Speaking of awards, how about the VGAs limiting acceptance speeches to 30 seconds max? The highlights for me were when Astarion’s voice actor got cut off while he was explaining how the character meant so much to him as a survivor of abuse, the game dev who got cut off when he tried to dedicate his speech to a coworker who passed away, and Eiji Aonuma getting cut off while using a translator to give his speech. All so they could cram in as many game trailers and awkward celebrity cameos as possible. Oh, and a 10 minute segment with Hideo Kojima, because he’s special I guess.
Just an absurd level of disrespect towards the people that are supposedly there to be honored.

Hope to see some crazy ass Kojima made trailer for Death Stranding 2 tonight at the game awards. Seeing the weird and captivating trailer for his upcoming game is one of the high lights each year.

Forget high skill floors and people who say "git gud".
I wanna know how many people are turned away from the medium after seeing the Ad shows and finding absolutely nothing worth playing except for the people who were gracelessly shooed off the stage after rightfully winning an award who wanted to talk about their dead colleague.
I wanna see who gets turned away by people who are absolutely ashamed to be in the medium they claim to enjoy after putting nothing but celebrity actors and fucking muppets in something that's supposed to be about videogames.
I wanna see who gets turned away by the entire surface level landscape being nothing but "look how much money i put into this account lol, i puke rainbows as an emote!" and correctly getting a shitty first impression of a community dominated by rich, actually elitist assholes.
#vga 2023#fuck AAA i stg#not that i wouldnt mind some sort of muppets point and click game tbh. only time i would accept a muppet on stage#i guess segas doing some interesting stuff too at least... wish there was literally any more detail than a fucking hype reel#almost none of the fucking ads contained ANY gameplay either. literally worthless “cinematic” trailers

VCF Southwest
This was the first time I've been able to attend a VCF, and it was the first held in the Dallas area in over a decade. I was lucky enough to participate as both event staff, helping to plan and run the show, and as an exhibitor. It was exhausting, it was overwhelming at times, and I nearly lost my voice by the end of the first day ... But it was also an incredible experience and I really enjoyed it.
I brought a few of my projects to show off. First and foremost was my Wrap030-ATX project, which I paired with a Wyse WY-30 terminal I rescued from Computer Reset, and had running a demo program for printing names on my recently-repaired Apple ImageWriter II/L. Next to that was my Wrap030 board stack running a Mandelbrot fractal renderer using its 68882 FPU and video generator cards. Then came the Mac SE from Computer Reset I repaired, with my SE-VGA card driving an external monitor, and running Oregon Trail (always a crowd favorite!). Finally I had my Franken-Plus, which sadly suffered a power supply failure early on the first day and sat dark all weekend.
My exhibit was situated just down the row from @commodorez , who won the show's Best Microcomputer award for his "VICs that aren't 20" exhibit of rare and lesser-known Commodore computers. Across from Commodore-Z was Usagi Electric, who won Best in Show for his exhibit of the Centurion, a PDP-11, and his vacuum tube computer.
I had a great time talking to Commodore-Z, @ms-dos5 , Usagi Electric, Nybbles and Bytes, Macintosh Librarian, Retrotech Chris, Kevin & Michael of the Turbo 9 Team, Al Williams, and so many more wonderful people that I couldn't even begin to catch names for.
I also got to go into deep-dive discussions on very specific details about my projects with people who already knew so much more about the components and the tools that I'm using than I do. It's energizing to be around people that understand the work that goes into these projects and appreciate what I've accomplished.
The show was so much bigger than I anticipated. Including staff, volunteers, sponsors, speakers, exhibitors, and attendees, we saw nearly 900 people come through the main hall over the course of the weekend. Seminars were full, with CuriousMarc's presentation on Restoring the Apollo Guidance Computer forming an imposing line for entry well ahead of the scheduled start of the talk. We had incredible community turnout; it was great to see entire families come through with awestruck small children in tow.
There was so much to see and do, so many people to talk to. The entire weekend is just a blur. My brain is still trying to process everything from the show.
One thing does stand out though — an unbelievably generous act from someone I spoke to on Saturday about my homebrew builds and my methods for testing and debugging. This kind soul was so impressed by what I have accomplished without an oscilloscope that he bought one from the VCFSW charity auction and gave it to me on Sunday. I was so surprised I didn't think to even get his name before he disappeared into the crowd. I can't wait to put it to good use, and I hope that what I build with it lives up to his expectations.
Following VCF East earlier this year, Bil Herd said something about riding that high from VCFE, and that prompted him to agree to come out to join us at VCFSW this year. Now that I've experienced it for myself, I understand what he meant. I've been looking though all the pictures and blog posts everyone has been sharing, and catching up on recordings of the presentations I missed. Interest in some of my projects has me thinking about what I can do with them next. It's exciting.
I can't wait until next year.

The Game Awards 2023: Best Score and Music
I have opinions on this, so I'm sharing them.
I listened to a sampling of each soundtrack to get a feel for the compositional style and flavor. Ratings took into account things such as listenability (can I enjoy the music without playing the game?), accessibility (do I have to purchase the music somewhere in order to listen to it, or is it available on Spotify/Youtube for free listening with or without ads?), use of instrumentation, and the creativity of the compositions overall. Keep in mind these are my opinions, and if you disagree, great! We can have a conversation about it if you like, I just ask that you be polite about it. :)
Now, without further ado, my assessments of this year's nominees:
Hi-Fi Rush: 8/10
Fun! I have no idea what this game is about, but I might look into it just because this is so fun to listen to. This soundtrack is musically interesting and makes good use of limited instrumentation, allowing each to shine through in its own way and contribute individual textures to the music. Loud and driving, but there is motion and flow to the music, so it isn’t just a lot of noise all at once. There is ebb and flow, so it is not overwhelming. Modern instrumentation only, it seems, but that appears to fit with the general vibe of the game, so I’m not mad about it. I can appreciate a rock band in a video game when it makes sense. Lower marks because a lot of the pieces sound similar due to the aforementioned limited instrumentation. Will probably listen to again, though maybe not in the normal context in which I might listen to a game soundtrack. Might be good for road trips, honestly.
Baldur’s Gate III: 9.5/10
This soundtrack is written like a symphony and I will love it forever. The music alone can tell a story with how much emotion each piece evokes. The composer makes full use of the tools at his disposal, using each instrument and voice to bring incredible texture and variety to the music for this game. The use of leitmotivs and recapitulations to those respective themes in different variations keeps the pieces fresh, even if what we as the audience hear in the music is similar to things we have already encountered. Very Wagner-esque in that respect, especially in the evolution of themes throughout the game as the story progresses. I also really appreciate the development that each piece undergoes as it progresses. Even if it ends a different tempo/key/mood/etc. than it started, hearing the pieces ending and beginning in-game doesn’t get tiresome because of how the transitions run, which is evidence of good sound design on the engineers’ part. I am deducting half a point because some of the lyrics in the credits piece don’t make a whole lot of sense. Been listening to this one for months and I’m not likely to stop. I could talk about this one all day.
Alan Wake II: 7.5/10
Interesting! It’s pop-y but also dark, and not annoying, which is important for me. Not to my flavor personally as a *game* soundtrack, but good music overall. Subtracting marks because it doesn’t seem like the full soundtrack is available to listen to on any convenient platform, just the chapter ending tracks. Which, having not played the game myself, may be by design now that I think about it. While it doesn’t tell me much about what the game is about, the music definitely sets the atmosphere and gives an interesting soundscape, and I can get a pretty good idea of what the general vibe of this game is. Might listen to this again, but probably not in the context that I would normally do so for a game soundtrack.
Tears of the Kingdom: 8.5/10
Much like Baldur’s Gate, this soundtrack makes excellent use of the different sound textures found in the ensemble, yet takes it a step further by stepping beyond the traditional instrumentation of the western symphony orchestra. The addition of electronic and traditional east Asian elements sets it apart and serves to retain the listener’s interest. Personally, I really appreciate the generous use of woodwinds in creating the soundscape. I am not, however, a fan of how the tracks are presented, as the theme for each game area followed by short variations on the theme that one may hear under slightly different circumstances in game. This can make for a somewhat boring listening experience if one hears the whole soundtrack front to back, and a messy one if the tracks are shuffled (haven’t I already heard this piece before? Oh wait). Still good and unique music, though, and I’ll probably listen to pieces and parts of this again.
Final Fantasy XVI: 6/10 Personally, 7.5/10 Objectively
This is a Final Fantasy soundtrack. It has all the classic hallmarks of a Final Fantasy soundtrack. It’s big. It’s loud. The opener features an arpeggiated harp. It has a piano solo in the middle of the track list. What more could I ask for? Honestly, I’m not sure why I don’t like it, but I don’t. Objectively, it does fine as a game soundtrack. It provides semi-repetitive background tunes that allow the player to focus on the content of the game itself and create additional atmosphere for the in-game environments. But listening to it out of context feels almost… disjointed. There isn’t a whole lot of flow to these pieces, they aren’t going anywhere. Each piece has a set tone and a set energy level, and there doesn’t seem to be much variation within each piece itself from that set level, and if there is it comes right back to where it started. The pieces don’t grow and develop like I would expect from a symphonic soundtrack like this, and maybe that’s the part that bugs me most, but given the looping nature of these tracks, again that may be by design. If listening to Baldur’s Gate and Tears of the Kingdom feel like going on a journey, then Final Fantasy sounds like being teleported to various places on the journey without seeing the in-between parts. Additionally, I have been informed that the “good” tracks are ones that can only be listened to if you purchase them specifically, which I am not about to do for the purpose of this unofficial review.
So there you have it! My opinions that nobody asked for, but you got anyway.

My PC Screen Upgrades Review - Part 5 "Final" (w/ my paper dolls) [Recorded on Jan 21st & 26th, 2024]
Hello, February! The wait is over! 😁 Because here’s the final "Part 5" of my “PC Screen Upgrades Review” (featuring my paper dolls). Yup, this is my second attempt after I replaced the CPU cooling and added two PC fans in June of 2023. 🖥️🔧 This year is for the screen monitor by replacing/installing this trio of PC-related items! 😁
But before that, if you haven’t seen my previous topics that related to my “PC Upgrades”, then I’ll provide some links down below: ↓
- My PC Cooling Upgrades Review - • Part 1 [First Half] [Recorded on Jun 9th, 2023] • Part 1 [Second Half] [Recorded on Jun 9th, 2023] • Part 2 [First Half] [Recorded on Jun 9th, 2023] • Part 2 [Second Half] (Final) [Recorded on Jun 9th, 2023]
- My NVME Upgrade - • Part 1: Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSD (1TB) Review [Apr 7th, 2023] • Part 2: Thermalright M.2 2280 Pro Review [Apr 11th, 2023] • Part 3: Installation and trial & error [Recorded on Apr 21st, 2023] (published: Apr 22nd, 2023) • Part 4: Another Trial & Error [Apr 21st, 2023] (published: Apr 22nd, 2023 • Part 5: Timing comparison - HDD vs SSD NVMe M.2 Drive [Apr 25th, 2023] • Part 6 (Final): Samsung Magician & HWiNFO Softwares [Apr 25th, 2023]
And don’t forget this “Part 1, 2, 3, and 4" in case you missed it → [CLICK ME! For Part 1], [CLICK ME! For Part 2], [CLICK ME! For Part 3], [CLICK ME! For Part 4].
So, without further ado, let’s get started:
My Recorded Video [edited by: Filmora 9] 🎦🎞️:
• In the final part, you could see my computer desk overhauled, with the exception my desktop tower. The monitor and the extension sockets were changed to a different brand (Pensonic and Cherry Home). 🖥️🔌⚡And do you remember from my "Part 4" when the old AOC monitor had a spark sound by the time I turned on my custom PC? Well, it's dead. I wish I could fix it, but I don't have the tools to detect the old monitor's problem. 😞 As a result, my HDMI to VGA converter is now useless... 😥 Damn, I wasted my ₱250 fund. But it's okay, I could sell it at the same price, anyway. 🤷♀️ Nevertheless, after a long day of troubleshooting and tips on how our PC works, I turned on my PC by pressing a single power button, and my PC was brought back to life by a blinking red light! 😃 Now I turned on my new monitor to see if it works, and it does! My installation was a success! And man, I missed you so much, custom PC! It's been 7 months of being inactive and now you're alive! 🖥️😄 Then, I had to check the interior of my PC by removing the cover, and you could see they all functioning in all light up from the new PC power supply to the new GPU card! Uh yeah, I've also mentioned that our telephone and router were changed, with the latter changed from a four-antenna router to a two-antenna router which is a downgrade for our family. 😒 However, my new monitor's position was too low causing my head to tilt down and it was uncomfortable to view. So, 5 days later, my parents decided to add some floor tiles as an improvised stand booster of sorts, and I put two LEGO blocks on each leg for a little angle to make it a proper view 🧱➡️🖥️, since my 22-inch TV monitor (from Pensonic) wasn't designed for angle screen adjustment, unlike the actual computer monitors. You noticed I removed two universal adapter switches, but I'll re-attach these, soon. 🔌⚡ Another thing was my RGB LED light bulb was replaced with a white LED light bulb because my RGB light was dead, since September of 2023. But, I've bought a better one, so I'll reveal it, coming soon. Nevertheless, the 22-inch TV monitor includes a TV remote which is more convenient than pressing buttons at the back (any sides) of the monitor/television. Okay so, it's not NEW-NEW or as in literally "Brand New", but rather my big brother gave it to me. Plus, my dad won the prize from a raffle. So, congrats Dad. 👨🖥️🥳 So, what's the culprit of being unable to turn on my custom PC? 🤔 Well, the "DDR4 RAM Memory sticks" that will soon be decommissioned, after a long years of usage. 😮 However, these two RAMS we're functioned as usual with only my elbow grease and a luck. It looks like I'll invest in brand-new RAM memory sticks when these old RAM ones finally giving out, someday. 💵
1st to 12th Image(s) 📷📲 & Aftermath: ↑
• Here are some of the photos that I took, and I'm happy to report that my PC is still working after this moment. 🖥️🖱️😁 There are a few things that I want to address, as of February 2024. Like the 22-inch TV monitor had a few dead pixel lines when I view in black/dark mode, and the BIOS intro screen was skipped when I turned on the TV monitor first then the PC. The latter will work it out, soon after I browse and watch the tutorials via the web. 🌐🤔 But hey, on the bright side, my paper dolls we're happy to see my PC finally come back to life and they seem to be enjoying themselves from the gorgeous lights from the interior. 😄💡🖥️ Plus, they liked the new look, and with the 22-inch screen they could enjoy watching videos, or heck maybe re-visiting their "Chowder" episodes in 1080p High-Definition! Right, you two? Hehe 😁 Yes, I forgot to mention, that this TV monitor handles 1080p in a standard 60Hz rather than higher 120 or 160Hz.😅 Yeah, I'm okay with that. 😊👍
IMPORTANT NOTE: Pls, don't mind about that 1.5 litre coke. Its a improvised mouse trap. So, please don't mind that. ☝️😮
Final Overall:
• I'm so very happy to see my custom PC has risen like a Phoenix thanks to my two new PC parts that we've installed and some of my elbow grease 🖥️🔧, except my HDMI to VGA converter. And you know, there was a VGA port built-in at the back of the 22-inch TV monitor, though. Then I thought to myself, Nah... I would rather use an HDMI cable that we're lying around and use it instead of the VGA + converter combined. After all, the HDMI cable/port had already a superior approach when it comes to quality screen over the old-style VGA cable/port. Aside from the BIOS problem, as I said in my video, this isn't my final PC desktop look because there are some things or parts that I want to replace, like my two DDR4 RAM Memory Sticks (currently: PROVISION DDR4 8GB RAM (2x4GB) with 2133Mhz speed) will soon be decommissioned, and the entire PC desktop case which has to be replaced for a newer design look. But for now, "Functional" is important to me over appearance, and soon I'll take care of the latter. 😊🖥️ But right now, I'm enjoying reuniting my custom PC with blazing reading speeds from an NVMe card, and a serious GPU Card limit. More PC parts will be installed soon. 😉
Well, that's the end of my topic! More topics coming up, soon. 😊

Pimoroni公式ページでは、Pico Audio Pack(DACはTI/BB PCM5100A)の「Out of stock」が続いています。
https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/pico-audio-pack?variant=32369490853971
https://www.switch-science.com/products/7380
https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/Pico-Audio
現在、Arduino-Pico(Earle F. Philhower, IIIさんによるArduino IDEのRaspberry Pi Pico/RP2040用コア)ではI2SのMCLK対応が進んでいるので、こちらに期待しています。

Digital Synth PRA32-U v0.1.2リリース
https://github.com/risgk/digital-synth-pra32-u/releases/tag/v0.1.2
I2S_DAC_MUTE_OFF_PINおよびI2S_SWAP_BCLK_AND_LRCLK_PINS設定と、Pico Audio Pack用のミュート解除処理を追加しました。
【2023-08-10追記】説明には「We also offer a MUTE pin which can be used to silence the output」と書いてありますし、さすがにMUTEピンはプルアップされている気がしてきました。
Digital Synth VRA8-U v2.2.3リリース
https://github.com/risgk/digital-synth-vra8-u/releases/tag/v2.2.3
