I had a dream tonight about MDZS, where WWX and the group had to go on a hunt, travel for days, camp in the forest, and they were generally tired but determined.
It was somewhere after WWX's identity reveal, but before final showdown against JGY, so while everyone was there, all sect leaders, nobody trusted WWX.
But still, WWX woke up at night, lying on the hard forest floor, with pebbles and twigs poking his side, but warm. So warm and feeling safe and protected because... Jiang Cheng was hugging him in the sleep. Because no matter what, Jiang Cheng missed his brother and he just loves him so much.
Jiang Cheng was asleep through it and Wei Wuxian went back to sleep, carefully as not to wake him, because obviously JC would not want to hug him anymore if he were awake.
It was a bittersweet dream, but I'm glad I had it.

Sometimes I don’t understand why a fandom has decided to create a popular side ship out of whole cloth and like two onscreen interactions (sorry xicheng shippers).
But I absolutely respect the thought process behind seeing scorpion king, the poorest of meow meows, and his whole….deal with zhao jing and simply giving him a different less evil old man to work out his freudian issues on. You can take the xie-er out of his fucked up sugar daddy relationship but you can’t take the daddy kink out of the xie-er, etc.
xie wang/ye baiyi just makes sense really.

Apparently I can meet my goal of roughly 400,000 words in 6 months if I just somehow write at least 2,200 words a day ghbjh... Almost 2,500 today... huzzah...
#Definitely not going to be able to stick with it just due to like... being realistic about my energy levels and etc. ESPECIALLY as we#enter the Evil Summer and it becomes hot all the time. But... one can attempt.. at least...#I'm also a very slow writer since I tend to re-read and edit while I write. and only move onto the next section once what I'm writing#seems okay. Which is easy for visual novel type stuff. since ''sections'' of a conversation are more clearly marked (like if you#have a menu option with 5 different dialogue choices. finish the character's response for choice 1 before moving onto 2. etc.)#Especially since when I'm done with a whole quest I always follow it up by playing through it and picking every option and making sure it#actually all works okay and etc. So I am already going to see it all a second time. Then I can go back and reorder a few words or remove#certain sentences that don't sound natural when I read them out loud (I always read it all outloud to myself since it is... just peple#talking.. it should sound like natural dialogue in their voice. etc). But my ''first draft'' is kind of not as first drafty since I pause t#edit a lot as I go along. So it also takes longer probably than it would take other people who I think treat a first draft as more#of a loose guideline or something. AANYWAY...#80F in my bedroom right now again... huzzah... I did end up finishing and recording that sims build video before the heat wave (or is#it really a heat wave if it's just summer..?? lol) came in.. but now... augh.. the editing... plus the costume photos and all else... Much#to do as always.. Often such a long todo list.. a giant scroll hung upon the walls of the evil hermit wizard tower..#Anyhow.. I hope I can finish getting ready for bed early in time to reward myself with a game of tripeaks solitaire whilst I snack on#cheddar cheese and some of those preserved artichokes in a jar. hrgm... I actually have nasturtiums (ultimate best flower) on the#deck again this year but I had to move them all into a corner today because the leaves were getting burnt by the sun lol.. Also am now more#cautiously weaving through social media to ignore all dragon age news. NOT bc of spoilers (I actually love spoilers/literally never play#any game until there's full guides on it I can read to plan my entire playthrough based on knowing exactly what I want to happen lol + mods#and etc.) but just because I'm so busy with my ownprojects I simply do not have the brainspace to dedicate... Yes I love to think#about elves and fictional universe lore. but no.. I pretend I do not see it. Does not exist to me actually. ghgj.. OHH also took som#cool pictures of flowers in the garden section of a store and I wanted to do like.. character designs based on the colors of the flowers o#something. but that might just be another unnecessary project to add to the pile.. I want to commit to the daunting task of dyeing my#hair again some time.. hrm.. this is all of the updates I can think of. As if a bunch of random tags make up for never posting anything for#weeks on end lol.. alas.. too warm to think properly I suppose.. .. I neeeeeed a long lost relative to leave me some million dollar#estate in their will so I can have the resources to move to a colder climate or something ..augh#.. but for now.. I shall toil away in my little wizard tower trying to write 2000 something words a day whilst sweating and such ghbj

i stand by my conviction that the best way to read tged is by stopping in ch 401 but i do have a rant concerning ch 402 that is locked and loaded for posting and i don't know if i should wait for today's chapter to drop so you guys have the full context or if i should pretend it isn't happening and i'm talking about a hypothetical ending that definitely didn't happen

@heartofstanding tagged me in this meme months ago and unfortunately it took me this long to get to it because I had a mild crisis over how long it's been since I've read a novel, let alone one that I loved 😅 so this is nine of my favourite novels (not books, because if I included manga/short stories/comics/etc this would be giant)
Tumblr media
0The Picture of Dorian Gray -- Oscar Wilde// Pyrrhus-- Mark Merlis//The Scarecrow--Ronald Hugh Morrieson//Unnatural History--Kate Osman//Tunnels of Blood--Darren Shan//The Coffin Dancer--Jeffery Deaver//Hero--Perry Moore//Frankenstein--Mary Shelley//One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest-- Ken Kasey
#TPODG I feel like is obvious. But a genuinely hilarious book that is also poignant and tragic and so /so/ compelling#The more work you put into it the more you get out of it and I get so sad every time I see people#not wanting to look deeper than what's beyond the surface#Pyrrhus gets the extremely high honour of Greek Myth Retelling That is Actually Good#it's less about the Trojan War and more about the journey there set in the 1980s gay scene#the cursed spot that gets Philoctetes abandoned is an effective allegory right until the moment it isn't an allegory at all#and you should see the gut punch coming but somehow you don't#The Scarecrow is my Token Kiwi Representation and it's also the one that got me into the genre I now write almost exclusively#reading it feels like watching a cheesy low budget slasher that accidentally says some really interesting things about sexism and misogyny#(I say accidentally because it is the 20s and my tutor very loudly hated this book for being sexist)#(and I both totally agree and disagree because Prue is the prototypical final girl and needs an adaptation that does her justice)#Also the story of this novel's publication is freaking hilarious and why I will only write under a pseudonym because I would be next#Unnatural History is an exact blueprint of what I love about sci-fi done well in the way we've only very recently started to see on screen#and I hate that the show of Doctor Who rarely if ever reaches this level#Tunnels of Blood is my favourite of the Darren Shan Saga but really is just a stand in for the entire series#yes it's a kids series but it's a kid series that got me into horror and surrealism#and delivers the most effective and heartbreaking plot twist that not even Hannibal pulled off as well#The Coffin Dancer is just some damn good crime fiction and I wish Jeffery Deaver wasn't so slept on#(yes I know The Bone Collector got an adaptation but The Bone Collector isn't even in the top ten of the Lincoln Rhyme series)#unfortunately Deaver's strongest point is his use of point of view#but he still manages to get the twist to be shocking (and Coffin Dancer is the best example of it) in a way that other media fails at#Hero is about a gay disabled teen with superpowers and somehow tumblr does not know about it#It is such a fun riff on superheroes while also being genuinely sweet and touching and sad#It was meant to get a tv show but the writer passed so it got stuck in production hell :(#Frankenstein is Frankenstein. It's just good on like every level. Victor is my problematic fave. I will take no criticism.#I am however on my knees hoping the Guillermo Del Toro adaptation finally gets it right#one flew over the cuckoo's nest means so much to me but no one ever talks about it beyond the Ratched and Mcmurphy stuff#who are the least interesting characters to me. And I find the debate about the sexism ignores that the novel is about the structural abuse#of the mentally ill

Okay I just had a dream where some sort of fae humanoid creature was trying to shape me into.... something? By having me witness and act in horrors???
It was a group of us humans and a group of fae and one of the people with me said they found something in thier grandma's collection that was like. A powder? But it turned out to be iron based and we used it in the water on the floor to sever and protect all the other people who'd been caught up in this horrible dreamlike situation. The problem with that, though, is I still wanted to know why. Why the hell this Elias Bouchard from Magnus Archives talking all seeing bitch had been so set on just giving me enough information about the scenes that had been set up to solve them myself but at great fucking cost.
Anyway while all the other fae were burning and retreating back behind a dark souls fog wall this fucker turns back and, to my utter surprise and delight, starts answering my questions while walking around in the iron tainted water like its nothing. So not fae then. Or maybe far too powerful for a diluted powder to affect? Either way it was like. Huh. This bitch really was going and then stayed just because I asked/he chose to. Ite. Lemme just re-evaluate real quick.
But yeah, they were trying to.... make an apprentice? But that wasn't the right word. A follower? They were making something, but it needed to be with a willing participant. Told me about failed attempts, about how after all the simulations the previous people had passed they'd frozen like deer in the headlights when a real creature with ill intent came at them. I was looking at their petrified remains when he/they said all this, so the evidence was there. I believed them.
I mentioned it being ridiculous that after experiencing what I'd just gone through and surviving that the people would choke Then of all times.
That's when they decided walk up behind me and show themselves as a Creature Of Ill Intent, still vaguely humanoid but with no discernable features other than a mouth and eyes. Too many eyes, all looking at me far too intently before stepping even closer, pressing me back into the statue-like corpse of someone who came before me and failed. It's saying something about fear responses, maybe how they're predictable?
Anyway yeah that's when they/it proceed to try and scare me by showing off it's sharp teeth, scraping them over my shoulder while evil monologing and uh. Long story short it had The Opposite Effect of what they were intending and I think I may have freaked out a creature of nightmares so much it made me wake up
Edit: I think it was the fear of being late for work that attracted the creatures that fed on fear so like. Go Capitalism I guess

I'm aware Liu Qingge is hilariously infuriated all the time, but just to be genuine for a moment, he's the only one reacting appropriately for the situation and the information that he has.
Really, Liu Qingge is the one who should be most exasperated, frustrated, and confused. He's only paying with half a deck, and he's doing very admirably, more honourable than most and efficiently to boot.

when i was a kid i really resented the fact that my mom kept forcing us to check out nonfiction books alongside our fantasy novels in order to "broaden our minds" and basically ensure we were learning Real Factsies(tm), but now that i'm older, if i don't go off and learn some Real Factsies(tm) every so often, then i'll end up finding my fictions dull and uninspired
#i guess i just also hated how kids' nonfiction tended to present itself. unless they were like those slim encyclopedias#with all the sleek pictures n glossy pages of diagrams n shit#bc i remember reading a nonfiction book abt seahorses for adults called 'poseidon's steed' in like fifth grade and loving it#adult nonfiction books (in my limited experience) tends to read more like storytelling except everything is real and has citations#also now that i'm an Adult(tm) with More Life Experience(tm)(tm) (this is a cue for my older mutuals to laugh at my precociousness or w/e)#i find it easier to connect to the text-- in this case a book abt a guy called paul otlet n his contributions to information science#which is a thing i am Very Much interested in bc the internet has spoiled me with its indexing and yet i love analog information#also it was right next to two volumes from the 60s detailing various historical book burnings#and indeed the intro talked abt how this man's life's work was handily destroyed by the nazis who thought he was cataloguing garbage#learning abt all the lil guys in the 20th century who fuckin loved organizing information n bitched abt there being information overload#they are So Real they would have looked at the modern internet n gone 'this is too much make wikipedia the main page'#花話#anyway i doubt i'd have appreciated reading so much had i not read fiction so avidly growing up#and i rebuke the idea that the fantasy novels taught me nothing at all bc stories teach us abt being people#and demonstrate experience better than a more academic n factual analysis/write-up or w/e#yes i do love to learn abt philosophy in its like. rigorous academic state or form or w/e.#but that's diff from seeing it in practice in the real world or in people's stories n how it Affects Things

Second-hand Lore
A thing that a bit fascinates me is media that we know not directly but from secondary sources that reference them. Growing up in the UK I had never seen Gilligan's Island (still haven't) but I learned the names of characters and the gist of the plot (they're on an island and keep not escaping it, apparently) from other US TV shows that did get shown over here and for which the assumed audience was someone who would understand these references to the not-actually-mythical TV show about some people on an island.
It's like that thing in The Name Of The Rose with the lost work of Whoever-It-Was and what other people had said about it allowing Sean Connery to recognise the book when he saw it. Because he hadn't personally seen Gilligan's Island, but he's seen things made by people who had, so he knew the gist of it.
