From "Hantavirus":

She marches ahead, tendrils of black hair and thorn undulating as, from the waist up, the karcist remains impossibly still. Her presence, it seems, casts a shadow over this village. The anticipation of war. This is well and fine. It wouldn’t be the first time her army made anyone old enough to understand wary and silent. They cast their eyes away and down, as if ashamed to see the glory of their Grand Karcist’s might in living flesh. She can forgive them. As the Grand Karcist forgives and forgives. Not everyone understands. Two children play in the center of the village. At a single glance, Karcist Halyna Ieva knows they are siblings. Knows their entire lineage back to the oldest of their forebears. And she gives them a nod, making sure her halkost falls into tighter ranks to give the children their place to play. If only they could all have such carefree childhoods. If only youth could be innocent forever.

“Karcist Varis.” Karcist Nakiakken perks his ears up. “To what do we owe the pleasure?” Karcist Varis, with head held high, says nothing. On the outside of the red line that marks the biohazard zone, he paces the floor. Walks the entire length of the glass, turning on his heel and back again. On his third pass, he looks at Karcist Nakiakken. “Enjoying your time in the Foundation’s spare Tupperware?” “I see you lack any manner of patience.” Karcist Nakiakken watches as Karcist Varis continues to pace. “I’ve decided to stay in the interests of my people. For building rapport and goodwill.” “And how is that working out for you?” Karcist Variss folds his hands behind his back and, when he turns to pace again, “Do they see our side? Are you making friends?” Karcist Nakiakken bristles at that. And knows that this is what Varis does. Get a rise out of someone by needling their weakest points. After decades, they would know each other’s softest spots.

The meeting starts, and it’s just the four of them. Apparently, Nora had planned to be there, but something came up. Alex is sitting next to Henry, making it rather hard for him to concentrate, if he’s being honest. The way Henry’s fingers tap on the top of the table as if he’s nervous makes Alex wonder what he knows that Alex doesn’t because he’s sure it’s not Alex making him that nervous. He may also be thinking about what those fingers would be like on him, maybe more grasping, fervently grabbing, sliding through his hair; he’s finding he’s not particular about how they’re on him. He really needs to figure out what he did to make Henry turn cold so he can fix it, and��when he sees the other three looking at him, he realizes he probably needs to pay attention as well. “I’m sorry, what was that?”

“This guy—we danced, made out, and we were back in this corner, and he was—” Alex stops and thinks for a moment. “He was sucking my dick and the fucker bit … me …” He scrabbles at his still-open jeans and yanks the waistband of his boxers down, seeing the still gaping bite mark and what almost looks like some sort of not-quite-pus leaking from it. “What—the fuck …” “Yeah, that would be the wound from where the bastard turned you; he’s been captured and is being taken care of; he wasn’t smart enough to realize we have cameras." “I’m sorry. You may have said this, and I missed it, but who are you?”

If the ask game is still running - chapter 13 beta please?

sure, the game is still running!

Chapter 13 Beta is the next chapter of IYGABAB. That's how I always title the chapters in gdocs, mostly because it makes it easy to remember which version of the chapter is the most recent. (I have at least four versions of ch 13 floating around so it's easier to change old version to Ch 13 OLD or ch 13 PREV because I have a bad but sometimes useful habit of not deleting anything)

The working title of this chapter is You've been hit by--you've been struck by--a smooth liminal! but it's a bit long, so I might change it to something else, we'll see. Mostly, the titles are for my own amusement.

If I remember the rules of the game correctly, I can post a little snippet if I so choose, and since it's almost finished...I'll post a snippet ^w^

“I distinctly remember you saying you tried this already and it didn't work,” Bruce noted.

“Well. Last time, I didn’t have this.” He pulled out the shard of ice Bruce was regretting giving him more and more by the hour, placing it at the apex of the sigil legs. “Also, last time, I didn’t have a name to use for the ritual.”

Experience had taught Bruce how important a name was. Even in mundane matters.

“Why does the ice shard make a difference?”

“Look, before, I was just thinking of it as a piece of ghost-essence. But then I saw Red Hood’s ice duck—I don't suppose you managed to borrow that, by any chance?"

Bruce had, in fact, asked.

Jason's response had been a rude emoji, followed by the directive to 'go duck yourself'. 

Bruce still wasn't sure whether that was a pun or an autocorrect mishap.

Thanks for the tag, @just-here-with-my-thoughts! I'm super excited to get cracking on some @summer-of-bad-batch prompts, but for now, I'm waist-high in Chapter 4 of Not Alone. It's still a first draft, so this may change, but as of right now, the last line I wrote is:

"I won’t tell you what to talk about, but if you chatter for an hour a day about nothing, you’re only wasting your own time."

1. Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-fic.

Before my comfort zone was always something along the lines of Isekai. Had so many WIPs like that, either that or the main character went through something harsh, with a promise of things getting better. :)

Now, I'm not quite sure, I have no idea how to describe my writing now.

2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?

There's so many actually, but I can't quite name them atm. I mean, one that I've always loved, or at least found silly, is the being late trope. Most used in anime, but can be so silly! Which is what I'm now using in my "Miscommunications" College AU!

17. Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?

My only basis for this is CotH... In which, is being written completely out of order, it's been jumping around! Actually because I was so hell bent on writing in order for other stories, that might be why they never got far.... Makes sense, gotta follow my ADHD fr /vsilly

The Wayhaven Chronicles - Update 21.02.2025

Hello everyone, Nai here.

Mishka has had a pretty awful week I'm afraid, after loosing two of her wonderful pets within a couple of days of each other, so she's taking some time - she's taken it pretty hard.

But as always, she doesn't want to leave you with nothing - she has done the writing and edits on Chapter 7 and has moved onto writing Chapter 8 already! Hopefully she'll be feeling a bit better next week. Hope you all have a lovely weekend - talk to you next week!

His skin dark, his teeth sharp — it's all gleaming on its own, glitching, barely holding Pharo at the seams. He sees all, he knows all. And his smile gets wider and wider with each secret he learns.

THE BURLESQUE DANCER - Odessa's red lips, with a cigarette between them always, ache with demands every time she opens her mouth. Yet no one is able to keep their eyes off of her when she is on stage, moving like water on land and between thin and hanging fabrics. Odessa doesn't seem keen on talking about anything before the Circus, but she will make sure to get you talking about it soon enough.

THE ATTRACTION - Vesper is the newest addition to the Circus, one that has never been seen before. Or you haven't seen anything like it, at least. Vesper is quiet, almost unnervingly so. The tail and gills and twisted arms with sickly green-grey skin are to make a profitable attraction for sure. Just ... don't ever lift up its tank's lid.

So this update picks up after the first encounter with Merikh's brother. This chapter is where the fantasy genre really comes into play hehe...

I hope y'all enjoy and thank you again for your patience. I had to write several different iterations of these fight scenes, which really pushed my coding skill. There is a bit of character and plot development, both for the characters and the MC. Let me know what y'all think!

Just a word of warning, I did change one or two variables in the previous iteration of Chapter 7, so if you're using an old save file, there's a small chance it might give some error. But hopefully it doesn't. Of course, the safer way would be to play with a new, clean save (either playing from the beginning or use the quickstart to get to Chapter 6 immediately).

Anyway, I'll start answering spoiler asks regarding the update in a day or two 😉 And when I answer them, I'll make sure to tag them with the #chapter 7 spoiler tag.

You can call me Pez.” Alex takes the hand Pez extended toward him and shakes it; he expected it to feel colder; that’s what all the lore said, right, cold to the touch or something like that. “Why is your hand not cold? I thought it was supposed to be cold.” Alex’s brain catches up with his mouth. “I’m so sorry that was so rude. Please forget I said that.”

“I think I have a sex curse?” “I’m sorry, you have a what?” “I think I’ve been cursed, and it’s affecting my ability to perform sex acts? Even just kissing no longer works for me.” “I’m afraid to ask, but … in what way?” Alex tells Henry all about the woman who hit on him repeatedly and wouldn’t take no for an answer. He tells Henry all about the last time it happened and how she seemed to mutter something under her breath about how if he wouldn’t so much as kiss her, he must be waiting for his true love, and the rush of something, maybe it was magic, that rushed over him.

Tales of Wocdes: The Silver Protector is a high fantasy interactive fiction made in Twine. During the story, your protagonist will change from a helpless child to a Silver Protector, an elite warrior and protector. In time, you may wield powerful magic, or be a master of the blade.  

The game is in early development. All content is subject to change.

Premise

Wocdes is a world full of magic, monsters, and secrets. No beings in this world embody all three better than the Ancients,  godlike in power and unbeatable in battle. Incredibly wise and compassionate. Incredibly terrible and cruel. Immortal and glorious. Petty and vengeful. Or so the stories go. 

Not that you know the stories. Why would you? You are a child kidnapped for unknown purposes.  You barely know anything about yourself. Your life is one of pain and suffering at the hands of people you do not know. 

In a moment of desperation, a plea leaves your lips. Or perhaps it is only in your mind. Unexpectedly something hears you and will never ignore a broken child alone in the dark asking for help. You are saved but you are permanently scarred by your experiences. Given into the care of the newly created Orphanage of Firgrat, here is where your journey truly begins. How will you cope with your past and current reality?  Can you survive the cruel world of Wocdes, the weight of your trauma? Can you help others survive?  Can you grow up, make friends, learn to love, and become a real person again?

What to look forward to

In this game, you will (eventually) be able to:

Customize your character, from their appearance and gender (male, female, non-binary) to their abilities and personality.

Admittedly, your characters emotional development has taken a bit of a hit due to recent events, leaving them a bit confused in general about... everything. 

You can add elements of fantasy races to your character's appearance, such as a tail, wings, pointy ears and many more.

Discover why you were kidnapped, eventually.

Protect those you feel deserve it, become stronger for yourself or to protect others.

Grow up alongside other orphans and kids from the city, journey through childhood at the orphanage and the surrounding city, to adulthood with responsibilities. 

Develop your relationships with your fellow orphans and other companions, maybe even get into a romance. 

Speaking of romance, the author aims to offer an option to be completely and utterly dense about romance, like completely oblivious to the degree people worry about you. Or maybe you will be a smoother operator.

Go on adventures and missions, both innocent and not, in an original fantasy world full of magic, wonder and cruelty.

Characters

Primary

The twins Atru (m) and Azha (f): The original inhabitants of the orphanage and the only children already there when you arrive. Both twins have short blond hair and green eyes. Atru is a seemingly silent emotionless boy who clings to his sister Azha. Azha is a little girl shaped ray of sunshine and well-meaning mischief. And chatter!

More characters will be filled out later. A bit more info is available here and here.

Secondary

Havard (m): The head custodian of the Orphanage. A father figure to all the children. His duty is to guide the children, and it is a duty he takes very seriously.

Lexia (f): The Silver Protector in charge of you. Young, excitable and strong. One of the first to be chosen for the new elite order called the Silver Protectors.

Alessa (f): The custodian in charge of the twins. A sweet young somewhat shy woman who the twins adore, both in their own ways. 

Sandor (m): The Silver Protector in charge of the twins. A good-natured and somewhat shy young man often trailing after the twins with a fond look. 

The Ancients

Driven by the need for retribution, you and Jax set out for the kingdom, determined to find and punish the sick soul who took your sister's life. When revenge is your only remaining purpose, a life for a life only seems fair.

‣‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ Get involved in the politics of Cape Lyra. The people can only be neglected for so long before they start to revolt, right? What side of history will you be on? Or will you be too blinded by grief to care who gets hurt?

‣‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ Exorcise a demon, maybe.

DAWN, born amidst the morning birdsong, the cherished youngest child of King Cedric and Queen Lyra, and the heir apparent to the throne. They don't often get to see outside of Cape Lyra's walls, so don't fault them for being a little juvenile in their knowledge of the world, it's not born from a lack of desire. There's a youthful charm to Dawn, and a deep-seated eagerness to know more about the kingdom they'll one-day rule. [M/F, 22]

ASA KYNES, climbing the ranks as one of Cape Lyras most dedicated royal guards, Kynes is as formidable as they are resolute. You won't get past them very easily, they've got keen judgement skills, and you're up to something, they're sure of it. Kynes is loyal, and more than willing to lay their life down in servitude to the monarchy. Getting Kynes to open up is hard, but may be more than worth it. [M/F, 26]

JAX HANSLEY, your sisters best friend and now your accomplice in avenging her. Jax is royalty in The Rocks, charismatic beyond belief and has been teasing you since you were just starting to walk. Extravagant and always looking for something to do, you'll never find yourself bored around them. Plus, you couldn't get rid of Jax even if you wanted to, they're the closest thing to family that you have left. [M/F, 24]

CERYS SELINE, owner and face of The Rabbits Foot, Cape Lyra's busiest tavern. Cerys is a stern woman who works her ass off day and night, but there's a sweet undertone to the way she speaks: something nurturing. She's a pillar of the kingdom, well-connected and respected. There's more to her than meets the eye, sure, but for now she's more than willing to aid you in finding your sisters killer. [F, 26]

ARTHUR CASE, a priest who has been ousted from the kingdom for reasons he just won't speak aloud. Left with only one leg and crumbs of his faith, he's living in his late father's old church a short trek from the kingdoms gates. Pop in for a service one day, maybe confessionals don't always have to be one-sided. [M, 29]

DAWN CHORUS contains some heavy topics, such as graphic depictions of death, violence, drug use, explicit language and skippable sexual content. Classism is also a present topic. Readers discretion is advised.

tagged by @bidisasterevankinard ❤️❤️ here's a first taste of a post-makeup amnesia fic that i'm reluctantly adding to the wip pile, because i have no self-control whatsoever apparently.

Buck feels like he's slipped and fallen into a parallel dimension. Because it's not Bobby, or Eddie, or even Maddie and he's having weird sensory stuff that makes her hand feel extra large on his own. 

It's Tommy. 

In the seat next to Buck's hospital bed, chin dropped down towards his chest, snoring quietly.

Buck must make a noise, or move, or something, because in the space of a heartbeat Tommy's eyes are open and fixed on him.

"You're awake," he says, and his voice shows nothing but relief.

"Looks that way," Buck manages.

"Thank god," Tommy says, shooting Buck his most handsome smile, squeezing his hand. "I'm so happy to see you."

And some part of Buck is undeniably happy to see him too, but another, larger part of him is deeply, hugely pissed off. Really? It takes hospitalization for Tommy to show up? Buck thought he'd left hurting himself for attention behind years ago, but apparently not. Apparently all unaware, it's still the only way he can get the man he - the only way he can get Tommy to look at him.

"What are you doing here?" he asks, pulling his hand out from under Tommy's and folding his arms across his chest.

Tommy's smile falters a little. "Where else would I be?"

Buck shrugs, shifts his jaw. He is not going to cry.

"How would I know?"

"Evan - "

That's it. That's the line.

"I want Maddie. Or Eddie."

Tommy looks confused now. Concerned.

"Honey…Eddie's in Texas, remember? He's been calling me like five times a day, though."

"What are you talking about?"

"I - let me get a doctor, okay?" Tommy stands, looks he wants to reach for Buck. Doesn't.

NEW UPDATE IS OUT!

So, like stated above, the update is out! I’ll leave a list of patch notes, but this is majorly a bigger one for Alzarez and Lance romancers. The Lance extra story “Movie and Dessert” is being released with this update. You will need to replay the game. I’m sorry about that. BUT it’s because I added in new variables to the train scene so that stuff said there could possibly be brought up in this new scene! Reactivity, yay!

Along with that, you’ll get to read Alvarez’s flashback scene which is the actual end of Chapter 4. Along with a lot of little goodies. All in all, there was about… 44k-45k words added into this update? 40k of them are entirely optional and only happen if you choose to hang out with Lance after Alvarez’s flashback scene scene.

Not gonna lie, 1 variation in I was confident it would take two weeks. 8 variations in I was a bit tired but still energized to get this scene done. 16 variations in I had to step away for a couple of days to not let my brain melt. By the time I hit mid-twenties in variation for this scene, I was finding myself thinking that it just. wasn’t. worth it.

I have no idea if I’ll make the other intimate scenes this branching. It was honestly a lot of work. Like, a lot, it it was so fatiguing after a while, but I knew I had to get it done. IT’s also the reason I paused my patreon this month, because it wouldn’t be fair to charge people for something that they’re not getting early as promised in the rewards. This took way longer than I thought, so I wanted to just release it to everyone at once.

Added a Text Box Investigation Tab in the Stats Screen.

You are now able to toggle between Text Box Investigations and regular choice script gameplay for TBI sequences.

You can now view the Text Box Investigation tutorial at any time via the stats screen.

Removed the Text Box Investigation Tutorial from chapter 4.

Added an option in the beginning of the game to Fade To Black during intimate scenes.

You can now pick asexual and aromantic as separate options, and they are not tied to each other.

Grammar edits and fixes (thank you to all who report them).
