isn't it fucked up that there are thousands of dinosaur species that we'll never be able to find fossils of or even evidence of their existence because none of them died in the right way to have their bones fossilized. that out of likely populations of billions we've only ever found 50 or so t-rexes. what about the dinosaurs that didn't prosper into the billions. species with hundreds of thousands and even millions of members, and not a single one of them is remembered. do you think any of them knew? do you think some of them knew it was their time? how many of them tried to fight for their lives in a battle against such a cosmic twist of fate? do you think they knew it was inevitable? that they could do nothing but lay down and die? or do you think they fought valiantly against the abyss? that they tried desperately to keep on going until the dust cleared. and to think that so many dinosaurs could have fought tooth and nail to survive only for us to not even know the way their bones looked. that a species could have tried so long to keep on living. that a creature could live a life so long, so beautiful, a life full of intrigue, honor, dishonor, love, violence, hatred, hunger, famine, glory, passion. that a creature could have a life so fufilling only to be forgotten by the sands of time. is it wrong to weep for what could have been? for the thousands upon millions of dinosaur species that we cannot even honor with a name because their death was not worthy of one. is it okay to say sorry? sorry to the animals that will be forever lost to time? to the creatures that will never be remembered in any shape or form. to animals that have long since vanished from the face of an earth so loving. because i'm sorry. i'm sorry that we will never be able to gaze upon your faces, to hold our hands on your skull's cheek, to lean in and tell you that you did it. you fought against the odds, you worked so hard, you had families, you had favorite memories, you had friends. you did so good, mr. dinosaur. your corpse is a reminder that you once were. that your lineage once was. that you lived, and that you thrived. it is an honor to be able to see your face. you are loved, mr. dinosaur.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again

Yet another AO3 bot situation - please spread the word!

Hi, it's me again, the person who wrote that viral post about fanfiction plagiarism! Today I'm here to warn you about abuse perpetrated by bots who have stolen AO3 usernames.

There's currently an epidemic of bots going around leaving (apparently random) horrible, hateful comments on people's fics. This isn't the first time bots have invaded AO3, but the big problem with this wave is that they're using real AO3 usernames to do it.

I learned about this when another writer contacted me after receiving the following comment on their story:

Now, while that is my username, I DEFINITELY did not leave this comment (and anyone who would leave something like that on a fic should be slapped! What an awful thing to post). This fic is in a completely unrelated fandom that I have never participated in, nor has that author participated in any of my fandoms, so the probability of it being some intentional fandom drama thing to make me look bad is also low.

The writer whose fic the comment was left on enlisted the aid of some friends and tracked down other guest comments with unrelated usernames attached, which is pretty strong evidence that they are being left by bots at random.

The TL;DR: If you receive a cruel comment from a (Guest) with an actual AO3 username attached, it's most likely from a bot. Please do not lash out at or dogpile the AO3 user who owns that name, and who in all likelihood has no idea that their name has been hijacked for evil.

If finding this kind of comment on a fic, even left by a bot, is likely to upset you, I would recommend changing your comment settings so that only users who are logged in can leave comments. To do this, edit your story settings, and under "Privacy," select the radio button that says "Only registered users can comment," as shown below.

Please spread the word to other AO3 users! And if you see mean guest comments on other fics, maybe let the author know that it's probably from a bot and not a real person who thinks their writing is bad.

I, a hearing person who likes subtitles just as a preference, shouldn't have to read a subtitle that's obvious nonsense, go back a couple seconds, and listen again in order to figure out what's going on. An accessibility feature should not be the most half-assed part of a professionally made production. Scripted media has absolutely no excuse for not having subtitles or having subtitles that aren't perfectly verbatim. Professional captioning services should be ashamed of the shoddy work that they put out. Captions should be treated as a part of the production, just like filming, editing, audio balancing, etc - and anything that releases with missing or bad captions should be seen as unfinished

I hate being a person who loves bugs, I can't say anything without the person I'm talking to reacting with disgust. Today I had to literally beg a coworker for the life of a spider, and then after I put it in a nook outside she thought it'd be funny to show me a video she took of her killing one. Like idk man. Birds scare the shit out of me but I still get why people love them. They come in pretty colors and they sound nice and they're interesting to observe. I don't understand why people don't feel the same about bugs.
