best-friend!sunoo who you first met in the hallway on your way to class, he asked you where the music room was--and since you were on your way there he followed you. best-friend!sunoo who began to sit with you at lunch because you two had the same schedules, sometimes buying you snacks from the vending machine. best-friend!sunoo who always went to the nail salon with you just to sit there and talk the whole time you're getting your nails done, as well as being the one who picks your nail design. best-friend!sunoo who you told all your crushes about and he rated them on a 1-10 scale. best-friend!sunoo who was also your wingman and always tried to get you with your crushes if he thought they were good enough for you. best-friend!sunoo who you had study session with that lasted til late at night and early in the morning, and when you two realized the time you'd quickly get to bed and join in an (platonic) snuggle together, listening to asmr to fall asleep. best-friend!sunoo who you gossiped with on the way to school/class, and when the tea was right behind you sunoo would scream "fuck no!" and run off with you. best-friend!sunoo who took you to the rooftop at lunch after your boyfriend broke up with you because he knew you didn't want to cry in front of people, and always offered you tissues and his hoodie for your comfort. best-friend!sunoo who helped you dye your hair blonde after you got over the breakup, and to not make you feel embarrassed for showing up at school blonde, he'd dye his own to match yours (secretly to surprise you). best-friend!sunoo who sat with you on the coach bus on your way to the field trip destination so you could sit by the window and cuddle his arm comfortably, as well as so you two could eat (big backs) and watch dramas. best-friend!sunoo who (even though he's a boy) kept a few pads in his bag just in case you have an emergency, and when blood leaks through your skirt he always wraps his sweater around your waist to cover it up. best-friend!sunoo who had his wallet on him at ALL times when he was around you, knowing that when an ice cream truck pops up you two are running like biggies. (the only biggie here is ME for that shaved ice i'm running fr) best-friend!sunoo who, for prom, set you up with his homeboy who you liked and scored you a date. after prom, sunoo saw you two in the hall making out and quickly minded his business instead of butting in to get you home.. "yeah.. he'll get her home." he brushed it off, running away (not wanting to deal with ALLAT love.) best-friend!sunoo who you came to, sobbing your tears out after seeing a sad puppy story. in which, he had to comfort you and tell you that it's not real because why the fuck was the dog talking?? (your dumbass believed it) best-friend!sunoo who you went to the mall with, skipping around stores and buying all the matching pajamas. best-friend!sunoo who, one day, invited you over to his house on the day of your birthday and surprised you with a big birthday party after ignoring you and acting annoyed with you the whole day. of course, you were crying in the school bathroom after he ignored you so to make up, he fed you cake and let you open your presents. best-friend!sunoo who you graduated with at the top of your grade, you being the valedictorian and sunoo being salutatorian, and even while you two were going to two seperate colleges, still managed to be the ultimate power duo and meet up every weekend!

I've always admired your eye for fashion. Your posts about it on twitter are some of my favorite of yours. Out of curiosity, did you ever encounter a character who had a sense of style you thought didn't suit them which couldn't be explained by purposeful characterization? And if so, how did you think they would dress?

Thank you very much. Yes, it happens a lot, but to answer I suppose I want to talk about a problem in comics of continuing to write characters who were very much a product of their time fashion-wise: Laura Kinney and Nico Minoru. Despite these characters being incredibly gothic with unique outfits, and saying MANY times that this style of dress “felt like them”— in recent years, Neither of them are goth, ever. Especially Laura. She is only drawn in incredibly bland clothes. The edgiest she will ever get is a leather jacket. She dresses explicitly like a girl version of her father, when her unique taste in fashion was a clear stand-out from the writers to create her own unique, more emo identity than Logan had— he is very recognizable by his flannel and more western biker clothes.

For Nico, it all starts with that demon Kris Anka. In his defense, Nico had been wearing increasingly un-researched gothic fits the more she was divorced from Runaways comics. Her outfits got more stereotypically emo rather than punk, clearly drawn by artists who weren’t too well educated in fashion. Nico was known for being a goth character. It is essential to her moody history and even her powers— they involve her needing to cut herself, clear goth stereotype which is deconstructed.

But Kris Anka’s designs of the Runaways were very “updating to suit modern sensibilities.” Karolyn’s, who was peak 2000s soft bohemian— with wrap around tank tops and NEVER without her frayed jeans, was now a complete prep, wearing things that her more down-to-earth, hippie original never would.

In Nico’s case, she is not a goth anymore. She is alt, yeah, but alt grunge. She wears bright colors, dyes her hair in a distinctly 2016 way, and for some horrible reason— is very attached to flannel. This portrayal of her fashion became repeated by other artists to the point that it’s her look in the new Spider-Man show. You understand how upsetting this is to Me? It’s like if someone ripped off all my finger nails than made me eat them.

Yes, the type of goth they were was most popular in its time. But they were characters constructed around those styles and should keep them. They should not grow out of the styles, but evolve with them. I am also an adult and I dress the way they did. It just hurts to see characters with my fashion sensibility have their drip taken away in such a barbaric manner. And have these sauceless outfits now be their style. Laura is her own person— why would she just be a woman version of her dad? Because she’s figured out her life she went from painstakingly choosing her presentation to being a lazy bum who wears only primary colors? To being the lobotomized man’s view of “badass woman clothes”? Just make genderbend Logan art, I will fucking kill you.

Do you think Jakurai's hair is naturally that light purple on the inner layer or he did that at some point?

I feel like it would make sense if Doppo and Hifuni dyed their highlights but I can't tell with Jakurai. He doesn't seem like a guy who would ever even think to dye his hair

i think it’s natural lol!!! he’s had his two toned hair since childhood and like you said, he doesn’t seem the type to dye it. i checked out rosasa since they also have different toned hair colours and not only does sasara have his as a kid but his father also has two tones on his head (tho you can’t tell from this shot lol)

rosho tho???? i’m having a hard time telling bc of his bowl cut in his youth lol. but rosho is a type who would dye his hair for the aesthetic so if that’s what it comes down to, personality, sensei’s is def natural lol
