Thoughts on Maddi

so, apparently hating/not hating maddi is kind of a touchy subject for some people, but i have some thoughts on her too.

we know that maddi is beautiful and a witch. the only other things we know about her is that she so badly harassed diavolo in an attempt to get him to marry her that he actually almost had to give in, and did something to mammon that traumatised him so badly he came home crying, stopped spending money for a while and experienced night terrors. she also pursued and harassed lucifer, who has a chat in which he specifically says he couldn't get rid of her because of her status.

we don't know what exactly she did to mammon, but solmare did clarify that it wasn't sexual assault, and that's all the insight we have.

i totally understand the criticism of misogyny in this fandom — thirteen haters i will find you — but the widespread hatred of maddi does not stem from misogyny. it comes from the fact that the only things we know about her point to the fact she sexually harasses people and did something bad enough to traumatise one of the main love interests in the story, who of course people are going to sympathise with.

in fact, and this may be controversial, i think people trying to defend her stems from sexism more than the hatred of her does. like it or not, there is still a stigma around accepting men can be victims of harassment by women. that inherently stems from the belief that women are incapable, and men as the "superior" gender can't be taken advantage of.

as much as i hate the "imagine if the roles were reversed" argument usually, i will actually use it here just because i think it fits. imagine if lucifer and diavolo were female characters and maddi was male. imagine how the stories about her harassing diavolo into a romantic relationship and outright refusing to leave him alone would be interpreted then.

anyway, maddi is a cool and interesting character to think about, but fuck her.

I think I see Apollo's character as very much not subservient to Kristoph Gavin. Even when he was working for him. Someone pointed it out in my fic comments and I'm glad they did because it's part of Apollo's nature to me that he argues and clashes with authority even before Phoenix manipulates him. Apollo was starry-eyed at the beginning but he was still quite suspicious and sassy, which I immediately liked about him. @katrinakaiba understands.

Like for example, after the Judge talks about Kristoph being the "best attorney in town" Apollo thinks to himself "Yeah, Gavin's got skills, but does he have Chords of Steel?". Granted he didn't say that out loud, he does have respect for his mentor. But merely the fact that he thinks this shows that while he looks up to Kristoph, there's a level of snark there in his mind. And Kristoph even tolerates Apollo's snark levels at certain points, especially insofar as it's directed towards Phoenix or Payne. He does pipe up about manners when Apollo makes a comment about the Judge's hearing. This is probably just something he's trying to teach Apollo about how you should act in front of the Judge, though (which is why it's so funny when Kristoph gets lightly reprimanded by the Judge later for sarcastic remarks)

Apollo absolutely describes Kristoph as his "trusted mentor" in the Profiles section, and in the French translation adds "I owe him everything". There's a lot of loyalty there, and the fact that Apollo does feel comfortable being himself in front of Kristoph generally is, to me, a sign that their relationship was quite warm and familiar as opposed to a master who disciplines a student harshly. Kristoph actually seems fairly selective about the guidance that he does provide, encouraging Apollo to try to figure it out by himself first before turning to him for help. He does talk over Apollo a bit, but that's more due to the scenario (even though, I'm sure it happened a lot even outside of court). He seems to be a bit more focused on making sure that Apollo understands (1) how to build a case, (2) how to avoid committing a social faux pas in court, and (3) how to corner a witness, which are all actually really useful.

I really want to explore this characterization more because it says a lot about how Kristoph really was, a kind teacher whom nobody would suspect. It's difficult to believe how someone so pleasant could hide so much, so easily.

Feeling sentimental rn bc I just remembered that I’ve been in the haikyuu fandom for nine years (don’t talk about my gap years okay we leave them out of this) and now I have a little corner of the internet where I can scream about Haikyuu and people might even ENJOY IT??

Idk. It just makes me smile bc I found this little fandom by complete accident and no I don’t have the ability to tell you how or why, just know it altered my brain chemistry and now im here with the single coolest hobby I could possibly imagine with some of the coolest people I know.

Gnawing on the bars of my enclosure thinking about Opal Beifong.

The childhood of self worth issues as she is born a nonbender. And the fear of replacement when her family adopts Kuvira. And she lashes out and is a mean little girl and I love that for her. And its the rediscovery of self when she gets airbending and gerting the confidence to breakaway from the family she loves. But she also becomes seperate from her family in some strange way and it's bittersweet. And then she doesn't really fit in with soem of the Air Nomad ideals. And she's still deeply tied to her family and she's just so protective of them. And she immediately clocks her fascist siblings bullshit and she tries so hard to make everyone see but No One listens and she has the right to be so furious at everyone but she still tries to help them and she saves her family with only her loser ex boyfriend and cranky aunt and cranky grandma and then she immediately gets yeeted to the love interest zone. She means so much tl me. She holds grudges but she's also so kind but she's also mean and she's biased but she cares so much for others and she's one of the best tlok characters.

Another DPXDC post for the first time

Yall remember winged danny? Yea me too the good ol days lads

But imagine Danny in Gothem cause hes either on the run from his family or the GIW you decide boys on the run and probably alone.

He gets picked up by the Waynes at some point and eventually he goes to have the “im not normal talk” but they all know. He is a meta or something. They have been waiting for him to be ready to tell them, if ever. They would accept him no matter what.

Except the time comes and he just “I have wings” and like everyone is shocked™️ Danny gets the idea hes about to be rejected and starts to fold in on himself and someone better snap out of it before the kid cries. Alfred is the one to speak first probably.

Just everyone so shocked but I mean it’s more a shock that they missed this instead of that Danny has wings. After that they fully accept him and apologise. Someone says the “we thought you were about to tell us about your powers!” Danny just has his own little moment before shouting “YOU GUYS KNOW I HAVE GHOST POWERS!?!?!!!?”

Anyway they move on and Danny hardly brings the wings up again but he does get seen around with them every once in a while. But eventually they find out hes not taking care of them as he should. It’s probably Duke who sees Danny with his messy wings and offers to help him.

Let Danny get help with self care ok. The Bats would all go nuts learning how to take care of Danny if he ever asks.

Now imagine the reverse of this and they all know he has wings but not that hes the High Ghost King Phantom.
