I have trouble sleeping at night. The emptiness consumes me in pieces, tears me apart. The light through the window crack seeps into the dark room and that's the only thing between me and endless silence. I have seen moments turn into memories. The wishful thinking that everything would get back to how it used to be, lasts about a few seconds and then vanishes into thin air. The outcome of it reflects on my eyes and every second on the clock, it gets more and more difficult to avoid thinking. As I pen this down, I feel succumbed to a never ending loop of loneliness; stuck in a void which keeps getting bigger and the light at the end of the tunnel is about to be diminished soon. I have never felt this before. My thoughts are frozen. I feel suffocated down to my ribs. My heart screams pain and blood. My mind is about to go numb. I want to disappear. I've lost it all. TRUTH

Old Friends

When we were young, we used to play in the forest behind the old church. I remember the wind dancing through the tangle of our hair and the twigs from the bushes tickling our skin. You would turn your face up to the sky and let the lemony sunshine create a constellation of freckles across your cheeks. We’d talk about dreams with the sugar sweet taste that the freedom of childhood brings. I remember it all clearly, the blue patch of sky through the trees, the taste of sugar cookies, the sounds of laughter. The smoothness of the heart shaped rock that you found and pressed into my palm. The softness of the woven bracelet that we tied on each other’s wrists and the way we smiled at the word “forever”. Those days are gone now, memories shut away as if hidden in a shoebox and stuffed in a closet. Ignored almost always, but still kept for sentimentality’s sake. But sometimes when I feel the heady weight of reality, of the present and the future, I venture into the closet, take out the shoebox, and I remember.

This week we need to remember to take nothing at face value. Dig deeper, ask questions, challenge yourself, and remember we only see and show what we want to see and show. Treat people with kindness, stop judging, show grace, and most importantly, check yourself first!
