It’s so cool the difference in feathers between the various ages and times of year for birds, from soft and fluffy, to textured, to sleek, dull, or colorful!! Hey! I apologize for the surprise hiatus. I moved back to college, started classes, and have been swamped by the new-ness of it all. Then to top things off my external hard drive crashed (I had backed up everything on my home computer so I didn’t loose anything, thank God😁). That means I don’t have any of my scanned artwork or photos with me here at college, so I can’t post anything from the archives. I bought a new one, but I still need to transfer all my photos to it. I was walking around areas in Del Mar, San Diego near wetlands & saw two Herons perched high in the trees. “The yellow-crowned night heron is a short, stocky wading bird about 24 inches in length with a wingspan of a little under four feet. It has long yellow to orange legs, Orange-red eyes, a black bill, and a short neck. These Herons slowly stalk prey in or near shallow water, usually alone, with a hunched, forward-leaning posture. They perch quietly on stumps and tree branches, often over water. Glad I was able to capture the celebrity of the moment at Colonel Sam Smith Park this past weekend. Birders were all over this guy as it is rare to see him come up this far North. The Yellow Crowned Night Heron is typically seen sleeping high up in the trees during the day and feeds on fish or hard-shelled crustaceans at dusk/night. . He wasn’t very active the days I was able to see him so I only caught him lounging around the branches and nearby rocks. . You have to admit though, he has a cute face, don’t you think? .
