Saw some drama in the theatre side of tumblr and felt I had to say something about it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t address the main rabble rouser directly as they blocked me for reblogging a post without their response.

The issue on the table: Is making a joke about a character not dying ignoring the historical context of the show? The particular case mentioned here involves a joke about the musical falsettos. Someone got very bent out of shape and parroted a point they made in March that honestly did not apply to the situation.

Here’s my takeaway. Writing or headcanoning a character as alive doesn’t take away the history nor the seriousness of what canonically killed them. People write AUs and headcanons all the time where Connor Murphy is alive and no one accuses them of mocking suicide and mental health.

My last point is this. Tone indicators are a great tool to use. The OP I speak of did! So if you’re looking at a post scratching your head as to whether it’s serious or a joke? Look for a tone indicator! If there isn’t one? Read the room or ask for clarification.

they've had such a long tiring day and they miss you terribly. all they want to do is lay on your lap while you play with his hair. his day perks up when he sees you though.
