◎BEN drowned/Ben Lawman◎

- Died at thirteen, but he’s able to take form of whatever age he wants. Usually presents as sixteen to eighteen since most of his friends are in that age range. Technically he’s about sixteen now.

- About 5’8, but he can levitate when he’s a ghost.

- White with Swedish backgrounds. He was born in Idaho.

- He doesn’t constantly have blood coming out his eyes, it slowly comes out over time.

- Mainly talks to Jeff, Ben, Nina, Lost Silver, and Toby. Him, Toby, and Jeff usually hang out the most together, even though they don’t really get along most of the time. Ben’s really just the common denominator. Nina and him are both pretty internet involved, so they’re able to bond over that.

- Most of the time he chooses to be in his ghost form since he doesn’t require any sleep or food, but when he’s in his human form it’s nice to feel normal.

- When he’s human he is COLD. Constantly wears hoodies and pants, you can never catch him in t-shirts or shorts.

- He has an overwhelming amount of burner accounts that he cyber bullies people on, sometimes even the other residents. Him and Nina team up on kids on Roblox.

- Absolutely never drinks water. When he’s in his human form it would be in his best interest to, but he still doesn’t. Goes through about ten energy drinks and Mountain Dews a day.

- Him and Jeff almost exclusively eat fast food, usually together. He can steal whatever money he wants and cash it out or use it on a card, so they get whatever they want. They both get way too much food. Sonic and Wendy’s enthusiast.

- Unbearably sarcastic. You can’t say ANYTHING around this guy without getting picked on or teased, even if you’re friends. He’s more mean if he doesn’t like you, but if you’re closer he’s a little nicer.

- Completely relies on autocorrect, he can’t spell anything. Most of the time his texts are so incoherent even auto correct can’t help him, so all of his messages just look like gibberish. Nina can understand most of it, Jeff cannot whatsoever.

- He constantly has his hair in a ponytail, doesn’t wear his hat very often. He steals hair ties from pretty much every girl in the mansion, as does Jeff. They both feel awkward buying them in person so they either break into rooms and take them or they find them on the ground.

- Talks in brain rot way too often. Usually he’s being ironic, for the most part. Constantly quotes old vines or extremely niche, chronically online references.

- Actually really enjoys being around Toby, despite Jeff ranting his ear off about how much he hates him. Toby’s easy for him to get along with and he’s not as much of a douchebag as Jeff.

- When he’s human his eyes are still black and red, so if anyone asks while he’s in public he just says he’s wearing contacts.

- He doesn’t go outside very often. To him it’s the most boring thing ever, he’d rather stay in. Toby tries to get him to go out in the yard with him or go on walks, but after the first few times Ben realized it wasn’t his cup of tea.

- His room is surprisingly cool. He has a lot of trinkets and merchandise from his favorite games/ shows. His whole room is pretty much a clash of all his interests.

- Plays pretty much every genera of game. you can’t convince me he doesn’t have an established Stardew Valley file.

- Doesn’t really kill people unless they are trying to research the proxy symbol or anything else that could expose the mansion.

- He reminds me so much of Rigby from The Regular Show, it’s crazy.

Better than the alternative of having to pick up everything yourself. A family a few streets down from your place of work generously donated the left over trinkets from their yard sale - agreeing to leave everything at the back door on their way out of town. Most of the boxes had already been taken in - a fact you knew thanks to the sticky note taped to the top of the container.

"Morning, Love. ♡ Carried in most of the boxes myself. Could you kindly bring this one in? It's a little too heavy for me.

See you this afternoon! - Auntie"

You slip the paper into your pocket, making a mental note to check up on your boss before then. She wasn't your real aunt, but she acted as much. Probably pays you a bit more than she should with her always trying to take your job off your hands and let you rest. Her kindness is one of few reasons you can't up and leave this place.

Lifting the box off the ground, you kick the ajar door open with your foot - balancing the heavy box in your arms as you slip through. You walk through the back office up to the front front desk. You search the cubby beneath the table for a box cutter, nails latching onto the rubber handle as you stretch your arm to the far back. You stand up - only to find that the box appears to have been torn open by something. The entire top looks to have been ripped off and tossed across the room.

Sighing, you brace yourself for what's to come - wishing you had had just a few more minutes to yourself. You place the box cutter back where it came from to prevent yourself from causing anymore damage to the merchandise.

"Hello....Dear...."

Static hisses from the worn out speakers of the device your tormentor uses - overlaying the awful amalgamation of voices its stolen from customers. Being unable to communicate due to the limitations of their vessels it had to find some other way to speak to you. That alternative wind up being a soundboard someone brought in a few weeks into your employment. Everyday since you berate yourself for not taking that damn thing out back and smashing it..... Or just purchasing it yourself and taking it off the property.

"I've been waiting for you......all night. New.... treasures for us?

A hand reaches over your shoulder and begins to shift through the box - the creaky moan of its joints reverbing from the wooden shell encircling them. The mannequin had proved to be the spirit's favorite body. Near identical to a human form despite the lack of a face, the ability to speak, and one of its arms after a guests insisted on paying for the singular pair. It made due with items it found around the shop. The sound board, an old Halloween mask to disguise its blank fact, a limb from another figure in the shop though it wasn't as articulated as the previous.

The spirit tosses items it finds no interest in at the floor - your skin jumping as glass shatters in the distance. Halfway through the box its sporadic movements hault - the springs in its neck screaming out as its head falls to its shoulder. Using the flat palm of their other hand as a perch, the mannequin pulls out a ring box. It opens the box, a pearl ring housed inside. You were expecting - and praying for it to be empty. You meet the mannequin's sightless gaze over your shoulder.

"No."

Its fingers rapidly tap at its soundboard - slamming down on every sweet name in arsenal.

"Darling....."

"Angel..."

"Sweetheart."

"Love?"

"I'm not letting you put that on me."

The mannequin slams its hand on the counter- repeatedly jabbing a single button.

"Love? Love? Love?"

"Knock it off!"

You make a grab for the board, but the damned thing is quicker. It holds the device over its head out of reach - twirling the ring around its pinky finger. There was only one thing you could do to buy it compliance.

You hold up your left hand, sticking out your ring finger. "Just get it over with."

The mannequin sets the soundboard on the counter - clapping its hands together as it kneels. It takes your hand, pressing the mouth of its mask to your knuckles before slipping the ring onto your finger. Surprisingly enough, it's almost a perfect fit. A little wiggle room, but not so much that it would fall off from you moving around. The mannequin bounces back to its feet, throwing its arms around you.

Your dating life was hard already - it'll be pretty difficult to find anyone what with you now being spiritually married to a sentient mannequin possessed by the ghost of someone likely as old as this building.

Joshua’s plan was to go to the closest liquor store, convenience store, hell even pharmacy to get a couple of sick packs of whatever to satisfy the wheat cravings of whoever would enjoy a beer at the party–a likely chance of 90% of them–all while getting over his hangover from yesterday’s party. He didn't bother doing his hair or putting on something particularly fashionable or eye-catching, but maybe he should’ve considering the cashier up front was the sexiest head and torso he’s ever seen working retail. He can only imagine how they would be bottom-down if they were gorgeous top-up.

His teeth dig at his bottom lip, waiting last in line behind five to six people, agonizingly getting closer to the end of his gatherer journey. In the meantime, he could observe the unbothered expression on your face, seeing you complete the bare minimums of your job: swiping, scanning, ID checking, and the occasional hair toss to get strays to sway from your eyes. Before he knew it, it was his turn, figuring it was at least it was nice while it lasted.

You don’t look up to meet his eyes and instead bore ahead of him like a 10-yard stare. He places the merchandise on the counter in front of you, and you sigh, thinking to yourself it’s another unhinged frat part from the college town a few streets over. “ID, sir.”

He plucks it from his leather wallet, tattered with age and poor maintenance, handing the plastic over to you for validation. You retrieve it, briefly brushing against his burly fingertips, you examine it in a quick scope, checking the date of birth and stopping at the photo. You’re pleasantly surprised by a handsome face. You ascend your gaze, seeing the identification matching perfectly with its owner, just slightly rougher around the edges in much more casual clothing.

You clear your throat, trying not to let the doe-shape of his eyes throw you for a loop, or the curve of cupid’s bow let your mind wander on how they’d feel against your skin, maybe burning with every touch. You bite the inside of your cheek, handing it back to him, his hand that made contact with yours once already feels different the second time around, almost electrifying.

“$42.80.”

Joshua sighs, inserting the card into the chip reader. You watch the screen try processing the card but sees the opposite happen. “It declined.”

He doesn’t pay mind the first time and reattempts the application, only for it to repeat. His eyes shoot open the second time, he examines the card for him and sees it’s past his expiration date, remembering that he left the new version at his dorm. “Shit.”

He looks through his wallet for cash; a lone ten-dollar bill occupies the sleeve and he looks up sheepishly. “Is there a payment plan or something?”

You raise a brow at him in confusion. “No.”

He grows a deeper shade of red as he looks deeper in his pockets for something, anything, only for them to come up empty. “I’m not broke I swear.”

“Are you going to pay or not, Sir?”

He rests the balls of his palms on the counter in frustration, cursing at himself for being so ill-prepared, embarrassing himself in front of the hot checkout person. He finally runs a hand through his hair and nods at himself, coming to terms with the inconvenience, barely meeting your eyes. “I can’t pay, sorry.”

When he’s about to leave, you feel the sense of pity anchor in your stomach and you stop him. “Hey, so you planned on buying a lot of beer, and it’d be a hassle to put it all back.”

“I can help put it back.”

You shrug, “I’ll just pick up the tab.”

He blinks back at you in surprise. “What? You can't do that.”

“Of course, I can.”

“I mean you shouldn’t.”

You side grin. “You’d just owe me. Come closer.”

He does as you ask. Your upper body leans forward, merely inches away from his face, his eyes shooting up at the proximity. You reach over for the phone in his pocket and pull back, typing your number in and letting your phone ring at the incoming call. “Now I can call you forever, and you can’t avoid me.”

“That’s until I change my number.”

“You won’t. You don’t even have money for beer.”

He snickers. “Touché, but I do have an offer that might work out.”

There is not much offered in his words, but his tone does all the work. His eyes lock with you daringly, yet somewhat hopeful. He leans over and spiders his hand over the counter, a single digit brushing against your knuckle. You quirk a brow, a quiet laugh leaves your lips and you notice a temping smile on his. He tilts his head, practically beckoning at you in this subtle graceful way that isn’t too much but gets his point across.

“What kind of offer is that? Joshua.” You just happened to catch his name from his ID, whatever.

“Depends, if you’re interested. Y/n.” And he can read name tags.

Besides the pop music playing from the store speakers, it was quiet and he was the only customer in sight. In your experience, these were the hours of the dead since weekend nights are most typically when people go out to drink rather than buy it from a store unless they were like Joshua, you guess. If he was responsible, he’d buy it in the morning or the afternoon, way before the party, not trying to sleep his way get some mid-grade beer.

“In what world do you think your offer would help me?”

“You haven’t looked away from me the moment you saw me. That counts for something.”

Maybe it did, and more than you’d admit to a measly stranger, but this stranger was cute, dare you say hot. As if your impulses take over, you become highly aware of the fact there are no cameras in the backroom and a whole array of security inside that you could watch the store without worrying about leaving your station unattended.
