After a long time thinking about the way Mystique & Destiny being confirmed as Kurt's parents, as well as various other Marvel retcons, I think I have gotten to the bone of what bothers me about it.

It's treated like a plot twist when it should be treated as a payoff.

This retcon in particular *is* a payoff for many people who really wanted it to be made canon, and I think they really missed the chance to make it a good story and not...what it is. I don't have to tell those who know what the problems with it are (and none of them are Mystique & Destiny having a baby okay) and I guess people who really love this being made canon don't necessarily care that the writing is bad...

I don't know exactly where I'm going with this. Huh.

There was a lot of build up for Destiny & Mystique for this reveal, because there has been a lot of focus on their relationship in recent years, but even with that being said the characters were treated very poorly. There was definitely not enough of a build up for Kurt's story here either and I do think the story suffers because it happened during a huge upheaval of X storylines going into the next era...

I just think it would have gone much better if say Kurt was on a *team/book* with both Mystique and Destiny that had the time to give a bit more focus to how their relationships stood before the reveal vs after in a meaningful way, as well as shine a light on allll the problems they have had in the past (like they did with Gambit and Rogue before they got married).

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT????
