This is gonna sound rather conceited but I feel like it highlights an issue we have in Art.

I'm good at art. I've never had a hard time making art. I started using crayons before I could walk. Painting, Beadwork, sculpture, sketching, stippling, whatever- once I have a feel for the material, it doesn't take long to start doing what I want with it. It's been a common theme my whole life.

(Y contrast I'm awful at things like dancing, performance, sports, etc- in all things there is balance, right?)

Now, I've taught myself to use so many artistic mediums now that I KNOW how to most efficiently integrate them into the brain database. Once you really *understand* a material, it's much like memorizing the layout of your house, or flexing a muscle, or something in-between- it becomes PART of your brain in a way I cant quite articulate. But to get there involves just fucking around for a bit doing nothing in particular.

And I've found, especially in group settings, that nobody seems to be able to see you make something badly and leave you alone. Even if you say you're fine, you don't want help, you're happy, you're having fun, it's fine, they gotta ride your ass and hover.

I was at a class the other day for something I hadn't done before. The medium was one I've never used, so once the instructor told us the basics I started experimenting with weight, gravity, texture, viscosity, saturation, temperature, etc. The instructor had given enough info to know what was dangerous and what was safe, and beyond that I just wanted to absorb what I could about it.

And no insult to the instructor, but they kept checking in. Which was fine the first few times.

But then, without asking me what I was trying to do, started giving tips. That I told them I was grateful for but didn't really need just yet. If I had a question, I'd ask.

But they kept coming over. And touching my shit. And manipulating my project. And touching my hands. And using my tools. Without fucking asking.

And this happens every time. EVERY TIME. And by now I know the best way to get them to fuck off is to make something way beyond their expectations so they know I'm capable, then go back to doing what I want.

So I did. I wanted to keep having fun and learning, but instead I made something beautiful that I really didn't want to make, and wasted my time, and really didn't learn what I wanted to learn at all. I knew the formula to create a beautiful thing, so I followed that formula the same way I have a hundred times before, and didn't get to try anything spontaneous or ugly or exciting, just so I could be left alone.

And I know when I was a kid, I was aware aware people saw me puttering alone on something ugly assumed I had a special issue and treated me like I was stupid because of that. (I was neurodivergent.) And at at time I knew that I could do a neat trick for them like a trained pony and they'd go, "Oh, surely they aren't defective if they can do something like that!" And piss off.

But what if I hadn't known how to do that?

What if I hadn't been talented, or "special"?

What if I'd been just any other average kid trying to learn, and I couldn't pop something pretty out of my ass to get them off my back?

My problem my whole life has been that I haven't been allowed to make anything ugly in peace. I'm capable of beauty, so I have to make beauty, or get stepped on. And once people see what I can do, they get loud about it. "Look at this! Look what they did! We all know who the best is, don't we?". And that used to feel good, but it's tiring.

And how many people like me just wanted to play? Just wanted to have fun and experiment? Who were having fun with no goal in mind, or just took longer to learn, who gave up because of all the obnoxious helpers breathing down their neck with no way to shake them off?

How many of us are made to feel defective because we aren't doing things beautifully?

notes: im the younger sister of a girl who was born blind and mentally impaired, so i know the struggles of managing a family when people from the outside pity you for something that you can't control. i hope that anyone who's in a similar situation finds comfort in this fic.

The fans were in despair. Their favourite couple, their favourite mum and dad had just found out that their daughter — their first baby — was deaf.

Lando and Y/n weren’t worried though.

Lando walked into his daughter’s room, leaning against the door frame. She was playing the piano like she always does. How amazed of his daughter he was; she couldn’t hear yet she still practiced like no tomorrow.

Lando turned the lights on and off a couple of times before Lilly turned around. she smiled at her father,

“Does this sound right?” Lilly spoke. She was always a good speaker. Even after she became deaf, she relied on her vocal chords to do the work for her. Lando always knew that she would be amazing.

Lando pulled his hands out of his pockets, signing to her,

‘It sounds amazing, beautiful. I think you need to go up one note at the end, though.’

Lilly nodded, turned around and played the same tune again, adding in her father’s advice. Once she had finished, she turned around seeking her dad’s approval. Lando gave her a thumbs up before closing her door to where it previously was.

Out in the living room, Ash was crawling around on his play mat. He was picking up his toys, throwing them around and giggling to himself.

Y/n sat on the couch with the television on. She had a magazine in her hand and rollers in her hair. She had another month off of work so she had every right to spoil herself while she could.

Daizee — their dachshund cross jack russell (…george? 😟-) — was also watching the television. She diverted her attention to Ash every once in a while, being the big sister of the house. Their golden retriever, Charlie, was lying down with Ash and letting the baby play with his ears.

Lando sat down next to his wife, giving her a kiss on the cheek before pulling her into his side.

“How’s Lils?” Y/n looked up from her magazine to look at her husband before placing the book down.

Lando nodded, tracing small patterns on her biceps, “She’s doing good, playing the piano last time I checked.” At that, Y/n nodded before turning her attention to the television.

Speak of the devil, Lilly emerged from her room with a skip. That’s what Y/n and Lando loved to see. Even after given the news by the doctor when she turned three, she never let her condition bring her down.

She stopped in front of her mum and dad before doing a little dance and running off to grab a snack from the kitchen. Typical Lilly.

When she returned and sat down on the long end of the couch, she looked over to her parents to see if they needed her attention. As if she knew, Y/n signed to her daughter,

‘How are you feeling today my sweet?’

Lilly nodded, smiling her famous bright smile that even the sea of papaya loved.

“Good!” She answered before turning to watch the show playing on the big screen.

Lando and Y/n shared a look. A look of knowing, of pride. That was their daughter. The fighter that they created.

…And on the floor was Ash, climbing all over Charlie. That poor dog.

I think alot more people would enjoy the show if they learned to see Rhaenyra and Alicent as Unreliable Narrators, and characters who are supposed to have glaring flaws and weaknesses.

Mandatory preface- There are Issues™️ with season 2 that are its own other ask- but the complaints ive seen about character assassination on both women kind of tells me ppl just wanted to see the two just GirlBossing around, not being tragic characters trapped in their own circumstances.

For Alicent specifically- she just isn't written to be Cersei 2.0, and while it was really interesting to see motherhood from cersei's point of view, its already been done!! I actually prefer seeing Alicent's mercurial clinging to and abandoning motherhood- its interesting!! She was made a mother at what- 15? An age where you truly arent mentally developed enough to raise 3 kids, AND be a child bride, AND be a queen, (AND be a lesbian).

Alicent is interesting to me because she's stunted at 15 years old, she's an adult woman who talks to and sometimes bullies her kids as if they are her peers, and is obsessed with her childhood crush(es). She hasn't built any new relationships* past the ones she was entangled with as a teenager, she's obsessed with both acting out to make SOMEONE see that shes suffering, (she's honestly pretty blatant for someone who prides themselves on being the Temperate Voice of Reason) but also to erase herself and reset to before she had to marry the king, before aemma died.

I think most of her 'bad out of character' decisions are just these two impulses winning out, her trying to force a reset, go back to a time where none of this had happened yet, when things were simpler and she had love and every day wasn't the worst day of her life™️.

She sleeps with cole, the man she thought was pretty at 15 (her last uncomplicated attraction just before it all went wrong and aemma died) -she doesnt seem to like it that much, but she does seem compelled to seek him out, esp when upset- shes obsessed with, and desperate to reconnect with Rhaenyra, her childhood best friend (and first love) and get back to where they were as kids, AND she still treats and asks her father for absolution as if he's still the only authority that matters to her just like she did at 15. Alot of her 'victim complex/bewildered they took it so far' behaviour in the plotting of rhaenyra's usurption reads to me like a teenager in over her head, she talked big game and now its real and shes panicking!! She's tragic BECAUSE she's still a teenager- so stunted shes unable to meaningfully grow up and learn to make healthier choices for herself, or move on and stop trying to grasp at the 'if i could just go back' urge.

As a mother, I think this creates an interesting dynamic as well, and I do like that in the casting even, she seems closer in age to her kids than rhaenyra does to hers. I think the contrast ppl are drawing with Alicent Protecting Her Kids in season1 compared to her giving them up in season two isn't bad writing to me, just massive differences in context. Sure she protected Aemond in driftmark, but we cant ignore that she probably felt humiliated by her husband choosing rhaenyra's side over hers in front of everyone, did it seem like a grown woman fighting for her son?? or a teenager furious with her ex winning one over her again? or both!! both sides twisted together is still interesting! When she protected Aegon from Rhaenys, is stepping in front of her son the king to protect him from the enemies dragon fire not the most romantic daydream of a deserving death a child bride could come up with?? Was it the impulse to protect the son she couldnt decide if she loved or hated, or was it to have the most heroic death possible to escape the reality that she sees coming. And if Rhaenyra hears about how Brave she was in the face of a dragons maw, and cries about it forever and feels sooo bad and regrets it til the day she dies, thats an added bonus. I think Alicent loves her kids, but is teenager selfish about HOW she loves and protects her kids, and is unable to be a mature, consistant, protective mother to them when she also sees them as having ruined her life. I think in season 2 when she 'gives them up' shes relieved, and once again following the compulsion of 'if i reset to when Rhaenyra was heir, i had no sons, and i wasn't married or queen, everything will be better'. I think theres complexity to it, i think she does love her sons and feels insane about it, but I think Alicent has been trying to Go Back in more and more Intense ways ever since she got married, and we might be giving her sanity more credit than it deserves when it comes to the need to wipe the board clean and go back to being 15.

You've always been a good student, and some of the others called you teacher's pet, but as long as you were learning more you didn't care.

You think it comes from your need to people-please... Ever since you had started working on your psych major it's become more and more difficult to stop yourself from overanalyzing even more than usual.

The most recent class changed everything though, the study of hypnosis has always seemed fascinating, but at the same time inaccessible. There's just so much incorrect information and misrepresentation of hypnosis out there! Taking a class that focused solely on it seemed at first a bit much, but it's definitely helped your stress. It's quickly become your favorite course...

And the professor!! She clearly has such a passion for her subject, and you make sure to show in class how attentive you are. If other students think you're a teacher's pet, you might as well live up to the title. Plus, she's absolutely gorgeous! And her voice can only be described as the feeling of being completely surrounded by warm honey, in sound form. You can't help but feel a flutter deep in your chest whenever she calls on you to give your thoughts... on the current discussion.

About half-way through the semester, you work up the courage to approach her after class to see if she has any outside resources she can point you to. The course is amazing, you tell her, but you feel like a practical example of the application of hypnosis would help you delve deeper and deeper into the material!

For a moment you think you catch a chuckle(?) But this is just a typical request... oh well, it's hard to focus while you look at her anyway! She replies in her silky, smooth, relaxing voice:

"Oh dear, I've been wondering when you would ask! You're my favorite student, of course you deserve some one-on-one training~"

For some reason, what she said seems... off? Somehow? But you can't grasp why... you're her favorite student, that makes sense... but wait, training??

"Relax~"

A thick wave washes over your brain as your train of thought is completely derailed and you're lost in the honey.

"There's nothing to worry about, this is completely normal. I know better than you, right?~"

You nod without realizing

"Good girl! Then let's get started."

She takes you by the hand and leads you to her office, because walking is hard on your own. When you get there, she shuts and locks the door behind you.

"Sit~"

You sit down, seemingly pulled downward by some invisible force.

She laughs, "Oh just look at you! This is going to be even more fun than I thought. Now, as for your request, what better way to understand hypnosis than to be the subject of it yourself? I understand some of the other students call you teacher's pet... and I want to help you fill that role even better! Wouldn't that just be wonderful?~"

The words practically fall out of your mouth, "Yes, ma'am"

"Gooood pet~

Normally, this process would take ages, but you've been listening to all of the extra-credit, haven't you? You don't need you answer, I know you have. That's why you're my favorite~"

You let out an absent-minded whine, impossibly willing to do whatever your new owner instructs of you.

She pulls out a collar and leash, and for some reason you yearn for them.

"The main point of the extra-credit was to create two separate triggers; one with a collar, and another with a leash. When I snap this collar around your neck, your sense of identity will be exclusively that of a pet. When I attach the leash, my words will replace your thoughts. What I want from you will become what you want to do~"

You cant understand her words, yet the anticipation as she walks around to the front of her desk is nearly unbearable, and you are practically shaking from the excitement.

"Still."

You freeze immediately. This command seemed more forceful than the others somehow, but you don't have time to consider it any further before-

Snap- and the collar is around your neck.

Any worries or thoughts you had lurking in your subconscious are dispersed immediately as the bliss of emptiness somehow becomes even more encapsulating.

"Much better, pup~"

Your owner's voice makes you wag your imaginary tail. She's praising you! The satisfaction is overwhelming, but this is interrupted by a-

Click- and there's your leash.

"Down~" You're on your knees

one thing that continues to plague my thoughts about AI “art” is how quickly non-artists accept it as some form of expression. It’s a reflection of the societal norm that art is wholly unnecessary unless created for maximum profit gain, yet techbros FLOCK to the idea of a computer generating an entirely “new” image, a Frankenstein mimicry pulled from pre-existing works uploaded to the internet by actual people, based off of a few key words they feed into the program. They call it revolutionary. They call it accessible. They call it groundbreaking. Art has always been accessible. Everyone has had the proper tools to become an artist since birth, no matter what background one might have come from. Non-artists crave a sense of accomplishment, of creating something big, of being the cause of something downright spectacular. But art is hard. No one has the time to pour into an activity and build upon a skillset that takes years to even get a handle on. Art takes a certain amount of discipline, and people don’t like that. The fruits of their creative labor cannot be seen as quickly as they want, and in an industry that pushes the pursuit of greater profit with the least amount of time and effort put in, art just cant catch up.

AI “art” will not satisfy you. It will not make you look smart. It is not groundbreaking. That hole in your chest that craves that creative outlet, that needs that gratification--it will never be filled with AI. Those images your machine is vomiting will never amount to anything and you will never be an artist. Because being an artist requires discipline, passion, and most of all: emotional connection. Being an artist requires you putting a part of yourself into your craft, and doing it for the purpose of passion and not monetary gain. Being an artist requires work, and loving that work. AI cannot, and will never produce art

I just finished writing an assignment with a deadline of today, so im gonna reward myself by writing smut.

You had been made a supe the same way any supe had been created, but the moment you developed your telekinesis and telepathy, you had known a lot more than people thought. You had kept your telepathy a secret for many years, not wanting people to know you could read their thoughts just yet, as it allowed you to gather secrets and ways to survive in this fictional world that Vought had set up. When you became 18 you removed the tracking chip from your body using telekinesis and decided to leave. Your parents, the people who had been paid by Vought to make you superhuman, tried to make you stay, but you revealed how you knew all their secrets and how they never truly loved you. And using your knowledge you blackmailed them into leaving you alone for a while.

They of course went to Vought with the new information, fearing what you would do with all the knowledge you had. In the beginning they sent representatives from Vought to try and convince you to work with them, or to threaten you, but they had no idea how powerful you truly were. You had always been extremely smart thanks to your telepathy, so you kept the true extent of your powers a secret. They believed you could control fire, water, and even make yourself fly. But when you tore apart one of their more violent representatives, reducing them to mere atoms, they finally realized just how much of a threat you could be.

For many years they left you alone for the most part, though they would sent a representative every now and then, even sending other supes or a few times sending Black Noir. When you were in your 20s you met Stan Edgar for the first time, and again they must have underestimated your powers, as he didn’t seem as on edge as others had been. After talking with him for a bit you realized they thought you could only see and hear what they were thinking about at the moment, but in reality you could dig deep into their memories and gather all the information you wanted. So, when Edgar tried to subtly threaten you to join Vought, you dumped some of his most well-kept secrets out in the open, making it clear you’d keep the info you knew to yourself as long as they left you alone.

As the years pass Vought leaves you mostly to yourself, though they do keep an eye on you but never interact with you. But over time your powers have grown even more, so you’re able to gather information about everyone around you, you’re even able to read the thoughts and memories of people on the other side of the planet. Your telekinesis has pretty much made you invulnerable and unbeatable, but you could care less about the game that is superheroes and supervillains, so you much prefer a normal life.

When things with the seven start to go down, Edgar must have become desperate as multiple members die or are taken off the team for some reason. The unstable standing of Vought makes him decide to try and make you work for him again, knowing how useful your telepathy could be when it came to dealing with other people. But when you don’t even read the letter he sends you and instead light it on fire with your telekinesis, Edgar decides that if you wont work for Vought you cant be allowed to exist as you pose a threat to them.

Vought ends up sending Homelander your way, having filled his head with different stories of why you need to be gotten rid of and how much of a threat you pose to Vought and his own popularity. Over all these years you had worked mostly normal jobs, and for the past few years you had worked in an office building as a medium ranked worker. You were good at your job, and if you used your powers to make it a less toxic work place, no one could blame you.

You had just returned home from work, still wearing your suit and carrying your work suitcase, when Homelander landed in your yard. Luckily you lived in a more isolated area, so no one saw the number one hero land as if he owned the place, his hands on his hips and his red glowing eyes glaring in your direction. It didn’t make more than a glance to know why he was there, a sigh working past your lips as you reach up and rub your temple since you had planned on just spending the evening relaxing, maybe catching up on a show you had been putting off.

Homelander could only watch in confusion as you held up your hand in a wait here motion, opening your front door to place your suitcase down inside, working off your jacket to place it inside before closing the door again. Rolling your shoulder you barely gave John time to react before he found himself flying through the air, unable to keep up with your speed and overpowering strength.

John had never been overpowered before, so he did all he could to try and hit you. But even when his fists or lasers hit you it left no damage, which only worked to enrage and humiliate the blonde even more. As if you were finally done with indulging him, you used your telekinesis to throw him to the ground, binding his arms to his body and making it impossible for him to move.

It was when you landed beside him that you really looked at him, having mostly tuned out his thoughts during the whole fight. But it was seeing him laying there, trying in vain to wriggle free from your hold, his hair ruffled and eyes shiny with tears, that you let your telepathy brush against his thoughts with more purpose.

The influx of humiliation and lust was a surprise whilst it also really wasn’t, and you could help but smirk and chuckle, causing Homelanders eyes to flash red as he felt enraged at your laughter. The two of you were in the middle of nowhere, so no one saw you pull John to his knees, using his blonde hair as a grip to pull you whichever way you pleased. It was clear just how touch starved the supe was, as he almost seemed to arch into your hand, his eyes fluttering as he felt the flash of pain in his scalp.

John couldn’t help but buck his hips at the burning humiliation, his eyes growing even more teary as he glanced up at your passive expression, as if he wasn’t anything special kneeling between your knees the way he was. There was something so good about being overpowered, it was something Homelander had always craved but had never been able to be given since he had always been the strongest. But here he was, his arms bound behind his back with a power he couldn’t even see, aching hard between his thighs as he almost shivered in anticipation.

The power of Homelanders want washed over you like a tidal wave, making twinges of heat gather in your abdomen, making your length harden up little by little. After your public execution Teyvat celebrates your death and create a holiday to celebrate the death of the imposter.

A few days go by with nothing strange happening, until it does.

Everytime when people sleep, they hear the quite tears from you, and feel your sadness and pain.

Archons who don’t need sleep, are now fainting at midnight and reliving their trauma again, and again, and again. Only that it gets worse.

Hillichruls and The Abyss Order seem to attack and kill any human in sight, as they wail out in anger and sadness.

Teyvat itself begins to rip itself apart, disgusted at the actions committed by your worshipers. Not wishing to house ‘Monsters’ who killed the being whom created them and just wished to walk among them and be loved.

Everyone is confused and scared, when humans sleep, they hear your cry’s, beings that don’t usually need to sleep are now forced to sleep and relive their trauma but it gets worse everytime. When it’s daytime they need to protect themselves from never ending attacks from Nature and Hilichruls/Abyss Order. Along with that they FEEL your eternal sadness and bear your eternal wrath.

Even those who believed you ARE the creator can’t escape your blind wrath and sadness, but they don’t blame you, the people have brought this upon themselves.

They all then learn that you truly WERE the creator. Fearful, Desperate, and Saddened by their actions and the discovered truth, they pray to your statue harder, begging for forgiveness. But the statues are destroyed, either by Lighting, Earthquakes, Meteors, Falling Buildings, or any other natural disasters.

They lost hope, you cant EVER forgive them, once all the statues are destroyed they hear your voice “I just wanted to be among you. Why… why did you hate me!!!? I LOVED YOU ALL, FOR ALL YOUR TROUBLES, FOR ALL YOUR TRUMA I LOVED YOU!!!! and you repay me… by KILLING ME!!!!!”

The ones who believed you and helped you got a different message “You… you were one of the few who helped me.. thank you, but I still died. I will reward you with a painless death”

They all then fall to the ground, Teyvat roars by releasing a massive earthquake, The Hilichruls roar like a tiger and begin mutilating humans, The Abyss Order are angered and begin to destroy the world.

And your followers? Their distraught, they don’t even fight back at whatever happens. They now forever FEEL your sadness, pain, isolation, after feeling the joy and excitement you felt when you descended, they now just cry forever, they can’t do anything but accept it.

They chant apologies to you, but it falls on deaf ears, they slam their hands together and make a fist, pleading to you as blood drips from their hands and it turns pale, but YOU refuse to accept these.

No one is spared, in your blind anger everyone is to blame, Men, Women, Children. They ALL won’t die, oh no, they’ll LIVE forever and they will only feel YOUR pain YOUR sadness and relive any Truama they may have, or any insecurities they have will be exploited.

This is not the wrath of the creator. This is simply the creators, Sadness and Pain, that was brought upon him by the followers who devoted their entire existence to him, THIS IS THEIR DESTINY.

As more women decide to not have children or reproduce, a popular talking point is that maIes will rape and kill us all for refusing them. For starters, this says it all about how everyone is fully aware of maIe evil & female oppression. If it was a tiny minority of maIes that are abusive as many pretend, then this wouldn't be the kneejerk response. The idea that maIes will protect us or not hurt us if we comply is a trap. They will hurt women & girls no matter what we do. This is said to shift the blame of their actions from them to women.

One crucial thing to understand is that maIes already mass rape and kill women & girls even when women partner + reproduce with them. Subconsciously we know this given the measures we take to navigate this world. Most times women are killed it's by maIes they know, in many cases it occurs when women want to leave or have left but it also occurs when women are in relationships because if maIes cant find a reason to hurt women they'll create one. They'll accuse women of cheating, bc food wasnt cooked properly, bc she got pregnant, etc. Speaking of which, murder is one of the leading causes of death for pregnant women & its typically done by their partner. MaIes rape women just after they've given birth. It can take months to years for womens bodies to heal but doctors say "6 weeks" as its unexpected that maIes will "wait" longer than that. So obeying doesnt stop maIe violence, it's just an excuse to justify their terrorism. There is no reforming the system nor is there getting by peacefully so long as we do what maIes want because their intention is destruction no matter what. MaIes lied & claimed women will be protected but it's slavery. MaIes dont protect women and neither does the system so dont buy their threat.

There are several cases where maIes have raped & killed women despite having a partner and children. Wayne couzens had a wife & kids yet still raped & killed Sarah Everard, lewis haines killed Lily Sullivan despite having a wife and child. The toybox killer, and ted bundy had partners yet they still raped & killed other women. Many maIes who rape prostituted women have wives & kids at home. This takes me to my next point: terrorists are never content. It doesnt matter how much you give bc all they want to do is take. They want to constantly reaffirm their beliefs, security, and entitlement to the world so they'll keep causing havoc no matter how much you obey. There's a reason why developed nations do not pay ransoms nor do they negotiate with terrorists in many cases because when you give into these peoples demands they do not go away. It may keep them at bay for a bit but they will only return with bigger demands and will be willing to cause more harm and damage. The same thing applies to maIes & their terrorism. Giving in wont stop their violence or change them. At first short term they're kept at bay (if theres other women they abuse in their vicinity) but long term it wont work. Women have loved, served, fucked, provided labour, reproduced with, and birthed maIes for millenias. Women have given everything to maIes and what did they get in return? More violence, more demands, more destruction we're all familiar with this. No amount of submission has changed maIes for the better.

What's actually dangerous is women trusting + living around maIes, we're expected to just rely on how they wont hurt women but believe me maIes gain a power trip from the strength differences between the sexes. Even if they dont actively hurt women, the threat lingering in the air alone is a power they enjoy. So dont be paralysed with fear or think our refusal to interact with maIes is a cause for their violence. I wont deny that it's scary but this isn't just about us. It's about the future, the world our offspring are coming to. Assuming maIes get everything they want, it'll never be enough they'll keep plundering for more so at some point we need to put our foot down regardless of the cost.

I want to conclude this by recommending reading this post. The key point is

Opting out is for the select few who want to do nothing with heterosexual nonsense even if the price of doing so is death because partaking in their drivel is death, physical and spiritual, and if they really did care about distancing themselves from it all that much they would know that death is the least you will be willing to put up with.

I've noticed that most women who bring up the possibility of maIe retaliation are still seeking relationships with maIes in their lives so this seems more like another excuse in the end. The concern for maIe retaliation is real, especially among newer separatists, 4B, wgtow etc but the seasoned ones realise it doesnt matter and if deəth is what it takes to not be associated with maIes and their systems then so be it. Hell even the average woman would take another option or death if they were pre-faced with a situation where they have to be around maIes but there's no other woman to occupy them. if i can be corny for a second i wanna talk about the greatest strengths of the 2003 tmnt series and why it speaks to me (esp as a queer person)

so i might have alluded to this before, but let me say it outright: each show is definitely a product of its time, and the ideals of whatever generation its from. whether talking about the humour, the story, the dialogue etc, its always important to remember that these shows will always come off in a way due to the generation theyre from. and thats not a bad thing! it just means its important to think about them from that perspective.

2003 is a show of my generation growing up, and a thing about that era that maybe some people younger than me wont understand is there is so much more language commonly available to describe yourself now than there was then. you can take this in any context; mental health, sexuality, gender identity, or even just the ability to describe your relationships with more (idk if this will be the right word) therapist language.

in 03 we have a family unit of splinter and his sons, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. we have a splinter who hasnt opened up to his sons about the trauma hes experienced, but not in a way of shutting them out, simply because it isnt their responsibility to know as they are teenagers. he tells them of the mutagen that created them, but not of his past with his master yoshi, who he calls father when by himself, but never around his sons which is just an interesting concept to think about.

(i do not intent this next sentence as ragging on the two shows after this when i say it, simply from a character standpoint) this is the splinter who completely doesnt make his problems his sons problems, but he also is very willing to tell them the truth when he knows they're ready. this is is the most idyllic version of splitner out of all of them, even when comparing to his mirage counterpart (who hes the most based on) due to that splinter raising them to be ninja specifically to make them fight shredder. this one is just their father who loves them and wants to keep them safe the best way he can, and he was never a human in the first place to even know how to be that. so this whole family dynamic starts with him, and the way he raised his sons reflects his parenting.

so, the setting and year this show is made is 2003. something very relatable here is how there isnt a lot of language for the personality quirks of the turtles. there's so much evidence here for mikey having adhd, his brothers will say things like "why doesnt mikey have to help?" and the answer is "well, he'd be bored. and whats worse, mikey not helping or mikey being bored?" its this beautiful moment of, "hey, we know its not fair, but thats how mikey is, and its better for everyone if we just respect that thats how he is" mikey cant keep his hands off stuff, they know this they dont yell at him for behaving that way, they just stop him. this coding feels the most specific, but like i said. its 2003. we dont have the words to describe what this is yet, and if we do its not common knowledge.

another example is in the classic episode where raphael meets casey jones. raphael is sparring with mikey, and he lashes out and nearly kills mikey. everyone reacts to this by getting him to stop, and no one is more upset than raphael himself. they all tell him to go get some air, which he does. theres no moment of any of them screaming at him for losing his temper, its very clear that they all know he's going to do that himself. and he does go get some air. they all know thats what he needs. he goes and meets casey jones, another hot head, and raph has to help coach this hot head on his anger. when he comes back at the end of the episode after having let out that aggression, he apologizes and no one is upset with him. there's a very clear understanding among his family that he cannot help it, but the best thing they can do is give him his space when he needs it. watching this from a 2023 perspective (20 years later) im sure we could analyze this as a few things going on with raph, my mind comes to autism but at the end of the day it doesnt matter why he behaves like this, the point is that he does and the best thing his family does is just...help him. which they do. and they never hold it against him.

when leo is going through his ptsd arc hes at his closest to raph as a character, the show draws a lot of parallels (like having him go let out some aggression with casey) and we get to see the dynamic in reverse. in "i, monster" (the rat king episode) leo is losing it, taking on rat king alone and not wanting to let up. raphael is actively holding his brothers back when they say "we shouldnt leave him to fight alone", raphael says "if leo gets in trouble i'm the first one in there, but right now it looks like leo's got more than one monster to work out of his system" raph doesn't exactly know what leos going through, but he recognizes it. he knows he needs to fight alone, so raph lets him. its only when the building collapses and leo is no longer in a safe position that he says "leo lets go", which leo wordlessly agrees with and actually listens.

this is what i think is the best part of these guys, the unconditional understanding they have for the way they are. we still have our "raphs a big hot head" "mikeys annoying" jokes, but they feel like genuine good natured sibling ribbing because they know each other on that level.

and to go back to the fact that this show is set in 2003, there's something so specific about the way mikey constantly makes references to liking women's clothing, to being fine with feminine language, and to being open about being the pretty turtle who "has that effect on minds of men" speaks to me as a queer person. this could easily be intended as homophobic jokes and probably is, because again.... its the mid 2000s, thats very much what media was like, thats what the jokes were. especially with the girly screams mikey does being one of the first jokes of this nature.

but theres something that happens in season 4, where an alien is attacking mikey, and donnie rushes in and says "hey, thats my sibling" that sticks out. and it happens again in fast forward. when talking to the dark turtles leo says "you and your brothers" "me and my siblings"

because of the way this family unit just understands each other without ever having a conversation about things, it feels like its not a joke. theres some kind of affirmation happening here. even if it seems like i could be reading into it too much, its specific! and it keeps happening!

and by the end of the show, when mikey says he wants to be maid of honour, even if that line in the media itself was intended to be a joke, no one in their family treats it like one. of course mikey is the maid of honour, he asked to be one! the only real offence taken is when april says bride's maid, to which he is offended because hes so much more important than that!

so from a story standpoint, this show doesnt have the intricate complexities and butting heads of latter iterations, there isnt much relationship growth to be had (in fact once we get to around season 5 the flanderization of the characters kind of begins and it loses some of the more complexities) but thats because its just not the focus of the story! the story is more about what they go through together, and thats fine! thats what our shows kind of were at the time. not saying there isnt any relationship growth, but its very much not the focus because these turtles? they already understand each other in a healthy way.

so to me, these guys are kind of the most wholesome family unit
