Flowers
Summary: what sort of flowers (or alternatives) they give you
Characters: Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Ace, Sabo, Law, Kid, Usopp, Robin, Nami
Genre: fluff
———
Luffy: Not one to buy you flowers. Instead, he picks them. Sometimes they’re weeds he thought looked pretty, other times, he presents you with a lush bundle of pink carnations you think he must have picked from a commercial flower field (this man has no concept of private property). He’s always very proud to present them because he worked hard to secure them; you'd better give him a kiss for his effort. Has, on occasion, accidentally brought you some that are poisonous. Also once brought you a bundle of radishes because he thought you would like the color. Receiving flowers from Luffy can be a bit like receiving a lizard from your pet cat.
Zoro: He won’t really think to buy you flowers until one day you mention that camellias are pretty. He takes that to mean you like camellias, specifically, and not that you’d like to receive flowers in general, so he always buys you camellias, and you think it’s so sweet that you never correct him. He’s not actually a proponent of apology flowers because he thinks a ‘bribe’ cheapens it, but he will bring you flowers when he knows you’re having a hard day. He might also buy you a small bamboo plant that you two end up treating a bit like a pet, giving it a name and everything.
Sanji: Classic red roses, at least a dozen at a time. He’ll buy you roses in shades of white and pink, as well as the occasional yellow, but a dozen red roses is his go to. He also makes very good use of the petals. Doesn’t need a special occasion to present you with a bouquet. In fact, he always makes sure you have fresh flowers on your nightstand. Additionally, he’s learned to cook a few dishes with edible flowers in them for you, presenting you with all manner of chamomile, chive blossom, and pansy dishes.
Usopp: Will buy you cheap supermarket flowers on his way to come visit you and will regale you with a long, fanciful tale of crossing oceans and deserts to secure them from the only spot in the world those particular flowers grow, a tale filled with sweet and funny anecdotes that makes you giggle as you trim the stems and place them in a vase of water. He’ll tell you that the flowers have special powers and properties, such as bringing you luck or living forever so long as you smile every day.
Robin: Is an expert on hanakotoba, the language of flowers; she read a book on it once and thought it was so sweet and beautiful that she read it cover to cover several more times. She always buys you flowers with a specific meaning and then happily explains that meaning to you. Giving you flowers brightens her day as much as it brightens yours. White anemones (sincerity), daffodils (respect), and forget-me-nots (true love) are some of her favorites to give you.
Nami: Not a traditional kind of girl. She won’t hesitate to buy you roses if you like them, but she gravitates more toward violets, daisies, and the like, smaller flowers that speak to both of you. She’s also a proponent of buying you a single flower that you can put in your hair, and she has bought you a selection of floral hair accessories so you always have flowers for your hair on hand; her favorite is the primrose crown she bought you.
Ace: He’ll bring you bouquets with a lot of variety that the nice lady at the flower shop helped him put together. He usually builds these bouquets around sunflowers or orange lilies, and he gets very smug when his flowers brighten your day. He’ll also pick flowers for you, but he’s very conscious to only pick the ones that are not weeds. If he finds a field of sunflowers, you will be getting as many as he can carry. Never, ever visits you empty-handed, always brings at least a bouquet of flowers with him. Treats securing flowers for you like hunting for dinner and is always so proud of his bounty.
Law: Gravitates toward orchids, especially in darker shades of pink, purple, and blue; they feel a little moodier and less kitschy than the red roses Bepo tells him he’s supposed to buy to woo you (side note: imagine Law getting relationship advice from Bepo). One night folded an origami flower for you, and you liked it so much that he spent the rest of the night folding an entire bouquet, though he pretends it only took him five minutes. He doesn’t actually give the origami bouquet to you so much as he just sets it on your nightstand one day and mutters something about how the flowers won’t need water. He gets kind of annoyed if you make a big deal out of it.
Sabo: He’s gone for very long periods of time, so when he returns, he’ll bring you a bundle of peonies or calla lilies, but he also bought you a cherry blossom bonsai tree so you can have flowers even when he’s away. The bonsai tree ends up becoming his baby, and when he is home, he spends quite a bit of time tending to it, to the point you get a little jealous. But it brings you lots of comfort when he’s away, a symbol of your love that’s firmly rooted and eternal. Side note, he will most definitely use flowers to seduce you.
Kid: If it’s at the point where he’s buying flowers, this man is so far beyond pride he won’t flinch at purchasing a bundle of pink tulips, even if they clash with his outfit/aesthetic. He also presents you one night with a bouquet of metal flowers he made himself. He spent ages on it, but he really didn’t mean to. He intended to make one but got absorbed in his work and made an entire bundle of dainty little metal flowers. He’s oddly proud of himself for making something so delicate and would be crushed if you ever got rid of them.

TAGS / WARNINGS: male reader but no pronouns are used and can be read as gender neutral, implied jealousy, really just fluff, aged-up to third years, flower language, reader's a little oblivious WC: 1,000 NOTE: no one look at me. this guy's ruined my life

“What’s this? A confession?”
Your whole body flinches, curling in on itself.
Suo watches on—his smile is neat. Polite. Hands clasped behind his back, the neck of a barley tea bottle perched between his fingers as he stands above you.
The others are mingling over rice balls: Sakura is eating Suo’s portion—you watched the latter hand it off before he’d even finished with the first one.
The back of your neck is hot, Suo’s gaze is heavy on the crown of your head: an itch blooming there. You resist the instinct to scratch.
“D-don’t be stupid,” you splutter. It’s always felt a little precarious to be crouched low in his line of vision—but it’ll be like losing if you stand; your feet remain anchored to the pavement. “These are a ‘thank you’ for helping at Yamato-san’s shop. Her daughter was in the area.”
Suo’s eye drops to the flowers—yellow camellias, she’d told you, looking awfully uncomfortable with the whole exchange—and though his expression doesn’t budge, disbelief is obvious in his light-hearted hum.
“Is that so? You seem plenty embarrassed, though.”
“Shut up.”
He’s watching in your periphery as you lift the bottle to inspect it. The blossoms are undeniably beautiful: pale yellow petals arranged symmetrically with pristine coloring. Himari had scurried off before you could learn what they meant, leaving you dumbfounded on the sidewalk.
“Thinking about your response?” Suo asks.
Your eyebrows scrunch. “I already thanked her.”
He’s amused: his little chuckle coaxes a flat slant of your mouth. “You’re a funny one. But that’s not quite what I meant,” he explains. “Are you going to give her a flower in return?”
You frown. He’s been like this since year one—giving you half of what you need to understand his point. “It hadn’t really occurred to me. I wouldn’t wanna… I dunno—is it that important? She seemed kinda uncomfortable.”
Suo considers you, silent. Then, his smile softens, a teasing intonation in his voice when he speaks.
“If this were my confession, I’d be heartbroken, hearing you talk like that.”
“I already told you, it’s not a confession!”
“Yamato-san has been friendly to us Furin students for years.” His stare sends a shiver crawling along your arms. “And you’ve known her daughter for quite a while.”
“I’ve only been helping them since last summer,” you grumble. “She’s never mentioned liking me before. I thought she was scared of me; she rarely talks when I’m there.”
Suo tuts. “You’ve got to consider her feelings. I’m sure she’s just shy. But look—Haruka-kun’s been bright red ever since she called out to you. His radar’s as impressive as ever.”
“He hasn’t learned to turn that off yet?” you grumble. Sakura is too far away to hear, busy scarfing down rice balls, but his narrowed glare hits you anyway, cheeks still red.
Relenting, you groan. “Fine, then—tell me; what do these things mean?”
Suo’s chin tilts as his gaze slides over you.
“…Longing. They symbolize longing.”
Your jaw goes slack. “They’re… what?”
“It’s quite the bold choice—she probably didn’t feel comfortable explaining with all of us here,” Suo suggests, attention turned up toward the sky, now. Looking at nothing, you suppose. “Though it probably doesn’t take much guessing to realize that.”
“…Are you calling me an idiot?”
“Not at all,” he replies lightly. “She must have thought hard about which flowers to give you.”
It’s your turn to laugh. “Are you serious? These are just… It’s just a coincidence. She said her mother would’ve delivered them but she’s busy managing the shop right now.”
“Oh, I doubt that’s the case,” Suo muses. His words have you pausing—the tone of them sitting strangely in your chest. “She’s been raised with flower language, I’m sure her mother would’ve chosen a different kind for simple gratitude.”
You can’t help but stare. His voice is light enough—teasing. But you know Suo’s expressions: even the ones he’s not aware of. His words are never wasted.
“But that’s alright,” he continues, pulling out another smile for you. Oddly stiff for how peaceful the day’s been. The plastic bottle crackles lightly as you roll it between your palms. Light catches on the beads of his earrings, illuminates his fringe. “It just means you’ll be responsive to a more direct confession.”
You scoff. “Yeah, I’ll let you know if that ever—”
“I love you.”
Your fingers crush the plastic so hard water comes spouting out between the gaps in the stems. It spills over your hand and down your wrist, narrowly avoids your knees as you gasp and leap up, pressing your back against the warm concrete.
“What the—what the hell—!” you swear, holding out the bottle as water dribbles to the pavement below. “Wh-what’re you—you—!”
“Something like that, am I right?” Suo’s face is alight with mirth. You scowl, skin hot: tempted to swing a foot out towards him despite knowing he’d dodge.
“Enough outta you,” you huff, flicking water from your fingertips. Suo offers you his handkerchief. “If you want entertainment, go try that on Sakura.”
“It would be such a hassle—I don’t want to get punched,” he lilts, looking entirely too pleased. You attempt to fold the handkerchief before returning it.
For all his growth, Sakura refuses to look at you; his cheeks colored a warm pink as your group sets back for the school. Suo walks beside you, placid and quiet.
Curiosity gnaws as you throw a glance his way. “Y’know, Suo, Himari-san’s a nice girl. And her mother likes giving out snacks. You’d probably get some flowers if you lent them a hand.” In fact, you bet he would get dozens of them without even needing to lift a pretty finger.
He merely hums.
“What’s with the interrogation, anyways?” you ask, nudging a light elbow into his side with a shit-eating grin. “Jealous?”
Suo’s eye catches the bouquet. Then lifts to meet your gaze.
He smiles. Tilts his head. “Maybe I am.”

Dethentines 2024 Day 1: "OTP after Army of the Doomstar"
“Skwisgaar is completely broken after the events of the movie. He cant do the “will they, wont they” charade anymore and needs to find out if all his feelings are reciprocated or not.
Admitting this all in private, hearing a raw, endless flow of emotions and watching Skwisgaar break down in front of him, Murderface knows exactly what the guitarist is trying to say. He’s ready to push past his fear and take the biggest risk of his life by verbalizing the word he hears intertwined throughout Skwisgaar’s confession.”
REJOICE it is complete. This is the first kiss the two share after a slow burn spanning the entire series. I put so much love into representing emotions through the colors and the purpose behind all the flowers, there’s so much to them that I am yet to depict.
Some details about the flowers:
the bleeding hearts (upper left) represent unconditional love.
red roses obviously mean passion.
pink camellia mean longing for someone.
the yellow primrose is also the sacred flower of the norse god of love, Freya, it symbolizes resurrection and being unable to live without that person.
the purple anenome are protection from evil. they appear in the love story of Venus and Adonis, some versions are grown from her tears as she cried over his body, and another version is its growth from his seeping blood. Murderface plays the role of Adonis because he doesnt realize that Venus loves him beyond the flesh, and Skwisgaar as Venus is yet to confess.
I hope you all like it, I took more time than I'd anticipated, but Skwisface is extremely special to me and I wanted to make something just as big.
MOVIE SPOILERS VERSION UNDER THE CUT ⤵️

Step in the right direction.
With time Vaggie does eventually come out of her shell. Sure she was still kind of snippy with most, but with Charlie there was never any hostility towards her. Feelings grow with time and eventually Vaggie comes to terms with her feeling and approaches Charlie with three particular flowers, Charlie playing both coy and playful won't lie, she was more then eager to return those feelings.
The flowers have a variety of meanings. I will go in the order they're seen in. In my eyes these flowers are perfect in how Vaggie views Charlie.
Strelitzia/Bird of Paradise = Freedom, Paradise, Joyfulness and Excitement. ( *Freedom Vaggie finally got to experience without the strict watch of the heavenly mountains gaze, never being able to truly feel joy and put her feelings into her job to avoid being judged harshly. *While this place isn't much of one to her, seeing this place as it's own paradise to be who she wants to be. * The joy and excitement she finds herself feeling just in the mere presence of Charlie) -----
Red Camellias = Passionate and Romantic love. While this is self explanatory , the red Camellias speaks fairly bluntly in how Vaggie is feeling for Charlie, she's been passionate before but this kind of passion was new, it had her feeling warmth and of course love. ------
Yellow Tulips = Happiness, Cheerfulness and Hope. This Tulip while it seems the most plain, I think it speaks the loudest on how Vaggie views Charlie as a whole. In her darkest hour Charlie was everything she needed, the happiness practically dripped off her when she saw Vaggie getting better each day. The cheerfulness she exuded upon taking her out to show her around her pride and the one thing Vaggie hadn't felt in so long was hope. Hope that she could be better then who she was, hope that with time lives for all prides could be better. Vaggie could not see herself anywhere else from here on out.
The art was done by the amazing artist Fallen-Beast. I manage to snag one of the last slots in this YCH. One that may never be opened again. NOTE 2: These designs are ones I had commissioned, as always do not mind sharing but please don't repost. I don't mind fanart of these designs but please do not claim them.

Boufuurin's Four Heavenly Kings and their Buddhism counterpart
We have established that Boufuurin's four teams are based on the four Buddhism gods that watch over the four directions of the world. In this post, we will dive into the correspondence and symbolism behind each team's title.
Notes: they/them pronouns for Tsubaki.
Jikoku Team (Tsubaki's team)
Jikoku Team is named after Dhṛtarāṣṭra, or Jikoku-ten (持国天) in Japanese, Guardian of the East. Jikoku-ten has white skin and carries a pipa (a stringed musical instrument), the sound of which calms listeners' minds. His name means "Upholder of the Nation", that is, to rule and keep the order of the kingdom, and protect its people.
A remark should be made about his role. Not only does Jikoku-ten protect all people, but he also shields the gandharva's (or gandhabba's)—non-human beings who seek shelter in trees and flowers that emit scents. Hence, Jikoku-ten is strongly connected to plants.
Now, Tsubaki's name means Camellia—a flower that represents inner strength and deep love. Story lines surrounding them also involve love and flora. From Tsubaki's feelings for Umemiya, who enjoys gardening, to the story between grandpa Ito-san and his late wife Yui-san centering a dogwood tree, it seems like the theme is very consistent.
Komoku Team (Mizuki's team)
Komoku Team is named after Virūpākṣa, or Komoku-ten (広目天) in Japanese, Guardian of the West. Komoku-ten has red skin, and his name means "All-seeing" or "He Who Has Broad Objectives". His divine eyes can observe the living world, oversee all beings' actions and karma.
Mizuki, true to his title, was the strategist for Boufuurin's defense against Noroshi. He was the one to organize teams into their suitable positions and had kept an eye on Boufuurin's situation during the whole battle.
Zojo Team (Momose's team)
Zojo Team is names after Virūḍhaka, or Zouchou-ten (増長天) in Japanese, Guardian of the South. Zouchou-ten has blue skin and his name means "growth" or "increase". His role is to oversee hostile gods, protect the younglings, or sprouts, and maintain Buddhism principles.
I think Momose connects to the "fostering sprouts" mission the most. From what we can pick out, he's an artist and we can assume that he somewhat influences the graffiti arts around the Fuurin school building, hence why graffiti in Fuurin has a very consistent and distinguishable style (which is a post that I'm cooking up!!!). By inducing art (not just graffiti, as we can also see random canvas paintings around Fuurin), Momose is indirectly nurturing Fuurin students' personal growth.
Tamon Team (Hiiragi's team)
Tamon Team is named after Vaiśravaṇa, or Tamon-ten/Bishamon-ten (多聞天 /毘沙門天) in Japanese, Guardian of the North. Tamon-ten has yellow or green skin, is the highest ranking in the Four Heavenly Kings, and is considered the god of war. His name means "Listening to Many Teachings". Besides overseeing the living, Tamon-ten also keeps guard for Buddha's preaches. Thus, one could say he is the closest to Buddha.
Hiiragi perfectly fits into this description. Among the Boufuurin kings, he is the closest to Umemiya, even considered his right-hand man. Hiiragi is probably the strongest, too, as he was given the title of the god of war.
#joke isnt mine but i think yall need to hear this#komoku-ten has divine eyes but mizuki is short-sighted haha#and Zouchou-ten's name means 'grow' but Momose is the shortest aksdhsdhfud#wind breaker four heavenly kings#tsubaki chan#tsubakino tasuku#mizuki saku#momose takumi#hiiragi touma#hiragi toma#umemiya hajime#wbk analysis#wind breaker#wind breaker nii satoru#wbk

The Mai Akasaki Mystery Flower - Solved?
feat. a mini-dissection of Mai's name
Hi! I have seen a few people here guessing what the flower on Mai’s tattoo is (mostly camellias iirc)… and I think I have the answer!
I think it’s Ochna integerrima, which is also known as the yellow Mai flower. (Hoa mai vàng is it’s Vietnamese name). Yes, the answer may be that simple: the Mai flower is literally the Mai flower. It seems to match her tattoo and is a very similar shade to her eyes.
(Note: I found most of this information in February last year when I just searched ‘mai flower’ on google and saw the results and was like ‘huh?’ and went down a rabbit hole from there lol.)
The flower has great significance to the Vietnamese Lunar New year, or Tết, short for Tết Nguyên Đán. They are used to decorate homes and are in full bloom during Tết, which is around late January to early or mid-February and lasts for around 7-10 days, which also lines up with Mai’s birthday (February 1st).
(please correct me if I am wrong, I got this information from Google and I am not Vietnamese and have never celebrated this holiday myself!)
There is a legend associated with the flower as well, which I believe might help explain what happened to Mai Akasaki.
https://botanicgardens.uw.edu/about/blog/2022/01/31/lunar-new-years-and-the-legend-of-the-mai-flower/
The following is copy-pasted from the above website:
"The Mai flower is named after a heroine in Vietnamese lore. Mai, a young warrior set off with her father to slay a giant serpent which had been terrorising their village. Mai’s mother gave her a bright yellow áo dài (traditional Vietnamese dress) to wear when she returned, so her mother could see her coming. Sadly, Mai ended up sacrificing her life to save her father from the serpent. Impressed by her heroic feats, the Gods made her a saint and granted her the ability to return home to her parents during the Lunar New Year celebration. After her parents passed, Mai transformed into a tree in front of her family home which blossomed with yellow flowers every year. Over time, the villagers would collect branches from this tree and decorate their homes for Lunar New Year."
And here are two other websites I looked at when researching this story:
https://scootersaigontour.com/legend-of-yellow-apricot-blossom-and-peach-blossom-on-vietnamese-new-year/
https://heritagevietnamairlines.com/en/the-tale-of-the-yellow-mai-flowers/
This leads me to believe that Mai sacrificed herself trying to protect the cast from a large threat, perhaps the mastermind/MonoTV, or sacrificed herself during the HPA operation that @1moreff-creator mentions in their post Everything We Know About Mai Akasaki + So Many Theories – @1moreff-creator on Tumblr. (this post is basically the Mai bible, please check it out!)
Additionally, MonoTV’s Mai-related secret quote “It’s all your fault”, and the second anniversary code with the same message, and some of the other Mai secret quotes talking about her in past tense imply that she has already passed, and that the cast is the reason why, which could mean she sacrificed herself for them... so I don't think she is the mastermind!
Her surname can also potentially provide us with clues.
“aka” means red, the same colour as her hair
“sa” means bloom or blossom, a reference to her flower tattoo
“ki” means hope, and why that is important is pretty self-explanatory if you've seen anything Danganronpa related
and "saki" means blossom of hope
(These are all Japanese meanings. I just used google for these translations, I do not know Japanese).
This means that her sharing the same name as this flower is likely not just a coincidence, but a deliberate choice by DRDTdev.
Submitted Surnames with "red" in Meaning - Behind the Name
Tenma Saki | Project SEKAI Wiki | Fandom
(yes I just cited the project sekai wiki as a source in my drdt theory, I don't know how I got here either)
The only problems with this theory that her flower is a Mai flower (that I know of) is probably the Literature Girl Insane flowers and the flowers in the bonus episodes being different colours. For the LGI flowers they may just be different flowers altogether that are there to symbolise something else, or a different aspect of Mai... I'm not sure. And the bonus episode flowers could just be coloured differently for aesthetic purposes.
tl;dr The flower on Mai's tattoo may actually be called 'Mai', it suggests she sacrificed herself and probably isn't the mastermind and her surname reinforces the idea that her name choice is not a coincidence.
This is my first tumblr post so apologies in advance if anything about the formatting is weird! Also critisism is appreciated, I would love to hear your thoughts on this :D

Wilmon + 'he'd been receiving anonymous flowers for a week now.'🌸🌷
When I re-read this today I immediately thought of this full-fledged idea @piebingo posted yesterday. With her permission I am drawing inspiration from that idea. I also drew on this post about flower meanings.
He'd been receiving anonymous flowers for a week now, a befuddling situation he vents about to Felice when she stops by the shop that Saturday.
"...And not to sound paranoid, but I almost feel like I should interpret it as a threat, actually, because who sends a florist flowers from his competitor?!"
Felice's eyes widen over the bouquet of apple blossom, red camellia, and spearmint she's been smelling, so he's guessing he's missed the mark on downplaying the conspiracy theorist vibes. "How do you know they're from a competitor?"
"I didn't put any of these together." He gestures to the six vases on the counter between them.
"No, but--" Felice drums her lacquered nails on either side of a vase. "Do you remember the woman who came in here on Sunday and placed a big order for a birthday party?"
"Yes," Simon says, drawing the word out, not sure why Felice knows that information.
"That was Eva. Alex's sister." At Simon's nonplussed shrug, she adds, "There was no birthday party."
Simon is usually better at mental math than this. "...Is Alex my secret admirer?"
Felice throws her hands up in exasperation, nearly knocking down a smaller vase of cornflower and honeysuckle. "Oh my god, Simon! Eva bought all those flowers as a favor to me."
"I don't--"
"I bought the flowers as a favor to Wille."
"W-"
"Who has been sending them to you all week."
Simon takes a step back, looks at all six bouquets again, feels something catch in his chest. "Wille ... Wille arranged these?" he asks tremulously. He might have to hire his friend; he really had thought these had been arranged by his competition. Okay, not the point. "Why would he - why would he send me - and anonymously - and - red carnations?" he finishes weakly.
Red carnations: my heart aches for you.
"Counterpoint: why would you plant mean little flower messages in Wille's date bouquets?" Felice challenges.
"I-"
"It's the same reason. You've both been--" Felice consults the big laminated The Language of Flowers poster hanging behind the register. "You've both been very... red columbine about yellow carnation, but it's all just geranium."
"That's not how that works," he murmurs numbly. He lifts his gaze from the bouquets to find Felice smiling gently at him. "It's really - he's really--"
The bell over the door jingles. From his vantage behind the counter, Simon can't see who's just come in, but Felice smiles, leans forward, plucks a cluster of sweet pea blossoms from one of the bouquets, and slips it behind Simon's ear. "Why don't you ask him yourself?"

The Symbolism Behind the Camellia
You've certainly seen these flowers, haven't you?
Yes, they are everywhere, so I did a little research into their meaning, and yes, there are several. So I chose to talk about the meanings that are most repeated, not only in the West, but in the East as well.
Before we start talking about meanings, let's talk about the types of camellia, in fact, the colors. These are: red, pink, white, purple and yellow.
Let's remember when these flowers tend to appear more frequently
Hanako and Yashiro
Hanako and Tsukasa
Okay, but what difference does it make?
Let me tell you the meaning of flowers and their colors
White Camellia Flower Meaning – The white camellia flower symbolizes adoration and admiration.
Red Camellia Flower Meaning - Red camellia flowers symbolize true love, passion and empathy.
Pink camellia flower meaning – The pink camellia flower symbolizes love for someone and also the feeling of missing them.
Purple Camellia Flower Meaning – Purple camellia flowers symbolize love, devotion and admiration for loved ones.
Yellow Camellia Flower Meaning – The yellow color of the camellia symbolizes care, passion and love.
Among these three, the flowers that appear most frequently are red, true love, passion and empathy. If we consider that it is related to Hanako and Yashiro, this does not surprise us, but it is also related to the twins.
The red flowers weren't the only ones that appeared between the two.
On Tsukasa's side we see purple, pink and white flowers, they seem to have more "healthy" meanings for common brothers, while on Hanako's side, there are still red flowers, love and passion, there are also white ones, that is, there is something mutual between them.
Followed by this, we have cherry blossoms (Sakura), which means beauty, femininity, love, happiness, renewal and hope. They are also associated with Tsukasa, as if to mention that he is "feminine or fragile"
The flower also means renewal and rebirth, which would also fit well with Tsukasa.
In fact, it's very interesting that the twins' panels and Sumire's panels with Hakubo are in parallel. The owners of the yorishiros looking at them from above, and the yorishiros looking at them from below, while there are cherry blossoms representing their fragility, femininity, the power of renewal and rebirth, as mentioned before.
Regarding the "happiness and hope" part, it's difficult to associate with Tsukasa and Sumire, because there is no more happiness in them, if there ever was, and about hope, I don't need to go on and on to say that they both no longer have it. no hope about anything, not just them, but Hanako too.
It's very interesting how Aidairo likes symbolism, and how well they fit into the general context. Flowers represent a very important part of how the characters feel, of course none of this is certainty, but speculation is important to try to understand them better.

Stood Up
CW/TW - None!
Part 3
Summery: You and Howdy go on a date at the park to get to know each other a little more. Silly stories are told and laughter takes over for a bit. A few days later you meet his sister! You spend the day with the siblings and take them to make their first Build-a-Bear! And more romance on the drive home!
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
Getting ready on Thursday made Howdy feel like he was a nervous wreck (he was). He, after spending nearly an hour getting ready, finally chose his outfit for the day: A white long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows with a pastel yellow sweater vest paired with a pair of light blue jeans. His antennae twitched nervously, and he checked himself one more time in the mirror. He double checked his hair and his clothes, and made sure the flowers were right.
Taking a deep breath, he walked out the front door and locked it behind him.
When you set up this date, you were excited, but now? You were an anxious mess while waiting at the park for Howdy. You tried taking a few deep breaths, but it didn’t help too much, just as you were getting ready to plug in your headphones and listen to some music to calm down, you saw him walking towards you. That is, until he stopped and stared at you. You were confused and worried he didn’t like your outfit before you saw the blush making itself known on his cheeks. You smiled, nervous and flustered. He looked so handsome; you just couldn’t help but smile as you felt a blush warm your cheeks. You cleared your throat and walked closer to him, “Are you alright, Howdy?” You had to look up at him, but you could see him break from his trance and his blush darken.
He chuckled, one of his hands coming up to rub the back of his neck while another presented a beautiful bouquet of red and pink camellias, red and white carnations, dandelions, forget-me-nots, gloxinias, jonquils, and spider flowers. It was a lovely bouquet, even if the flowers seemed a bit random. You brought the flowers up and smiled as you smelled them, “Oh, they're lovely. How did you choose what flowers to use?” You couldn’t deny that you were curious about the seemingly random arrangement.
He giggled and all his hands laced together as he began playing with his fingers. Even from his voice you could tell he was a little embarrassed, “I, uh, did some research into the meanings of different flowers...” He trailed off as he ducked his head, which admittedly didn’t work because of his height. You cooed, “Thank you so much. I've never had someone put in so much effort for me...” You looked adoringly at the flowers, softly caressing their petals.
Howdy smiled at you. He was so happy you liked the bouquet that he let out a quiet sigh of relief before dusting off his clothes. “So, uh, what's the plan?” he asked with a tilt of his head. You looked up at him through your lashes and he swore that if he had a heart, it would have skipped a beat. You smiled and offered a hand for him to hold, which he happily took, and you started walking down the path, “Well, I was thinking that maybe we could go for a walk and get to know each other? If that’s okay with you...?” You looked hesitant and he hated the look on you. “I love that idea, bug.” His voice was soft and reassuring when he spoke. He started to softly rub the back of your hand with his thumb. You grinned up at him and he smiled back at you.
You hummed, looking around as you started to wander down a more wooded section of the path. “Have you any funny childhood stories?” You looked up at him curiously. He chuckled, “Who doesn’t?” You laughed and nodded, “Everyone has them, but do you wanna share some of yours?” He could see the hope in your eyes, and he couldn’t just say no!
He nodded with a smile, “I don’t see why not! Let's see, what’s a good one...” he trailed off for a minute before perking up, “Oh! I know! Okay, so when I was younger, and I mean a small little puppet, I would get in to all sorts of trouble.” You looked at him surprised and he noticed. He laughed, pulling you away from the edge of the sidewalk as he ducked under a few taller tree branches, “Yeah, I was a hand full, and despite how tall I am now I was a small kid. This meant that I could hide in places others couldn’t get to. Well, one day I decided to hide in the upper cabinet because I didn’t want a haircut.” He couldn’t help but smile and giggle when you laughed.
You wiped a tear from your eye and took a breather for a second. “Really? You hid from going and getting a haircut?” You had to hold back another fit of giggles as he nodded matter-of-factly. “Yep, I liked my hair as it was back then, it was fun to play with. That and my fuzz was off in places because I had a habit of accidentally cutting it with scissors...” he flushed a little and grinned. Both of you let out a nose of surprise as he walked face-first into a tree branch. He looked surprised and stunned. You started laughing, continuing to hold onto his hand even as you nearly buckled in a fit of laughter.
He seemed to break out of his stunned silence as he started his own fit of giggles, bending down to hold you up with a pair of his arms and moving the tree branch with his fourth arm. He managed to lead you both to a bench where you both calmed down. Neither of you talked for a few minutes, taking a moment to regain the air lost in your laughing fits.
He started his story again, faint chuckles interrupting him a few times, “Eventually though, my mother found me. I ended up scaring the wings off her and missing my appointment! I still had to go a few days later, but it was delayed a little and that was fine in my young mind.” You wheezed and giggled. He smiled and his arms hovered around you to ensure he could catch you if you fell.
Both of you told silly stories from your youth and had to stop a few times from laughing too hard. Eventually, you circled around back to the entrance of the park. “I had fun today.” he muttered. He still held your hand, even lightly squeezing periodically. You smiled and hugged him, taking a deep breath and squeezing him a little. He tensed up, not expecting the hug, but happily returned the embrace.
You let go first, sadly, and took a couple steps back. You had a faint blush covering your cheeks as you smiled, “I had fun too. I'll see you around, and maybe we can have a few more? Dates, I mean.” Howdy quickly nodded, his smile could rival the sun and you almost wished you had sunglasses. You said your final goodbye and started your walk home.
He watched you walk away for a moment before turning to walk to his own home.
It turned out you didn’t live that far away from Howdy. You both found this out when, a few days later, Howdy was playing with his little sister outside. He had been asked to babysit while his parents went on a date and he happily agreed. You happened to be walking by when you saw the pair outside. He had lifted her up and was spinning with her in a pair of his arms. His other pair of arms was splayed out at his sides, helping him keep his balance. You had stopped to watch and didn’t notice the sweet and absolute love-drunk smile adorning your features.
You didn’t even seem to stop the thought that he would make a good dad as it came to the front of your mind. Your own thoughts surprised you and you yelped. Howdy obviously looked over and smiled when he saw you, but he was curious why you were blushing so furiously. You looked like a strawberry! He made quick work of getting to you, his sister held in two of his arms as he brought a hand to your cheek. He asked if you were okay and your blush darkened as you squeaked out, “Yes!” He looked at you skeptically, but backed away a little.
After taking a moment to calm down, you looked at Howdy little sister. She was a small caterpillar similar is color to Howdy, just with a darker green for skin and a beautiful deep navy blue for hair. She looked at you with wonder and you smiled. “Hiya, honey. What’s you’re name?” Your voice was sweet and calm, but she hid in Howdy's arms and looked at you through her lashes. She looked up at Howdy and he nodded with a small smile, “Go ahead, They’re okay.” She nodded, gaining some bravery, and asked to be put down so she could introduce herself. She grinned, holding out a hand to shake, “My name is Heya! You’re very pretty!” You chuckled and took her hand, instead picking her up. You gently booped her nose. “Why thank you. Heya is a very pretty name.” You looked at Howdy as you finished your sentence, your grin teasing, “I see that greetings run in the family for names?” He smiled and nodded. “Mama just likes them, I guess.”
You, despite your other possible plans for the day, ended up spending a good portion of the day with the pair. You still got your shopping done, but you also came out with a bunch of snacks for Heya. She just had the cutest little puppy-dog eyes! You couldn’t resist!
You three had all sorts of fun. You went to the park, of course the grocery store, you even took them to the mall! Yeah, turns out Howdy nor Heya knew what a mall was.
“Holy moly! This place is big!” Heya proclaimed. Her eyes had stars in them as she looked around in wonder, being careful not to fall out of your arms. You giggled and looked over to see Howdy’s reaction, but he was looking at you. He had a soft smile on his face and you blushed, ducking your head with a flustered smile. “It looks fun, bug.” He was looking at the nearby map now with his own blush. Just then, Heya tried to jump out of your arms and run over to where Howdy was standing. You put her down and she ran over to the map, pointing at one of the labels on it, “Can we go here? Can we, please?” She looked between you and Howdy in eager anticipation.
You looked at Howdy playfully, “She’s spoiled, isn’t she?” He laughed and nodded, “Very. Yeah, we can go as long it's okay with bug, okay?” He didn’t even get to finish before she was next to you. You made a show of sighing and nodding. “Fine, we can go,” you look over to Howdy, “where does she want to go?” He looked at the map before chuckling, “Build-a-Bear Workshop? What is that?” You looked at him, completely shocked and partially offended. You grabbed one of Howdy’s hands one of Heya’s, leading them with confidence. “We are going and we are all making one.” You spoke with a finality that Howdy couldn't bring himself to argue against, not that he was going to, of course.
When the three of you walked in, Heya let go of your hand and ran over to the bins to see what plushies they had. You squeezed Howdy’s hand and lead him over there too to search the bins. “Okay, just find an animal you like, okay?” you instructed. He nodded and started looking through the bins. You took a minute to pick your own before looking at their choices. Heya chose a mint axolotl and Howdy chose toothless. You nodded and brought them over to a few stands. “Okay, before we get them stuffed, we need to pick out a scent and a heart for them.” The siblings looked at each other and nodded, looking through the scents after easily choosing a heart. You finished first, knowing what scent you wanted as soon as this place was mentioned.
After scents and voice messages for hearts were recorded, you walked them over to the stuffing station. “Okay Heya, give the nice lady your axolotl.” you didn’t finish before she had already given it to the worker. Heya watched with wonder as the animal was filled with stuffing. Before the animal was closed, Heya was instructed to give the heart a kiss and the scent and heart were put inside. The plush was given back to her and she hugged it to her chest. You went next, kissing the heart and putting the scent and heart inside.
Howdy’s turn came and he chatted with Heya as his was filled. He kissed his heart and the heart and scent were put inside. You guided them to the “washing” station and showed them how to "clean" their new stuffed animals. You and Heya both picked out some accessories and clothes for your plushies.
Howdy bought the plushies even though you said you would. It was sweet, though. He carried his and Heya’s animals and you carried yours. The three of you walked out to Howdy’s car, buckling in and starting the drive home. Not long after the drive started Heya fell asleep holding her axolotl, who she lovingly named Bubbles, to her chest.
It was quiet for a little bit, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. Howdy started to blush a little, one of his arms reaching over to gently hold your hand. He started to softly rub the back of your palm with his thumb, “Hey, bug?” You hummed, turning your full attention to him. He, of course, kept his eyes on the road as he spoke but his eyes would flick over to you. “Uh, I know we’ve only gone on a couple dates, but um...” he trailed off, his cheeks darkening in color and his ears starting to change color too. You started blushing too, squeezing his hand anxiously. “Ah, I'm sorry. I'm not very good at this,” he chuckled and cleared his throat, “Ahem, would...Would you be mine? My partner?”
You could feel your cheeks warm further and a happy laugh build in your throat. “I would love to be yours, Howdy Pillar. If I could hug you I would, but you are driving and that is not a good idea. At all” You knew you had a huge smile of your face, but you also saw the smile on his face. He chuckled too, his eyes flicking over to you again before he pulled into his driveway, “You can give me that hug now!” You practically threw off your seatbelt and threw your arms around him. He laughed and returned the hug. It was a little uncomfortable but neither of you cared.
I hope you all enjoyed! I made this one longer since i realized i got distracted for two weeks. Sorry about that, by the way. This is 2,521 words! This is also for the Anon that requested i do part 3. I’m terribly sorry I’ve been so distracted, but my cat is pregnant and is due any day now. I’ve just been preparing and i got a little side tracked. I’ve also been cleaning out the family storage room with my brother and cousin and it tends to leave me tired. Oh! Before i forget, my requests are open!

Meta: Qualitea in the Orr Empire
Let’s talk tea customs of the Orr Empire. As an avid lover of tea myself, reading Turning was quite entertaining as I could project all my silly little tea headcanons on the characters (but ask me about those another time). From early on in the novel, we see that the Orr Empire does have a distinct tea culture, so this meta will take a look at what teas they drink, what their tea culture looks like, and how skilled our protagonists are at preparing tea (spoiler: they’re not. Everyone say “thank you, Nathan”, the only one who knows how to make a good cup of tea.)
Tea
Tea is a pretty common drink in the Orr Empire, but first, we have to talk about what tea it even is. Now, if you want to be precise and a snob, tea, as per merriam-websters first definition, is “a widely cultivated shrub (Camellia sinensis of the family Theaceae, the tea family) native to China, northern India, and southeastern Asia and having glossy green leaves and fragrant white flowers” and “the leaves, leaf buds, and internodes of the tea plant prepared for use in beverages usually by immediate curing by heat or by such curing following a period of fermentation”. Thus, tea, as a drink, is “an aromatic beverage prepared from tea leaves by soaking them in boiling water”. According to this first definition, tea refers only to the tea plant.
In the Orr Empire, we do know that the tea plant actually exists. In chapter 39, Kishiar makes tea for Yuder specifically using tea leaves and in chapter 51, it is mentioned that Keilusa drinks a “black tea giving off a unique aroma”.
In the Orr Empire, the beverage tea is also made by using “any of various plants“ like tea, which means preparing them “by soaking their parts (such as leaves or roots)“.
So what teas do they drink in the Orr Empire?
Fresh chamomile, which is in season at the start of the novel (Chapter 16)
Black tea (Chapter 51)
Tea made from the leaves of a medicinal herb Rosa Faria la Orr cultivates (Chapter 58)
Tea made from a flower with an “extraordinarily fresh and cool scent” by pouring boiling water over it. The flower grows near Pearl Tower and helps with sleep deprivation, headaches and can be analgesic (Chapter 113, 143).
Tea blends (Chapter 143, 162)
Peppermint tea with honey (Chapter 162)
Tea made of the fluaville flower, which thrives on a barren mountain, devoid of sunlight, rain, and fertile soil (Chapter 167)
Cold tea made of ponegri, which is won by diluting the potent narcotic components of the ponesa plant to edible levels. It reduces pain and has mood-enhancing effects, as well as dulling the surroundings. (Chapter 205)
Bitter herbal teas for medicinal reasons (Chapter 403)
A pale red tea that might be black tea or a rooibos of some kind (Chapter 602)
A Southern tea with mingled sweet fruit and floral scents, rich in aroma and a yellow color. It is probably a green tea blend. (Chapter 919)
If you look at this – dare I say complete – list, you can roughly distinguish between teas drunk for pleasure, which seems to include teas made from the tea plant always, as well as some herbal, predominantly floral teas, and medicinal teas.
The rather high mention of medicinal teas is very much Keilusa la Orr’s fault, who drinks tea predominantly to help with his health condition. It’s also the only time something like honey is added to the tea. Adding milk, for example, isn’t mentioned at all! We also know that there exist teas of varying qualities and that nobles tend to drink higher-quality tea (Chapter 39).
Funnily enough, tea is generally regarded as a warm beverage, you want to drink it hot (Chapter 468). The only exception so far appears to be Katchian’s ponegri tea, which he drinks cold (Chapter 205).
How do you drink tea in the Orr Empire?
Well, first of all, they use teacups and pots! While this might seem like a small detail to you, a proper teacup is shaped to enhance the flavor and fragrance of the tea. Teacups tend to be lighter than coffee mugs and have a broader surface. While they are never particularly described in the novel, besides the note that they are made of porcelain (Chapter 15) the specification that they are for tea is enough to let us conclude that you don’t just drink tea, but that there is a culture associated with it.
Tea Culture in the Orr Empire
Drinking tea, when not for medicinal purposes, is a pleasure drink and appears to be mainly a social convention in the Orr Empire, which also makes it a good gift (Chapter 223). An invitation for tea is an invitation to socialize and get to know another person. Kishiar’s tea sets are made from “beautiful porcelain” (Chapter 15) and there is an art to gracefully preparing tea (Chapter 39, 223, 979). Having tea is not just a nice get-together, even when Duke Diarca enjoys a cup of tea with his close friends (Chapter 385), the preparation method matters. Similarly, even if Kishiar has Nathan fetch cookies, cakes and other sweets because of Yuder’s sweet tooth, it seems to be common to have snacks while having tea. Having popular and famous sweets that complement your tea while you drink it is simply good manners (352).
But the Orr Empire wouldn’t be the Orr Empire if there wasn’t also a class divide about it. Kishiar notes early on that Yuder “won’t have many opportunities to drink tea [he’s] personally prepared” (Chapter 39). Disregarding that this is a fucking lie on Kishiar’s part, the point he, most likely, is trying to refer to here, is that Kishiar, who both as a Duke and thus part of the nobility as well as Yuder’s superior, would not typically make tea for his subordinate.
This holds true for most of the little tea sessions we see in the novel! Nathan prepares Kishiar’s tea (Chapter 16, 58, and most other times Kishiar has tea), the servants of House Apeto prepare the tea for the Cavalry (Chapter 133), Katchian’s servants prepare him his tea (Chapter 205), Yuliver makes Keilusa’s tea (Chapter 303). While all of this is of course also expected of servants, it is also a show of trust as Kishiar points out himself, after all, it would be very easy to poison your employer’s tea (Chapter 16).
We also see that offering tea to your guests is polite, that is if you don’t make them wait for ages as the Apeto do with the Cavalry (Chapter 233). Kiolle also assumes that he’s grown closer to Katchian because they regularly drink tea together (Chapter 586).
So, much like in our world, drinking tea in the Orr Empire is not just necessarily having a cup of tea, but has a rich history.
How do I make a perfect cup of tea aka Kishiyu Cringefail Tea
Kishiar looks graceful preparing tea, but he does not, as far as I can tell, actually make a good cup of tea. Well, so how does one make a good cup of tea?
“Please, take a seat.” After roughly sprinkling the tea leaves that Kanna had once forced onto the two tea cups, a small movement of his finger formed two droplets of water in the air. The droplets divided into two streams, filling each cup. With another flick of his hand, the tea heated to a suitable temperature, steaming in the cups. Looking down at the steamy tea cup, Yuder lightly pushed one toward Kishiar. “Wait until the aroma comes out before you drink.” “You are remarkably efficient in brewing tea. Nathan would be disappointed if he saw this.” “If you have the skill, why not use it?” (Chapter 223)
Well, not like this obviously. Hilariously enough, Kishiar makes tea just the same – scooping leaves into the pot and boiling it after. So according to Nathan’s expert opinion, this is not how you’re supposed to prepare them.
The only prominent life tea culture I could find, by the way, where you boil the tea leaves with the water is the Egyptian Saiidi tea, but that one is sweetened with sugar, and neither Kishiar nor Yuder do that, so I stand by my argument that they both just prepare terrible tea.

Setsugekka, Kurenai, Desire
A missing scene commissioned by @rwbypro featuring Tsubaki and his sublcass post reuniting after the hospital attack. Thank you so much, this was fun to write! Enjoy Tsubaki's weird headspace in this lol
Setsugekka: a snow white camellia cultivar with dark green, slightly matte foliage. Named for the Japanese expression of snow, moon, and flowers, embodying the three whites of the winter, autumn, and spring seasons. Satsuma Kurenai: as the name suggests, the bright red blooms of the kurenai camellia are approximately the size of a satsuma orange. Blooms show a small hint of yellow stamen, making it the true rose of winter Desire: A flashy and showy camellia which features large, up to four inch wide, double flowers in a formal style. Counting up to sixty petals, this pink to white camellia is sure to impress.
Black. White. Red.
Black. White. Red.
Black. White. Red.
The colors of the city at night, illuminated by his lanterns. The ethereal glow reflects off puddles, water, spilled beer, spilled stomachs, dancing on their surface in an eerie parade that would never be seen by mortal eye. Really, no matter how advanced humans became… The squalor of an inner city never changed. Trash. Forgotten, dirty corners. Forgotten, dirty people.
Thousands, at any given time, just out of sight. Abandoned. Betrayed.
Out of sight, out of mind.
Black. White. Red.
Black. White. Red.
Black. White. Red.
Black like bile. White like snow. Red like the camellia, which dies so gracefully. Without a single complaint. Without any inconvenient ugliness.
“I’m taking this city hostage.”
Black. White. Red.
Black. White. Red.
Pink?
Three figures.
A black apron. A white uniform. Red, red eyes, just like his own.
Immediately, his heart lifts.
Someone with a melancholy heart is speaking to him. Someone with a love like fresh snow is telling him something. Someone with hands stained is touching him.
He dislikes this man. But he can’t fault him.
“There! ☆”
What matters the most… Is that his family is safe.
What matters the most is that they’re alive.
“Shamrock won’t be coming. It’s alright, though. Don’t worry about him.”
“Let’s go.”
He’s no longer sure who is following who.
He does know this. He could give a thousand apologies, carefully folded in his mouth like cranes… And it wouldn’t be enough. For the risk he took. For what he put them through. For…
Belkia brushes shoulders with him, energetic and bouncy as ever, and the thought flees from his mind.
The guilt remains, but it gives him perspective.
Black, white, red.
A single wish.
He wonders if that makes him selfish.
***
“You’re quiet. It’s a problem.”
“Is it?”
Otogiri peers at him, sitting with her knees drawn to her chest, fingers wiggling between her bare toes. He really wishes she’d wear shoes more often. There’s too much broken glass around, not just here, in their temporary base as they await the coming of the red moon… But everywhere in Tokyo. Glass, nails, rust…
“You’re spacing out again. Tsubaki-san.”
Her voice, soft and mellow, cuts through his thoughts once more.
“Forgive me. I didn’t mean to zone out.”
“It’s not your fault.”
Without regard for decorum or room for him to posture, she pierces right to the heart of the matter of what had been plaguing him.
“I know that,” he lies even so, and immediately regrets it. She only continues to stare at him. She’s making an effort, he can tell. To hold his gaze. She’s not really one to look directly at others for long periods. Like Lilac, she prefers for attention to slip harmlessly past her, to direct it anywhere else but herself.
“Tsubaki-san is an idiot.” Super blunt!
She sighs and adjusts her position to rest her chin on her knees, one pale, doughy cheek squishing up and doing absolutely nothing to degrade the elegant beauty of her features. His heart aches for her and how far she’s come. “To us. It was more important for you to not go back to that place.” That place of black, and white, and red. “We knew we would be fine. We’re strong, after all.”
“... Yes. You all are.”
“Good. If you understand that… Then please stop pitying us. It’s a problem.”
“Haha… Of course.”

“Penny for your thoughts?”
Tsubaki stares blankly up at his second in command. Higan only continues to look down at him, one arm, the sleeve rolled up to reveal more muscle than you’d expect from an artsy type, and about as much hair as you’d guess for an Italian, pressed against the dirty concrete wall of their little dilapidated parking garage. There’s a quirk to his mouth that says he’s aching for a cigarette. It might be a strange thought, but…
“Was just thinking about how good it is that you were born after opium fell out of fashion.”
Higan coughs on a laugh, shoulders shaking, and Tsubaki watches, distantly hypnotized, as his red hair sways with his movements. It’s beautifully glossy, even in the dim light of flickering overheads, broken and sparking occasionally with their disuse. How he misses their home, not just for its creature comforts, but for the safety it gave, and the bright, warm tinged light of shaded bulbs which cast everything and everyone precious to him in their glow.
“Hoo boy. You really know how to catch this old man off guard, even now.” Higan pushes away and slides to sit next to him instead. Tsubaki can’t help but reach for that cascade, red as fire, and draw it into his lap, just to make sure it doesn’t touch the dirty floor.
Higan smiles and puts his arm around him in turn. “Glad to have you back again, Tsubaki-san.”
The silence is comfortable, and the love unspoken.

Belkia finds him shortly before dawn. Well. Find is a strong word. It’s not like he was particularly trying to hide. He wasn’t, really.
It’s just.
This particular corner was very comfortable. Yes. That was it.
“They took my goddamn glasses.” There’s such an exaggerated pout on Belkia’s face about that, he can’t help but crack a smile.
“That’s very rude. Don’t they have any respect at all?”
“Exactly! Who takes a guy’s glasses?! I’m not at aaaall like that Greed guy! I need these!”
They’d discussed, of course, the practicality of contact lenses, laser eye surgery, you know. Cosmetic things like that. And it was cosmetic, to Belkia at least, just like those see through braces had been (not Invisalign. Some other brand), because in the end it had all come down to style. Belkia simply liked his glasses. Said they gave him an air of intelligent mischief, which had made Tsubaki laugh so hard he’d cried because Bel, his Bel, had been pulling such a serious face with such a silly pose, like an idol or something, or maybe a daytime drama actor. It was, in a word, goofy.
The very same kind of look he was pulling now, actually, head turned every so slightly and eyes narrowed somewhere between a scowl and some attempt at a smoldering gaze.
“A great magician needs to maintain his iconic appearance.”
“PFFFT.” That was it. He was done for. A single line, in a dramatically gravelly voice, pushed him over the edge. Echoing off the walls around them and into the faint glimmer of the Tokyo sunrise, Tsubaki felt his guilt wash away like ash, melt like snow, doused like flames.
Truly, Belkia knew the best magic in the world.

hi fellow bsd enthusiast ? in the most respectful way possible because i don't know how to start this normally
would you like to help an artist out of an art block? just a small personal project.
if so, what flowers do you consider most suitable for your favorite bsd characters?
based on your own preferences. for example: flower symbolism, colors, scenarios you've been thinking about , or from said character's backstory ( or general development ).
though i'd like you to explain if it's a little complicated so i can capture it accurately.
if i manage to finish it, i'll be sure to give credit.
if you're ok with it, thank you. if you aren't, feel free to ignore this ask.
Hello hello! I'd love to help if I can!
Ahaha you know anon I regularly check out flower meanings and stuff like that so this was really fun. I did a selection of characters for you to pick and choose from if you'd like (ones who are on the brain right now) but if this list doesn't include a character you really love and want to draw, then please leave a comment here or send another ask and I'll pick a flower for that character too!
I'm using a mix of hanakotoba and western meanings here.
Yosano - Red Spider Lily (death, abandonment, never to meet again, but can also be a sign that celebration will soon occur - Yosano is drawn with these flowers on the cover of the volume containing her backstory... the number has escaped me sorry. You could also give her the Red Poppy for the wartime connotation if you want extra pain.)
Aya - Black Eyed Susan (the flower of justice! also it's bright and cheery and I thought they suited her)
Wells - Begonia (they are a sign to take caution or warning, much like Wells is a similar sign - they are also associated with deep thought, something that suits her intellectual nature)
Atsushi - Hibiscus (there's a lot I could do for Atsushi but I like this one - these flowers represent a person who is gentle, welcoming and friendly, which reminded me of the way he is usually the one to reach out to people who remind him of his younger self and "welcome" them into a new chapter of their lives)
Kyouka - Violet (I am unsure what the flowers are in her hair exactly, and while Kyouka loves hydrangeas the meaning doesn't apply to her - I picked violets as they mean honesty, watchfulness and loyalty, things that apply to her quite well, but also because the Japanese word for violet is "sumire"... which is the same name as her seiyuu :D)
Akutagawa - Hydrangea (oof this was a hard one. These flowers have wildly contrasting meanings, ranging from pride, to gratitude for being understood, to a cold person. All of which I feel represents him fairly well. Their flowers can also change colour depending on the pH of the soil in which they were planted - something that calls to mind Akutagawa's differing paths in canon vs beast depending on where he was "planted".)
Higuchi - Yellow Tulip (one-sided love. rip girl. can also mean sunshine-smile and a trustworthy person though so it's still sweet and suits her character.)
Mushitarou - Aloe (Associated with grief and affection, but outwardly it looks spiky and rather unfriendly (well I suppose. I think aloe plants are cute personally). Has a nice green colour and is cultivated and used for all sorts of practical purposes, much like Mushitarou is constantly being captured and sought after for the use of his ability. Sorry lol)
Jouno - Dahlia (another tricky one... dahlias can have negative meanings such as dishonesty and instability, but largely the positive ones overtake that - being symbols of positive change, dignity, and inner strength. They can also symbolize having good taste, something I'm sure he believes he has, at least over Tecchou lol)
Chuuya - Peach Blossom (I could've gone the official skk route and said red camellia... but I like the meaning of momohana much better for Chuuya, and it's also the flower people send to the real poet's museum - I believe he liked them. They represent the transience of life and the importance of every moment. They begin to grow in winter and bloom in the spring - symbolizing the transition from hardship to growth. They are also apparently considered somewhat protective against evil spirits, which fits well into his role as protector)
Teruko - Larkspur (symbolizes commitment to responsibility and duty, as well as pride and the capacity to face challenges directly. They can also be used to symbolize youth as well as remembrance - which I think captures that age ability she has. Once we learn more about her I might be able to find a better flower, but I wanted this to go by what we know so far, not my own headcanons about her for which I have several).
Nikolai - Strelitzia (Meaning joy, freedom and immortality, also known as the Bird of Paradise flower. It's a very striking and unusual looking flower that I'm sure Nikolai would enjoy. I had wanted to give him a flower that's important symbolically in Ukraine, but I didn't feel the meanings of the ones I found made a lot of sense... unless you'd like to get ironic with it and give him the Mallow, which symbolizes love and attachment for family, homeland and potentially a lover - like the way he has yet to fully break free from these tethers, hard as he tries)
I have images for reference here and here. I hope this helps!
