I've been waiting to yap about this so now that the Yuletide fics and authors are revealed!! Inspiration for this fic "故事如紛煙墜花 | the past is like the dissipating smoke and falling flowers" came from these two scenes from episode 38 and episode 11 respectively.

"I'll scold him (the Lone Sword Deity) to death!" (proceeds to do a live demonstration)

The key point being what Xie Xuan said: "Actually, I think what Lei-xiong said has some point."

There's just something about Xie Xuan calling Lei Wujie (the son of Lei Mengsha) Lei-xiong that got me a little teary after watching Dashing Youth

and also what Xie Xuan said to him in episode 11 that hints at him having taught Xiao Se once!!!

"Seeing your laid back self now, I nearly can't recall that unrestrained young man back in the Academy anymore."
