The Wayhaven Chronicles—Update 20/Dec/2024
This week was a realisation of just how close Christmas break is, lol!
So then it was making sure to get everything checked off!
That was a bit more of a squeeze this year as the Winter scenario specials have all ended up waaaaay longer than I meant them to by thousands of words… :D
So that’s been nearly 20,000 words extra this month on top of making sure to hit my chapter 6 goals!
Though writing the scenarios and chapter six meant I got to write multiple Adam/Ava kisses this week: for the scenario and the main game. So it’s been a busy week for A ;D
I will be working this weekend and likely next week, but I will be starting my break from social media, etc, from tomorrow. In the same vein, we will be back on January 6th but won’t be back on social media, etc until 13th January.
That first week back will be used for planning out the year ahead and getting a head start on a lot of very fun stuff to come!
Hope you all have the most amazing and magical holiday season if you celebrate! If not, then I hope you have a fantastic December and New Year!
Talk to you all then! <3

Hi! I wanted to ask a question you already answered but in reverse: will the villain be jealous of the LIs after finding out MC is already taken? 👀🤞 Also, such a nice touch to have the villain call MC the same exact word the LI called them back in... book 1 right? I played M's route first and immediately recognized it when the villain said MC was 'enticing'! I hope I'm not mistaken and actually caught that right... otherwise that'd be embarrassing for me to say that so confidently 😳
The villain definitely will not be happy at all when finding out the MC's interests lay elsewhere. But no worries, it's easy enough to remove the competition, right? ;D
Yes, you are completely right! I'm so glad you caught that, hehe! :D
I do love a throwback, and it seemed too perfect of a moment not to have it. The interest of the LI saying it compared to the shudder of revulsion when Li-Sar says it was too much fun :D
Thank you so much for the ask! :)

Hello, wonderful being(s) who operate this blog. Wayhaven has become a sort of home for me and I thank you so much for making and sharing it with all of us. It’s amazing to watch the world and fandom grow and following the process with you!? Incredibly generous and dedicated of you! It’s so clear that this is a labor of love and I hope that after all your hard work you are impressed or at the very least satisfied with the incredible amount of work you put into every aspect of this. It doesn’t go unnoticed.
Feel free to ignore this, but it’s a question I think about often while reading Wayhaven. We all know that N doesn’t like technology and believes (perhaps rightly so) that nowadays we rely on electronics too much. I happen to be legally blind and rely heavily on technology to get around that. Such as using my phone camera to zoom in on something I can’t see or read. Or having to need a voiceover to ‘read’ my books for me. N is my favorite and I wonder how they (and perhaps A, since they’re so old and seem to be rather wary of tech too) would feel about this aspect of technology or if the MC had to depend on such workarounds for their own limitations. I love how independent and capable the MC is and that there is no pressure or plans for the MC to become a vampire. But this particular ‘what if” comes to me often if I happen to be thinking of Wayhaven while I go about my day with my little tricks and such to do what I need to in order to see and get about.
So sorry for the long winded message. >.< Thank you so much again.
Aah, what a wonderful and kind message! Thank you so, so much! I'm so happy to hear Wayhaven is a home for you. I truly wanted it to be a space people can fall into and just lose themselves in.
As for your question, Nate/Nat probably would never have thought of the benefits of technology in this way. When they can fall back on magically-infused aids to help in things, that's where they would go to!
Adam/Ava is at least more open to uses of technology, but doesn't tend to use tech outside of what the Agency offers too.
N and N came from ages where tech just wasn't a thing, and even after all these centuries, they haven't come to rely on it yet, lol! :D
Thank you so much for the ask and again for the amazing message! <3

i think you've ruined my life by writing N. they're literally my dream person i don't think i'll ever be able to date anyone anymore (not that i had much of a love life to begin with lol)
I've ruined any chances at romance myself for writing these vampires, so we can make a club about it, lol! :D
Thank you so much for the fun message! :)

The Wayhaven Chronicles— 13/Dec/2024
I can’t believe it’s been a week already, and what a difference a week makes! This time last week we were battening down the hatches for a major storm, and my internet was giving out under the weather!
This week, all is calm with the weather, and I’ve been powering through the chapter, as well as pushing on with the next Winter Special Scenario! F was really bringing their full game for the scenario this week—that's for sure!
Something interesting this week too—I got my ‘Wrapped’ Spotify update thing!
Unsurprisingly, topping the list was a lot of Book Four songs, lol! :D
I’ll give you a little hint at the Top 3…the ones after that get rather spoilery in theme!
Tumblr media
(If you’re wondering, yes, that last song is very much one I have on while writing Li-Sar’s scenes, hehe! ;D)
There’s some specific goals I want to meet before Christmas break, so I won’t be taking quite as long a one as I usually do because I need to check them off to be able to relax! Book Four is seriously intensive and taking a longer time than I’d like to write, but I also love what Book Four is becoming and how reactive it is to the character the player has made and what they’ve gone through so far!
Plus writing an extra love interest route is quite a bit of work, but SO worth it! Especially because it’s such a different theme to write than the others!
So, I want to say the most MASSIVE thank you for being so patient! With the way this book is coming together, I really think it’ll be worth it! <3
As you can probably guess, I’m planning on next year being the Book Four year! *fingers crossed*
Can’t wait for you all to play the next demo though and chat with you all about it, hehe! ;D There will also be another demo to come after that one too!
Hope you all have the most fantastic weekend! We’ll be offline as usual, so I'll update you all again next week! <3

do you have access to some stats such as which romance routes are most popular amongst the readers? i'm curious :D i feel like M has gotten very popular
I don't, unfortunately! It would be SUPER interesting to see how it shifts between books, hehe!
Though from the vibe I get, I agree, M is far more popular now than they were in earlier books! :D
Thank you so much for the ask! :)

That was a weird error, lol!
Thank you for catching that and letting me know! That should be fixed with the next demo update! :)

Hello! I've got a question about Rebecca I've been dying to ask for ages! I've thought about this on and off for a long time while playing through the books, especially when deciding how my MC should feel towards their relationship. Did Rebecca purposefully drown herself in her career to avoid being a mother to the detective (choose to neglect the MC), or was Rebecca really unable to escape work? (Sorry this is long, I've had lots of thoughts brewing) The first seems the obvious answer to me. Considering that the MC is at least in their mid 20s, it's been over twenty years since Rook's death. And it is clear in the books that to this day just the mention of Rook weakens her to her knees. It seems to me that his death was so overwhelming, she didn't have the energy to be a mother to the MC, and overworked herself to avoid processing and thinking about her pain, abandoning her child (to a nanny)... and then did that into the MC's adulthood. It was stated sometime in the books, maybe book two or three I don't remember, that working with Unit Bravo, and simultaneously Rebecca, has been the most time the detective has ever spent with their mother. And that speaks volumes! Now, it was never mentioned that Rebecca was forced to be a handler and work away from home all the time. She had the power to step down from the council. So, she could have chosen some sort of stable job within the agency that allowed her to still be an active mother. But she didn't. She didn't even take a single holiday off to spend time with the MC (mentioned in the holiday book) and left them to the neighbors for Christmas! And this fact hasn't been mentioned explicitly, which is why I wonder. (Excluding the holiday book stuff obvi since its not in the main canon technically) The MC can express being upset because Rebecca was absent many times, but the main issue the story focused on, at least in book one (which makes sense for that point of the story) was how the MC felt about Rebecca lying to them about the nature of her job. Which I feel is a reasonable lie. I feel my MC would care more about why she was absent rather than that she kept her career a secret, though. Or, to make myself more clear, I feel the issue of Rebecca keeping secrets and lying about her career was discussed more in depth in the books rather than why Rebecca was absent, and whether it was a choice, and I wish I could express that in the story and be angry about it. And have Rebecca own up to it and apologize for being absent. But maybe we'll get to that later in the story, idk. If this is the exact reason for Rebecca's absence, that is. Thanks for listening to my ted talk. And for your response, if you end up doing so. And thank you so much for writing the Wayhaven Chronicles! I've enjoyed it so much, and I look forward to book 4 and the following future books! (I wanna marry Morgan so bad T_T)
This is such a good question, as well as reasonings!
You've actually hit it all on the head pretty perfectly! :D
Rebecca's reason for being absent is grief, for sure, and this is coming into play in a MAJOR way sooner than you might expect, and something you can tackle.
Rebecca would prefer the focus on the MC's upset or annoyance (if their is any for the MC, depending on how you're playing them) than on the fact that she lied to them about the Agency than even touch on the reason for why she threw herself into her work. But that can't last…
I hope this makes sense, but it certainly will as we go deeper into the books!
Thank you so much for the ask and the amazing message! <3

In N's past relationships, did they or their partner usually initiate the breakup?
Usually their partner, recognising that there was a distance with N all the time, as though N wasn't fully there with them, as much as N was trying.
Thank you so much for the ask! :)

F says that M was smiling all morning the day after they hooked up with the detective in the car? why 👀 what made that time different from all the others for them 👀
Things are getting more emotionally involved for M with the MC, though they don't recognise that just yet.
Sleeping with the MC isn't just becoming about the pleasure of sex, but something much deeper and bonding.
When M realises this, it's going to be an AWESOME scene to write, and I am shaking with excitement to write it when it comes, hehe! :D
Thank you so much for the ask! :)

The Wayhaven Chronicles—Update 29/Nov/2024
Pressed on with Chapter 6 this week, but then started working on the first of the Winter Scenario Specials for Patreon too!
The four aesthetics that won the poll were pretty perfectly suited to Unit Bravo, and I almost went for the obvious ones to match to each love interest out of habit. But then I decided I wanted to mix it up!
So instead of, like, the cosy book one being for Nate/Nat (my go-to for those kinds of scenes!), I’m planning on having that for Mason/Morgan, etc. Let the love interests shine in different types of scenario environments, hehe! :D
I’m actually loving how these scenarios are turning out, and I already have an idea on how to expand the idea of how they’re written for the Valentine’s scenario specials, lol!
For Chapter 6 this week, it was getting on top of the BFF backstory conversations. As I was writing the choices you could ask your BFF about this moment at the end of the conversation, I realised that—as a player—I would want to know the answer to more than just one of the questions, so I went back and made it so as the choice loops, blanking out the choices you’ve already asked so you can ask more if you want, or have the option to just move on if you don’t.
Book Four is quite a big one for a lot of major information reveals, especially to set up things in the doozy that will be Book Five! But I really want to make sure it’s done in a fun, natural flow, not just always a lore dump!
This weekend and next week, I’ll be finishing up the first of the Winter scenarios before jumping back into Chapter 6—something pretty major happens to the MC next, so looking forward to writing that…hehe! ;D Then it’ll be starting the next Winter scenario and pushing on with the chapter still! I’ve got some major things I want to check off in December, so it’s seriously full steam ahead!
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! We’ll be offline as usual, so I’ll update you all again next week!

hello favorite author! I was wondering about this for a minute so I decided to ask! Can Vampires drink from other Vampires? I know they said they could drink from other supernaturals but I'm not sure about vampires specifically, also how does vampire transformation work in the Wayhaven universe? I'm not sure if I missed it or not, is it through bite? Or maybe more like what Murphy did, or maybe both? :)
Vampires can drink from other vampires but it's not as satiating for them to do it.
It is through a bite, yes! But venom needs to be released at the same time for the transformation process to begin. A vampire can choose to release venom or not, though this is more difficult for less-skilled or new vampires to control.
Whether someone survives the transformation process is a whole other issue…
Hope this helps! Thank you so much for the ask :)

how many members of UB would have to join the detectives team in a paintball game to ensure the detective doesnt end up looking theyve had a tin of paint dumped over them by A 'totally not hypercompetitive' du mortain? :3c
Okay, so now I totally have the a scenario in my head where everyone teams up against A in a paintball match and A's competitive streak hits new heights, hehe! :D
At least Unit Bravo might stand a chance at winning in that situation though...lol!
But if it was a MC romancing A, then there is always a very effective distraction to use! ;D
Thank you so much for the ask! :)

I absolutely love your writing so this isn't a criticism, just wondering if that was the intent. Nate's romance in book 1 was perfect and then in book 2/3, we get to see his overprotective side. And boyy, it is a lot. He was overprotective to the point of smothering and it made me feel like he doubted my capabilities. Was this the intention and if yes, is it something we can address with him?
That was definitely the intention, yes! So it's good it came off that way :D
N's overprotective side is definitely one of the main barriers that crops up for their romance, though I needed some time to really establish it and become an issue.
It will be something that is addressed, for sure, but obviously in different ways to account for how different MCs will feel about it as well as how they want to approach it.
It didn't come up as much in Book One or Two as N was developing (fast) feelings for the MC and when the MC was really presented with the danger of Sin, N had that very selfish reaction of not wanting to lose the MC no matter what it cost. It was also then they realised just how deep they are in for the MC...and showed it very badly in that moment, lol!
But reacting under pressure is really not N's strong point!
Hope that helps!
Thank you so much for the ask! :)

The Wayhaven Chronicles— Update 22/Nov/2024
My focus was on Chapter 6 this week. There’s a big opening scene that is a variant depending on who your BFF is, and there’s some real deeper information in these scenes about the BFF that they discuss with the MC.
I’ve been keen to write this for sooo long!
I put in the BFF routes for Wayhaven, and I do like them, but it feels like the MC hasn’t really had a chance to develop that friendship with their BFF except kind of ‘off screen’. I want more times so that true connection between the MC and their BFF can happen with the actual reader.
There’s also coming up a choice set for the reader to decide how their character is feeling about certain things, so I want to make sure there’s enough choices without being overwhelming!
Next week, I will be pushing on with Chapter 6, as it’s a bigger one to write with all the variations! But also I’ll be starting the Winter Scenario Specials and work out how I want those to look and go, because I was supposed to start that this week but was on such a roll with this chapter that I just kept writing, hehe! :D
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! It’s supposed to be pretty stormy in the UK, so the perfect weather to have a cuppa and get some serious writing done—particularly as it suits the setting for it right now…! <3

Hi! Hope everything is well 😊
Just played the demo and it's sooo god! 😍 Replayed it several times already.
I've tried every type of playthrough for each wayhaven book. Like, literally every single one... for each stat, personality, type of relationship with each RO, who your BFF is....etc...
I'm just obsessed with how even small things changes the dialogue, I can't help it, it's like Pokemon, I gotta catch them all 🤣
And I already know i'll replay this one the most 😍 and it has absolutely nothing to do with the hot Villain, or the MC getting awesome super powers. Or the angst. Or the mental image of a MC going full on "Unlimited Power!" On the next Murphy, or Anwir, or Bobby, definitely not Bobby. Nope.
Not. At. All.
....
Anyways...
So I just have to ask (Even though i'm guessing we're going into spoiler territory) how is the Villain as a RO? Right now i'm getting the feeling that they (mostly) wants MC for this "power" they keep mentioning, but is there another reason?
Also just for fun, like in the other RO asks, where does the Villain land in the rankings? For most clingy, emotional, affectionate, etc. Then, of course the most important one, Jealousy. I know we can't really pursue the Villain if we're already romancing someone, but how do they feel about the "competition"? Are they not worried/bothered at all, or should we prepare to go full on supernatural prepper mode and look for underground bunkers for our RO? 😳
If it's the latter i'm guessing my MC is going to check if Sin is willing to side hustle as our RO's bodyguard...
Whether RO agrees to it or not.
(Yes Adam/Ava and Mason/Morgan i'm talking to you!) because I WILL protect you against your will. Deal with it or I swear i'll go full on lovey dovey mode on you, with daily, heart on your sleeve love confessions and love poems.
That I will read out in public.
Everywhere you go, you'll find roses waiting for you. There will be no escape from the sweet and sincere love MC holds for you.
Then I will force you to watch every single sappy romance movie on this planet!
EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
So shut it and get in the bunker with Sin!
NOW. 😡
Oh, interesting questions for Li-Sar, hehe! :D
As I've said multiple times—and will keep saying, lol!—the villain is very much a villain. They're not like Falk or Sin where things get a bit morally one way or other kind of thing.
Li-Sar is a power-hungry villain.
But, saying that, if you choose to do the romance route fully, then they will love the MC. They will fall as deep as the vampires do.
BUT this is still a villain romance. Li-Sar is not a good person, lol!
The way it will play is like the vampires in that it is a love that is a soul-mate kind of thing, your MC feels for Li-Sar and can't help it (though there will be lots and lots of times to be able to pull out before fully committing to the romance, but once you're in it, you're in it—and I will put a warning in game about when it will be locked in).
As a romance option Li-Sar is intense, tempting, and overwhelming, but also surprisingly gentle and…needful.
-
As for when you can't romance Li-Sar (if you're already on a vampire romance route), Li-Sar doesn't do well with competition, and will make that very plainly clear!
-
Thank you so much for the asks and the message! <3
