i take off my skin to ease the pain. chew the layer to disintegrate it's hurt. find the centre in infinite vain. hold each piece and make small cuts. ugliness oozes out of each pore. dark, warm and full of burdens old. scrape scrape scrape. maybe this is enough but wait, there's more. don't let them see. tell no soul. put each part back together with a bandage. what? permanent cure? no. as long as it continues to work.

Of all the wrongs I did,

All the miseries I caused.

Times when I wasn't sorry,

My past mistakes I failed to care about;

These pending apologies,

Will someday cause my demise.

My crimes won't let me live,

They strangle me to death each night,

Yet I survive just to hate myself,

I disappointed everyone who thought I was kind.

Now I'll wait,

For all the wrongs to come back to me in full circle,

For me to face the outcomes,

The Rise of Aesthetic Writing on Instagram and Tumblr

In an age where attention spans are short and screens are infinite, a new form of literary expression has emerged—aesthetic writing. Unlike traditional storytelling, aesthetic writing thrives on vibe, emotion, and visual resonance. And nowhere is this more alive than on platforms like Instagram and Tumblr.

These platforms have become creative sanctuaries for micro-poetry, lyrical prose, existential quotes, and dreamy thoughts. Short sentences—often raw, fragmented, and deeply personal—are paired with soft visuals, handwritten fonts, or vintage filters. The goal isn't always clarity, but feeling.

Why has this become so popular?

Because we crave meaning in the scroll. Amid ads and algorithms, aesthetic writing offers a pause—a moment of reflection or heartbreak or hope.

Whether it’s a melancholic paragraph in typewriter font or a poem captioned beneath a grainy photo of a window at 4 a.m., aesthetic writing feels like a shared secret between strangers.

Instagram turns words into visuals, often in carousel posts, pastel backdrops, or minimal fonts. Tumblr, on the other hand, preserves that raw, unfiltered intimacy that feels like reading someone’s personal journal.

This isn’t just a trend. It’s a movement—an emotional, visual archive of a generation that writes to be seen, felt, and understood.

There's something very interesting to me about the technical methods they developed in the last days before the fall of the typewriter gave way to the rise of the word processor. My fascination with the IBM selectrics and their varied and curious little type elements is no secret at this point but it's worth mentioning that they weren't the only innovation when electric typewriters were en vogue. 

Enter: The Daisy Wheel. These flat diskettes typically contained 96 characters (much like the later Selectric 3 elements) and boasted the ability to print type up to 3 times faster than that of typical IBM electric typewriters. While I cannot personally attest to this claim I can say that I have found them to provide a much quieter typing experience than the selectrics or comparable Smith Corona machines. In fact, once you get over the nagging expectation of thrashing percussion there's almost a calming, white noise effect to it that really makes you wish they'd been produced in smaller portable sizes that don't claim an entire workspace. 

But for those entrepid typists who've got space to spare and an affinity for tactile tactics executed quickly, quietly and qwerty you can start your new addiction with this awesome Daisy wheel diskette specifically for brother typewriters.
