I never want to hear the phrase “collective liberation” from people who think the Israeli/Jewish hostages should have just been left to rot in literal captivity, ever again.

it’s happened enough that it’s a pattern: someone will make a post about humanitarianism & social justice, jews will reblog it, then op will throw a tantrum about “zionists” agreeing with them, and lock reblogs about it.
and it would be one thing if the replies were saying anything hateful or clowning on them in any way. I’ve had posts break containment and take off in a corner of tumblr I don’t particularly like, and either turned off reblogs or notifications as a result… but in those instances people are actually saying awful things in the replies. in this case, all those nasty evil zionists are just… agreeing with op’s humanitarian position?
like obviously they hate any jews who don’t stick to the script and say all the right words and perform the adequate antizionist flagellation of the rest of the jewish community… but there’s more to it.
they’re mad you’re actively proving you aren’t the caricature that antizionists have made of you. you’re a “zionist” (whether you actually are a zionist, or just a non-zionist or antizionist who wasn’t ideologically “pure” enough) clearly demonstrating that you exist outside the proscribed role as evil reactionary jewish-supremacist fascist who wants a genocidal ethnostate to destroy the palestinians. the omnicause antizionist narrative is not only that zionism is wrong but that it’s the antithesis to humanitarianism, compassion, and social justice, etc—and the fact that you a) have never advocated for genocide or an ethnostate and b) keep agreeing with compassionate, humanitarian, social justice-oriented positions shows how flimsy that lie is.
and how dare you! didn’t you read your script, jew?

Congo
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) harbours deep wounds that the world often overlooks. In recent years, the country has been plagued by a complex web of conflict, corruption, and human rights abuses that continue to devastate its people.
Conflict and Instability:
Congo's tumultuous history of conflict is rooted in a struggle for power, control over vast mineral resources, and ethnic tensions. Armed groups, often backed by neighboring countries or international interests, have fueled decades of violence, leaving communities shattered and displaced. The ongoing conflict has led to widespread poverty, malnutrition, and lack of access to basic healthcare and education.
The Disturbing Use of Rape:
One of the most harrowing aspects of the Congolese conflict is the systematic use of rape as a weapon of war. Women, men, and children alike have been subjected to brutal sexual violence perpetrated by armed groups, soldiers, and even civilians. This horrific tactic inflicts profound physical and psychological trauma, tearing apart the social fabric of communities. While women and girls bear the brunt of this violence, experiencing it on a larger scale and more systematically, men and boys are also targeted, facing similar horrors that result in stigma, ostracisation, and enduring health challenges, including HIV/AIDS and reproductive complications.
Humanitarian Crisis and International Response:
The humanitarian crisis in Congo remains dire, with millions in need of assistance. Humanitarian organizations struggle to provide essential aid and protection in the face of ongoing violence and logistical challenges. International efforts to mediate the conflict and support peacebuilding initiatives have had limited success, as underlying issues of governance, corruption, and economic exploitation persist.
Calls for Action:
As global citizens, we cannot turn a blind eye to the suffering in Congo. We must amplify the voices of those affected, advocate for justice and accountability for perpetrators of violence, and support grassroots efforts to promote peace and reconciliation. Addressing the root causes of conflict, including economic inequalities and political instability, is crucial to fostering sustainable change and rebuilding communities.
Conclusion:
Congo's story is a painful reminder of the human cost of conflict and the urgent need for collective action to protect human rights and promote peace worldwide. By raising awareness, supporting humanitarian efforts, and demanding accountability, we can contribute to a future where the people of Congo can live in dignity, free from fear and violence.
Let us stand in solidarity with the resilient people of Congo and work together towards a brighter and more peaceful future.
Here are some ways you can help and donate to support relief efforts in Congo. Times are tough for many right now, but even small contributions can make a big difference. If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing these resources and spreading awareness can also help.
International Rescue Committee (IRC): Provides emergency aid, healthcare, and protection services to displaced people in Congo. Donation Link: IRC Donation Page
Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders): Offers medical care and humanitarian assistance to people affected by the conflict in Congo. Donation Link: MSF Donation Page
GoFundMe Campaigns: Search for verified campaigns specifically supporting relief efforts in Congo on platforms like GoFundMe.
Local NGOs: Support local organisations and NGOs actively providing aid and support on the ground in Congo. Research reputable organisations through platforms like Charity Navigator or GuideStar to ensure your donations are impactful and legitimate.

for the tarnma penpals AU: how has Tarn ended up in a significant position, and what (if anything) does that mean for *Pharma's* behaviour as his significant other? (I imagine a senior medic's other half has less direct impact on their work bc it's much more of a technical specialism...). And how do they negotiate that as part of negotiating a relationship? Because aiui neither one is precisely prone to altering his goals or behaviours for other people...
Tarn's position and how he got there
There's not a specific point in time for this AU's canon divergence, but basically when Megatron signed an accord with Optimus to end the war, he actually took the proper time to deradicalize the DJD in particular as well as remain the leader of the Decepticons to be a proper advocate for them post-war. Rather than rejecting the Decepticon ideology as a whole, Megatron essentially reverts their ideals back to the pre-war, social justice-oriented beliefs.
Tarn ends up in a high social/political position because Megatron asked him to (or I suppose, given the nature of their relationship, ordered him to, and even if he would've accepted a "no" Tarn is not in a position/state of mind to deny him) for the sake of post-war reconciliation and peace efforts. I haven't actually figured out what his formal position would be, and I also haven't even figured out if he'd be in some official government position or if he's just an activist/influencer of sorts (lol). Basically, Tarn is made to act as the poster child for the Decepticons of how anyone can reform no matter how... "troubled" their past is. He's expected to renounce violence, take up a respectable occupation, participate in reconciliation efforts and social programs, so on and so forth. So he's an activist in a way, I guess? Maybe he could be some sort of "Secretary of X" or be part of a branch of diplomatic/humanitarian efforts (sort of like the Peace Corps or Fulbright Association here in the US). Either way, his job definitely has as much of a social/political posturing element as well as proper nose to the grindstone work involved.
Impacts on the Tarn/Pharma relationship
As you noted, Pharma also holds a senior position in the government (he's the new CMO of the Autobots, which might end up translating into some sort of cabinet role like "Secretary of Public Health" or something). Something important to note about the premise is that PPAU is meant to have recurring themes related to contrasting identities of "the public figurehead versus the private self," so functionally Tarn and Pharma are both in equally high positions (or as close as to make no difference). They are both under heavy scrutiny, either because of who they were during the war (Tarn) or by nature of their position (Pharma, with bonus points for the fact that he has big shoes to fill from Ratchet).
However, their positions don't affect the development of their relationship from strangers to lovers; it's a Pen Pals AU, so they first encounter and get to know each other anonymously. It's only once their real life identities are known to each other that things get complicated. Neither of them see any reason to abandon their current roles on account of their intimate relationship; rather, the complication is that they want their relationship to remain private because it's the only respite both of them have from their exhausting public roles. They're actually pretty strongly in agreement about this, and it's mostly outside forces (political manipulation-- possibly in the form of direct conversations with M and OP-- or just general public opinion if their relationship gets leaked) pressuring them to use their relationship for political optics, act differently, or even just break up.

She Wrote An Op-Ed Criticizing ‘War Criminal, Demented and Genocidal Joe Biden’ On Gaza, Forever Palestine. The Justice Department Accused Her Of Breaking The Law.
A Federal Watchdog Ruled That a Department of Justice Employee’s Article Did Not Violate The Hatch Act.
— Shawn Musgrave | August 14 2024,
Tumblr media
Two World’s Most Wanted Genocidal War Criminals: Fascist Zionist 🐖 Satan-Yahu and Demented Joe Biden in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, on July 25, 2024. Photo: Susan Walsh/AP
In March, After a Justice Department Employee Wrote An Op-ed criticizing the Biden Administration Over the Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza, her supervisors accused her of violating federal law. Last week, the Office of Special Counsel squarely rejected that allegation, but the investigation sent a chilling message to other federal employees organizing around Israel and Gaza.
Emma West Rasmus, a longtime Justice Department employee, wrote an op-ed in early March for The Hill about a recent visit to Palestine with her church. “I decided in November, and am surer than ever in March: Unless the Democratic Party and its leaders call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and a lasting end to the Israeli occupation of Palestine, I will not vote for Biden or any Democrat,” she wrote.
The article, which published on a Friday, initially included a note stating West Rasmus “works at the Department of Justice and is a member of the Israel/Palestine Mission Network of the Presbyterian Church.”
The following Monday, West Rasmus was accused by senior Justice Department attorneys and ethics officials of violating the Hatch Act, according to records reviewed by The Intercept. The Hatch Act prohibits federal employees from using their “official authority” to engage in certain political activity, especially advocating for or against a particular candidate or political party.
“When you start your federal government service,” West Rasmus told The Intercept, “on your very first day you learn about the Hatch Act.”
In November, the Office of Special Counsel, which investigates Hatch Act violations, put out guidance explaining that federal employees could express their views on Israel and Gaza without running afoul of the law. OSC also clarified that the Hatch Act only limits partisan political speech “while on duty or in the federal workplace.”
In recent months, agency employees have organized letters, rallies, and protest art urging the Biden administration to change course on Gaza. Organizers have been careful to follow the law, but they were still “worried about the threat of being accused of Hatch Act violations,” said a State Department employee who spoke with The Intercept on condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation. “Even though we know senior [political appointees] have rarely been held accountable, we know it has been wielded or threatened against junior staff.”
West Rasmus said she is the only federal employee she is aware of who has been formally accused under the Hatch Act over Gaza dissent actions.
The Justice Department suggested West Rasmus violated the Hatch Act by listing her federal employment in the article. Two DOJ attorneys recommended that she ask The Hill to remove these references, which West Rasmus did. The current version of the article does not indicate she is a federal employee at all.
The Justice Department also suggested that West Rasmus violated the Hatch Act by sharing the article on LinkedIn, and the DOJ attorneys recommended that she remove her own social media posts and even ask others to stop sharing it.
They suggested that by taking these “mitigating steps,” OSC might go easy on her.
Five months later, however, OSC determined there was no Hatch Act violation in the first place.
“Although you engaged in political activity while referencing that you work for the federal government in the op-ed, and specifically the Department of Justice in the byline, these references do not constitute a use of official authority rising to the level of a Hatch Act violation,” reads an August 8 determination letter from OSC.
West Rasmus, who still works for the Justice Department, says this decision lifted a huge weight off her shoulders, but that the investigation itself “absolutely had a chilling effect” on her and other federal employees trying to galvanize internal dissent on Gaza policy.
“I always felt like putting the op-ed out there in the way that I did was worth the risk,” she said. “That speaks to how urgently I and other federal employees feel about the need to take actions that we wouldn’t otherwise take.”
The Justice Department did not respond to The Intercept’s request for comment.

"she made those filters and claimed she got no money from them again and again and it came out that she was actually extremely racist and has a history of employing social justice movements to her account to get money from false advocacy. just the racism alone is contrasting to the character she presented when discussing the horrors palestinians go through for no reason BUT SHE HAD A HISTORY OF SCAMMING LIKE ????"
I'm pretty sure it's that Shumirun Nessa lady? That gal who made the filters but from what I heard she had a racist past by doing blackface
OMG YESSS THANK YOU THATS HER but yeah she did black face and like to draw old practices of minstrel shows into COMEDY and implying it’s funny when you’re not even in the place to make jokes about black generational trauma and historial injustices is just ??? makes no sense when later on she then wants to advocate for palestine when she has had a good laugh or two at traumas that don’t directly affect her. i just never trusted her again because she made good money from those filters with no proof of donation and her comedy is a big contrast from this humanitarianism she tries to make her profile look

I think the anti Howard anon is going off on hypotheticals in terms what Howard’s intentions were when collaborating in those projects! But I am interested to know your take on Howard and social issues. Your analysis has been spot on!
You and I have the same mind lol! Exactly. I think there was just a disconnect/disagreement on what we both think Howard's intentions/motivations are. Or if they're an acceptable reason. When talking about canon characterization, I really don't like to get into speculation that isn't based on canon. Or if it just doesn't seem to add up with the character. But who knows!
I'd be happy to tell you what I think Howard's thoughts are on social politics! Sorry in advance if I jump from point to point. My interpretation is pretty simple tbh - based on what we see in Agent Carter, he's obviously aware of social injustices and how they impact minorities/an oppressed class - so he isn't like, an oppression denier. He is, however, pretty blasé about it and I think that's where it ends for him.
I've already said I don't think Howard is some kinda altruist, nor is he a humanitarian. I think he's in a high valued position in society and doesn't need to worry about things that don't directly impact him, and he simply doesn't. He definitely isn't going to sit down slinging slurs with his peers but he isn't going to give them a lecture on, let's say, the wage gap lol. The most I could see him doing at the time is getting annoyed with the pure stupidity rather than the hate speech itself and sarcastically or slyly telling them off - not because he's an ally, but because he doesn't like dumb people.
Now, the only reason I haven't said that Howard is completely apathetic to it is because he would like to help if it involves someone within his own circle. Remember how I said Howard's actions/motivations are deeply personal and not for some abstract or overall good? I think that applies here as well. He helped Wilkes because he was now a friend-ish type (Howard doesn't have friends besides Peggy and Jarvis it seems) and because he was smart and because he was getting fucked over/scapegoated because he was a black man available.
Wait - I actually just remembered what I wanted to touch on - like what I was thinking when I first mentioned 'Howard vs social issues'. About homophobia - what I think in regards to AC Howard and gay people I actually don't think he's super homophobic. I wanted to touch on this specifically cause he's portrayed as the Patron Saint of Homophobia. I think he just doesn't care you know I think he is more likely to be like "man poor bastard" than "what a degenerate". He'd meet a gay person and think "that sucks lol" and then go about his business. I truly think that's as far as his thought process extends to. Now, this is definitely liable to change when it comes to his own family. Especially since post-AC Howard definitely lost the plot somewhere along the way, but even that Howard isn't burning the rainbow flag.
Okay I kind of changed my mind in the middle of writing this post. AC Howard is never gonna be a social justice advocate but I don't think he would be letting things lie down. He isn't prone to inaction but I maintain that he wouldn't be doing any grand gestures or doing anything that doesn't directly benefit him and his inner circle.
Oh and btw, I totally believe Howard engages in more subtle forms of bigotry. I think I've already said this. He probably made like, gay jokes for example. He definitely made misogynistic jokes (canon). Things like that.
I don't know if I can go on without being redundant, but that sums up what I think about Howard vs social issues. He's not a "I don't see color/gender/sexuality" type (like, canonically he acknowledges these things) but he isn't gonna fund your social rights rally because he feels strongly about the cause (maybe if you were a close friend he'd give some money or security but not unprompted).

Exploring Kamala Harris’ progressive stances: Equity, justice, and change
Kamala Harris’ journey to become the first Black and South Asian vice president of the United States is nothing short of groundbreaking. Now, as the 2024 presidential nominee, understanding Kamala Harris’ political stances offers valuable insight into her vision for the future. What key issues define her political agenda, and how might they affect her candidacy and the shaping of the nation? Let’s take a look at her stances to explore these questions further. Related How much do you know about Kamala Harris and her stance on LGBTQ+ rights? She could become president. Here’s a closer look at her history on LGBTQ+ stances. Your LGBTQ+ guide to Election 2024 Stay ahead of the 2024 Election with our newsletter that covers candidates, issues, and perspectives that matter. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Gaza As the Democratic presidential nominee, Harris has articulated her robust support for Israel’s right to defend itself, emphasizing the necessity of protection against threats from militant groups like Hamas. At the same time, she has acknowledged the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza, highlighting its severe impact on Palestinian civilians. In her recent remarks, Harris affirmed her commitment to working with President Joe Biden to negotiate a cease-fire and secure the release of hostages held by Hamas. “Now is the time to get a hostage deal and a cease-fire deal done,” she asserted in her Democratic National Convention speech. Moreover, Harris has consistently addressed the rights of Palestinians, advocating for their right to “dignity, security, freedom, and self-determination.” Her stance underscores a nuanced approach, aiming to maintain support from both pro-Israel Democrats and those advocating for Palestinian rights.  However, her campaign has said she doesn’t support an embargo on the sale of U.S. weapons to Israel, something long sought by pro-Palestinian protestors. She risks alienating them and other progressive voters if she doesn’t explain how her administration would differ from the current one’s approach. If she becomes president, Harris is expected to replace some of the chief architects of the Biden administration’s strategy in Gaza, The Wall Street Journal reported. Her national security adviser, Philip Gordon, has emphasized the need for diplomatic (rather than military) foreign policy solutions. However, she has not yet laid out concrete details about the diplomatic levers she could use to force Israel to end its targeting of Palestinian civilians. Abortion Kamala Harris has consistently championed the need to protect reproductive rights, advocating for national legislation that mirrors the protections once granted by Roe v. Wade. In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s 2022 Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, which overturned Roe, Harris emerged as a key figure in the Biden administration’s efforts to keep the issue at the forefront. Her proactive stance was underscored by a historic visit to an abortion clinic, marking the first such visit by a sitting vice president. During her tenure in the Senate, Harris was a vocal supporter of abortion rights. She co-sponsored legislation to ban states from restricting abortion rights and opposed a bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. She has also advocated for laws requiring states with histories of restricting abortion rights to obtain federal approval for new abortion-related laws. In her speech at the end of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, she mentioned that former President Donald Trump and his conservative allies are “out of their minds” for intending to empower extremists, cut social programs, and outlaw abortion across the country. I am begging, BEGGING people to understand that not everyone on the internet has seen everything on the internet that you have seen. There are algorithms. Just because the information is ON the ENTIRE INTERNET does not mean anyone with an internet connection is aware of it. ESPECIALLY celebrities. If they are ENTERTAINERS, their job is to entertain, not be a news outlet or fulltime activist- ESPECIALLY NOT AN ACTIVIST IN YOUR COUNTRY WHERE THEY DO NOT LIVE, OR EVEN SPEAK THE LANGUAGE. Just because they are aware of some social issues and have shown that they care or interacted with them, also does not mean they are aware of ALL of them because they probably do not spend every waking moment on social justice . Com pouring over every major humanitarian sociopolitical issue until their eyes bleed. "But they have a platform! They have money!!" THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE A PLATFORM. STOP TREATING THEM LIKE POLITICIANS. THAT IS NOT THEIR JOB. And as for money? Yes, it is a fair criticism if you don't like or want to support a certain celebrity because you never really see them engaging with charity or any social issue. But railing on someone and trying to cancel them for not being vocal about one specific issue? Especially right when it happened or is just reaching public awareness?? Utterly stupid self-aggrandizing bullshit. You just want to believe you're morally superior to someone.
It is FAR more important and helpful if a celebrity or rich person chooses one social issue to educate themselves on and put a lot of money and work into than making am instagram post at their PR person's behest about every single issue that arises saying "Uh, yeah, I agree with the masses. #ThisIssue".
Example: Do I trust Paris Hilton to people about global politics? ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Do I trust her to educate people and work on dismantling the Troubled Teen industry? YES 100%. SHE EXPERIENCED IT FIRSTHAND, KNOWS WHAT SURVIVORS NEED, BUILT AN ORGANIZATION SPECIFICALLY TO ADVOCATE FOR CHANGE AND SUPPORT VICTIMS OF IT. She has done an excellent job using her money and influence on this issue she is well versed on.
Do I trust Nicola Coughan to talk about Free Palestine? Yes. She's from Northern Ireland and has clearly educated herself on it.
Do I trust random tiktok influencers to make content educating people on the history of the state of Israel and colonization of Palestine and Zionism vs. regular Judaism? NO. NO I DO NOT AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU. Because it is DANGEROUS for uneducated people to jump in and start spreading misinformation or harmful stereotypes and god knows what else simply because they are ill-informed and have no idea what they're saying.
That doesn't mean if you're not an expert you shouldn't engage at all. Hayley Williams is an excellent example. During the height of Black Lives Matter, she handed over her instagram account to a organization of young black women in Nashville (where she lives) and let THEM educate on the issues using her platform. I want to see more celebrities doing this if they feel strongly about an issue.
And normal people? You can uplift and share information made by well-informed and reliable sources.
With my fellow white women especially, people are constantly pointing out how their bad activism HURTS the communities they're supposedly supporting. Sticking your nose in and acting like an expert damages people and damages the movement. But in the same breath, HORDES will descend when a random white woman who makes content about any random specific niche DOESN'T speak up immediately for every major issue as it arises. Bullying Elyse Meyers off of tiktok because she didn't want to dig into fully educating herself and then speaking on Free Palestine, watching all those lovely videos of dead babies and children being blown to pieces floating around while she was candidly posting occasional update tiktoks around her short comedy sketches ABOUT HER OWN TODDLER BEING IN THE ICU HAVING MULTIPLE HEART SURGERIES TO SAVE HIS LIFE was a fucking low point. There is such a thing as extenuating circumstances.
I also came across several videos the other day shaming BTS for not participating in the BDS Boycott??? I'VE barely heard of it and I'm American. They said because someone has very recently translated it to Korean, THEY SHOULD ALL KNOW ABOUT IT. Nevermind that they are all currently on their mandatory military training with limited time off, limited access to the internet, doing their fulltime military jobs. Nevermind that the boycott is just one small fucking side niche related to Free Palestine so knowing about the genocide in absolutely NO WAY ensures you're aware of the boycott at all let alone have seen the whole list let alone have the ability to implement it.
Exhaustion from over-exposing yourself to social justice failures is a very real, very much studied phenomenon. If it applies to you, it applies to everyone. Yes, even people with money and platforms. And no, entertainers should not be held accountable for any and all humanitarian failures across the world. They should not be expected to educate on all social issues themselves. YOUR POLITICIANS ARE RESPONSIBLE, AND YOU CAN HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE BY CONTACTING THEM, PRESSURING THEM, AND VOTING. If no one's representing the beliefs you want to see in government and you're legal age, RUN YOURSELF. Even if you're unsucessful, especially in local elections, you'd be surprised to see the party closer aligned to you adopting some of your ideas and policies- they're used to have no competition whatsoever, so they're quick to adopt anything that appears popular.
TLDR: The world does not revolve around you. Your personal experience and awareness is not universal. Stop cyberbullying people for not bandwagoning things they are completely uneducated about or being too tired with all the shit they're currently going through to speak on something. And again, for the love of god, CELEBRITIES. ARE NOT. YOUR PRIMARY. EDUCATORS. Most are not primed to educate on social issues. SUPPORT ACTIVIST ORGANIZATIONS INSTEAD.

"this is just like that artist that tried to reap the benefits of those fighting to free congo by releasing a horrible song she wanted to get streams by people who thought all the money she made would go to donations for humanitarian aid but instead she stayed silent."
Hi!! I saw this in your reblog and were you referring to the song that's like "I feel like you're abusing me"?
YES!!! there’s always something so sketchy about how she goes about it because i at first did support the song but then people began to ask questions and she showed over cropped screenshots as proof and was overall not someone i really trusted to uphold the promise of donating. that doesn’t have much to do with palestine but it was an example of how people always take advantage of others suffering because even if she donated or not you can still state in the end she benefitted more than those being abused in congo by having a spike in her indie artistry. i believe she had good intentions because she did actually make posts and raise awareness on the issue and provided links but then people came out saying she wasn’t even from congo and then the messy business with the song its just… i was not about to be a detective just to see who i should support
tbh i feel a better example is baby stormy who already has a problematic music history like the graveyard video shoot but beside that she also made a very broad song she states is about genocides and injustices happening around and put the congo, palestine, and other nations struggling which is absurd cus if you saw the music video you would know why… it honestly seemed like a cash grab to appear as an advocate and i don’t doubt she had bad intentions as well but it comes across as insensitive because it’s not really her place to make a creative statement through music such as that about issues that don’t apply to her (i mostly say this about palestine and the others she included).
but the BEST person to serve as an example that i actually no for a fact is more shitty than a dog park is that one comedian girl that was a very big advocate at the start of the palestine awareness 😭😭😭😭 i don’t know her name but she made those filters and claimed she got no money from them again and again and it came out that she was actually extremely racist and has a history of employing social justice movements to her account to get money from false advocacy. just the racism alone is contrasting to the character she presented when discussing the horrors palestinians go through for no reason BUT SHE HAD A HISTORY OF SCAMMING LIKE ???? i just donate on my own accord and sign action letters as well as other things.
