Chapter 17. The Cowardâs Weapon!
Daring Do was pleasantly surprised at just how good her half brother Blendin was at specimen preparation. Â There was another surprise for her too.
Friend spent much of her time crooning to her Eagle eggs. Â She did frequently leave her nest and lend her green magic to the task, usually greatly simplifying the work. Â It was the greatest assistance at particularly difficult or delicate times in the preparation of the failed nymphs that she had loved so dearly and watched over for so many centuries.
Almost any time that they took a break from the arduous task before them, Friend would leave the eggs and nest protected by a nearly invisible glow of green magic. Â She would take a place beside Daring Do and purr/croon softly. Â Daring Do found real rest and comfort in the love that Friend shared with her. Â She often rested her head against the changelingâs horn and shared thought and memory.
It was from that sharing that she learned something surprising about Friend. When her hive was attacked by war equipped and battle ready unicorns, Friend defended the hiveâs precious eggs. Â
She slaughtered ten of the enemy, literally tearing them to pieces in the defense of those eggs. Â When her shared hive mind felt the Queen die, she went briefly berserk. Â Four of the ten attacking unicorns that she killed fell in those few moments.
It was duty and love for the eggs that she tended that brought her back to something resembling sanity. Â Taking all of the eggs that she could carry, she fled into the night.
The world outside of the hive was a strange and confusing place at first. Â By luck alone, she found a long disused road that led to the mountains. Â She did the best that she could but it was not enough. Â One by one, she felt the spark of returned love die out of each of the eggs. Â Her heart was torn asunder by the loss.
Daring Do knew the rest of the story. Â What she did not know was the sheer depth of feeling that Friend had developed for her. Â She meant it when she said that Daring Do was Matunen, Â Hive Queen, in the ancient tongue of Early Middle Equestrian.
Friend was totally contented for the first time in ages. Â That in no way interfered with any whit of her egg tending.
Blendin saw his half sisterâs serene relaxation around Friend and was glad. The Apprentice Librarian of the Great Library in him was glad too. Â He was learning things about conservation of irreplaceable delicate artifacts and relics that would apply to his work in the Great Library. Â
Once everything was ready, he stared at the results of their work in wonder. Â He had not only helped to prepare the whole foundation for the creation of an entire intelligent species, he had it and all of his half sisterâs notes cataloged for the Great Library!
Together, they sent a note of their progress to the Empress.
The door, upon opening, showed the Empress, Grata, and Hisst, the Right Wing of the Imperial Throne. Â The hallway was blocked by heavily armed Imperial Guards in full battle armor.
Daring Do was about to ask if such precautions were necessary when a loud, harsh voice from up the hallway demanded, âThis is all Blasphemous!  Even if it were the truth and showed our  ancient roots, it would still be blasphemy!  The Holy Legends declare that Faith alone is sufficient and seeking truth beyond its holy pages undermines Faith!
âWhatever is here must be destroyed!â
The Empress responded, âWhat is about to be destroyed is YOU, Krapper! Â You have fifteen seconds to be around the curve and out of OUR sight before I order my troops to open fire!â
âYou would not dare!â
âNine seconds left, Krapper.â
There was a clatter of claws on stone as the speaker retreated!
The Empress drew a deep breath, her crest showing disgust. Â âThe entire lot of First Creation Idiots want to destroy the only real history that our kind has.â
Friend spoke up, âYour Majesty, they are wrong. Â This I/we know. Â Before I/we loved the eggs that became the nymphs of your kind, I/we saw changelings. Â I/we saw unicorns. Â I/we saw Eagles. I/we saw pegassi.
âI/we helped matunen Daring Do and brother Blendin to be sure that these failed nymphs truly show how I/we loved the eggs that became the nymphs that are your kind.â
The Empress, crest showing deep thought, began tracing the development of her kind. Â She was reading the placards set by each step of the way. Looking over to the true mother of her whole species, she asked, âWhy did you go from pony to big cat for our hindquarters?â
Friend crowded over to point as she spoke. Â âNot all big cat. Â See how these bones go? Â That is from the pegassus. Â The head was carnivore, Eagle. The hindquarters had to eat meat too or fail. Â I/we did see a lion in mountains once, close enough to feel its insides by loving it. Â I/we used what I/we knew.â
Grata, crest rippling in laughter, exclaimed, âWe are so lucky that she didnât see a bear!â
After the fit of laughter passed around the room, the Empress asked, âHow will this all be presented, Doctor Do?â
Daring Do sketched rapidly. Â âThe case, to be portable must be of stout woodwork. Â The front viewing window should be made of glass that has been spell strengthened like a Magic Net mirror.â
The Empress nodded, crest showing some concern. Â âYou mentioned not risking the real relics and that is a good idea. Â
âWe have General Iron Hooves here with some of his munitions experts. Â The team that they are consulting with is known to you, though we know that you do not like them much.
âV.I.L.E. Is here. Â They have sent Carmen Pondiego, Baron Von Nighthoof, Marehem Skadefryd, and Kiros Asbhy. Â I understand that they have also got a number of Agents here too.â
Crest smiling, the Empress went on, âI was warned to be sure that I still have both mandibles of my beak after dealing with them. Â However, they will be absolutely honest with family.
âThey have several missions. Â One is being worked on now with General Ironhooves and his aides. Â Another is to be the agency for creating your cases and making the copies for display. Â I will be ordering twenty sets.â
Daring Do, looking doubtful, did agree, âI have to admit that when it comes to museum quality duplication, Momâs company is unexcelled.â Â
An all too familiar voice caroled from the doorway, âSo sweet to hear you actually say something nice about my company! Â Of course we are honest! Â V.I.L.E. has never been caught or proved to be guilty of ANY crime at all!
âSuspicions? Â Poof! Â Suspicion and a cup of tea will get you anything from a nice Bergamont to bag of Luptonâs Worst!
Carmen Pondiego strutted into the room in her trademark porkpie hat and fire engine red dress. Â She called over her shoulder, âGeneral, Dear, would you please come in and see for yourself what my daughter found that is causing all this mess?â
General Ironhooves entered the door. Â He was in his simple field uniform.
He tipped his Campaign Hat to the Empress and her Wings. Â He approached the study tables, examining the relics with care. Â He picked up Daring Doâs voluminous field notes and sketches, seeming to leaf through them, except that once in a while he stopped long enough to separate pages that stuck together.
He put down the books and turned to the Empress. Â âMa'am, you have chosen your battlefield perfectly. Better, you have the enemy in the sights of your artillery.
âI hope that it does not come to armed conflict, but if it does, after consulting with Carmen here, I think that you will have a LOT of surprises for them!â
Daring Do managed to look skeptical. Â âOnly them?â
Before Carmen could snark back, Marehem wandered in, right past the security detail.  He grinned.  âHelps to be a misfortune changel âŚâ
His eyes bugged out. Â It was the first time that Daring Do could remember that her uncle Marehem was caught totally off guard!
âAn Egg-tender, HERE? Â How did that happen? Â How can she live without a hive?â
Friend looked up from serenely turning the eggs in the nest. Â She smiled as she said, âMatunen Daring Do.â
Uncle M stopped like heâd hit a brick wall headfirst. Â âAdora, Matunen? Â A queen?â
The Empress nodded, crest rippling amusement. Â âIt hit us like that too, when we realized that Friend is OVER two thousand years old. Â She was the sole survivor of a destroyed hive.
âTending eggs kept her sane. Â She is the Mother who loved an unstable and fatal hybridization into becoming our strong race. Â I gather that for her, loving means something other than a simple feeling.â
Marehem got it together to say, âIt sure does. Â The eggs a queen lays are sort of neutral. Â They will develop as random kinds of changelings. Â Give them to an Egg-tender and tell her how many of which sort, worker, other egg-tenders, drones, even a queen, and that is what you will get. Their love is a very complex magic that no other kind can do.â
Daring Do, eyes twinkling, suggested, âMake the order for V.I.L.E. twenty one copies. Â We will donate one to the Nightmare Wars Collection of the Royal Museum!â
General Ironhooves grinned hugely. Â âYou really want to shaft those First Creationists, donât you?â
Daring Do simply said, âYes. Â They defile and deny the history that I have devoted my life to.â
Carmen pointed to the work tables and said, âWill you take a real compliment from your mother, Adora? Â This, notes, restorations, preparation and all is a fantastic piece of work.
V.I.L.E. will duplicate it with the greatest of care. Â With your permission, we will keep a copy for our own private museum.â
Mutely, Daring Do nodded.
She saw Uncle M talking to a Magic Net mirror and turning it to show everything.
Carmen pointed to an especially fragile relic and said, âBe especially careful of this one, Baron.â
One by one, the laboriously prepared relics, notes and all quietly vanished. General Ironhooves simply noted, âHandy trick, that!â
Daring Do, Friend, with her nest, and Blendin were brought to a large suite with an open airy feeling. Â One Gryphon port was open enough for the Eagles to get in and out but not Gryphons. Â The rooms were swarmed with Eagles.
Friend immediately shared that soft green magic of hers to include all of the waiting Eagles. Â The way that they crowded close about the nest, it was clear that they had been waiting for Friendâs loving magic. Â Several shuffled aside and one reached out a beak and snagged Daring Doâs tunic, making her join or get a torn tunic. Â She joined the Eagles in luxuriating in the literal glow of Friendâs shared love.
After a few days of resting up, Rahak came by. Â Crest at attention, he requested, âDoctor Do, master Blendin, would you come please? Â The display copies are ready for examination.â
They followed the Wing Commander back down to the workroom. Â There were twenty one large cases of fine solid woodwork, each faced by stout glass armored by a spell to the toughness of steel. Â The contents were beautifully displayed to make the whole progression from hippogriff to Gryphon utterly clear. Â Each item of the display had its explanatory placard.
Neatly done on each placard was an exact copy of a reference to the actual original Legend Document, with translation. After that part was a clear, simple note explaining the item.
Central to the whole display was Daring Doâs detailed sketch of the remains of the failed nymphs in place, as they were found.
The whole thing had such an impact that Daring Doâs breath drew in, in a way that she had heard so many times as a child riding her motherâs back in a knapsack, when her mother saw some beautiful thing that she was about to steal.
Turning to an equally awestruck Blendin, Daring Do said, âTell Carmen that this is the best display preparation that I have ever seen.â
âThank you, dear,â said a familiar voice. Â A khaki colored unicorn mare in a form fitting fire engine red dress stepped out of the shadows. Â Daring Do was shocked to see bags under her eyes.
Carmen Pondiego told her, âThe General is sleeping now. Â I have been working along with every agent that I have available. Â I cannot tell you what we have been doing. Â Imperial Security is involved. Â I only hope that it has been enough to prevent the war.â
Rahak suggested, âLet us all prepare for this eveningâs banquet. Â That is when you will make your presentation, Doctor Do.â
Daring Do was looking around the Imperial Banquet Hall, at the many war banners that fluttered in the light breeze. Â There were also the banners of the provinces of the Empire. Â The wood and stonework was outstanding for its solidity and rich carving.
Perched on every place that they could find claw room were hundreds of Eagles, looking expectantly at Friend. Her nest had been placed conveniently close to Daring Doâs place.
The dining tables were all set so that every diner could see the big glass fronted case with its display. There were two  small books by each place.
One was a copy of the original document of the Legends, written some time shortly before 54 Post Nightmare Wars. Â It had an exact copy of the document itself, a line by line literal translation and a third line in modern Gryphon with notes to explain the meaning of idioms used when the original was written. Â No commentaries. Â No editing. Â Only a foreword explaining that this was a true copy of the Legends that they all revered and tried to follow. Â Commentaries were dispensed with in the hope that the reader could understand what the words said and form their own opinions based on solid fact.
It was signed and sealed by the Empress herself.
The other small book contained copies of Daring Doâs expedition notes and sketches that were relevant to the display showing the origin of their species.
The First Created believers started to scream, âBlasphemy!â
The Empress herself cut them off. Â âSilence, Krapper! Â These are the Legends that you CLAIM to revere!â
âYou have left out the rich and ancient commentaries!â
Her crest rippling with laughter, the Empress exclaimed, âAncient? Krapper, the FIRST commentary was inserted into a small book like this only thirty five years ago! Â It had a note that it WAS NOT HOLY WRIT, only opinion. Â That note was removed and further commentaries added. More than half of the mass of your book has been added in just the last five years!
âIt must be wonderful to be able to write up whatever you please, insert it into the next edition of your book and have it called HOLY WRIT!â
âOur Book is the true Law! Â Holy Word is higher than mere secular law!â
âNO, Krapper! Â That is direct sedition! Â Guards! Â Stand behind Krapper! Â If he utters one more word of sedition, cut his wing tendons at once. Â He will be given the LONG DROP at sunrise for the crime.â
The Empress paused for effect and added, âNow, we have a banquet laid before us. Â Let not Krapperâs ill manners spoil your appetite. Â After we have eaten, we will hear from Doctor Daring Do, whose actual facts, well documented and proven may provide you with much food for thought.â
The server placed a plate in front of Daring Do, commenting, âI hope that we got it to your taste. Â It is a sauced alfalfa steak. Â We donât eat such fare, so we are not much used to cooking it.â
Daring Do replied with a smile, âI am sure that it will be fine. Â You have been doing well the last few days.â
She cut a bite and began to chew. Â Numbness spread from her mouth. Â She gasped and could draw no air. Â Her vision was fading slowly.
She heard, âThe Blasphemer has been struck down! Â Any means to strike at blasphemy is honorable, the Holy Writ is clear!â
The voice of the Empress cried, âPoison is the Cowardâs Weapon! Â Seize them! Â Do not wait for the Long Drop! Â Kill them now!â
The voice of Friend cut across the fading din, âNo!  Matunen still has love.  I/we need them!  They will wish for your long drop!  I/we promise âŚâ
Then no sight.  No sound.  No touch.  No taste.  Nothing âŚ

Taylor Swiftâs Current Form of Hell
Some thoughts considering Taylorâs current situation. Feedback is welcome (especially if it can be added to the analysis!), but please donât @ me to argue that sheâs a bully or a bitch. I will eat you.Â
Firstly, letâs talk about age. Taylor is 29. Scott and Kim are 38, Kanye is 42. Famous was released in 2016, when Taylor was 26 and Kanye 39. So, not only was it released without her permission, not only was she filmed without her permission, not only did it defame her, not only was it implying sexual promiscuity in return for fame, not only was it entirely beyond the bounds of anything she wouldâve agreed to regardless of Kimâs âproofâ, she was 26. Let that sink in. There is more than a decade between her and Kanye - think about someone a decade older that you (a cousin, uncle or friend) and imagine how you would react (me, Iâd go all Tangled on them, and hit them in the face with a saucepan; and thatâs my calm reaction). Then remember how you were at 19 - considering that, in 2009, when Kanye said âimma let you finish BUTâ she was 19. Fast forward a little to 2016, and Kanye has 2 children, a wife and an established music career. He should be the elder, the one that understands the industry, the one that works with RESPECT. Taylor is only just older than his second youngest sister-in-law - and you best believe that if something like this happened to Kendall, Kanye would be coming after them. But this âfeudâ was deemed appropriate, Famous was deemed funnyâ. Scooter and Justin Bieber and various radio hosts etc have decided that all this is ânot a big dealâ. But there we were, Taylor was 26 and being TAGGED by people a decade older than her in this revenge porn horridness. Is it because we now think itâs okay to be horrible to white girls? Is that it? Is it because sheâs American? She certainly isnât a Trump fan, so we can rule that out. Maybe itâs because Kanye was threatened - maybe itâs because he was made to apologise by Queen B and heâs been looking to reassert his masculinity ever since. Maybe itâs his own past, insecurities, problems. But that in no means makes it okay; nor does it condone the behaviour of his wife and associates like Scooter. Hence, we have defamation, revenge porn and cyber bullying, all of which started when Taylor Swift, pop princess supreme, was 19, 26 and now 29.
One of the people who brought this 2016 pain about, now owns the rights to her music. Sounds a bit iffy (it still has her name on it! you cry), but letâs think about this legally. This means that if Taylor wants to work with, rerelease, remix or reconsider any of HER prior works, she has to a) work with Scooter, b) have the changes approved by Scooter and c) give a portion of the profits to Scooter. And yes, kiddies, that means concerts too. Performing her music, at her concerts, for her fans, is giving her abuser a profit. Imagine having to do that with a high school bully, or say, prior boss that you never really liked, with a report or a paper. Objectively these things are worth nothing, but you did the majority of the work; despite this, itâs technically part of their group or company, so itâs theirs too. Itâs like sharing custody of your child with an abusive and absent ex. Except, that child is worth a literal fortune and took 14 years to create; and youâre well aware that your ex will completely abuse their side of the contract for their own amusement. Furthermore, while sheâs sharing those rights, we have to remember that Taylor has no legal recourse - he owns the masters by CONTRACT, that she no doubt signed at one point or another. Now while I have things to say about the lawyers that advised her to sign that contract, please remember that she was just 14 when she entered the industry and that a human female brain does not fully develop until at least 23 (men are develop by 27 but this is about Taylor so Iâll refrain from making that joke today). Business savvy she might be now, but that comes with experience and practice and a good team. People who are good at their job, understand your vision and you trust entirely are hard to find; especially when your vocation is as all encompassing as Taylorâs must be. Perhaps there was a mistake there, perhaps she shouldnât have signed the contract; but hindsight is 20/20, and perhaps blaming Taylor isnât the most progressive thing to do. What is both interesting and considerably more gross, is that Taylor was offered a chance to, quote, âearn backâ her masters - not only is this bribery, itâs an attempt to further abuse and power over one of the biggest earners in todayâs music industry. With such a power over her, there is no way that Big Machine will ever willingly let her go - perhaps theyâd enter into a never-ending negotiation; for every album she produces (which would belong to Big Machine), she earns back a prior album that belonged to Big Machine. Sounds fabulous and abusive, doesnât it? If you are so naive as to think that she was not a guiding factor on the purchase of Big Machine, please reconsider your brain. No one wants to buy the cow if you can get the milk for free - which essentially is what Scooter did, plus now he gets to kick the cow and the calf if and when he wants to. Lovely, right? However, please consider that in signing any new contact under this offer, one can see definite similarities with Keshaâs situation, though the abuse hopefully be only mental and emotional. Taylor has made an incredibly hard and painful choice; she could leave her legacy behind in favour of happier life, or continue with her legacy and âearn it backâ and be generally miserable. This desire to make Taylor âsubmitâ is misogynistic, horrible and really really gross. Hence we can conclude that not only has she been abused, bullied and used, we may now note that she has no way of âwinningâ this argument - in that she may never get her masters back without paying a very serious life consequence.
Taylor has posted a 2 paragraph statement on Tumblr. (Fun reminder - Iâm not even halfway done and Iâve written a longer defence that she did.) She is being called attention seeking (âturning the the public has worked for her beforeâ - what my local FM radio told me), bullying, gaslighting etc etc. which are all things weâve heard about before in relation to her. Certainly, Taylor, like other people in the media spotlight, has done things that people donât approve of or deem problematic (because she, like all others, is just a person) but this by no means should overshadow her present situation. You donât need to be a Taylor fan to consider this issue problematic; the facts alone are indicative enough. There is no element of like, love, favouritism or adoration that even needs to be considered here. Taylor is being judged, abused and publicly bullied as she dared to speak her mind and feelings about her own works. If Scooter had his way, we would revert to simply calling her hysterical, and strip her of all capacity to reason - god forbid a woman in the music industry be of sane mind and conviction. Despite this, we have to note that these events, this treatment, these discussions have led to one of the most prominent and successful women of the 21st century retreating from public, and posting her defence, in her own words, on TUMBLR, which is widely considered a niche site when compared to say Twitter or Instagram. Hence, we must ask ourselves, why would Taylor choose Tumblr? She has been so widely supported on Instagram and Twitter in the past. Maybe this is where she feels supported and like she is least chance to be attacked; what does that tell you about her headspace? Maybe itâs where she sees the least tagging, comments of ownership, masters related from people who are meant to be her colleagues - cyber bullying is, effectively, so harmful because it can truly follow you anywhere. Imagine the outrage if this had been done to Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes. But it wouldnât happen to them - not because producers and owners are incapable, but because they do not deem in necessary for them to need to show who the âalphaâ is. But having Taylor as the more powerful, pervasive person seems to offend many men to the core. Hence, maybe Taylor posted it is simply for herself, knowing it would be unedited and seen by people who might sympathise without yarns of criticism that related to the anatomy between her legs. Certainly, I know I would want to have my say for my own peace of mind as well as for my mental health - and Iâm just a law student with 7 followers. How does someone so wildly popular feel so unsafe in the social media sphere? This. This bs is why.Â
So why are we just hearing about all this now? Well thatâs just it; Taylor. She has brought this to the public attention. She is not so naive as to think that there would be no backlash - sheâs been the victim of that too many times. Taylor, despite knowing all of this, despite standing alone, despite the lack of media, social media, peer and male support, has said something. She has expressed her thoughts and feelings, knowing she would be labelled unstable and narcissistic - because that is the fastest way to depreciate and devalue anything legitimate or threatening that comes from a woman or girl. Taylor has, in a sense, reported her abuse; except she reported it to the public. She has been bullied, cyber bullied, defamed, indicted, disliked and gaslighted. In her position, many would be anxious, depressed, scared, paranoid, running crying to their parents (cough me cough). Instead, she has made a rational, intelligent and self-caring decision that led to a well written statement, conveying her feelings in a timely and eloquent manner. She is effectively telling us that Times Up, and itâs coming for the music industry. As always, she has handled this in the most dignified and elegant of ways, while Scooter and his supporters seem to be borderline aroused at the pain theyâre inflicting. How anyone can get their kicks out of another persons pain will always be beyond me, though that seems to be the way women are accustomed to men acting. Taylor is, as she has often been, at the forefront of changing social issues and bearing the brunt of the backlash in the public eye. I hope that there are other young women and young artists that are watching and listening - she might very well break the glass ceiling - again.Â
Taylor has gone through an immense amount of pain throughout her music career - sheâs been labelled an attention, money and boyfriend seeking crybaby for over a decade. The behaviour of men in the music industry is neither appropriate or acceptable. I do not accept it - we, the public, cannot accept it.Â
Although I know it is of little help, I will no longer be listening to or streaming Taylorâs old work in an effort to support her. I will also not be streaming or purchasing any other Big Machine productions until her work is returned to her. I will also be signing this petition in her favour. Please consider doing the same - Katy Perry already did.Â
I hope Taylor is okay, I hope she is caring for herself, I hope there is some legal action she can take. I hope Lover is wildly successful and her heart is full. Remember that this is not about receipts or feuds or drama. This is about the cruel and unfair treatment of a woman in the music industry and the escalation of that when it became public information. This is about changing the conversation and changing the working conditions. This is for more than just Taylor; this is part changing a toxic culture, where cyberbulling and revenge porn and spiteful purchases for âfunziesâ (and the torment of others) is appropriate, provided it is against a woman. Whatever you might say or think of her, this is an example of injustices that occur to women everywhere and everyday. We have proven only one thing with these injustices, and that is that you can kick Taylor Swift down are hard as you can - she has discovered feminism and sheâs going to get back up. She might not be perfect, she might not be your favourite, but she isnât a push over. Taylor Swift is taking up space and taking no shit, and I am here for it.Â

Top Five - Fictional Heroines
Todayâs Tumblr post comes from direct inspiration from the YouTube channel of Phoenician Rises! This channel is created by my lovely cousin, Alexis Johnson, and it is an inspirational channel for all creatives! I would highly recommend anyone, not just creatives, to check out her blog as youâll find encouragement to get through the daily grind!Â
In her video #TopFive - Fictional Heroines she lays out who are her top favorite ladies in all of fiction and why. She excludes the superhero genre just to make the choosing a little easier, but sheâll get to her favorites in those too in another video, so check back for that one!
As part of the challenge, Iâm going to list my top 5 favorite ladies too, and I did a sketch/art piece for each. These arenât ranked even though Iâm listing them in an order, but my number one is most definitely my number one.Â
5. Sansa Stark
âMy skin has turned to porcelain, to ivory, to steel...â
My Lady of Winterfell! I loved her character before it was cool, pretty much almost since the beginning. Undoubtedly she had the spoiled nature of a child who had grown up in safe, prosperous environment of Winterfell, and who spent an unhealthy amounts of time in her make believe wonderland at first. I didnât think this counted against her by any means, and since then she has proven what she is truly made of. She is seen as weak in the eyes of many because she is a proper lady who does what she is told, but where others see weakness I see strength. I think this has been proven over and over again as Sansa Stark has been tasked to endure terrible things, and no only survive, but thrive in her survival. Identity is such a strong theme in George R.R. Martinâs books, and I see Sansa Starkâs endurance to maintain her identity, even when she literally has to become someone else, is truly exemplary. I love how despite her penchants for songs of knights and ladies, she doesnât falter when confronted with the truth. She looks into the eyes of the ugliness and darkness, to not only face it, but often times look beyond it. This is what she tries to do when she becomes Tyrion Lannisterâs bride, and she does this with The Hound as well. One of my favorite moments is when she sings for him, this large, terrible man who could rape and kill her so easily and he is the one who succumbs before the innocence of this delicate little bird. Only, she isnât delicate at all, but has the fierce strength of the North in her. Sansa Stark is an exceptional character in the ASOIAF series, and I think after all is said and done, she might very well win the game of thrones! Queen in the North!
4. Joan Watson
âShe rebuilds lives from the ground up. A way to measure her success is by how many careers she has rebuilt and the amount of lives she has saved.â
If you havenât been watching CBS Elementary, you should be, because itâs amazing. You know what else is amazing? Joan Watson. Sansa is Queen in the North, Joan Watson is Queen of New York! Iâm a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, and I think Lucy Luiâs incarnation of the famous sleuthâs loyal friend and biographer is the best ever. In this show she is his sober companion turned apprentice turned consulting detective turned vigilante, but she is ever and always his most loyal friend. I love Joan Watsonâs level-headedness, perceptiveness, honesty, compassion, selflessness, and strength. She doesnât take crap from anyone, and yet maintains a servantâs heart. She loves healing people, saving people - perhaps to a fault - but she never gives up on those she believes in. Another shining aspect to her character? She is modest, truly modest, and doesnât seek out glory, recognition, or praise, and I think that captures the essence of the character from the canon. Joan Watson only seeks to get the job done, to get the job done right, and be a help to as many people as she can. In the books, Watson is a soldier, and thatâs how I see Joan Watson too. Sheâs a warrior, ready to lay down her life to protect and serve those who are less fortunate or are in need of justice. She is truly exceptional, and Lucy Lui plays her with such marvelous subtlety and elegance.Â
3. Molly Gibson
âI wish I could love people as you do, Molly!' âDon't you?â âNo. A good number of people love me, I believe, or at least they think they do; but I never seem to care much for any one. I do believe I love you, little Molly, whom I have only known for ten days, better than any one.â
This may be an obscure character for some, but Molly Gibson from Elizabeth Gaskellâs Wives and Daughters is one of my favorite female heroines. She is a humble woman of gentility, discretion, and grace, and everything in her is what I would want to encourage in myself. She is kind and has a servantâs heart, caring for others above herself. One should not mistake this for weakness, however, as Molly is quite resilient. She becomes a strong ballast for everyone involved in the story, and many look to her for strength, encouragement, and sanctuary. Wives and Daughters is a sweet, though sometimes melancholy tale of the struggles of two families and their intertwining stories, and Molly is at the center of the trials and dysfunction - a calm, steady presence. It is in this where her her true strength shines, and little Molly does endure to the end, and is rewarded for her patience and forbearance. Sheâs actually pretty much perfect, and many might not like that about the character, but I donât think that makes her unrelatable or a âMolly Sue.â Sheâs unassuming and down to earth, who struggles and feels like anyone else. She is just very noble and pure of heart. Probably the only fault would be in that she doesnât speak up for herself often and letâs people take advantage of her goodness, but I think there is much we could learn and praise about this heroine.
2. Katniss Everdeen
âWhat am I going to do? I take a deep breath. My arms raise slightly - as if recalling the black-and-white wings Cinna gave me - then come to rest at my sides. Iâm going to be the Mockingjay.â
While I love Molly Gibson for her perfections, I love Katniss Everdeen for her imperfections. There are incredible strengths in Katniss, to be sure, but what I find fascinating is how much she struggles with herself and with the world. Katniss is fierce, loyal, and inspirational, but she also seeks to control that which she cannot, and is unreasonably stubborn. At the very beginning Katniss only wants one thing, to keep those she loves safe. Noble, yes, and her determination is admirable, but this single goal becomes an obsession to her, a a resilient idea that makes up the core of her being. She seeks this with everything she has within her, even when it is impossible, to the point where it breaks her utterly. The movies presented Katnissâ story in a more positive and noble light, but Katnissâ story is actually a sad one. While the Mockingjay becomes a symbol of revolution and power that ultimately overthrows the totalitarian government - for Katniss, the Mockingjay is actually a place of brokenness. On the one side, Katniss dies in order for others to live, which is worthy, but on the other, Katniss fails herself and those she loves. That is why I call The Hunger Games series 1984 as it should have been, not only for the obvious reasons, but because of Katnissâ transformation into the Mockingjay. In 1984, Winston is the character who struggles against the totalitarian government, and he fights with everything in him, maintaining that he will not break, that he will not bend, that he will not allow Big Brother to win where it counts the most - his spirit. Yet, as we know, he fails, and so too does Katniss. One of my favorite moments in the books is when she is in a depressed, catatonic state after her sisterâs death - this one thing - this one thing she tried to keep from happening from the very beginning - but now has failed to do. It is here in this moment when her spirit is broken that she begins to sing. She sings as if the song is being torn from her, she sings in the moment where Katniss dies and the Mockingjay is truly born.Â
There are slivers of hope to be sure in her story, but what stood out to me were Katnissâ frailties, painfully and unequivocally human. I think there is much to be learnt from her character even in that.Â
1. Jane Eyre
âStill indomitable was the reply: âI care for myself. The more solitary, the more friendless, the more unsustained I am, the more I will respect myself. I will keep the law given by God; sanctioned by man. I will hold to the principles received by me when I was sane, and not madâas I am now. Laws and principles are not for the times when there is no temptation⌠. They have a worthâso I have always believed; and if I cannot believe it now, it is because I am insaneâquite insane: with my veins running fire, and my heart beating faster than I can count its throbs. âPreconceived opinions, foregone determinations, are all I have at this hour to stand by: THERE I PLANT MY FOOT."
Jane Eyre is my ultimate heroine, the Queen of all Heroines, IMHO. What is truly admirable about Jane is her indomitable spirit, that she never unravels even in the most adverse circumstances. She endures much abuse throughout her childhood, and endures losing (for a time) the only true happiness she has found because of the frailties of the man she loves. Yet despite how many try to will her, bend her, control her, or how circumstances assail against her, Jane always remains Jane. Her spirit is unbreakable. She stands by her God, her principles, and her dignity, and remains untouchable. I donât believe there really has  been an adaptation of her story that truly depicts her properly. (I think the closest is Charlotte Gainsbourg in the 1996 version.) They usually show her character to be more subdued than she actually she is. She is a quiet, reserved figure, but she is also quite harsh, opinionated, and proud. She loved Rochester deeply and passionately, but she also didnât take any of his crap, and often spoke her mind about his behavior towards her. She was truly a woman outside her times, and I loved the little aspects of this shining through, like her drawings, the unusual pieces that come from her imagination, or how she makes up her mind based on her own initiative and not caring about what others might perceive of her, i.e. her refusal of accepting St. John Riverâs proposal and in so doing, being a missionaryâs wife - which would have been perceived as the more noble thing. Jane Eyeâs internal strength is what I love most about her, and while I would say that I wish we could see more characters like her, there really could only ever be one Jane Eyre.

(Ok, so I wrote out this super-long message but wifi died when I was submitting it. Tumblr told me Iâd lost connection so Iâm pretty sure it didnât reach you.
If it somehow did, thoughâŚsorry for sending in another one OTL And sorry this keeps happening, my computer is being really weird ^^;;)
Tysm ;-; Iâm glad Iâm not annoying you or anything :D Queen Luna is honestly one of my favorite people to talk to as well, though. Thanks for being so amazing and supportive <3
Yep. Ishidaâs Back.
Iâm honestly not too sure how I feel about this pregnancy though. On one hand, since I never really cared too much about Touka I donât think Iâm going to have a hard time caring for this kid, even if they ARE also Kanekiâs child. I also think this wasnât really necessary and I donât want drama between Touken and other ghouls over the child- I want the plot to move forward and to get some questions answeredâŚ
However, it is really interesting how this parallels with other parents throughout TGâs story. Touken right now reflects the Yoshimura-Ukina-Eto dynamic, and Iâm pretty sure the Touken child is meant to connect to Eto.
See, what Iâm thinking about is that TGâs parents have a history of abandoning their children in favor of their ideals, even if they donât always mean to do so. We have Mado, who was blinded by his black-and-white worldview and ended up dead, Arata, who sacrificed so much for his children that in the end he couldnât even stay with them, Yoshimura, who left his daughter behind to create Anteiku (no matter if he meant well, it still affected Eto in a negative way and Yoshimuraâs actions could be seen as partially selfish; he never considered how Eto would feel about this situation, after all), Kanekiâs mother, who was unable to choose between her child and her sister, and Kaneki himself could also count, having completely abandoned the Qs the moment Arima and Eto gave him the title of âOne-eyed Kingâ.
The only non-background-character who was actually a good parent is Shachi, I think.
So the question is: will Touken (Kaneki really, Touka seems to have made up her mind completely about this) be able to break this cycle? Will Kaneki choose his child like he wanted his mother to choose him over his aunt? Or will this child become motivation for him? (heâs never been the best candidate for the OEK after all, and he basically admitted to Amon and Seidou that heâs seriously depressed and just doesnât care)
Iâm also curious: pregnancies take a few months, y'know. I sincerely hope there wonât be a time skip. Or a miscarriage, because not only would that be too much for Kaneki and Touka, it would also be bad for the plot (why make Touka pregnant in the first place then?). Maybe the baby will be born in an epilogue or the last chapter. Maybe Kaneki and Touka will die, this kid will become the new OEK and Ishida will make a third TG series. Idk.
Wow, I didnât intend to make such a long rant ^^;;
I think Thorâs new hairstyle looks cool (sorry Queen Luna) but yeah, it does also look a bit weird on him. Like, now I canât look at him and think 'oh thatâs the god of thunderâ, I just think of Chris Hemsworth lol
That typo tho 'Nat and Clitâ
Even after all thatâs happened in canon, I still feel like Blackhawk have a deep bond and understand each other in a way the rest of the team canât.
I feel like the fact that Sharon is Peggyâs niece alone makes it a 'NOâ ship XD the lack of development for both the relationship and Sharon as a character just added to that.
As for LokiâŚah, well. If he wasn't such a jerk he wouldnât be Loki.
Oh that sounds really cool :D And well, like I said above. Itâs Loki. What can you do.
Haha, thanks ^^ I was obsessed with Buckyâs costume for a while after Winter Soldier. I literally had never heard of Captain America up until then so I didnât even care about him (sorry SteveâŚdo you still ship me with him? lol). I might actually have had a crush on Bucky at the time. Idk. I was nine(?).
I will drag you into Remember This Cold hell no matter what. It is my MISSION. I WILL make you have feels about Lokiâs kitty (Steve got him a cat because he thought he might be lonely). I WILL make you sob over Lokiâs redemption arc and his reaction when anyone dares to lay a finger on Steve (SPOILER: when he thinks Steve is dead he teams up with Bucky and absolutely destroys Hydra. When he and Steve are captured and tortured for information he threatens to cut open his own veins and summon a beast with the blood to destroy them allâŚheâs completely serious about that. One of the major things Steve has to help him with is how he gets desperate and suicidal whenever he thinks he might lose Steve).
Oh, so you wonât talk about Kanae, huh?
With my short existence, I can make a difference- I can be there for him, I can be his knight
Imagine this is Matsumae teaching Kanae about kagune usage and what it means to be a servant of the Tsukiyama family. For bonus angst, imagine that the slip-ups ('do it for her- that is to say, you do it for himâ) are Matsumae talking about the late Mrs. Tsukiyama (HC that Matsumae was around when Shuuâs mom was alive, though I guess thatâs unlikely considering her ageâŚshush. Just ignore it for the angst.)
Kanae singing the 'I love youâ part from If I Could Tell Her as they fall off the building
Kanae singing 'But what you do when thereâs this great divide? And what do you do when the distance is too wide?â when Shuu is ill
'I wondered how you learned to dance like all the rest of the world isnât thereâ and 'Thereâs nothing like your smile, sort of subtle and perfect and real. You never knew how wonderful that smile could make someone feelâ as they remember their memories with Shuu as a child.
'I love him, but every day Iâm learning- all my life, Iâve only been pretendingâ from On my Own when Eto is torturing Kanae
And then most of 'Itâs Over, Isnât Itâ is from Kanae to Sasaki/Kaneki, of course, but then imagine that the chorus ('And she chose you, and she loved you, and sheâs gone- itâs over, isnât it? Why canât I move on?â) is like a duet between Kanae and Shuu. Kanaeâs pining over Shuu, of course, but Shuuâs POV is after Kanaeâs death (referring to himself as 'youâ).
Hope you liked this :)
But wait, if you knew all of Urieâs songs, that means you know Still SaneâŚdoes this mean youâre a Lorde fan? Because I thought Still Sane was one of her lesser-known songs. Iâm obsessed with Lordeâs music, soâŚ
And Iâm also a fan of Fall out Boy and Marina and the Diamonds. It'd be cool if you listen to them as well :D
Seriously?! Because blue is my favorite colorâŚwow!
I havenât watched FMA but I know quite a bit about it (the Roy rain jokes are the best lol)âŚwe actually talked on your FMA blog once ^^ And Iâm excited to hear about any of Queen Lunaâs OCs! Iâm sure theyâre all amazing :D (hahaha, I can relate about embarrassing old OCs. I canât think of any right now but I know I have some). Iâll send you a little info about my OCs in a seperate submission, since this one seems to be getting a little long (though I canât be sure) ^^;;
Oh, all four of those are lovely! I feel like the girl with the yellow hat (top row, left) has the most icon-ish look, if that makes sense? She also reminds of Queen Luna a little bit, idk why XD but thatâs just my opinion, all four of those characters would make beautiful icons <3
Yep, your internet did die ^^;; This is the only thing I got from you... So no worries about spamming me ^^
Aww *hugs* I love talking to you a lot, a lot! So if you ever need anything, Iâm here ^^ (Iâd add gifs, but internet is slow).
The pregnancy is as out of place as that chapter (once again avoiding pervy words hahah). But... if Kanekiâs a ghoul (halfway) and Touka is a full ghoul, why does the baby need human food? Iâm gonna assume Kaneki is the dad because I donât want to think about the other options.Â
I, too, think that the ghoul eating human food/human eating ghoul food for the baby to survive is a parallel for Eto, but we all know how that ended, so idk how i feel about it. Maybe the baby will be a cute and healthy kid whoâll live a nice childhood? Hopefully? Pls let me hope.Â
Maybe Etoâll adopt the baby since she knows the feeling of being abandoned and will give it a nice, happy childhood? HOPEFULLY???
Honestly, I donât remember who Shachi is, so...
*gasp* you wound me... How could you like that hideousness that is the hair (or lack of it). Jk, youâre free to like what you want ^^ I mean, itâs not that bad I guess... I just liked the old version a bit more. A lot more.
So much for avoiding risqu words.
I think their bond is mostly platonic? I mean, if Clint wasnât married and didnât have tons of babies, Iâd assume there was more, but this way, Iâd like to think itâs more of a brother-sister relationship. Why am I getting Love, Rosie flashbacks ;-;
Donât tell me Sharonâs another Jane, this time with even less character -.-
I guess Iâll just avoid Civil War as long as possible :))
AS FOR KANAE
Thatâs my feeling about everything.
Well, my music taste isnât quite definable by âlikes this artistâ or anything, because itâs mostly a âIâm browsing youtube and I like this song, so iâll download itâ one. So Still Sane just happens to be there. As for Fallout Boy and Marina, I do have quite a lot of their songs there ^^ But, generally speaking, most of my songs that arenât idol songs ?uncomfortable cough* tend to go in the rock direction. Sometimes remixes and sometimes songs no one ever heard about, like Texas by Magic Man or Change My Life from Ashes Remain. Also, Holy by Zolita, although I mostly like that song because itâs so different from most songs nowadays. Itâs a bit weird, though.
I really, really want to see all your OCs, especially the TG one that suffers a lot :))
Oh god, hereâs my most embarrassing one, the FMA one:
Kk, her nameâs Arya, sheâs an alchemist (of course) and depending on how I felt at the moment, she was either shipped with Roy or Ed. Most of the time, it was Roy, so the info I wrote down was based on that. Is the cliche âsarcastic, but actually a huge softieâ character with right about 0 character flaws, other than being stubborn (âBut it also helps when sheâs suspicious about the homonculi!â). Now, this isnât so bad. But hereâs the best part. She has a stepdad (bc no oc can have a normal, fully functioning family) that tried to âmerge her with a wolf, giving her enhanced senses and strength and making her hair white + eyes purpleâ. I still cringe when I think about her. Literal nightmares.
Then we have a soul eater one, where the girl is both a meister and a weapon (which is, by the way, impossible by the laws of that universe, since the souls of the two types differ greatly) AND a witch to top it off.
Thankfully, I never went too far with the looks, the white hair + purple eyes was as far as I went, but I knew to change it to normal (or try to make an excuse *coughwolfcough* if the universe was one where the colours were mostly normal. And I never gave them DDD+ boobies.Â
As for the newer ones, I donât have many, but from the fandoms we share, I have 1 for YoI and 1 for MCU (this one was created yesterday :P )
The YoI oneâs name is Nara and sheâs a skater from Detroit, therefore Yuuri and Phichitâs rinkmate. Honestly, sheâs not that talented at skating, but she does try to make up for it by practicing a lot. However, she doesnât magically get better and lands 1st place, sheâs content doing her best and just participating in the competitions, since she has a secondary job.
The MCU oneâs a bit more mary sueish, but thatâs what makes it fun. Kya, her power is âmanipulatingâ animals (well, not manipulating, itâs more along the lines of âanimals like her and listen to her) and in extreme cases (when she gets very emotional), human manipulation (technically, humans are animals). When she was small, she was experimented on, granting her the powers. However, the faculty was attacked, allowing her to escape. She tried to live a normal life and was actually succeeding, but then Loki attacked New York and lo and behold, she actually managed to do some hero work, so the avengers were like âweâre not recruiting you, but you could be useful in the future so weâll keep an eye on youâ. Thatâs as far as I got, but I do plan on expanding a bit. Also, probably predictable, but Loki is her love interest ^^;;;;;;
Alrighty, seems like thatâll be my icon ^^ Iâll probably change the general colour scheme of the blog, so donât be surprised if everythingâs different the next time you visit :PÂ The name definitely stays the same, though.
As for the âshe reminds you of meâ, you couldnât be more right ^^;;; In the whole Love Live series, sheâs the most similar to me looks wise, but also personality wise. A quiet bookworm whoâs fine staying in the library whole day hahah I always cry during her character arc, because I relate waaay too much ;-;
Also, completely random, but Iâm listening to âMerry Go Round of Lifeâ from Howlâs Moving Castle as I write this and it would actually make a pretty nice waltz song...

When her hive was attacked by war equipped and battle ready unicorns, Friend defended the hiveâs precious eggs.Â
The door, upon opening, showed the Empress, Grata, and the Right Wing of the Imperial Throne.
Â This, notes, restorations, preparation and all is a fantastic piece of work.
âV.I.L.E. will duplicate it with the greatest of care.
No sound.  No touch.  No taste.  Nothing âŚ
