as a big rhythm game person i get a little pissed off when pjsk fans who obviously arent that into rhythm games complain about the engine or charting or whatever.

obviously you dont have to like rhythm games to have on opinion, i firmly believe the game should be accessible to anyone who wants to play it. theres a conversation to be had about gatekeeping and i think pjsk does have a few things to work on in that regard!!

but it gets to a point where you have to recognize that you probably just dont like the genre. charts being difficult to ap!! is a staple!! theres a reason why there isnt much of an incentive other than bragging rights, in most games there arent rewards for anything other than being able to know youve improved and accomplished something!!!

flicks can be annoying but i literally dont want to imagine how boring the gameplay can be without them. i much prefer the occasional missed flick than contant, repetitive jack notes. same with trace notes

youre allowed to have opinions and feelings and dislike the gameplay and even the genre, but you have to remember that 1) youre playing a rhythm game. nobody is forcing you to continue if you dont like rhythm games, and 2) real people are making this game. i can withstand some people being annoying about it, god knows im annoying too and its not hurting anyon, but once you start being disrespectful towards the game designers and charters, and honestly the artists and vas and writers, everyone working on this game, i cannot just sit still and let you keep complaining. theres a thin line, and i feel we all need to be more cautious of it. criticism should be encouraged but dont just be an asshole

hello! so ive been seeing this around, and i feel like your defense of mitsuba isnt entirely accurate, so as a color theory (and character design) fanatic, id like to share my opinion on this :3

so first of all, you are not entirely wrong! mitsubas colors do shift a lot from s1 of the anime to his redesign (ashk s1), which makes him look a lot more like your example palette as shown below.

although, as you can see here, one thing is present in both designs- one of mitsubas most prominent colors is actually orange! yes, pink is much more present in his new design, but provided your example was of two complimentary colors (pink to green with a light orange midtone), neither of you are entirely accurate.

also, yes, i wrote that mitsubas pastel pink is red, because that is how it appears on the color wheel. it is a lighter red, which is a more natural pink than the actual pinks presented in his designs, which are shades of magenta :3

another thing to note is your example. lurantis isnt exactly a good defense in my opinion, because despite being of similar colors lurantis is much more balanced than mitsuba, due to the color distribution. lurantis, from my rough estimation, is about 40% dark pink, 40% light pink, 10% white and 10% green (not including the pupils) which is good color distribution, it makes for a clear design with good color balance. mitsuba however, is 60% pink, 30% orange and 10% green. thats only looking at the color chart. in reality, mitsubas greens are barely present, only appearing in his piercing and in his pupil if we look at official art. its imbalanced, and makes you go “hey thats weird, why doe he only have green there?”. basically, lurantis actually proves anons point in a way, because it shows that mitsubas color distribution is actually imbalanced.

as for the pinks themselves, i agree with anon. mitsubas anime colors are rlly washed out, which paired with this style, makes him look less appealing. i think aida executes this much better, because shes able to work with more colors and better understanding of the style, which leads me to- the inconsistency accusations:

if u look here, i took an older drawing of mitsuba paired with a new one, took out color swatches and compared them. this lead to a tie, but even then, some colors did match the shade of the other closely, especially the matching colors, which leads me to believe aida does have a consistent idea of what mitsubas colors should look like. especially with the new drawing, in which there are actually more pinks distributed around his design (despite what the chart says) like in his hair which actually looks a lot better. the colors in aidas works are, while still being quite earthly, still very appealing and vibrant to look at, which just makes me sad that they weren’t incorporated well into the anime. but enough with the anime.

also, anon is allowed to dislike these colors. ill say it here- i rlly dislike the usage of oranges and the green(singular) in mitsubas design, it looks out of place and unappealing. just because this palette is largely considered to be appealing, doesnt mean itll be appealing for everyone. color is completely subjective despite humans gravitating towards certain meanings for it, hell, theres even something called ‘color blindness’ in which you cant see a specific color. your argument of “if this is pretty to ME it should be pretty to EVERYONE” is fundamentally nonsense because not everyone see colors the same. in fact, id argue that you going after this person because of a different color taste shows a lack of emotional intelligence as you would be willing to argue with someone who simply doesn’t have the exact same taste you have. even on that femme thing, some people view pink as a femme color, in fact that has been largely accepted by our society, there is no wrong with looking at it that way as long as you dont turn it into something hateful. it also doesn’t equal lesbian. it is simply a range of colors :-)

lastly, about the homophobia thing. i understand why anon brings this up. there is a notion in this community that everyone should like mitsuba this very specific way, and if someone strays from that way, they will immediately be called a homophobe. this has happened to me a few times before, and bringing this up doesn’t mean anon is being mean specifically because theyve been called a homophobe, it is because of the fear that they will be called one due to an opinion difference, and unfortunately, you fed into that fear. thats why i dont think anon is doing this without reason, they want to discuss something they dislike about a certain character without being accused of homophobia, but you did, and i fear that shows more on you than them.

I still dont go around searching qjj on social media because i dont want to get spoiled and i only like some fanarts that pop up on my pages. But sometimes i do see posts and they're ALLL about how complicated qjj is.... The other day i was reading the spoiler free reviews of qjj on storygraph and people who gave it 1 stars had all the same reasons, that it was too heavy and plot driven and complicated etc etc.

And i dont wanna sound mean or anything but if you think qjj is insanely complicated, you really ought to read more stuff outside your comfort zone.

Okay. So. I typically prefer to keep fandom things lighthearted and silly, but this one struck a chord for me. I will try to keep the rambles minimal and make a properly formulated response (I think I succeeded) to the point that I wrote my thoughts out on paper first. (4 A4 pages, I am so sorry. Long post.)

Your first point, I must say, I believe to be quite personal. Not everyone thinks the same way, so some things you find boring or redundant, someone else never thought of, and finds it very creative or unique.

Furthermore, creativity isn't easy. Some days it runs at you, arms wide open. Other days it hides away and you need to learn how to find it. You can't force people to be 'more creative'

Secondly, 'the godawful out of character headcanons'. A headcanon is just that. From the head. We make them to relate to a character, find comfort in them, or to hate on them. The whole point of headcanons, fanon etc. Is to tweak your little guy (literally for the RA fandom) until he is just right for you. Once again, personally, I find book Halt a fun and intruiging character, who spoke to me. I have come across fanon versions of Halt, such as autistic! Halt , that made me cry because I felt seen and understood. It healed a small part of me, simply because this was a character I was already connected to, simply because I liked him. Now a version of him was made that struck me to my very core. I have watched many pieces of media with original autistic characters, but none moved me the same way, because that initial connection was missing.

I understand that not all fanon is your cup of tea, it shouldn't be. There are a lot of takes I don't enjoy, but it's the internet. All you have to do is scroll once, and it's gone. Much like my previous point, you don't have to read the long essays. Just scroll on past them. And I don't think it's right to discard them as obvious. Not everyone thinks the same things. I have read quite some posts about things I had never even considered that put my mind in motion and made me come up with new fresh things. I don't think you can discard the newer or younger audience and complain about the lack of creativity in one post. Creativity is something that grows from interaction. A fresh pair of eyes goes a long way.

Sometimes you might read something and think 'this is obvious' but there might be a new apprentice out there who now looks at the series in a new way. Great perception and comprehension doesn't just spawn. It's a skill you learn by engaging in it. I am sure that you too, once discovered obvious things as something wholly new. They are growing the foundation of their thoughts and interactions, please don't bash and degrade them for a matter completely out of their hands. They didn’t pick when they were born, and can't force their learning curve. You don't condemn a flowerbud for not jumping straight into growing petals.

Now, I don't know if I am counted as either a fan artist, nor a 'settled' one at that. I still feel fairly new to active fandom (not sure if that's a shared opinion or a me-thing) and I definitively don't pump put fanart like crazy, but I've made some things. So I am not sure if I can respond to this properly, as I am not sure I am the intended audience. All I can say is that when I draw or make a piece, it's for me. Not the likes or the reblogs. They're fun, sure, but ultimately, fanart I draw, I draw for me. This is not instagram.

And then, the very last bit (I promise) about fanartists interacting less and less, and moving to other fandoms: it happens! This is not unique to RA, we are just a small fandom so you notice it a lot more. We can't all be obsessed all the time. Interests fluctuate. Some artists might come back, others might not. Fandom is a sea filled with waves. Why do you think there are more youngin's? It's the tide. I don't think it has to do with fandom as much as personal life. Because, to be honest, if a whole bunch of people shared your opinions, they would not leave the fandom. They would pull a Moses and split the fandom in two. A part that remains as it was, and a part that's new.

And if you want fanartists to stay and keep drawing stuff, maybe don't tell the younger ones that they are worthless because then they will never want to draw for RA again, and that's how fanart dies down.

So please, I kindly ask you to tone down your anger toward the younger apprentices. It's okay not to like all the changes and new things, but don't blame the people that do.

You can't dislike how little 'quality' and new things are being posted while simultane being mad at the younger ones posting new things with qualities the older ones might’ve already discovered.

Hating on fandom, that is the best way to kill discourse.

i genuinely hate going onto the rangersapprentice tag. no shade to anyone but ninety percent of the posts right now are completely empty of any creativity whatsoever. you have people posting the most godawful out-of-character headcanons, writing these looong essays on something that was incredibly obvious in the first place and didn't need an entire post dedicated to it or some mixture of the two. its so annoying. i get younger fans joined this year but some of these read like they were written by middle schoolers, come on.

this fandom used to be full of artists but most of them migrated away since their high effort posts would get the same amount of attention as someone saying some crap like "Headcanon: Halt is a total softie :) He likes pigeons" i dare people to go onto the profiles of well known RA artists and ask their opinions and you will see that i'm right.

Yk it really bothers me when I see people talking about eurylochus and the crew like they were the problem. It just feels like everyone is just missing the point. Yes they stopped listening to ody, yes eurylochus opened the wind bag, but that's what makes them so human.

Picture this, you leave your home to fight in a war. It takes literal years for this war to be over. You've lost friends, you miss your family, you've been through hell. You're starving and your captain tells you they found food on this island.

And then the cyclops happens. More friends die, you barely escape with your life, and your captain gives his name to the creature that killed your friends.

And everything after that is a direct cause of that decision.

So you hesitate to trust him. Yes he's smart, he's capable, he always has a plan. But he would do anything to get home, and you know that. So when he comes back to the ship claiming to have a bag full of wind, and when he refuses to let anyone near, refuses to trust his own crew, you get suspicious.

Its been about a decade by this point, and your captain seems to get more and more desperate to get home. A god is after you. Odysseus is forcing himself to stay away, all to make sure nobody touches that bag.

Its human, it's realistic, it makes sense that someone would open the bag. Because odysseus stopped trusting you, and so you stop trusting him. So you open the bag.

I just find it frustrating that people look at the crew/eurylochus as bad guys because of this, as pawns for ody to get home and thats it. The point of the show is that ody has become a monster, has dealt with and left behind his humanity. We, as listeners, root for him. We give him grace because of his circumstances. Because he's the main character.

But for some reason, people don't give that same grace to the crew. They're human, their circumstances are awful too. They have no idea if they will get home, they aren't sure then can trust their captain anymore. They question things. They make mistakes. They cause the deaths of others. It's human, its that feeling you get when you think that maybe hope is lost after all, it's what this story is about. Mistakes and loss and blame.

People dislike Eurylochus because he opened the bag. But odysseus gave the cyclops his name. And polites trusted the lotus eaters. And Athena told odysseus to be cruel to a fault. Nobody here is innocent, not really. And none of them knew better either. They were working with what they had, with the terrible circumstances at hand. It's no wonder they made mistakes. It's no wonder people died.

Why are we ignoring the humanity of the crew? Why are we arguing that they, or that eurylochus, deserved it? If the story was about them, odysseus would be seen as the bad guy. But he's the main character, so the others are stupid and wrong, right? All that matters is that odysseus gets home, right? Even if it costs the lives of his crew. His crew who stopped trusting him when he stopped trusting them. His crew who he sacrificed to get home.

I think we're missing the point here. Odysseus did become a monster, and although we cheer for him getting home and Penelope and Telemachus forgive him, we have to acknowledge that he did do terrible things. Those men will never see their families again. Why are we erasing that humanity in them?

Humans do bad things for the sake of saving themselves or the ones they love. That includes Odysseus. That includes Eurylochus. That includes the crew. And that includes every other character in this musical.

whats the point? its that its her. its still a different character, different in story, background, personality, but i WANT to play zelda and she can do everything link does, why does she have to be so restricted and be bend over backwards to find some new way to make her 'useful' when link gets to do basically everything no questions asked (the only thing thats hers is like .. sealing power and sacrificial maiden, which i find a little underwhelming to say the least), if theres no point to it why are there always modders that model swap link with someone else, and in that case it has even less impact bc its an artificial model swap with no changes to the story (which can and should still be different when its the vanilla game with a different protagonist... its still a different character), clearly theres joy in just the model being a different one- and that isnt even to mention the story possibilities, since, again, its stil a different character

if we ever (never ... i know who we are talking about here) get to play as ganondorf i want to him to be just as versatile and active as link is, if we got a point and click adventure game for him instead bc 'whats the point' id be disappointed too- you can find any sort of excuse/explanation for zelda to be singled out but the fact remains it tracks with how female characters are often treated, and that hits a very sore spot for me

i guess i am unfortunately one of those annoying people that want to see female characters be treated exactly the same as male characters, possibly bc i am myself afab but identify as agender and have a deeply personal dislike for anything 'traditional' feminine bc i cannot and never will be able to truly live as myself in real life, it influences all of my work, my work is as just as much as my opinion on this, very personal

eem I'm definitely late to answering this but hey I can always be insane about Glenn <3 anyways do you ever think about how much Glenn *needs* things to stay the same . that the second anything changes he just acts like it hasn't and if he doesn't bring it up no one else will and it'll all be fine and nothing has to be different and so he'll be ok right . when Morgan dies he keeps wearing his wedding ring and he keeps all her clothes in the closet . but there are no pictures of *her* in the house . or at least not many . because that's to close to actually bringing up the fact that she's gone, that there aren't any recent photos. he says she's still his wife, even though she's dead, and has been for *so long*, because otherwise he'd have to accept that she's dead and that things have changed. there's a million other things I could pick out about Glenn and his resistance to change but I like Morgan so I'm gonna just talk about her <3 thinking about Glenn getting with Jodies Morgan post s1 . at the end of season 1 he says he knows that's not his Morgan, and maybe in the back of his mind he knows that. maybe for a little while he can pretend that she's not Morgan, and he has his Morgan, and he can leave this other Morgan alone and continue living with the ghost of his wife he's lived along with for so long. but she's *right there*. and she is a constant reminder that he *doesn't* have his Morgan. and she's so similar to her though, and maybe she could *become* his Morgan, then things will be back to normal and he really will still have her and his family can be right again. and so often he forgets that this new Morgan wasn't always his. most of the time he can pretend that his Morgan is back. but then he references the first time Morgan caught him wearing her clothes, and she doesn't remember. because she didn't. and Glenn is forced for just a moment to remember that things are different. Morgan is different. he goes quiet for a long while before he can shake the feeling and again relax into this little lie hes built around his life in order for things to stay the same.

anyways yeah I think about Glenn and Morgan a perfectly normal amount as you can see .

okay i have one more post related to the esupuri stuff i posted this morning but like. if you dont like that the new characters are younger and want a game with older characters. respectfully play a different game. 18trip is right there with good character writing and most of the characters are in their 20s (day2 is obviously an exception but otherwise all of the characters* are 20-27 in age otherwise) (*kinari is also an exception in a weird way given he's [redacted] but like. its complicated). like if you don't agree with what happyele is doing with the franchise you can be upset about it but you also don't have to stick around. you don't have to keep playing or pay attention to what you don't like. and for the love of god don't main tag your fucking hate for the new characters and units.
