The endearment was a bit like a shot to the solar plexus, but Harry grabbed himself by the legendary bootstraps. "Get a grip, Potter," he thought, giving Draco a slight smile as he followed him.

They were walking side by side, shoulders nearly touching, when Harry heard voices approaching from the hotel lobby. A man and a woman, bickering softly but unmistakably headed their way.

Draco held out his hand. Harry stared at it for a moment, then reached out and grabbed it.

The long, pale hand was warmer than he expected, and soft. There were no broomstick callouses left over on the smooth skin, unlike Harry's. He flew every day when the weather around his home in Ottery St. Catchpole allowed it; he'd purchased ten acres from Arthur at the end of the war and restored what had been a falling down pile of nineteenth century stones into the small, charming cottage where he lived. He found himself wondering if maybe Draco couldn't fly in Wiltshire.

The couple he'd heard entered the hallway abreast with them, and Draco leaned into his side. Harry felt a surge of pleasure so strong he almost missed what Draco was saying.

"Pay attention, Harry," Draco said with a meaningful look. "Shall we start this little bit of theatre now? Because that woman is one of the biggest gossips on the board of St Mungo's, and she's well enough connected everywhere that she can give it all a bit of a kick start."

Harry swallowed nervously. "Uhm, yeah, okay. Sure."

"So decisive," Draco teased. He leaned closer, grey eyes wide. "Buck up, lover. I'm about to kiss you."

Harry made a small sound of surprise as Draco turned and slipped his arm around Harry's waist. He pulled Harry against him, leaned forward, and angled his head before taking Harry's lip in a soft, careful kiss.

There was a sound a startlement across from them but Harry couldn't pay attention to that; he was too stunned by the soft lips currently moving on his. He caught his breath, opening his mouth and inhaling Draco's breath. He tasted dark and spicy, the top note of smoke and the richness of the oak barrels firewhisky cured in, and it made Harry's toes curl.

He lifted his hand to the back of Draco's head and his fingers speared through the strands of blond hair. Harry discovered that yes, indeed, it was as soft as it looked. When Draco's hand spread on his lower back and pulled him closer, Harry went pliable at the insistent pull, allowing himself to curve into Draco's chest. A long, slender thigh slipped between Harry's legs, and the obvious strength in it was thrilling. He found himself wanting to push even closer. His prick hardened so fast it was dizzying, and he knew pressing it against Draco's prominent hipbone would be heavenly. He didn't, but it was a near thing.

Draco finally pulled back, his full lips darkened pink and his eyes half-lidded. "Lovely," he murmured, pressing a soft kiss to Harry's throat just above the collar of his robes.

“Petrificus Totalus.” Harry’s limbs go rigid and snap together as he keels over, face first onto weeds and patchy, wet grass. His nose and chin hit the packed dirt with a painful crunch. Though his shout of surprise is stuck in his throat, the sound of his body hitting the ground echoes in his ears. A hand grabs at the cloak and pulls hard. Then, he’s on his back, Draco Malfoy standing over him. “Well now, this is familiar,” Malfoy says, a smirk pulling at his mouth. He crouches down at Harry’s side, pulling at his hair so that Harry's head is angled to face him. “Harry Potter.” His voice is low and drawling and it scuttles over Harry’s skin. “I’m simply dying to know what you're doing here.” Harry’s current predicament is, he can admit, rather dire. Being caught stalking aside, he thinks his nose might be broken. Humiliation licks up his rigid spine, but along with it is a prickle of ill-advised anticipation, a foolish thrill at what Malfoy might do. “You’ve been following me for a while now, haven’t you? I thought I could hear—” Malfoy cuts himself off. Harry hardly registers what Malfoy is saying, caught up in the opportunity to finally look at him up close. Malfoy laughs and the sound crawls up over Harry, gets under his nails. “Merlin you are such a little creep, aren’t you, Harry?” Harry's sure a violent flush must be blooming across his face, not only at the insult but at his body’s reaction to the words, his cock twitching traitorously.

"-and he's just so irritating," Harry ranted, slamming the end of his fork down on the table, looking furious. "He's always got to be the best in everything, and he's all- all proper, and obsessed with his looks, which is stupid because, well, he looks fine as it is.."

James rolled his eyes, tuning his thirteen-year-old son out. Harry went on about Draco Malfoy enough that it was all like one big run-on sentence, now. James could ignore him for ten minutes and still quote what he said word-for-word. But as he looked across the table, he caught Regulus's eyes to share an eyeroll with him and realized his husband looked thoughtful. So, once Harry went up to his room, James murmured, "Knut for your thoughts?"

"Nothing, nothing," Regulus murmured, looking at the table.

"If this is about Harry, speak up," James pushed gently. "You're just as much his parent and Lils and I. Is something wrong?" Though James and Regulus had married three years after he and Lily had Harry, everyone in the equation considered Regulus an equal when it came to parenting.

"it's just..d'you think Harry's not as angry with Draco as he thinks he is?" Regulus suggested, looking at James.

"What?" James asked, laughing. "You think- what- he fancies-"

"Well, I used to say the same things about you, is all," Regulus admitted, grinning a bit. "In school. About how you were annoying and self-centered, and all. I think if we told Harry to talk about Draco in front of Barty or Ev, they'd get flashbacks."

James gaped, but he felt himself smiling. "Well...a Gryffindor and a Slytherin. He takes after his fathers, then, huh?"

Regulus chuckled. "Seems that way."

Goes Without Saying

They exchange glares across the Great Hall at meals, during classes, and in the hallways. They trade insults sometimes without a word; in harsh looks and shoulder checks and hexes and punches.

In Eighth Year, they share a dorm. They apologize, but that's all they say for a while. They keep their distance. They keep staring. They share textbooks and quills. One day, one of them uses the other's wand without asking, and soon it doesn't matter whose is whose. One of them has a nightmare, and the other crosses the room and climbs into his bed without a word.

Eventually, they share a heated look, followed by a heated kiss. They talk with every touch, and soon become fluent in each other.

They look at flats together and Harry knows they've found the right one when he catches the gleam in Draco's eyes. Life becomes a steady rhythm. Harry cooks. Draco cleans. They take turns picking a movie on Friday nights. Harry rises before Draco to wake him up with tea. Draco never scolds Harry for leaving his clothes on the floor.

One morning, Harry wakes to find an engagement ring on his finger. Draco lies beside him with a small, hopeful smile. Harry's immediate kiss is answer enough, but he says it anyway when they finally pull apart.

“Yes."

“Oh—the poor boy!”

Molly pats Harry’s face. “Of course, love. It’ll be our little secret.”

“What secret?” Draco demands behind him.

Harry whirls, sweating. “I love you.”
