Quality of gidles music has declined pretty badly, IVEs last comeback was FINE, staycs latest album was BAD truly, everglows last title track divided the fandom, le sserafim are controversial and hated, itzy kind of fell off still have some loyal fans but lowkey their real last hit was in like 2020. In conclusion aespa are truly 4th gen leaders. Boy groups I dont care about you
#its still between ive and aespa for me#ives discography is still pretty much flawless though heya was sort of underwhelming but still okay#im not gonna judge them too hard for one comeback that was still pretty good i mean accendio also#not to make it into a competition and pit girl groups against each other#but also yes because kpop has kind sucked lately is it just me#and i like and listen to all of these groups#other than their last cb (wtf was that) i love stayc but they havent truly slayed since 2022#theyre kind of losing their quality as well i feel#also about everglow#i kind of like zombie but i understand why people are disappointed#i mean they should barely be counted for this since they dont have a lot of music#but anyway#yes

yall I want TDS3 tickets so badly 😭 but I don't know who to even go with and I'm not going by myself.... but I'm also seriously thinking I'm just gonna go ahead and try to get tickets on friday anyway
#last year i went with my mom and she enjoyed it#but im not entirely sure she wants to go again#and then my best friend doesn't like kpop at all lmao#but I don't know i might be able to get her to go w me but#i dont know how she'll feel about the traveling in chicago by ourselves thing#bc when we last went there together for a concert we were with her ex and he did the driving#so my last option is my brother lol because i asked the other day if he wants to go to chicago#and he did say yes so i told him attendance at the concert is mandatory#kpop is also absolutely not his genre of music#even though he listens to a little bit of a lot of stuff like country and pop and broadway musicals#like dude you'd love the theatrics of kpop and the gaybaiting they do? thats something he might like#and then one of my choices was my moms best friend bc she said after she saw my moms videos of tds2#that she wanted to go see a kpop concert because she loves showmanship so she saw the eras tour and#fell in love so i think she would like kpop. she loved the wrist light things TS did so lightsticks are definitely#something she'd enjoy and the choreography#i really think it's just the language barrier that's preventing my brother and best friend from wanting to go#and the language barrier that keeps my mom and her best friend from probably enjoying the music as much#because my mom loved one direction so a kpop boyband isn't too far off from that#oh also i think my friend will tell me no because i've already turned her down for plans like a week or two before that#because i won't have PTO to use at work because i'll have just gotten back from a vacay that uses i all#and then i'm gonna turn around and take 2 days off for a concert (travel time sucks)

You sent me an ask so I shall return the favor! What is the most recent Kpop group you’ve gotten into and how did you find out about them? I always love hearing fan “origin stories” lol
Thank you for returning the favor~ That would be The Boyz 🥰💖 I love hearing fan "origin stories" too hehe (This is gonna get long I love them sm)
Anyways I've known about them since debut? I loved Bloom Bloom Pow with my whole heart when it came out and tried to fall for them then- It didn't work. The next time was when The Stealer (TS) came out~ I had watched them perform for Road to Kingdom- because ptg was on the show too- But I really loved TS cb- sm so that I bought the album about 6 mos later with my favorite members as inclusions at the time (Eric, Kevin and Hyunjae). But nothing came about of it even after watching the weekly idol episodes... Then came Whisper era and I ended up biasing Changmin (Q) and loving that song but again nothing came out of it.
(A little backstory is that Changkyun (I.M) got me into Dominic Fike's music-) Thus, when tiktok showed me Juyeon, Changmin, and Sunwoo dancing to Babydoll earlier this year as a dance cover: I fell. And then I finally checked out Watch It~ But Hui had his solo and it distracted me completely from falling further. Then I had gotten sick and decided 'well, what if I watch their content?' And I did... I watched their hello82 interview and their reaction to fanart of them, and lastly their mafia dance. And I loved each sm that I decided to check out more.
It was the first time I had watched their content and wanted to see more. And now, I watch their content almost daily. It's kind of like they revived the joy of kpop for me? My (old) ult of ults has been on hiatus due to the military so it's been stagnant content lately for me. But then they came in like a breath of fresh air- and I simply can't get enough. This month will be 3 mos and I honestly hope I'll follow them for a long time. (I think they're my new ult of ults tbh)
And lastly now here I am as a Younghoon and Juyeon bias (with bias wrecker: Changmin... he's doing everything to be bias again). And with them having a comeback I loved with my whole heart this past month, I think it really solidified them with me. Honestly, I'm so happy with them.
#my 'fan origin story' hehe#lovely mutuals#asks#kate rambles from here#i even started a new kpop journal just dedicated to them and my thoughts- it's a 200 page journal and i have nearly 50 pages about them#and i started it in february ebhbha-#it's so funny because i saw one of my ults' concerts in theater the month before they should have became the ult of ults and here tbz comes#if the theory is true that you fall in love with certain people/groups/things at certain time then that means even when#i wanted to fall in love with them- that i had to wait until now to fall for them even if i wanted to fast forward it- i think now is a#perfect time- it's when i need them most i think- and fuck i could go on about them forever and why they mean sm to me in such little#time but oh how i love these guys-#no seriously everything i wish they could do- i find out they've done or will do- or for like pcs i like them a certain way and by golly#does yh do my favorite poses- and their music is just ?!?! i love it sm- ofc i've listened to them before a lot but ?? it's my speed rn#kate rambles#did i drag my close friend into them too? yes- yes I did- but she had full free will- she could have stayed on the happy mbb boat instead#of jumping into the water and swimming to lip gloss island with me- but alas she didn't so it's even more fun cause i get to be a new#deobi with her- and it's literally the best experiance i could have ever asked for- she prolly won't see these (i'm banking on it) and#honestly i'm so thankful for her- for joining me in this 'insanity' we've gotten ourselves into- i'm glad we were both stolen from our mbb#home together- it's sm fun to talk about tbz with her- because she's experiencing them new just like i am- i could go on here too#but i won't- so i'll stop here- i love these boyz sm tbh (every time i say it even if it's a lot- it doesn't feel enough)

white americans r so interesting bc they'll be like I'm not racist 😤😤😤 and then refuse to listen to a kpop song for reasons that basically boil down to it's not american so I don't like it
#I'm look at YOU. yes you. the kid who kept insisting that every kpop group/idol was bts and then when I told u that was a racist thing to#say you said it wasn't and that it was a joke and kept going w it despite literally everyone saying it was racist#and YOU AS WELL who asked me why I listened to it even tho I didn't understand the words. fool. music transcends borders and races and just#because I can't listen to it and immediately translate it in my head doesn't mean it isn't a good song#I don't need to understand what you r saying . . . Just give me a banger beat and catchy melody and I will love u#and also I can just search up what it means later if I want to 🙄🙄🙄 it's not that hard a concept#but I apologize to that one guy I probably ruined kpop for forever bc I let him listen to my txt playlist and the first song that came on#was cat and dog I'm so sorry sir please give it another chance u weren't supposed to hear that 🙏🙏🙏

Okay but in honour of Artistic Partisan being released on engstars, I'm going to be very self-indulgent and talk about how Hell Screen (source) coded it is. And yes I'm talking about Akutagawa Ryunosuke's short story about the (spoilers to come) painter obsessed with art and his beloved daughter who got sacrificed in all sorts of ways (then died) in order to inspire him to paint a scene of the Buddhist hell at the commission of his shady patron.
I mean, maybe it's just me but I think Artistic Partisan perfectly captures that line between obsessive creation and passionate artistry, flip flopping back and forth as the line "si vis artem, para bellum" (play on the latin "si vis parcem, para bellum" if you want art/peace, prepare for war) is chanted in the midst of it all. Like how could that not capture the artist's desire for eternity, longevity, beauty while also having the both threatening but invoking intense melody that gives it that edge of action and danger? It's so Hellscreen in the way that Hellscreen is a very bleak depiction of the battle that is art (with questionable beauty being produced but a definite masterpiece of expression regardless). Yes, the artist wants to live forever but, be warned, because the world of art is not one of peace. It is filled with blood and sacrifice and battles. Artistic Partisan is the warning song (but also a praise, almost, of art), Hellscreen is the story of the song ignored (but still proof of how war really does create art).
Just....man. They went hard on this one. If you want art, prepare for war indeed.
#i do have to say here that i dont really think that you ALWAYS need war to create art#just like you dont need war to have peace#but the sentiment remains#am i probably overanalysing an idol game?#yes.....but remember i come from the bsd/orv/link click fandoms so im not gonna stop....#ALSO MORE SONGS NEED LATIN IN THEM#can you imagine all the kpop and jpop and cpop's english all replaced with one of the dead languages instead?#i would probably listen to more music if it had dead languages in it honestly#anyway im being insane again please forgive me#enstars#ensemble stars#fandom spamdom#stuff i say#poems and related#also i have to say thank you to bsd bibliophile for so many good japanese lit sources and links#but yeah....i went insane over the song first because of the latin then because short stories...#i mean i did say my nazuna-velveteen rabbit was only one of the literature comparisons i went feral over#if i have time there will probably be one more...or maybe more if i read more enstars stories rip some please help

always interesting to hear people speak about kpop and how often they'll focus in on the fact a group was "put together" by a company and therefore that group is less than or fake or somehow tainted because they didn't organically form out in the wild and I'm like... of all the things you could have contempt about, thats the one you chose? That one?
#honestly coming from mostly listening to western music and seeing#how the US industry is kinda obsessed with the notion of plucking “stars” from obscurity- if you even hint at the idea someone was in#the industry before they launched it's very very likely they're going to get the industry plant type treatment. /They're so fake/ type thin#then getting into kpop and seeing everyone blatantly talk about doing traineeships and all of that is interesting#both industries have 1 million issues so this isnt a pro studios post btw#but I just do NOT find the notion of a group being put together... bad. Its such a weird thing to be angry about?#its always specifically in regards to music groups too- whether boy/girl groups or bands- people get so weird about it#like this guy was talking about kpop but western bands and groups get it too and have for decades and decades#80s rock group that started as HS friends? cool. acceptable. group that were studio musicians and then formed? fake. studio plants.#like yes it can be very cool when a group of people met and made a group and then managed to get signed or get successful#but i dont actually need every group in the world to have had some extensive past relationship before they started makin music like ??#again of all the things to focus on#negativity#not really its more confusion but lmao

you know what is funny? i saw someone pointing out this on twt yesterday but some people claim that they understand boycotting but somehow… SOMEHOW… don’t understand why hybe needs to be boycotted but this honestly just tells me that these people aren’t even participating in the general boycott and genuinely don’t understand why it is needed at all 😭 which is embarrassing i will say
#boycotting is easy people act like it isn’t bc#their comfort is being compromised and so they wanna act like victims#bc we are telling them they should boycott a fast food restaurant#or a company their faves are under#and i will say this if you truly support your faves#you would let companies that employ zionists#get away with this#and even tho yes these artists are under these companies#they aren’t their company#every other day i see people tweet/post about how they hate#company x y and z but the moment we ask you to boycott kpop companies#you are all up in arms bro#idk what to tell you people anymore other than you are dumb#and you are letting this shit happen bc you can go on a day#without streaming#i would even say if you TRULY love these artists’ music#you would do ANYTHING to listen to it if it means download that music somewhere else like#let’s be honest some of you aren’t even here for the music and it shows#tris.txt

Ok I always thought the "I am ---" trilogy and the Clé trilogy were two separate things but I've also always been confused by "I am YOU," the featured track from the final "I am ---" album. Like, it's sweet and all, and it makes a little sense (the line "I see myself in you" really clears things up for that one tbh), but it's never really felt like a resolution.
If I think about it, though, the Clé trilogy seems to be another identity-finding journey that centers on separating your identity from others. I don't mean, like, uniqueness, but rather not relying on others for your sense of identity. If I'm right, then Clé is actually a continuation of the "I am ---" albums.
However, the I am WHO album kind of doesn't fit very well here, because the main featured track is "My Pace," which is about not paying attention to like. peer pressure and stuff and doing the things you want to how you want to do them instead without comparing yourself to others. That kind of feels like it fits better with the whole separating self from others thing Clé has going on.
I vaguely remember hearing that the other song they were considering making the main track for I am WHO was "Awkward Silence," which, don't get me wrong, I LOVE that song, but it does not fit the vibe of the album so I'm kind of glad they did not do that, but it's also about not feeling pressured in social situations.
I guess you could say "My Pace" and "Awkward Silence" fit the progression of the "I am ---" albums, in a way, because they're starting to realize who they are, but I feel like they're too far ahead for having a whole 'nother album left. To be honest, I've always thought "Question" fits the vibes the best.
Anyways, I have a sort of theory for how the progression goes and ties together between these 6 albums:
I am NOT - hold on a minute who do I really want to be? what do I want in life? are the things I want really the things people tell me I should/do?
Representative songs: "NOT!" "Awaken"
I am WHO - if I'm not who everyone says I am, then who am I? (starts discovering self a bit)
Representative songs: "WHO?" "Question"
I am YOU - forming a good relationship (of any kind; could be significant other, friend, parent, whatever), or perhaps returning to one. it could be like a new relationship they're very happy with or it could be reaching an understanding with the people they rejected in I am NOT. part of their identity comes from this relationship. a large part of their identity, actually, probably, because like. it's. I am you. uh yeah
Representative songs: "YOU." "I am YOU" "Hero's Soup"
Clé 1: MIROH - whoah guys I'm pretty rad amirite
Representative songs: "MIROH" "Victory Song" "Boxer"
Clé 2: Yellow Wood - wait actually something is wrong? life is not as easy as I thought (kind of like that)
Representative songs: "Side Effects" "TMT" (not gonna count any of the mixtapes bc they're really more like singles that just happened to be released in this album)
Clé: LEVANTER - I defined myself too much by my relationship with this person (maybe the person from I am YOU) and lost sight of what I wanted for myself, so when they left me (possibly in Clé 2) I no longer knew what I to do. However, I now realize this and can take hold of my desires for myself.
Representative songs: "STOP" "Levanter" (most of the other songs carry similar 'I'm gonna do what I want now' sentiments, however, they do not include the same ideas about breaking free as "Levanter" and "STOP," while it also does not in words, the fact that it is pretty close to being the same song as "Road Not Taken" from Clé 2 but with mostly different lyrics indicates a connection to the unsureness of that album with a sense of moving on from it)
From the resolution of the Clé albums, most of their albums follow a trend of confidence, like that in Clé: MIROH except they haven't gone back to an uncertain theme afterward. Not every song is so confident, but there were confident songs in the beginning, so why shouldn't it be the other way around?. Case in point: "Grow Up," from I am NOT didn't start with confidence, but it ended with it, and there's also "YAYAYA" from the album from even before their debut. In TOP, which, yes, is now like 3 years old or something (I'm really behind on their newer albums so idk what most of the songs are but I am literally actively working on it right at this moment) and was for an anime, there's "SLUMP," which was written/composed/arranged by Han and Chan so it definitely fully counts, and it's fully super not confident. Nevertheless, the fact that I knew all the songs up through, like, THUNDEROUS, and still had a really hard time thinking of less confident stuff means there's definitely a trend of confidence since the resolution of the clé albums.
#excuse me if my vocab is totally wrong i only have thoughts and no experience with proper expression#i have so many thoughts#btw they have a bunch of sad songs i could think of in later albums#but SAD is not UNCONFIDENT#it's SAD#there's a difference#anyways#i would love to hear thoughts if anyone else has them#also i want to say i have listened to songs from all the albums up through skz-replay#just not all of the full albums#so that is what i am working on#and yes i know perfectly well this means i have not heard any of the latest two albums or like. what 5 EPs??#I'm literally working on it you guys#skz#stray kids#music#kpop#theorizing#thoughts#text post#long post#btw yes i have further thoughts about this#i love doing large-scale literary analysis on music#update: DON'T WORRY YOU GUYS I CAUGHT UP#I've listened to it all now
