Obsessed with the way Cecil can't fucking talk to people on their level. His intimidation tactics and silver tongue work really well for the most part and carry him throughout his career. But in the case of Mark where he starts interrogating him, Cecil takes it way too far and antagonizes the boy. What Mark probably needed in that case was to be talked to as a equal or explained the situation a little more calmly (and maybe don't bring up a recent traumatizing event, Cecil-)

Cecil goes for Mark's throat during the whole conversation, so it's no surprise when Mark returns the favor in a more literal manner

And in the end they both lowkey lost. Cecil gave away a powerful trump card and Mark lost a support group

That's something that's been bothering me ever since I came into this fandom and found out there was a huge debacle over the whole "bad Darkling" thing. If he really was that incredible manipulator and grooming figure all the antis claim him to be, Alina would NEVER have believed Baghra so easily, Alina would think that old hag was crazy!

tell you what tho if there's one thing about this episode that nails it for me, it's exactly that sense of having someone's number. there's the way that juno used that phrase himself obv, but like The Thing Is that Juno's been able to see right through him from literally day one. both that he wasn't who he said he was but also that there was enough of something real to get hung up on and haunted by the thought of him for all that time after. and how the most frustrating part of Train From Nowhere is that so much of the real Peter Nureyev is so close to the surface, practically begging Juno to See Him again, and Juno's too wrapped up in his own insecurities and unwillingness to look.

heeheehoohoo and now the turns have tabled and it's like. oh he's trying to do the stone cold haughty thing that lasted all of twenty-four goddamn hours in Man In Glass and now this is after they've had a whole year together. like ofcourse he's physically incapable of saying those words without idk blacking the fuck out or something (which. -->As Harvestfest started in earnest! And, as Victor was already in the greenhouse, I had him kick off the celebrations by offering a pie to one of the happy standing gnomes in the corner by the front door!

The gnome was immediately like “Fuck you and fuck your pie.” XD Poor Victor pleaded for forgiveness, but only got a nasty shock for his efforts. I had him flee the greenhouse in favor of upgrading the dryer in the laundry nook by the stairs to ALSO be “Whisper Quiet” while Smiler busied themselves putting up some holiday-appropriate banners and bunting with the decoration box (not that anyone could really see any of it, given the miserable weather they were having, but it's the thought – and tradition – that counts). By the time they were done, all the gnomes had teleported to the living room to gather around the TV, so I had Smiler approach the “Guardian of the Gnomelaxy” alien gnome and offer it a future cube. It accepted happily, so I decided to have Smiler try pleading for forgiveness from the upset pie gnome –

Aaaand they got electrocuted too. Damn – and they’re the charismatic one! I had them flee back to the first floor hallway, where they hung out with Victor while he finished his upgrades, while Alice (after a quick bathroom break) came down to offer some coffee to one of the pool floatie gnomes. This was also accepted, so SHE tried her luck on the angry pie gnome, begging for mercy –

Aaaand got shocked (which unfortunately I didn’t get a proper picture of). This gnome was just NOT having it! All I could be grateful for was the fact that the happy gnomes seemed to be fixing the TV as much as he kept breaking it!

-->With the gnomes mostly appeased, and the thunderstorm having settled down and become a less-dangerous rain, I had Alice recover from her electrocution by listening to some classical music to fulfill a want while Smiler briefly went out and raked some leaves – and I mean VERY briefly, because I quickly decided they shouldn’t be raking them in the rain, that made no sense. And besides, they wanted to give Victor a hug, which I liked a lot more. Unfortunately, the original interaction ended up timing out by the time Victor was finished with the dryer upgrades – fortunately, this allowed me to make them embrace more romantically. :) And then I had Alice come in and give Victor a cuddle from behind, while Smiler looked on with interest. XD I love when I can do a little OT3 moment with them…

-->Anyway – with Necessary Romance done, I had Alice go back upstairs and finish her book while Victor appreciated the classical music from the living room phonograph before heading down into the basement to experiment with his cauldron and Smiler went upstairs to listen to some New Age tunes and do some yoga in their room. Mostly because I’d switched them over to the Inner Peace aspiration and the former would help them find peaceful surroundings. (Which reminds me, I gotta send them to that spa I built at some point…) Alice finished her book quicker than I anticipated, so I had her take advantage of the break in the weather to clean out the chicken coop and the cow pen – which took a bit longer than anticipated because she started cleaning up all the stinky leaf piles on the lot too, and her first attempt ended a T-pose and her dropping some random garbage on the ground. *shrug* Anyway, I put the garbage in the can for her and had her feed Toothy (who had the old cake tongue out) before sending her to muck out the cow pen – this she did successfully, AND managed to clean up more stinky leaf piles, this time without any T-posing. Yay! It’s nice to see the lot looking a lot cleaner, that’s for sure.

also if only the physical copy of how to disappear completely & never be found i first encountered & read a few years ago (sort of [roughly avg age ten] reader book, not any similarly titled How To) hadn't disappeared completely & not been found since, probably b/c i put it somewhere i intended to be For Safekeeping, which is also how my binder vanished....b/c it's one of those like. those book for late elementary/middle school readers when they just weave in this unrealism which makes for a delightful range & unpredicability? and with a cynical protagonist girl like off to the races like wow her mom is depressed asf & smoking? and it's about A Family History Secrets Mystery so blatantly a haunting that the inciting incident is basically introducing a haunted [family history secrets mystery] house. and spoilers don't matter like it's stemming from there being this missing uncle who grew up so in contrast to the Winsome Winning Sibling Who Does It All Right while seeing his own affiliation with rats that he tried to disappear completely & never be found which led to this Tragedy which led to this more unintended disappearance of his & he haunts this house & wants to be left alone & only goes out at night with this [ambiguous Is That A Giant Rat Or Weird Small Dog (protagonist affected by these family situations who expresses her preoccupation with an awareness of how fate can Strike and Get you with this interest with roving packs of killer chihuahuas. people think she's weird though she spontaneously befriends this other girl struck with this bolt from the blue & a bit weird / outcast & then Insightful who i wish was in it more)] & plays into the hauntedness danger like playing into the [something's Wrong with you then] until having to take yet more action where the urge to express the truth comes out more both b/c living that hidden is more threatened but also b/c now the niece children are more threatened as well. ft. a sort of preternatural blurring of time b/c of only being communicated with through this uncle via his comic pages (that he paints?) of dubiously accurate translations of irl events that are created so quickly it seems to verge on foresight, imagine like "hmm what's this painting. it's me standing in this room looking at this painting??? as someone ominous lurks in the shadows right behind me?" in both [now how could you know this & paint it really fast ahead of time] and [horror]
