gets frustrated since even if she tried to talk to hawke about it... hawke wasn't there. hawke doesnt KNOW what ostagar#was like but carver does... but it's like aveline is ready to assume the worst of carver a lot of the time?#like 'carver doesn't talk about it because he's a tit who pretends not to feel' is the vibe i get from this but aveline...#that's like calling you a tit because you don't want to openly discuss all your feelings about your dead husband#listen aveline and carver are so similar but they have such key differences like they both survived the horror of ostagar#and lost a loved one to darkspawn while fleeing lothering AND they both blame hawke for it to a degree#even though they both know that's not right and that it wasn't really hawke's fault#they're both stubborn warriors with daddy issues looking to find their place#and when it comes to flirting? well i don't think carver's as bad as aveline#but i played MotA i know all about 'you could tame its wild heart'#but the key differences come in how they the end the game y'know? especially if carver's on the friendship path as a warden#i still haven't made him a templar but something tells me he ends up more on the same road as aveline#vs when he's a grey warden and able to be away from kirkwall and find a place on his own#y'all i could write a whole essay on aveline and carver but i paused my game to write this so i should go back to that sksksk

Gonna be so for real, seeing lots of posts calling Caitlyn Kiramman a ‘complex female character’. And sure she’s hot and I’ve got like some lesbian solidarity with her and she’s had all of one trauma (dead mom) and that made her want to become a mega-cop war-criminal or whatever but that doesn’t feel like enormously complex to me that feels like the bare minimum. Maybe I watched too many action movies when I was like 14 but I feel like we have so many options to point to for complex female character like Jinx or Mel or Ambessa or Vi or Sevika like why is everyone pointing at Caitlyn who has like. Respectfully. The least going on other than revenge?

#its apparently all filmed and they said it’s coming out in 2025 but I am begging for a date on it#and I guess David Tennant is gonna be the host which???? is slightly wild to me#like what do you mean an actual Known Actor is gonna be on this niche reality tv project#that I’ve been waiting for with bated breath for 5+ years now#(well that’s not quite right. I had seen that the copyright/usage rights were given to a British tv company#but then it had been so long that it became a simple What If until last year when I heard the news#that no they decided to actually do something with the concept/franchise literally 10 years after getting the rights)#my one hope is that they don’t try to put too much focus on David Tennant and instead let the games and strategy breathe#the episodes are already gonna be shorter than the Korean version as is#I don’t want even more gameplay and show identity to be cut in favor of host content yknow#anyways. i have. such strong feelings. very specifically about Matthew Fairchild, his little sister, and both of their dogs.
#it's incredibly important to me#so important to me#do you know setters and golden retrievers have very similar coats? as a matter of fact Irish setters were one of the breeds#cross bred to create the golden retriever#Anyways. Its very important. So important to me. I'm sobbing.#Matthew is helping this tiny little girl with her tiny little puppy#he has no idea how important that dog will be for her and he has no idea how much she loves spending time with him#its very important to me that they get up at 6am to go on very long walks#she follows Matthew around and her pup follows Oscar around#and its such a simple thing such a non dramatic uneventful thing. just a quiet kind sort of sibling love#this does breed the sentence “Mary Shelly is biting Oscar Wilde in the knee”#he gives her these stunning leather collars harnesses and leashes for her birthday and christmas#She braids her dogs hair and she braids Oscars hair and she runs out of dog and braids Matthews and I'm crying on the floor someone help#its right up there with the ballet class thing with the other sister which I cant even make into coherent words#I'm gonna be on a little hiatus for a few days just btw everyone#I'll answer asks once I'm back#Matthew Fairchild#marigold fairchild

Fun Fact! Birds tend to "puff up" their feathers for a wide variety of reasons other than just when they're feeling angry or defensive! They actually oftentimes do it to regulate their body temperature, prepare for sleep, and during/after preening!

Reading up on invasive plants continue to be a mistake because now that the garlic mustard's died back I am instead seeing dog-strangling vine everywhere. Admittedly Vincetoxicum rossicum and Vincetoxicum nigrum are pretty metal names but they really are out there blanketing the edge of every disturbed field and choking out the rest of the plant life...
#plant talk#t#i was interested in them for fibre reasons so at least i won't have to feel bad for harvesting them#this is a big reason why I'm trying to familiarize myself with invasive plants tbh#it's easy to confuse them with native milkweed at first but they're starting to flower now and the flowers are very distinct#i actually spent like 3 hours last night comparing their flowers to flowers of other milkweeds/dogbanes#because i was like there's SO many of them 😰#but... i guess that's what invasive plants do...#another way to tell them apart from native milkweeds is that the milkweeds are all being munched on by caterpillars#(not monarch caterpillars. these ones were black)#(there are other leptidora that are obligate herbivores on milkweed but i don't know what they are)#soooo. yikes.#these vines don't strangle dogs btw. no one knows why they're called that#i was gonna see if i could get anything workable out of garlic mustard but i waited too long#but Canada did release those weevils that only feed on garlic mustard so i don't think they're as big of an issue anymore#at least compared to these#which afaik don't really have any biological controls#if i harvest them I'll probably have to harvest in the evening right before the sun sets because i saw them growing among something that#looks suspiciously like ragweed. which is fine aside from the allergies. but ragweed also looks like wild carrot and wild parsnip#which are ABSOLUTELY NOT FINE and they will burn you like acid if you touch their sap and then go into the sun#no thank you !!#there's a few common plants that look like wild parsnip#but uhhhhhhh I'm not touching that lol#also found some wild grapes growing with them though! yum 😋#i don't care much for the grapes but the young shoots are sooooo good if you cook them up. they taste lemony

I wish GI wasn't trying to push people (kinda specifically longer players) away from the game, like damn. I really hope new players are watching closely and not just deciding "there are haters" or "complainers." i’m so fucking done y’all i HATE loving books whilst being audhd cause here’s what the majority of my reading sessions go like: - hyperfocus. i finish a book the width of my arm in a single night and end up collapsing in class the next day because i got no sleep
- chill reading, until The Sound comes in. The Sound could be a person, a youtube video someone else is watching, an outside noise, an ad in the middle of my music and so on. after The Sound appears all focus is lost and the reading session is ruined - desperately trying to read but nothing is right. there is a bright or cool toned light, a sound or a lack of sound, my clothes are weird, there is no sitting position that is right, there is a weird taste in my mouth and my eyes are slowly dying. my brain is racing and making too much internal noise and i simply cannot focus for the life of me. at all. not even for a sentence. often, this happens suddenly in the middle of a previously good reading session and my brain turns off at this point - brain is too slow to read and would rather disassociate. sometimes you even get bonus trauma flashbacks or embarrassment flashbacks as a treat !! - brain is too fast and excited meaning my eyes skip entire paragraphs and i miss very important pieces of information, making me slow my roll and go back and read the boring monologue of text before the Exciting Part
AND THE DIFFICULTY OF READING VARIES WITH THE TYPE OF BOOK TOO. for example, if it’s a modern book/written recently (meaning from 1970s - present day) it is more common to enter a hyperfocus reading session than the other types. if it’s a classic or older book with slightly different writing styles, it is impossible to have a hyperfocus session because now my brain must analyse the words and stop to look up new words.
the worst thing about this ? i LOVE classics. i love all the fancy words and the different sentence structures and the vivid descriptions that the authors poured their heart and souls into. i love the characters and the unique influences on their personalities that come from being written in a different time. i adore analysing meanings and picking apart phrases and words and characters and plots. but i cannot ever focus on it for more than maybe half an hour or an hour, reading painstakingly slowly for my standards and taking all the immersion out of the reading experience because i have to stop to process the information, meaning i am me in the real world. i am not in their world, with the characters. and it makes me want to SCREAM.
the worst worst worst part ??? on the extremely rare occasion i do have a good reading session with a classic, i am always, without fail, interrupted by someone talking to me, making me pause my music and immersion for whatever remark they feel they have to make over and over again until i feel like ripping their face off because SCREW YOU I JUST GOT TO ENJOY THIS BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF LITERATURE WITH ALL THE PRETTY WORDS AND YOU RUIN IT WITH TELLING ME THE BUS ROUTES TO SCHOOL ?? THE SAME BUS ROUTES I TAKE BY MYSELF ALREADY AND HAVE BEEN TAKING FOR AT LEAST FOUR WEEKS BEFOREHAND ???????? SCREW YOU >:(
