Speaking of awards, how about the VGAs limiting acceptance speeches to 30 seconds max? The highlights for me were when Astarion’s voice actor got cut off while he was explaining how the character meant so much to him as a survivor of abuse, the game dev who got cut off when he tried to dedicate his speech to a coworker who passed away, and Eiji Aonuma getting cut off while using a translator to give his speech. All so they could cram in as many game trailers and awkward celebrity cameos as possible. Oh, and a 10 minute segment with Hideo Kojima, because he’s special I guess.
Just an absurd level of disrespect towards the people that are supposedly there to be honored.

Respectfully, elain and Nesta both had their life taken from them in the cauldron as a consequence of Feyre’s actions. Never mind that the father was responsible for his children, even if you blame Nesta and elain for not hunting— they both got their comeuppance when they were dragged from their beds in the middle of the night. They both housed Feyre and her friends at their home despite the steep risk and rightful fear of the fae. Everything they do to help Feyre after Turning is extra. If the sisters were to keep count and tally points against each other, Feyre needs to step up her game.
The narrative is admittedly warped but any level of reading comprehension should let readers see that continuously ragging on Nesta and elain under the banner of them being older and therefore responsible for hunting is ridiculous. Even if you’re willing to die on that hill, Nesta and elain literally died.
When Feyre was killed UTM and turned fae it happened because she went back for true love, she went for Tamlin. She fell in love with a fae and was friends with lucien. Nesta and elain were killed for their involvement with Feyre. They hated the fae, lost everything after turning. Feyre was given more and more power, friendship, love and acceptance. Nesta and elain lost their home, their inheritance, and forced into indentured servitude, with Feyre herself thinking about how to force Nesta to do her bidding during the war.
At the end of the day, Feyre has 5 mansions and became the very thing she hated in those first few chapters everyone wants to bring up so much. Feyre went hunting and her sisters didn’t. Now, Nesta is forced to hunt the trove and fight in their wars and seduce court allies while Feyre sits on her ass and does nothing.

The only stereotypically masculine thing about Aang…is his romantic arc
There’s a really popular post on Tumblr called “Avatar Aang, Feminist Icon.” The thesis is basically that Aang, unlike his female teachers and friends, is actually not a badass. He listens, he defers, and he respects women. He seemed to have no problem with Katara’s crush on Jet, despite his own crush on her. He chooses love and kindness and friendship and pacifism. He’s not tall and handsome as hell or buff. He wears flower crowns!
And I agree! This is Aang for most of the series and I love those qualities (though I do think the bar is in hell if those traits make a character a feminist icon, as opposed to a person who simply sees women as human beings). Anyway, I just think there’s a glaring omission. And that’s Aang’s romantic arc in season 3.
Bryke managed to take the worst of both worlds: Aang’s romantic arc retains the male-centricity that make most romances so problematic, while retaining none of the characteristics that make problematic romances compelling to women.
Aang falls in love at first sight with a beautiful girl. For the majority of their friendship, he remains respectful and supportive. As his crush hits an all time high, however, it gets distinctly more stereotypical: he kisses Katara at the invasion, and when she didn’t want to talk about that kiss, he firebends at her (the fact that this comic is canon, and was published years after ATLA’s conclusion, only demonstrates that the creators still don’t understand critiques of their romance). Aang considers Katara “his girl” and becomes furious (“I would be in the Avatar state right now!”) when the actress version of Katara didn’t like him romantically, and then he kisses her again — this time explicitly against her wishes. Throughout the show, people reassure him that she will come around, continuously reinforcing the idea that Katara is “his” and he just has to be patient. And even though Ka/taang is supposed to be endgame, we never hear directly from Katara how she feels, even though we’re no strangers to her opinions and feelings on other topics. It’s almost like the creators wanted Katara’s feelings to be a mystery because we’re meant to resonate with Aang. That’s…a male-centric, action hero romance.
In addition, the friendship dynamics between Katara and Aang feel pretty gendered. The distribution of emotional labour between Aang and Katara is quite skewed: Katara takes care of Aang much more than he takes care of her. She’s the one responsible for calming him down from the Avatar State. She’s the one who cooks for him and performs a whole lot of domestic chores. Post-canon, Katara’s storyline revolves around Aang, and she’s treated as his accessory and the keeper of his legacy instead of her own person, to the degree that she’s not even recognizable in LOK anymore. A beautiful, badass, independent woman who dedicates her energy and intelligence to a man’s needs? Wow, that is definitely something I’ve never seen in media geared towards men!
A lot of gushing about Aang’s lack of stereotypical masculinity seems to also hinge on how Aang is not conventionally attractive, but that’s…not true. Aang may not behave like James Bond, but he has plenty of admirers. Meng and On Ji liked him even without knowing that he’s the Avatar. Post-series, Acolytes descend en masse to steal Katara’s man. And of course he grows into a tall, buff dude. Aang’s romantic arc is not about becoming attractive to women, or finding a woman who loves him despite his looks. His romantic arc is about getting the girl who’s hard to get, because she only sees him as a friend or a little brother / babysitting charge.
Bryke do not deserve the credit for creating a “feminist icon,” not when the only stereotypically masculine traits they gave him are in relation to his romance arc. It honestly feels more insidious this way, because it’s like, “see? You don’t have to be masculine to reap the benefits of performing masculinity” — the benefits being, of course, “getting” the girl you want.

you know what’s so crazy interesting? how in 13 fucking pages, rhys didn’t say sorry, not once. his entire monologue was essentially just “look at how tragic i am, don’t you feel bad for me feyre.”
t h i r t e e n pages 515 - 528, and not a single apology. he even admits that he hurt feyre!
Tumblr media
still does not apologize!
buuuuutttt guess who said sorry when she hurt feyre. nesta fucking archeron
Tumblr media
no excuses, no sob story. she’s just truly sorry.
oh but it’s nesta that’s irredeemable.
it’s nesta that doesn’t deserve forgiveness.
it’s nesta that hurt feyre the most in her entire life.
it’s nesta that hasn’t done nearly enough to earn her sister’s love.
it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nesta, it’s nes—

‘dumb jock’
‘rubbish liar’
‘hair-trigger temper’
‘spineless pushover’
‘poor table manners’
‘illegible penmanship’
‘unintelligible speech’
‘gauche and uncouth’
‘bit of a blundering buffoon’
‘wears his emotions like a traffic cone’
‘so oblivious he can’t see his own nose’
‘couldn’t organise a piss-up in a brewery’
‘brute forces his way without a semblance of plan’
— harry james potter, as wonderfully depicted by the fandom at large but entirely, fundamentally, unfortunately, out of character
pardon me, but is that an oc born of your poor comprehension and fevered imaginations?
what’s wrong with harry as he is? don’t demean him just to elevate your favourites. if you don’t genuinely appreciate him or his canon characteristics, his actual flaws and strengths—not ones you must exaggerate or fabricate—then why waste your time focusing on him?

Bro why is the bar for twitter people in the st fandom literally in hell , like they make me feel smart fr.
I feel like the van’s scene is so easy to understand but some people still fail to grasp the nuances of it , like hello ????? 😭😭
No Emily , what Will said does not apply to El as well. El doesn’t need Mike like that , and that’s okay. Does it mean she loves Mike any less or that she doesn’t want him in her life ? Of course not. But s4 was literally her journey to independence , finally growing out of her insecurities of being needed and wanted by Mike only because of her powers.
And that is literally why Will lying about his feelings , disguising them as El’s for the greater good , and Mike finding out about the painting are going to be MAJOR plot lines in s5.
Like ain’t no way I got told that I’m making shit up and I’m trying to say that Will needs Mike while El doesn’t.
El definitely wants Mike in her life , but the point is that Will NEEDS Mike in the way Mike wants to be needed. And I don’t even say this with shipping in mind , but that is just a matter of fact and why the painting plot line is still so important. Will is the one seeing Mike as his protector , as a though and throughout paladin. Like the cast said many times , it’s Will who wishes to play dnd and Nintendo in Mike’s basement with him for the rest of his life. And that’s okay , that doesn’t take away anything from El’s feelings like some people make it want to seem like.
Two things can coexist at once because El and Will love Mike in two different ways , and what Mike needed to hear steams from his own depression and self worth issues.
That is why the van scene and Will’s lies are so important. Because Mike IS DEFINITELY, without any kind of doubt , going to discover that the painting is Will’s. How things will unfold after that can only be known by the duffer brothers as of now , but it is a fact that the kind of love Mike wants is the one that Will can provide him.
Does it mean that I’m trying to say that El doesn’t love Mike and Will is some damn of damsel in distress that always needs saving ??? No, and I know for a fact Will can stand his own as well and actually appreciates when he doesn’t get treated as something delicate going to fall apart any time soon.
Does this also mean that Melvin is bones ? Girl I don’t fucking know and I don’t fucking care. Does this also mean that byler is endgame and El’s feelings don’t matter ? No and I don’t fucking know how Mike will react to the truth.
But some people are watching the show without even getting the meaning of the characters’ actions and it baffles me I’m so serious rn

In honor of Mha’s conclusion, I’m finally posting the sketches I did of Fuyumi if she was the one who became a villain instead of Touya.
This version of her is inspired by the art @nev4chii did of her with Dabi’s scars and hair dye and partially inspired by the Dabi!Fuyumi au by @cyber-phobia

I don’t bother discussing or defending the cabin years because I simply do not believe they justify any of Nesta’s treatment. Even if I went as far as to call Nesta abusive, I don’t know why I’m supposed to care about stuff that barely happens on page seeing as Feyre, Rhys, and Cassian are all far more abusive to her than she ever is during the actual events of the story.

While I’m a big fan of the “Von Karma being a piece of shit mentor and father figure to Edgeworth” concept and there is definitely some truth to those statements, I also wanna address the fact that it is canon that Von Karma was a good mentor to Edgeworth and growing up in that household wasn’t as horrific as it may seem at first glance. Frankly if it was, Edgeworth wouldn’t have been manipulated like he was.
Now just taking that into consideration, that makes the moment Edgeworth finds out what actually happened to his dad so much more heartbreaking. When mini Miles lost his dad, that was his world taken from him. He didn’t have any other relatives to go to and no direction in life. Then in steps a man who he knew his father respected to some degree, offering him a home and guidance, teaching mini Miles everything he knows and inspiring him. The ruthless God of prosecutors himself helping Edgeworth build himself up again.
Then he finds out that the one man who stepped in, the one he was willing to follow, was the very same man who caused his suffering in the first place. Not only that, but he’s spent so long following his teachings, that he himself has essentially become just another version of the man who caused his suffering. And to add fuel to the fire, that father figure clearly knew of Edgeworth’s survivors guilt and PTSD and used it against him and went as far as to frame him for murder.
It is honestly a wonder to me how Edgeworth didn’t completely break down right then and there in the courtroom. Von Karmas betrayal of Edgeworth is definitely talked about a lot in the fandom but the added context of what isn’t shown in the game or anime just makes it all the more heartbreaking
Edit: doing an edit on this post cuz I feel like I didn’t communicate what I wanted the best I could. My bad, y’all. This isn’t me saying that there wasn’t abuse at play. There was. Manfred was very obviously emotionally neglectful of Edgeworth and Franziska and instilled a perfectionist complex in both of them. That much is clear by the way Edgeworth speaks with him in a strictly business like manner. But I think it’s important to acknowledge that while Manfred was a shitty father figure, he still showed Edgeworth some form of kindness over the years. (I also believe that it has been confirmed that he was a good mentor to Miles but if I’m wrong about that let me know). We see that in the anime in particular where it’s shown he favoured Miles over Franziska. And also that’s how abuse works. The abuser will show kindness to their victim because otherwise they can’t manipulate the victim as easily. Manfred isn’t a good person but I think it’s important to look at his relationship with Edgeworth with a bit of nuance. Miles knew Manfred wouldn’t show him mercy in the court room because he knows how important his win record is. That doesn’t take away from the fact that he showed Edgeworth some form of kindness over the years. In my opinion, it just makes the whole situation more tragic

what is with people on tiktok and them getting mad as hell when pronouns, gender, and sex of lesbians are discussed; genuinely. Like, I saw someone make a cute hc for Vi that since she knows it might be a little easy to mistake her for a dude. So she doesn’t really care if someone calls her by he/him cause she knows that’s what appearances gives off…the way the comments were so mean. Or when we start talking about transmasc Vi hcs. They get so offended for no reason like butches can’t be transmasc and lesbian
