It's a bit hard to articulate it because it's just a hunch that I have. The thing with Jane Eyre is that the main character (it's a first-person pov) is a painter and she has these very vivid descriptions when it comes to nature and the passing of time. For example this is how she describes summer:
"It was not a bright or splendid summer evening, though fair and soft: the haymakers were at work all along the road; and the sky, though far from cloudless, was such as promised well for the future: its blue- where blue was visible- was mild and settled, and its cloud strata high and thin. The west, too, was warm: no watery gleam chilled it- it seemed as if there was a fire lit, an altar burning behind its screen of marbled vapour, and out of apertures shone a golden redness." (chapter 22)
and this is how she describes the winter/spring transition:
"Spring drew on: she was indeed already come; the frosts of winter had ceased; its snows were melted, its cutting winds ameliorated. My wretched feet, flayed and swollen to lameness by the sharp air of January, began to heal and subside under the gentler breathings of April ..." (beginning of chapter 9)
those descriptions can be characterized by these three features:
personification of nature, emphasis on the agency of nature (nature is not passive in any sense)
description of nature and time is used to bring attention to the narrative and to the mental/physical state of the character
description of nature and time often happens at the start of the chapter, to set the scene
those 3 features are pretty specific to jane eyre; i haven't read all of 19th c british literature but those descriptions are really representative of charlotte bronte's style compared to, say, charles dickens for example (another writer jkr has obviously read and drawn inspiration from)
and those 3 features also characterize the way JKR uses descriptions of nature/passing of time in HP. this quote has it all:
"October extinguished itself in a rush of howling winds and driving rain and November arrived, cold as frozen iron, with hard frosts every morning and icy drafts that bit at exposed hands and faces. The skies and the ceiling of the Great Hall turned a pale, pearly gray, the mountains around Hogwarts became snowcapped, and the temperature in the castle dropped so far that many students wore their thick protective dragon skin gloves in the corridors between lessons."
but that's just how she generally describes the passing of time, even when she uses less words. for example: "As a dull March blurred into a squally April, his life seemed to have become one long series of worries and problems again." (that quote goes so hard) (both of them are from ootp)
both jkr and bronte use descriptions of nature work as a narrative device in the exact same way. i don't think it's too far-fetched to assume bronte influenced her writing style as i'm convinced jkr has read jane eyre (it's jkr, come on, ofc she's read it) (i'm also convinced jkr has read wuthering heights and you can see this in hbp. i should re-read wuthering heights but in english this time cause maybe there is some stylistic influence too idk)
Tumblr media
Descent.
#i've been pastiche-ing jkr's writing style for my fanfiction#because i think fanfiction is only good if it's an actual pastiche that resembles the og writer's style as much as it can#and i have a whole doc where i compile hp quotes about nature and time passing#also i'm sorry for late reply i got covid and then i started a new job o7#for example this is how i pastiched it in chapter 3#'October came; rainy and covered in mist; dragging in its trail the rumblings of dead leaves;#the roarings of the wind and a remarkable sense of thrill as their first visit to Hogsmeade drew near.' (just replace the ; by commas)#<- i'm writing it in both english and my native language because i'm a nerd and this is my idea of fun....#i also compile her dialogue adverbs and the way she writes about feelings#she often combines a sound + a feeling (for example 'the whince of terror that echoed in his mind' - ootp) it's a very holistic perspective#it's like the opposite of mind/body dualism because her point is to show how a character's feelings become embodied#and impacts how they physically feel (instead of focusing on feelings as if they were some kind of ethereal ideas floating in the nether#like what the Romantics did)#what she also does with feelings is combine two of them so it creates movement (example: 'feeling of mingled defiance and relief' - ootp)#i think her writing style contributes to the general message of the books. because the whole deal with voldemort is that he is the literal#embodiement of mind/body dualism (in his action - he has shattered his soul into horcruxes + destroyed his body in the process)#(in his goals - to beat Death itself (superiority of the mind over the body))#while harry's journey (as the MC of a coming of age story) is precisely about learning how to process his feelings and accept them - both#the good and the bad#you can see this in how spells work in hp. spells like the patronus or the doloris ones require a strong hold over your feelings#(respectively love and hatred)#also! so cool that you're buying count of monte cristo. i'm currently reading the three musketeers myself

Hallo! I'm not sure if you've already discussed or talked about the Obliviation spell and how memory magic works in general in HP already, but I think that'd be pretty neat if ever.
Hello!
So, I talked a bit here about pensive memories and how I think there's more than one spell involved. Now, mind magic in general in HP aren't talked about that much, but I have some thoughts about it (like I have about everything in HP).
I'll start with something I mentioned here regarding mind magic in general, and that mind magic seems to be the opposite of spells like the Patronus Charm or the unforgivable cures. While the unforgivable and the patronus required emotion, Snape says Occlumancy requires a clear mind:
“Clear your mind, Potter,” said Snape’s cold voice. “Let go of all emotion. . . .” But Harry’s anger at Snape continued to pound through his veins like venom. Let go of his anger? He could as easily detach his legs. . . . “You’re not doing it, Potter. . . . You will need more discipline than this. . . . Focus, now. . . .”
(OotP, 535)
I assume all magic that has to do with the mind requires a clear mind to work correctly. Like, you can obliviate someone without a clear head, but you might delete too much or too little. The clarity of mind is necessary for control and precision which is also required for Legilimency (or to at least understand what you're seeing with it).
Now, we know that pensive memories as I mentioned here can be collected and physically removed from one's mind, as Snape does in his Occlumancy lessons with Harry:
Snape merely raised the wand to his temple and placed its tip into the greasy roots of his hair. When he withdrew it, some silvery substance came away, stretching from temple to wand like a thick gossamer strand, which broke as he pulled the wand away from it and fell gracefully into the Pensieve
(OotP, 533)
But Obliviation doesn't seem to work the same way. We know from Dumbledore that you can try and retrieve obliviated memories or memories buried by false ones that are implanted:
“Never,” said Dumbledore. “He gave, as I say, a full and boastful confession.” “But he had this real memory in him all the time!” “Yes, but it took a great deal of skilled Legilimency to coax it out of him,” said Dumbledore
(HBP, 367)
Lockhart, too, after obliviating himself, still retains some of his memories and mannerisms:
“We’re doing autographs!” Gilderoy told the Healer with another glittering smile. “They want loads of them, won’t take no for an answer! I just hope we’ve got enough photographs!” “Listen to him,” said the Healer, taking Lockhart’s arm and beaming fondly at him as though he were a precocious two-year-old. “He was rather well known a few years ago; we very much hope that this liking for giving autographs is a sign that his memory might be coming back a little bit
(OotP, 510)
This suggests that unlike what Snape did with the pensive Obliviate doesn't really remove the memory from the mind, just severs the connections to the memory within the brain, but it's still there and could still be retrieved partially (or even fully) by a skilled Legilimence (Like Dumbledore) or the mind healers at St. Mongos.
Even so, the memories that return aren't perfect. Dumbledore couldn't get the full memory back from Morfin's mind, likely because Tom hid certain parts better than others. Memories returning, even if they are still present and not fully removed, is no easy task. It requires careful coaxing to not damage the mind and memories further.
Then we have false memories that can be implanted:
“I see we are of one mind,” said Dumbledore. “Certainly, there are many similarities between this death and that of the Riddles. In both cases, somebody else took the blame, someone who had a clear memory of having caused the death —” “Hokey confessed?” “She remembered putting something in her mistress’s cocoa that turned out not to be sugar, but a lethal and little-known poison,” said Dumbledore. “It was concluded that she had not meant to do it, but being old and confused —” “Voldemort modified her memory, just like he did with Morfin!” “Yes, that is my conclusion too,” said Dumbledore.
(HBP, 438-439)
This magic is different from both Legilimency and Obliviation but requires the same clear mind (I assume). What I expect it does is the opposite of the spell that removes a memory entirely to be placed in a pensive. Essentially placing a new memory in.
Now, we know memories can be edited once they're outside someone's brain (be it a copy or the actual memory):
As several of the boys tittered, something very odd happened. The whole room was suddenly filled with a thick white fog, so that Harry could see nothing but the face of Dumbledore, who was standing beside him. Then Slughorn’s voice rang out through the mist, unnaturally loudly, “You’ll go wrong, boy, mark my words.”
(HBP, 370)
So, I think making a false memory works the same way. You take a memory from yourself (a copy) or remove a memory from the target, edit it as heavily as necessary, and then place it in someone's mind the way you would a removed memory. It is probably the same spell Snape used to return the pensive memories to him after the Occlumancy lessons:
and hurried toward the office door. As he opened it he glanced back at Snape, who had his back to Harry and was scooping his own thoughts out of the Pensieve with the tip of his wand and replacing them carefully inside his own head.
(OotP, 538)
Now, a bit more about editing memories. This is a complex skill and not something everyone is doing. Memories in HP are more like frozen fragments in time than just memories. We see it in SWM that Harry can listen in on the Marauders when Snape isn't near them. The memories are perfect in detail and "remember" more than a person naturally would. So, even though in SWM Snape wasn't listening to the Marauders, he still heard them in his pariphary. So their conversation was in his memory even if he couldn't actively recall it.
Basically, calling them memories is a little misleading. They are memories, but they also perfectly capture a moment in a way human memory almost never would. It captures everything your senses get from the scene, even the bits your brain would usually filter out because you don't need all that information.
That's why editing them is probably so hard. Because there is a lot of detail and it all has to be perfected if it's to be viewed in a pensive.
That being said, if the memory is placed in someone's mind without the intention of them viewing the memory outside their own recollection, it doesn't have to be perfect. As I mentioned, compared to how the pensive shows memories, human recollection is very flawed. If something is missing from your memory of a scene a few years ago, you won't get suspicious someone replaced it, you'll think you forgot a detail.
So editing memories into someone's mind is much easier than memories that go into a pensive. It's possible Slyghorn's edited memory wouldn't have felt edited inside a mind, since the brain would fill in the lack of visuals on its own (the brain just does things like that) but in a pensive, there is no human brain to finish his work for him, so the edit is glaringly obvious.
This is, like, all I have to say about mind magic off the top of my head, I believe, hope this answers your ask.

Since last year, I’ve had an idea for a Harry Potter fic rattling around in my head prompted by the realization that Lily’s death is necessary for the love-magic-protection that enables Harry to survive both killing curses, but James’s isn’t—what does the world look like if James Potter somehow survives? I came to the conclusion that because the protection spell that Dumbledore originally uses to protect Harry until he comes of age applies to those of Lily’s blood, he would still want him to live with the Dursley’s, and thus Dumbledore decides that the best course of action is for 21 year old, traumatized, newly-widowed James to fake his death. It’s safest for Harry, the Death Eaters already think he’s dead, and it’s really useful for Dumbledore to have a piece on the chessboard that both the Death Eaters and the Ministry don’t know about. James isn’t thrilled about this, but he’s too distraught (and too used to Dumbledore being right about everything) to argue. He’s really only a few years out of school, after all.
I know I had worked out all the logical kinks on this one at some point but I don’t really remember now—but the fic would involve James working as a sort of secret agent for Dumbledore, a wild card, if you will, while keeping an eye on Harry from afar. This James would be a little different than the one we’re familiar with—a bit more mature and serious, and of course absolutely wracked with guilt. He hardly resembles who he used to be after losing Lily, and he’s pretty dang desperate not to make any more mistakes, lose anyone else.
Snape of course is one of the only other people who would know James was alive, and the bad blood between them is as terrible as ever, as Snape would blame him for “letting” Lily get killed. (As if James doesn’t blame himself enough.)
Sirius would also know, as he was the first one to Godric’s Hollow after the attack and would have found James, but that doesn’t do much good after he’s arrested. The only way I can think to workaround the fact that Dumbledore would know Sirius was innocent if he had talked to James is if James was so seriously incapacitated after the attack on Godric’s Hollow (don’t ask how I don’t know. WAIT MAYBE IN THIS VERSION VOLDEMORT ENCOUNTERS LILY FIRST AND HER LOVE MAGIC EXTENDS TO BOTH HARRY AND JAMES??? OH MY GOSH???) that the “trial” occurs before James is lucid enough to talk and Dumbledore gives evidence against Sirius because he assumes he’s the Secret Keeper.
Other than fulfilling Dumbledore’s wishes and keeping an eye on Harry, James spends a lot of his time trying to figure out how to break Sirius out of Azkaban. Maybe he succeeds earlier than in the original series? He also is trying to hunt down Peter, of course—probably spots him in the newspaper like Sirius does. Or maybe he sees him with Ron while watching Harry?
Does Remus know that James is alive? I’m gonna say yes, but Dumbledore doesn’t know that. It makes no sense for him not to, he’s the only friend he has left.
I figure by Prisoner of Azkaban, James has had enough of Dumbledore’s nonsense and reveals himself to Harry—it would be pretty dang poetic if it’s during the first patronus scene, and it IS actually him casting it from across the lake. How would Harry react to finding out he’s been alive this whole time? Idk, it would be complicated, but man I’m getting emotional just thinking about it.
Also, while it does make sense that Dumbledore wouldn’t want James to use his original wand, I know it makes the most sense for James to have acquired a spare one somewhere—but the concept of James Potter with a Glock hit me over the head with a broom, and I’d love to somehow finagle it into making sense because can you imagine? Someone in the HP universe with a gun?? The comedic potential???

HP: Forbidden - Chapter Sixteen
Tumblr media
Parings: George Weasley x Female OC (Slytherin)
Description:
Rosalie Riddle lives in the shadow of her father, going to Hogwarts made her feel safe and happy and when she meets George Weasley she feels a whole new emotion. Follow her story from the beginning of her Hogwarts Journey.
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: Can fluff be a warning? Little bit of angst. Fred still dies, sorry.
P.s. So this is a rewrite from a fanfiction I originally wrote when I was roughly 16. It was awful, truly awful, but I adored the story so I decided to rewrite it ten years later. Enjoy.
Tumblr media
"I'm not going to talk about Cedric" Harry admits, a large group of us sat in the Hogs Head, I was the only Slytherin invited, which stressed me out, but also felt like a compliment. I sat snugly in between Fred and George. The Weasleys, Hermione and Harry were really the only ones I knew here.
Hermione and Ron wanted to form a new group, where Harry taught us Dada spells. I liked the idea, but I had no idea how we'd get it past Umbridge. She was everywhere, she had banned mostly everything. She even banned people from hugging. Everytime she caught me and George she'd use magic to break us apart. We were only hugging, I didn't see the problem.
"Is it true you can cast a Patronus charm?" A blonde Ravenclaw girl asked.
"Yes, I've seen it" Hermione answered. I didn't know Harry could do that.
Finally after lots of talking, we decided yes we needed to learn this stuff, but we had to work out where we would all meet.
"Are you sure she can be trusted?" A random Gryffindor asked, pointing towards me.
"Yes, she has proved herself trustworthy, and she is my friend so I'd appreciate you treat her as such" Harry spoke before anyone else could. It made me smile, I didn't realise Harry thought of me as a friend. I thought I was only here as a plus one for George.
_________________
Neville a boy from Gryffindor was the one to find us a space. The Room of Requirement. It was massive, and perfect for us. For weeks now we had been meeting every night, practising spells. Draco and I had stopped talking now, he had joined Umbridge's group. And I wouldn't join, nor would I give a reason why.
Today was our last lesson before christmas, I was trying my hardest to perfect my colour changing charm.
I held my wand up towards the vase in front of me and muttered "Colovaria" The vase changed from one colour to another. Happy with my progress I changed the colour of it a few more times before I became bored. I decided to turn around and watch the class. This had become something I loved, I was worried for when it would end. But learning new spells was great, and I had made so many friends. Luna was a personal favourite, she was bonkers, but I really enjoyed spending time with her, my Slytherin friends thought I was mental.
__________
Christmas came and went and we were back in the room of requirement, I felt as if I spent more time in here than in actual classrooms. I didn't mind all too much. Today Harry was teaches us Patronuses.
I was nervous to even try the spell. What if my memory wasn't happy enough. Fred and George had produced theirs, two little magpies were flying around the room, taunting me. I was so nervous.
I thought of the summer before, on my birthday sitting in the dining room with the Weasleys, I looked at my bracelet that George got me and with all the power within me I cast the charm. And to my surprise my patronus came out of my wand, it was a crow, flying around the room. I watched it happily.
"Look!" I giggle, watching the twins magpies fly around with my crow.
"Aw, they're friends" George laughed.
Bang
"What was that?" My patronus disappeared once my concentration was gone. The banging started again, it was coming from the door.
"Stand behind me" George whispers to me, holding me behind him, I poked my head around his side, and watched as the door suddenly exploded away from the wall. And Umbridge stood on the other side.
And things only got worse from then on, we were all put in detention, using those horrible quills.
I rarely saw George for the next few weeks, we were only allowed in our common rooms and our classes now. And to make matters worse, my exams were soon.
I studied alone in my room, only coming out for meals. I wasn't allowed to sit with George anymore. I had gone weeks without speaking to him, or any of my friends in the other houses. I wasn't speaking to Draco, I felt like he was a traitor at the minute.
__________
We all sat in the hall quietly taking our exams. I actually had a calm head, but my heart missed George. I filled in the questions on my paper with ease. I had studied a lot so I was completely prepared. Umbridge stood at the top of the hall, watching us all. It creeped me out a bit.
But something took her attention, something with a fizzle sound. She went to investigate. I wanted to watch her but also I was so close to finishing. But I soon forgot all about my exam when my boyfriend and his brother flew into the hall throwing their fireworks about, everyone threw their papers in the air, I copied. I'm sure we'd be allowed to retake them. I watched the twins sore through the air throwing fireworks left, right and centre.
Happily we followed the twins as they flew out of the school, throwing the biggest fireworks outside, we all cheered. But it dawned on me, it wasn't likely they'd be allowed back in the school after this. The thought scared me, so I tried to push it away for now and just enjoy this.
Soon the twins came back to the ground, George moved through the crowds until he got to me, and he hugged me tightly.
"I missed you" He grins at me.
"I missed you too" I say hugging him tightly.
"Rosalie, this was mine and Fred's last year here, we decided we're finally going to open our joke shop" He says, a sad smile on his lips.
I nodded understanding, I didn't say anything in fear that I'd start crying and I just held onto him. Scared to let go.

Hello. I'm here to offer some crossover ideas, especially if you're a potterhead or at least familiar with a few details from Harry Potter.
So I couldn't resist making art of my own Twst MC who attended Hogwarts and I thought to myself that HP!Yuu must be skilled in Care for Magical Creature or a magizoologist if they have beast-taming skills.
And imagine Yuu being a muggleborn and people at NRC are surprised. “You’re parents aren’t magical? Are you sure you’re not adopted?” Yuu getting mad at people who make fun of the magicless because of their own experiences with prejudiced purebloods.
I have also read a crossover fanfic where patronuses can defeat overblots. Just some food for thought.
Tbh Harry Potter got me into fandoms and my love for reading. But also muggleborn!Yuu would be a very intresting au 👀
See, I don’t think people would find Yuu’s parents being magicless odd. I mean, isn’t Sebek’s dad a magicless human? (Actually we don’t know that but I’m assuming so) ...wait no maybe that’s not the best example.
Well, either way, I guess people from NRC would still look down on Yuu for that. And it infuriates them. I mean, they have to deal with the prejustice from one magic school, now another? Ridiculous.
Also your headcannons of Yuu being into Care for Magical creatures or a magizoologist is perfect for the plot line. Yuu just loving all sorts of magic creatures and can name a billion facts about them. They basically adopt Grim and “tame” him. They’re so interested about how Grim works! They’ve seen a few magical animals that breath fire but never a cat! Not one like Grim.
And patronuses can potentially ward an overblot? :0 THAT WOULD BE SO COOL TO SEE. Just Yuu saying, “Expecto Patronus!” And an animal comes to attack the overblot.
Wojfenifen All the spells Yuu can use. It’s obvious that the first years don’t learn much about casting magic, so when they see that Yuu can expertly use magic and at their age? They’re super jealous.
(Yuu sorting everyone into Hogwarts dorms and sorting their friends back at Hogwarts into NRC’s dorms)
Super cool AU with a lot of potential content. 👌

My theory on magic in Harry Potter
What is magic in the world of Harry Potter? How was it created? I have some theories about that, if you are willing to listen.
Inherent and commanded magic
Every being possess a natural energy - a magical power, some stronger (wizards) or weaker (muggles, squibs) than others. This is so called "inherent magic" which you have since birth. Two kinds of magic use inherent magic of a person - a patronus spell and animagus ritual. Inherent magic can be a cause of illnesses and destructive phantom when suppressed (obscurus) or slow degeneration into the same animal you'd be if you were an animagus (maledictus). Both are wizarding disabilities.
Inherent magic is closely connected to person's body and its instincts, that's why those instincts give shape to an animagus or a patronus. Dark mark or Harry's scar also mean that person's inherent magic is marked, changed in some way. In Harry's case it can even give him inherent magical ability of parseltongue which is only obtained by those who have close kinship with snakes (and can only turn into snake animagi, in my opinion) and which wasn’t his own.
Purebloods believe that pureblood wizards have strongest inherent magic, it's one of the secrets behind their idea of supremacy. But in reality, just like genes, inherent magic may condense due to pureblood heritage – or it may become unstable, up to producing squibs. Muggleborn inherent magic may be weaker – or it may be very strong due to other, often mysterious, reasons. Squibs can see dementors due to leftover inherent magic of their parents.
Objects also have some inherent magic but (unless it's specially enchanted object) it's passive while human and animal magic is active.
Commanded magic
"Commanded" magic is a concentration of will that uses this magic or other source to direct it somewhere.
Commanded magic occurred naturally too, when wizard or witch wanted to do something (like light a fire) and it suddenly happened on its own, to their surprise. But this magic was still wordless, too simple and prone to accidents - it needed both more power to feed it and some kind of distinct direction marker to prevent mistakes. Someone figured out that speaking commands directed magic better. That's how, based on these impromptu words, first spells were created.
But wizards still needed something for fine-tuning magic. A tool. Someone figured that as much as pointing a finger was better and a bit later, a stick came into use.
But after using sticks and rods for a long time, wizards couldn't help but notice that people who used magic extensively looked more weak and ill than those who did not. And the reason was simple - they had used too much of their inherent magic.
Commanding one's inherent magic is not easy and taxing. They needed an additional source of magic power to prevent exhaustion. However, this opened a whole new can of worms - if one were to use an external source wouldn't that....be too difficult? Conflict with wizard's own energy? Was that really possible?
Indeed, first real wands were simply laughable. They often misfired and even served as cautionary tale not to use them at all. But with time, wandmakers really came into their own and Commanded magic as we knew it was born.
Wands
What is a wand? In my opinion, a wand is nothing else but a borrowed magic source from a magical animal. Animal source must have strong inherent magic preferably two or more times stronger than that of a human being.  But this also causes animal to have a magical resistance - remember dragons and their hide that is impenetrable for spells. That's why wizards love especially ferocious magical animals - the stronger their magical resistance is, the stronger their inherent magic is.
Wand wood, as also magical but less resistant substance, (due to low sentience) serves as a "leash" on an animal core, allowing one to command it. I also imagine wand wood to be a "receptive" substance and wand core to be "active" substance. Wand wood reacts to similarity in person's temperament and yields to them but animal core always needs to be tamed and similarity of a person with magical animal can only mean they would tame it better, not that animal source accepts a wizard. These two contradictory forces form a wand.
Wandless magic
Wandless magic is difficult because it uses your own inherent magic as a core to command and your own body as encasement.
Depending on use and user's level of  aptitude, it may be taxing or dangerous, or both. Wand cores, such as unicorn hair, tend to "wear down", according to Ollivander and there is no reason to think human bodies are different. However, there are people for whom this method is preferable - those who are naturally strong and possess a lot of energy. It's a shame we haven't seen a single truly wandless villain in HP books because that alone would be a statement on how strong they are. Riddle in his post Harry state is obviously no good without a wand - while still strong and possessing some inherent magic to an extent, he is mostly hollow inside and that's why he needs a strong core - Elder wand.
Spells
Why are spells in Latin? Pull up a chair, kids.
First of all, not all spells are in Latin. "Mimblewimble" - tongue tying curse and "alohomora" - door opening spell are not. Second, it's because even wizarding world is not free from the influence of Roman Empire which was.. literally everywhere. In medieval times, Latin was  "common language of Europe". Being old-fashioned, why wouldn't wizards use Latin?
But what about other countries, where there was no Latin influence?
Of course, those countries use different spells and that's the reason for Triwizard tournament - the three largest schools who are under, at least partly, Latin influence and who use Latin spells. In my opinion, it would be most wise for wizards to learn other magical languages because do you really want to be helpless in front of foreign wizards?
Technically, Harry Potter's spell books should have been called "Latin tradition spells". They are not universal! In fact, I believe that many english-used spells do not work quite as well abroad due to magical resistance of local creatures, objects, plants and people. (Maybe that's why Bill's curse breaking profession is so difficult).
Other magical languages are not taught at Hogwarts which is understandable (too big of a subject! There are also foreign transfiguration and potions, etc) but personally, if I could, I'd be a wizarding translator who knew spells in arabic, japanese, hindi, swedish and so on.
Next: Theory oh how spells are made (by Snape and others!) Stay tuned!

Part 2 of Harry Potter questions I had while watching. I forgot to post these sorry
Do wands work for anyone that makes a spell? I was under the impression from the wand picking scene in the first one that you have your own special wand and it likes you and only you and when someone that isn’t you uses it, it like freaks out and doesn’t work properly. But both Harry and Voldermonts are out here saying they need to use another person’s wand ??
If Harry was left with nice people (ie anyone that isn’t Vernon and Petunia), would that have altered the prophecy or would he still be the chosen one?
What does this girl mean when she says “show me that tosser of yours later” or whatever the line is ?? bc I know what my mind thought, but I just can’t imagine that’s acceptable to add to this kind of movie
When a horcrux is destroyed, is Voldermontana made a little less powerful? Or does his power stay the same, it’s just him getting closer to death?
Does a healing spell not exist? Why does a healing spell not exist? I understand why they wouldn’t resurrect people but to heal them??
What happened with Draco? He seemed to just disappear, I don’t remember seeing him again after the whole Room of Requirements (that’s what it’s called, right?) catching fire and Harry saving his ass ordeal. I know there’s a deleted scene of him helping Harry and they show him with Narcissa and in the 19 yrs later scene, but what happened? Idk his absence seemed kinda weird.
And some random comments I just had to share:
I took the sorting quiz a long time ago and it said I was ravenclaw, but I just took it again (I actually took two!) after watching the movies and understanding more, and they both said I’m a Slytherin. My patronus is also a falcon, which I’m super excited about, bc I’m also obsessed with Sam Wilson.
I loved these movies. I knew I would, I mean there’s no way they would be as prestigious as they are and be bad, but I’m still kinda amazed by the wizarding world. It’s been a while since a movie has made me feel the way these movies have.
The entire time I was watching the last one, I felt so much sadness and sorrow. And I knew what was gonna happen. I knew how it was gonna end, but it still made me feel so much. Them movie makers did a damn good job.
Except
I couldn’t take Voldermountain serious. I’m sorry. He’s so derpy. Maybe it’s bc I’m older, idk, but I really laughed at that bitch.
I went back and forth for a long time over who’s my favorite. I loved Severus Snape. I loved McGonagall. I really liked Neville. But what really sold me and has me confidently saying Ron Weasley is my favorite character was him shouting “that’s my girlfriend” and the face he makes running after the Slytherin Bitches (I forgot their names sorry) only to run back yelling “Fire!!” I literally died laughing. 174/10 greatness.
Catch me watching them at least two more times within my seven day free peacock trial. I really should buy them. Drop some good hp tiktokers I can stalk🥰

7-Year D.A.D.A. Syllabus (Professor!Harry AU)
I’m a sucker for details, so I made up a syllabus for all seven years of Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts (as I headcanon Harry would teach it) for the fic I’m writing. Figure that, since I already made it, I might as well put it out there. Feel free to use it — or parts of it — for fanworks of your own.
Two things!
For each year, I list topics to be covered and group some learning objectives or specifications/suggestions under each topic — but they’re not in order. Professor!Harry wouldn’t cover solely one topic at a time, but most likely group topics together and teach the necessary spells as the class went through activities.
I also made two lists of spells under each Year — one which lists the spells students would learn while in DADA class, and another which lists the spells that students might use in DADA class but which would be learned in either Transfiguration or Charms.
More essay-length notes included at the very end of the Read More, since this is already getting too long.
[Syllabus begins]
Year 1: What kinds of danger are there in the wizarding world? And how do you know something is dangerous?
“...Never trust anything that can think for itself if you can’t see where it keeps its brain! Why didn’t you show the diary to me, or your mother? A suspicious object like that, it was clearly full of Dark Magic--”

Notes
When making this, I tried to keep in mind
What Harry, based on his life experiences, might believe students need to learn
How difficult spells are to learn, canonically
What the Ministry expects Harry to teach them (and what will therefore be in their OWLs and NEWTs)
The purpose of the DADA class in general, and
How the rest of the classes in Hogwarts have been impacted by the yearly change in DADA professor
What do students need to learn?
The closest we can come to answering that first question is Harry’s experiences teaching Dumbledore’s Army. Unfortunately, we don’t see much of these lessons. What we do see tends to be combat-oriented — Harry tells the DA about a spell and then gives advice on their casting as they practice on each other. It’s all practical, no theory at all except for the books on the shelves in the Room of Requirement, and nothing on magical creatures (though this might be because he felt Lupin had already done a good job on that front).
Harry’s lessons to the DA were cut short, besides, just as they had reached the Patronus Charm — so we don’t know for sure what Harry would have gone on to teach them. I like to think that, if he was the professor, the answer would have just been — everything.
Everything he knows. Everything he’s used to defend himself.
He knows first hand that it’s not just about knowing the spells, that there’s a lot more to surviving than being a good duelist — he even says so outright when discussing the DA with Ron and Hermione. And I think that, as he continued to teach, his lessons would begin to reflect that.
The first thing that comes to mind — besides spells and combat — is physical activity. Learn how to dodge, get used to running, hone your reflexes, etc. DADA would be the PE of Hogwarts with Harry as professor. The second things that came to mind were wards and healing — things that are, admittedly, used far more creatively and often in fanfiction than in canon smh. Still, the canon use of them is there, and Harry relied on that knowledge during his camping trip from hell, so.
What’s on the OWLs and NEWTs?
Apart from just the things Harry would want to teach as part of DADA, there’s also whatever the Board of Governors expect him to teach — what will be on the OWLs and NEWTs.
Sometimes (most times? depending on your interpretation of Harry) this coincides with what Harry would teach anyway. However, I explain in this post why I think the Ministry would want to emphasize defense against magical creatures. I also imagine they would want the Legality section above taught at some point, though we know Harry found it horrifically boring in the fifth book.
The Review!!!! section in Year 5 is comprised mostly of whatever I deemed the minimum a student should know to not immediately die by the time they step out of Hogwarts + whatever the Ministry might want all students to know + the bare bones of defensive spells that one might use against a wizard.
All students take a DADA OWL because it is a required class for the first five years. At this point, students who are not interested in the subject and/or do not need a DADA OWL for their intended career will drop the subject. I tried to reflect this on the syllabus by making NEWT years more specialized — on the assumption that careers that require a DADA NEWT will also require specialization within the field.
How difficult is this class?
Harry would be a demanding teacher. I know a lot of people headcanon him as the fun teacher — and I do think a lot of his lessons would be fun, and he would try to make them fun — but I can easily imagine him getting annoyed when people don’t take his class seriously. The DA was voluntary, and everyone there wanted to learn and practice defensive spells; a lot of children in a time of peace would not see it that way. Many would drag their feet at the physical activity and complain about the hard work, the hard spells, and when are we ever going to use this anyway?
So I do think that, even when he isn’t actively trying to push his students, Harry’s DADA class would be hard. He sees himself as an average wizard — even though his teachers called him bright, even though people tell him he’s exceptionally good at defense — he thinks he’s nothing special, and he knows that if he can do it, you can too! So yes, he’d have high expectations and his class would be especially difficult if you’re not that into it.
Which is why some of the spells above are listed one year (or more!) earlier than the DADA class in canon presented them. Not that many, honestly. (The starkest difference is Homenum Revelio, which I listed as a Year 1 spell, but we only see Hermione use it canon in Deathly Hallows. But hey — canon spell difficulty isn’t mentioned; it could very easily be the case that Hermione simply hadn’t known the spell until then, or hadn’t thought to use it.)
We just don’t know very much about what makes a spell difficult. A recurring spell throughout this syllabus is the Patronus Charm — it’s listed under Spells to Learn in Year 3 and then continues being listed all the way through Year 7. That’s because it’s supposed to be an especially difficult spell (”beyond NEWT level”)... and Harry mastered it in his third year. So of course — if you’re following my interpretation of Harry — he would start teaching it in Year 3.
He might make allowances, given that apart from him, we only know of a few people who managed to cast it before their fifth year (Luna, Ginny, while in Dumbledore’s Army) and not while suffering the effects of a dementor, at that. So next to every reiteration of the Patronus Charm in the syllabus, I included what I think would be Harry’s minimum expectation of success.
DADA vs. Hogwarts
Why is the Knockback Jinx canonically taught in Charms class? This is complete speculation, but Flitwick (and maybe McGonagall) probably had to pick up the slack after a few years of the DADA professor position being cursed.
As the years went by and as Hogwarts expended all the competent teachers and scared away the rest, OWLs and NEWTs continued demanding the same results. Student performance on these tests must have steadily dropped, and I think spells that would have usually been covered by the DADA professor gradually shifted unto Charms class.
That might explain why Harry learned some offensive magic in Charms class instead of DADA — but the only reason I’m mentioning this right now is because I included a lot of charms in the Spells to Learn list that I’m quite sure were canonically covered in Charms class, but which I wanted Harry to cover earlier that Flitwick did. Oh well.
Concluding thoughts
This took way longer than I thought it would. Just... the sheer amount of time spent referencing the wiki, the Lexicon, the books... I checked the wiki’s specific references, too.
...But, hey, I had fun thinking about Harry Potter.

A/N: This is my first fan fic I’m writing mainly as a way to practice. This is a retelling of the hp books with an inserted character. Although most every character will be written about, this is mostly for the pro snape fandom. Please do not fear, although this is a severus x oc story, it is an incredibly slow burn as I do not intend for them to get together at all until after the final book events. Chapters will be posted twice a week.
This derivative work follows the events of the Harry Potter books by Jk Rowling and is intended as a fun way to practice my writing. Thank you for reading :D
Hey guys! Sorry I didn’t update last Friday! I’d been way too exhausted with a bad night’s sleep to write anything. I’m working on time management this month so I hope to have these chapters done before the morning I’m supposed to post them XD I miss being ahead by like ten chapters XD

Heather and Hermione sat by their salamander log staring at Ron and Harry laughing obnoxiously about something. She rubbed her hands over the fire and fed the salamander more dried leaves.
“When will they get over it?” Heather said, trembling under her cloak. It was mid-January morning and Hagrid had thought it a great idea to have them all sit in the chilly air and frosted grass feeding the fire-loving creatures some leaves.
Hermione shrugged, pulling her eyes away and setting her jaw. “They can be mad for however long they please. I’m far too busy to worry about them.”
Hermione was right. She was far too busy. Her workload had started to affect her sleeping schedule and every day they were spending less and less time together. They only really talked now during the classes they shared together and a bit after before parting ways, which left her feeling alone.
During Defense Against the Dark Arts Heather overheard Harry asking Professor Lupin about the lessons he had promised them. They were scheduled to work on it Thursday after dinner in the History of Magic classroom. She wrote that down and decided she didn’t care if he was mad at her. She deserved to learn the same spells as him.
The bells rang and Hermione and her packed their bags quick and left the classroom before Harry and Ron. They were halfway down the hall when Hermione’s bag ripped.
“Do you HAVE to bring all your books at once?” Heather helped her gather her fallen textbooks.
Hermione sat at the feet of a suit of armor and sighed. “Yes. You never know when you’re going to need something.”
Heather heard Ron’s voice as they exited the classroom.
“Does he still look a bit ill to you?”
Harry nodded. They were walking their way.
“What d’you think’s the matter with him?”
“Tuh,” Hermione rolled her eyes.
Ron and Harry paused and turned around to look at them shoving books into Hermione’s ripped bag.
Ron frowned at them. “Why’re you tutting us?”
She didn’t want to make their fight worse and quickly spoke for Hermione. “We weren’t. It was nothing.”
“Yes you were. I said ‘What d’you think’s wrong with Lupin?’ and she – ”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Hermione rolled her eyes again making Ron red with anger.
“Fine. Don’t tell us then,” Ron snapped. He pulled Harry with him and they both disappeared around the corner.
Heather looked at Hermione. “D’you… You know then?”
Hermione looked at her with narrowed eyes. “That he’s…”
Heather grinned. “The floating orb. And being sick every month.”
Hermione smiled. “Yes. The symptoms are practically the same as the text.”
That was their way of confirming to each other that the other knew as well, without giving it all away in case the other was only pretending to know. They finished repacking the bag and headed their separate ways. Hermione to wherever she normally went and Heather to the Slytherin common room to hang out with Pansy and her friends and Draco preferably if he was there.
Thursday came around and after dinner she made her way down to Professor Lupin’s office and knocked on the door.
“Come in,” he called back.
She opened the door and smiled. “Evening Professor.” He was finishing up grading some essays and smiled at her. “I was wondering if I could join Harry on his lessons? You did promise us both.”
He nodded, “Of course. I don’t see why not… er, I’ve noticed you two aren’t hanging out recently. Are you two alright?”
She gave her best smile. “Of course.”
He didn’t look too convinced but asked nothing more. Together they walked down to the History of Magic classroom. Harry was running late which was good, since he didn’t know she’d be joining him. She sat at a desk, looking at the carrying case Professor Lupin was heaving onto Professor Binns’ desk, when Harry entered.
“What’re you doing here?” he asked immediately.
Professor Lupin looked to her and she responded. “It’s both our lessons. We both asked for them.”
Harry rolled his eyes and made his way to a desk.
“Right then… I’ve found a boggart to work with – took some looking but I found it inside Mr. Filch’s filing cabinet. When we aren’t using it I’ll store him under my desk, I think he’ll like it in there. Are you two ready?”
Heather nodded and looked at Harry who tried his best not to grumble at her and nodded too.
Professor Lupin looked at them both. “Right... Harry why don’t you go first? Wands out.” He waited until their wands were out. “The spell we’ll practice is advanced magic – far beyond Ordinary Wizarding Levels. In fact it can be hard for even experienced wizards to get it right. It’s called the Patronus Charm. Heard of it?”
Heather nodded, “Yes. I have at least.”
Harry stuck his tongue out at her. “How’s it work?”
The question wasn’t aimed at her but she couldn’t help showing off. “It conjures a patronus. It’s like a shield that wards off dementors, among other uses.”
“Very good, Heather. A full patronus is a guardian, almost, and it doesn’t exactly ward them off… more so feeds them while you get away. It’s a projection of positive force that the dementors can feed upon – except the patronus doesn’t feel despair when being fed on.” He rested his wand in both hands and looked at each of them. “You two may not be able to conjure one, at least not first try. Keep that in mind.”
“What’ll it look like?” Harry asked curiously.
“It’s different for everyone, isn’t it? There’s no way of knowing until you conjure it.”
“Precisely. And to do that you must focus on a single, very happy memory.”
Heather frowned. A ‘very’ happy memory? Did she have any of those? She supposed arriving at Hogwarts every year is the happiest ones she has. Or maybe winning the house cup? That one was a good one.
“The incantation is as follows…” he cleared his throat and turned towards the case so they could copy his wand movements. “Expecto Patronum!”
“Expecto Patronum,” they repeated and pointed their wands like he was doing. Nothing came out of their wands.
Professor Lupin turned. “You’re both concentrating on your happy memories?”
They nodded and tried again. Heather focused on the feeling of seeing the castle for the first time after the summer holidays as the train neared Hogsmeade and it came into perfect view. “Expecto Patronum – Expecto Patronum – Expecto – ”
Something silvery swooshed out of Harry’s wand, like silvery gas. It was small, yet far more impressive than Heather’s nothing.
“Did you see that? Something came out! I almost had it!” Harry was smiling wide.
“Very good!” Professor Lupin nodded. “Heather why don’t you keep trying while Harry gives the boggart a go.”
She frowned and turned away, focusing on winning the house cup first year. Everyone was cheering and she’d earned enough points to keep them in the lead. She’d been so happy and proud then. “Expecto patronum!” She stared at the end of her wand but nothing came out. She thought of making it onto her Quidditch team. “Expecto Patronum!” Nothing.
She heard a thump and turned to see Harry fallen on the floor and Professor Lupin making the dementor turn into the moon and putting it back in its case.
“Harry, are you alright?” Professor Lupin knelt beside him, helping him sit up.
“Yeah.” Harry rubbed his head. Professor Lupin handed him a chocolate frog and Harry bit into it. “It’s getting worse… This time I could hear her clearer… And him – I heard Voldemort.”
Professor Lupin looked paler than normal.
Heather crossed her arms. “Maybe we should stop for today then.”
“No! We’ll keep going. I will. If dementors show up for the Ravenclaw match I need to keep them away.”
Professor Lupin nodded. “Heather… Have you gotten anything to happen? Are you ready to try?”
Heather looked at her wand and shook her head.
“I’ll go again. I’m fine.” Harry stood.
Professor Lupin walked over to the case again and gripped the lid. “Ready?”
Heather turned around again, huffing to herself. Why weren’t her memories making her happy enough? She was happy then… But none of them were making her feel happy now. There was too much going on in her head. How could she be happy about winning the house cup her first year when she’d lost it their second. And as much as thinking about Quidditch made her happy, she was still feeling very bitter towards Ron and Harry for not checking to see if she was alright when she fell.
She raised her arm and thought of being told they were wizards. “Expecto Patronum!” Nothing wooshed and nothing silvery came out. They were told together, walking into a whole new world together, they were all they had, and now Harry was mad at her over a broom? None of these memories were making her happy. Just angry.
THUMP. Harry was on the ground again.
Professor Lupin shook his shoulders. “Harry? Harry wake up. Harry.”
Harry mumbled something and fixed his glasses. “I heard my dad… I’ve never heard him before. He tried to – he took on Voldemort himself, trying to give my mum time to run for it... Giving her time to save us.”
Heather looked at Harry, and for the first time in several weeks, he looked at her without anger in his eyes. There were tears there, running down his cheek and he quickly wiped them away.
“You heard James?” Professor Lupin looked distant, eyes staring out at nothing.
“You knew him?” Heather asked.
Professor Lupin looked at her, nodding. “We were friends at Hogwarts… We should end for tonight. This spell might be too advanced.”
Harry stood, shaking his head. “No, no! I can do it. I’ll give it one last go. I’ll just think of a happier memory.”
Professor Lupin nodded but Heather didn’t want to stay there any longer. Every time Harry failed he talked about their parents. It exhausted her to push unwanted thoughts and feelings out of her head. She was tired and sad, and just wanted to go to bed.
“I’m going to go… Good luck Harry.” She walked out of the classroom and wiped a tear from her eye after the door had closed.
Deep down… she wanted to know what he sounded like too, but those were memories she knew she’d destroyed a long time ago. She stopped halfway down the dungeon stairs and sat. It was close to after hours and everyone was normally inside already, so she didn’t think anyone would bump into her on the stairs. She let a tear run down her cheek, and then another one, and another. She dropped her face into her hands and started crying, not knowing what she felt or why.
Why did she feel so… angry? Not just at Harry, but towards her parents as well. She couldn’t even bring herself to call them anything but her ‘mother’ and ‘father’, distancing them from her heart. But they gave up their lives for them, sacrificed themselves to keep them safe. Wasn’t the least she could do to show them love is call them ‘mum’ and ‘dad’?
She sobbed. Did she even love them? She loved Harry, with all her heart… But did she love her parents? They were gone. And didn’t it hurt to love people that are gone? That you can never get back? If Harry died… would she stop loving him too?
She heard a door open – Professor Snape’s office – and quickly wiped her tears. She stood and continued down the stairs, meeting him at the bottom.
He stopped. “Potter. Is it so incredibly hard to remember that you are not to be outside the common room after hours?”
Heather avoided his eyes, knowing hers were red and puffy. “Sorry, Professor.”
He must have sensed he couldn’t break her further because he all he said was, “Get inside,” before continuing up the stairs.
Heather ducked into the common room. There were still people around so she went straight for the girl dormitories and decided to take a long bath. Right before bed Cindy offered her more berries, seeing she was looking a little sad, and Heather accepted. She fed them to her toad and watched the berry juice drip down his little toad chin and stomach.
The month of January went by slowly and February rolled in even slower. Hermione was now too busy with classes to talk after any lessons, saying she had no time. Harry had been continuing his lesson with Professor Lupin by himself and apparently was finally producing more than just a bit of silvery gas. Professor Lupin kept asking her if she’d join them but she always declined. Maybe if something very magnificent happened to her she’d join with a new ‘very’ happy memory, but currently, life was as it always was.
One February morning, on her way to meeting Hermione outside the Gryffindor common room, she saw Ron, Harry, and Hermione making their way down the stairs together. Heather stopped and looked at them as they came towards her.
“Oh.” She crossed her arms and stared at Harry. “We’ve made up then have we?”
Harry rolled his eyes. “I got my firebolt back – ”
“Which was perfectly fine,” Ron interrupted.
“Well it might NOT have been,” Hermione snapped.
Heather stared at the obvious tension growing between Ron and Hermione.
“Scabbers is gone and Crookshanks might be to blame,” Harry filled her in.
The four of them made it to breakfast and sat together at the Gryffindor table. When she looked back at the Slytherin table she saw Pansy glaring at her. For several weeks they had been sitting together, mutually benefiting off each other’s popularity, but now Pansy was alone and unable to keep up any Quidditch talk by herself.
“Explain the blood then!” Ron was yelling with a mouth full of toast. “Blood on the sheets and ginger hairs all over! Explain!”
Hermione had a book up between her and Ron. “Well maybe you just aren’t looking hard enough.” Ron scoffed. “Have you checked under ALL the beds?”
“Oh, UNDER the beds. I’ve only been looking above them because of Scabbers ability to FLY!”
Harry looked at Heather and sighed. “Pass the jam?”
Their fighting got worse after Herbology. They were all studying in the library when Hermione suggested Ron was just prejudice against her cat ever since Crookshanks chased Scabbers out of the Magical Menagerie.
“Only a maniac would buy the cat that almost ate their friend’s rat!” Ron closed his book and left the library.
“Hermione – ”
Heather knew what Harry was about to do and shook her head at him. He ignored her.
“Ron did find blood where Scabbers normally sleeps and I don’t think those ginger hairs would have stayed there since Christmas. We’ve been walking around and sweeping the floor with our socks.”
Hermione shut her book. “Oh I knew you’d side with Ron! First you’re both mad at me about the firebolt and now you’re mad at me about something Crookshanks DIDN’T do – ”
“Where IS Crookshanks?” Heather regretted asking almost immediately.
Hermione’s face went red. “I’m very busy and I can’t work with everyone talking,” she said shrilly. She got up and left the library as well.
Harry and Heather stayed to work on their potions essay on Undetectable Poisons.
A day later and the Weasleys were trying to cheer Ron up, seeing he was thoroughly devastated about Scabbers. During breakfast all but Percy were sitting around him, patting his back and offering him candy.
“Think of his death this way, at least it was quick and painless. He’d been off-color for ages, losing hair and all that. One swallow and his misery was over.”
“Fred!” Ginny hissed.
“Oh come on. You always said he was very boring. All he did was sleep and barely eat and sleep some more. Now you can buy a new rat,” George shook Ron’s shoulders a bit.
Ron lifted his head from the table. “He bit Goyle for us! He put that disgusting sausage finger in his mouth for US, remember?”
Heather and Harry nodded.
“A true hero,” said Fred while biting his cheek to keep from laughing. “And now the scar on Goyle’s finger will stand as a lasting tribute to Scabbers’ memory.”
Surprising to no one, Fred and George couldn’t manage to cheer Ron up. Maybe Ron was doomed to remain sad for the rest of the year without Scabbers. He did say he’d never be happy again. Heather told him at least then the dementors would leave him alone and he did nod appreciative.
Mopey Ron was a new normal they’d have to get used to, but Heather was far happier now. She was back to being friends with Ron, she had Harry back, and Hermione was talking to them – except Ron – so everything was almost like normal.

Wen Yuan and the Prisoner of Koi Tower
*
the only HP!au I will consider for mdzs is the one where WWX acts as Sirius and LWJ as Remus.
also Cloud Recesses already acts as a magical school of sorts so I would not go as far as plant the entire cast in England, but a modern Chinese setting would be a very nice touch and will allow many writers to play around with both pieces of media imo.
my take would be:
*
- WWX has escaped a secret and hidden magical prison 13 years after protecting the remaining Wens from facing justice after the entire Sect had been accused of being a threat to the laws protecting the cultivation world.
- while some of the Wens (Wen RuoHan and his sons) had actively tried to oppose the allicance by messing with commoners and revealing themselves to the non-cultivation world, other Wens were completely innocent and yet they were still persecuted after the war (Sunshot Campaign) that had exterminated the rest of their Sect.
- WWX sacrificed himself by pretending to be completely unable to control his demonic cultivation and causing the explosion of resentful energy that destroyed the Burial Mounds (the Wen Remains’ hideout), turning the lush forest in a wasteland. the magical barrier dividing the premise and the non-cultivation world was compromised and WWX was accused of having sided with the Wen-dogs to jeopardize the anonymity of the cultivation world.
- by attracting all the attention on himself and destroying their hideout, WWX convinced everyone he accidentally killed the Wen Remains to allow them to escape. with the barrier growing weaker, the Wens slipped into the shadows of the non-cultivation world and pretended to be commoners for the time being.
*
- Wen Yuan (i assume he would not have a courtesy name if he were to live outside of the modern!cultivation-world, before enrolling in school) has lived 13 years in modern!Yiling with Wen Ning and he’s now 16 under a different name (idk what name, but they certainly don’t plan to be sought out by announcing the world they are called Wen). they live pretending to be commoners and can only rarely see Wen Qing, who was able to work at the “magical school” as a physician only bc the headmaster Lan QiRen is more interested in her talent than her last name.
- Wen Ning and Wen Qing decided not to reveal their little cousin about the happenings of 13 years ago. when they tried to step into the common world the first time after the explosion, A-Yuan had slipped from their grasp and they didn’t know where he had disappeared to (imagine the mishaps of the Floo Network and such or when someone disappararates). A-Yuan, “splinched” and feverish with no memories of his past, was found by LWJ who brought him back to the Wen siblings and helped their entire clan to disappear from the radar.
- upon discovering A-Yuan had, in fact, a golden core at 10/11 years old (although I would also like to see him enrolling in school at 8 or 9 tbh), LWJ offers to pay for his education but asks the Wen siblings not to reveal his identity as a benefactor. so A-Yuan only knows someone in the Lan Sect saw potential in him and... offered him a scholarship? I guess?
*
- he enrolls under the name Lan SiZhui and tries to find out more as he grows and learns. his suspicions fall on LXC at first, because he’s very kind and pleasant to talk to and he frequently visits the school even though he’s not a teacher. then he suspects LQR or one of the elders to be his benefactor. but when he enters the third year and he’s finally allowed to study with the Qin Language Master (either that or an Array Master or even Spellwork Master, you choose) LWJ... A-Yuan knows.
- so A-Yuan spends roughly two years trying to crack LWJ’s exterior... but it’s actually easy bc LWJ is very fond of him. yet, the elusive teacher doesn’t even try to talk about WWX with him. nobody does. Wen Qing looks after A-Yuan while he’s at school, but they have to pretend they don’t know each other: all the school staff knows she’s a Wen but none of the students have a suspect; if their families were to discover this fact, they would take the children away from the school in retaliation against LQR for having betrayed the alliance by protecting a Wen.
- A-Yuan spends a lot of time with her anyway, sharing meals and gossip in the medical wing late at night. he also tries to injure himself at times during night hunts so that he can meet with her and be scolded by her. it is a delicate balance and a dangerous game they’re playing, but only LWJ knows about it. not even LQR is aware that A-Yuan is a Wen: he trusted his nephew when LWJ told him he found a promising child to bring to the cultivation world and he trusted him.
- Lan JingYi was also “found” in a similar way and he adopted the Lan name and lives with LXC during the summer bc he doesn’t have a family. OuYang ZiZhen is one of the few representing his Sect while Jin Ling leads the way for his Sect and its many members. Jin Ling tries to be a rival to A-Yuan so bad (just bc A-Yuan seems perfect, not bc he’s a Wen. only Lan JingYi knows about that) but they end up being friends.
*
- Jiang FengMian leads Yunmeng as a Sect Leader while Madam Yu teaches how to wield spiritual weapons. JC was born without a golden core, but WWX sacrificed it for him with a forbidden spell and developed demonic cultivation to balance the absence of his core. LQR saw potential in him and offered him an opportunity to form another golden core... but his attempts failed miserably and WWX graduated following the demonic path before studying to become a teacher himself to explore other cultivation methods.
- Jin GuangShan’s alive and kicking [*cough*sons from staircases*cough*] at the top of Lanling and three of his bastards kids are teachers: JGY, MXY, and Qin Su.
- Nie MingJue rules over Qinghe and sent Nie ZongHui as a teacher and protector of the students from their Sects. Nie HuaiSang visits sometimes to discuss Sect matters with him
- LQR’s older brother is the head of Gusu and only LWJ is a teacher, taking his mother’s place (I envision his mother as an outcasts of sorts, similarly to Trelawney, but less............you know. we still love a cryptid woman in this house tho. basically she was kept away bc she knew too much and went mad with the knowledge she held and vowed to never speak again or something + also I like the idea of LWJ teaching in a secluded place. not necessarily a tower, but I remember Lupin’s office to be quite fetching nonetheless and the Jinghi can still keep all of its minimalist furniture and still be cooler than anything else ever existing in-universe).
*
- when WWX escapes from prison, the first thing he wants is to find the Wens. the teachers think he’s after Wen Qing and they make sure to destroy every corpse surrounding the school so that WWX cannot summon them. night-hunting is put on hold for the entire year (which would be a parallel with quidditch championship being shut down... also sports being put on hold bc of an emergency sounds oddly familiar...)
- JC still has his brother’s dizi, protected under spells in one of his mother’s cabinets at the school... but Jin Ling is a silly boy and wants to prove to his friends that he knows that his grandma Madam Yu is hiding something important in her office. so during a late exploration night after curfew, the juniors find the cabinet, take the dizi to inspect it and flee the corridors. Madam Yu finds them first, but LWJ defends them and feign ignorance when the woman demands to be the one punishing them. LWJ then asks Jin Ling to give him the dizi and the boy begrudgingly does as the teacher says.
*
- people start disappearing soon after. one by one, people from MoLing and Baling from the school staff vanish into thin air, then it’s the Jin and Jiang’s turn. By the time LXC disappears as well, LWJ gets worried but he trusts his brother.
- Jin GuangShan’s however, after his younger son’s disappearance, point his finger against the Nie Sect and its dangerous method of cultivation: why nobody of the Nie Sect had disappeared? the culprit must be one of theirs! and if MXY cannot be found, then the Jin Sect will demand reparations from Nie MingJue himself... with his life.
- when the dizi disappears from LWJ’s office, JGY suggests the Yiling Patriarch has finally made his way inside the school and that maybe he’s after the disappearance of so many cultivators and students. then, when the dizi is found among Wen Qing’s possessions, LQR expels her from the school to save himself (?) and his Sect from being accused of shielding someone hiding the Yiling Patriarch... but she is able to snatch the dizi and flee, promising A-Yuan to be back for him when nobody is watching.
*
- ...nobody aside from Jin Ling, who sees Wen Qing embracing “A-Yuan” one last time. the heir of LanLing demands an explanation from his best friend, asking him why that woman had called him with a different name and why was he talking with such familiarity to a Wen dog even though he knew what the Wens had done to his family. how JZX, his father, had died because of a Wen and how his mother had died because of WWX. on top of that, if Wen Qing was really helping WWX, then it was still a Wen’s fault if his uncle MXY was now missing!
- feeling betrayed, Jin Ling disappears on his own volition and Jin GuangShan accuses the Yiling Patriarch of having abducted even his grandson now. the rest of the juniors look for Jin Ling and they travel into the night until they find a lead: JC, apparently, has found a way to lure WWX out by calling the sword-spirit Suibian through his lend-me-down version of a golden core. feeling someone “pulling” him in, WWX was certainly bound to come back and meet with the heir of YunmengJiang , right? (is this the equivalent of the Patronus thingie? maybe not?)
- the juniors figure out that Jin Ling would follow his uncle JC and so they follow the man as well. they end up where everything started, in the Burial Mounds. but Jin Ling has arrived there even before his own uncle. the juniors see WWX holding an unconscious Jin Ling in his arms when JC arrives wielding Sandu. they duel and in the cave there are a lot of ancient corpses WWX can order around with his dizi. JC is close to have the upper hand... when LWJ enters the cave and knocks JC to one of the walls in WWX’s defense.
- [just like in the movie, I would like the narration to be hinting at LWJ having helped WWX all along. even if there were to be POV from LWJ’s part up until this moment, I would still not let it show he’s still in love with WWX. (eg: is he were to look at an old photo with WWX, maybe LWJ’s POV would show him tossing the picture aside and A-Yuan would accidentally see the scene and the POV would switch... so the kid would assume LWJ had beef with WWX instead)]
*
- A-Yuan, who up until then has never had any reason to think of WWX as anything but a menace to the cultivation world, feels winded. why does his mentor, his father figure, his benefactor... side with a criminal? and why does WWX have the dizi? did Qing-Jie really give it to him? but wasn’t she framed? the dizi must have been planted in her closet when they found it... right?
- LWJ tries to explain that WWX was not behind the disappearances. and that Wen Qing had not taken the dizi from LWJ’s office: Nie ZongHui had. After so many people disappeared, after Jin GuangShan’s accusations against the Nie Sect, Nie ZongHui panicked and wanted to protect his Sect. and since he knew LWJ was hiding something... since he knew how LWJ and WWX were close during their youth... he snooped around until he found the dizi and planted it on the only person every teacher was suspicious of: Wen Qing.
- Wen Qing, after being framed, seeks out WWX and helps him hide in the Burial Mounds, taking down the barriers the cultivation world has set around the area. she then sent a message to LWJ telling him that JC was being lured as well by WWX into the cave to talk... but that Jin Ling had attacked first.
- tired and still incredulous about being finally, finally free, WWX himself explains the truth about the Wen Remains and what he had done to save them. LWJ holds him tight as the other explains that he cannot use resentful energy as he used to and that -when he had tried to protect himself from Jin Ling’s attacks using the dizi- his first attempt had knocked down the kid. JC had found him at the worst possible moment, really.
- but then... who was behind the disappearances? then appears Su She. who had followed the juniors pretending to be invested in their well-being.
*
- the first cultivators to disappear were from MoLing after all, but not because they were abducted... but because they were the one abducting people to begin with. leaving out cultivators from the Nie Sect had been done only to satisfy Jin GuangShan’s request to find Nie MingJue at fault: the man’s only sin being that he would have never voted in favor of Jin GuangShan for the position of Chief Cultivator (something like the Minister of Magic, I suppose??) wishing to get more power for his Sect, Su She accepted to give an opening for Jin GuangShan’s plan... after being ordered as much by JGY.
- JGY... who had been very quick to “suggest” WWX was behind the disappearances after finding out the dizi Madam Yu and LWJ were hiding had disappeared.
- LWJ duels with Su She, but eventually has to take a step back after the other uses a transportation talisman and disappears himself. if they let him go he will tell everyone that WWX is back, that LWJ is with him and they they both took JC and the juniors as hostages. a siege will be called upon them and they need to flee ASAP.
*
- WWX takes them to Wen Ning’s and A-Yuan is really confused. if it’s true that WWX helped the Wen Remains, then it’s probably right to assume that WWX and Wen Ning were friends... but why did that never occur to him? why neither Wen Qing nor her brother told him anything??
- Wen Ning cries of happiness upon seeing WWX and they embrace for a long time. Wen Qing is there and has put barriers around their apartment in Yiling to protect them from being found. there are spirits (invisible to the commoners) lurking around and flying in the sky, prodding at every window and door. A-Yuan looks out for danger close to the widows, trying to find a solution... and also as a way to stay away from his family for a bit as he tries to figure the truth out all on his own.
- however, he cannot help himself from listening in on what is being told, not with Lan JingYi asking a million questions per minute to an exhausted Yiling Patriarch. Jin Ling and JC are still unconscious on the sofa and A-Yuan holds his friend’s hand by the window for comfort -more for himself than for the other boy- when he learns that Wen Ning defended WWX by accidentally killing Jin Ling’s father JZX 13 years back. and then how, in one last attempt to save her own step-brother, even Jiang YanLi had died in the explosion that should have destroyed Burial Mounds completely.
- WWX had seen her only at the very last minute, dragging her body over to the mostly ruined cave before he could lose his senses to prevent her to turn into a vengeful corpse. to preserve her body until other Sects could arrive. he had truly no idea his sister wanted to talk to him and he accepted to go to prison for it.
- (JC had been the one to find his sister’s corpse and WWX’s unconscious body in the cave 13 years ago. he cried and took both of them back. after his sister and brother-in-law’s funeral, soon after WWX’s incarceration, JC revealed his mother he had found the dizi. she decided to hide it in the school, where nobody could have found it, all to prevent the rise of another demonic cultivator. WWX’s sword was believed to have been destroyed in the explosion... only JC can feel its existence through his lend-me-down golden core. but he doesn’t reveal this to anyone.)
- WWX reveals he should have been brought to the “magical prison” (maybe on Phoenix Mountain?) but he was instead trapped within the dungeons of Koi Tower, the ancient residence belonging to Jin Ling’s family. Jin Ling had spent most of his life there... unaware that his uncle WWX was there.
- WWX also tells them that someone helped him run away, a man younger than him that used to keep him company in the shadows, listening to his stories. someone who brought Suibian back to him... even if he would not be able to wield it without a golden core (he tried in school under LQR’s tutelage a la “Legilimens lessons” you feel me?).
- WWX has met with this person for a long time, even if he cannot be sure how many years exactly. maybe five or less. still, he would like to find this person and repay him in kindness, even if he doesn’t know what his name is. when asked to describe him, WWX tells them his eyes had been shut close all along with talismans and that he would be able to recognize the man only by voice alone.
- Jin Ling is awake by the time the story ends and squeezes A-Yuan’s hand back. they both discovered horrible things about their families and they can barely share a glance between them before they start silently crying. LWJ notices and steps in to try to comfort them... but Jin Ling asks him why he helped WWX instead. demanding to know if he helped him 13 years ago in destroying his family as well.
*
- LWJ only looks back at WWX and smiles as he shakes his head. then the two of them reveal they had lived together for a while in secret before the fallout. they even got married without anyone but Wen Ning and Wen Qing knowing, just right after the war (Sunshot Campaign)... before WWX’s control over the resentful energy grew unstable and he had to flee to prevent LWJ to be caught in the aftermath of his actions.
- WWX pretended he didn’t love LWJ anymore and asked to be left alone. heartbroken but still mindful of the other’s boundaries, LWJ thought he didn’t have any right to control WWX and let him go. in the following year or two, WWX found a home with the Wen Remains and defended them until the end.
- LWJ had tried to defend them from the hatred festering the cultivation world from within... but treaded maybe too carefully in the attempt not to disrespect his father and the elders of his family.
- when the Burial Mounds exploded, LWJ disappeared to help the Wens find new homes instead of lending his hand in containing the magical power from spilling over into the non-cultivation world. this was seen as an insult from his family’s standpoint and he was forced into seclusion for years. so while WWX was trapped in a jail covered in suppression talismans, LWJ had been forced into a prison of his own, in a freezing cave where he had to focus all of his attention on developing his cultivation in order to survive such temperatures.
- this led both of them to develop a trauma they don’t know if they will ever be able to overcome, unless they learn to live with its consequences one step at a time. during seclusion, LWJ figured that WWX had lied to him, but that he had been too in love and to young to see the truth at the time. so after he left seclusion he looked once more for A-Yuan, who WWX had loved like a son, and was willing to adopt him... but the child already had a family and it would have been cruel to separate him from them.
- that was why he offered to pay for his studies and never wanted to be found out... but A-Yuan was too smart not to find out and so LWJ allowed himself to hope for a future when he could tell the boy the truth. he wouldn’t dare to hope for WWX to ever leave prison, but he could still dream to see him again.
- at the end of the touching story, JC punches LWJ square on the jaw. he was still weak and couldn’t handle the dizziness, but he had listened to everything and now is furious with LWJ. he demands to know why he didn’t tell anyone WWX and him were married; why he thought possible that such a lovelorn idiot like JC’s brother could ever not be in love with LWJ after obsessing over him for the entirety of their academic career. JC and the entire Yunmeng would have helped them! JC would have even convinced Madam Yu to wield Zidian to protect them and the Wens if necessary! why did they have to do everything by themselves?!
- WWX finally sits close to his brother and lets him punch his chest and arms as much as he wants, until the younger man collapses back on the sofa, exhausted. A-Yuan observes all of this and yet he cannot understand: he doesn’t remember WWX at all, nor to have ever lived in Burial Mounds. he will not trust WWX until he finds out the truth by himself.
- Wen Qing, ever so practical, reminds them they have the entire cultivation world breathing on their necks and that no amount of family drama will save them from execution if they keep hiding doing nothing. that’s when LWJ receives a spiritual butterfly (this is the Patronus thingie! I guess??) from his brother LXC: the butterflies goes under the radar and slips inside the barriers set by Wen Qing easily; it says that “Nie MingJue is innocent and that JGY is helping them”.
- none of them could see how that’s possible, since it was JGY the one ordering Su She to kidnap all of those people just to give Jin GuangShan an opportunity to mess with the Nie Sect. yet, LWJ trusts his brother and decides to send another spiritual butterfly in response, asking where they should meet with LXC.
*
- while they wait, they eat and try to get along. the Wen siblings distract the kids while WWX and LWJ talk by themselves for a while. they need some alone time and they move to the guest bedroom to figure things out (i doubt they would go for the papapa after all that distance, longing, exhaustion and touch-starvation... especially because last time they saw each other WWX told LWJ he didn’t love him anymore. but... you know.... they did miss each other a lot, and WWX desperately needs a shower, so.......................... yeah.)
- Wen Qing coax the juniors close with food and tells them all sorts of stories about the infamous Yiling Patriarch and how he didn’t even know how to properly cook for the Wen Remains. she tells them how interested he was in the non-cultivation world (Arthur vibes anyone??) and how he was the one teaching the Wens how to use all sorts of common objects, like cars and toasters, washing machines and ovens. Wen Ning sadly suggests that maybe WWX had already imagined how they would need such knowledge for when they were going to leave the cultivation world for good. everyone becomes somber afterwards.
- Jin Ling is still wary of Wen Ning, but he accepts his food and doesn’t try anything funny. Lan JingYi asks Wen Qing to teach him how to make a television work and he eventually blasts the volume up until he wakes JC and receives a knock on the head for the trouble. OuYang ZiZhen starts flipping through the romance novels Wen Ning collects and gets hooked on at least three of them at the same time bc none of them are related to the cultivation world. A-Yuan spends time with Wen Ning and they promise to talk about everything that happened as soon as this nightmare will be over.
*
- the following morning: the kids are sprawled on the floor, JC somewhat surrounded by them and cushioning their heads with his limbs; Lan JingYi slips and calls him “dad” for some reason; Jin Ling boinks his head with a fist and tells him he already has A-Yuan as a cousin and he doesn’t need another one; A-Yuan sobs a little when a sleepy JC tells the kids he has enough love for everyone; OuYang ZiZhen declares he wants to be a cousin too; Wen Qing slips the equivalent of Veritaserum down JC’s open mouth as he snores and they ask him all sorts of questions just to mess with him.
- all is well and the wangxian lovebirds come out of their room: all combed out and clean, WWX looks almost a respectable member of society, but dressed in non-cultivation clothes he still looks too skin for comfort. Suibian held close, LWJ’s hand in his, WWX properly introduces himself and asks for forgiveness.
- still under the effects of the potion, JC reveals that he’s just glad he’s still alive and as annoying as ever. WWX cries of happiness and LWJ has never looked more serene and moved since A-Yuan got to know him properly.
- right then, a spiritual butterfly (a shouting one! like the Howlers this time around!) passes through the window of the apartment and only says: “they’re coming. hold onto Suibian, all of you”. the group has barely enough time to huddle around the sword when the windows of the flat explode and spirits swarms their way inside!
- the sword activates (like a Portkey!) and they get sucked in through a passage until they reach a dungeon in Qinghe Nie. WWX realizes the engravings in the metal had been slightly changed to accommodate a transportation spell that would be invisible to the eye. LWJ takes his sword and point it at their host... but he only finds his fellow teacher MXY. for a moment he had thought the butterfly had come from JGY, because that had been the man’s voice screaming at them to take Suibian... but he couldn’t be sure. spiritual butterflies only speak to the one they are directed to, so nobody heard when the message had been opened aside from him.
- but... what did MXY have to do with all of this? the younger teacher doesn’t speak, simply gesturing them to follow along. then they reach the throne chamber through a secret corridor and there they find... NHS. who finally explains to them what is happening.
* (flashback)
- NMJ and JGY had planned to stop Jin GuangShan’s plan to take over the non-cultivation world. initially they thought they could postpone the inevitable by letting NMJ voting against the Jin Sect Leader in the election for Chief Cultivator... but then the pig ordered JGY to find dirt on NMJ and to orchestrate something to trigger a new war between Sects.
- JGY asks Su She (who he knows he’s a spy under Jin GuangShan’s wing) to start taking people away from the school and help him “frame” the Nie cultivators. JGY has full permission from NMJ to do so and LXC is informed as well. LXC pretends to be “kidnapped” and protects the teachers, students, and members of the staff that had been taken away in the meantime.
- JGY needs to take one specific person out of the school (out of sight from his father’s spies): his brother MXY, who had learned how to use transportation talismans long ago. MXY gives JGY some low-level talismans for Su She and his cronies from MoLing, just to make his older brother appear more trustworthy to the spie. but he’s otherwise preoccupied with perfecting a spell to lead an activated Suibian (aka, the Portkey) all the way in Qinghe.
- JGY needs MXY to finish the “receiving end” of the spell and the array that would have welcomed the Yiling Patriarch back. and to achieve that JGY has to sneak MXY out without people from the Jin Sect suspecting him.
- Qin Su conveniently “suggests” to Su She to take MXY away for good measure: she got news from her brothers of their plan to dethrone their father and she’s on board. so her suggestion was taken seriously by Su She and he himself sneaks MXY out of the school despite the (uuuuuuuuh) lockdown (??? too soon? too soon)
- Jin GuangShan now has what he wanted: an opportunity to seek NMJ out... but Nie ZongHui panics and steals WWX’s dizi, planting it in Wen Qing’s belongings. JGY knows his father will still try to ignore the WWX situation in order to pick on NMJ no matter what... but if the cultivation world hears about how the Jin Sect didn’t care if the Yiling Patriarch was behind the disappearances... JGY knows a siege will come for his father all right, but it will come for him and his siblings too.
- so JGY suggests WWX is the one behind the kidnappings, reminding his father -this way- how the entire Sect will be under scrutiny if he refuses to acknowledge the disappearance of the dizi. JGY doesn’t want for the name of Jin to be followed by hatred and disgust just like it happened with the Wens.
- his father luckily catches up on the tension in the room and for the time being accepts to look for WWX like the others instead of trying to come for NMJ’s head (ahahah)
- while MXY works on the array to activate Suibian from afar, LXC is confident LWJ will find WWX all on his own and convince him to help them. but in case LWJ will fail in convincing him... well, activating Suibian they will still be able to summon WWX whether he likes it or not. but LXC doesn’t have time to send the butterfly that LWJ has already left the school (after receiving Wen Qing’s message). so the little butterfly looks for LWJ for the entire night before he finds him... and a bunch of children (including JC).
- which is unexpected, but LXC trusts his brother. he informs JGY and the two of them entrust to MXY the task to send another butterfly to LWJ, activate Suibian, and welcome the group in Qinghe. all while LXC, JGY and NMJ meet in Gusu to plan a siege against Jin GuangShan.
* (end of flashback)
- NHS finally reveals how he had been the one suggesting MXY to give Suibian back to WWX after transforming it into a (raw and unpolished) transportation talisman before freeing him from Koi Tower (roughly at the beginning of the school year). MXY would have needed more time to finish the work on Suibian, but rumors had it WWX was soon to be executed bc now useless to Jin GuangShan after 13 years.
- tense under the scrutiny, MXY remains silent as WWX slowly falls at his feet and thanks him for keeping him company all of those years. MXY still refuses to speak when WWX marvels at the wonderful job he had done with Suibian as he kneels in front of him and tries to take one of the younger man’s gloved hands in his.
- “Finally, Yiling Patriarch,” utters MXY as he graciously accepts WWX’s offer and takes his hand. but WWX tenses, trying to take his hand back, still kneeling in front of MXY, who is smiling down at him.
- “You’re not him,” is all WWX is able to say before Xue Yang reveals his real identity (the changing-faces thingie is apparently called “face-changing technique” and works here in place of the Polyjuice potion). XY activates Suibian (still in WWX’s hand) once more and disappears with WWX.
*
- now that he has the whole story (and the Yiling Patriarch all for himself to play with!), XY can go back to Jin GuangShan and be given his two fierce corpses back (SL & XXC), who had been held captive for experiments in Koi Tower.
- XY took MXY’s place upon discovering JGY’s younger brother had secretly let the Yiling Patriarch run away with an unfinished transportation talisman. Jin GuangShan’s ordering him to keep the traitor MXY under control and to find WWX. retracing the spell-work backwards only from MXY’s notes would have taken ages so XY hid MXY behind a mirror in a secret chamber, torturing him to force him to tell him how to find WWX. but MXY refused over and over again.
- XY transformed his features into MXY’s ones, but his missing pinky would have jeopardized his mission, so he wore stuffed gloves on both hands, shrugging it off as a stylistic choice. his acting so spot on, not even Qin Su or JGY noticed anything missing, not even NHS, MXY’s best friend, or Jin Ling.
- but JGY never told him the whole story. and now that he knew the truth about Jin GuangShan’s intention to conquer the non-cultivation world... now XY has leverage to get what he wants and flee with his (partners?? lovers?? guinea pigs??) fierce corpses.
- working on a double array to activate Suibian (whatever that means) took almost an entire school year, but in the end he got to drag WWX all the way back to Koi Tower... where the siege will soon take place.
*
- WWX gets nails in his skull (which I assume could work in place of an Imperius Curse, even if he’s not a fierce corpse) in order to defend Koi Tower from the siege by organizing the corpses against 3Zun’s army of cultivators.
- LWJ looks for his brother as the others and NHS look for more help. they still don’t know WWX is in Koi Tower or for who XY I start working, but NHS knows Jin GuangShan will not wait for the siege to take him down so he suggest they move to LanLing.
- the juniors are exhausted and yet they fly to Koi Tower in the attempt to warn LXC of what had just occurred, when they hear the dizi Chenqing summoning the dead. the battle begins, but doesn’t culminate until 3Zun show up and destroy most of WWX’s corpses.
- WWX himself is fighting against the nails in his skull and his demonic cultivation is deeply unstable, so much his corpses crumble down easily enough. still, there are so many: Koi Tower must have harvested them against the laws of the cultivation-world (XY being one of the mad scientists/magicians behind the project under Jin a GuangShan’s guidance... all in order to terrorize the commoners and eventually rule over the non-cultivation world)
- eventually, LWJ is able to face WWX and take him down, forcing him to come to his senses after taking the nails out. Jin GuangShan is captured and will face trial. Madam Jin takes over the Sect and makes JGY her General.
*
- during the battle, A-Yuan gets hit in the head and the other juniors try to use a spare transportation talisman (disapparate) to get him back to Wen Qing... but they don’t know where she is fighting and so they go back to Cloud Recesses.
- A-Yuan gets (Splinched) injuried even more and the pain reminds him of his past, of WWX and the rest of his family in the lush mountain of Burial Mounds.
- the school is empty, but Jin Ling finds a way back to his uncle JGY’s office where he knows there are medicinal herbs and talismans they can use. inside, they only find XY who’s looking for something by the desk in a hurry. XY tries to kill them (with an hex??) with a curse... but Madam Yu saves them by capturing him first with Zidian.
- Jin Ling embraces his grandma and explains what happened and where JC and WWX are, but he also insists on the need to save A-Yuan. once that is settled, Jin Ling forces XY to tell him where his younger uncle is -fearing he may be dead- by pointing his father’s sword at him.
- after getting what he wants, Jin Ling runs to MXY’s office and finds the bronze mirror... but he cannot step inside of it. he wishes and wishes and wishes, but nothing happens! he slides on the floor and cries his heart out.
*
- WWX and LWJ arrive with JC and Wen Qing at the school. Madam Yu is cold towards WWX and accuses him of destroying their family and of disrespecting the debt he owed them. WWX listens carefully and then embraces her anyway. it doesn’t last long, but he doesn’t care.
- LWJ steps inside JGY’s office and asks XY to tell him where MXY is. the other offers to tell him only if LWJ helps him find something in JGY’s room: a key to the (magical, I guess) cell where SL and XXC have been trapped.
- LWJ tells him they already freed them and that they are waiting for him downstairs. restless and eager to meet them, XY tells him nobody aside from someone with MXY’s face can open the mirror door in MXY’s office.
- tired of all that nonsense, LWJ drags XY over to the office, Zidian still cracking and squeezing him in place like a snake, and forces him to perform his imitation magic once more.
- WWX runs behind them and they find Jin Ling sobbing on the floor. WWX smashes XY’s now transformed face into the mirror and they barge inside. MXY is there, some fingers missing, a lost ear, too skinny for comfort, traumatized beyond recognition. but he immediately recognizes WWX and weakly allows the older man to embrace him and hold him tight.
- A-Yuan sees all of this, after Wen Qing got to work her magic on him and starts to cry. he too once had been too skinny and weak, he too had been saved by WWX and then once more by LWJ.
- he remembers everything now. LWJ hugs him tight as they made their way to WWX and MXY. A-Yuan holds WWX tight as MXY marvels at him.
- “Is this... is this A-Yuan? Wen Yuan?” MXY asks, smiling even in his weakened state, “Your dad told me so much about you... so it was you all along, Lan SiZhui?”
- and even if MXY had never been anything but one of his many weird teachers, now that A-Yuan finally sees him after one entire year, knowing he kept WWX company in Koi Tower for so many years... A-Yuan cannot do anything but feel a great deal of affection for him too. so he hugs MXY as well and he laughs as WWX and LWJ hold him tight.

[what a ride. what a fucking ride. I want 150k words for this but I cannot do it. any volunteers? anyway you can interpret the WWX/MXY thingie as strictly platonic, but you are talking to a wangxianyu shipper so........yeah. no but really, I just wanted these poor characters to be happy. also, even if this is a “HP: POA” inspired au, I’ve always loved the mindfuck that was discovering the truth about Mad-Eye Moody in “HP: GOF” so..... sue me.]
[XY will face a trial don’t you worry]
[ignore all the plot holes, Su She would be proud of me for them]

Note
I want to know everything for both Rue and Julien, and I know it will take you awhile so I apologize in advance, but all the HP questions for my bbs!
Rue 1.What is their blood status (pureblood, muggleborn, etc)? What are their thoughts on the concept of blood status? Half-blood who doesn’t believe in the concept of blood status. Rue thinks blood doesn’t have anything to do with magic. If she had to say where she thinks magic comes from, she thinks its more of a power that is connected to the soul or to one’s will. 2. What is their wand wood and core? Vine wood, phoenix feather core, ten inches, slightly yielding. 3. Do they bring a pet to Hogwarts with them? No. Harry and Rue picked out Hedwig together (since one owl was all that Hagrid could afford as a gift). While Rue is fond of the owl, Hedwig is certainly Harry’s familiar. But Rue discovers her own familiar after a young Niffler sneaks into her bag after a fourth year Care of Magical Creatures lesson and refuses to leave Rue. She names him Professor Puck and he’s a little menace and she loves him. 4. What Hogwarts house were they sorted into? Why did the hat put them in that house over the others? Was it a quick sorting or a hatstall? Are they happy with their sorting? What Hogwarts house would they least fit into? Ravenclaw because of Rue’s deep curiosity and love for magic, her respect for intellect, and her desire to create/invent. She was nearly a hatstall because the Hat wanted to place her in Slytherin for her ambition, self-preservation, and resourcefulness; however she fought with it and convinced him Ravenclaw would suit her better. Rue was pleased to have won the debate and was sorted into Ravenclaw. Initially she wanted to be sorted in Gryffindor just so she could stay with Harry, but that’s the house that suits her least. 5. What subject is their favorite at Hogwarts? Which is their least favorite? Is their favorite the same as their best subject? Transfiguration is Rue’s favorite subject (partially because she deeply respects McGonagall and also because she is really gifted at it). Her least favorite was Astronomy first year because she wasn’t fond of heights. Even though she never takes Divination, she does not like it at all. She doesn’t believe in fate and despises the concept of prophecy. She adores magic and views it as a force of will and chooses to believe more in the individual and in choice over ‘fate.’ Rue’s best subjects are Transfiguration and Potions because she had to study them closely to become an Animagus. Charms is up there as well since Professor Flitwick adores Rue. 6. What electives do they chose in third year? Care of Magical Creatures (because Julien asks her to take it with him and she can’t say no to him) and Study of Ancient Runes because she thinks it’s a fascinating class (and Tom recommends it) 7. Do they earn more house points or do they lose more? Earn because Rue does very well in her classes (McGonagall and Flitwick in particular reward her with a lot of points in class). Rue doesn’t loose points because she is breaks the rules, she only does it when she knows she won’t be caught.  8. How do they do on their OWLs? On their NEWTs? Rue does extremely well on both OWLs and NEWTS, making mostly O’s and an E, rivaling Hermione for the top spot.  9. Thoughts on Quidditch? Do they play? And if so what position do they play? Honestly Rue does not understand anything about Quidditch. She does not know what makes it so popular and appealing, and would rather be petrified then ever get on a broom again after first year. So she doesn’t play, but she does try her best to support Harry, Julien, and Ginny in Quidditch. She’ll come to the games and cheer when ever Tracey tells her something good has happened. 10. What Wizarding treat (bertie botts, chocolate frogs, etc.) is their favorite? Sugar Quills. She has a bit of a sweet tooth because growing up Dudley would always steal any candy away from Rue. She eats Sugar Quills during Charms a lot, but Flitwick never gets onto her. 11. What is their Patronus? What happy memory do the use to conjure it? Rue doesn’t have a patronus. None of her memories are strong enough to conjure one. Even ‘happy’ moments like seeing her parents in the Mirror of Erised holds a reminder of what she has lost. 12-15 have been answered here! 16. If they trained as an Animagus what form would they take? Rue becomes an Animagus between third and fourth year. Her form is a red-tailed hawk! 17. What do they do/want to do after Hogwarts? Rue will become Hogwarts’ transfiguration teacher and will also do a lot of spell creation and potion research as well. 18. Which Unforgivable Curse would they be most likely to use? What would be the reason for it? If Rue had to use one, it would be the Cruciatus Curse, because she has a quick temper and a ruthless side, so she would be more likely to want to cause pain (only if she believes they deserve it). But in all honesty, Rue can be quite creative when it comes to spells and knows ways to cause pain or death outside of the Unforgivables. 19. Which Unforgivable Curse would they hate to have used on them the most? The Imperius Curse, no question. The idea of someone controlling her, imposing their will on her disturbs Rue deeply. Pain she can handle; death she doesn’t fear. But being controlled? Someone turning herself against her? She couldn’t bare it. 20. Which Deathly Hallow (wand, stone, or cloak) would they want? Why? Eh this is a spoiler, but actually, Rue ends up earning the loyalty of the Elder Wand. She didn’t know it and didn’t actively want it, but it is the Deathly Hallow that suits her best (I have a whole symbolism idea of the Deathly Hallows correlating with Rue, Harry, and Tom).
Julien 1.What is their blood status (pureblood, muggleborn, etc)? What are their thoughts on the concept of blood status? He is a pureblood and his family is part of the Sacred 28. While he grew up immersed in the culture of purebloods, he (and his family) doesn’t buy into blood status.  2. What is their wand wood and core? Redwood, dragon heartstring core, 12 and half inches, surprisingly swishy. 3. Do they bring a pet to Hogwarts with them? Yes. Julien has a pet lizard named Scamandar. 4. What Hogwarts house were they sorted into? Why did the hat put them in that house over the others? Was it a quick sorting or a hatstall? Are they happy with their sorting? What Hogwarts house would they least fit into? The Hat sorted Julien into Hufflepuff as soon as it was placed on his head. He is pleased with the sorting because his family has always had a strong affiliation with Hufflepuff. It was his father’s house and he’s always admired his dad. I would have to say Ravenclaw is the house that would least suit him. Julien isn’t really studious, analytical, or introspective. He is bold and daring (especially in Quidditch)  like a Gryffindor but is also is and determined to reach his goals like a Slytherin. 5. What subject is their favorite at Hogwarts? Which is their least favorite? Is their favorite the same as their best subject?  Flying Lessons first year because Julien has always been a natural talent at flying. Beyond that, Care of Magical Creatures because his favorite aunt is a magizoologist and it’s his best class since Julien actually studies for it and loves it. His least favorite is History of Magic because Binns puts him to sleep and also Potions because he just doesn’t vibe and Snape is a horrible teacher. 6. What electives do they chose in third year? Care of Magical Creatures (naturally) and Muggle Studies (because he is genuinely interested in learning more about the muggle world. While he’s shared a lot of pureblood customs with Rue, he has enjoyed learning more about what it was like to grow up among Muggles). 7. Do they earn more house points or do they lose more? Julien earns points for Hufflepuff in Quidditch, but then loses points because he loves all Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes products and has been caught with them many times. Especially in fifth year. 8. How do they do on their OWLs? On their NEWTs? Julien does alright. He doesn’t study hard and seems to pass with luck more than anything else. E’s and A’s, but with a Dreadful in History of Magic. Only gets an A in Potions and Herbology because of Rue and Tracey. 9. Thoughts on Quidditch? Do they play? And if so what position do they play? Quidditch is Julien’s greatest love. He nearly rivals Oliver Wood in his level of obsession. He’s always been a talented flyer, but he also works very hard, practicing on the field nearly every day. He is a Keeper, and becoming the Hufflepuff Captain sixth year is his greatest accomplishment. He’s known since he was young that he would be a professional Quidditch player and he has never doubted it or strayed from that goal. 10. What Wizarding treat (bertie botts, chocolate frogs, etc.) is their favorite? Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, because he thinks it’s entertaining to make bets on what flavour someone will get. He’s unusually lucky and gets sweet flavors more often then not, but he thinks it’s more fun to eat the weirder ones. 11. What is their Patronus? What happy memory do the use to conjure it? A stallion, and he uses memories from his best Quidditch game and the general memory of the freedom and pure joy of flying on a broom.  12. What is their Boggart? What happens to it when they cast Riddikulus? Julien is afraid of Dragon Pox after watching his grandfather die from it. His boggart is himself with Dragon Pox and when he casts Riddikulus, the Boggart becomes a little dragon because he thinks actual dragons are awesome. 13. What does Amortentia smell like to them? Treacle tart, the woody smell of a broomstick handle, and cinnamon. 14. What spell is their favorite? Which do they use the most? His favorite spell is the knitting spell Mrs. Weasley teaches him. He uses Episkey the most because he hurts his fingers a lot during intense Quidditch practices. 15. If they needed it, what form would the Room of Requirement take for them? A cozy room with a bed so he can take a nap.  16. If they trained as an Animagus what form would they take? Julien would be a flying squirrel. 17. What do they do/want to do after Hogwarts? Julien succeeds in becoming a professional Quidditch player, becoming the youngest Keeper of the England National Teem. When he retires after a fantastic career, he becomes a popular Quidditch commentator. 18. Which Unforgivable Curse would they be most likely to use? What would be the reason for it? Julien is my precious boy, who would rather dodge, use shield charms, or stupefy. But if he had to he would use the Killing Curse because while it causes death, it is a painless death. He couldn’t bring himself to torture someone or Imperio them. 19. Which Unforgivable Curse would they hate to have used on them the most? The Cruciatus Curse. It’s not really the pain he fears, because he’s used to breaking bones in Quidditch. Really he’s scared of being driven insane by the torture. His father was once best friends with Frank Longbottom, so Julien grew up knowing what happened to them. He once went with his dad to visit Frank and Alice at St. Mungos and Julien has never forgotten it.  20. Which Deathly Hallow (wand, stone, or cloak) would they want? Why? After fourth year, Julien would ant the resurrection stone in order to summon Cedric’s spirit in order to say goodbye. Cedric was like a big brother figure to Julien and his death deeply hurts him.

We Were Never A Family
oops I’m still on that HP bs and DC is mad :O
Aaaanyways, have some angst with a happy ending because Draco said Pottah and I agreed.
                    Summary:
You have many marks, many signs of loss and pain – because pain, as you know, is taught, and the Dursleys were excellent teachers.
You know pain.
You know it in many ways, in many forms.
Sometimes you picture it like a dark sort-of Patronus – lingering, following, cloaked in shadows and despair in place of light and joy – stalking you. You don’t love pain, but pain loves you, and the feelings of others have always meant more to you than your own.
You know pain, but pain is not simply known, it’s taught. And taught it was, to a knobbly-kneed boy in oversized jumpers with only a flash of green to remember his parents by. The Boy Who Lived Under the Stairs, as you’d always thought to yourself, learned pain from his blood.
Blood magic, Dumbledore had said, love, he’d said, was more powerful than even the darkest of spells.
But sometimes…sometimes you think the darkest of spells would at least be temporary pain – either you succumb to it and die, or you live to feel more pain – and eleven years seems a long time to a child who’d only known one year of love before being abandoned to hatred.
Safe, Dumbledore insists, a twinkle in his eyes, By your mother’s sacrifice.
And it had always been enough to placate because Lily Potter is more important to you than most alive. She loved you -- truly, desperately – enough so that Voldemort couldn’t kill her only child.
Mommy loves you…Daddy loves you… You are loved, Harry, so loved…
And you had been, in that moment, before Voldemort sent a green jet at her when she refused to move, before you’d starred at your mother’s unmoving corpse in confusion, fat tears rolling down your pale cheeks. You’d only known love in Godric’s Hollow, until the scar became a mark of that loss.
You have many marks, many signs of loss and pain – because pain, as you know, is taught, and the Dursleys were excellent teachers.
It was at your cousin’s hand you learned loneliness, shyness – he in his confident, long strides, you, tripping and stuttering behind him in oversized jeans and shirt. Even as he looks like a beach ball in a wig, he commands respect, authority – even if it is just because he could smother someone simply by sitting on them – and you command disdain. He also teaches you envy, but by the time you learn what that word means it’s a familiar ache.
It was at your Uncle’s hand you learned fear, hesitancy – because Vernon Dursley is a man who believes in punishment, a man who indulges in life’s delicacies and the devil’s drinks (as Aunt Petunia calls them) and you are a fitting target. You, who he holds no love for, or even pity. Your Uncle can’t even summon indifference, because you are a freak and we don’t appreciate freaks around here, boy, and you’ve learned well enough that that means extra work, or the back of his hand if he’s particularly pissed. You agree with Aunt Petunia in those moments, trapped between your cupboard of darkness and spiders or the red-and-purple face of your Uncle’s hatred, it is the devil’s drink.
It was at your Aunt’s hand you learned obedience, learned silence – because even the suffocating blackness of your cupboard is less painful than your Uncle’s anger, or your cousin’s spite. Aunt Petunia truly doesn’t care about you, which you are grateful for, in some ways. She hates your parents, your mother especially and your father as a consequence, and she dislikes you. She has the look of someone disgusted when she launders over you, teaching you to cook at the tender age of five. When you burn it and Vernon holds your hand to the stovetop, you move to the cupboard so quickly you don’t notice it. Later, you learn it was magic, but for now, you find it sad that a cupboard under the stairs infested with spiders is more comfortable than the presence of your family.
They don’t give you love or care, they don’t give you gifts or hugs, but Petunia turns her eye when you steal the broken scraps of worn-down plastic or metal that once was a toy Dudley had loved. She turns her eye when you repair them – thinking, perhaps foolishly, that if something so shattered and broken and damaged could be fixed, then perhaps you with a hole where your heart should be and grief where acceptance should be – and allows you to have them, so long as they remain in your cupboard. You get good at fixing things – action figures ripped and bent so far out of shape they look like a bloody gymnast, metal trucks warped with dents the size of Dudley’s ham-sized fists, tiny cars with shattered plastic windows and missing doors – it calms you, in a way, because you’ve always feared the dark, for reasons you didn’t understand until the Dementors made you see.
You hate the darkness because it makes you relive the dead body just outside your cradle that screamed and pleaded with a madman to spare her precious son.
And you learn. Pain is taught, and pain also teaches.
You learn that the bacon takes exactly five minutes on each side (no more, no less) and that Uncle Vernon was always in a better mood if he came home to a spotless house and you out of site. You do everything your Aunt shrilly tells you to, in between her mutterings of the latest gossip she’d no doubt found through her incessant and shameless gawking.
Sometimes they starve you, mocking the grumblings of your sunken-in stomach as they call you a freak.
Sometimes Dudley goes too far, and he leaves marks, scars like the broken bottle he’d thrown at you (at his stupid friend’s insistence) that leaves a gushing gash where your oversized shirt doesn’t cover. Aunt Petunia patches you up, tight-lipped and quiet, but it scars anyway – a great, jagged line from your collarbone down your right shoulder.
There are scars along your back from other incidents, other moments of rare quiet where you’re touched without the person’s intent being malicious, but they aren’t enough to stave off this gaping hole you feel inside.
Sometimes you think your Uncle will snap on you, will go farther than even Dudley, and possibly kill you. He has this mad glint in his eye sometimes, like a rat about to greedily devour a block of cheese. It makes you more skittish, makes you wonder what would happen if Aunt Petunia were not here to keep her husband respectable and Dudley were not here to encourage Vernon’s drinking. You think you know it would happen, and you try not to think about it. His new favorite punishment is shoving you into the closet for hours on end and allowing Dudley to stomp up and down the stairs as loudly and angrily as he wants.
But it is pain, and they taught you pain, so the pain taught you things too.
The pain taught you the value of numbness, of shutting down any sign of weakness they can prey on. Dudley can sniff out weakness like he sniffs out candy – and his waistline spoke enough of that for you to hide it down deep
The pain taught you resilience, how to avoid giving them the satisfaction of knowing the sting their words and blows carry. You hide it with annoyance, with false bravado worthy of a bloody Oscar if you do say so yourself because you are terrified out of your mind sometimes, wake in a cold sweat thinking of your Uncle’s anger… You force yourself to calm, and you ignore it.
The pain taught you control because your freakish incidents earn punishments, and even if Vernon rarely lays a hand on you, you still remember feeling your windpipe crushed by large sausage fingers, still feel yourself lifted from the floor and shaken up and down as your Uncle screams himself hoarse.
You’ve never known love or contentment, never known peace or joy, but the letter from Hogwarts is as close to it as you’ve ever been. You decide you don’t care if you’re a freak, if freaks don’t have to stay here, and you think the pain is over.
But it isn’t over, not really, because the Dursleys taught you pain, and now it’s the Wizarding World’s turn.
You nearly die, not that you care.
Hermione and Ron nearly die, which you very much do care about.
Draco Malfoy’s insults seem a small price to pay for this.. affection, this friendship, because you’re touched without ill intent, because they smile at you without it being a grimace, because they care if you’re upset or zone out, worried you’re still a small boy in a cupboard under the stairs that you’re never going to escape. Hermione goes on walks with you, and you think of telling her, but decide against it. Sometimes the way she looks at your scars makes you wonder if she does know, but she never asks.
(But Malfoy does get to you, gets to some dark and ugly part of you that makes you think of Uncle Vernon drunk on a Monday night and angry as ever, and you hate him for it. Hate him for making him feel like that, for making him so mad he can’t control himself. You notice, with no small amount of satisfaction, that it is the same in reverse)
Pain becomes an old friend, an old best friend when you come back with the freak wand to match your freak hair and freak blood.
Second-year you nearly die (oh well), and Ginny and Ron nearly die (you really need friends with self-preservation skills).
Third-year you nearly die (it’s a habit at this point) and Hermione and Sirius nearly die (both of which fill you with a sense of dread, because you’ve never known happiness, and now that you have you want to hoard it like a jealous dragon, guard it safely, in secret, where no one can take it from you again) but you have a Godfather now and he cares about you, thinks you’re worth something beyond the lightning bolt scar you’ve come to hate. You long to be a family with him, but Dumbledore insists you stay with the Dursleys.
Safe, he always insists, and you wonder if he knows what the word means.
Fourth-year you nearly die (Cedric does die) and barely escape with your wand and the corpse. He’s back, you’d seen him, and you feel terrified. It’s a new pain, this terrible ache at Cedric’s loss, because this isn’t a memory or a possibility you’re grieving – you’d known Cedric, been friendly with him, and now…
Fifth-year a part of you dies, and the Dursleys only get worse. They refuse to give you food, and you’d refuse to eat it even if it did exist. You know it’s unhealthy, but you can’t care anymore. This pain of grief is well taught now, and you learn nothing from it but misery. You hate it, like you want to hate Malfoy but don’t have the energy to, like you wish you didn’t have to hate the Dursleys…
Sixth-year Dumbledore dies, and you don’t shed a tear. You lost tears when you lost Sirius, and grief is well-known.
And by the time you think of your pain again… by that time you’ve already died and had your family and had it ripped away once more…
 I’m ready to die
You’ve had to face the truth in Dumbledore’s favoritism, and your own martyrization.
You’d been meant to die – marked as equal – been unsurprised to die – does it hurt? – because pain is an old best friend and you had little left to lose. You could’ve been in Slytherin, but you’ve always been too headstrong for long-term strategies, and you are willing to die for love.
 And you reflect on pain.
Pain taught and pain learned, pain given, and pain received…
 You have to mean it!
And you wonder, for perhaps the first time, if Dumbledore had put you with the Dursleys for that reason. A weapon needs to know pain, needs to know fear, so he’d be willing to risk more for less.
For the first time, you wonder if he’d ever cared, or if that had been a lie too.
“Potter?” Malfoy inquires, and you stare at him, at the grey eyes glinting with something, something he can’t name. “What are you doing here?”
You shrug, sitting comfortably in the exact spot you’d died. You think Malfoy knows, if the confused look mixed with panic is any indication.
 “Potter is this…?”
You nod, clutching your legs a bit closer to your chest. You know the wars over, know it had long been over, but you still feel ever death weight on your soul. You still read every name on the memorial as a personal failure, and for some reason, your own death is the calmest thought you have.
 “Why?”
You bite your lip, unsure of how to explain. Malfoy sighs, and plops next to you, leaning into you – because the war is over, and you need to remember that, and you’re not the boy under the staircase anymore – without hesitation.
A week ago, you would’ve put up a week protest, but you know better now. Malfoy, when comfortable, was like a clingy octopus. You’ve carried him between classes before when he refused to let you go.
“Harry?” He inquires, and it’s your name that makes you look at him, look at the way the forest glows in his eyes.
 You look away quickly.
“I thought the pain would be over,” You manage, nearly choking on the words as they roll off your tongue. “I thought it wouldn’t hurt anymore. And it didn’t…”
But wait, that sounds bad and Malfoy’s face tells him it sounds bad…
“I don’t want to die,” You assure him, adding a private not anymore where he can’t hear, “I just… don’t know what the hell I’m doing.”
He smiles at that, a soft grin you find yourself hypnotized by dawning his stunning features.
“None of us do,” and he takes your hand to squeeze it, gently tracing the lines you have seared in your brain:
 I must not tell lies
“Doesn’t mean you need to be alone, Scar head.” You shrug.
He rolls his eyes before standing, brushing the twigs and dirt off his uniform before offering you a hand.
You take it, feeling a spark run through you at the touch.
 “Alright, Potter?” He asks.
 You send him another grin.
Pain is taught and pain is learned.
Hatred can be something within, or something created, but you have better things to worry about than a broken childhood.
“Never better,” you reply, and as you walk back to Hogwarts, you think not of the pain you’ve felt and the lessons you’ve learned, but the way Malfoy’s smile might taste against yours.

Hey I’m Plume and I’m super excited to join this group. It’s been too long since I wrote in the HP universe. I can’t wait to plot with you all. Here you have my vision of Parvati in this AU !
Family
Parvati and Padma were born to second generation Indian wizards immigrants. Their mother, Nusrat, worked in Saint Mungo and their father, Prajeet, had a shop specialised in magical items from India and other parts of Asia in Diagon Alley. Prajeet was a ravenclaw alumni and Nusrat a hufflepuff alumni. Prajeet insisted on choosing a name starting with a p for the twins to follow a family tradition. The twins had a great childhood and comfortable home life with two loving parents.
Hogwarts
Honestly I did not change anything from what is canon in the books.  Parvati was a lively girl who enjoyed gossiping, pretty and girly things. She was best friend with Lavender Brown. She loved divination and transfiguration. She had even planed on making a career in divination after graduating. She dreamed of opening a shop with Lavender under Professor Trelawney’s guidance. She was a popular and pretty girl who knew her place in the school’s social hierarchy. (Dean did call her and Padma “the best looking girls in the year”) Yet she was compassionate and stood up for what she believed was right and for people she cared about (defending Neville or Harry for example). Being full of contradictions, Parvati defended people but also mocked others and spread rumours. She had a catty side and Lavender and her could be truly irritating to be around.
People who did not know her viewed her as shallow but if one paid closer attention they could see that there was more to her than petty gossip. Parvati cared about her grades and school work. She was a good student not as brilliant as Hermione but was serious about her studies and performed well.
She was excited to go with Harry to the Yule Ball, and could have gone with anyone as she was popular among the boys. She agreed to go with Harry out of vanity. He was champion and she liked the attention. Since Harry proved to be a terrible date she abandoned him to finish the evening with a handsome Beauxbâtons student who was actually interested in dancing and entertaining her. She ended up dating him for the rest of the year.
During the fifth year, she joined the Dumbledore’s Army because she believed it was the right thing to do and that Umbridge’s actions were intolerable. She was also selfishly motivated by wanting to perform well in her OWLs. She believed that they needed to practice before their exam and they were not allowed to do it in class so if she had to break rules, then she would. Being a member of the DA actually made her grow and some people realised that she was not that shallow. She had talents and was not simply Lavender giggling partner.
She was greatly pained not to be picked to be a member of the Slug Club. It bruised her ego to not be considered special enough. She wished that she could have been part of the elitist gatherings. During that year, after Katie Bell’s attack, her parents wanted to withdraw their daughters from the school. Both girls had to fight and argue to remain in Hogwarts. Parvati was also a bit uncomfortable with Ron and Lavender’s relationship at times. (Gross) public display of affections were too much for her. Although she was furious when they broke up and both best friends could be heard frequently cursing Ron until more dramatic events made his behaviour insignificant.
Seventh year was hell. Parvati hated every second of it. She banded together with Dumbledore’s Army members to protect younger students and resist. She lived day to day until the battle of Hogwarts. She was a pureblood and could have stood by and let the death eaters do their horrible deeds but it was not who she was. Her family had never believed in blood purity and the Patil twins were fighters. They would not watch their peers being tortured or abused. They had to do something about it, even if it cost them greatly. She worried about Dean and her muggleborn friends who had to hide. She also worried about Harry, Hermione and Ron. When the time came, she fought the finale battle.
After the battle of Hogwarts
Losing Padma shattered her. Something broke inside of Parvati. The battle had taken her twin and many friends from her. It also made her a killer. She was lost and aimless. She did not see herself keep on with her life as if the world had not ended. She ditched her plan of opening a divination shop with Lavender. She could not see herself going on with the future she had planed for years. It felt wrong. It was a dark time for everybody and she could not find comfort in any of her friends or her family. They were all so broken. She could not stand the shadow of a life they were all living.
To escape it all, she put her transfiguration and DA training to use and became a curse-breaker for Gringotts. It was a miracle they recruited her but she guessed that extraordinary times called for exceptions. For a few years, she was constantly travelling and working. It was her way to cope with the trauma. The irony was that she tried to escape the war by entering a career that required her to fight all the time. It was not really a smart move or the best way to recover. However it was all she knew and it had the benefits of taking her away from home. She could not stand seeing the sadness in her parents eyes or wandering in places that reminded her of Padma. It was even hard to look at herself in a mirror and see her sister’s image. She avoided her reflection for years. Nusrat and Prajeet disapproved of her job as they were afraid of losing the only daughter they had left.  Parvati was constantly risking her life.
She tried to shed everything that used to make her “her”. Her last year of school had already stripped her of her bubbly personality. Losing Padma finished erasing that lively side. War had changed everybody. It was particularly noticeable in people like Parvati. Gone were the giggles and sparkling eyes. At times she missed the girl she used to be. She would give anything to be able to just one more time, sit with Padma and Lavender and laugh about Luna’s radish earrings or roll her eyes at Dean and Seamus being silly in the common room. She tried not to think or dwell about the past because it only hurt.
However time started to heal her wounds. She would never forget what had happened to her, her sister and her friends but it became easier to live with the trauma. She found herself enjoying her visits back home more than dreading them. During those times, she would visit old friends as what felt like a mandatory task and was bittersweet. Eventually just as she longed for breaks between missions, she realised that she longed for her friends and a kinship. She had been alone for too long and it was time that she tried to live her life again instead of escaping it.
She recently decided to settle down and quit her job at Gringotts. She needed to try to figure out what to do for the rest of her life. Did she want to go back to her original plan or not ? She could not really decide. George Weasley who like her had lost a twin and was the only person who she felt understood her pain and struggles, kindly offered her a job at his Wizard Wheezes shop. She took it knowing that working in a joke and tricks shop would not be boring and that George and her could support each others.
Parvati did not join the Order of Phoenix as she wanted nothing to do with wars anymore. She had had enough. She remained a member of the Dumbledore’s Army but was not actively participating in anything. She simply promised to be there if another battle happened.
Summary
I kept everything book canon until the battle of Hogwarts. Padma’s death broke Parvati. She abandoned her plans of opening a divination shop. She shut people down and left to become a curse-breaker to escape her pain and trauma. For years she rarely visited home and kept very little contact with her friends. Time healed her a little. She recently came back to the UK and decided to try and live a peaceful life. George Weasley offered her a job at Weasley Wizard Wheezes. She wishes to reconnect with her friends or make new ones. She is still a member of the Dumbledore Army but not an active one.
Abilities
Working as a curse breaker made Parvati a better witch and she continued to develop her magic and abilities. She has plenty of spells in her sleeves. She is now able to cast a corporeal patronus.
Wanted connections
Perhaps someone who tried to be there for Parvati but she shut them down and was not really responsive to the friendship and support given to her
Other curse-breakers
Flings (Parvati was not in a head space to date but she could have had flings here and there while she was back home)
Former Beauxbâtons boyfriend ?? (i don’t know if anyone is an alumni and fits the age range)
Hogwarts/Gryffindor/DA rekindling friendships. Seriously my girl was like bye everyone and only sporadically came home for years. She feels super guilty of abandoning her friends to go on her own journey. And she wants to make amends and rebuild relationships. She also feel bad for how she treated Luna and Hermione at times when they were in school.
Perhaps a new friend she made recently
Someone she does not vibe with
Someone she was not friend with in school but they are seeing each others in a new light ?
Cousin ? If anyone has indian or part indian character we could try to work something
Former Hogwarts boyfriend(s). We know nothing in canon about Parvati’s love life but it’s easy to speculate that she dated a few people.
Enemies from Hogwarts that remained enemies
Perhaps someone who had an unrequited crush on her at school ?

HP’s spells: the Patronus Charm
Hello once again, yes I know I’ve been away for quite a time, but as you can imagine a lot of things are happening and I was not able to sit and write something until today.
So, probably since I started this thread of Spells from the Harry Potter world, adapted in real life in the very spirit of Pop Culture Magick, you may have wondered when I would speak about the Patronus Charm. And here we go!
Tumblr media
I’ve to say that this has been the easiest spell to adjust for real purpose and you’ll see why. In the Potterverse this spell is used to keep away Dementors which are negative entity who feed on positive thoughts of people until they’re left only with the bad ones.
That means that we can  use this spell to banish negative energies and/or entities from a place or even from within. For me, performing a patronus charm is the equivalent of the traditional Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram (or its variations) that you can perform before to perform a ritual, or when you feel that something is around you and is up to no good.
How to cast the spell:
1. Of course you will need to focus on a happy memory (doesn’t matter if recent or old) that has to be intense, and need to make you easily feel good vibes. If not, because this can be hard for somebody, you can just focus on positive thoughts or anything you like and that makes you feel well.
2. Now, let this thought pervade your entire being, and your mind. Meanwhile you could visualise the wand’s tip starting to shine, just like a piece of iron that will almost reach the melting point.
3. Say out loud (if that’s possible) the words
EXPECTO PATRONUM
At this point release the energy that your positive thoughts will have gathered, and you can imagine the rest of the spells as follows:
a. just a light coming out of the wand, white as a fog, expanding in the space around you, pushing away any negative energy or unwanted entity. The wave of energy will expand until reaching the walls of the room where you’re casting the spell, or towards the infinite of your horizon in case you’re outdoor.
b. the Patronus can take a particular shape, and manifest as an animal. Now the question will be which form will your patronus take? Not like in the movies or the books, the animal will be one of your choice and that will feel special for you. If you have a familiar or pet, it could take that form, or you may want to use an animal according to the totem powers usually associated with them.
If you wanna try it a bit differently, the first time you’re going to perform this spell, don’t do it when actually needed. Instead, meditate and imagine yourself in a wood (or at Hogwarts ;) ) and call forth the Patronus. Don’t push it and just let the magick do its work and it will show you which Patronus you have. It will be your higher-self/subconscious or whatever you call it, to show you this “totem” and of course it could change during time, depending on your need, spiritual evolution etc.
The point a is very reliable when is about banishing from a place unwanted forces, while the second can be used in the same way (the light will come from the patronus and not from the wand directly) but the bonus here is that you can “see” the patronus fighiting with an entity if that’s what you’re trying to banish.
EXTRA USES: the Patronus could be left to guard a place, although this spell wouldn’t last for long period of time, but only as long as part of the witch’s focus is left on it. You can try as well to send psychic messages to somebody or as if it were a servitor, you can task the patronus so it’ll help out. You can send it also to protect somebody for a short period of time, if needed.
BONUS: if you’d like, and you’re on Pottermore, you can take the test there, and see what’s your patronus and if that’s of your like, you can use this spell using the animal you’ve got sorted there. At the moment is what I do, and my Patronus is a Nibelung Cat.
Also, you don’t need a wand to perform the spell of course. If you’re on the go, just use your finger, or only your imagination. And that is it.
What’s yours? Let me know how the spell goes for you, and I hope as always you can enjoy my article!
Magickal greetings to you all until the next post.
