I’ve been hearing/reading folks doubting themselves. As fanfic authors. As fanfic readers. Being afraid to put themselves out there. And you shouldn’t! You’re awesome!

But I’ve been there; I get it. So let me see if I can help:

“What if what I write is bad?”

It’s almost undoubtedly not as bad as you think it is, first of all.

Secondly, writing “badly” is better than not writing and is an inescapable and important step in being a writer.

Every fanfic writer to ever write has (accurately or not) thought their work was bad at some point and been afraid to share it. Yes, even your favorite one. Yes, even that one with a bajillion kudos and being offered first-borns in the comments.

“What if no one likes it?”

If you find an idea interesting or compelling or funny or sweet or heart-wrenching, I’ll bet someone else does too. But you can’t find them if they don’t know you exist, so write/share the thing so they can find you!

“My fic stat ratios are bad; people must hate my fic/my fic must be bad.”

The stats on AO3 are both a blessing and a curse, but they are absolutely not indicators of quality for a whole host of reasons (I actually have a whole post in draft on just that topic). There are multiple reasons your hits/kudos/comments numbers could look like they do that have nothing to do with the quality of your fic or its reception by those that read it.

“I really like this fic, but I don’t want to annoy the author.”

You won’t. I promise. If we didn’t want readers to engage with us, we wouldn’t post our work; I can write and read my stuff with far less effort if I don’t post it, honestly. We love comments and kudos and reblogs and messages and all that. If an author doesn’t want comments, they can just turn that feature off.

“I would comment, but I’m afraid I’ll come off as weird.”

The letters perfectly aligned. No floating letters whatsoever. Despite everything being mostly neat, there was a clear smudge over the letters.

I’ve been stressed as of recently with a huge project, so would it be possible to ask for a Yi Sang scenario where his partner is under a lot of stress? Thank you ;0;

Yi Sang has noticed his partner has been quite stressed for a while now. He knows they've been working on something complicated, but as smart as he is, it's nothing he can help them with. If he could, he would've done it already.

So he settles for being there with them whenever they are available. Cuddling, snuggling and kissing them whenever they take a moment to rest. It's still not enough. It's time he took matters into his hands.

With the help of his colleagues, he manages to single them out. He doesn't plan to take them away from their responsibilities for a whole day, just a couple hours is enough.

"Yi Sang, I don't know if I have the time t-" Their protests are silenced by a sudden, tender kiss to their lips. Yi Sang cups their face in both his hands and smiles at them.

"I don't mean to take much out of your time, I know you have been busy recently." He explains, "I want to show you something. Would you follow along, if only for a moment?"

They're flustered, face heating up with a healthy blush. They nod slowly, and so he takes their hand and guides them to his room. There's a strange machine in the middle of the room. Probably one of his newest inventions.

"Sit on the bed, please." He tells them and they nod, following his orders.

He walks up to the machine, fiddling with buttons and levers, and then he goes to the room's lightswitch and turns the lights off. The sudden darkness surprises his partner, but after a few seconds, the room is lit up with countless light spots. They realize the machine is some kind of projector. The room looks like a beautiful starry sky.

Yi sang sits on the bed and then pats his lap gently. They realize he wants them to lay on him. With a weary sigh, they lay their head on his lap and look up at their own hands, which are now part of this miniature galaxy. Even Yi Sang's face is an extension of the starry sky. He looks beautiful.

He lets out a contented sigh, then looks down at his partner.

"The night sky we see is but a drop of water in an endless pool of possibilities." He begins, "And the stars we see... are ghosts of what has been long extinguished. In this context, it's easy to forget oneself- to realize how small we must be in the grand scheme of things."

He pets their hair gently, leaning back against the pillows.

"This too, shall pass." He says. "Rest."

AKAASHI!!!! I have news 😰 there were already 3 days of exams (tomorrow I'll have more and that will go until day 4), literature and grammar was easy (just text interpretation 😭 I actually git sad I studied so much for it and at the end I didn't need to), MATH WAS PURE CHAOS. IM 100% SURE I DIDN'T DO WELL. Sigh, math is not cool ❌️❌️❌️ today I had (it's a long list): history, English, geography and sociology (each of them w 20 questions except for English) and I GENUINELY NEEDED TO REST DURING IT BCS OMG it wasn't even hard yk the questions just were SOOOOO badly written that when I talked about it w my friend he said that he agreed w me 😭😭 English was so good tho, I'm 99% sure I got a full score!!!!! Now there's just biology, chemistry and physics left!!! I'm actually so scared for those it's crazy 😭😭😭😭 I love chem and bio BUT PHYSICS????? JUST THE NAME SCARES ME!!!!! 😰😰😰😰 No jokes I'm actually so bad at it it's crazy (even tho I study a lot of it + I already tried everything I could and I still get a mid score) And AAAAAHHH THE BIO TOPICS ARE SO BORINGGGG I love bio so for ME to be saying that it's bcs it's so bad it's actually a crime 💔💔💔💔💔 I'm actually so cooked akaashi send help ☹️☹️☹️ I just want a hug bro 😭 I feel alone all the time bcs of all my studying 😭😭😭😭

Learning and studying will only aid you, it's not a loss that you worked hard but I'm glad you found the test papers easy.

Also, you need to do what you ought to do, it can't be helped. You will most certainly have time to have fun once it's over right? Stay strong until then.

I await to hear great news update from you. Even if it isn't, there's always a next time and you'll have to keep trying until you're satisfied. Work hard but not so much that you break your back and won't be able to do anything more.
