hiii i luv your writing so much!! this is probably a silly question but what media do you read/watch to get a good understanding of the batboys? i want to write about them ^_^ i know only a little based on what I've read from stories but other than that im clueless... sorry if this is a very weird thing to ask.... i just luv your writing and look up to you!!!

there is a lot of media to choose from when learning about the batboys characters. Almost every comic, movie & game shows us different sides of their personality. id recommend these medias to start from. i would like to clarify that i am no expert in this. i have barely read any comics about them.

IM UPDATING THIS LITTLE GUIDE. most of the suggestions i gave were to give you all a quick understanding. now i see alot of people are liking this list but i just had to give you guys justice and gather up more suggestions and recommendations. but this time, they're actually important for lore and not only for a quick understanding.

lore wise:

a death in the family (jason todd's death) (no ones surprised kore); a lonely place of dying (immediately after ditf) (tim's introduction); batman: knightfall; batman: no man's land; bruce wayne: murderer/fugitive; batman: war games (ive heard its rough tho)

something lighter?

batgirl (2000) (cassandra cain); robin (1993) (tim drake); batgirl (2009) (stephanie brown)

quick understanding:

batman: death in the family & batman: under the red hood, Arkham Knight (a more gritty version of jay, bruce, etc) juni ba's comics (i recommend juni ba's comics to every dc fan), batman vs robin, son of batman, gotham knights (take this one with a GRAIN OF SALT, not many liked it, i personally liked it, very OOC imo, but fun 😭), wayne family adventures. (most of my characteristics for the batboys comes from wfa, its not exactly canon, more slice of life), if you're feeling like it you could give the series titans a try (first dc media i ever watched, im not too much of a fan of the earlier seasons, the characters building gets better down the road), young justice is a classic (currently watchinf yj, you could watch it for nightwing i suppose)

I have some issues with the movies, considering we do not get the full batfamily in most of them, plus i feel like their culture/roots often gets ignored (damian and dick for example). (Jason, tim and duke are often ignored. Mostly duke though).

what to keep in mind when writing:

dont fall for the stereotypes. jason wasn't some angry robin. tim isnt always glued to his computer. duke is 100% a batfam member and has his own full fleshed out character. damian isn't unfeeling. talia isn't a horrid mother. bruce is flawed yes, but for our sakes give him a chance.

dont forget their roots/race/ethnicity— i think it is canon that dick is romani (writers put that in ~2000's, in a very racist way as well. it doesn't erase the fact dick is romani, but take advice from romani and roma creators when writing for him (if you plan on highlighting his heritage)). damian is mixed— arab and chinese heritage on his mother's side, plus bruce is white so (wow kore you worded that beautifully). for damian his culture is pretty important— id recommend letting it shine through while writing.

dont forget duke. duke thomas is a batboy. he will always be a batboy. try and include him in any works where the other batboys r included.

I definitely do and it frustrates me that Beatriz had to literally spell things out about Vaggie and her struggles for people who are insisting that she’s “one dimensional” and has no arc going for her.

And of course I agree! These are things I've written essays about on both my tumblr accounts. I've tried to get it thru the thick heads of some people on twitter. I've used it as foundation for my characterization for her in my fics and fanarts. It's so tragic that we're celebrating a VA stating the obvious just because the fandom is too set on hating Vaggie to see the potential of her character, but it is how it is.

What I am really really surprised by, is how detailed and deep Stephanie's explanation was! Like whoa. Now see, as much as I absolutely adore this show, I'm not blind to its flaws and the creator's biases. Idk if this is unexpected of me to admit, but I didn't have high expectations that Vaggie's issues with her codependency would be explored 👀💦

Now, don't get me wrong, it doesn't mean to say I didn't expect her to be explored at all. But the thing is, I'm well aware that although the first season so far definitely didn't ignore the ladies as much as the fandom and antis would like to think, I honestly had little hope of this momentum staying that way in future seasons because of the Vees, Alastor's subplot, Angel, Lucifer, and Charlie's own arc as, of course, the main character.

There's a lot of things that are about to happen, and interesting enough, we already have an idea because of the previous lore already released in the internet before the show got greenlit. The fans wanna see it, and I damn well know Viv is excited to explore it too. There's this expectation, you know, from the previously established lore. The subplot that will involve these men will very likely take up a huge chunk of the following seasons, and that doesn't even include the overarching conflict with Heaven and redemption.

So with all that being said, I didn't see a lot of hope in Vaggie being explored in depth because there just isn't enough time to squeeze her in a series with 8 twenty minute long episodes each season that for some reason has a requirement of 2 songs per episode. I've made my peace with that. The bare minimum I wanted was Vaggie's rivalry with Lute to go in line with her issues with her self-worth. For her to see how far gone Lute has become and to realize how well she's doing in comparison. To finally accept that she's doing good and has been making progress in her own, self-imposed redemption where all she asks for is the right to love and be loved in return, no return ticket to Heaven needed.

But wow! Stephanie saying that they're playing the long game when it comes to the unhealthy elements of their relationship, not just Vaggie's flaw as an individual, is great! Of course we still have to wait for how it's executed, but the fact that Stephanie got into such detail about this leads me to believe that the things she has already recorded for during production will definitely lead up to the development we want for their relationship.

I really honestly would've been fine even if Vaggie stayed codependent. I've loved previous characters all the same even if they couldn't manage to break away from being the lost puppy dog that thought the world of the person they loved, as long as the person they love also loves them back just as intensely. Like. Idk. Gwanshik from When Life Gives You Tangerines. I just think there's charm to be appreciated in romance that's devoted up to a tragic degree. And don't lie I damn well know there are lotsa other people into that because that shit's EVERYWHERE in fan content, and widely loved in straight romances in media. Men get to be called "boyfriend goals" when they're on their knees like Gomez Addams for the woman they love, letting her shine while they take the backseat. Why can't a little gay angel do the same without being degraded?

Also! Also! I'm thinking a whole lot about Stephanie saying we don't get to know Vaggie all that much too because that is true even if you take into account the pre-show lore because of the Exorcist plot twist. Vaggie's pre-show lore used to be similar to Angel's, but now we're not even sure if she used to be human! This changes everything, and again I didn't have high expectations of her being explored too deeply, but now I really hope this means we'll get to know her finalized backstory.

And I look forward to this likely meaning getting to see Vaggie forge deep friendships outside of Charlie, most likely with Carmilla. I'm really hoping Vaggie making friends would also get us to explore Charlie's shortcomings as a partner too. She lowkey takes her girlfriend for granted, and I really hope for her to have an interesting reaction to possibly needing to share her girlfriend with others, especially as someone who has very few friends and possibly some abandonment issues.

DS2 RANT WITH SPOILERS:

People being so loudly wrong about higgs and his writing in DS2 is slowly starting to kill me cause I don’t think we love the same character AT ALL.

I’m writing this with no hate so please don’t take it personally but I’m getting annoyed at how badly y’all wanna defend higgs from his actions.

I LOVE how awful he is in DS2. How that rage has festered inside him to lash out at everything yet desperate to keep playing games because he needs to be entertained. He is such a tragic villain and that is the POINT. It’s not bad writing for someone to be written so complex. Kojima is not writing for us to hate higgs. We are supposed to sympathize and feel sorry for him, but also angry at how this grown ass man is throwing temper tantrums because he refuses to take some accountability for the things he’s done. Hurting fragile, killing others, etc.

And I HATE that people try and go “oh but what abt amelie she’s worse and manipulated him?” Do you not remember the end of DS1?? The part where she cut herself off from everyone to suffer alone to prevent the exctinction?? Why do people keep ignoring that as if she’s not repenting?? It lowkey feels misogynistic the way people are comparing higgs to fragile and amelie, when these 3 are all complex individuals. Higgs and fragile are DIRECT parallels! The way they are written is purposeful and not trying to paint higgs as simply evil and “doesn’t deserve help”. If that was the case, why even give us scenes of him at the end grieving and crying? Why even add lore about him being abused as a child at all if kojima wanted to paint him as some one-dimensional villain.

Some people want to infantilize this grown man and reduce him to nothing but his trauma to excuse all the bad he’s done out of his own volition. Fragile and sam are there to be direct parallels to higgs character, to prove him wrong.

Yes, it is sad that higgs didn’t get help. In another universe I wish he did but then this wouldn’t make for a story if everyone just got therapy and held hands. Sometimes the abused become abusers and yall refuse to accept that. It’s a real, sad thing but it doesn’t excuse his actions and behavior. Higgs is complex and nuanced because of his backstory but to reduce him to just his trauma takes away that complexity. You don’t want higgs, you want someone to soothe and coddle. Higgs was going to end up like this in DS2, because in all the years he spent repenting on the beach like amelie, he decides to take no accountability and become worse out of pure anger and spite.

Trauma and abuse affects everyone in different ways. In no way am I, or DS2, trying to hate higgs for not being the perfect victim, however, trauma and abuse does NOT excuse the choices he’s made and thats what some of you are failing to grasp. Higgs is not the only person with trauma or abuse in this story and you guys trying to compare who’s had it “harder” are missing the point.

I’m sorry if this upsets some people to hear but I’m so tired of hearing people say DS2 is trying to “make victims look like bad people” or that DS2 is awful all because kojima didn’t write a redemption arc for the man who abused and killed fragile and tried to kill a baby (and bragged about killing said baby).

Higgs is NOT the first ever villain to have a tragic backstory that does not get redeemed and he will certainly not be the last. And I highly doubt this is the last we ever see of him unless kojima says otherwise.

i like to think one of her abilities is just. Her Paranoia. causing their code eye to reveal whoever is within her radius every like... 10 seconds, maybe? she's a Survivalist, that's all i can make out lulz.

uhh something something the tree yoinked all of his friends accounts, leaving him the solo survivor of its spread. as it starts to yoink his away too, he made one last attempt to call for help from Roblox. but, like always, no one answered. then boom!

his blue hand is actually a glove! the nosoi infection kinda fucked his arm up so he was given it to bring himself some sort of comfort, and also not to accidently hurt someone with its sharp ass roots.

oh yeah and the actual tree is a killer here. it yoinked the NPC that they made to talk to it and basically turns that NPC into anyone it likes to trick the other survivors into joining it. doesn't matter who, so long it works.

i think rochas might be support? the reason that the infection isn't getting worse is because by the advice of the internet(aka searching things up), he downloaded a antivirus and that ended up being incorporated into his avatar when he got dragged down into forsaken. so yippee!!

his abilities, uhh.. maybe tree walls? roots to block off entrances? traps to alart others of the killer? something along those lines.

arg trio dragging mafioso into their little friend group(his boys found them and they decided they're cool). yes they all speak in chat. well, facelulz is stuck with safe chat but— yeah. they get voices eventually, trust.

1x is still an asshole. very reluctantly helping out the survivors for survival cuz telamon can and will beat their ass. he already managed to do some perma damage, soo...

he only has one of the daemonswords, thingy. it's not as powerful, or dangerous, but it gets the job done. hit a killer? good job! they're stunned n' gets a mini game now, but now they know where you are. run.

he's very petty. he's not used to being more then just an embodiment of hatred. so he's in deep, deep denial. yikes!

If the LADS Were Yandere… (Or Basically My Thoughts So Far)

So I started in around the 1st of March of this year (which means I missed TOMORROW’S CATCH-22 and CALEB’S FIRST BANNER- WHYYY!? 😭😭😭) and its been… two months since then? I am still knee deep in the rabbit hole, which is strange considering my track record with games like these.

I just wanted to share my thoughts as of currently.

First Impression:

Lemme just say, when I first met him in the game, I was like “Eh.” I mean he’s a pretty guy who’s innocent (is what I thought) and probably doesn’t know how to romance. He’s definitely has personality matching his alien mascot. I will say that his seeming clumsiness where he has trouble pulling away from the crowd until MC helps him out is cute. He’s like a cute and helpless bunny. White hair, blue eyed whittle bunny~

Current Impression:

Innocent!? INNOCENT!? LADIES, GENTLEMEN AND EVERYONE ELSE, LEMME TELL YOU-

So I was completely spoiled by the Midnight Whispers card pretty early on as a result of looking at Love and Deepspace and my impression of him changed. Yes, the one where he refuses to allow MC to like Lumiere (even though everyone knows who he is, and Mister Pouty Bunny is being a dumb bunny). I found this jealously very adorable (I am a fan of yanderes, and that includes jealousy— dark romance, anyone?)

And then I happened to see the Floof Attack card.

Again, I saw this pretty early on, and by early, I mean I hadn’t even been up to Rafayel’s island trip part of the main story at the time when I was browsing through Love and Deepspace content.

Anyway, at that point, I finally understood the references. I stand corrected. He is still adorable, but by no means not innocent. I… I like handsome bunnies who know how to seduce, what can I tell you?

Type of Yandere:

If I had to label him as a type of yandere, it would be manipulative yandere. Like he’s a yandere kind of knows his behavior is not good, but who's going to stop him? He's too cute to stay angry at and he knows it while doing his stupid bunny pout. How dare you!? 👈( ｡ •̀ ᴖ •́ ｡)💢

Yes, I did pull Midnight Whispers when the rerun came around, because of that pout. And yes, the moment I saw Xaiver punching the bunny cushion, I decided after already spending 100 dollars to get the cards I actually wanted that I needed Inflorescence Imprints. Because of that pout. Damn it. I have a thing for bunnies, unfortunately.

Also, I ended up getting exposed to character analysis (I love, love, love character and lore analyses) of him and found out that he has yandere traits as well.

Now, whether or not he is canonically yandere (I think he is), we cannot ignore his moments. First of all, protectiveness? I believe he takes down people who are after MC canonically. To be fair, they do deserve it since they intended to harm MC, but-

The breadsticks man. I’ll have to more research about that whole ordeal but from what I gather, Xavier has beef with that guy for supposedly hitting on MC. With breadsticks.

So, I found Zayne kind of cold. Like I kind of wished he was more emotive and less social distancing. I thought he was boring amongst the original three love interests, especially compared to Xavier and Rafayel. Like Xavier has a bunny mindset (iykyk) and Rafayel has bratty side, but Zayne? He’s kind of… a block of ice? I’ve been in relationships with emotionally unavailable people, and somehow his initial traits was reminding me of that.

Also he plays a mage, and if anyone looks at my track record when it comes to MMORPGs or just RPGs in general, I’m not the best with mages.

He is the most realistic man out of everyone in the game, and I love him for that. I will say, even before Caleb, I definitely had my heart set out for him even if he was cold at first. He’s so domestic, I can’t-

Gameplay-wise, I have better cards now, so he’s doing pretty well as mage. I still can’t play as a mage though. I prefer the guns over everything.

Type of Yandere:

Look, I don’t think he’s canonically yandere… but at the same time, there are arguments I’d like to make. First of all, he became a doctor for her. Now, whether it was his own intentions in the first place or not, he became a cardiac surgeon of all things. And not only that but he also became MC’s assigned physician.

I… question if there’s a conflict for that. Since he’s technically not considered family (I’m looking at you, Caleb), they are technically unrelated in the eyes of the health system. However, it is generally advisable for physicians to avoid treating friends or family members, due to ethical and practical considerations. I don’t know that side of the healthcare field, so I cannot say whether or not it is allowed and/or if it is enforced at all in the LADS universe.

But anyway, I dunno know. Become your love interest’s physician is definitely up there in yandere traits. Like he could definitely prescribe her certain pills is that how Caleb got his?  and drug her, but he doesn’t.

Because he’s perfect.

I mean I think it’s cute that he became her physician, because what better way to keep an eye on the girl you love than to literally watch over her and have access to all of her vitals. Do you think he asks her if she is pregnant or if she’s participating in sexual activity. I don’t think he does but… like if he did, he wouldn’t because he’d know she couldn’t be, not without him at least hahaha.

He even sabotaged his own research to protect her. If he can do that, what else has he done? Oh right, he appears in other’s content. Like Caleb’s main story content. I was so surprised seeing him there. Like… what’s he doing there? And also, come to think of it, he also appeared in the train event too!? And bought coffee for MC before they even said hello?

So I would consider him a restrained yandere, because… have… have we not seen that one card? You know? The one card where it proves a man who yearns is a man who earns? 😋 Even his other selves want MC, but don’t touch her.

He definitely holds himself back, but when he’s unleashed? I’d bet on it.

On a side note, if Caleb and Zayne were to team up as yanderes, wouldn't they be unstoppable!? One is a colonel who has access to an army and the other is a doctor who has access to all kinds of chemicals. Oh my gawd- PEAK.

Now canonically, technically he is bound to MC through a promise made years and years ago so he doesn’t have as much free will as the other love interests do (I’mma get to Sylus, be patient). Therefore, he can’t really be considered as obsessive as the others can be.

However, he does lie to MC so easily it’s like he’s just drinking water. He's… in my opinion, most likely the kind of yandere out of the five who would definitely kill his love to make sure they are his and his alone.

We cannot forget that the God of Tides is out to end my life- I mean MC’s life (Epic, anyone?)

And ;et's not forget how he constantly splurges just show off, like renting a whole boutique or letting MC overpay on those cheap protocores.

So he has all the traits of the overbearing yandere type, the kind of that like makes sure their lover can’t do anything without it coming back to him. Which… I think canonically that happens. He does end up somehow appearing near MC all of sudden, like the rest of the love interests do (I’m looking at you, Zayne).

BUT he is indeed the ultimate domestic king of consent that trusts in MC’s plans from top to bottom and basically lets her do whatever she wants so long as it doesn’t… Honestly, what doesn’t he let her do? Kill herself? That’s like normal though?

And the fact that he saves MC, but doesn’t expect anything from her except recognition? Even when she refuses, doesn’t he just pout and basically does nothing except be patient?

Honestly… that’s like… the opposite of yandere. Or least, I don’t think I’ve seen a yandere like that, if it counts. He’s so anti-yandere that is makes me question my own taste about yanderes.

I mean obviously I wouldn’t object to a fanfic about a yandere Sylus, since I like yanderes. It just… I wouldn’t think of that version of Sylus as canon Sylus, you know what I’m saying?

Now… I wouldn’t put him above begging though. He does sort of threaten to act like a child to get MC’s attention at one point though. A few years ago, I was discussing The Last Jedi with a classmate and he said something like “It was a good movie, just not a good Star Wars movie”. At the time, I chalked it up to the fact that he was a teenage boy who was probably parroting the vague and irritating criticism that the movie faced at the time. Years later, I began to think about that moment more and more. Despite hearing that critique so many times, hearing it from him made me reflect on the concept of “getting” Star Wars and what fans perceive as “getting” Star Wars.

What the last few years (and the stream of post-TROS shows) have taught me, is that a large portion of fans don’t actually get what Star Wars is. The same is true for those who are currently planning the future of the franchise. They don’t see the value in the mythical framework of the series or care to understand it, it seems like they overlook it entirely. They’re so consumed by the fidelity to “the lore” that they can’t take step back and see the (mythical) elements that drew them to the story in the first place. It feels a bit arrogant of me to say that, but it’s a feeling that’s been bothering me.

Yes, part of the core of the problem is that even the people who actually like SW that DLF hired seem to be mostly fans of the old EU who are fundamentally unconcerned with what SW is actually about. People who prioritise 'lore' and minutiae, who think trivia is worldbuilding or that 'worldbuilding' is what defines the GFFA.

Whereas what actually defines the GFFA is the themes ('love people, that's all Star Wars is' -George Lucas). The universe exists to tell the story and the story exists to communicate the themes. It is character-driven, not plot or setting driven. Things making emotional sense is the only thing that matters in the OT, the logistics are irrelevant and incidental. It's not sci-fi and never has been, there is no interest in explaining the rules of the technology or codifying the Force into a structured system. There is no exploration of the relationship of society with technology because this is an epic fantasy story focussing on the conflict going on in the human spirit between selfishness and love; it's about the coming of age of an individual where the entire setting is established to facilitate that. SW is a story about individuals and their journey to ethical adulthood.

TLJ is written to the mythic archetype and themes of SW, its basic narrative shape is absolutely textbook exactly what anyone who understands literary criticism should have expected. It is exactly what a SW sequel to TFA should and needed to be. Which is why so many people doing that kind of analysis were able to accurately predict its main story beats.

The lore fans who want 'realism', video game power system Force magic, and the kind of moral ambiguity which is foundationally incompatible with SW are not fans of the story, they are fans of the trappings. These are the people who dismiss Vader's redemption as a unforunate incidental that 'everyone' can ignore because the rest of RotJ is good (paraphrase of an actual post I saw).

THE moral victory, the protagonist's moment of vindication, the entire POINT of the story and this dude thinks it's like, an accidental blooper that just kinda snuck into the edit because he wants Luke to be a standard American hero and not to have his worldview challenged.

I am totally comfortable saying they don't get SW no matter how much trivia they've memorised and merch they've collected.

While sometimes it is frustrating to see characters and companions not reacting to the big lore revelations, I find it works pretty well with Davrin. He is clearly uninterested in Dalish gods, even if in Vows and Vengeance he uses "May Andruil guide you on your path", and he is uninterested in openly (with others at least) talk about his feelings on the main revelations. Elves are spirits? He shrugs it away or decides to ignore it (much more interested in how this will affect elves than anything else), the gods? Not his, not interested in them.

He even calls Solas "Baldy" and is not particularly intimidated by him or by the two remaining Evanuris (or respectful of them). (And we also know he does not believe the Fade is real, tho much of that Emmrich banter seem more like he is teasing him).

Another small element of his relationship with the gods is another Vows and Vengeance comment. Someone mentions Fen'harel doing a ritual, and Davrin reacts quite alarmed, asking where the other person heard that name. Does he actually believe in Fen'harel? Or is it simply the idea that someone would use the name of the trickster god?

EDIT: UPDATE! There is a dialogue between Neve and Davrin where Davrin confirms he never truly believed in the gods, he always thought they were a myth.

Neve: Does it bother you they're elven gods? Davrin: It won't help our reputation, that's for sure. Davrin: But me, I never gave our gods much thought. They were just a myth. Neve: Not anymore.

I also wanted to say - yes, I know some discrepancies are probably writing related. To me the most "out of narrative" explanation is that the Vows and Vengeance writers did not fully consult about his character with the game writers, and the game writers rushed through these revelation and did not allow for many reactions.

About Davrin's vallaslin

In a previous interview the answer was not given (it was treated like it was supposed to be a big spoiler), but in the game, as far as I can tell, we do not see any identification for Davrin's vallaslin.

I talked before (here in part 1) about why I think it is Andruil's (or a mix of Andruil and Ghil) and now I am even more certain it might be Andruil. Not only Davrin is the one who tells of the tale of Andruil during the Solas' memories event, but in Vow and Vengeance he gives Nadia a blessing from Andruil:

Nadia: My love. He waits for me Davrin: Then may Andruil guide you on your path.

This is of course a Davrin pre-Veilguard. In Vow and Vengeance he also is alarmed by hearing that the Dread Wolf is doing something. I am a bit confused by how much he actually believes in the gods, at this point!

Davrin and protecting elves

In general, Davrin seems the only character to mention elves discrimination, mainly through banter or some rare comment here and there. We also know he is the only elf who lived away from other Dalish elves (different from Bellara who seems still in contact with her clan and lives with a group that highly respects elves), and we know he described his impact with the outside world as "different" (from what he imagined, see part 1 here).

At the end of the game, you can also have a banter between him and Solas:

Solas: You are Davrin of the Grey Wardens. And judging by your vallaslin, you are Dalish. Solas: I expect you have been urging the team not to trust the Dread Wolf, based on the stories you heard around the campfire in your youth. Davrin: What story should I tell? The one about the Dread Wolf creating the blight when he and Mythal slaughtered the Titans? Solas: Have you told the Dalish? Davrin: Why? So it can spread and make humans blame elves for even more things our ancient ancestors did? Davrin: Sharing that story would get a lot of people killed. Davrin: So the best thing I can do right now, as a Warden and a Dalish elf, is to stop the blight and clean your mess. Solas: Mala shivanas ar athim.

(the last seems to translate as "Your duty humbles me").

A similar sentiment is shared after the "elves were spirits" memory from Solas:

The main core reaction we get about the Solas' revelations are not inwardly focused (his own reaction to them) but focused outwards: towards other elves. It seems not to be as important that Solas made the Titans tranquil as much as the danger of humans to blame elves. He is not as interested in elves derived from spirits, as much as he is interested in bigoted humans starting to see all elves as demons.

I think it is also interesting that he only mentions "humans", even if the reactions regarding the Titans would probably come from dwarves, it is clearly humans that in the DA world oppress and discriminate elves.

More Davrin info from the Artbook

I also just wanted to add this for completion sake!

He's in his early 30s and left his dalish clan in his teens. Usually elves (from the codex compiled in the wiki page) get the vallaslin around 18 or younger, so it could overlap to being just before his departure if he got the vallaslin in his clan.

Also the artbook says he created his own armor from different pieces!

I love seeing the stitches in his main blue-like collar jacket, and you can see some wear and tear on the rest of his clothes, especially the waist piece!!

Oho what's this? I'm making Skullgirls headcanons?

I ain't kidding. Yes, I am. I actually have super mixed feelings about the many open-ended threads of lore in the game. I kinda like it because it allows me to make headcanons like this (ignore the Medici fuckup), but at the same time, I don't really think it had a good impact on the story. Lots of interesting stuff could be put there.

Skullgirls world technology level is close to that of our current time in the 21st century. However, the uses and people's mannerisms are more of the 40's with many tweaks for the rule of cool.

Speaking of tech, Brain Drain is an AI bro, the sort who screams, "AI ART IS REAL ART AAAAA," and gets into fights over it. Valentine is neutral on AI. Dr. Avian is also pro-AI, but is ethical and knows the limits and challenges. Brain Drain types out whole text messages about AI and instigates LEGENDARY arguments among the labs.

Irvin fights in an ambidextrous manner like Revy from Black Lagoon (can't help it - his two guns remind me of her). Many chicks dig him because TALL, DARK, AND MYSTERIOUS IS VERY HOT 🥵😭🍑💖🔥🔥🔥.

After Umbrella's story mode, Parasoul heard of Filia and Carol's plight and arranged them to have certain support and properties under the proper officials. Filia and Carol now live together and will be having scholarships for college.

Aside from working for the Anti-Skullgirl labs, the previous squads of the Last Hope participated in King Franz's war campaigns. In this headcanon, the SG world has a rule like ours that states combat medics shouldn't be shot at. King Franz took advantage of this and used these squads for biological warfare and effective surprise attacks.

Double also supported herself in the human world as an actress. She was always bitchy and mean to Annie, Selene, Eliza, and literally every celebrity that breathed in her face in that disguise. She was the number 1 drama instigator in their media. Every damn time, there would be something wild popping out about her.

Albus (the bodyguard of Eliza that looks like Anubis) is not a jackal but a black dog feral. This is based on how Anubis may not really be a jackal but a Pharaoh hound (I love long-faced dogs they're sooooo cute 🥺).

The first head of the Medici family had Leviathan as his host. He enjoyed art and music and gave Leviathan as a gift to the Contiellos. He once had the life gem, so when he took Leviathan from his body, he didn't die. (My most preferred one. The other have this head be Lorenzo's parent or boss). This head was more pragmatic than Lorenzo, though, and preferred to be stealthy and smart. He was also more of a fighter, too. Lorenzo is the more hedonistic, narcissistic, flamboyant one who likes being on the front pages of magazines like Bugsy Siegel and buying expensive stuff.

Since Leviathan stated that he and Samson were present before the Skull Heart, then I'll make this headcanon - parasites have been around since the prehistoric ages. Once humans, ferals, gigans, elves, dagonians, etc. grew more complex and the parasites began spending more time with them, that was when they learned to talk in their languages and articulate their ideas as such. Parasites always had complex minds and were able to form long-term memories, they just didn't know how to articulate them until they crossed paths with civilization.

Ferals procreate like the Mink Tribe in One Piece. When the parents are two different species, the kid may come out as another species that isn't their parents'. Same with Dagonians. (One thing I noticed is that these two races in Skullgirls remind me of the Minks and Fishmen in One Piece).

Cerebella didn't attend school. She was homeschooled and trained by the mafia since day 1.

Not my headcanon, but I support it. Beowulf is actually very smart. Has actually taken PhDs and loves to read. Aside from having side roles as the big bad wolf in Annie's show, he is a librarian. He also used these smarts in the ring, where he'd calculate his strikes.

When simply patrolling, The Last Hope also gives medical treatments for free.

Peacock also watches cartoons in the Skullgirls equivalent of Adult Swim. She does prefer the sillier, kiddy ones, though.

Parasoul likes Annie of the Stars because that was her comfort media. Ever since her father started his wars, ever since she was training to be a worthy queen, especially after her mother died, Parasoul deep down looked up to Annie's lessons of standing up for good, never giving up, and protecting the innocent. Though being a real-life head-of-state has more complexities, deep down, Parasoul would always love Annie, her inspiration.

The one with the real political power in Canopy Kingdom is actually a prime minister. However, the Renoir family will always find a way to have the final say if the situation calls for it.

New Meridian is actually like what Hong Kong is to China. It's considered separate, but the Canopy Kingdom has a degree of dominance over it.

The reason why Queen Nancy was a very powerful Skullgirl was, aside from the wish she made to stop the wars and the fact that she was in a warzone most likely filled with dead warriors, especially powerful ones, the umbrella Todd had something to do with it.

Big Band once played gigs at nightclubs to support himself in police academy. He had to be very careful because many of those nightclubs were run by the mafia, and it's not just the Medici Mafia.

When not angry, Carol/Painwheel likes to fly around with the Buer Drive. No thoughts, head empty, just fly around wheeeee ✈️.

If told to draw, Robo Fortune cannot draw hands (a jab at some AI art engines drawing hands so badly). She can't even trace a hand on a paper for whatever reason, and it's driving Brain Drain mad.

The second person in Fukua is actually Shamone on her head. Regarding the two people used to create her, the warrior good at close combat was actually Delilah - Brain Drain actually found an artifact confirmed to be Delilah's and it was fortunate that it had her DNA stuck on it. The assassin who specialized in ranged combat was one of Black Dahlia's best bunny girl assassins.

Taliesin can master any stringed instrument in a short period of time ( the longest is like 2 weeks) except for piano.

There is a pro-Medici Mafia series super beloved in New Meridian, which I could see as their equivalent of "the Sopranos." It's called "My Outlaw Darling." It's a live action just in case some of you think it's animation like My Little Pony or My Dress-up Darling because of the title reference. Bad - or maybe good hehehehe 😊 - news: it's very smutty, risqué, sexy, and 🍑 PASSIONATE ✨️. Embarrassingly, Lorenzo was walked in on many times doing "self-love" to the dirty scenes, particularly the ones between men for whatever reason. IDK, he's bored. This series gets on the Renoir's nerves. Since King Franz isn't really doing much in public, if he uses his TV as background noise, once he hears the "My Outlaw Darling" opening song, he has to stop himself from smashing the TV if he's doing something that requires him to keep sitting down. Peacock also hates it and actually gets up to fire lasers at the TV once she hears the theme! She and her gang have a joke about the airing time of the series where they call it "the witching hour."

Regarding the sexual nature of "My Outlaw Darling," I don't know why it isn't called "OutLewd" 🤔.

I promise that I haven’t been ignoring your asks concerning this question topic. I was trying my best to locate some interviews and commentary to support my answer to your question. However, I can give you a quick response without extra fluff.

I feel that the third film did as well as it did due to the crew listening to the fans and evaluating critiques. Yes, these are Sonic fans making the movie, but they’re also making professionals in their field. They know how to cater to film critics, casual movie fans, and Sonic fans very well.

One of the things that I feel that they listened to was focus on the characters that they’ve wanted to use. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using original characters. Not at all! And from these original characters, we’ve grown to love Tom, Maddie, and Agent Stone very much. We’re vocal about loving these characters and how they work well with Sonic-based characters. Therefore, we didn’t have any other side characters to worry about as well. It’s creates a balance.

The story focused on one main issue rather than having a subplot. We focus on one problem and how to solve it. I am in no way, no how saying that subplots are bad. What I’m saying is that a subplot can work if it matches the story’s pacing. Sonic 2 (2022)’s subplot needed to happen. We had to have the wedding scene in order to know that Walters and G.U.N. was active and watching the Wachowski family. That, as we needed to know that Rachel’s heart wasn’t broken in the end by an Agent. However, what got in the way was the subplot’s pacing. If the pacing was reevaluated just a tad, then I think that Sonic fans would be more open to it. Other than such, I think that it was a good close to Rachel’s story in the SCU. She’s finally happy.

Sonic 3 felt more like Sonic 1 (2020), which was a movie that a lot of people enjoyed. It focuses on a uniqueness and charm that was there from the film. It makes it a point to show that Sonic and Shadow are “what if situations” if they took different paths.

The music. Holy shit the music. Mr. Fowler explained a couple of years ago that inserting Sonic music into the movie was problematic due to how SEGA copyrighted their music for the games (info on that it’s in my pinned post from January 2024). It’s not that they didn’t want to use it, it’s how the video game company copyrighted it. Whatever Mr. Fowler did to convince SEGA to lift their copyright agreement on the music changed the soundtrack for the film. There is DEFINITELY Sonic music to a movie that is meant to be a representation to a very beloved Sonic game.

Shadow. Just. Shadow. Whether some fans like it or not, Shadow is an extremely popular character. And he’s very popular for a reason. He’s a character that people can relate to on an emotional and mental level. If people have experienced loss and anger, then they relate to Shadow. This is not me saying that fans can only relate to Shadow. What I’m saying is that there are many layers and personalities to Shadow that fans might like where you might not get that with characters like Tails or Amy Rose. With the promotion of “Fearless: Year of Shadow” all through 2024 and a remaster of Sonic Generations, I think that influenced many fans to appreciate him on a level that was never considered before, as well as create new fans to the fandom. Plus, I can definitely see Hollywood utilizing Shadow the Hedgehog more in future films. That, and banking Keanu Reeves to voice Shadow (a very popular fan casting since the early 2010s) has helped tremendously.

And finally, the SCU crew knows now to make fans want to come back for more. They leave trails of breadcrumbs through movies and the miniseries that leads to you research how the “rules” work for the SCU, as well as encourage you to explore Sonic through the video games. When lore differs a between the games, the SCU crew knows how to make it faithful and pay homage to the original idea without trying to proclaim that one idea is better than the other. Both ideas are unique and cool in their own ways.

in doing my research for exactly where/ if it would say in the canon that no girls would survive the trials, I found that a lot of the lore around the origin of Witchers and the other Witcher schools is not from the games or books but from the TTRPGs, both the one from Poland in 2001 and the new one that CDPR made

now I have to take the wikis word for it since I don't own any of the TTRPG books and I do not speak Polish, do you have any more insight into this?

As far as I can remember, the idea that a girl would not survive the trials is never stated in the books.

What is stated in the books is:

The chances of survival for boys given the mutations is three to four out of ten (30–40%). This is considered barbaric by essentially every single character that we’ve seen comment on it. Geralt and the witchers around his age are the last witchers to be produced in Kaer Morhen. // Source: Something More Part IV, Crossroads of Ravens Ch. 12

Geralt states to Calanthe that the witchers believe a Child of Surprise would not require the trials. // Source: Something More Part IV.

Triss speculates that Ciri might resent the witchers, should she continue to be given hormones (the mushrooms she eats at dinner), because she would thus grow up to have more masculine features, rather than feminine ones — similar to giving a female child puberty blockers or testosterone. This is also when Triss shames the witchers for training Ciri like a boy, like any other child witcher, because none of them have any problem with it and have considered it a positive thing—until Triss points out Ciri had her period, and none of them knew. The witchers then agree to stop giving her the mushrooms, become more sensitive to her biological sex, which they had previously ignored. So, like with everything in Witcher and in life, it’s not a yes-or-no question. Ciri’s biological sex distinguishes her a bit because there are things about cis women’s bodies which her male guardians are ignorant to, but, as Geralt said, “… and her gender? I would also like to add that pre-pubescent children divided by biological sex are not very dissimilar in strength and physical endurance, anyways. It’s puberty which begins to give men more muscle and women more fat. Or—sorry—their “womanly attributes.” // Source: Lived through puberty.

I see why the witchers were giving Ciri those hormone mushrooms, then, because they would give her more strength and energy to endure the rigorous training, but also essentiallly influence her puberty to be a male one; however, unbeknownst to them, she was already going through her own puberty, it had already hit her. So they went, “whoops, our bad,” and stopped.

Hello!!I want to start off with the fact that i ABSOLUTELY LOVE your art!!The way you draw characters is amazing,you draw them nearly the same as i hc them

I was scrolling through your blog (the art is beautiful please dont ever stop) and i saw some anons complaining and insulting you for drawing some characters (mainly characters from natlan and sumeru) with different shades of skin.While i dont know much about this topic i just wanted to share my opinion.

Sumeru is based off of middle east,the majority of which has tanned skin (but its very mixed from what i know!).Natlan is based off of a lot of places (which is honestly another sign of racism in my opinion)I myself am from Turkey which can count as both middle east AND Europe (even turkish people dont know what we count as).I have a lot of middle eastern friends as well (Iran,Iraq,Sauda Arabia,Syria…) and they are brown or tanned and one of them is white!

i saw a lot of people say that “not every character needs to be black/brown” and i answer this with not every character has to be white.White,brown,black,asian,native american and every other race exists and every race deserves to be respected.No race should be insulted for wanting representation.No race should be seen as outcasts either.Wether that be white or black,no one deserves to feel like they are not fine the way they are.

I myself hc Zhongli as pale as a ghost to indicate that he is a god (as being pale is associated with being a superior being in chinese culture).I hc Xiao as tanned due to him spending all his time,day and night,fighting monsters.I hc Neuvilette has slightly blue-ish skin bc hes the hydro sovereign.I hc as black bc i like him that way.I hc Alhaitham as brown and so many more characters.Nobody would want to play a game in which there is no diversity.Diversity helpes the characters feel more real and gives them character depth.Diversity helps make Teyvat feel more real,like Earth itself.

But anyways this is just my opinion,i would love to learn more and hear everyone’s opinions.And if someone doesnt like your art they should just block you if they dont want to see it🤷‍♀️ Your art is amazing though so please dont mind those buffoons 🙏

And if I can be honest, I wasn't aware of this question of representation and diversity before Genshin Impact. Once, I saw a fanart with someone making a white character black, and in all of my ignorance, I was wondering why (a genuine question). So I asked my friend her thought (because I love hearing her opinions) and she makes me aware about representation in media, and issues they are facing to. And, wow, I learnt a lot ! Maybe it is a bit silly but, I always tend to focus on canon content, and all my HC was around interactions or their behaviour, and I never thought about their body appearance HC. And since I learnt that, my creativity developed a new skill ! So it is only recently I put HC on their physical appearance (like Sethos with dimples KKGEKDJS it ain't that much but it is fun, I guess HC on physical appearance is not my domain)

But it is thanks to Genshin, a game about exploring a whole world with diversity lore in each region, and what representation Hoyoverse used for making their game that I started to be into it. So yes, there is a lot of problem in genshin, making some rep worst. But without this, I wouldn't be able to learn more about SWANA culture with a thread I read on Dehya Nilou Tighnari Faruzan, Japan with Wanderer, Chinese with Yun Jin or recently on Hawai'i with Mualani and even on France United Kingdom with Emilie (i think I also read a thread about GaMing too...?). And what a surprise, I am close to France and UK but I never knew about Emilie's inspiration. Not only on character but also lore, and how some desert name in genshin is also part of culture (I don't remember where I read it tho !! Gosh i wish to reread it again).

I love genshin for its diversity whatever on region or lore but even on gameplay it offers us in our adventure. But I also agree on those who complain about character design ! Not only about representation, but about storytelling in character design (for example, you can't guess Xilonen is someone who forges ; her nails, accessories and hair would be on her way). And it happens that I receive some hate message (on tumblr and twitter. Mostly twitter) saying "this game is not for you, just leave" with some insults that I prefer to not share lol

Searching our lost sibling, tragic lore, wholesome encounter, satisfying gameplay, vivid color landscape, with great characters, ALBEDO ??? Not for me ?! 🤨 My love for genshin is immense. But, I agree on the fact that.. yes. Indeed, I am not the target for genshin character design. I played a lot of gacha game, and it is mostly based on collectioning waifu with big boobs and big ass (you were a great game, Epic Seven...). When I look at hater's account on twitter, there is a pattern : throwaway account, account full of problematic opinion, or full of porn 2d woman with the basic hourglasses morphology big boobs big butt even on characters who are flat. It is undeniable that most of genshin characters are sexualised, and this, for sell them better. And, making them white is one of criteria to sell them better to those type of client 🙂‍↕️

I study sociology (i am a newbie tho, nothing deep) and I can extend this light analyse on what I learn : the success of Genshin, why there is such a contrast between Genshin players and their different profiles, the benefits Hoyoverse do and how difficult it is to satisfy all players (and so sacrifices are made, like characters design). Hey, remember the soulmate au by tiyoin(?) I recently read your post abt idia and Leona reacting to yuu being their mates, but I wanna take it a step further since I saw idias line abt the family curse (this has yandere implications so if it's not your cup of tea please feel free to just ignore, nothing is outright mentioned tho)

What if yuu has a family curse similar to the aishi family in yandere simulator? (It's been years since I touched the game so if the lore changed I'm basing it off of 2018 ish lore, just with my own twist) basically yes, yuu CAN feel emotions, they're just muted and barely there. Given the right conditions (like falling in love or spending time with friends) and/or antidepressants they'll basically be like any other person, without them it's like a less severe version of the aishi women pre-falling in love

So, afab ppl born in yuus family, once falling in love, start losing their sanities and adopt yandere like behavior (stalking, increasing rage and jealousy, willingness to murder, etc) unfortunately this means they usually die young (20s or 30s) how quickly/young they die is based on their willpower (resisting the urges) and when/if they fall in love (so someone falling in love for the first time in their 40s and having insane willpower, caving in 20 years later in their 60s has more luck than a 16 year old falling in love and caving in almost immediately). Unfortunately everyone is a carrier, men carry the gene and can pass it to their daughters, but it only presents in the women/afab ppl, so transfems won't be affected but transmascs will.

What if yuu fell in love already (in their own world) and has just been doing a really REALLY good job at Resisting The Urges™️. Like, sometimes they slip up and cave in to anger or get ridiculously jealous, but they try their hardest to tamp down the feelings. Yuu has sworn off falling in love (again) and has given up their dream of having a big family bc of the curse, they're even distancing themselves from their object of affection in an attempt to "be normal again" at the cost of their own sanity.

So yuu gets transported to twst, and without their darling, they have the chance to be normal again, assuming they can get past the initial panic frenzy. Then the soul bond is revealed and they just go "nope. Not this shit again" and spouts cryptic messages about a family curse and swearing off love. I'm pretty sure most of the boys would feel a bit hurt by that lmao

This is mostly made for idia since his segment is what sparked the idea in the first place, but which characters from most to least likely do you think would try to pursue mc and figure out the truth to leave them alone and try to move on? I personally can't see someone like kalim giving up on both but I think the octatrio would try to look for the truth but be 50/50 on pursuing yuu or dropping them like a hot potato. Idia I think would try to relate to yuu and try to pursue them, but I think he'd probably be a bit put off once yuu starts dropping hints about the curse (he's a weeb so it won't take long for him and maybe Ortho to put 2+2 together and figure out the curse)

so. uh. I got this ask when I first woke up and 1) very happy to hear from you Rose, always lovely to get a new ask and 2) yandere? sim? has lore? I did not think people actually played the game? help. i've fallen and misplaced my life alert. As a rule I don't really write for a Yuu who is just x character from y game/anime (it is in my rules) so while I was at work realizing I might be old I was trying to think of a way to do this that wasn't just yan sim (I wanted something properly gn) and I think I've got something? I am currently beating away the desire to info dump on you about the myth of Sigurd and Brunhilde (i could scream about that for hours oh god oh please i have written an actual au for that but efkjbekjrgbjrthnytrh) So here is the basic idea:

Yuu ran afoul of a witch in their world and was appropriately cursed. Given the myth I was inspired by I don't think Yuu did anything bad, but they still made the witch mad so they got cursed to lose all reason should they ever fall in love.

"You will be thine own destruction!" Cackles the witch and Yuu, who is actually normal unlike trey this person takes a deep breath and resigns themselves to researching a way to minimize the effects and maybe break it? They don't know they thought magic was fake until they thought they were just doing a favor for someone but turns out they pissed off Baba fucking Yaga.

They start to isolate themselves since they notice the curse starting to eat at them when they are around anyone the love; they consider going back to the witch and asking for further clarification but they can't seem to find them anywhere so they take some deep breaths and do their best to just be normal.

When they end up in Twisted Wonderland, and start feeling... weird. And it only gets worse when Crowley speculates that they might have been brought to Twisted Wonderland because they posses a soulbond.

And Yuu immediately freaks out because they don't want to kill anyone.

Now as for your question for who would try to pursue Yuu vs just leave them... well I don't really like writing un reciprocated feelings so I hesitate to say any of the cast would drop Yuu. In my au it isn't possible for soulbonds to not be reciprocated, and they are already sort of seen as a curse by mages so this... complication might not be normal but it isn't unexpected if that makes sense. Which would probably make Yuu swearing off love hurt even worse.

Kalim wouldn't want to abandon Yuu. Not ever, no matter how much of a danger they could be to him. Hell, he's willing to forgive people who are trying to poison him on the off chance they might regret it. But he is the heir of House Al-Asim, and I could see his dad paying someone to take Yuu out to keep his son safe. Something Jamil sees coming from a mile away and has to just keep quiet about. Something I can see Jamil feeling bad about, he might not like Kalim but you didn't ask for anything that happened to you. And yet the Asim's took your life from you anyway.

Have to disagree about the octatrio just a bit. Floyd would be into this. And so would Jade. But especially Floyd, oh hee hee ha ha his soul mate wants to kill him? Say less he is on his way to get his ass eat beat with an engagement ring in hand. Both he and Jade would be a little disappointed when the curse is broken and you aren't actively trying to kill him anymore... maybe you could try and poison him huh? Like old times?

I wrote 20 paper pages of soulbond au stuff for Azul so I will try to be brief here but... I don't think this situation would be one that made him try to break the bond. He has... complicated feelings about soulbonds already. If anything I could see him thinking he deserves this.

Now Idia. He's complicated. Pre-overblot he has given up on the concept of breaking his own curse, and I could see him feeling the same way about yours. Ortho on the other hand... even before he gets his soul he wants to help. After the overblot I can see Idia pursuing Yuu determined to find the truth and save them. Not that he wouldn't interact with them before that, he's a bit nihilistic so I can see him just making a bunch of jokes about the situation or promising to let Yuu kill him "after this next round." Or just straight up asking them to when he has to hit pity in one of his gachas. It's just cringe enough that it snaps Yuu out of the curse fog for long enough for the two of them to be normal around each other. And by normal I mean incredibly awkward
