Hello, so maybe I’m misunderstanding something based on the bits and pieces I know about ethics and philosophy :what kinds of things constitute as morally good? You said and someone else said health is morally neutral. Which I get the individual part but wanting for others to be educated and healthy I thought * would be examples of moral goodness?¿ Help me to see more pf your point if you are willing
okay, let's talk about education and health.
those are both really big factors in a lot of people's lives, and of course it's good when people have access to opportunities for education and healthcare. I'm not arguing against that at all.
but there is no component of morality to people's level of education or health. attending college, for instance, does not make someone a better person than someone who dropped out of high school. a person with a college degree is likely to have access to better-paying jobs and impact their quality of life, sure, and higher education is desirable to many people because of that; totally understandable. but that's completely different from what I'm talking about, which is whether or not being educated is innately virtuous, which it's not. at an early age, especially, education is something that happens mostly at random, determined primarily by the opportunities available to the family someone is born into.
health is something that is moralized RELENTLESSLY, especially in American culture. many fat activists talk at length about how fatness is seen as a failure of both health and morality - the assumption being that a.) fat people are innately unhealthy and b.) a responsible person would make an effort not to be fat and therefore not to be unhealthy - and that's only one particularly visible example. think about the tendency, for instance, to suggest that people who die of COVID must deserve it based on assumptions made about their masking/vaccine status, as if thousands of people who took every possible precaution didn't also die. in my field, sex education, there's also a TERRIBLE tendency to stigmatize people with sexually transmitted infections and treat them as dangerous, irresponsible, and undeserving of sex of physical intimacy, the most prominent example being the AIDS epidemic during which many people very literally believed that the epidemic was a divine punishment for the "sin" of homosexuality.
of course, health has nothing to do with morality. terrible people live long and healthy lives, the kindest and most selfless people you'll ever meet die in agonizing pain from preventable diseases. similarly to education, it's largely determined by social position.
similarly, activities considered "healthy" carry no moral weight. if you want to eat your veggies or run marathons or never smoke a day in your life, awesome! that's great for you! and I'm right there with you, I love veggies and yoga and rock climbing and all kinds of activities, and I myself don't smoke. but nothing about any of those activities are like, divinely virtuous and make you a certifiable better person than someone who never exercises and lives on cheese and weed. that person is equally allowed to do that and is not an inferior person for choosing that path for their life.
again, healthcare and education are important to many people's quality of life, but they're human rights, not moral measurements.

Another one month, hop 13 🫶
Today she said "That!/?" and "فوق!"
She mastered peek-a-poo 🫣 splashed in water on hot days and and wrapped with wool on cold days, played with auntie Linda and ate a very tasty strawberry cake, had little to no symptoms vaccine, tried to steal my phone to take awkwardly cropped selfies, being thrown in the air, teething necklaces, climbing to the top of a slide with an adorable loud laughs as i scramble to keep up so she doesn't fall, popcorn, family gathering, long bubbles bath, making friends with Lia & Maya.
- She incredibly loves Here comes the sun - The Beatles, كل كبيبة - ريم بنا
- Dragons and dinosaurs in drag if you just believe.
- She grew pumpkins, sunflowers with uncle Omar.
- I tried to give her dorthy braids but she prefers to slap people and teach them a lesson to not touch her hair ever ever again.
- She ate the ceremony bescuits with cinnamon, she usually hates those!
- She does pretty good baby yoga except for the loudness, just like the one who raised her to be the greatest. Very demure, very mindful.
- She has unparalleled sense of fashion.
- She's ridiculously funny and bossy, she knows what she want and go after it fearlessly.
- She's trying so hard to play piano and host a musical event at her auntie Kinda's house, she's a real show stealer.
- She loves undressing everyone's socks and jewellery then hide them in god only knows where kind of places.
- She throws toys, dolls and keys to the (fake) fireplace. That's her way of saying, I'm your boss here y'all.
- She moves things from shelves to laundry baskets non-stop.
- She walks confidently, though she appears drunk but whatever.
- Yellow (lellow) blue (boo) purple (prlprlprl) daisy (dayday) bubble (buboo) please (peas) i know (ay no!)
- "Mommy loves her little Reema to the moon and?"
- "Bak!"

I asked my yoga teacher if she knew anyone who would do the reiki attunements and lessons for trades. I told her I'm a cult survivor, and I have a very specific reason for approaching it this way.
Because I don't intend on investing potentially a few thousand dollars for classes and permission to energy heal. I feel like the sunk-cost fallacy makes the practitioner more susceptible to tell themselves something is working - when it really isn't, and they can't accept such a massive loss.
Which isn't to say I don't think energy healing has it's benefits. I do. I also believe it has limits, and I believe in vaccines/antibiotics/therapy. The worst trying reiki or energy healing on someone who's suffering can do, is nothing. And the best it can do is be a part of their healing/coping toolbox.
I'm just not interested in putting myself in debt for something like this. And thankfully, my yoga teacher understands my POV. Where she is a bit more "crunchy granola white hippie" than I'd usually ask for support from, she's very sweet and willing to work with me. Plus, my BS detector is bulletproof nowadays.

I’m also concerned about the all natural, oura ring, natural family planning only trend on tiktok. of course everyone should be able to do what’s best for them, and if that works for you, then great (though idt it’s as successful statistically as a contraceptive but whatever).
but on basically every video that is even tangentially related to birth control or reproductive health, I see endless comments about how hormonal birth control is bad and how you’re not yourself on hormones and how going off birth control is the only solution. I think it’s coinciding with a few trends, especially the new “health” trends that are intertwined with the tradwife stuff. Seeing this stuff constantly on there honestly makes me feel like a conspiracy theorist, but I think we need to be vigilant about people using scare tactics online for their own political gain.
also just want to add this to the online space since I usually only see health scare stuff (with the caveat that you should talk to your own dr but): my doctor told me that if I was having no problem on it, there’s no reason why I couldn’t be on the pill my whole life!
oh yeah, the wellness -> alt-right pipeline is very real! i think it was accelerated quite a bit by the anti-vaccine debate, and then even further by covid. i know a few people who were just crunchy yoga-enthusiasts or essential oil lovers pre-2020, then became the types who thought eating organic could keep you from getting sick, then became full-on terfs that believe only a return to traditional family life was the way to "right the ship."
like, reproductive health and access is extremely important. it has not been treated with the urgency that it should have (same with all medical research not focused around men). i understand why people are scared or skeptical. but damn!!!

Don’t know how much info/experience you have about this but is chiropractic medicine bullshit or real. I like listening to chiro vids for asmr but the youtube chiro people seem especially sketchy (they make youtube vids of women in yoga pants for clout of course they are lol)
total and absolute bullshit. if you want to scream, look up lawsuits and see how easy it is for one of these quacks to paralyze or otherwise maim you. the guy who invented chiropractic was completely batshit insane and believed in like. the healing power of magnets and was anti-vaccine back they first came out lol.
oh right. also he claimed that a ghost taught him how to do chiropractic.
As an active spiritist, D. D. Palmer said he "received chiropractic from the other world"[17] from a deceased medical physician named Dr. Jim Atkinson.[18]
everyone locally hated him so much that when his son struck him with his car during a parade no one cared.
anyway i understand the asmr aspect of the vids tho lol. i used to look up all kinds of reiki healing bullshit bc they have v regular soothing breathing. im easy to impress i guess lol

Get ready for Detroit's first dog park and bar. Barkside will open its doors on Saturday in Detroit's West Village on Kercheval St. and Van Dyke.
It's billed as the first spot in the Detroit area where unleashed dogs will be able to safely socialize while their guardians enjoy some drinks.
Barkside is membership-based and requires that all dogs be up-to-date on their vaccinations to enter.
It was founded by dog lovers David Oh and Cody Williams, and they said there will be a menu for dogs as well with different treats and even "dog beer."
The plan is for the bar to host special events including dog yoga, adoption events, puppy training, trivia, singles mingles and more.
There will be more than 3,000 square feet of indoor space and 7,000 square feet of the outdoor green space with seating for more than 100 guests and a place for dogs to play.
“We are both innately passionate about dogs,” Williams said. “Like many of us who love our dogs, we want to go out but often feel guilty leaving them at home. Visiting other dog bars around the country, we realized an urgent need for Barkside in Detroit. Not only are dog bars an exciting place for dogs to socialize, but it also allows like-minded people (animal lovers) a chance to gather and build a community. Our four-legged friends offer a great icebreaker to meet people and make new friends." ...

I know sometimes we like to use the turtles as an escape and so we dip into their world, but I like to have them dip into our world.
Let me know if anyone else has done this, so curious. But here's my
2020 QUARANTINE TURTLE HEADCANNONS
⚠️ TW for sensitive topics, death and protests from 2020
They didn't know if they were susceptible to the virus or not
They've caught colds before so it was possible
They upped their safety game a ton, especially with their old man around
Wearing gloves and masks they were all able to get vaccinated (and maybe swipe one for the old rat too)
They did reap the benefits of extreme masking
They went out more at least in cloaks and masks
They at least got to pretend to fit in, doing yoga in the park, outdoor painting classes in central park, birdwatching even and made some very good local friends
It was surreal to them to see the city streets so much quieter
So much emptier
Crime dropped, so the turtles too became more idle
Sometimes doing the same as the rest of us
doomscrolling on TikTok (esp Mikey)
learning to bake sourdough (Leo of course)
playing Animal Crossing (Raph surprisingly)
and buying NFTs (or moreso Donnie hacking and vandalizing them to get back at pretentious dudes trying to make a quick buck)
Mikey does own one NFT though
He refused to show anyone for months
Turned out it was an art piece he commissioned to look like an NFT of a rather comical and ugly characature of Leo
And this was their first time as teens coming to terms with such a reality
In the middle of that year, one event shook us all
George Floyd
Especially when all they had been taught was that cops were the good guys
The protests were surreal
Streets lined with standing or sitting, socially distancing, masked potestors
It was upsetting enough when they were loud, but heartbreaking when they were silent
Raphael especially was upset by what happened to George Floyd, he took it harder than most, his mind went to every person he knew in his big city that was just as innocent but just as easily victimized and the thought of this happening to any one of them scared him and angered him
He didn't know what to do but he had to do something
It was months of rage sparring with his brothers, escaping into Animal Crossing, and sobbing on rooftops with Splinter before he knew how to even start processing the tragedy
He ended up joining the protests, sitting with the people he shared so much grief and anger with, hoping to make a change
Leo became silent for a while, he needed time to process
He came to a conclusion, and at first, without the approval of Splinter he started patrols in the most heavy policed parts of the city, but looking for a whole new type of crime
It took a while to learn what he was looking for, and he was too late in some situations
This was the part where he sought Splinters wisdom
Splinter helped him to identify cops with the worst track records, and how to help those most in need, especially the kids
While a rather Raph move on his part, Leo's new version of vigilante-ism is fueled by having always thought he was similar to cops, fighting crime and leading by example
Leo is disgusted that they'd abuse their power for the cheapest power trips and with the cruelest consequences
Donnie, as part of his NFT hacking to gift money off assholes, used that money to donate to as many fundraisers as he could manage
Bail fundraisers for protesters
Medical fundraisers for every harmed in protests or additional incidents nationwide
He even managed to set up a foundation that automatically collected and donated accordingly, doubling the donated value through the same kind of investment and bank loopholes many mega corps utilize
It upsets Donnie, but he's been on the internet longest, the reality of racists and assholes was something he was keenly aware of
The only way he can sleep at night is knowing he's helped exceed multiple fundraisers because it's the only thing he feels he can do
Mikey appeared alright for a while, he tried to ignore it
But it ate away at him as his social media feed began turning to more and more discussions and awareness and responses and critical analysis
He couldn't escape it, at some point he broke
He stayed in bed for four days
He barely ate, barely drank, cried a lot
His brothers, with whatever energy they could muster tried to rally him or comfort him but nothing worked
Even Splinter struggled to get through
After four days Mikey got out of bed, but still mulled around for weeks in a daze
Eventually he ended up spending time with each of his brothers
handing out waters at protests and keeping innocent protestors out handcuffs when bad turned worse
Policing the police, watching out for kids after dark when policemen were in the area, letting the air out of tires and emptying cartridges
He edited social media videos and curated info accounts for fundraisers
All of this helped the brothers to keep moving forward, but the weight sat heavy in their hearts even as years passed and progress moved at a snails pace
It's 2024 and they still do what they can, and when tragedies happen they at least have each other to get through it
They look back painfully to the years they lived in rose colored glasses, sure they should have known, but they don't think it's an unreasonable dream to think that their city can fix what's broken and corrupt to achieve the idyllic world they used to believe in
Certainly this is a lesson they'll never forget and will continue to shape them
The new Foot Clan wears black boots and badges
Sorry for such a long post, but I think that it's important to address these things at least in my head cannons.
If you have nuance or constructive critiques I'd love to hear them. I'm not a POC but I was personally devastated by many many of the events of 2020.
As a queer person I have stood with and still stand with BLM and believe ACAB. I didn't live in NYC during that year but had friends who did and it broke the heart of the city.
If you hate that I've brought social issues into generally escapists TMNT spaces then you should probably block me or ignore any future head cannons with the appropriate trigger warnings on them.
Thank yall for your time. 💙💜🧡♥️

Our Greatest Treasure Dear readers, health is undoubtedly the most valuable resource we have. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), health is a state of physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. It involves a harmony between the various aspects of our lives.
1. Physical Health. Physical health refers to the optimal functioning of our bodies.
It includes:
Proper Nutrition: Eating nutritious and balanced meals provides the vitamins, minerals, and energy needed to stay active and healthy. For example, a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats helps prevent chronic diseases.
Regular Exercise: Consistent physical activity, such as walking, running, swimming, or yoga, helps maintain muscle strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health.
Sufficient Rest: Quality sleep is essential for the recovery and regeneration of the body. Adults need around 7-9 hours of sleep per night to function at their best.
Disease Prevention: Regular medical check-ups, vaccinations, and preventive screenings help detect and prevent health issues early.
2. Mental Health. Mental health is equally important. This includes:
Stress Management: Relaxation techniques like meditation, deep breathing, and hobbies can reduce stress and anxiety levels. Chronic stress can lead to health problems, so it's important to manage it effectively.
Managing Anxiety and Depression: Counseling and therapy may be necessary for those dealing with anxiety or depression. Seeking professional help when needed is crucial.
Emotional Well-being: Maintaining a positive and balanced mood contributes to a happier and more fulfilling life. Activities that bring joy and satisfaction, such as hobbies and spending time with loved ones, are essential.
3. Social Health. Social relationships and connections with others play a crucial role.
Emotional Support: Help and understanding from family and friends make it easier to overcome difficult times. Strong, trustworthy relationships are vital for mental and emotional health.
Interpersonal Relationships: Building and maintaining healthy relationships contribute to overall well-being. Effective communication and mutual respect are key elements.
Combating Isolation: Participating in social and community activities helps us feel connected and avoids feelings of loneliness. Volunteering, support groups, and social clubs are good ways to get involved.
4. Spiritual Health. Our connection to the Universe and Divinity can be nurtured through:
Prayer: Spiritual connection through prayer can offer peace of mind and a sense of belonging and purpose. Prayer can bring comfort and hope during difficult times.
Meditation: Practices of introspection and deep relaxation, such as meditation, help us focus the mind and calm the soul. Meditation can reduce stress and anxiety, improving overall well-being.
5. Homeostasis. Our body strives to maintain internal balance, called homeostasis.
Regulation of Internal Variables: Temperature, blood sugar levels, and chemical balance are constantly adjusted to keep us healthy. For instance, when our body overheats, it begins to sweat to reduce its temperature.
6. Influencing Factors. Health is influenced by a variety of factors:
Healthcare System: Access to medical services, health education, and disease prevention is essential. An efficient healthcare system ensures we receive necessary treatment on time.
Environmental Factors: Air quality, clean drinking water, living conditions, and exposure to toxic substances significantly impact health. For example, air pollution can cause respiratory problems.
Genetic Factors: Genetic predisposition can affect the likelihood of certain conditions. Knowing our family medical history can help prevent or better manage certain diseases.
Lifestyle: Diet, physical activity, sleep, and personal habits play a major role in maintaining health. For example, smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can negatively affect our health.
Health is not just the absence of disease but a holistic state of well-being where the body, mind, and social relationships blend harmoniously. It's important to care for all these dimensions to achieve optimal balance and enjoy a healthy, happy life.
Take care of yourselves and your loved ones because health is the key to a fulfilling life!

May Writing Challenge Day 2
Drabble Prompt #14: "Please tell me, this is not why you woke me up."
72 hours earlier…
Kimberly was snoring in her bed when the call came through. She jumped awake at the noise, squinting at the caller ID on her screen.
Emmy.
As soon as she pressed accept, her sister was talking. "Do you have all of your vaccines?"
"What?"
"And your passport? It's up to date?"
"Is this why you woke me up?"
"Please do not tell me you forgot," Emmy scolded.
Kimberly rubbed at her face. "No, of course not." Though she couldn't remember. Today was Thursday. She had work, and then she was going to her yoga lesson, but she knew there was something special…
