First thing that comes to my mind - the idiots met when they were Children.

We know how adult Arthur goes about authority, imagine what newly-orphaned angry and depressed teenager Arthur was like. I bet he was so so so much worse about having a demanding voice in his head. Acting out just because he could and needed to, And because he has to rival this voice in his head.

This AU makes John go through such an interesting arc from being someone who has to take care of child, while being unprepared and irresponsible himself (does this remind you of anyone. Does It?) to being cared for right back. This single thought makes me go insane.

It would also be very interesting for the entire Arthur and Saltzmans' story? Cause one of the reasons John doesn't want Arthur close to people is that he knows they have a target on their backs, and he doesn't like them or Arthur getting hurt. However Arthur's romance with Bella happened, it was very likely against John's entire... everything. I think he was fighting tooth and nail to keep it from evolving any further.

Also, Daniel! Who is the (1) authority figure Arthur recognises. That would absolutely drive John mad xD

(btw I'm not trying to be mean to John, it's just this is the only feasible way I can see him reacting to this, and I view it as a... big longterm fight the boys had. not John trying to be mean, or denying Arthur other connections, he was just overly cautions and in a situation where Arthur utterly ignored his wishes and denied agency, so he was..understandably upset about this.

which leads me to my personal conclusion, that in this au, John would have taken Arthur's position in that bar. aka, I think John would have gone for trying to jump ship over the whole marriage disaster. And then Arthur did the most stupid and mature thing he has ever done, and came back to the hospital to get Faroe handed to him. (then the idiots get injected with high dose of paternal love and it's all fine now)

oh god yes they made each other SO miserable for the first like, several years of their partnership lmao. i sort of gesture at this vaguely in the fic but like, they were both so scared and lost and angry all the time with no ability to regulate those feelings and just so happened to have an unwilling participant to take all of them out on who literally couldn't get away. it was Not Fun For Anyone. arthur hated having to listen to him, john had zero patience for his Moods™, neither of them had a single thing outside the other to escape to, it was a real problem. relatedly the whole "soul learning to walk" thing kinda gets real funny in this 'verse bc arthur is. also still very young. it gets real "wait why are YOU ordering me around i'm OLDER" "NO you are NOT I'M OLDER" slapfight lmao.

but! yknow! they still both can't survive without cooperating so they kinda had no choice but to figure their shit out regardless.

...actually re: their childhood together, one thing i have been thinking about is that like. i did say the events of the show were gonna be edited pretty heavily to fit the timeline, and one part of it is i don't think the dreamlands or yellow were ever a thing? BUT. what i was thinking MIGHT be fun, is if they learn early on what john is/comes from, and he goes through a period of wanting to go back to being the king (but ultimately changes his mind before actually getting presented with the chance.) and also it takes a while for them to get to The Events that lead to him getting named john, i think. so i think for a while there arthur was calling him yellow. (then post-their equiv. of the s2 finale he goes back to just "friend" for a bit, due to lack of better options, until they pick "john" up)

oh yeah the fucking... Everything with bella was something john was very against and tried to stop and got steamrolled over about, it was all very fucked up. bc like, i think atp he and arthur are on better terms, but arthur was also so isolated and insanely desperate for human connection that it made him. very irrational. john could probably also tell that he didn't actually love bella, and maybe that bella wasn't all that crazy about him either, and whatever they were getting from each other was not a foundation for anything serious or long-lasting, so was trying to pull him away on that grounds, too. like, on top of the paranoia, he was also like "you don't even want this, i think you're half just using it to hurt yourself for not measuring up to some social standard and that's not fair to you OR her." but. again. arthur was not doing a very good job of Listening.

i actually think there's like, a solid 50/50 chance, dependent mostly on how character arcs play out, that john is the one advocating for jumping ship vs. him being the one to go "no you made your choices, i gave you every chance to stop, now we're going to have to take responsibility for the consequences." either way that convo goes... probably better than the one with james in canon. just bc they know each other well enough to know what will actually get through without just sending them on a guilt/doom spiral. more "regardless of how we feel, we can't just run away from this" and much less "wtf is wrong with you, you're fundamentally broken and unlovable for not feeling the way you're Supposed To." yknow.

...and yeah, then they actually pick up faroe for the first time and all of that goes instantly out the window. cancel everything else no more personal crises no time for that we have discovered the one (1) thing that actually matters in our life.

A new, very interesting review has popped up on Facebook—secrets of accent and underwear revealed!

"As promised, this is my review of last nights performance of Here in America. The Orange Tree has a real community theatre vibe which I prefer to the West End. It also gives the actors that "getting back to basics" feel where there is nowhere to hide from a bad performance.

I had read the play before seeing it, and was really interested in how it would be portrayed with such a minimal set. The two benches and some leaves were used so effectively, I was really impressed. No stage hands to assist, just the cast using props and a raised platform in the centre of the room.

As an ex actor myself, I will try to be as general as I can as otherwise I will be writing a book here! The first thing that struck me was just how close I was to the actors. I was in the front row, and found I couldnt even cross my legs without causing an obstruction. However, this meant that I could see every slight glance, a frown or smirk which really suits Shaun's style of gesture. I call it small acting.

Shaun is tiny! I have never really noticed this before, but when he is there less than metre away, I really became aware of it and this added to the vulnerability of Gadg. He really does play a tortured soul very well. A few times I caught him catching the audiences eye almost pleading with them to see his point of view, and this technique worked well. However, there was an accent slip a number of times, and I even detected a tiny bit of Scouse in one instant! There was also a feeling that he needed to relax into the scene, but that probably comes from him not working within this genre as often as TV.

Faye Castelow gave a good performance as the opinionated and uptight Day. She presented a character as wound tight as a drum, and I was expecting an angry outburst at any minute.

I was disappointed in Miss Bauer, the nickname used for Marilyn Monroe, played by Jasmine Blackborow. If you are going to present such an iconic character, you need to get the basics beyond the physicality right. There was none of the childlike vulnerability used as seduction or even the intelligence of Monroe. I know the character was used mostly as a narrator, but although it was a great idea, I'm not sure it worked.

Michael Aloni as Arthur Miller was the stand out performance. There was a strength and determination of Art that Aloni really delivered. His transformation was great too. Having watched many interviews of Miller over the years (I've been obsessed with Monroe since I was a small child) he really nailed the steely take no shit of the man.

Overall, I was enthralled throughout the play, and the 80mins seemed to fly by. At times, I laughed and other times I felt quite emotional about the position Gadg was put in, and it does leave you asking yourself "what would I do?" in that situation.

Back to our favourite man. Shaun is incredibly handsome in the flesh and has beautiful skin up close. However, he is alot shorter than I thought and appears quite delicate, although I know looks are deceiving! Definitely wears briefs not boxers (for those who may be wondering). I actually got a smile off of him which nearly took my breath away. I feel incredibly lucky to have seen him work up close, and hope for him to do more theatre as you could see he was quite buzzed to get a roaring round of applause."

Nova’s Notes - DD - May 9 & 11

I’m combining both of these entries into one since I have similar thoughts about both!

First off, yay we get our first time meeting Mina and Lucy!!!!!!!! And may I just say it’s great to see these girls being besties and chatting? You can tell just by the way they write that they have known each other a long time. Bram actually did a good job writing these women talking to each other. It feels natural and organic. Finally a “men writing women” moment where I don’t want to gag. I will still never get over the adaptations pitting these two lovely ladies against each other!! Why do we still feel the need to make them “compete.” Ugh :(

Mina’s Letter - I love how she starts right away with “forgive me for not writing you.” She already KNOWS Lucy is going to get on her for that, lol. Also her gushing about Jonathan is adorable and I love how she talks about writing to him in code. Those two nerds, they’re going to end me with their cuteness. Also, studying lady journalists to help with your journalism? What a queen doing that research. As she should! Again, it’s the bare minimum, but Stoker really did a good job with this one I must say. Seeing her be hopeful about Jonathan’s trip to Transylvania and the subsequent promise of seeing places like that together is a bit sobering. :( that is, until we reach her PS!

“You have not told me anything for a long time.” This line makes me want to laugh for some reason and I’m not quite sure why? Maybe it’s because I can hear a slightly scolding tone when she says it, or maybe because I can totally see me telling one of my friends this, especially to goad them into telling me the tea. Either way, it’s great.

“I hear rumours, and especially of a tall, handsome, curly-haired man???”

I’m convinced Stoker read my texts or something because LOL that’s literally how I type! The idea of her writing “???” is adorable and I love it so much. Also by “rumors” does she mean Lucy’s mom? I’m pretty sure she means Lucy’s mom. I think it’s funny the first really descriptive thing we really hear of Arthur is his curly hair!

We can get a good glimpse of Mina’s personality just by this letter. We can already tell she’s genuinely excited to be married to Jonathan and help with his work. She is also very methodical, as she is thinking of several different ways she can practice her stenography and shorthand to help assist him. Like Jonathan, she does her research by reading up on how women in similar fields conduct their craft. She is obviously hopeful and in love with him, as she dreams of seeing new places with him after they are married.

However, she does not neglect Lucy in her missive! While her letter is mostly about Jonathan (which I assume is likely due to to Lucy asking after him and most engaged people do tend to talk about their fiancé — just look at Jonathan), she does take time at the beginning and ending of the letter to a) assure Lucy she misses her and b) tell her the latest news ASAP!! This shows that she deeply cares about her friend, even with her impending nuptials.

Lucy’s Letter - “I must say you tax me very unfairly with being a bad correspondent. I wrote to you twice since we parted, and your last letter was only your second.”

Yep, sure enough, Lucy gets on Mina for not writing to both of her letters (I do wonder if Mina answered everything that was in both letters…). Of course, it’s in a good-natured way and it gives me the same vibes as Rarity from MLP:FIM fainting into a couch or something and I am HERE FOR IT (for those who don’t watch the show, I genuinely mean this as a compliment. I love Rarity -- also I could probably make a whole post about Dracula characters as MLP characters, hmm…).

“Besides, I have nothing to tell you. There is really nothing to interest you.”

*Proceeds to list the hottest gossip* I love this girl so much. She has my whole heart.

Yep, definitely Lucy’s mom! I would love to see the letters between Mina and Lucy’s mom tbh.

Also when talking about Arthur, it’s so adorable because you can tell at first she only tries to sprinkle in a little bit about him, like “oh he’s just someone I met” and then it quickly morphs into “we met this guy who would be great for you” (Seward mention!!!! Can’t wait to meet everyone’s favorite pathetic wet cat /pos) to “I’m already picking up his slang and using his first name and did I mention IM IN LOVE WITH HIM????”

You can already learn so much about Lucy from this first letter. She’s sweet and caring to the people around her, lively about everything and a bit unsure about love (since she doesn’t quite know if Arthur loves her back). I looked up her age (idk if that counts as spoilers but I’ll tag this as such just in case) and she’s 19!!! This is exactly the kind of letter I would expect a 19-year-old to write to her best friend. I just love how excited she sounds, as she should!!! She’s a young girl in love, perhaps for the first time, and wants her best friend to know. I do love how she tells Mina “write back to me IMMEDIATELY with your thoughts.” Same, Lucy, same.

Back to Seward. It’s so funny to me that he wants to make a psychological study of her while staring straight into her soul and she seems to be chill with it!! Like she still loves Arthur, but she’s also not put off by Jack, either. He’s just got that neurodivergent urge to study her under a microscope and honestly, who can blame him? I can also see why Lucy would ship Seward and Mina together; obviously, I’m a diehard Jonmina shipper (and I’m pretty sure Lucy is too, she just likes chaos), but I feel like Mina and Seward would totally bond over train schedules and other nerd stuff.

So, to sum it up, I love both of these girls and their friendship so much and I can’t wait to see more of them!!! Eeeee

It took me long to choose characters but I've ended with Elyon, Orube and Yazoo (from FFVII). First, Elyon.

I like her shaggy hairstyle in cartoon a lot! It is a reason for Kane/Phobos to has his hair so wild! But in a comic book her silhouette is much closer to Weira and they're said to be very look alike, so I've came with a compromise between comic and cartoon versions. Her iconic sweater is a noticeable detail too, plus it's purple and purple always gives a magical and mystique vibe.

I'm not gonna lie: as a kid, I've never been fond of her. As far as I know, most fans say the same as I do: she's too sugary sweet, naive, gullible and never had a chance to kick Phobos's ass. But as she's one of the characters in my fancomic In Breach, I followed my commom approach "You can't have a character in your script and feel a subjective grudge towards them". So I started asking myself why Elyon is acting the way she does. And I've discovered а very interesting fact.

Why she WOULDN'T act the way she does?

She is an ordinary teen girl, not the smartest, not the brightest (when it's not about amazing drawing skills that she share with Hay Lin. I mean, come on!). She isn't the most socially successful, as she mentioned in a cartoon "I'm a teenager without friends" (in rus dub). The ordinary "normal" type. Her only stable relationship is with Cornelia and Alchemy. She's so unnoticed that only Alchemy notified the police that Elyon is missing. And Alchemy is not a teacher, just a classmate. A family has disappeared and literally no one (including neighbors) told to police that lights were off for a long time.

Yes, we see Elyon in a background from time to time and she even says a phrase or two. She's not an outcast type, she hangs with the others BUT every time we see her involved it also involves Cornelia who was most likely the one who invited her. And she's always slightly away from the rest making me think she only does this to mix with her surroundings. We never see her hanging with her own company or even a single friend instead of the main heroes or Alchemy (who's also a Cornelia friend). Or Bryan... but it was a sad and short story. We never see her having a long dialogue unless we know who she really is. It's an arguable point tho as the story is about W.I.T.C.H girls and script writers probably were trying to keep a secret of her true nature.

But when Cedric appears! Unlike her furtive parents that always withhold something and Cornelia who's all about herself (with all the respect to Cornelia), Cedric just... listens to her. He shows compassion, non-judgmental approach and sound sincere. With him Elyon feel being special. Not to mention that Cornelia has betrayed her for Will (we know the reason behind it but Ely doesn't).

And then! Bang! Suddenly Elyon becomes THE special. The only one! She's like Harry Potter who got a letter from Hogwarts, like issekai character, the fucking King Arthur, THE CHOSEN ONE! Common people of Meridian are praying on her, servants are ready to perform any caprice, Miranda is being nice and ready to play with her, her older brother is such a sweet and cheerful person who would do just anything for her. She's like Coraline who found the other mother. And this case is actually so good that it should be in a video "How and why people fall for abusive relationship or being lured into a sect".

The only thing she can be accused is being too gullible but she acts as a person who grasps any straw. Who would you choose? Parents who lied to you for your whole life? Fake friends who replaced you with a new girl.

We can go deeper here. Remember the first scene with Elyon in a comic book? She got a low grade and instead of supporting her, her "friends" invent a humiliating punishment to hit on a stranger. Although they know she's quite shy! What a nice company we have here, don't we?

Don't get me wrong, teenagers may show low empathy due to their age. Cornelia isn't a bad person too. She's the most loyal friend one might only dream of! Both in a comic book and cartoon she stays at Elyon's side and refuse the idea of her friend being evil. Although Elyon did a lot in a comic book to be judged. Cornelia risks her own life to get to her. BUT she's still quite an narcissist type. Such people attract very specific friends: those who always stay in their shadow, never a threat or a competitor. You can see others confronting her in either passive-aggressive form or trying to show her a place like Irma does. But Elyon was with Cornelia since they were small kids. I have a theory that Elyon actually wins from it too: she seem very "normal" by hanging with a popular friend who would invite her to every party. And literally no one can say no to Cornelia, right? And Elyon seem present in the society. And at the same time she actually isn't.

So here's the whole picture: Elyon isn't a scapegoat outcast like Martin, she isn't labeled as "odd" like Hay Lin. BUT she's not a successful either. She's a blank one, that average conformal person that does their best to suit "normal" standarts. She's short on social contacts, she's breadcrumbed by Cornelia and has no friends outside her pack. As we remember, Alchemy is also Cornelia's friend. Both Browns are hideous, insanely quiet people who made a very, very isolated, incapsulated family to the point that no one even notices their absence. They do their best to lay low and they teach Elyon to act the same way (we know why, but it's quite unhealthy thing you know). I bet Eleanor is quite unhappy with Ely's marks, but I'm not sure if she's strict about it. She's been shown as a good parent in both comic and cartoon. Although the way Elyon agreed to throw them in prison in a comic so easily is something that keep my brain buzzing.

Sooo my idea is that her reliance problems has started long before the cartoon events. Her social contacts never worked properly to begin with and that's why Cedric got her so easily. Not to mention his speech skills. Elyon was a quiet, shady kid with a certain tendency for escapism. Drawing on her level is quite a specific trait that requires a lot of time spend alone and some wild imagination. I think while she never shows this in a cartoon and probably suppressed it, she was really envy of Cornelia, Irma, Hay Lin and even Taranee having huge and nice families, lots of friends and being very bright people. While she's... on the sidelines. There's a thick wall of white lies between her and her parents. She's... no one. Only Cedric shown her what being heard and important is.

Although all the above is cool, it makes her a bit bland to my personal taste. So in my AU called In Breach I given her a bit salt and spice by returning her some of her comic characteristics. I see her as a stalker type, very jealous and vengeful, but too afraid of showing aggression and staring a feud. She would write some really nasty fanfiction about her foes and spread rumors, make ugly caricature on Grumper sisters. Might even play a nasty prank on someone if she can get away unnoticed. But nothing violent, just humiliating.

So, imagine this lost envious girl stumbling across another narcissist. Different from Cornelia, quite a violent type. The one who seem to be afraid of no one. Like, literally not a single person can tell him what to do - even the police (on a first glance. In reality, he's afraid of jail as fuck). The one who questions the moral, the normality, the good and evil. AND telling her this is what she can and should be. WELL WELL WELL WHO COULD THAT BE)

Also, a song that must be a soundtrack for her kicking Phobos's butt in a cartoon.

Every single one! I love responding to comments because I love the conversation, the back and forth. It's my absolute favorite part of writing and reading fanfiction. It may take me a while but I will eventually get to every single one.

A Promise Kept

It's my only fic with Major Character Death and it's, uh, real sad. Made myself cry with this one.

Probably Distractions. It's pretty fluffy from start to finish.

Occasionally. It's not usually that bad but I've gotten the random hate comment. When it's 1 in every 70 comments they tend to just disappear under all of the love and support.

Sure do! It is few and far between but I've branched out and have written some more detailed smut recently. It tends to be pretty straight forward smut, pretty romantic and flowery.

I'm quite fond of CodyWan and Echo/Quinlan and Fox/Quinlan. I have loved maaaaaany ships. Like Arthur/John/Oscar (Malevolent), Reid/McCullum (Vampyr), Artemy/Daniil (Pathologic 2), Charles/Arthur (RDR2), and the list really goes on and on. I'm a fairly flexible shipper so there's a lot of ships I enjoy and bounce between I just don't tend to write for ships very often lol. These are a few that stand out, though.

What's a WIP you'd like to finish but doubt you ever wilI?

That's a tough one. I started working on one that is literally just the letters Echo would write to his loved ones in the event that he died on a mission and left letters to them. A follow up to A Promise Kept. It takes a lot of emotional energy to write so I can see me abandoning that one.

What are your writing strengths?

Emotions. Lots of emotions. Sticking to a schedule lol. Physical connections in fics (shoulder touches, cuddling, etc.) I am great at writing angst followed by a nice soft fluff then some angst again.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I tend to forget the characters are in a room. Like, I often describe what characters are doing with each other, how they're moving, etc, but they end up kind of... floating in a blank room. I forget about the scenery. I forget to describe the scenery. I forget that's important. I also get stuck if I have a tough writing day. Then I tend to... not keep writing. I give up. It's a bad habit I have to break.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I would certainly love to do this and I love when I see it done in a fic.

First fandom you wrote for?

I feel like I answer this question different every single time bc I forget lol. If we're talking the very first fandom I'm thinking it was something like Teen Wolf or Supernatural tbh.

Favorite fic you've ever written?

I'm going to have to say Blind Trust for this one. I love this fic. It was completely self indulgent and I am planning on writing fics with the same vibe in the future. I just wrote what I wanted and that was fun as hell.

i recently started playing rdr2 cause im visiting family that has it (theres actually been a lot of funny stories being on an unfamiliar console, like playing 22+ hours and reaching chap 2 without knowing how to save.. and i didnt know how to tell arthurs weight so i kept him underweight for so long my poor starving man </3) after playing rdr1 quite a bit. i also vibed with john hard in 1 but i lowkey thought he was an angsty young adult in rdr2 and not a FATHER. my favs are arthur and javier tho i can barely see the latter cause where tf is he on the map?? same with charles where IS HE??? but anyways i also vibe so hard with kieran.

for hobbies, i like to play video games as you may have guessed, i also like to read (non fiction, classic lit and danmeis especially), make art of all kinds but mainly physical sketches, and im always looking to add more shows/movies to my watched list.

i love to visit restaurants and cafes and interesting places surrounding food!!! my idea of a good time is eating with people, even if its in a crappy chuck e cheese. i love to try new foods (but it's a bit hard since becoming vegetarian), and i love matcha! i also love visiting just interesting places in general. why go to disney when you can see a beautiful spot in nature, or an art exhibit, or a park, or just the lively downtown? but other than that, i love my dedicated space 💗

I think that Vantage would be really patient when it comes to you and expressing your feelings, she'd never let you just walk away if she saw that you were upset, I think that communication and trust is a priority in every relationship.

She'd listen to you when you tell her that you have chronic pain and she'd do exactly the things you ask her to do, always trying her best to help you and she'd make sure you're not pushing yourself too hard.

Okay I sadly still haven't gotten time to listen to the full Steph playlist yet but YES YES YES FIONA APPLE AND THE MOUNTAIN GOATS!!! HELL FUCKING YEAH!! The vibe may not be fitting but another Steph song I absolutely adore is "still alive" by the spook school, literally the chorus is screaming "fuck you, I'm still alive!" And if that's not Steph then idk what is. I also can't think of a specific song but I often think of Steph when listening to Adrian Lenker? Especially Kerina but I'd need to listen to the lyrics a lot closer. The Verge to me is totally Steph Bg2009, especially early on in the series while she’s still finding her footing and beginning to build herself back up from her lowest point. It’s also a banger, Rly like this one.

Family Secret as young Steph’s reflection on her mom’s addiction works so so well, and upsets me. Could also be abt Cluemaster and also Arthur’s abusiveness, but I really like how the lines ‘you’re all cold’ and ‘I don’t understand now why you wanna leave me alone’ can apply to how closed off and unavailable Crystals drug addiction made her especially when Steph was younger. Crystal and Steph’s relationship is so so interesting to me. Like there can be a lot of anger there, but like w everything else about Steph there’s also this over abundance of love and dedication.

1. o segredo na floresta - my favorite season ever and this hasn’t changed since I first watched it, I followed it while it was happening!! I didn’t watch it live because I’ve always hated watching lives but every week I’d watch the episodes when they came out on youtube and BY GODS this season is so special to me. I can’t even put into words why I love this season so much it just kinda grabbed me by the throat and forced me to be clinically insane about it forever and ever (shout out to my osnf book and paper stands I made bc I’m too poor to buy any other merch)

2. O segredo na ilha - BEAUTIFUL SHOWSTOPPING. “Haha your two favorite seasons are o segredo na [insert location] IM PREDICTABLE IM SORRY. Ok but osni is amazing, the vibes are spot on, the characters are great, we get to see the elements being used in different ways (blood being used for the paint and the paintings enhancing the observer’s feelings to cause fear or dependence. Absolutely insane /pos), we learn a little more about tenebris (very little but still), and idk man I just really vibe with osni

3. Sinais do outro lado - it’s a fun season, I love Xande and Guizo and I really like how the seasons is about aliens?? Like this works to show how the paranormal manifests based on what people fear and this can include. Aliens. And I think that’s fun + MORE TENEBRIS!! Yayyy I’m so curious about tenebris

4. Desconjuração - ok so i complain a lot about opd because it’s a very tiresome season to watch for me, there’s way too much fighting and way too little investigation for my taste (coughs in osnf fan) and I really don’t vibe with some of the characters, but I really really like Kaiser and Arthur’s development in it along with us getting to see more Agatha and Ivete aka my favorite npcs ever, and I really like Dante he’s such an interesting character!!! And also I watched the last ep at like 2am and I cried for an hour when I finished it and then I couldn’t sleep and then I grieved Kaiser for a month

5. Calamidade - SHOCKING NEWS: guy who complains about opd all the time places opc lower than it on the ordem seasons rank. For as much as I love Rubens and the anfitrião sequence I’ll have to say calamidade was a very neutral season to me, it’s somewhat forgettable? Like I retained very little details from it and I have a very neutral opinions towards it in general, it’s not a bad season but it could’ve been way more interesting

6. Quarentena - I’m gonna be completely honest with you, I only watched about 30 minutes of it and I couldn’t watch the rest. As someone who is very bad with changes (some may say it’s autism), the fact that none of the players are familiar, they’re using the survival horror version of the system and its all in english drives me nuts… I get they’re speaking English bc most of the players don’t speak Portuguese but it just feels so. Wrong to me, it takes away an essential part of ordem to me which is the fact it’s national, it’s a piece of media from my country that’s really good and that I’m super passionate about and! It’s in my language and set in my country and has pieces of my culture and that’s Brazilian art baby!! Everything else is already in english and made to appeal to an English speaking audience, hell I’m even speaking english right now, it just feels like they’re taking away ordem’s identity when they make it In English tm yk. I don’t care if people from other countries are getting into ordem, I’ve made a few non-Brazilian friends and mutuals get into it myself, what bothers me is they’re all coming from opq and most of them stay at opq and don’t bother to watch any other seasons + 90% of the ordem content I find on tumblr is opq and it drives me INSANE. I might eventually get my shit together and watch the rest of it just to say I watched it but yeah not right now

Anon thank you so much for asking!!! I am so happy to talk about this AU which has remained dormant in my brain for like. A year and a half now.

For context - I started cooking all this up while I was playing fire emblem: revelations, which I did after I had already beat conquest once and birthright like… 3 times? '

I try and do different pairings each time I play, while keeping things as strategically and romantically as interesting as possible - but not every pairing can end up perfect. Notable for this au is that I ended up with a Peri!Siegbert and a Felicia!Shiro

i actually have published a bit of fanfiction about Peri!Siegbert, because I find it to be really fascinating. It gnaws at my brain.

But the basic genesis of this fanfic was this: how the hell is Siegbert supposed to have any optimism and pride and hope for his country when his mom is fucking Peri. Like. It goes deeper then that. But truly - how do you reckon with that?

Well. Maybe he's just barely keeping it together. Maybe he's going to explode soon. And maybe your best bud from the war happens to notice this. And in an act that will not fix any of the structural problems, he decides to arrange a marriage between Siegbert and his cousin Caeldori.

Normal. Normal! Further plot summary + some bonus drawings under the cut.

This all takes place in modified version of Rev, where Corrin sided with Hoshido at first but was able to recruit some Nohrians to her side towards the end of the conflict. But the consequence is that the ending political situation isn't just "now we're all friends" it is very much more leaning towards "Heyyy can we keep Nohr trapped in the torment nexus for 400 years". This is partially due to the fact that Sakura died in this version, and partially due to well. How the game treats Nohr to begin with.

Half of the second gen were in the canon deeprealm space time ovens during the war - Siegbert, Shiro, Caeldori, Forrest, and Ignatius are the relevant ones. They're anywhere between 16-20 when they're recruited from their deeprealm.

The other half of second gen are born post-war, and are normal babies. Kiragi, Percy, and Rhajat are the ones I have firmed up. Percy literally never comes up in this AU I just have a soft spot for Arthur x Beruka and I want them to have a normal family life. Or as normal as they're going to get lmao.

The exception to all of this are Sophie and Dwyer, who were Normal kids who had their parents killed during the very beginning of the war. Silas and Jakob, who in this version had years of romantic tension and basically got married immediately after the war started, adopt them. You just have to trust in my weird yaoi.

Sophie and Dwyer aren't sent out into battles - they stay in the mycastle as a butler and maid. Sophie is REALLY BAD at being a maid.

About 1-2 years after the war, at a celebration of the birth of Prince Kiragi (whose mother is Mozu btw. I'M LITERALLY MOZUKUMI! I'VE GOTTA DO IT!), Siegbert has a breakdown in front of Shiro. He confesses that he doesn't know if he can do this anymore - he had all these ideals about being a great king like father, but his resolve is starting to crack, and he doesn't know if he can believe father even is a great king. Not after all he's done, and especially not after he continues to not just tolerate, but love his mother - Peri.

Shiro offers his best bro a way to get out: get into an arranged marriage with his cousin, Caeldori. Since everybody still hates Nohr due to stuff from the war, it can be posed as like, a political bargain/punishment to take their crown prince and marry him into Hoshido, as well as a potential olive branch for future unity.

And Siegbert is conflicted... but he accepts the offer.

For her part, Caeldori accepts this because of her loyalty to Shiro and her country. She's conflicted - she's a romantic at heart, and she's been nursing feelings for Dwyer for ages. But her duty must come first. She knows the pressure that Siegbert faces.

So now we have a couple of plotlines going on: Siegbert as he adjusts to this new country, Shiro realizing that maybe the reason he made this offer was because he kind of wanted to marry Siegbert himself, Caeldori struggling between duty and love, and the folks back at Nohr scrambling to make sense of the new normal.

Nobody in Nohr wants to be next in the line of succession. Elise, whose an adult at this point (I haven't gotten a firm timeline yet, but the war took a couple of years + this is a timeskip to after the war), just had a baby with Hayato. And now everybody is kind of just sitting there hoping that this kid grows up to really fucking love being a ruler.

Also - Felicia ! She's Shiro's mom, remember? And... she was a political hostage from the Ice Tribe. And what's happening to Siegbert isn't quite the same - he had a lot more say in the matter then she did. But it's still an echo of her bast experience, and she proves to be one of his biggest allies. He's winning the mother-in-law competition.

The vibe of the whole thing is like... mainly interpersonal drama? It's also partially about examining some of the insane stuff Fates puts out into the lore and then never elaborates on.

I get the vibe that he just isn’t ticklish in many places but the areas that he is, they’re almost unbearably ticklish for him.

If his brothers try to tickle him/get a bad spot he reacts (in the way Tommy does) instantly to get them to stop. If Ada or Poll try to tickle him/get a bad spot he’s more lenient and less aggressive but still can over-power them and can get away slightly easier. Always escapes his families tickles with detailed revenge plans.

With Grace and Lizzie I feel like he just lets it happen. They don’t do it to him often, only when he’s been having a bad few weeks and he knows that when they do it, it’s for the best.

Hides it for a while but hates to admit the fact he giggles for a few minutes an then deeply cackles when tickle spots are reached.

Worst spots are; ribs, feet, knees/thighs and hips

Ler

Absolute menace of a Ler

Never misses a beat when recalling everyone’s worst spots, can probably name them off by heart at the drop of a hat if questioned (by people he knows and loves obviously).

Favourite targets are his brothers because it makes him reminisce before the war and when they were all 100% happy and content.

Goes for Poll and Ada least, even though he can over-power them physically, he knows better than to seek revenge/start a tickle attack on them.

Obviously grace and Lizzie get sweet tickles from him too.

John Shelby

Lee

Joint first for most ticklish brother.

Instantly falls to the ground when tickled and has no control, most of the time giggles for a seconds and then goes into full blown deep laughter, which occasionally rises in pitch when you reach a bad spot.

If Tommy tickles him he fights for a few seconds but submits and knows to not attempt revenge on Tommy (but still does try to anyway…. The cycle continues endlessly).

If Arthur or Finn tickle him he fights as long as he can, and eventually will crumple and giggle himself half to death.

He hates to admit it but teasing ruins him completely… as does raspberries on his belly button

Worst spots: armpits, thighs, stomach and sides.

Ler

Definitely a more mischievous Ler, and it’s adorable.

Despite not being able to take teases, he will happily hand them out to everyone he tickles.

Finn is his favourite to tickle… it’s his younger brother and decided one day to unleash many tickle attacks to mimic the amount he received off Tommy and Arthur when they were growing up.

Also tickles Finn a lot to try and keep him as young as he can in his mind, growing up too fast in a harsh world worries John so he does it for the both of them :)

Arthur Shelby

Also joint first as most ticklish brother.

Hates the fact he’s ticklish and he tries to hide it and hold in the laughter and reactions when tickled… he really does…. It just doesn’t go his way… in any scenario.

He giggles a lot more than his brothers but absolutely cackles hysterically, and a lil pitchy, when someone reaches for the neck and armpits.

Tries to fight John when he tickles him, he knows he teases and Arthur absolutely cannot handle it.

He half heartedly fights Finn if he tries it but allows him to (within reason! He can’t handle much) so he has a fair chance.

Really tries to fight Tommy but fails every. Single. Time. But his hands are too quick and absolutely make him dissolve into cackles.

Worst spots are; neck, armpits, sides, ribs. (But face it, as much as he’d rather unalive than admit it… he’s ticklish everywhere)

Ler

Like John, he is an absolute menace! Being the older brother he has to be.

He knows how to pin his Lee perfectly to allow access to all their worst spots.

Favourite person to tickle is John as he likes to convince himself that John is the most ticklish Shelby brother.

Finn Shelby

The youngest, lil bean has always been hella ticklish but in comparison to two of his older brothers, it’s hard to beat their ticklishness.

The thought of being tickled always makes him have slight butterflies and nerves. Even the worst makes him antsy and can’t stop fidgeting.

Part of him doesn’t really mind it.

Absolutely will mix between shrieking and going into hysterical silent laughter when his worst spot is targeted.

Teasing ruins him. He absolutely cannot stand it, a slight ‘aw does that tickle’ is enough to send him giggling into oblivion.

Despite not being the most ticklish, he is the one who is most likely to be ganged up on by the rest of his family… they just like to see him smile and hear his bubbly laugh.

Worst spots are; feet, thighs, bellybutton, armpits (but again, pretty much everywhere)

Ler

Honestly, slightly inexperienced as his brothers over/power him easily, however, he does still manage to get good reactions out of them!

He is quick, nimble and is able to navigate where to tickle next before his lee has managed to block themselves from the tickles.

Quite smart in the way he pins his lees down.

Ada Thorne

Lee

Not as ticklish as most of her brothers but much like Tommy, she still has her tickle spots.

Definitely has a very bubbly laugh and can shriek if her armpits or feet are touched.

Ler

Doesn’t get involved in too many tickle fights but when she does, my gosh she can get her lees to scream for their lives for the tickles to stop.

Leaves her nails ever so slightly longer than average so it absolutely wrecks her lee.

Freddie was often the one she targeted most, as he was surprisingly ticklish. When they were hiding their relationship she’d be tickling him but as he laughed and shrieked loudly she’d challenge him to be quiet so they don’t get caught.

If she has to get involved in a tickle fight it’s mainly to save Finn and John from Arthur and Tommy��� she knows she’s too powerful in her words and her mind for them to attempt revenge.

We continue the tale of Mr Holder, who last time made an astonishingly bad sequence of decisions that ended in him accusing his son of theft and handing him over to the police.

And I definitely, in no way decided arbitrarily that other characters were guilty. There was evidence. I presented it.

Mary did fail the vibe check. Although I do sort of support her given that a) she was stealing from the state/the royal family, and it's not like they can't afford it b) apparently her uncle wants her to marry her cousin and c) I want her to break out of the conventional Victorian gentlewoman mould the narrative is painting her into.

Sure, if she's guilty, she's causing a national crisis, but really Bertie, Prince of Wales, did that already, she's just leading everyone else's dumb ideas to their inevitable conclusions. Can we really blame her for that?

Yes, we probably can. And it does seem likely that the (not at all an archfey) Sir George Burnwell may be manipulating her into it, which would detract from her agency in the matter.

I suppose it could still be Lucy the maid, but I still think it's more likely that Arthur is covering for Mary.

Also, she doesn't go out and Sir George Burnwell has been around 'several times lately'. Yep.

But yeah, this does twist it more towards a 'Georgie has been manipulating and grooming a young sheltered girl' and less 'Mary is breaking out of her societal prison with a jewel heist.' Pity.

“Terrible! She is even more affected than I.”

Yeah, he took the jewels and ran off and left her.

Well, let's all hope he dies in a shipwreck.

Guy's too damn honourable for his own good. Refuses to lie, refuses to condemn the woman he loves. It would be romantic if not for the whole... cousins sort of raised as siblings thing. She calls your father 'dad'... that's weird. Maybe not weird for the time. But it feels weird.

“What did the police think of the noise which awoke you from your sleep?” “They considered that it might be caused by Arthur's closing his bedroom door.” “A likely story! As if a man bent on felony would slam his door so as to wake a household."

I love how outraged Holmes is by this theory. The exclamation mark is perfect. Of course, the door might have been slammed by the wind, but then you wouldn't go and steal the gems immediately, you'd wait until you were sure people weren't getting up.

I confess that the guilt of the banker's son appeared to me to be as obvious as it did to his unhappy father, but still I had such faith in Holmes' judgment that I felt that there must be some grounds for hope as long as he was dissatisfied with the accepted explanation.

Once you have jumped to a conclusion, any evidence to the contrary, no matter how ridiculous it may make your theory look, must be completely dismissed.

I'm not being fair. Caught holding the remains of the coronet is not a good look. But if they can't find the missing beryls, then clearly someone else must be involved at least.

Disregarding my presence, she went straight to her uncle and passed her hand over his head with a sweet womanly caress.

The phrase 'sweet womanly caress' upsets me on a fundamental level. But also it makes me really want Mary to be the villain of the piece. Like, I'm 90% sure that Burnwell has done a runner, but I want Mary to have set some part of this in motion just so she can scream and go a little feral, y'know, as a treat.

I kind of want her to catch up with Burnwell, maybe make sure the police catch him with one of the gems, then take the other two and go off on her own.

“But I am so sure that he is innocent. You know what woman's instincts are. I know that he has done no harm and that you will be sorry for having acted so harshly.”

Woman's instincts or... knowing he's innocent because you're the one who is guilty?

“You have a maid who has a sweetheart? I think that you remarked to your uncle last night that she had been out to see him?” “Yes, and she was the girl who waited in the drawing-room, and who may have heard uncle's remarks about the coronet.” “I see. You infer that she may have gone out to tell her sweetheart, and that the two may have planned the robbery.”

But why would Arthur protect the maid? Also, I feel like Mary is a little too eager to push the possibility of Lucy's guilt here. She adds that bit about the drawing-room all by herself. Yes, she seems concerned about Arthur, but still... she's very much been leaving all the breadcrumbs about Lucy.

Lucy makes sense as a suspect apart from why Arthur would be covering for her. Unless offpage they are having a romance, despite him having canonically proposed to Mary multiple times, then I just don't see that happening. But then we have also been told that canonically Mary dislikes Burnwell. There is clearly a secret romantic relationship somewhere in this tale. I'm inclined to think Burnwell (who has been noted as a wrong'un) rather than Lucy.

“Which key was used to open it?” he asked. “That which my son himself indicated—that of the cupboard of the lumber-room.”

If Mary locks up at night, she also has access to all the keys. Just saying.

“Then I will.” Holmes suddenly bent his strength upon it, but without result. “I feel it give a little,” said he; “but, though I am exceptionally strong in the fingers, it would take me all my time to break it."

Even Holmes, who once bent an iron poker back to straight again, cannot break off a part of the coronet on his own. So... struggle.

"I understand that you give me carte blanche to act for you, provided only that I get back the gems, and that you place no limit on the sum I may draw.”

Considering the sums of money involved in this story, I fear that Mr Holder is going to be left bankrupt even if he does recover the jewels. Buying them back might be the only way to recover them. But maybe he won't have to actually buy them, just pretend to be willing to buy them in order to lure Burnwell in. (I'm pretty sure Francis Prosper, the one-legged greengrocer is not involved, but I hope he and Lucy are happy).

He hurried to his chamber and was down again in a few minutes dressed as a common loafer. With his collar turned up, his shiny, seedy coat, his red cravat, and his worn boots, he was a perfect sample of the class.

And Holmes is in disguise again! Always fun to play dress up. I assume he is fact gathering in order to work out where Burnwell is and how to reach him to try to 'buy' the gems, but I have no idea why this particular disguise is the way to go.

I'm not sure how happily this can end, as the coronet itself has already been broken, so there is clear evidence of it having been tampered with. I fear that Bertie is going to have to have a little chat with his mother about this. Clearly it's going badly so far.

headcannons for alfred, Romano, and a little bit about Toris

y’all like these so… yeah Brain time anywho-

Alfred is very clingy and affectionate but tries his best to respect any set boundaries placed by Freinds on affection, especially since he knows his strength can potentially hurt people-

- However, he does not know these boundaries unless they are clearly stated because either he does ent realize because the adhd and differences in processing, or because he notices something but overthinks it to the point where he just thinks he’s being irrational.

that’s one of the reasons he became so close to Mano so quickly, romano takes no shit from anyone because he’s done doing so. He’s sets his boundaries very quickly and directly and doesn’t try to sugarcoat the fact that someone has made him uncomfortable. Some people perceive this as him being anisocial or pushing people away, but if you respect the set boundaries and just get to know him you see the true Romano and eventually some of those boundaries begin to dissolve a little bit.

romano dissent like affection from anyone he’s not super close to. He makes that clear. Alfred respected that as much as an over affectionate person could, by finding different ways to express affection. Offering fistbumps and high fives as opposed to hugs. Not taking up too much space on the couch so Romano can have his personal space. Eventually as they became closer while living together Romano started being more open to affection, leaning on people, offering hugs, ruffling Alfred’s hair, though most affection initiated by him it was still a change. Romank also showed affection in different ways, checking on alfred so he didn’t iverwork himself, helping Tori’s cook in the kitchen, showing his art to the others, opening up about his past, giving occasional compliments, hanging up in Poland when he tried to call Toris because damn that bastardo is so annoying.

though Romano is also bad seeing other peoples emotions sometime. For alfred he processes differently and grew up with rather non-expressive, yet dramatic people. He was raised to be a weapon and a recourse who could handle public relations, and to Arthur that didn’t involve teaching him how to read emotikn… thank god Gilbert came around. Anyways, Romano had the exact opposite. He grew up with hyper expressive Antonio and Lovino. he was raised to express his opinion as opposed to repressing emotion. However that mean he’s used to just easily being able to read people and so when he can’t he tenses up( one of the reasons he doesnt like Ludwig). Because of all of this, Toris is usually the one to help them read people, giving them a look to convey a negative or positive emotion. He tries to communicate effectively and express when he has the energy.

Though, that’s not to say that alfred and Romano are bad at emotions or that Toris is amazing at them. Toris feels that he needs to resolve every conflict and miscommunication because of his history with Russia who could be slightly temperamental if accidentally spurred. Because of this he get involved in exhausting unnecessary drama and is rumored to be dramatic himself by the other countries. Alfred overtime notices many small details about people like their stims, hyperfixtations, sounds, ect. This helps him figure out what they’re feeling and what he can do to help form his personal experience and patterns in their behavior. Some find it off-putting but it can be endearing. Romano will talk to people the cares about when he thinks they’re upset and gives them a chance to vent. He gives the vibe of a someone who’s done with life, but really cares about people, and those things combine into what Toris and alfred call parental Romano. He tells them their feelings are valid, gives them a game plan, offers emotional support or to just stay with them or get someone else who may be better equipped to handle the situation. His pep talks are a little bit blunt but that can make them funny at points.

nowadays, the three of them are all very comfortable with eachother. So comfortable that some countries suspect they are together. after all, how could anyone ever tolerate Alfred’s forehead kisses, and hugs, and overly-friendly personality if they weren’t dating him. Or tolerate romanos smart ads comments that get barks of laughter out of the other two. Or Tori’s’s frequent well being checks all the time?! I mean really it’s a wonder. Though the rumor of them dating began to spread quickly when they were found late to a meeting, all in a cuddle pile on the pullout couch bed in alfreds hotel room I. Front on the tv, alfred “sleep hugger” jones holding Romano closely to his side which Romano is comfortably slumped into, while toris is lying down , head laying on Alfred’s thighs, wrapped In a blanket, with Alfred’s hand on his head as though stroking his hair.

francis of course was the one to find them. Of course, he also started the rumor. However to everyone else who personally knows the three like Kiku and mathew, they all know this is normal for the them. ( or is it more…) idk , ships it if you want and don’t ship it if you don’t. I personally think it’s a really cute shop though I just see this as really good friends. ( though that’s mainly because in my hetalia storyline that’s in my head I gave alfred and oc bf so….yeah) just dudes being bros, living together, cuddling, being all cute to impress eachother…

I love Rdr2 with all my heart but when i play it i don’t have that “wild west” feeling because of the setting. With Rdr you really get that western vibe because the whole game is set around New Austin, West Elizabeth and Mexico which really give off that western feel to the game. It sucks because when you finally unlock that region of the map in Rdr2 there’s practically no content there so it just feels empty. If the rumours about the remaster/remake are true i will be so excited because Rdr was my entire childhood 😭❤️ I still remember spending my entire days in the house in the living room and playing Rdr on my brothers Xbox 360 😂

LONG post ahead because I'm obsessed with Rdr 1. You described my feelings perfectly! People don't realize that Red Dead 1 is a true Western. It (as you probably already know) is based on the Spaghetti Westerns. For those who don't know, those are the films with Sam Elliot, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Paul Newman, Robert Redford, etc. You all may have heard of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. If not, I guarantee a lot of you have heard the theme and not known it. Here it is. It's also where the third pointed guns come from. (I think) Yeah, people don't realize that the game is lonely on purpose. This game takes place when ALL the outlaws are dead except for a few - and that John (Who retired), Javier (Who seems to not really be doing too many outlaw things at the time.), Bill (who is being a full-on evil bastard of an outlaw.) and of course, Dutch. Spaghetti Westerns are meant to show men with gruff exteriors, but good hearts. It's a shame that people won't try it out and, in my opinion - complain too much it's not like RDR 2 and not anything Arthur related, or the graphics suck. Like, really, people? I love rdr 1, and I actually like the game better than rdr 2. I love the missions, and the soundtrack is amazing. (Rdr 2 has an AWESOME soundtrack, too, but it's just different.) The side characters are just hilarious, and there are some truly heartbreaking moments to balance it out. I cried so much when John was finally able to return home and then the end, of course. It was brutal. It was the first time I ever cried over a character in a video game. I truly like Arthur, but I really like John better, and I wish Rdr 2 didn't do him so dirty. I understand he is younger and was an ass- but they really didn't do much with him. : / It's caused the fandom to think of him as the laughing stock when lots of magazines at the time voted him as one of the best-written video game characters of all time. (This was before rdr 2, of course.) John's voice then was just...excuse me while I thirst. It was different than it was in rdr 2 as you know. So yeah, you really know how to make me blab. lol

i’d  argue  arthur  is  as  lawfully  good  as  they  come.  he  believes  in  right    &    wrong,  he  believes  in  good    &    bad.  i’ve  always  thought  it  would  be  wonderfully  fun  to  say  when  arthur  was  younger,  he  had  a  leather  -  jacket  wearing,  smoking  in  hallways  rebellion,  but  he  just  isn’t  built  that  way.  arthur  was  born  a  fuddy  duddy,  and  he’s  learnt  to  be  comfortable  with  that.  it  works  for  him.  that’s  not  to  say  doesn’t  completely  disagree  with  rebellion.  i  think  for  arthur  that  morality  is  less  about  strictly  following  rules,  and  more  about  only  ever  bending  them  for  a  selfless  purpose.  at  his  core,  he  believes  in  being  fair  and  in  being  true,  and  above  all  else,  protecting  those  values.  unfortunately,  this  isn’t  always  necessarily  a  positive  trait.  while  it  is  on  paper,  there  are  times  when  it  can  make  him  unintentionally  judgemental.  arthur  finds  it  difficult  to  see  the  grey  areas  that  other  people  have  had  to  face    /    that  it  hasn’t  always  been  as  simple  as  right  or  wrong  for  some  the  way  he  has  been  for  him.  he  tries,  but  it  doesn’t  come  natural.  

does  your  muse  have  a  “type”  of  people  that  they  prefer  to  enter  relationships  with?  is  their  type  generally  compatible  with  them,  or  does  the  dynamic  tend  to  be  toxic?

this  is  a  relatively  easy  question  to  answer  when  it  comes  to  romantic  relationships;      his  type  is  molly  weasley.  there’s  never  really  been  any  other  person  for  arthur.  perhaps  a  couple  of  childhood  crushes  on  faces  whose  names  he  no  longer  remembers,  but  ultimately?  it’s  always  been  molly.  they  met  when  they  were  young    &    he  just  knew.  he  still  knows,  never  doubting  it  for  a  single  second.  if  we  were  stemming  towards  people  arthur  has  more  platonic  relationships  with,  such  as  friendship  or  colleagues,  i  think  the  most  important  thing  he  looks  for  is  honesty.  they  don’t  have  to  hold  the  exact  same  values,  but  a  truthful  approach  is  very  important  to  him.  i’d  say  due  to  this,  he  does  generally  lean  towards  compatibility.  people  he  gets  a  good  vibe  from.  the  man  really  has  little  patience  or  time  for  toxicity.  

what  is  your  muse’s  fashion  sense  like?  are  they  able  to  dress  the  way  they  want  to?  what  would  they  wear  in  an  ideal  world?

i  don’t  think  there’s  a  whole  lot  of  sense  in  it  in  general.  for  the  most  part,  arthur’s  wardrobe  is  old  reliables  he’s  owned  for  years.  he  rarely  invests  in  anything  new,  though  may  occasionally  browse  a  thrift  shop  for  the  occasional  fun  find.  fashion  isn’t  overly  important  to  arthur  and  in  general,  his  idea  of  fashion  isn’t  stylish  as  much  as  things  that  make  him  smile;      a  ducky  tie,  bright  colours  that  don’t  always  co  -  ordinate  and  of  course,  as  we  all  know,  much  beloved  knits  provided  by  molly’s  talented  hands.

I love the parallel of the two groups gossiping over dinner. ^_^ I'm quite proud of those panels.

Wall o' text on dating history and my musings on it for you below the cut, as explained to me by my grandmas and other eldery folks who lived it, along with info from a pile of books I read when I was a teen.

The dating model in the comic is what it used to be like in American society until fairly recently. (Gen X ish) It wasn't polyamory, because "Dating" someone wasn't considered a committed relationship at all, and you may or may not know how many partners your date has. Dating was just doing things with someone who caught your interest to see if you clicked. A Vibe Check, really.

(I'm not poly, but according to my friends who are, the ye olde model wasn't poly because of that reason.)

This is where we get the term "Going Steady" and "Main Squeeze" from. Dating was non-committal, and from a societal standpoint didn't mean much of anything. After a few dates you would keep or discard people from your main dating pool, and slowly whittle down your results. A Main Squeeze was simply your first pick, or your preferred dating partner. Going Steady with someone implied exclusivity, and was usually just a precursor step to getting engaged.

This is why, when reading/watching old media, people are so surprised when someone is single. It was very uncommon for people of a certain age to be single, and why society tends to default to assuming someone is gay, because that wasn't something you talked about back then. Also, if you pay attention, they ask, "Does s/he have any boy/girlfriends?" They ask in the plural.

According to my grandma, it was considered rude to say how many, even if you knew. The polite answer was, "They've got a few," if they had more than one, and to outright tell the interested party if the person was going steady with someone else.

A prime example from literature that many people are familiar with is Lucy from Dracula. She had three boyfriends, but that wasn't seen as strange or wrong in any way. She was from a good family, pretty, sweet, rich - Of course she would have three boyfriends! And we know she went on dates with all of them, and they all knew about each other. We know John didn't have any other girlfriends, and while it's unlikely that Arthur or Quincey had others, it's not out of the realm of possibility.

So why am I going on about this? Because the people I've spoken with who lived it (and still do, in places) talk about what I think is the very best part of it - You learned to deal with rejection and set boundaries at a young age. Being rejected or dumped sucked, obviously, but it wasn't seen as a huge deal from a social standpoint because it happened to everyone, usually many times over. No one made fun of you for it, and once the sting passed, you tried again with someone else. You also learned to say No if you weren't interested, and hopefully how to dump someone nicely. Of course, being pushy was (and still is) considered creepy and bad form.

Compare this to today, and, well... This is why women give men wrong phone numbers and fake names. You used to not have to do that. The vast majority of the time a simple "No, thank you," was enough, and it never crossed your mind that you might get murdered for it. On the other hand, giving someone your contact info (solicited or not) was simply stating interest. Nothing was guaranteed, and that was understood.

I think that's a healthy way to go about it, and my little vision of the future would be better with those attitudes. Obviously the Ye Olde model is based around monogamy, with marriage and kids the final goal. Cal uses that for himself because he's monogamous, but a polycule could form with this model just as easily!

I'll leave you with how my grandma explained it to me, which is a great metaphor:

If you want to enter a rose into the county fair, you don't trim all but ONE bud off the bush and spend months trying to make it perfect! You prune as you go, because some of them might have a bug in there, or be weak, or just not bloom at all. Most of them will be okay, but some will be really nice. Those are the ones you pay attention to, and take special care of. Eventually, one of them will stand out as the best.

DC characters I think Battinson!Bruce would get along with:

Huntress(Helena Bertineli): Yes she kills people, but she’s compassionate and he appreciates that. He kindly asks her to tune down the murdering and she did, so know she has a room at the manor and is invited to all festivities.

Koriand’r(Starfire): Battinson ain’t no xenophobe! He here’s about how this CHILD escaped all that horrible stuff and immediately cares deeply. She is also “friends” with his kid so he can’t adopt her but she is invited every year for the Holidays-along with any other Titan who can’t go home-because no kid is alone if he can help it. Kori probably messes something up and thinks she ruined Christmas and he’s just like “I don’t celebrate this, its fine.” He’s just glad that she isn’t worried. she’s also his favorite in-law

Martian Manhunter(J’ohn J’onzz): J’ohn doesn’t judge Bruce for being socially inept and awkward, and they can talk about the mission without talking about their personal lives because J’ohn doesn’t pry. Its because of this that Bruce actually does open up to J’ohn.

Aquaman(Arthur Curry): Look, Arthur is super laid back and relatively upbeat but he isn’t to upbeat and doesn’t get in the way. His laid backness is also contagious, as everyone in the JL knows, so Bruce untenses a little. Aquaman does ask personal questions but he isn’t judgemental, when Bruce responds that his relationship with Selina is “complicated.” Arthur just nods his head and says that “Its like that, but you’ll be alright.” Its better than everyone else trying to fix his relationships.

Artemis Grace/Bana-Mighdall: She does not give a shit, but is knowledgeable, caring, and a good conversationalist(she is shut up) yeah its awkward because of the murder but she’s an Amazonian and that’s not his business, and when she’s in Gotham she holds it back. He’s happy for Jason.

Wink: Battinson understands that fighting fascism requires extreme methods, so yeah some people died. His real concern and the reason he is hitting a table is WHY ON GOD’S GREEN EARTH DID THESE CHILDREN PUT THEMSELFS IN SO MUCH DANGER!!!! But he can’t help but admire it. Also they all need to go to a hospital, and by the time that is done this hyperactive child has in depth explained the Percy Jackson trilogy and asked several times if he has any pets. As much as he doesn’t what to admit it his real cause for concern is that they are so similar, and that worries him. And someone needs to protect her, she doesn’t deserve to fight like this but she will, just like Dick did. And yes she stole his car but Jason did that and Jason is a good kid. Besides he should really check in on the revs, they still haven’t bought vegetables, and before he knows it the adoption paperwork has been filed, Selina gave them another cat for the ship, and The Aerie has received the most terrifying shovel talk of their lives.

Stephanie Brown(Spoiler): How can he not love this kid??? She really became a vigilante on her own because of her dad’s actions!?!?! Tim really get his relationship in order or else he will have a new sister. Doesn’t help that Steph reminds him of Jason, more of a reason to keep an eye on her, just in case you know,  he can’t fail again...

Flatline(Nika): Goth recognize Goth, and this girl has the vibes. The murder is bad, but he’s confident she can do less, Damian is probably a good influence. And besides maybe she can teach Damian some things. Talia may not approve but he does.
