This a a reminder to not fall victim to the sunk-cost fallacy. Just because you invested time and energy into something, does not mean you should indefinitely waste more time and energy on it, if you decide it’s not what you want anymore. This goes for anything, from books, to relationships, to jobs, to hobbies, etc.
If it’s not serving you anymore, move on.

https://thedecisionlab.com/biases/commitment-bias
What is the Commitment Bias? Commitment bias, also known as the escalation of commitment, describes our tendency to remain committed to our past behaviors, particularly those exhibited publicly, even if they do not have desirable outcomes.
It's not only the wave of kids themselves who will require therapy and support for what was done to them, but also - and possibly even more so - the parents who got caught up in this hysteria and psychologically, and possibly medically, damaged their kids.
It's a classic parental tenet that "I would die for my child." But the cognitive walls necessary to actually deny and avoid admitting that you are the one who permanently damaged your own child must be the highest, thickest ones of all. And what happens when those finally come down?

Life is short.
If the movie is bad, walk out of the theater.
If the food is bad, send it back.
If the book is bad, DNF & return it.
If the fic is bad, close the tab.
If the song is bad, skip it.
If the show is bad, change the channel.
If the game is bad, turn it off.
Let go of the sunk cost fallacy and reclaim your time.

I asked my yoga teacher if she knew anyone who would do the reiki attunements and lessons for trades. I told her I'm a cult survivor, and I have a very specific reason for approaching it this way.
Because I don't intend on investing potentially a few thousand dollars for classes and permission to energy heal. I feel like the sunk-cost fallacy makes the practitioner more susceptible to tell themselves something is working - when it really isn't, and they can't accept such a massive loss.
Which isn't to say I don't think energy healing has it's benefits. I do. I also believe it has limits, and I believe in vaccines/antibiotics/therapy. The worst trying reiki or energy healing on someone who's suffering can do, is nothing. And the best it can do is be a part of their healing/coping toolbox.
I'm just not interested in putting myself in debt for something like this. And thankfully, my yoga teacher understands my POV. Where she is a bit more "crunchy granola white hippie" than I'd usually ask for support from, she's very sweet and willing to work with me. Plus, my BS detector is bulletproof nowadays.

I actually like the movie adaptation of THE MARTIAN a lot, but I think we as a society need to agree that the next time Matt Damon gets stuck somewhere inaccessible, we should just leave him there.

I think that one of the reasons that I like Stellar Firma so much is the ending.
David finally has the ability to fix everything wrong with Stellar Firma, but he doesn't.
He's absolutely 100% correct. There's too much wrong and he's just one clone. Better to start again.

So, sometimes I see that "if it sucks, hit da bricks" graphic and I think for a moment: "Who is this even for? Nobody actually forgets that you CAN leave bad situations, right? Like… that's just obvious. When people don't leave a bad situation it's because they know there'll be consequences. Quit your job and you have no money; drop out of school and your future could be fucked; leave a toxic relationship and you could be stranded with no support structure. Cops if you're quick, but if you're not quick enough then you get shot dead at worst, and hit with a resisting-arrest charge at best… Everyone knows this, right? Like, we don't need to be convinced that we CAN…. only that the benefit MIGHT, in some circumstances, be worth the consequences. Right?"
And other days I wake up on day two of a three-day con, and think, "dammit I wish I didn't have to go to any more days of this con, I did not enjoy the first day at all." And THEN the hit-da-bricks guy goes "WHAAAA? IT'S NOT LIKE YOU'RE TRAPPED, BESTIE, YOU LIVE WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF THIS CON, YOU ARE AT HOME AND THERE ARE A GAZILLION OTHER THINGS YOU COULD DO IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD IF YOU'D RATHER! SURE YOU PAID LIKE $60 FOR THE CON, BUT THIS IS A CHOICE BETWEEN 'YOU PAID $60 FOR 1 DAY YOU DIDN'T ENJOY' AND 'YOU PAID $60 FOR 3 DAYS YOU DIDN'T ENJOY' AND YOU KNOW PERFECTLY WELL WHICH OF THOSE THINGS IS BETTER"
and that's a hell of a brick to get hit with, and I take back everything I said before
